Hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. Hour number Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287 Text Machine 772-774-5254 here at KS Bar where the wings are starting to flow. We got new staff training and getting everything ready. Saturday we open at 9 for breakfast. Should be fun. Our pregame show Saturday starts at 8:30am but the doors here don't open till 9. But it starts at 8:30aman. For people who be asking me, yes, the buses will be going to the game from here, which is probably the easiest way to get to the game. It's just, I think, is it a dollar? Is that what the ride is change?
Ryan Lemond
It's always been a dollar.
Matt Jones
It's a dollar there and a dollar back and you can park. I mean the reason it's the best deal is you can park here for free and it's a dollar. Although I will say we do like the businesses here do require you to patron the business so you can't just like drop your car off and leave or you will be taken to Alligator Alcatraz. So just for just so people know. Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
And the same bus that takes you to the stadium will take you to Alligator Alcatraz.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's a tough drive to be honest with you. 859-280-2287 we got some folks on but a couple things before we do. Ryan number one. All right. Summer Valley officially ended last night. Sad about it. It was, it was a good run, I have to tell you. Got almost to my birthday, which I think is much better than I would have thought. It's ended just because they can't hit. Basically it ends on the west coast losing two or three in Arizona and now chance to get swept in here tonight in la. But the bigger thing is the Mets have kind of found their groove and we can't really hit consistently. We're a player short. Pitchers are getting hurt. It was a fun ride though. I enjoyed this team quite a bit and then I'm really excited for next year. I think they, if they can go get one player during the offseason, I think they got a chance to be really good.
Drew Franklin
I gotta admit, you hung in there longer than Shane and I both thought you were going to. We thought maybe by mid May, you'd already tap out. Like, I'm out. Summer Valley's over.
Matt Jones
I can tell you the moment I tapped out was when. That. When Marte bunded last night, that was. That was it. You're down two to one. Third inning, first and second, nobody out. You know. You know, the Dodgers going to score more. You're in there, home. You got. You got. Got Marte, followed by Ellie. Like, you gotta. You gotta go for it. He buns it, pops it up, turns into a double play. And at that moment, I said, the Summer Valley is unfortunately over. But I did, like I said, did really enjoy it. And then they announced yesterday, next season, opening day is the Red Sox. Oh, my.
Drew Franklin
Wow.
Matt Jones
If you think I'm not selling that ticket.
Drew Franklin
Opening day's a big ticket anyway.
Matt Jones
I mean, that's the only thing I don't like, is normally the Red Sox are a good ticket in and of itself, but opening day in the Red Sox, between me and you, I feel like I can get, like, a grand each for that ticket. If I'm. I mean, I could probably. I. I can pay for a good chunk of my season tickets just with that game. So there's no way. I mean, I'll go. I'll sit up in the top, but there's no way I'm. I'm not selling that one.
Ryan Lemond
Is there any way you could talk yourself back into the. With a month left, you're really out.
Matt Jones
No, I mean, I may still watch games. I may still watch the game. Three and a half. I may still watch the game, but they're done. I can just. Like, you could. You know, sometimes you can just tell, like, we're done. It's okay, but we're done. I'm still going to watch them because they're fun. I want to see. They'll bring this Sal Stewart guy up this weekend. He's. He's kind of a future star, so I want to watch him. But. But they're done.
Ryan Lemond
It's sad to see the end of the run. We followed this roller coaster since the spring. It's been up and down every week, and now it's.
Matt Jones
When I looked at the calendar back in June, I kind of thought this was when it was gonna end, this road trip. It just kind of felt like, you know, because they got to go back out to the west coast again in two Weeks. So it's. It's over. But. It was.
Drew Franklin
But I. I enjoyed the ride.
Matt Jones
I did value it.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
And I gave you. I'm giving you my tickets for Sunday.
Drew Franklin
I appreciate you tapping out because I get to watch the Cardinals and Reds now on Sunday. Because you're tapping out.
Matt Jones
I was gonna give them to you anyway.
Drew Franklin
I appreciate that, Daddy.
Shannon Dawson
Oh, come on.
Matt Jones
No, stop.
Ryan Lemond
That made me uncomfortable.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon Dawson
Ryan, what are you doing?
Ryan Lemond
That felt weird.
Matt Jones
You just. You can't do that. Like, you can't. You. You can't do that. Like it's not. It. It's not. It's not. It's not a positive. Like, it's not. It doesn't make. I mean, literally every single listener out there, it ran up their spine when you said that. Negative.
Ryan Lemond
Like, I scooted over to get away. Just naturally, I started moving.
Matt Jones
It's all. First of all, it pleases no one. It doesn't please the listener. Certainly doesn't please me. It's. It's not.
Shannon Dawson
No, please, Ryan.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
I think it pleased one person.
Drew Franklin
Made me happy, made me giggle.
Matt Jones
No, stop. Do you promise you're not gonna do that again?
Drew Franklin
I promise.
Ryan Lemond
I'm gonna roll up a menu and bop him in the nose to let him know.
Matt Jones
No, no, don't encourage him.
Drew Franklin
Stop, Uncle Matt.
Matt Jones
Okay, I don't love that either, but I can do. I can deal with that.
