I mean, you talk about elevating a program, UK volleyball, now synonymous with the best teams in the country. That's got to make you feel good to know you're a part of something like that.

Speaking of the best teams in the country, we just started the season recently and I feel like you all are trying to play every team that's ranked. I know you all didn't build the schedule, but when Coach Skinner puts that in front of you, is it excitement? Is it like, oh my goodness, here we go? I mean, what's the thought process of really running the gauntlet with all these ranked teams so early in your season.

[Molly Tuzzo]

I mean, a little bit of both. It's so exciting. But he's always big on. You got to play the best to beat the best. So I think it's good to play them early on, get that experience, deal with, like, the adversity and the tough losses and the exciting wins. So I think he does it every year and we're excited for it every single time.

[Ryan]

You didn't win the one against Nebraska, even though that was an awesome one to watch. That crowd was fun, even though it's mostly Nebraska. But playing the number one team like that, is there any just taken away that you're able to hang? Are you all so competitive that it's just we didn't win? Or do you. Is there a little bit of. That was number one and we were right there with them.

[Brooklyn Delay]

I mean, that was one of our first games that you learn a lot from those losses, but also it just prepares you for the very end because, like, that crowd was like no other. I mean, our Husker nation always shows out every time. So you're just prepared for, I mean, the tournament going forward.

[Drew]

Molly, you know, you mentioned you played Nebraska first, then your next game should be like a cupcake and you got number two, Penn State next. I mean, did I guess that helped you, though, knowing you just played the number one team, not intimidated by going to play the number two team on their home floor when they were raising their championship banners that night?

[Molly Tuzzo]

Yeah, it fired us up. That was an exciting game. So to get that win and especially a sweep on their super tough crowd, it was incredible.

[Ryan]

Speaking fired up, there's no sport like volleyball where you all root each other on. I mean, every time something happens, it's, let's huddle, let's cheer. You're always pumping something up, pumping each other up. Does that come natural with the sport or is that something you all are constantly looking to do? Because there's nothing like the. The cheering for each other like, when the volleyball team's doing it.

[Brooklyn Delay]

I mean, it just kind of goes along with the sport like it is a momentum sport. So you kind of have to build that for yourself. And you just got to come together after every point to figure out what you're going to do going forward and just. Yeah, you really just come together and play for each other.

[Drew]

You know, you guys have been here, both been here for a couple years. How have you seen the support get, you know, grow since you guys have had this Success. We see it at KS Bar. We have a watch party. Like, Joanie will come up, make sure the game's on a KS Bar and people will come and watch you guys play Nebraska there. Brooklyn. Talk about that. How have you seen it grow since you guys been here?

[Brooklyn Delay]

I mean, it's just insane. Like the crowds. There's almost a new record every year. Like, I mean, Nebraska had the world record, I think it was. So it's just cool that more people are understanding the game and just following along because even like we're getting broadcasted on espn, which is really cool, that's never been done before as well.

[Ryan]

And Kentucky's had some success before you all got here. And if I'm not mistaken, you're Kansas, Texas, not exactly local. When you're going through your recruitment, does Kentucky have that brand power? Is that a big part of why you considered it?

[Molly Tuzzo]

Not even. I think it's just the culture of this place is amazing. It's such a big family and I think being so far from home, as soon as I got here, I was just like, this is where I want to be. This is my family. So it was definitely the culture that was the main reason.

[Ryan]

The new historic Memorial Coliseum. I know you've already had a year that's pretty fancy too. I guess it wasn't ready when you were being recruited, but did you have a pretty good understanding of what you'd be playing in while you were considering your college choices?

[Molly Tuzzo]

I did, yes.

[Ryan]

Pretty nice place, huh?

[Drew]

So you guys are going to fill it to this weekend. You got your home opener 3:00 clock tomorrow. You play SMU. I said, are they any good?

[Ryan]

Top 10, right?

[Drew]

And then you play Houston on Sunday. So you got back to back home games Saturday, Sunday. So finally got some home games. And we can kind of see you guys in live and in person this weekend.

[Brooklyn Delay]

Oh yeah.

[Ryan]

I want to ask about Coach Skinner before we move on to you all playing the next top team. The I think you all might play like Russia next week. Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. But what's Craig Skinner? We've been following him for years. He obviously has a great program, been winning the sec. Seems like every year. Seems like the nicest guy ever too. What's he like behind the scenes as a coach? I know you all have to be fond of him.

