Yeah, that's a famous Lexington monument there, that Scholars clock. It's been here since like the 1930s or something, so people know exactly where we are.

That freestanding clock, it's been there, I guess, for like 80 years or something like that.

It's just like a landmark like that. There used to be like, I think the Phoenix Hotel used to be right across the street. This was like the hubbub of downtown Lexington.

Phoenix. That's right. Let's do a couple of news items. Non Kentucky, we Rick Barnes drew given a lifetime deal.

I love that. Because at Indy last year in the elite eight, there was a lot of buzz that he could retire when they lost. And now he went from I'm going to retire in April or March potentially, to I now have a lifetime, lifetime contract. But, you know, I wish him the best with that. It didn't exactly work out here with our lifetime contract. Surprise. Someone tried.

How long do we. I mean, what.

So in other words, you're not signed like a two year contract then?

Well, that's what I'm gonna say. How long could it possibly be?

I mean, he tried to kill him off pretty big.

I'm not saying trying to kill him off. I'm not saying he's gonna Die. I'm saying, how long is that person going? I mean, how long is he gonna be coaching?

Well, apparently they finalized the deal. He's on the golf course yesterday, but he quit after the 14th hole because he never plays the Final Four.

I love a good Ryan Day. I actually wrote on our board at 9:50 this morning after we were talking to him before the show. I said, I think this is going to be a good Ryan Day. He just kind of had that vibe.

He hasn't. It is odd to give a lifetime contract to someone who's never been to.

A Final Four, never been to a Final.

But nevertheless he, he gets it. So he'll be at Tennessee. You know, he, he owned Cal for a while, but I thought Pope, you know, we. I feel like I'm not worried about Rick Barnes.

We've been very good at going to Knoxville since he's been there. He's gotten some in rupp that we didn't want to lose and the record's pretty even since he's been there.

I thought there was some scuttle last year we played it. They was going to maybe retire last year after the season.

Yeah, in March.

That though I heard from a Tennessee, A person who gives a lot of money to Tennessee that they were already preparing trying to find their next cow and it ends up not. Not being the case.

Well, I don't know if I mentioned this, but in Annapolis last year at the Elite Eight, I'm at the press conference. That's what all the buzz was. I was talking about that.

So who knows? Kyle Schwarber, four home runs was last night. He becomes. I don't know what the 21st, 21st.

Player to ever do it.

First player to scooter Gannett did it many years ago for the Reds. But Kyle Schwarber, you know, some talk. He could be a Red at the end of the year from Cincinnati.

Has talked about it, I think Kyle Schwaber. That's kind of a cool thing. You like when history happens like that.

I don't know if you saw. He came up in the ninth inning, chance to hit five home runs in a game and they had a shortstop pitching and the pitch was like 58 miles an hour and he popped it straight up. He had a chance to hit five.

58 mile an hour little, Little League pitch.

Has anyone ever done that?

[A]

I don't think anybody's ever hit five.

Yeah, I don't. I don't think so either. I don't think they have, but still very cool last night. And then probably the biggest story, Cowboys, you know, you have a connection there. Micah Parsons traded to the Packers. Shannon, are you excited? I am.

I think we're going to the Super Bowl. That's what everybody tells me now that we've got them. So let's go.

Remember Darian Canard was traded to Green Bay and everybody said his super bowl streak was going to end. When in rings now he might win. You're a Cowboys guy, though, Drew. Sad.

The worst part was telling my wife she really loves the Cowboys and thought Jerry was going to resign him in time for the first game and to go to the Packers. Stayed in the nfc. Now they're going to be the main event. We certainly hated it. I couldn't believe Jerry let him go.

Felt like to me, the Bears were going to finally be able to consistently play with and beat the packers. And now they end up getting the best linebacker in the league. Jerry Jones needs to quit. Right.

Well, the thing is, if they had a decent gm, they could turn this into a great rebuild once you get past this little PR hit. But they don't have one of those because they did get some first round.

Picks that they could get two first round.

I wouldn't want Jerry in charge of the rebuild right now.

Yeah, well, it's hard. They've now traded Luca and Michael Parsons.

