Oh. We are live at KS Bar and Grill, where it is Wings day. And for our friend Noah, that means each wing is a dollar. Not all your wings are a dollar dollar. Wings Noah, so you got to come in, you buy ten wings. How much? Ten dollars. Noah, to make sure you get that straight. So Ryan Limb and Shan the dude here. We've got our week of couple, well, three weeks of Matt being gone. So we're bringing in some special guests today. We are honored. A veteran of the Leach Report, a veteran at WKYT Sports, Mr. Lee K. Howard in the house.
Lee K. Howard
What up, Lee K. Hey, it's good to be here. In fact, I haven't been back over to KS Bar since you guys redid it in here. Looks awesome.
Ryan Lemond
Thank you.
Lee K. Howard
Looks great.
Ryan Lemond
We tried to.
Lee K. Howard
You do all the decorating in here.
Ryan Lemond
Drew and I did. Drew and I did a little remodel work. You know, the pictures kind of put up some different things and stuff. Got some New Jersey, so see all the things. So, Shannon, you may remember this. Lee K. Is no stranger to KSR either. He famously was co hosting KSR one morning with Dave Buzz Baker, and Buzz was going to be the lead. Lee K. Was the co host. Dave Buzz Baker did not show up on time. Right.
Lee K. Howard
That's when. And Shannon yelled at me. I remember this.
Shannon the Dude
I yelled at you?
Lee K. Howard
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Lemond
No, no.
Lee K. Howard
So this was like, this was like a decade plus ago. This is before KSR got so big that, like, Jay Billis and Howard Stern were doing the summer shows and. And they were asking just anybody to do the summer show as Matt was. And he had asked Buzz Baker to anchor a summer show or host a summer show. And the night before, Buzz text me, and he said, hey, I'm hosting KSR tomorrow. Can you jump in with me? And I was like, sure, why not? So I drive over to the Nicholasville iheart studios.
Ryan Lemond
The old building.
Lee K. Howard
The old building. And I'm there at like 9:40, because I'm just. I want to be prepared, right? And 9:50 comes along. No buzz, I'm sitting there. 9:55 comes along. And if you know Buzz Ryan, you know he's notoriously late to everything.
Ryan Lemond
Always comes in at the last minute, last minute. But he usually makes it.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah, he'll. He'll. He'll be putting his microphone on in the studio at wkyt like, seconds before he talks. So I'm not too worried. But then it gets to like, almost 10 o', clock, and I'm thinking, is Buzz gonna be here? So I start texting him, hey, man, you. Are you coming? And he texts me back, yeah, I'm in the parking lot. Be right in. I'm like, okay, sounds good.
Ryan Lemond
We're good.
Lee K. Howard
It gets to like a minute or 2 after 10 o'. Clock. Finally, here comes Buzz walking into the studios. He's carrying a stack of papers. He sets him down on the table, goes, gotta go to the restroom. I'll be right back. I'm like, okay, wait, What? So. Because 10 hours ago, I didn't even know I was gonna be on the show. I hadn't prepared. It was a summer show, so there's not an obvious topic. We hadn't talked one second about what we were gonna discuss. So he leaves the room. Well, I have my headset sitting on the table in front of me, so I can still kind of hear it. And all of a sudden, I start hearing Werewolves of London. Dun dun, dun, dun dun. And it's like three times into it. And I did one of the dumbest things I've ever done in my broadcasting career, media career. I pick up the headset and I spoke into the microphone and I go, shannon. Shannon, are we on?
Ryan Lemond
I don't know.
Lee K. Howard
Like, was Shannon just practicing?
WashablesOfSofas Announcer
I don't know.
Lee K. Howard
And Shannon goes, you could be more irritated. She had it. Goes, yeah, we're on. It's ksr. We're live. We're live. You're on.
Ryan Lemond
Come on. You don't. You know what you're doing?
Lee K. Howard
Yeah. And I'm thinking. I'm thinking, I don't know the phone number. I don't know a sponsor.
Ryan Lemond
And.
Lee K. Howard
And so I just babble, probably for like 10 seconds. It feels like 10 minutes. And then finally, here comes Buzz walking into the studio. He could not be bothered. He was not in a hurry. Just walks over, picks up his thing, goes, all right, where are we at? You know, so anyway, that was. I'm surprised you guys had me back after that performance.
Ryan Lemond
Well, it has been 10 years or so, so we had to, you know, put you on the suspension list, I guess, for 10 years. Was it your fault, though?
Lee K. Howard
It wasn't, but it felt like my fault. It was. It was bad. So I got here early today. But I will tell you, Ryan, if you weren't in this building when I walked in, I was going to just hang out the parking lot because I did not need Shannon yelling at me again for starting the show terribly.
Shannon the Dude
I have no memory of that whatsoever. But I would assume that's the last time you ever agreed to do a show with Buzz after that day.
Lee K. Howard
Yes, yes, yes. Now. Now I wait till he gets there and I show up after him.
Ryan Lemond
You did a show one time with Cameron Mills, you said at ksr with Cameron Mills way back in the day also.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah. Hosted with Cameron. That was. That was. I think that day. We talked the entire show about how college athletes shouldn't be paid.
Ryan Lemond
Wow.
Lee K. Howard
So that is not age.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Lee K. Howard
And in fact, world.
Ryan Lemond
The world has changed. Yeah.
Lee K. Howard
And in fact, I've changed my opinions greatly on that subject. But, yeah, it's. It's been a while, but it's good to be back.