[Brooklyn Delay]

I mean he's just awesome. Like he honestly just feels like a second dad to all of us. You know, he's going to be there, have your back and you can just put your full trust into him, because he knows what he's talking about. And you just. I mean, he has the experience and the accolades behind him, so he's just awesome.

[Ryan]

I'll put you on the spot. If he wasn't a volleyball coach, what do you think Craig Skinner would be doing?

[Molly Tuzzo]

Playing golf?

[Drew]

Yeah. I don't know.

[Brooklyn Delay]

Yeah, he's a great golfer. I'm not gonna.

[Ryan]

There we go. Pro golfer, PGA's.

[Drew]

He was what? He was a kicker at Michigan, right? In college. Yeah, he was a college kicker in Michigan, so. But he. But he. He alone is kind of help. This has been his baby to build it up from nothing, you know, So I know he takes great pride in it. What is he like as a coach? Is he a hard ass or is he.

[Ryan]

You don't have to answer that directly.

[Molly Tuzzo]

No, I think he is whenever he needs to be, but he kind of lets us figure it out on our own, which is we honestly really appreciate, but I think there's times whenever he needs to be and we support that.

[Ryan]

Volleyball isn't the biggest sport at a lot of schools, but like Patty here, I saw came up to you all. She does not miss a game. She's got a volleyball bracelet on you all. With the success of Kentucky, I mean, volleyball, y' all are some kind of stars around here. Big stars, really. Do you. Do you feel that presence around Lexington?

[Brooklyn Delay]

I mean, BBN is like no other. Like, you just feel that support when we're at games or just in the crowds, too. So it's just awesome to see that you have people supporting you and that they're loving volleyball just as much as we are.

[Ryan]

I mean, they're. They're sitting in a gas station parking lot. We love this. Gas station parks is awesome, but this is an example of BBN being slightly crazy on a Friday morning.

[Drew]

So talk about your youth clinics you do through Clark's Pump and Shop.

[Molly Tuzzo]

I mean, they're amazing opportunities. We appreciate Clark's Pump and Shop and Rick and everyone who kind of gives us these opportunities. I think we are given so much being here, so it's just amazing every single time we get to give back to that.

[Drew]

Is the turnout always pretty, pretty good with the young girls coming out, trying to learn the game?

[Molly Tuzzo]

Yes. There's a lot of people at every clinic.

[Drew]

Do you see the kind of popularity of it growing in the Lexington area? I mean, I know you kind of got a connection to Lexington with your boyfriend being from Harrison County.

[Molly Tuzzo]

Shout out.

[Drew]

Yeah, I covered her boyfriend in high school.

[Ryan]

Oh, okay.

[Drew]

Oh, wait a minute. Her boyfriend's son. Yeah. Wait, what dad? Boyfriend's dad. I covered her boyfriend's dad.

Do you see what we deal with every day? This is what we put up with Monday through Friday. Thank you for helping us.

Brian Witajewski, Harrison County's finest covered him in high school. So his son is your boyfriend. You kind of got a local connection. Have you seen it grow?

Yeah, sure.

Might have to contact the volleyball office. That sounds pretty fun. I don't know what I'm doing next Thursday. That sounds fun. Oh, what they're Playing another ranked team on Thursday. Louisville's ranked. Are they going to play the whole top 25? They're on pace.

They've got to have the toughest schedule in the nation. I can't imagine another volleyball team having a better or, you know, a tougher.

[Drew]

Schedule than somebody pointed out on the aviation glass text machine. I just saw it. They have to play these tough non conference games because they dominate the conference so much. So UK is the number one team in the sec. They kill everybody. No, we got to play these top 10 teams non conference just to get some good matches.

[Ryan]

There's a few. Texas, Florida, they're always tough. But I get it. I get it. A and M smart to do that.

[Shannon]

I mean, you're going to, as I always say on the basketball side, why not play in the non conference of the best teams that you can play? You're going to see those same teams again in the NCAA tournament. So why would you not play them in the regular season if you have the opportunity to?

[Drew]

Yeah. They divided and conquered. It's what they do.

[Drew]

What was that?

[Shannon]

It's aliens. What do you mean? What was it? I don't know. You think I have the answers? I'm not sure. I think there's a lot of strange things that are out there, and this is just another one of those. I don't really know how to explain. I saw the video. I don't really know how to explain what I saw, though.

