Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
C
Welcome back our number two Kentucky Sports Radio here live. We are now in downtown Lexington, right on Main street, right in front of the Starbucks in City Center. The new one. They just reopened it back. See, this is what's exciting. Ryan Lemon. You never know what's going to happen when you're in downtown. Darius Miller just drove by.
A
Just drove by.
C
Just drove by. If you drive by and you're listening, give us a honk or wave. Just some sort of acknowledgement that we're down here. Ryan is already hot. You can tell he does not want to be out here in this sun.
A
We also get the slant eye for the people who are walking by have no idea what we're doing and why we're out here.
C
Yes, well, it's all right. Who cares? Like, we can talk to them as they walk by. Right here across from Bourbon on Rye. This is the kind of excitement you need when you're getting ready to have your first college football game.
A
Yeah, that's a famous Lexington monument there, that Scholars clock. It's been here since like the 1930s or something, so people know exactly where we are.
C
What is it? I mean, I've seen it over the years, but what is it?
A
That freestanding clock, it's been there, I guess, for like 80 years or something like that.
C
What makes it famous?
A
It's been there for like 80 years.
C
Okay, but you said it's a scholars clock. What's the scholar?
A
It's just like a landmark like that. There used to be like, I think the Phoenix Hotel used to be right across the street. This was like the hubbub of downtown Lexington.
C
This right here was.
A
Yeah, okay.
D
This building right here, I ducked under a pool table because someone fired a gun inside.
A
Whoa.
C
Was that what used to be trust?
A
Yeah, yeah.
D
Another monument.
C
Okay, that. Okay, so since we're telling stories about this building, the history of it, this is where Drew through the Oklahoma City Thunder Party was in that building. And it was upstairs up there with where I got to watch DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall in action in the wild. James Harden and all those folks.
D
Kevin Durant.
C
Yeah, Kevin Durant. Like right up there in the top floor of that building.
D
Not the same night as the gunshots.
C
No, not the same night.
A
I tell you, a little more history. That building right there, when it was built, was the tallest building, I think, west of the Allegheny Mountains.
C
This one?
A
Yep. When it was first built.
C
Well, now it's not as tall as the biggest building in America. This blue one over here. That's right.
D
I feel like Ryan could do one of those double decker tour buses downt.
C
You can do a Lex. I'm.
A
Oh, I'm on it. Well, I got a retirement job. Either greeter at Walmart or the Toolbox tour bus guy.
C
Yes. And then of course, they're building this new park right over here. What is it? Phoenix Park. They've been building that since 1971. A lot of people don't know that.
A
Like I said, that's where the famous Phoenix Hotel used to be. Thus why it's called Phoenix Park. Phoenix park, not Phoenix. Phoenix.
C
Phoenix. That's right. Let's do a couple of news items. Non Kentucky, we Rick Barnes drew given a lifetime deal.
D
I love that. Because at Indy last year in the elite eight, there was a lot of buzz that he could retire when they lost. And now he went from I'm going to retire in April or March potentially, to I now have a lifetime, lifetime contract. But, you know, I wish him the best with that. It didn't exactly work out here with our lifetime contract. Surprise. Someone tried.
C
How long do we. I mean, what.
A
How long is.
C
Hey, what's going on? Not you, sir, the car.
B
So in other words, you're not signed like a two year contract then?
C
Well, that's what I'm gonna say. How long could it possibly be?
D
I mean, he tried to kill him off pretty big.
C
I'm not saying trying to kill him off. I'm not saying he's gonna Die. I'm saying, how long is that person going? I mean, how long is he gonna be coaching?
A
Well, apparently they finalized the deal. He's on the golf course yesterday, but he quit after the 14th hole because he never plays the Final Four.
C
We should have left him upstairs.
D
I love a good Ryan Day. I actually wrote on our board at 9:50 this morning after we were talking to him before the show. I said, I think this is going to be a good Ryan Day. He just kind of had that vibe.
C
He hasn't. It is odd to give a lifetime contract to someone who's never been to.
A
A Final Four, never been to a Final.
C
But nevertheless he, he gets it. So he'll be at Tennessee. You know, he, he owned Cal for a while, but I thought Pope, you know, we. I feel like I'm not worried about Rick Barnes.
D
We've been very good at going to Knoxville since he's been there. He's gotten some in rupp that we didn't want to lose and the record's pretty even since he's been there.
A
I thought there was some scuttle last year we played it. They was going to maybe retire last year after the season.
D
Yeah, in March.
C
That though I heard from a Tennessee, A person who gives a lot of money to Tennessee that they were already preparing trying to find their next cow and it ends up not. Not being the case.
D
Well, I don't know if I mentioned this, but in Annapolis last year at the Elite Eight, I'm at the press conference. That's what all the buzz was. I was talking about that.
C
So who knows? Kyle Schwarber, four home runs was last night. He becomes. I don't know what the 21st, 21st.
A
Player to ever do it.
C
First player to scooter Gannett did it many years ago for the Reds. But Kyle Schwarber, you know, some talk. He could be a Red at the end of the year from Cincinnati.