Oh, he's always the first one. The good thing about your jokes is you find them funnier than anyone.

I was dying laughing inside. Couldn't wait to tell that one.

Well, I've used the joke before, but I haven't used it in the Rick Barnes conversation. So so it's.

My one addendum and additional kind of question with the Rick Barnes is, like, when this happened with Cal, like, it was because UCLA was coming after him. Was anyone, like, legitimately, was anyone coming after Rick Barnes? Like, why did Tennessee do this?

That's a good question. I would think no one was coming after Rick Barnes. You know, we. They didn't really add a lot of money. I think they gave him a little bit more money. It's probably just a symbolic gesture, don't you think?

Yeah, there's probably something in there to get him to hang around the Food City center for the rest of his life and wave.

[C]

And I keep forgetting that's named the Food.

Yeah, they made fun of Kroger Field, which I would. I'm not going to let. I'm never going to call it anything but Food City.

Yeah, I would like to. I would like to make fun of the Food City Center. And then we have Kroger Field. Does that. Appreciate the call. I will say one thing about Micah. We had just taped episode one of the NFL podcast. Literally had just finished it. We went team by team, talked about every single team in the NFL, including the Cowboys and the Packers. And then that news breaks, and so now we have to do at least those parts.

Literally we taped the whole thing and it came out moments out of the building when I.

That was very, very frustrating, Ryan, I will say.

I'm doing well, Matt. Hey, unless I'm badly mistaken, I think last season Kentucky football ranked among the bottom of the polls when it came to. Not polls, but when it came to offensive, like plays per game, but this new offense, do you think we're going to get more plays off and with this, you know, run style that we're going to do with the clock continuing to run a whole lot, do you think we're going to have more plays, more opportunities out there?

[C]

That's a good question. Do you think. You know, when Bush Hamden was at Boise State, the tempo was pretty Fast. He didn't throw a ton. They were still more of a. They were. People thought of him as Will Levis in terms of. Or, you know, as William Cohen, but they ran more. But they did go tempo. Do you think we go tempo at all?

[D]

Mark Stoops and tempo. I just don't know.

[C]

He hates tempo.

[A]

Yeah.

[D]

I mean, if they get downhill and they're really bruising somebody, I mean, they might try to speed it up a little bit. But I think we're in for the old school. I want my defense to rest as long as they can. That kind of. That kind of ball.

So the. The. The thought of potentially lowest plays per game, that could certainly happen again.

[D]

You think might be in the conversation. One thing I like this year, though, they'll run Calzada a lot more than we've seen with past running quarterbacks because they trust their second string. We've had quarterbacks like Levis who had legs, but in his second year, it's like, all right, we're not running you because if you get hurt, this season's over. This year, I think they're going to use Calzada because if he gets dinged up, gets a stinger, whatever. Cutter, get in here.

You know, it's nice seeing all these horns. Makes you, like, feel like people are listening.

[A]

Yeah. You know, usually we're in a studio by ourselves. Like, we were upstairs. Come down here and you realize, man, there's people actually listening to us.

I thought there would be more people, like, walking up and down the street, though, isn't it? Am I wrong? I feel like there. You. Hey, I feel like we. You normally have. There's this more foot traffic through here. What's happening?

I don't know, actually.

Maybe everybody's left for Labor Day weekend that.

Yeah, well, maybe the lunch crowd's probably going to start pouring out here.

I was just going to sit here and talk to people, and everyone has disappeared, but hopefully. Well, we still got 45 minutes. Well. 859280, 2287. Couple open lines. Give us a shout. You mentioned Nick Calzada. What do we think, Zach? What do we think is going to happen with him tomorrow?

[A]

Well, I loved his quote that he had this week where he said, like, I know I have to be Clark camp, and every now and then I need to know when I need to be Superman. So I think, you know, he's got that experience. He's played in the sec. He knows what. When he needs to pull the trigger and when not to pull the trigger. He talked like he really comfortable now. Bush hand him system already. So if he's good, this football team could be really good this year.