Ryan Lemond
Good to be back. Good to have you back.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Lee K. Howard from wkyt. Those in the Lexington area know you've been KYT now how many years?
Lee K. Howard
Fourteen.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, my goodness. Have you really?
Lee K. Howard
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Wow. You started KYT about the time I started ksr, I guess about the same time.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah. In fact, I remember moving to Lexington and you guys were just getting kind of big. You had been around, but, like, KSR was really becoming a thing, and it's crazy to see, like, the trajectory of. Of this show and how it's not only statewide but almost, like, nationally known in a lot of ways. So, yeah, that. It's been a while.
Ryan Lemond
So we got Lee K. Here, and we're gonna have like an ask anything Wednesday. I'll open up the phone line, take a lot of calls today. 859-280-2287. That's the Clark's Pump Shop phone number if you want to call and get on board. I do have the aviation glass text machine. Although my screen's sideways, I can't get my screen back the way I. I like it. Lee K. You may have to help me with.
Lee K. Howard
There's a lock screen function on that.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, but. Oh, wait a minute. I had it upside down. Oh, there you go. There you go. See, now I went the right way. I'm old. All right. I said today is September 17th. It is yoga girl's birthday.
Shannon the Dude
You got big plans, right?
Ryan Lemond
Of course. You know where I'm taking her to dinner tonight? There's only one place you go for special birthday dinners, right? Especially if she lives in Georgetown. Rodney's on Broadway in Georgetown gets a visit tonight.
Shannon the Dude
We all know that you over the years have gotten free meals at Rodney's. Will you be getting a free birthday dinner tonight for her?
Ryan Lemond
I hope not.
Shannon the Dude
I hope you pay like you should.
Ryan Lemond
Yes. For a birthday.
Shannon the Dude
It makes you look bad if you get a free birthday dinner for her.
Ryan Lemond
I agree. If I get it free, and I feel like I still owe her one, I still got to go out and take her somewhere, so. So, yeah, feel free to, like, send her a couple messages. I tweeted some very beautiful and attractive photos of her already this morning, so I'm sure she's really gonna appreciate that.
Shannon the Dude
Look this up.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Shannon the Dude
So you take her to Rodney's for a free steak, and then you take her to KS Bar afterwards. Right? Is that what.
Ryan Lemond
That's true? Yeah. Get my owner's discount here at KS Bar and Grill. So, okay, this is what I want to start the show with. Yesterday we had the field of 68 guys in here.
Lee K. Howard
Yep.
Ryan Lemond
Jeff Goodman, Rob Doster, Jack Pilgrim helped me co host. They were great. But we only had them for, like, 30 minutes because they had to leave, go to UK practice. We had to do their own UK interviews, do their own podcast, and watch UK practice. After UK's practice, the plan was they were going to come out of the craft center, meet Jack Pilgrim, Steven Peak, and do, sources say, podcast for them. Right before the podcast started, they were going to call an Uber. So while the Uber was en route to pick them up at the craft center, they were going to stand out there with Jack and Steven and report on what they saw at practice for the podcast. Plan was perfect. Practice went a little long. Jack Pilgrim said he got a text from Rob Doster, said, hey, man, practice going long. We're not going to have time. We have to get to the airport. Our flight's at like, 7:00', clock, and right now it was already like, 5:30, something like that. So Jack called an audible, decides, I'll take him to the airport. This is where the story gets beautiful, Shannon. They put Rob Doster and Jeff Goodman in the backseat. Steven Peake was in the passenger seat with his camera and microphone. Jack was driving, and they did the podcast in the car while driving the two guys to the airport. I mean, if that is. That is so KSR right there. I. It's the best Lee K. It's the best reporter interview since Cutler chased down Billy Gillespie over at the Memorial Coliseum.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah, that was gonna be hard to top. But I do, you know, first of all, Jack does an awesome job. They do a great job with that, Sources say podcast, and I watched the entire thing last night.
Ryan Lemond
I did, too.
Lee K. Howard
And I'll be honest, had they just been standing outside of the craft center, I don't know that I would have watched the whole thing.
Ryan Lemond
Good point.
Lee K. Howard
And first of all, it wouldn't have gone that long. So they almost found a way to have a captive interview, a captive audience. It's not like they were going to just quit.
Ryan Lemond
They just quit talking. They were in the back seat of the car.
Lee K. Howard
You literally had a destination to get to. And into the interview. So, no, I thought it was. I thought it was awesome. And my only concern, Shannon, was I don't know if you saw trying to put Doster and Goodman's luggage in the back of that car. I don't know whose car it was, but.
Ryan Lemond
There'S an outtake that Jack sent me. As they first pulled away from the craft center, Jack almost hit somebody. He almost killed him. Pulled right in front of somebody, it looked like.
Shannon the Dude
So that would have been a completely different podcast.
Ryan Lemond
I encourage everybody to go listen to this. It's on YouTube. You can watch it and listen to it for two reasons. One is just the hilariousness of it happening in the backseat of this. Of Jack's car while Jack's driving. Jack's asking the questions while he's driving.
Lee K. Howard
Right.
Ryan Lemond
But the second reason is there's a lot of really good info in there about this basketball team. I guess the big newsy thing was Ortega O way has suffered the Joe Burrow injury and has turf toe. That's why he's been walking around in a boot. And apparently he's gonna have another couple.
Lee K. Howard
Weeks in the boot.
Ryan Lemond
And what did the Bengals lose? Joe Burrow. And now the Cats lose. Will take it for a short time with turf toe.