Drew Franklin
All right.
Matt Jones
It's part of the problem, Ryan, is. Nor even normal words come out creepy when you say so. When you say something like that, it just comes out extra creepy.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So.
Drew Franklin
So please don't turn down the creepiness.
Matt Jones
But I don't think you're gonna be able to do that. So just certain things just don't say it. Just don't say Cracker Barrel changed its logo back.
Drew Franklin
They did.
Matt Jones
People don't seem to get my joke. I think is good, which is they're bringing back the barrel and the cracker. But nobody seems to think that's as funny as I do. But nevertheless, it's back. It was only gone for a few days. Here's what I'm going to say. I think, Shannon, now that they're bringing it back.
Shannon Dawson
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You could argue the best publicity they could have ever.
Shannon Dawson
Of course. Yeah. Their stocks going back up.
Matt Jones
Their stocks back up happy again, people. Let me also say people don't understand how stocks work. When you say, well, they lost $150 million. No, they didn't. The value goes up. But they didn't. Like, nobody took that money from them. It's how Much people are paying for their stock. You know, their Stock is down 50% in the last five years. Like it used to be like 110 and now it's 57. So they were already heading a pretty negative direction, but now they've bounced right back up and they had everybody talking about Cracker Barrel again. And now there's going to be people who like, boycotted it, who now are going to go back like Shannon. I think it ended up being a masterful set of publicity. Whether they intended that or not. It ended up working out is the.
Shannon Dawson
Best publicity Cracker Barrel has ever gotten. Now, they didn't say they wouldn't change the inside of it, which really is what got to me more so than the logo. I didn't care about the logo. But don't change the inside of it. They haven't committed to going back to the old ones.
Matt Jones
What they said was, yeah, but what they said was right. They're only doing a different insight on the new ones. The old ones are going to stay the same.
Shannon Dawson
My. Okay, well, I got a different understanding of it than you do because I. I was told that they were going to go through and remodel all of them slowly. Not all at once. It would take a couple of years.
Matt Jones
Okay, well, maybe I'm wrong about that then. Either way, in hindsight, Drew, I think it worked out for him really well. Like, I think it got everybody talking about it. It got people saying what they liked, what they didn't like, maybe what they needed to improve. And so I think it ended up being a net positive for Cracker Barrel in the long run.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, probably an inside job because they're up 9% today alone. So anyone got that dip your little money making opportunity here? I think they did it on purpose. They're cooking their own.
Matt Jones
He was insider trading.
Ryan Lemond
Yep. Sold at the top. Put out all this bad publicity and then bought right back in.
Matt Jones
Yeah. You could probably have made some money if you did that, right?
Drew Franklin
You know, New Coke and old Coke and it worked for them. So I think maybe Cracker Barrel did this. Maybe this was their grand plan all along to get people. When's the last time we ever talked about Cracker Barrel? When's last time the national.
Matt Jones
When one moved to Middlesboro. That was a big. That was big when that happened in the food bracket. Yeah. Now here's the question. Would. Now that it's on your mind, are you more likely to go to a Cracker Barrel now? I actually think I kind of am because I just hadn't thought about it in so long, it had not even occurred to me to think about going. And now, you know, maybe you do. Right.
Ryan Lemond
I went to Cracker Barrel two weeks ago before all this. So I was still in my same place with Cracker Barrel. But I bet there are people that will now get excited that it's staying. Like people will get talked into going now to celebrate that they're keeping the old man in his barrel.
Drew Franklin
It's front of mind. Of course, I think more people are going to go now because it's been in the news.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
How awkward is it for the person that had the idea of the logo? You just leave.
Matt Jones
Tough day.
Ryan Lemond
You just get your things.
Matt Jones
Tough day for the people who said do the different logo.
Shannon Dawson
Yeah. That was your one contribution to the.
Matt Jones
Yeah. And they're like, you know what, that's good. It does go to show, though. Like they couldn't have thought when they did it it was going to end up like this. But it was a good pivot to go back.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
And now get all the. The positive attention. So I think I'm going to say plus one. Cracker Barrel. I think it ended up working out for him.
Ryan Lemond
Just send that one person to the mail room or fire them and act like you never had.
Matt Jones
Just keep acting like it didn't happen. All right, who's next?
Shannon Dawson
Brent.
Matt Jones
Brent. Go ahead, Brennan.
Shannon Dawson
Brent.
Matt Jones
Brent.
Shannon Dawson
Okay, let's go to Rob.
Matt Jones
Rob, Go ahead. Rob. All right. Do you have these. Are these people. Do they exist? Shannon, are you just making up names?
Shannon Dawson
I'm not making them up. Let's try Casey.
Matt Jones
Casey, go ahead. Casey.
Caller
Hey, fellas. Good morning.
Matt Jones
Good morning.
Caller
I had two quick things, so I wanted to say congrats to the newly engaged couple. I'm sure they're listening. I was blown away that she got to announce the engagement herself and it didn't leak. And then. So I read Jason Kelsey met his wife on Tinder. Imagine meeting the love of your life on Tinder and now Taylor Swift is going to be your sister in law. Isn't that wild? And that's all I had. Thanks, guys.