[D]

I think so, too. He needs to do a little bit of game managing with the way they're going to play, you know, short passes, hopefully use the tight ends. As I just said, he's going to run a little bit. I don't know if we're going to have this big world beater year where we're like, wow, Calzada, you know, we're going to remember this forever, but I think he's good enough where if their offensive line's good and isn't just a disaster like a year ago, that that offense is going to surprise people.

Let's take our last three quarterbacks. Levis, Leary, Vandegrift. When the Calzada era ends, where's he going to be on that ranking?

[A]

We doing Levis first year we was really good. Or second year when he was hurt.

[C]

You can separate him. Let's take our last four quarterbacks. Levis one, Levis two. Leary, Vandegrift. What's. What's. How are you going to do it? Hey. Hey.

Levis is a clear one.

[A]

Yeah. Levis healthy. Levis is number one.

I almost put hurt. Levis number two.

I think I do, too.

And then I'll put Calzada and then Leary and then Vandergriff.

So I think it's clear. Vandergriff's last. Yeah, it's clear. Levis 1 is first. I think Levis 2 is probably second. So the question is, do you think he'll be better or worse than Devon Lear? Isn't that ultimately the question?

Yeah, because.

Because Devin Leary, while he was not great in hindsight, wasn't as bad as we thought.

I mean, he made the Ravens last year. I mean, it's still on their practice squad. I mean, the NFL has a place for him.

So you think better than Devon learn?

[D]

Yeah. For some reason, the only memory I have of Devin Larry right now is all of his passes getting batted down. I'm trying to think of a good Devin Leary memory, and it's not coming to me. I mean, I know the wins and the losses, but I think Calzada will win.

Devin Leary memory? Yeah. I mean, it feels like we won some games.

Well, he threw the touchdown pass today, and against Ole Miss, that got nullified when Barry, I was called offside. That was Devin. Larry.

He's on the board of Thursday's Child. So it was really kind of nice. I'm really glad I was I didn't know it was coming so I'm glad I was there to kind of witness it.

And honestly, with traffic, that's not a bad way to go.

All Mac linebacker is our linebacker. So it comes down to Jimmy, Jim Joe's and we're just going to line up and run it down their throats. So looking forward to it and then.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. Like I said earlier, I don't know why there's so much hype about Toledo in the off season. I feel like that's all I've heard about. Like, like we can't measure up against Toledo and you know, if we play the game tomorrow and they lose, forget that I said all of this because we got bigger problems on our hands if we can't beat Toledo. But again, you're talking about a completely different team that you had last year. You're Talking about over 50 new players that Kentucky brought in. So to compare last year's team to this year's team, I don't know where all the pessimism comes in. You know, there's a lot of unknown when you bring in that many players, but I would argue even you're bringing in an entire new team. There's just as much reason to be optimistic as there is pessimistic about the team. Does that make sense?

Yeah, yeah, for sure. I mean, I think it kind of reminds me of the early stoops teams like 17, Steven Johnson, not the, not the greatest guy, but he's not going to lose you games and Benny Snell is going to run it down your throat and I think we're going to do that. And I think Kiffin's going to hang about 70 on an FCS school this week and then Stoops is going to line up and run it down to third next week and we'll win again.

So, yeah, I mean, I think the argument for getting to six wins, which is now what Ryan and Drew has picked, they finally come on board with me, by the way. I've been ringing the 6 and 6 bell since the off season, since last December, so. But the way that I think they get there is you. You win the games you're supposed to and then there's a couple of games that I think are swing games that you can still get. South Carolina on the road is going to be tough this year, but that's a team that you used to dominate. If you're Kentucky, they won seven out of eight at one point during stretch with Mark Stoops. I think they can do it again. You take care of Vandy, which again, Vandy's tougher than they have been in years past, but that's a game that's very winnable. And then you go on the road and maybe knock off your biggest rival. You knock off Louisville at the end and I think that's how you can get to six.

Yeah, I think there's definitely a path to six and six. I mean, Georgia and Texas look, you know, not beatable. But other than that, I think you look at each game in a vacuum. We could, we could win any of them. So I'm not, not conceding South Carolina. I'm definitely not conceding Tennessee or Florida at home. Those are all winnable, I think.