Lee K. Howard
Listen, I didn't know turf toe was such a big deal. Obviously, my athletic career didn't span past high school, but, like, that seems to be a big deal. Although the good thing is it seems like Ortega's is not near as, you know, you know, bad, I guess, as Joe Burrows is going to keep him out for a couple months. But no, that was great. And you can tell that Goodman and Duster have a great relationship with Pope.
Ryan Lemond
Absolutely.
Lee K. Howard
And so they're able to, one, get into a practice like none of the rest of us local media can and get all this information. And I thought it was very informative. The Otega thing was informative. Kind of like some of their insights on, you know, which player was doing what and who seems to be kind of ahead of the others. I thought if you get a chance, I mean, a lot of that stuff was really good.
Ryan Lemond
It was.
Lee K. Howard
They were also really high on Jalen Lowe, which was good.
Ryan Lemond
So we're going to break down everybody just everything they said here. The next segment kind of go bit by bit, because, like I said, it's really good information they got from having to watch practice, talk to the guys, talk to Pope, and kind of get a feel of what this basketball team is all about. So we'll take our break. We'll take your calls all day long. Ask anything. Wednesday 859-280-2287. That's the Clark's Pump Shop phone number. Avision Glass text machine is 5027. See, five plus zero plus two equals 7:35, 36 80. So I'm gonna ask you later. 502 7:35, 36 80.
Lee K. Howard
I feel like that's not the right cadence for a phone number, but I'll try. Okay.
Ryan Lemond
Ryan Shannon the Dude and Lee K. Howard in the house. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan Shannon the dude and Lee K. Howard. Before we go to the what the basketball tidbits we want to talk about. I did get a text on the a vision glass text machine, Shan. It says, are you sure that's Lee K. Howard? It sounds like Rick the producer. No, they sound alike.
Shannon the Dude
No, he doesn't sound like Rick at all.
Ryan Lemond
Really?
Shannon the Dude
No, man. Lee K. Didn't mention wine one time. That's very true.
Ryan Lemond
Very true. Yeah. So, all right. We talked about the field of 68 guys. Jeff Goodman and Rob Doster went to practice yesterday, got to talk to Coach Pope and a lot of the players. I'm just going to go down some stuff that they talked about in the crazy podcast from the backseat of Jack Pilgrim's car. And you guys, both of you want to comment on it? Then the one thing I think was Jeff Goodman who said, make no mistake about it, this is Jalen Lowe's team. He is the leader. It's his team. They go as he goes, yeah, and.
Lee K. Howard
I think that's what everybody wanted to hear because Pope's system, historically, if he's got a good point guard to run it, it can, it can go. And we saw when Lamont Butler last year was healthy how good this team could be run. And then of course they got into trouble with, with injuries at that point guard position. But the way that Jalen can, can really effectively run this, this Pope system I think people are going to love because last year at Pitt he had to be a guy who shot all the shots, the good shots, the bad shots, whatever. He can work on being a distributor this year and we got to interview him once in the summer and it was great hearing from him because that's what he wants to do. Like he's, he seems like one of those pass first point guards. He wants to distribute the ball and he's on a team right now that he's going to have so many options, so many guys he can get the ball to.
Ryan Lemond
Shannon.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, I mean, I think that's what you want to hear. He's the guy that's going to, you know, make the offense go. And I think that a lot of the offense is going to go through he and Ortega away as long as we can get away healthy to the point. On OA with that turf toe, he said that if it were like a game today or tomorrow, he would be able to play. So we don't have to worry about. I don't think about always injury much but. But yeah, I think a lot of that offense is going to go through those two guys.
Ryan Lemond
I agree.
Lee K. Howard
And can you imagine when you get those two on the floor together?
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Lee K. Howard
Like, I mean that, that is a onew punch that any team in the, in America would take with, with Jaylen and Ortega.
Ryan Lemond
Talk about Jalen and Ortega. Both Rob and Jeff both emphasized several times that there are seven perimeter players that not just can play, are gonna play seven different guys that may be as deep a backcourt as we've ever had here.
Lee K. Howard
Well, there was a previous coach at the school that didn't play seven players.
Ryan Lemond
Well, that's a good point complete, I.
Lee K. Howard
Mean at all positions. And so you've got, you've got the ability to put seven guys in. I think Jalen and Ortega are going to eat up most of those minutes. But you're right, you, I mean you've got to find a way to get Aberdeen into, into the game. I mean he was on a national championship team last year. I think Jasper Johnson is another guy who you know he's going to play. He's got this upside that maybe some of these other guys don't have, but he doesn't have the experience. I mean, there's going to be a lot of guys who come in thinking that they've got a lot of minutes. They're going to have to share minutes. But I think most of these guys understand that.
Ryan Lemond
Shannon.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, I mean, Pope believes that he is deep and I mean super deep, one through 13. He mentioned you were talking about the seven perimeter players. He's got seven guys. He says in practice. This is hard to believe, but he says they're shooting 70% from three.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Shannon the Dude
Including yellow, who is shooting 77% this past week in practice from three. If you. I don't think that's going to translate to 70% in gameplay. If so, then we've got an NBA team on our hands and we're, we're going to win the national championship if we got guys that can shoot that well in the game. But just to hear that even in practice, I think is. Is amazing. So I think that this is going to be maybe the best three point shooting team we've ever had. He said he wants to break that record of most three pointers made in a single season. If he's got guys that can shoot that well, I think we're, we're on our way to seeing that happen this season.