A
Yeah.
C
Has talked about it, I think Kyle Schwaber. That's kind of a cool thing. You like when history happens like that.
A
I don't know if you saw. He came up in the ninth inning, chance to hit five home runs in a game and they had a shortstop pitching and the pitch was like 58 miles an hour and he popped it straight up. He had a chance to hit five.
C
In a row with 58 miles an hour.
A
58 mile an hour little, Little League pitch.
C
Has anyone ever done that?
A
I don't think anybody's ever hit five.
C
Yeah, I don't. I don't think so either. I don't think they have, but still very cool last night. And then probably the biggest story, Cowboys, you know, you have a connection there. Micah Parsons traded to the Packers. Shannon, are you excited? I am.
B
I think we're going to the Super Bowl. That's what everybody tells me now that we've got them. So let's go.
C
Remember Darian Canard was traded to Green Bay and everybody said his super bowl streak was going to end. When in rings now he might win. You're a Cowboys guy, though, Drew. Sad.
D
The worst part was telling my wife she really loves the Cowboys and thought Jerry was going to resign him in time for the first game and to go to the Packers. Stayed in the nfc. Now they're going to be the main event. We certainly hated it. I couldn't believe Jerry let him go.
C
Felt like to me, the Bears were going to finally be able to consistently play with and beat the packers. And now they end up getting the best linebacker in the league. Jerry Jones needs to quit. Right.
D
Well, the thing is, if they had a decent gm, they could turn this into a great rebuild once you get past this little PR hit. But they don't have one of those because they did get some first round.
C
Picks that they could get two first round.
D
I wouldn't want Jerry in charge of the rebuild right now.
C
Yeah, well, it's hard. They've now traded Luca and Michael Parsons.
A
That's right.
C
The last six months in that city.
A
City of Dallas had these two young superstars. Saw them both leave with months apart. Crazy.
C
That's exactly right. 859-280-2287. Here in downtown Lexington, it's been nice seeing the people wave. It's weird when the people walk by the street because they kind of look at us like, what are they doing? Why are you all doing. Hey, hello there. Right there. Nice to see you, sir. Who's up next?
B
Tyler.
C
Yeah. Go cats. Tyler. Go ahead, Tyler.
E
Hey, guys. Kind of skull my thunder, I called in to talk about Rick Barnes. And in that situation, I will say one of my favorite parts of the show is when Ryan tells a joke, and before anyone else starts talking, he's the first one to start stopping.
C
Oh, he's always the first one. The good thing about your jokes is you find them funnier than anyone.
A
I was dying laughing inside. Couldn't wait to tell that one.
D
Ryan is Ryan's best.
C
Did you. Did you come up with it last night?
A
Well, I've used the joke before, but I haven't used it in the Rick Barnes conversation. So so it's.
C
It's multifaceted.
A
Yeah.
C
You could bring it up a lot.
A
I can bring anytime. We talk about Tennessee.
C
Anytime. It works. Yeah, I'm with you, Brian. Jokes are the worst, but also the best.
E
My one addendum and additional kind of question with the Rick Barnes is, like, when this happened with Cal, like, it was because UCLA was coming after him. Was anyone, like, legitimately, was anyone coming after Rick Barnes? Like, why did Tennessee do this?
C
That's a good question. I would think no one was coming after Rick Barnes. You know, we. They didn't really add a lot of money. I think they gave him a little bit more money. It's probably just a symbolic gesture, don't you think?
D
Yeah, there's probably something in there to get him to hang around the Food City center for the rest of his life and wave.
C
And I keep forgetting that's named the Food.
D
Yeah, they made fun of Kroger Field, which I would. I'm not going to let. I'm never going to call it anything but Food City.
C
Yeah, I would like to. I would like to make fun of the Food City Center. And then we have Kroger Field. Does that. Appreciate the call. I will say one thing about Micah. We had just taped episode one of the NFL podcast. Literally had just finished it. We went team by team, talked about every single team in the NFL, including the Cowboys and the Packers. And then that news breaks, and so now we have to do at least those parts.
A
Oh, wow.
C
Literally we taped the whole thing and it came out moments out of the building when I.
D
When Billy sent us.
C
That was very, very frustrating, Ryan, I will say.
A
Yeah, all that prep time you guys put into this great show, this opening show, now you got to redo parts of it. I'm sorry, man.
C
That's all right. We will. We'll get over it. Who's next?
B
Trevor.
C
Trevor, how are you? Trevor? Look at this. I heart crowd out here. Trevor, go ahead.
E
I'm doing well, Matt. Hey, unless I'm badly mistaken, I think last season Kentucky football ranked among the bottom of the polls when it came to. Not polls, but when it came to offensive, like plays per game, but this new offense, do you think we're going to get more plays off and with this, you know, run style that we're going to do with the clock continuing to run a whole lot, do you think we're going to have more plays, more opportunities out there?