[Ryan]

And that wasn't like some crazy person. That was Congress, right?

[Drew]

That's right.

[Ryan]

Yeah.

[Drew]

Congress. ABC News played it, but nobody has an answer. What? That was aliens.

[Ryan]

I mean, I've been telling y' all for years, and you act like I'm crazy. I mean, they're. They're up there, and they're getting closer and closer.

[Mario]

Right? You don't. You don't believe in aliens?

[Ryan]

Is that it?

[Drew]

I would. I always thought we can't be the only beings in this whole universe. There has to be something somewhere.

[Shannon]

Well, we found it.

[Ryan]

Yeah. Now they're flying over the ocean, and we gotta up our missiles. They're not working.

[Shannon]

You can shoot them. They'll just split into threes.

[Drew]

And they all three kept going.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Drew]

Yeah. So why didn't they try to shoot one of the other three pieces?

[Ryan]

Then they'd have none. They were in big trouble.

[Shannon]

That's true. That's true. Then you go to 18 and then 36, and you see stuff.

[Drew]

There's no explanation. That one kind of one of those things, like, there's no explanation for what happened. What is that?

[Ryan]

And the source, like, it's not just some Facebook video where you're like, is this doctored? No, they're actually looking into what that was.

[Drew]

Another story that we kind of touched on when it happened was about Cracker Barrel.

[Shannon]

Oh, yeah.

[Drew]

Did you see Cracker Barrel? They're dropping the remodel. Gonna go back to the old Cracker Barrel. Did they even remodel any of them?

[Shannon]

Well, there was four of them that got remodeled, so now those four are going to be special Cracker Barrels. I've never seen anybody backtrack as quickly as they have, but at least they were smart enough to listen to the majority of people who said, what are you doing? Very cool. You got to meet him. I remember a young Drew Franklin at Mike Phillips camp in Madisonville, and Kyle Macy made a trip for one of the days. It was a big deal. Learning how to shoot free throws from Cal Macy. Obviously I didn't learn, but he was trying to teach me how to do it.

It was like. It was like a little thing he had. I forget what it was now.

Well, thanks for taking my call. Gentlemen. I was. I tuned in this morning, and the best thing I heard in the show the whole day was Tracy, Polly was in the room, and Jerry was When Jerry first came to Florida, he immediately found our group in Orlando, and he added a lot to our group in the short time he was there. And I just want Tracy to know that we really miss her down here and that I wish we were all there to give her a good hug.

[Drew]

Jerry tragically passed away, so Tracy has since moved back up here to Kentucky. It's great to see you again, Tracy. You look great. And we all miss Jerry. All of us do. All big blue nation. And you can hear the emotion in Gary's voice and means a lot to a lot of people. So we all miss him. Don't cry. You gonna make me cry. We're having a good time. All right, who's next? Liam's. I thought that was Matt. Thank you for having the volleyball women on. I coached and played for two, three decades. I really appreciate you guys doing that. If there was a Clark's pump and shop nearby, I'd go there. I'd pump, I'd shop. I hope all UK Volleyball fans and fans of female and women athletics in state go to Sport Clarks today for doing that. Well done by you guys for having them on. They were great. I look forward to the matches tomorrow and this season.

Well, appreciate it, Joe. We need to give a big shout out to the Women's Nil Collective with UK W1974 for helping organize this. Joanie does that through the Scott County Humane Society. A lot of times through Clark's Pumping Shop gets us access to some athletes. Aiden Laross has been on because of them before. And now today we have the volleyball girls here today.

Yeah, we were just talking about the song here with Clark's and, you know, nil. We're all still getting used to it, but an Example of the volleyball gal today coming out here. That's exactly what Nil is supposed to do about.

[Drew]

Yeah, Their youth clinics, they give out, becoming more popular. That's another good reason for. We do have to say a very KSR thing just happened here. We were giving out Eric Church tickets.

[Shannon]

Oh, yeah, yeah.

So they gave out these free sunglasses. Everybody here got free sunglasses. And then Rachel came out and said, okay, look in your sunglasses. If you have the letter E on one of the packaging, you win the Eric Church tickets. Nobody. Nobody had the E. Went around. Everybody's looking at their sunglasses. Nobody had the E. Come to find it. Finally found our friends from Hilton Head that are here, back here behind the wall, getting out of the sunshine. Yeah, finally they had the E on their sunglasses. So somebody did win the Eric Church tickets.