Ryan Lemond
One more point, we're going to go to the phone lines where you're talking about Yellow bitch. You know. Yeah, he did say guy been shooting 77% from threes during practice. And oh, by the way, he's 610. Yeah, they're like a better version. I think we might have been Goodman. So he's better going to be a better version of. Than Andrew Carr was. Wow.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah, he's the guy that I think a lot of people want to see because he's like the great mystery, you know, and we don't have to go too far back in the past to see like a Zvonimir v Sit. And people were so excited to see what he could do. And everything that I've heard is Yellow Vic is further along at this point in his career than I said ever was. So Yellow Vic is going to be a guy that like, like you said, the Andrew Carr role.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Lee K. Howard
And I think that's how they described. I think that's how Goodman described him on that, on that podcast. But I think he can do more than what Andrew did. I mean, he can step out, take the shots. He can we've seen a lot of video from his, his league across wherever it was, Bmax or whatever it was called. And he can get the ball to the rim. I mean he's, he's a talented, talented player. I think he's one of those players that Pope just loves to have in his system because he can do so much with him in a way that he's like a unicorn.
Ryan Lemond
Right? Yeah.
Shannon the Dude
The guy's already a pro and when I think, think of, you know, yellow, I can't help but think of visage. Right in my mind. That's so I can't wait to see him actually to play a game. But I just imagine him going out there and having every game like a visage. First game against was it Georgia where he came out and knocked down like three straight three point shots. So I can't wait to see him. I think he's probably the guy that I'm really Most intrigued to see.
Ryan Lemond
859-280-2287. We'll get back to some more comments about the practice from yesterday that Jeff Goodman and Rob Duster got to witness. But we got a phone call. Shannon, who we got?
Shannon the Dude
Let's go to Andy.
Ryan Lemond
Andy, Go ahead. Andy.
Caller
Hey, what's up, guys?
Ryan Lemond
Andy, you're on with Lee K. Howard today.
Lee K. Howard
Andy.
Caller
Hey, how you guys doing?
Lee K. Howard
We're good.
Ryan Lemond
Good.
Caller
For Ask Anything Wednesday. I just had a question. But on college game day where they do the kick for the money, the, the college players do before the games, you got Pat McAfee and all them and Pat McAfee saying if this guy gets that kick, I will donate a hundred thousand dollars. And then, so whoever matches it and then they do the charity, do they really? Does Pat McAfee really donate a hundred thousand dollars out of his account out of the goodness of his heart? I've trouble believing that.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I didn't see that question coming, Andy. But I guess if he puts his money where his mouth is, his mouth's getting him in trouble, that somebody hits it. I guess he's got to come up with that somehow or what's going to say every week. But how many guys actually hit it?
Caller
It's happened, I think twice already.
Ryan Lemond
Twice.
Shannon the Dude
I mean, I don't know what Pat McAfee is making. I'm sure he's making good money.
Ryan Lemond
I'm sure he's making big money.
Shannon the Dude
It depends on what $200,000 means to him.
Lee K. Howard
So, yeah, he's, he's probably in the shin and the dude money category. So he's he's got, he's got plenty. He's got plenty Andy to throw around.
Shannon the Dude
In that case then he's bankrupt now. Thanks for the call, Andy.
Caller
Well, he's all right. You take it easy.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, man.
Ryan Lemond
859-280-2287. If you want to call and get on board, we'll get to get you in here.
Lee K. Howard
Maybe it's like one of those things where you know, you see the half court shot and you know, like at Rupp, it's that central bank half court shot, right. And basically they buy an insurance policy where it's like $100,000 but the insurance policy that UK has to buy is like 100 bucks. So maybe, maybe there's some sort of like insurance policy that, that McAfee has that if, if he spends a hundred dollars then somebody, I'm just guessing but I can't imagine he's giving away $100,000.
Ryan Lemond
Gotta be a sponsor. Probably gonna, right?
Lee K. Howard
Yeah. Out of his own bank account.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Lee K. Howard
Because every once in a while this was the thing that stood out to me. This last week at game day, I think it was last week or maybe the week before the kid that they picked out of the stands actually was wearing football cleats. Like he, it was almost like he came prepared. Like how do you pick that guy? Because you know he can hit it.
Ryan Lemond
And he did hit it.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah, yeah, he hit it.
Ryan Lemond
He's probably a kicker at some high school or small college or something somewhere, right?
Lee K. Howard
So.
Ryan Lemond
859-280-2287 alright, you know, we'd mentioned about kind of the newsy thing that came out of their podcast yesterday was about Ortega the turf toll. The other kind of newsy item was the fact that Colin Chandler was told him that he was basically hurt most of the year last year. You know, he really came on at the end of the season. I guess maybe that's when he finally was healthy. You know, he got the slow start because he was on his mission and kind of, you know, getting the rust off. But maybe he, you know, was injured and the Weezaws didn't know it. Once he got healthy then we saw the results of what he can be. Drew has already gone on record saying he expects that's the big breakout player, the guy that makes the big jump this year. Where do you see Colin Chandler fitting into what after what you heard yesterday?