C
That's a good question. Do you think. You know, when Bush Hamden was at Boise State, the tempo was pretty Fast. He didn't throw a ton. They were still more of a. They were. People thought of him as Will Levis in terms of. Or, you know, as William Cohen, but they ran more. But they did go tempo. Do you think we go tempo at all?
D
Mark Stoops and tempo. I just don't know.
C
He hates tempo.
A
Yeah.
D
I mean, if they get downhill and they're really bruising somebody, I mean, they might try to speed it up a little bit. But I think we're in for the old school. I want my defense to rest as long as they can. That kind of. That kind of ball.
C
So the. The. The thought of potentially lowest plays per game, that could certainly happen again.
D
You think might be in the conversation. One thing I like this year, though, they'll run Calzada a lot more than we've seen with past running quarterbacks because they trust their second string. We've had quarterbacks like Levis who had legs, but in his second year, it's like, all right, we're not running you because if you get hurt, this season's over. This year, I think they're going to use Calzada because if he gets dinged up, gets a stinger, whatever. Cutter, get in here.
C
You know, it's nice seeing all these horns. Makes you, like, feel like people are listening.
A
Yeah. You know, usually we're in a studio by ourselves. Like, we were upstairs. Come down here and you realize, man, there's people actually listening to us.
C
I thought there would be more people, like, walking up and down the street, though, isn't it? Am I wrong? I feel like there. You. Hey, I feel like we. You normally have. There's this more foot traffic through here. What's happening?
D
I don't know, actually.
C
Maybe everybody's left for Labor Day weekend that.
D
Maybe getting lunch right now.
A
Yeah, well, maybe the lunch crowd's probably going to start pouring out here.
C
I was just going to sit here and talk to people, and everyone has disappeared, but hopefully. Well, we still got 45 minutes. Well. 859280, 2287. Couple open lines. Give us a shout. You mentioned Nick Calzada. What do we think, Zach? What do we think is going to happen with him tomorrow?
A
Well, I loved his quote that he had this week where he said, like, I know I have to be Clark camp, and every now and then I need to know when I need to be Superman. So I think, you know, he's got that experience. He's played in the sec. He knows what. When he needs to pull the trigger and when not to pull the trigger. He talked like he really comfortable now. Bush hand him system already. So if he's good, this football team could be really good this year.
D
I think so, too. He needs to do a little bit of game managing with the way they're going to play, you know, short passes, hopefully use the tight ends. As I just said, he's going to run a little bit. I don't know if we're going to have this big world beater year where we're like, wow, Calzada, you know, we're going to remember this forever, but I think he's good enough where if their offensive line's good and isn't just a disaster like a year ago, that that offense is going to surprise people.
C
Let's take our last three quarterbacks. Levis, Leary, Vandegrift. When the Calzada era ends, where's he going to be on that ranking?
A
We doing Levis first year we was really good. Or second year when he was hurt.
C
You can separate him. Let's take our last four quarterbacks. Levis one, Levis two. Leary, Vandegrift. What's. What's. How are you going to do it? Hey. Hey.
D
Levis is a clear one.
A
Yeah. Levis healthy. Levis is number one.
C
Levis one is one.
A
I almost put hurt. Levis number two.
D
I think I do, too.
A
And then I'll put Calzada and then Leary and then Vandergriff.
C
So I think it's clear. Vandergriff's last. Yeah, it's clear. Levis 1 is first. I think Levis 2 is probably second. So the question is, do you think he'll be better or worse than Devon Lear? Isn't that ultimately the question?
A
Yeah, because.
C
Because Devin Leary, while he was not great in hindsight, wasn't as bad as we thought.
D
I mean, he made the Ravens last year. I mean, it's still on their practice squad. I mean, the NFL has a place for him.
C
So you think better than Devon learn?
D
Yeah. For some reason, the only memory I have of Devin Larry right now is all of his passes getting batted down. I'm trying to think of a good Devin Leary memory, and it's not coming to me. I mean, I know the wins and the losses, but I think Calzada will win.
C
Devin Leary memory? Yeah. I mean, it feels like we won some games.
D
I'm just trying to think of a.
C
Specific moment either, but it feels like we should have won. Right?
A
Well, he threw the touchdown pass today, and against Ole Miss, that got nullified when Barry, I was called offside. That was Devin. Larry.
C
That would have been a good one.
A
That'd have been a good one.
D
We need Calzada to be a little better.
C
Have we played Ole Miss like four straight years?
A
Played him down there two years in.
C
A row and then so. But we played them Levis's year. That was the year when they reset the season. You're wrong about that. It wasn't Leary. It was Levis's second year was when they knocked that down.
A
They knocked it down because.
C
Because Dane was a freshman, Right?
A
Yeah, I think that is right.
C
Yeah. How do I know your son's games better than you do? But. But I am right about that. That was. So we. We've played Ole Miss three of the last four years.
D
Yeah. After going like. I think we went 13 years without going to Oxford. So it's a lot.