Matt Jones
Yeah. That is crazy. I didn't realize that Jason Kelsey met his wife on Tinder. I appreciate. Appreciate the call. That is kind of. Wow. By the way, where did you all meet?
Ryan Lemond
Your. Your.
Matt Jones
Where. Where did you meet Abby?
Ryan Lemond
Where all people should meet at lovely Tin Roof.
Drew Franklin
We.
Ryan Lemond
Even when it rained on our wedding day, we had to cancel our wedding photo plan. Well, you were there. We ended up. We were like, well, let's just take the bus to Tin Roof and do photos there.
Matt Jones
So I remember that. Yes. We were about to take pictures outside.
Ryan Lemond
Actually, the specific place was the color run in Louisville, but we were there on a tin roof team.
Matt Jones
Okay. What about you? Where did you meet your current lady?
Drew Franklin
Girl and I actually used to work together at Channel 1830 years ago.
Matt Jones
Do you ever meet people you don't work with? Like, I mean, I think all three of the women you've ended up with, didn't you meet them all at work? You're like a walking HR disaster.
Ryan Lemond
I don't want to room with you anymore. On trips, we noticed this.
Matt Jones
Like, do you ever. Do you ever get outside of work?
Drew Franklin
I don't really. I don't do the app thing. I don't do any of the dating services. I'm just, you know, stay in my comfort zone. Channel 18.
Matt Jones
All right. Shannon, what about you? Where did you meet your lady?
Shannon Dawson
In a bar. TK's Pub.
Ryan Lemond
TK's Pub?
Shannon Dawson
You've been to TK's?
Matt Jones
I. I have been to TK's Pub. That's an interesting place to go hunting.
Shannon Dawson
I wasn't hunting. But, you know. You know, sometimes things fall in your lap.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's one way to put it. Yeah. It's okay.
Drew Franklin
How about you? Where'd you find your lady?
Matt Jones
I mean, you're making a mockery of a question. Because there's nothing to. Probably in recent years, it's. It's been like dating app. Yeah, probably because I don't go out. Right? Like, I don't. I don't go out. So where am I gonna. You know, where am I gonna meet somebody?
Drew Franklin
Being an older guy, it's crazy to watch the younger generation. That's how they meet people.
Matt Jones
But I would. But I'm not on. I'm not on Tinder. I don't. That's for kids, I think. I mean, I haven't. We. The only time I was on Tinder was with Drew in the great story of In Dallas when I. When Tinder thought I was a lesbian. Yeah. So that's. Wait, what somebody thought what, Tinder thought I was a lesbian? You know, I've told this story before. We don't have to go over it again. Yeah, that story. It's for somebody. But it is true. That was.
Ryan Lemond
We're both swiping them.
Matt Jones
It's also why my age on Facebook is wrong. We've talked about that before. But. But Tinder was like, oh, this must be a lesbian.
Drew Franklin
29 year old lesbian.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Who's. Who's up next? Shannon, Matt. Matt. Go ahead, Matt.
Caller
Hey, guys.
Ryan Lemond
How y' all doing?
Matt Jones
Doing good.
Caller
Just want to say thank you for KSR and everything like that. I've been doing a little medical stuff going on, so I've been on the couch for a while. But I want to say thank you. I've been listening every day for the last couple months and so I appreciate you all just given great content every day.
Matt Jones
Well, thank you very much and God bless you. Good luck on your, your medical thing.
Caller
I do have one more thing to say.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Caller
You all, you all were talking about Dairy Queen and the Blizzard machine having to work. As the owner of a sports bar, shouldn't your TVs work too?
Matt Jones
Well, they generally do, but I mean, if I only had one television and then it didn't work, that would be a problem. But we have 30 some TVs so yeah, occasionally one goes down, but Dairy Queen has one Blizzard machine. So no, I don't think it's the same as one TV goes down out of 30 as opposed to one Blizzard machine out of one goes down.
Caller
I was just trying to make a joke. I hope you all have a great day.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, if our smoker goes down.
Matt Jones
Appreciate that. Yes, if the smoker goes down, that would be a little bit different. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage.
Drew Franklin

You know, I like this Saw Shannon. Confederate Railroad, right?
Shannon Dawson
I believe it's. Yeah, I think that's them.
Matt Jones
Daddy never was a Cadillac kind, but I think he's actually talking about his actual father here. He's not. He's not talking about his. His boss at work.
Shannon Dawson
There's more like country songs that have Daddy in it than I would think.
Matt Jones
Yeah, like what?
Shannon Dawson
Well, there's Daddy Won't Sell the Farm by Montgomery Gentry.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Shannon Dawson
Daddy's Come Around.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Daddy's comer. That's. I love that song. Daddy's Come around to Mama's way of thinking.
Shannon Dawson
I'll play that one for you.
Matt Jones
There's the Baton Rouge, right? Colin Baton Rouge. Papa was a mama dad.
Ryan Lemond
Johnny's daddy was taking a fishing.
Shannon Dawson
There you go.
Matt Jones
Johnny's daddy was taking him.
Shannon Dawson
Who's your daddy?
Matt Jones
Oh, that's right. Toby Keith, who's your daddy? That's a good call.