Lee K. Howard
Yeah, it makes sense what they said because you could see kind of the trajectory of Colin throughout the year and it felt like the last month, month and a half he Got really good, you know, and a lot of that we all kind of attributed to, well, he hasn't played basketball and a year or two, you know, and so like he had to get his, his legs under him. But if it was true, like Jeff Goodman said that he was injured for part of it and part of that was just him getting healthy then, then look out because he, he was like. I can remember that Vandy game in particular. He came out in Rupp and played really, really well and looked like he would. Well, he took over Travis Perry's spot as the backup point. He did at that point. So if he can make another leap. And I think it was either Doster or Goodman yesterday talked about kind of how bouncy he is, how athletic he is.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Talking about how mobile he was.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah. I think, I think there's a lot that, that, that Chandler can do. So I, I like Shannon. I like what, what Colin Chandler can bring to the stage.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, I mean, if you go back to last season, he was a guy that I didn't think really would get any significant playing time at all. And at the end of the year, he's one of our best players on the floor. So I feel like he brings so much to the team. He makes it difficult for Pope to keep him on the bench. He almost forces you to play him. And I think that he is going to have a big role in this team. Now, I don't know, like, if you were to say, how many minutes is he going to get? I don't know about that, but I think that he will continue to have a significant role on this team.
Lee K. Howard
And I think he's kind of, in a way, he's kind of the backup point guard. Right?
Ryan Lemond
Right. Because him or Aberdeen, one of the two guys.
Lee K. Howard
Exactly. And I think like I said earlier, Low is going to demand the majority of those minutes, but you got to have somebody behind him and that's the only obvious position. Position that doesn't have an obvious backup behind him. Jalen Lowe.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. They said he's, like you said, more mobile, guarding better. Confidence seems to be up. So if Drew's right, we can expect a big breakout season sophomore season from, from Colin Chandler. All right, we'll get ready to take our break. Phone lines are open. 859-280-2287. That's the Clark's publish out phone number. Ask anything. Wednesday, it's wings day here at KS Bar and Grill. We open the door here a little bit. Dollar wings, bone in and boneless wings. A dollar each Each Noah. Right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj. He'll make him pay.
Shannon the Dude
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Ryan Lemond
Shannon the dude. What are you implying with your musical selections today?
Shannon the Dude
Oh, I. I was just like the. The next song up on the rotation. I don't know.
Ryan Lemond
That was the next song in the rotation.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, you know, it's like I hit a button and it just plays whatever's next.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, well, you know, it's. It's not my birthday. It's her birthday.
Shannon the Dude
Right. Well, it takes two to tango, so.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah. I'm just curious, Ryan. What. What does. What does a Ryan yoga girl birthday look like? Is it. You said dinner. Is it like, do you. Do you buy a car? Do you buy, like, a gift?
Ryan Lemond
I already, already.
Lee K. Howard
By the way, Mario just walked in here and he just walked up to the table.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I did.
Lee K. Howard
To look at Ryan.
Ryan Lemond
So this morning, I got up at 7:30 this morning.
Lee K. Howard
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
To go get her some roses. Took them to her employer, her school where she works, with a card. Had them deliver the roses in the card to her classroom.
Lee K. Howard
Oh, you're already way ahead.
Ryan Lemond
And then the card says, she didn't know we were going. The card says, you know, it's your birthday tonight. We're going to Rodney's on Broadway. I had a little poem in there. Even it was better than that. It was better than that.
Lee K. Howard
I was gonna say, did you write that yourself?
Ryan Lemond
That's good. That's good.
Shannon the Dude
What was the poem? Can you not say it on the radio?
Ryan Lemond
No, I think it was just like, I'm so excited today's your birthday, so get cleaned up. We're going to Rodney's on Broadway. I think that's what it said, something like that.
Lee K. Howard
Roses are red, violets are blue. I'm going to Rodney's and so are you.
Caller
So.
Shannon the Dude
Okay, so Shakespeare.
Ryan Lemond
I give away the rest of my secrets because she's not listening right now. She's teaching class.
Lee K. Howard
Yep.
Ryan Lemond
So we go to Rodney's on Broadway. I'm gonna slide her another card. It's got another surprise in it.
Lee K. Howard
Okay.
Shannon the Dude
Wedding certificate.
Ryan Lemond
No, Sean Cassidy is her favorite performer from back in her youth. Okay, so Sean Cassidy's performing in Cincinnati. We saw it this week. I was like, okay, I'm buying tickets right now. So we bought tickets. I'm taking her to see Sean Cassidy in Cincinnati in November.
Lee K. Howard
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
She doesn't know and didn't know time. I already bought concert tickets for another concert. That's in October up in Cincinnati. So when I slide her the card at dinner she's going to get surprise. Another surprise.
Lee K. Howard
That's good, that's good. I like that. Keep.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, yeah, all day. And then the practical gift, Shannon, she lost her keys and couldn't find them for like a whole day. So I got one of those key finders she can put on her keychain. You know that's the old person gift right there.
Shannon the Dude
I mean I've actually got one so I don't think there's any, any shame in that.
Ryan Lemond
So there we go.
Shannon the Dude
Sean Cassidy.
Ryan Lemond
Sean Cassidy.
Lee K. Howard
Ryan the Casanova.
Ryan Lemond
Which if you remember when I was under anesthesia from the colonoscopy I started singing do run run run do run run. Yeah, that day.
Shannon the Dude
So can we run that back again? Like can you get another colonoscopy so we can have another show?
Ryan Lemond
I gotta, I gotta do one next year. Every five years. I'll be 60 next year so I have to do another one. So you had that time you had.
Lee K. Howard
A colonoscopy and you started singing do run run.
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Lee K. Howard
Seems appropriate.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, yeah. Don't know why. And I was craving a cheeseburger. I started talking about trying to go get a cheeseburger immediately.
Shannon the Dude
We gotta go get a cheeseburger. I gotta find that drop. I'll play it for you. Alright.
Ryan Lemond
859-280-2287. That's the Clark's Pumping Shop phone number. Who we got?
Lee K. Howard
Shannon.