C
Hey, just in time for Labor Day. There are now more places for you to pick up bottles of Red State barbecue sauce. The Kentucky Proud section of Liquor Barn and Kroger. It is Kentucky sports Radio here live out on the street in front of our radio studio on Main Street. Thanks to everybody driving by. Honkin makes us feel special and loved. That guy just asked, do you have anybody famous coming out here? I was very offended. That wasn't very nice.
A
We do have Brandon, our sales guy.
C
Here, but I mean, like, we're right here. Like, why you got to say that to us? We could be moderately. Yeah.
D
Let us know if you found somebody.
C
And then I said, like, who? And he goes, mark Stoops.
D
No, he's not.
C
You said Mark Stoops was on Bobby Bones this morning. Yeah.
D
I haven't heard anything of it. Just saw it on social media. That's just kind of a surprise.
C
Yes.
D
You go from pretty quiet offseason to Bobby Bones.
C
Do what? No, it's television. 859-280-2287. How's he go look and say, is this radio 772-774-5254. One person writes, Chip, train him. Would you bet on him scoring a touchdown against Toledo? It's + 175. I can't bet on the other team, but I think that's a pretty good bet if you were going to do it.
D
Yeah, I spot on all their, their press conferences and what their reporters are writing and all that. He had a great fall camp and they're excited about him.
C
What should note, UK Nebraska playing volleyball on Sunday on abc, a network television regular season volleyball game. Only the fourth time that's happened in the history of, of women's volleyball. They will be playing and it's UK and Nebraska. A great opportunity for the UK program. Who, as we've talked about, did you really throw the L at me? Who do you think you are? And you're wearing a blue hat, too. I'm going to tell your employer. Nevertheless, UK Nebraska is great chance for Craig Skinner and his group.
A
Huge chance for this great exposure. Sunday afternoon at noon and playing Nebraska, the number one team in the country. And you, you know, Kentucky coming off a national championship a couple years ago, this is a huge opportunity to kind of get some exposure for Craig Skinner's program.
C
And they are one. I mean Nebraska's number one or number one or two this year. We're in the top five also should be a great game. They play somebody else Saturday, Lipscomb, which should be a victory, but then they'll get the opportunity on Sunday.
D
Yeah, I mean, Sundays are about to be the NFL's. But right now there's one left that somebody can have and it's volleyball. Volleyball after all day football on Saturday. So hopefully they have a big win.
C
People, people who don't, who know volleyball, tell me we have a Final Four contender and that none of the teams are quite as powerful as they usually are and that Kentucky's got a shot to, if not be a favorite to win the second one, win a second title to do very well.
A
You know, we don't talk about the volleyball program near as much. We probably should, but they have just been dominant. They won the SEC. What is it, Drew, like nine or 10 years in a row when the SEC, they've just got a powerhouse program over there, we don't mention as much as we should.
C
I want to ask you a question, Drew. Are you one of these people who looks at real estate online all the time?
D
Oh, yeah.
C
Here's the reason I'm asking you. I have female friends in my life, all of whom send me houses when they look at it. And what I find fascinating is every time a new house comes on the market, they all send it within like 20 minutes. Do people get alerts?
A
Yeah.
C
How do they find out about it?
D
You probably get alerts. I'm not that committed, but I have the Zillow apple.
C
Yes.
D
I keep up with things. I'm not getting immediate updates, but yeah, I think part of it is also if you're not shopping, you just look around like see the big houses in Lexington or whatever, kind of snoop around the listings.
C
Right. That's obviously your job. Do you, do you, do you feel that as well?
A
Yeah. You can set up those alerts on Zillow or any of these third party sites.
C
What are the rules about like going. If I want to look like. Let's say that I see a house.
A
Yeah.
C
And it's for sale.
A
Yeah.
C
Okay. You can't just walk up and knock on the door. Right. But can you. Are you allowed to creep around?
A
No, no. It is still private property. You have to set up an appointment with your realtor. You some. A lot of houses have a private code. You can't even get to the get the, the key to unlock the door unless you have a private code.
C
Okay.
A
So there's a process, you know.
C
Do you know how I can get in touch with my realtor?
A
You just kind of, you know, just reach out and touch him sometimes. It's Friday, man. It's Friday and it's payday. God bless. Payday. Oh my gosh. Yes. I was down like a $43 in my checking account last night. Oh really? I had a $43 in my checking account last night.
C
Did not have a dollar 43.
A
I did a dollar 43 cents.
B
Time to cash out that equity.
A
Yes. Ring, ring, ring.
C
Yeah, Speaking of a house that maybe should go on the market, I think I know one out in Master Sensation that might be a little big for the current occupier of it.
A
I think maybe once you just move in with me, we could be roomies.
C
You, you got to stop with the movie. How's it going? I keep getting asked.
A
Well, you know, my football watching buddy is not there at the house anymore, so. Sigh. And I would have been watching Dane last night. So yoga girl came over and watched the entire game with me last night. She didn't leave till like 1 o' clock in the morning and she did go to her own home.
D
Do you need anybody to like swim with you? I'll check on the pool.
C
Yes.
D
Help with the pool.
A
Yes.
C
Loneliness better.