Shannon Dawson
A lot of daddy in country.
Matt Jones
Yeah, country. Country likes that word.
Ryan Lemond
So when Johnny's daddy took him fishing, was that his father or his Bo.
Matt Jones
Not sure. Good question. Did you see the story about Babe Ruth in Tennessee? This is. This is a great story and I have a strong feeling about it. There's a man in Tennessee whose name is Babe Ruth.
Drew Franklin
Really?
Matt Jones
Okay. Like, that's. His real name is Babe Ruth. However, he went around claiming to be Babe Ruth, the Yankees player. And he defrauded allegedly 190 people out of money by claiming to be Babe Ruth, the Yankees player. And he's now been indicted for fraud for. And has gone to prison for defrauding people out of money. For being. For saying he's Babe Ruth, the Yankees player. I'm of the opinion that's on the people that got defrauded. Like, if you fall for Babe Ruth, who's been dead for 75 years, then I think you deserve to lose your money. Drew, I think you are so insanely gullible that you need to have your money parted from you.
Ryan Lemond
You don't want people to get ripped off or get caught up in fraud. But if it's so obvious and you fall for it, we need to have like a level of, that's your bad. If you answer the Saudi prince in your DMs and send them your Social Security number, you know what? That's on you.
Matt Jones
They also said that he realized how easy it was. So sometimes he would claim to be other players, including Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner. People think they're still alive, I guess. But what is the scenario where you're giving Honus Wagner money? Like, how would that even happen?
Ryan Lemond
He's selling his autograph.
Drew Franklin
They just played a hundred years ago in the twenties now, at least his.
Matt Jones
Name was Babe Ruth. So if he pulled out identification, you could be like, well, I guess Babe Ruth has aged pretty well.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, you look great for 140.
Matt Jones
But Ty Cobb and haunted Wagner too. But he finally got caught and he can now no longer do that.
Ryan Lemond
Actually, respect is the audacity to try that. And then it worked.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you should go around and say you're John F. Kennedy Jr. All right, I'll try that. That's more recent though. Maybe go, I don't know.
Shannon Dawson
Abe Lincoln.
Matt Jones
Abe Lincoln. Just say you're able.
Ryan Lemond
I got the beard.
Matt Jones
You're from Kentucky. I bet you'll be able to get.
Ryan Lemond
Some new top hat.
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah. Just.
Drew Franklin
Just go with door to door, ask for a donation. Wow.
Matt Jones
Wow is right. Who's next?
Shannon Dawson
Let's get a. Justin.
Matt Jones
Justin. Go ahead, Justin.
Caller
Hey, guys. Hope you're doing well. I heard about the discussion earlier on the Dairy Queen machine. Wanted to give a little tip. I've been using the apps for Dairy Queen and McDonald's. It'll tell you if it's available or unavailable. And I've even been in the. The drive through where I placed the order through the app because it said it was available. And they have told the person in front of me, sorry, our machine's down. And then I proceed to pull around and get my McFlurry or Blizzard, whatever it is. So just a little, A little workaround because I think they just don't like having to.
Matt Jones
They don't like having to deal with it sometimes. Yeah, I can understand that.
Caller
They can pull them off the line a little bit.
Matt Jones
Makes sense. You know, we have that. We have an Al8 slushy machine here that does go down quite a bit. I think actually it doesn't even work like it would work for a day, but there was a time we caught one of Our bartenders just didn't want to do it. They were like, it's down. But then it wasn't. That was a long time ago. But you do have to be careful.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, late at night shift ending. If you've already cleaned it, whether it's a grill, a blizzard machine, whatever. If you're wanting to go home, you might tell somebody that things not working. I've already done that. That chore.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller
You and I almost always available on the.
Matt Jones
Appreciate the call. You and I, Drew, are at least scheduled as of now to do our first NFL show tomorrow. Are you feeling nervous at all?
Ryan Lemond
A little bit. But I will say the. The feedback we got of our practice one and already getting one under our belts, the dress rehearsal helped get me ready. Ready for it. I feel like it took us about 15, 20 minutes in the practice to get to get a feel for it, which now made me much more prepared for the real one.
Matt Jones
The NFL sent us Ryan a. They sent us a revised cover art.
Drew Franklin
Oh, they did?
Matt Jones
Yeah. And I still look awful.
Shannon Dawson
We need to see the updated.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Where's the upgrade?
Matt Jones
I showed it to Drew, right?
Ryan Lemond
No, I haven't seen it.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon Dawson
Can we get a group text?
Matt Jones
Well, all right. I'll send it during the break, but basically, I still look terrible. They still didn't give me a neck. They still. No, wait. I'm not sending it to you all. What are you talking about? First, I'm not sending in the group text. I'll show it to them. Here, I'll show it to you when I see you, Shannon.
Shannon Dawson
Well, I won't see you for a while, so.