Shannon the Dude
John.
Ryan Lemond
John. Go ahead, John.
Caller
Hey fellas, how are you?
Ryan Lemond
How are you John?
Caller
My biggest news that I took away from the interviews was that Colin Chandler said that during a scrimmage yesterday, cam Williams hit 10 three pointers in a row. They just kept feeding him and he hit ten three pointers in a row during a scrimmage.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Present Funko. That's on my list to discuss it. So let's talk about that Cam Williams, a guy we never talk about and when we talk about everybody else, he's the one guy that probably got gets lost in the shuffle more than anybody and it comes out that he hit 10 threes in a row during the scrimmage. Now I want to piggyback that by saying one of the TBT guys, I don't remember who it was, came on this show and, and said that Can Williams is a better shooter than Kobe Braya. Can we believe how much stock we put into this?
Lee K. Howard
I mean that's tough because Kobe was a knockdown shooter and I think Cam has a little bit more to his game. First of all the reason that nobody talks about him. If you remember, he committed while Kentucky was still in the tournament. I remember standing in Indianapolis and it was like we were getting ready for another live hit and was like, oh, yeah, Kentucky just got to commit. And it was Cam Williams. So I think his timing on when he committed and then the fact that he's from. From Tulane, it kind of got lost in the shuffle. But I do remember, like, early on, he was one of the guys that people were talking about. He has the potential to be an NBA guy just because of his skill set. So it doesn't surprise me that he's a guy that can knock down 10 threes in a row. I mean, that's. Who knows if he's better than Kobe or not. That'll be. To be. To be determined. But if he can, that's a. That's a weapon.
Ryan Lemond
You got to get that guy on the floor. Shannon, go out and hit 10 threes in a scrimmage game.
Shannon the Dude
I think Pope's going to have the problem of trying to figure out how to divide the minutes when you got this many guys that can knock down three point shots for you. I mean, we just mentioned seven. You can only play five. So how do you keep everybody happy? That might be his biggest struggle this year, is trying to keep everybody happy. And here's your drop, by the way of your cheeseburger.
Ryan Lemond
Immediately we leave here, we had to go get a cheeseburger. Well, that's really funny. Make fun of the poor man who's on anesthesia from his first colonoscopy.
Shannon the Dude
One more time.
Ryan Lemond
Immediately we leave here, we need to go get a cheeseburger, because you can't eat for, like, two days leading up to it.
Lee K. Howard
I've had one.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. So I was hungry, man. I don't need a cheeseburger.
Lee K. Howard
So why. Why agreed to have that on the radio? I have no idea.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, well, we know, Lee K. We've not done it once, We've done it twice. Oh, wow. Live in the recovery room after my colonoscopy.
Shannon the Dude
So I feel like the second time, it wasn't that eventful, was it?
Ryan Lemond
No, because remember, I think I've kind of fell asleep even in the middle of it. And Drew's like, oh, we lost him.
Lee K. Howard
He's asleep.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
They had to kind of wake me back up. I was really out of it that day.
Lee K. Howard
Did somebody have a cheeseburger waiting on you the moment you woke up?
Ryan Lemond
No, but they should have.
Shannon the Dude
If somebody was smart, they would use that as an endorsement opportunity. And have a cheeseburger there for you.
Ryan Lemond
You know, well, you got a year. I turned 60 next year, so we'll do it next year.
Lee K. Howard
Or maybe stock, maybe Stockton Mortgage could have a read for you. Ready to read the moment you come.
Shannon the Dude
Out, walk out the door here, Ryan.
Lee K. Howard
Read this, read this. And then they could use that as their read.
Ryan Lemond
Well, you know, Shannon, I think Stockton Mortgage is sponsoring this segment anyway, aren't they?
Shannon the Dude
Yes. They are so jealous about it.
Ryan Lemond
I'm going to tell you about Stockton Mortgage. Good segue there, Lee K. You know, the interest rates are lower now than they've been in three years. They're like at 6.1, maybe 6.2. There's a chance they may even go in lower with what's going on with the Fed. So if you've been on the fence waiting on the interest rates to drop, they may not get any lower than this for a long time. Who knows? But they are, they're low right now. So if you want, if you're thinking about it, you ought to at least go get pre approved and our friends at Stockton Mortgage can help you. Just go to stockton.com there's a button there to get started. They'll hook you up with the loan officer. They're all great. They're all across Kentucky and they're everywhere because, Shannon, they are growing, growing. Stockton Mortgage stockton.com NMLS 8259/equal housing lender NMLS/education dog Word Channing do you remember a couple days ago that a caller called in and said he was on an overseas flight and Mark Pope was on the plane?
Shannon the Dude
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I do remember that.
Ryan Lemond
Well, it's come out that maybe we know why he was flying overseas. His daughter, I believe, was Emory. I think he's not the Emory.
Lee K. Howard
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
Is in El Salvador on a mission trip and had to have an emergency appendectomy. And Pope, I think, went down to see her. So I think that answers the question why he was on an overseas flight. He was flying down to sit at bedside with his daughter. They had emergency surgery down there.
Lee K. Howard
I do think that one of his daughters is on her, on, on the mission. And maybe that's. That's what that is.
Ryan Lemond
But it's Emory or Avery. Avery. Okay, Avery.
Lee K. Howard
There you go. But no, I mean, who. I'm sure Pope is on a plane almost every other day.
Ryan Lemond
Yes. Like so he's the type of guy too that can drop everything, blink of an eye, throw some stuff in a backpack and go and not even think twice about it. And I think we've seen him do that with recruiting. And of course, it went at your daughter. She down. I'm sure she was scared by herself. Emergency surgery. He wants to go be with his baby girl. Shannon.