A
No, I Hate it. I mean, I really hate it. It's not fun. I need some companionship. So why don't you come and be my roommate for a while?
C
All right. We need you to work through this. Like, I mean that. We need you to work through it. We can't have.
A
I'm not there yet. I'm definitely not there yet.
D
What if we all moved in with Ryan for 72 hours and did a real.
C
That's.
D
I mean, the barstool beach house is killing it right now. We'll do the Ryan Lemon master station.
C
I'm out on that. One person writes, Matt, do we score a defensive touchdown in the first three home games? I'll say yes if we get. If that includes the Eastern Michigan game.
D
Yeah. I'll say why not? And I'll even say that it's Ty Bryant doing yes.
A
You know, our secondary. Those four guys are all guys. Yeah. That's why usually we're worried about our secondary. This year, that's our strength, I think, is our secondary.
C
One person writes, matt, you guys have been so negative about the football season for months, yet now you question why the fan base is negative. How can you do that? Kentucky last year, the problems were the players. If you all had been positive all off season, that 11% number would have been much higher. It is your all's fault. This fan base feels like it does.
A
Wow, that's.
C
I, I, I feel like I'm having the basketball situation two years ago in reverse. Those are the same comments people said two years ago. @ some point, we are not the arbiters of fan. We reflect. We do not lead in terms of fan sentiment. And I don't know what people want. I mean, again, I just used today as an example. I mean, we want people to call in about football, but every comment I get is either people going, yeah, I don't know about the game tomorrow or about the couch car. Like, that's just how it is now. That may change tomorrow, but that is, you know, the University of Kentucky's fault. It just is.
D
People don't need us to be disappointed in Kentucky football. If you've been following it, you're disappointed.
C
I want Kentucky to be good. I want Kentucky to be exciting. I want Kentucky to be fun. Nothing would be better with us reopening our restaurant, but they're going to have to go out tomorrow and play well for people to do that. If they do that, this fan base will be back on it. But if they don't, you think that 11% numbers negative. Wait till the next week. We'll be right back.
A
T.J. smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make them pay.
B
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
C
Welcome back Techie Sports Radio here in downtown Lexington, waving at all the folks that are driving by and giving us honks. 859-280-2287. Folks are writing in lots of messages on the text machine, not many about football. One person writes, matt, do you think that Ryan is the has the nicest house to also have a $37 in his checking account? That's got to be. I would say yes. Is the answer to that question definitely.
A
I'm. That's true. That's why I needed payday to come today.
C
Well, it came though, right.
A
I still got bills I got to pay, you know, insurance.
C
Insurance. Well that, that, that's exactly.
A
Oh, I didn't you something I forget.
C
Okay.
A
Last night, Thursday's Child gave our own Freddie Maggard a really nice award last night.
C
Yeah. So talk about that for a minute because people ask me a lot how Freddie's doing. Why don't you speak to that. I get asked that quite a bit.
A
Freddie's doing really well. You know, he'll be honest and tell you he's got good weeks, he's got bad weeks, has trouble walking right now. But he's got to visit with him last night. Great to catch up. And Thursday Child gave him like an achievement, lifetime achievement honor last night. You know, he's adopted parenthood. He served his country. He's on the board of Thursday's Child. So it was really kind of nice. I'm really glad I was I didn't know it was coming so I'm glad I was there to kind of witness it.
C
And you got to talk to him.
A
Got to talk to him for a long time. He wanted to tell you guys hello. He's going to miss during the pregame show and he misses. That's kind of one thing he really enjoyed doing with all of us. He's going to miss that.
C
I'm going to miss that with him as well. Speaking of the pregame show, it is tomorrow, 8:30 to 10:30. The restaurant opens at 9 o'. Clock. So we are serving breakfast. Never had our breakfast. It's always very, very good if you want to get there. People ask, well what time should you get there? I would say get there a little bit before so you can ensure that you get a table. But we'll often, you know, people come and go. You'll be able Even if you get there a little later. And then we do have the bus going from the KS Bar lot to the game. You do however have to patronize one of the businesses if you use the lot. They do in that. But it's only a dollar, Drew, to take a bus from the lot to the game. And honestly, with traffic, that's not a bad way to go.
D
Heck yeah. Sometimes that bus can be a little fun, little pregame. I've gotten some cats chance going on that before. Obviously you're just full of other Kentucky fans heading that way. So that can be its own little excitement on the way over.
C
Big games tomorrow night. First of all, you meant we mentioned Ohio State. Texas. You like Ohio State. Drew, who you got?
D
Well, now I'm watching the, the big two lane game. To be honest, with my minus four, I just loaded up on that during the break.
C
So what about Ohio State? Texas.
D
Oh, and Ohio State. What'd you go with, Ryan? You said Texas.
A
Ohio State at home.
D
I was actually going to take Texas in the upset there. I don't want to go against our parlay, so I'll go with Ohio State.