Matt Jones
So. So here's the thing. It wasn't very good, so I sent it. So I. I didn't want to be the guy that twice complained about how he looked on the thing. So I wrote him and said, listen, this is fine if you have to do. Still like, it still doesn't look like me. And I think. I didn't say you did this on chat GPT, but it looks like it was done on chat GPT. So I said, but if it's fine if you want to put it out. And he was like, no, we want you to be happy with the first one. We'll put out just another logo and then work on this in the. In the thing. So all they did was basically take my forehead wrinkle out, and then, you know, they took a couple of the crow's feet away from me and Drew.
Ryan Lemond
And I don't know why I had to look 70 in that.
Drew Franklin
We've got these great characters of you guys right behind us every day.
Matt Jones
And these are, these are 15 years old and they're really good. Like I would think the technology has gotten better, but these are 15 years old right here and I think they still look very good, don't you?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. I've even seen some that, that are AI but that people posted on Bond that bridge and I'm like, wow, that looks really professional. And I assume they just ran it through AI Why can't our friends at the, at the league use the same technology?
Matt Jones
But I also am very careful because I don't want to seem like, I mean, we're brand new. I don't want to seem diva or, or demand.
Shannon Dawson
They're going to find out eventually. You might as well, might as well.
Matt Jones
Let them know they could cancel this.
Ryan Lemond
And keep moving on with their lives and not, not miss us.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's true. Who's next?
Shannon Dawson
Quickly, let's get Brent on Brent.
Matt Jones
40 seconds. Go ahead.
Caller
Hey, Matt. Good morning.
Matt Jones
Good morning. Quickly.
Caller
Yeah. So I wanted to talk about the disrespect that Kentucky is getting for this first game against Toledo. Everybody's pitching Toledo to win that game in the upset Kentucky. And I know there's some skepticisms because of the, you know, the debacle that last year was. And to be honest, I don't really believe a whole lot this year either. But if you don't think the coaches and the team haven't heard that and aren't going to come out and play with a chip on your shoulder, I mean, that's crazy for all of you.
Matt Jones
I Hope you're right.
Ryan Lemond
T.J. smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make him pay.
Shannon Dawson
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
I genuinely like this song, Shannon. It's Paul Overstreet, right?
Shannon Dawson
Yep. It's a lot of daddy in here, though.
Matt Jones
It is, but I've always liked it. He's an underrated artist. Actually, I just showed you the new picture. Not a fan. Right.
Ryan Lemond
I see the problem. It looks like you need some definition. Like they just use one color throughout your whole neck, face and forehead and you can't really tell what's what. It's like a blob purple. That one is a little better. But you need some, some features.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's not very good. All right. I said on yesterday Matt Sack, who's a Kentucky fan, site guy. He, he wrote out he was or no. Justin Roland asked who the Kentucky football Mount Rushmore was. Who Are like the four. If you were to create the Kentucky football Mount Rushmore, who would it be? And he, he had suggestions. And so here, here were mine. I feel like three of them. I feel like my first three I don't think you can really dispute. And then I think the fourth one, you can go a lot of different directions depending on what you think matters. So to me like art still is. Like is definite. Art still has to be on there. All all American, great defensive player. Then Tim Couch, I think has to be on there. Best quarterback, number one overall pick, etc. And then Josh Allen for me has to be on there. I think Josh Allen is the best modern player that Kentucky has. Has had. But then I think off. Then I think after that you, you decide, okay, do I want like a George Bland? Do I want Benny Snell who has the rushing title? Do I want Randall Cobb who could do everything for a few years? German Dawson, who was. Has an amazing legendary pro career, good at Kentucky, but not like Mount Rushmore, but maybe the best pro of all time. I think I had one more on my list of potentials. Is there anybody else that you could see? And then do you disagree with any of my major? 3.
Drew Franklin
See, I'm leaning Germany. Even though maybe his UK career, maybe.
Matt Jones
He'S only second team all SEC.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. But what he did post Kentucky, when one of the greatest centers to ever play the game, I think that that earns him the right to be on our Mount Rushmore.
Matt Jones
But usually when we do UK basketball, we don't take in count pro there. Pro career.
Drew Franklin
Yep.
Ryan Lemond
Even change positions in the NFL. Really mostly guard here and then became one of the best centers ever in Pittsburgh.
Matt Jones
So what it was. So who would be yours?
Drew Franklin
My, my first three I thought of immediately I was Couch Art, Steel and Dermani. That fourth one, Josh, you mean. Josh Allen's a great example of somebody that could probably do it. But you go back the day Babe Pierrelli and George Bland and those guys, they won the mythical national championship. We're going to ignore those guys.
Matt Jones
I give. I mean and this is my bias and I'm fine with it. I'll accept it. I give less for things like Mount Rushmore when you played when it was segregated. I mean, I just, I think it's a. It's just a different time in sports. If I'm saying who the. Who the. The best of the best are, that's just, that's just me.
Ryan Lemond
I'm with you that there's three that. I mean it's Mount Rushmore Go ahead and put them in stone. Put them up there. It's Art Still, Josh Allen, Tim Couch, I think that should be on just about everybody's list. Fourth, you can go a lot of directions. I'm actually going to say someone you didn't name. It's more personality. I'm going to say Jared because a lot of people, when you think of Kentucky football, if you're not from around here, you don't follow closely. That is one of the players you think of. So it's more of obviously the personality and the style than what he actually accomplished. But I would put Jared as a fourth.