Shannon the Dude
No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I was taking a phone call there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But that explains, though, why. Why he was on that plane. I think it does. Was it France or something like that? He said he was on his way back from. I can't remember, but the colors.
Ryan Lemond
I can't remember where he said it was, but it could explain why Pope was on an overseas flight. He was on that one. Somehow, a connection or something to go see his. His daughter.
Lee K. Howard
Of course, every other college coach in America thinks, okay, now who's he recruiting overseas?
Ryan Lemond
Who's recruiting El Salvador?
Lee K. Howard
Exactly. Who is Pope after? I think that, you know, the college basketball game is becoming more and more international every day. So, you know, maybe he stopped by, saw his daughter, went over, checked out.
Ryan Lemond
A few locals while he's down there.
Lee K. Howard
You know, you know, might as well pick up game, check out the talents they got going in El Salvador. I can't imagine there's, you know, great recruits, but he's a good developmental guy.
Ryan Lemond
That's very true.
Lee K. Howard
He can develop a guy. Why not?
Ryan Lemond
859-280-2287. Who we got?
Shannon the Dude
Shannon Allen.
Ryan Lemond
Allen. Go ahead, Alan.
Caller
Hey, guys. Actually got to meet Lee K. This weekend at a tailgate, and his family and nice, nice people and really enjoy getting to talk to them, but I'm a big Steph McGowan fan on this team, and his running style, I really think we got to keep leaning into that to let Cutter kind of continue to develop. I love the way he pushes it down the field. I think it's going to make us win a big game this year, but I also think it's going to cause us to lose one due to turnovers. If we were somehow to get a big win, would you guys rather have Georgia on the road or Texas at home?
Ryan Lemond
Good phone call. You know, Texas maybe looks maybe a little beatable with Arch Manning struggling a little bit. I like my chances at home more than on the road at Georgia. What do you guys think?
Lee K. Howard
I mean, I think either win would be obviously program shifting in a way that. Because Georgia's had Kentucky's number. I think, though, just because the Texas game is at Kroger Field, I think I would prefer that one.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Lee K. Howard
Because you. You would give the fan base a chance to celebrate. And how long has it been Since Kentucky's had a chance to celebrate a home SEC win. I mean, it's been a while.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, there's three in their, three in their last three wins in their last 11 games or something. A home game, something like that. Some crazy stat.
Lee K. Howard
It's not good. And Texas has never played in Lexington, so this would be their introduction to Lexington. I, I either win would be awesome, but I think if there's some way that they could beat Texas at home in a couple of weeks, I think that would be the one that most Kentucky fans would like just because they would be there.
Ryan Lemond
Shannon, what do you think?
Shannon the Dude
I feel like that probably is the most winnable of the two. You win that we're rushing the field, we're pulling up the goal post, we're getting fined. You know what? But that. Yeah, what good. What better way to break that losing streak at home and SEC play than to beat a top 10 team? So if I had the choice, I would definitely take the Texas game at home.
Ryan Lemond
Texas fans are going to pack Kroger Field. It's Keeneland. They're going to come up, do the whole Keeneland football game weekend. It's Arch Manning. It's on your home field. Like I said, I think the correct stat is they've won three of their last 14 SEC home games. Are 3 and 11 in their last 14 SEC home games.
Lee K. Howard
That's not good.
Ryan Lemond
That's not good. So you're able to beat Texas at home. Absolutely. Blows the roof off the place.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah. Allen's good people. By the way. I enjoyed, enjoyed meeting him at the tailgate too.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. He said with your family, did you actually have a day off?
Lee K. Howard
No, I, because it was a night game. I went over there and we tailgated before the game and I went and worked.
Ryan Lemond
Then you went and worked the game. There we go. True life of a media superstar. 859-280-2287. That's our Clark's Pump phone number. We'll take a break, come back, go back to the first phone lines. Ryan Drew is off. Matt's off, Billy's off. It's Ryan Lee Kay and Shannon the dude. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Ryan Lemond
So when I'm sitting at the concert in November in Cincinnati with yoga girl and this song comes on, I got to get up and dance as hard as I can dance and sing as loud as I can sing. Shannon. I gotta act like I'm into it because this is the song. This is like the grand finale song.
Shannon the Dude
I'm sure get up and dance to this.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, I'm sure. He was such a heartthrob in the 70s. I'm sure there are going to be a bunch.
Shannon the Dude
That was 50 years ago, but okay.
Ryan Lemond
You don't think 60 year old women still remember what they felt like when they saw Sean Cassidy in the 70s?
Shannon the Dude
I mean, I guess I don't know. Oh yeah, that's your demo. You tell me.
Ryan Lemond
Do you even know who Sean Cassidy is?
Shannon the Dude
Yes, I've heard the name. I guess I know this song.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Shannon the Dude
So not really, but sort of know that he exists. Okay, I'm going to listen to this stuff.
Ryan Lemond
Here's your challenge, Shannon. This is his hit. Can you find another song by Sean Cassidy to play in the second hour?
Shannon the Dude
I'm gonna guess my answer is no. I can find another song to play, but will anybody know it? Probably not.
Ryan Lemond
He, I'm telling you, he was huge in like the early to mid-70s, has a teen heartthrob.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah. Shannon and I weren't around in the early to mid-70s.