C
I'm. I. It's going to be interesting. I mean, I can't remember a more hyped opening week game ever. I mean in terms of, of people being excited about it. You get Arch Manning on the road. Lee Corso's last game. The game starts at noon, so it starts right after all these games. Go. I'm going to take Ohio State for the reason you did. I just feel like they're not going to lose that game at home. They do have a brand new quarterback who I don't think has started one game for them and that's his first one. Shannon, who you got?
B
Give me Texas. I was going to pick Texas until Ryan picked Ohio State, so.
C
Well, you can take them. That's okay. Alabama goes on the road to Florida State playing a road game.
A
True.
C
Road game in Tallahassee. Alabama still a nine point favorite. Who you got?
A
Yeah, I'm still taking Alabama right there. I mean Florida State's kind of been kind of a mess the last year or so. So I'm going Alabama.
D
Florida State will be improved. But Alabama's winning this one.
C
Shannon?
B
Yeah, I believed in Florida State too much last year. Lost a lot of money on draftkings.
C
They just. You did that all the time. You were big on Florida State.
B
Was. And I screwed up. So I'm going to Alabama just out of spite.
C
If for no other reason, I'm going to take Alabama. But remember, they've in the last couple of years had a game like this early in the year. They almost lost to South Florida a couple years ago. You remember who won last night, so. But I will take Alabama. LSU and Clemson play at night. That's a big game. It's. If it wasn't for Ohio State, Texas. That's the biggest game. Lsu. That's the mayor. Did you just see that?
A
Linda Gordon.
C
That was Linda Gordon right there.
A
Come on back.
C
She literally just drove by. Just. She's. She just drives a minivan. I go Cats. I think that was her.
B
She didn't honk. She's not even listening to us.
C
Yeah, Linda. She was just on the show and not even honking. All right, lsu. Lsu.
A
You know, two teams that are probably have playoff aspirations, but a loss kind of puts one of them behind the eight ball right to start the season. So it's a huge game for LSU if they can get this one on the road. But I'm going Clemson.
B
Oh, you're picking.
C
You're picking against our parlay and clips. Never believe in Dabo, but go ahead.
D
I really don't like LSU in this Kelly era. Even that documentary. Maybe hate them more, but I agree. I'm here at Clemson, but it's. I don't like either of these. And I think LSU is the better team.
C
Shannon, I assume you have lsu.
B
Yeah, yeah. Give me lsu.
C
Sunday night. Sunday night football. Notre Dame and Miami. Catholics versus convicts. They're reuniting. Drew.
D
I gotta go with the Irish here.
A
Yeah, Notre Dame, man. After they lost a Northern Illinois last year, they were awesome. So I'm going to think they carry that into this year.
C
I'm taking Miami. They're at home. I think Notre Dame's gonna be cold and not. Not used to the heat there. That didn't make sense. But I'm taking Miami at home to find Carson Beck, earns his nil money and gets this win in the first game. Who you got?
B
Give me with the upset. I like him over Notre Dame. They need to find a conference to play in.
C
And then on Monday, North Carolina. Bill Belichick opens his post Jordan Hudson career against TCU at home. Who you got?
A
I'm gonna go North Carolina. I think they probably have a great year just because of all the circus that's been going on over there.
D
The North Carolina experiment is gonna be a disaster.
C
And it's a disaster.
D
Oh, she's gonna be a distraction. It's gonna just implode. And it all starts on Sunday.
C
Shannon.
B
Yeah. I kind of hope TC wins just for all the fans to go off on Bill Belichick and Jordan.
C
See, I want it to work. Why are you all hating on love?
A
I want it to work.
C
I want it to work. I mean, why you gotta hate on love? I mean this is a. He finds love in his life. Wouldn't you want him to have success? And don't we need more Jordan Hudson with her gold digger clothing and accessories?
D
I think you're reading my prediction wrong. I want them to stay together. I want the football team to suck. I want their love to be so big that he can't coach football anymore.
C
The football can't stand the love.
D
I want us to learn that he had a weak spot. And this great coach is actually going to be terrible.
C
I'm pulling for North Carolina. Those two kids going up against society. Those two kids, that's what we need in this world. Two. Two kids in love taking on the world. Go North Carolina though to my prediction.
D
That they have a baby do by the end of the.
A
Oh my goodness.
C
Oh, you think there's going to be a little add a prop bet to.
D
My under prediction on their wins.
C
So you're on infants under on wins.
D
That's my official North Carolina prediction over.
C
On infants under on wins.
D
Yes.
C
Wow. Strong prediction there. Didn't. Didn't see that one coming. Finally, Auburn and Baylor, they play tonight.
A
Yeah.
C
Can Auburn the Hugh freeze get that? You talk about a seat that will be hot. If you freeze loses tonight against Baylor, which they could. It will be very hot. Who you got?
A
I'm taking Baylor. I have no confidence in Auburn whatsoever.
C
This year I'm gonna pick the sec. I got me too.
D
It's a close spread though. It's like one and a half, two points. It's a tight one, so. But I'm going to Auburn.
B
Shannon, when in doubt, go with the sec. I'm taking Auburn as well.
C
I am too. But just you. If we want people to not say that we're the most pessimistic, have all have Auburn win.