Matt Jones
You wouldn't put Josh Allen on yours. I mean he's the all time sack leader. If you're talking about pro, if you're talking about pro stuff, I mean he's got. He's probably been Kentucky's best pro in the modern era.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we talked the other day that the three best defensive players have probably been Josh Allen, Dennis Johnson and Art still. So you pick one of those three. Pick two of those three. I don't know.
Matt Jones
It's hard for me to pick an offensive lineman just because like, who knows? I mean, I like it's hard. Like who. What's the name of the guy that was All American? Was it Fain or something or what isn't there? Who's the guy back in the seven. What Bob game? Yeah, I mean, I don't know. Right. Like he was an All American. I can't say he was better or worse than pick the offensive lineman on the big blue wall because I don't really know how to compare that.
Drew Franklin
Is Dermani though, the only Kentucky graduate to be in the NFL hall of Fame?
Matt Jones
He is, and I'm not dismissing that at all. He's great. It's also the case though that like that Steelers team, they put everybody in the hall of Fame off that Steelers team. I think they got like 10 people in the hall of Fame. That was kind of during a time sort of like at UK basketball when we put all those people in the 50s, all CM's friends, as you said in the hall of Fame. We. They've kind of done that with that Steelers team over the years.
Ryan Lemond
That's all still what he did in the pros. I'm trying to do UK Mount Rushmore. I think Josh Allen, if you look at his accolades, he won every possible award you could win. He was unanimous All American, every defensive trophy you can win. SEC Defensive Player of the Year. I think he might be the number one lock of any of them.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I'm amazing how, considering how recent he is, how much pushback I got on social media for Josh Allen. I don't even think Josh Allen is kind of a debate. I mean, if you were to say to me, I bet you if Mark Stoops was sitting here and I said, mark, who's the best player you've had? Wouldn't he say Josh Allen? Probably.
Ryan Lemond
And I don't think he would have to think.
Matt Jones
He almost certainly would say Josh Allen.
Ryan Lemond
Maybe Lynn Bowden because of just the unique. What he did here.
Matt Jones
Maybe. But I think you would say Josh Allen. And I think, you know, we've never had a Heisman winner, but we've had one National Defensive Player of the Year winner, and it's him. So how could you not put him on there? Right. And then Tim Couch was second in.
Ryan Lemond
The high school Osman conversation.
Matt Jones
I mean, those two guys. And then Art still obviously has all those accolades and also was. So for me, those three kind of stick out.
Drew Franklin
And I think there might be some people that may try to argue, maybe Bear Bryant. Maybe I put a coach up there.
Matt Jones
Well, if I include coaches, then he's certainly up there. I don't. I don't include coaches necessarily, but if I did, I think he would definitely be the fourth.
Drew Franklin
So who would you bump off if you include him?
Matt Jones
Well, I don't have a definitive fourth one because I, you know, I can even. I can be talked. I could be talked into Randall Cobb.
Ryan Lemond
I might go Cobb next. I think Benny's hurt by Chris Rodriguez coming right behind him and have an identical stretch.
Matt Jones
And he's also probably hurt by the fact that we had the greatest offensive line in our history during that. That was part of it. Yeah. I mean, what's the case for Benny Snell but not Chris Rodriguez? Is there one? I mean, Chris Rodriguez broke all his.
Drew Franklin
Records and then Ray Davis broke that touchdown record.
Ryan Lemond
So.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I don't know, but I feel very good about my three.
Ryan Lemond
Three should be on everybody's.
Matt Jones
Who's up next?
Shannon Dawson
Jim.
Matt Jones
Jim. Go ahead, Jim.
Caller
Hey, guys, I don't know if you've addressed it yet, but the announced team for our game against Toledo on the SEC Network is Taylor Zarzer and Matt Stink. Matt Stinchcomb was one of my favorite duos.
Matt Jones
Yes. We've had them a bunch over the years. I think they do a really good job, actually.
Ryan Lemond
And Alyssa language.
Caller
Yeah. And as far as Bob Gaines, he was the first Outland Trophy winner in the sec, so he would have to have consideration. And. Yeah, I like your other three picks though. Very well.
Matt Jones
Appreciate it. All right. Then I would throw him in there too. I mean if we're going to put Germani and then I think we probably would have to put Bob Gain because even though I don't know a lot about him in terms of accolades, he has to be towards the, the top. Right?
Drew Franklin
His accolades at Kentucky were actually better than Normani's accolades. Just at Kentucky.
Matt Jones
Just, just. If you're just looking at Kentucky, you're. You're exactly right. Cornbread Hemp one of our major sponsors here at KSR. Cornbread hemp full spectrum flour only hemp CBDs. Ryan Lemond
Oh, blueberry breeze for me.
Shannon Dawson
So watermelon.
Matt Jones
And you like the peach tea.
Drew Franklin
Peach tea is my favorite.
Matt Jones

Matt Jones
This is like your favorite song, ain't it? Or one of your favorite songs?
Ryan Lemond
No, but okay, sure.
Matt Jones
Can we. We can ask when I was younger.
Ryan Lemond
I guess when I listen to my 90s country as a kid.
Matt Jones
For some reason though, I always think of this with you. I think of this and is one.
Ryan Lemond
I used to get naked to. That's probably the one you were thinking of.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that wasn't the wasn't exactly what I thought of when I thought of you on it.
Ryan Lemond
And the people that don't know that story now are wondering what that is. We'll just leave it at that.
Matt Jones
And then there was the one that. Wow, what's its name? You hated it. And then you. Oh, Billy Dean.
Ryan Lemond
Billy the Kid.
Matt Jones
Billy the Kid. That's right. Some other suggestions here for that fourth spot. Sonny Collins.
Drew Franklin
Good one. Good choice.
Matt Jones
Derek Ramsey.
Drew Franklin
Him and Art still were the best of that time period.
Matt Jones
Multiple picks for Max Duffy. I, you know, if you're just talking about who I like, I would pick Max Duffy. You can't pick a punter, though. Like, they don't. They don't do enough things. But if you're just talking about people who won national player of the year at their position, we have two. We have three. Bob Gain, Josh Allen and Max Duffy.
Drew Franklin
Wow. I do like our four of Art Steel from the 70s, Damani from the 80s, Tim Couch from the 90s, and Josh Allen then from the 2000s. I kind of like that we spread it out like that. Those four think our best picks.
Ryan Lemond
It really just shows how packed the tradition is over there that you can't think of four players to put up there. Just so many to choose from.
Matt Jones
Well, it's interesting because it. It's. It's almost not balanced in the sense of, like, you know, it's. It's. You got this top little group and then there's like a bunch of people. You know, we didn't even mention Lynn Bowden. And I mean, you mentioned that Stoops likes him, but I mean, you. There's a case, considering all the things he did, that like, it's. It's a lot. And now we didn't mention Andre Woodson, another guy who was very, very good.
Drew Franklin
Great season. Coach Brooks could probably even get a little conversation in there. We're gonna go. Who is your top? Your Mount Rushmore of guys you like? You said Max is three guys.
Matt Jones
Well, okay, so you're talking about my just favorite four people that played at Kentucky football. Max is. Is. Is certainly probably number one. Jared. Max and Jared are one. Are one. One A.
Drew Franklin
I take those two. And Dante and Dane.
Ryan Lemond
Okay, well, y'.
Matt Jones
All. No, wait. Freddie. All right, so, yeah, so we're. So we're going Max, Jared, Freddie, and then give me one more. I take Max, Jared and Freddie. You talk about going out and having fun.
Drew Franklin
That's a good crew.
Matt Jones
Max, Jared and Freddy would be a go out and have just about the most amount of fun you could have. I mean, that would be pretty good. Then I really Like Benny Snell a lot. I mean, I. When he was here, he had a great personality.
Drew Franklin
Cash has done a lot of stuff with us.
Matt Jones
He has? Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
I thought Tim Couch was God for a few years ago. So I'd go Tim Couch, Max, Freddy.
Matt Jones
Jared, you going Tim Couch one man, you go. Look, when they were air raiding mountain.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I didn't. That was no particular order. I'm just saying that's my four. But when they were aerating and I was a kid, I didn't think there was a better athlete on the planet.
Drew Franklin
So I got to go Freddie, Jared, Max, Dante.
Matt Jones
Okay, I think I'll go Freddie, Jared, Max. That other one's kind of tough. I'm trying to think who.
Drew Franklin
Who I think who've done the show with us.
Matt Jones
I mean, if you just talk, leave aside personality and who was the most fun. I've never had more fun watching a person than watching Lynn Bowden. Because you just didn't know what he was going to do. I mean, at any given moment, something crazy could happen. And I love that you pick Vince. Yeah. If we could pick coaches, he would certainly be. But he's on Louisville. If I my Mount Rushmore, I cut his head off when it goes to Louisville. If he's up there on the mountain, we're bringing him down.
Ryan Lemond
I know how we do that, but we'll figure it out.
Matt Jones
We will. Who's next? Jeff. Jeff. Go ahead, Jeff.
Ryan Lemond
Man, I ain't gonna lie.
Matt Jones
I did laugh out loud. Yeah, well, you were the one.
Ryan Lemond
The reason I was calling.
Caller
I want to talk about the Jake.
Matt Jones
Paul pickleball Shannon hand picking his own.
Caller
Opponent so he knows he can win.
Shannon Dawson
Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
Oh, wait a minute. Did you pick. You made sure to pick somebody. You're going to beat Shannon?
Shannon Dawson
Of course. It's like Kentucky football. You got to play some Eastern Michigan before you play at Georgia, right? I mean, that's what. That's what I'm doing.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay.
Shannon Dawson
Pick somebody that could beat me.
Matt Jones
Interesting. I didn't know you were doing that.
Shannon Dawson
Gamesmanship. All right, Jeff.
Matt Jones
Appreciate the call. All right, so between you two that you're playing today, who's better?
Ryan Lemond
Like, I mean, if we're being serious, Shannon has played, right? Yeah, I don't even know how to play.
Drew Franklin
Oh, you never played before, but you.
Matt Jones
Were a tennis player?