A
Yeah.
C
Because if Auburn. If Auburn loses this game, their fan base will lose their collective mind. And it may happen tonight. I like when that guy just looks stared at me, stared into my soul the whole way he was walking. Gave me a little head nod. He just looked right into my eyes. Who's next?
B
Old Trev.
C
Old Trev. How are you?
E
Hey, I'm doing good. First time. Long time.
C
Who are.
E
Hey man. So I know that you. You're rooting for the cats and you want to see him win six games. But you are the only one to pick five games.
C
Correct?
E
Thinking there probably should be, there should be some accountability if we do win six games. And I would like to see you host a one hour segment with Bob from Jamestown if you are wrong.
C
Oh, no, I wouldn't do that. I wouldn't do that to the listeners. It's not even so much me as it would be the listeners. I couldn't do that, but I'll take accountability. I want us to win six. If you wanna, if somebody comes up with something, if they win six, I'm glad to, I'm glad to do it because I, I want them to win terribly. And I think five is still optimistic because it's still the over in terms of, in terms of wins. But I'll, I'll take whatever punishment you want. I appreciate the call.
D
If they win six, we'll make you do something. When we're partying at the Duke's Mayo Bowl.
C
Oh, I would like listen, the Duke's Mayo bowl would be a huge success for us.
A
Oh my goodness.
C
We were able to go something like that. I think it would, I think it would completely change the fortunes of the program. You win six, I think that number from 11% optimistic gets closer to 40 or 50. You get an off season of recruiting where I think they'll be able to. I think they're going to have money to do it and I think it would work out.
A
I'm telling you, if this team can get to six, get to a bowl game, it'll be one of Stoop's best coaching jobs. I mean, I know it's just six wins, but if he's able to pull it off with what he's got with 55 new faces, it'll go down as one of his best jobs.
C
Wow. This Kentucky Skin Cancer center talking some trash in their new ad. You want to read it?
A
Oh, my goodness.
C
I recently heard about a company that has grown G R O A N. Oh my.
A
Wow. I wonder who he's talking about.
C
About the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center. Spicy. You know, you open a new. Open a new place in Glasgow and you start to get a little spicy, don't you, Mario? That's right. You can go get your mulch checked and be spicy at the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center. They've got them in Kentucky, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Franklin, Powderley, and now a new one in Glasgow. One in five Americans will deal with skin cancers. And in Kentucky, the number is even higher. So trust Dr. Skaggs and his folks. Make sure. You go and get checked out. Patients say he's compassionate, get you in quickly and takes time to explain things. Do not wait to get them checked out. It can be the difference in being healthy and not. Kentuckyskincancercenter.com to book your appointment. You're not just a patient. Your family at the Kentucky skin cancer Center. We've been, we've been a little, you know, I don't want to say negative on this show. Just not overly optimistic. If you are optimistic about tomorrow, if you can get us pumped up, if you can make it exciting, if you can make me think we're going to beat Toledo. 859-280-2287. Give us a shout. We'll take a break. Come back. Final segment. This is Kentucky sports radio. That's right. As we were standing here, guess who just walked by.
B
Shannon leading with elid.
C
That's right. Let's just, let's hear a little chorus. Yeah. Lead in with eland means more jobs for us. Lead in. There it is. Here comes though.
D
You ready?
C
Okay, here we go. Lead in ranfied. Vin Musco won't join me. Anyway, he just walked by. Adam Eland, former governor, gubernatorial candidate, auditor, just walked by.
A
Best campaign jingle ever.
C
Didn't win him election, but he won our hearts. And even more exciting, Shannon, the couch car just drove by. Now, the route. The rude drivers of Lexington would not let him get over. So he is circling the block.
B
Jump on that thing.
C
But a couple things about the couch car, very aggressive in traffic was he.
A
Merged right into traffic.
C
He had no problem merging in. He stuck his nose in like it was the Bristol motor speedway and he was Earnhardt and that was Terry le Monte. He got his nose in.
D
There's three lanes here. He's in the far one and he almost made it all the way across.
C
He was trying. How about the UK flag? That was exciting. So he's circling the box. Shannon, we may just run and get in the car with him. I don't know if he'll let us get on the couch, but we will see.
B
That'd be the perfect way to end the show. Just right off into the sunset. On the couch.
C
Right off into the sunset. We'll see what happens.
A
I've not seen it since he put the big Kentucky flag on the back.
C
He's got two of them. There's two of them. So hopefully he gets back around here so that we can get on before this ends. Who's up next?
B
Noah.
C
Noah, go ahead. Make me excited. Wait a minute. That was weird.
E
Hey, man, I just, I personally want to really thank you for you guys from the interaction from yesterday. Even though I came in on Wednesday.
D
Thinking I was only to pay three.
E
Bucks, but $30, that was absolutely worth it for how you guys, like, seriously, I, I just, I, I really want to appreciate just overall on the fact how you guys being like, I think what you said, the number one rated like local sports radio in the entire nation and you guys do everything you can to be able to reach out, to be interactive with the fans and be around people and you just don't get like high big businesses of like that where people like that. So I really appreciate what you guys do with that a lot.
B
Hey, no, I think we may have lost connection with the guys out there, but I thought I heard him coming back on. Really appreciate you coming by the bar, man. Glad you like the Wings. Sorry we didn't give you as good as deal as what you were expecting but I still think though dollar Wings, dollar per wing is a good deal but we appreciate you stopping by there.
E
Oh, it is. Yeah. Just you guys interactions in every way is really awesome. Like I just, it was every bit worth it for the money that I did pay.
D
All right.
B
No, appreciate it. Thanks for the call. 859-280-2287. I don't know if they're going to come back to the studio or what the plan is. It's just me right now until we get reconnected with the guys out on the street. Let's go back to the phones and talk to Jordan. Hey, Jordan, what's up?
E
Hey. Yeah, just call him. With some optimism for football. I think we, we tried the high ceiling guys that didn't make it, but now we've got proven college guys and I mean I know Toledo is good in the Mac, but all Mac right tackle is our right tackle. All Mac linebacker is our linebacker. So it comes down to Jimmy, Jim Joe's and we're just going to line up and run it down their throats. So looking forward to it and then.
B
Yeah, I'm with you on that. Like I said earlier, I don't know why there's so much hype about Toledo in the off season. I feel like that's all I've heard about. Like, like we can't measure up against Toledo and you know, if we play the game tomorrow and they lose, forget that I said all of this because we got bigger problems on our hands if we can't beat Toledo. But again, you're talking about a completely different team that you had last year. You're Talking about over 50 new players that Kentucky brought in. So to compare last year's team to this year's team, I don't know where all the pessimism comes in. You know, there's a lot of unknown when you bring in that many players, but I would argue even you're bringing in an entire new team. There's just as much reason to be optimistic as there is pessimistic about the team. Does that make sense?
E
Yeah, yeah, for sure. I mean, I think it kind of reminds me of the early stoops teams like 17, Steven Johnson, not the, not the greatest guy, but he's not going to lose you games and Benny Snell is going to run it down your throat and I think we're going to do that. And I think Kiffin's going to hang about 70 on an FCS school this week and then Stoops is going to line up and run it down to third next week and we'll win again.
B
So, yeah, I mean, I think the argument for getting to six wins, which is now what Ryan and Drew has picked, they finally come on board with me, by the way. I've been ringing the 6 and 6 bell since the off season, since last December, so. But the way that I think they get there is you. You win the games you're supposed to and then there's a couple of games that I think are swing games that you can still get. South Carolina on the road is going to be tough this year, but that's a team that you used to dominate. If you're Kentucky, they won seven out of eight at one point during stretch with Mark Stoops. I think they can do it again. You take care of Vandy, which again, Vandy's tougher than they have been in years past, but that's a game that's very winnable. And then you go on the road and maybe knock off your biggest rival. You knock off Louisville at the end and I think that's how you can get to six.
E
Yeah, I think there's definitely a path to six and six. I mean, Georgia and Texas look, you know, not beatable. But other than that, I think you look at each game in a vacuum. We could, we could win any of them. So I'm not, not conceding South Carolina. I'm definitely not conceding Tennessee or Florida at home. Those are all winnable, I think. So I'm looking forward to it.
B
All right, Jordan, thank you for the call. We got Matt on the phone now. Hey, Matt.
E
All right, so I'm down here. Drew has jumped onto the couch car. Is Ryan back in studio yet?
B
I'm not sure if he is or not. Let's see. Ryan, are you there?
A
Yes, I'm here.
C
I'm here.
B
Yeah.
E
All right, so I'm here. Let's do quickly, let's do our picks here. We've got Cats and Toledo. Kentucky is at this moment a 10 point favorite. Ryan, give me the score.
A
I think it's gonna be a low scoring score and I think it's gonna be that way all season. So I'm gonna say Kentucky 24 to 10. 24:10 is my final score. I'm going with tomorrow.
B
Shannon, give me the cats. 31:17.
E
Yeah. So I feel like Kentucky has basically had an off season where very few things have gone right. They've made the decision to not promote this game heavily. But I still think tomorrow they come out and surprise people, play better than our fans expect and end up winning a game. That's probably close for a little bit in the first half. But then in the second half, the Cats find their speed and they go 31 13. Kentucky wins against Toledo. We are going to have tomorrow. Our pregame show starts at 8:30 live from KS Bar. We will have the restaurant will open at 9. We will lead you up into the game. I'll be with you after the game. Is Kentucky sports. Kentucky and Toledo tomorrow. Shannon, looking forward to it.
B
All right, let me do Cornbread Hemp since you probably don't have the copy in front of you right now. Labor Day is on the horizon. E
I never thought that this show would end with the four of us in four completely different places where Drew Franklin is right now on on the couch car ride studio. I'm out on the street and you're in Louisville. But tomorrow we will all be at the restaurant to celebrate Kentucky and Toledo. Football is finally here. This has been Kentucky sports Radio.