Ryan Lemond
Well, my career record.00. Because I broke my ankle on the day of my first match.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay. Well, then, so I did the whole preseason.
Ryan Lemond
I earned spot number two for Madisonville and then shattered my ankle playing basketball on lunch Break.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, if we're setting odds, I like talking trash and I'm going to leave it on the field. But if we're setting odds, Shannon's a favorite. I mean, I don't even know if. Is it a racket, a paddle? I don't even know what I'm hitting. So. Okay, I'm new to it. But he'll, he'll lose.
Matt Jones
By the way, the spread has changed a lot. On the Toledo Kentucky game it was seven and it's now up to nine and a half and in one book, ten and a half. So a lot of money. One sort of big time gambler said he wondered if Toledo would even score a touchdown. Said that their offense is not that. He doesn't understand where all the love's coming from because they don't have an offense. What do you think about that?
Ryan Lemond
When it, the moment it got to seven and a half, I bet it at nine and a half for plus money and I'm not done with it, but I'm going to bet it at 13 and a half, probably 17ish, all the way up to 20. I'll probably stop at 19 and a half. But I'm going to have like staggered lines for odds because I, I am. As it gets closer, I mean, one of the ones that said don't sleep on this team, I'm thinking they're going to be all right and probably more than all right. I think it could be a whooping.
Drew Franklin
I think it was all the talk we had about the Toledo Heisman Trophy.
Matt Jones
But seriously, are you, I mean, do you think they're going to this sort of late move that they're not going to be able to score? Do you think that's. That there's anything to that?
Drew Franklin
I think that Kentucky's defense will shut them down quite a bit. That's the Kentucky strength of this team is their defense. They'll be able to shut down SEC teams. So yeah, I definitely think they'll shut down a Toledo team.
Ryan Lemond
And we said earlier the difference is the offensive line in these games. If Kentucky's offensive line is what we want it to be and you know, Bush said it's going back to old school. They should push Toledo around. If they don't, I think we have longer term problems than week one.
Matt Jones
It is funny to me how nothing can happen and vibes change so immensely. You know, there's no news. Nothing has occurred. The line was at 13 and a half. It went to 7 and a half based on nothing. And now it's up to 9 and a half and or 10 and a half based on nothing. Like people's vibes can just change that much. And there's no news for either team of substance.
Ryan Lemond
I think it went to seven and a half because it was a very popular. All these podcasts are doing their predictions and if you look at weekly one it really is. If you're just looking at names and logos it would be one you would pick as an upset a Mac favorite playing a Kentucky team that's won four games a year ago. Well, you don't have to know the rosters. That's people are picking that as an upset one and I think that changed the numbers a little bit.
Matt Jones
Who's next?
Shannon Dawson
Let's go to Mike.
Matt Jones
Mike. Go ahead, Mike.
Caller
Hey Matt. Getting back to Dairy Queen, the go to are the ones and there's two that I know of in Kentucky. It's a walk up window. They don't serve all the food. There's one in Murray, they serve chili dogs.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller
But yeah, you just walk up to the window and it's seasonal so it opens in March, closes at the end of October. And you know being from down there, it's all ever it's a big event. It's all everyone talks about on your Facebook feed. But yeah, if you ever get down to one of them Krogers the other or Dairy Queen, the other one's in Covington.
Matt Jones
I would like a walk up one and then the one in Flemingsburg, we've been to that. That's the one that is always very, very good.
Drew Franklin
They had home style breakfast that we were up there. Apparently the one in Paintsville gets. We've got giving them some love over.
Ryan Lemond
The years to the chili sauce there. Right?
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Dairy Queen of all places seems the most to just let their their franchise go. Make whatever you want.
Matt Jones
Let me ask you a question of the folks who can hear me. There's a lot of people in here who can't. Everybody, everybody feel like Kentucky's winning Saturday. Is there anybody that's legitimately really nervous about it? That's good.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
It does seem like the fan base is getting more confidence as we get closer. I hope it is because it feels like it is.
Ryan Lemond
I needed to be be reminded that they beat Ohio 41 to 6 with a team that's worse than this one last year that in week one when Bush Ham didn't have a full offseason, they were scoring it well before that lightning strike against Southern Miss. So they have handled their non conference opponents a little better. Than they did in the early Stoops years.
Matt Jones

Date: August 27, 2025
Host: Matt Jones, with Ryan Lemond, Drew Franklin, Shannon Dawson
Main Theme: The latest in Kentucky (UK) sports news and banter, plus discussion on seasonal transitions, team optimism, classic branding controversies (Cracker Barrel), Kentucky football “Mount Rushmore,” and heartfelt and humorous listener interactions.
This hour of Kentucky Sports Radio captures the quintessential energy of KSR: a lively, sometimes meandering, panel discussion about UK sports, local life, and pop culture, peppered with humor, debates, and memorable calls from listeners. The core of the episode bounces between the upcoming football season, the panel’s shifting sporting fandom ("Summer Valley" baseball's demise), a playful but surprisingly deep discussion about Kentucky football’s “Mount Rushmore,” branding debacles like Cracker Barrel’s logo saga, and a grab-bag of listener calls that push the conversation in earnest, funny, and sometimes absurd directions.