Ryan Lemond
I was.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah, early 80s. That's where, that's where I came along.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Look, our bartender's looking at us like some crazy look like who are they talking about? What in the world are they talking. 859-280-2287 at the Clark's Pump Shop. Phone number. Before we go to the phone lines, Shane, I gotta ask Shannon this question. He's the Vanderbilt guy.
Shannon the Dude
What's up? I already know what you're gonna ask.
Ryan Lemond
I mean his like agent people were trying to petition the NCAA for a seventh season of eligibility. I mean it's not unheard of our quarterback. Zach Calzada is in his 70th season of eligibility.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah, but he hasn't played every year either.
Ryan Lemond
Right. So I guess Calzada then tweeted out a cap. Like, no cap like this is false. So what? Since you're the vandy authority, what's going on over there?
Shannon the Dude
I don't know exactly. I, I also don't know how we got to the point to where guys could play or be even in college football, basketball, whatever it may be, for seven years. Like, you know, you used to hear, of course, all the time about a fifth year senior. Then it went to six, Then the COVID thing happened and then years got mixed up and I, I mean we're past that now. Right. So, I mean, I don't even know how you can get years of playing. Has Diego Pavia played all those previous years? I'm not sure. Like that's the thing.
Ryan Lemond
He played, he played two years in a juco. They're trying to wipe those two years clean. One of them got wiped clean. They're trying to wipe the other one clean.
Shannon the Dude
Wipe one clean? Why wouldn't you wipe the other clean?
Ryan Lemond
Well, I guess it's not the, that's not the NCAA rule right now.
Lee K. Howard
I think, I think his argument was, and I believe he played at New Mexico Junior College.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Lee K. Howard
Or New Mexico. No, no, no. He played at New Mexico Military and Stuff Institute, which I, by the way, I grew up in New Mexico.
Ryan Lemond
You're a New Mexico guy.
Lee K. Howard
So, So I think what his argument is that those junior colleges are not under the jurisdiction of the ncaa, so they shouldn't count toward his NCAA years. Like that's, that's kind of like what.
Shannon the Dude
An antitrust law or something that's involved with this? I think, I'm not really sure.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah. So, but, but, but to Shannon's point, at some point you've got to move on. And maybe it's something with Tennessee, the state of Tennessee, because this, this feels like Zakai Ziegler.
Ryan Lemond
No kidding. He petitioned the NCAA for another year of eligibility and lost. Right.
Lee K. Howard
And the thing about it now is these guys are making so much money, right, that Pavia's probably looking at this going, I come back for a seventh.
Shannon the Dude
Year, get a couple mil.
Lee K. Howard
Yeah, I can bank. Compared to like, he's probably not a draftable correct quarterback just because of his size and such. But yeah, like I, I took four and a half years and my parents were looking at me sideways like, are you ever going to like, like, like he, we were planning on four what's, what's this next semester all about? And you know, seven. That's all. By that time he's got a doctorate and he's probably teaching classes.
Ryan Lemond
But you're right, he can make more money at Vandy than he could be in on the practice squad for the Buffalo Bills or something, you know.
Lee K. Howard
Oh yeah, yeah.
Shannon the Dude
Whatever he does after this, which I assume is not going to be, I mean I guess it could be pro football in a different, you know, maybe like arena football or something like that. You know, Jared did that for a while. Yeah, but you're not going to make, I don't think, I don't think those guys make that kind of money in that league, do they? So he's probably going to make a lot more money at Vandy for another year than he would at any other facet of life.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Lee K. Howard
And I think football is the sport that you're going to see more of this in because kind of like what Shannon, what is alluding to. There's not like there aren't a, there's not a minor league system of football. Some of these other little pop up leagues have come up like the XFL and some of those that yeah, guys can go play in it. But it's not a, a feeder system into the NFL like major league baseball.
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Lee K. Howard
Minor league system.
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Lee K. Howard
The NBA, G league feeds the NBA. So you can be a decent athlete in college and still find your way, work your way up into a pro league like the NBA or the mlb. If you're not one of those top guys, particularly a quarterback because there's only a handful of them in the NFL. If you're not one of those top guys then yeah, I could see why you want to be in college. Your entire.
Ryan Lemond
Make some money.
Lee K. Howard
Make some money and then you can go work, you know, do whatever you want to after that and you're financially set.
Ryan Lemond
859-280-2287. Who's our caller? Shannon.
Shannon the Dude
Let's go to Michael.
Ryan Lemond
Michael. Go ahead. Michael.
Caller
Hey guys, thanks for taking my call.
Ryan Lemond
Appreciate you calling.
Caller
I wanted to, yeah, I wanted to expand on the Mark Pope going overseas for his daughter. Yeah, it is what, what I read was on your website but where she. The doctor who was going to do this emergency surgery on his daughter was, he was a veteran doctor but he had not really remembered, hadn't done this surgery in so long. So Mark Pope coached this doctor through the surgery on his own daughter. That's the word on the street.
Ryan Lemond
Appreciate the phone call. I, I don't Know how much truth is to that. But he did go to med school. He did play operation with Jeff Goodman and Rob Doster yesterday and go through some of the medical procedures that he learned. He's back in med school. I don't know if I buy that story. He was coaching the doctor on an emergency appendectomy.
Lee K. Howard
I can't imagine that's true but I like to think of maybe Pope behind the doctor in the, in the, in the, in the room going like clapping.
Ryan Lemond
Come on, come, come on.
Lee K. Howard
Play three, play.
Ryan Lemond
You know, or if you're caliper, you're back there going go.
Lee K. Howard
Or floppy, floppy. Yeah, yeah. I can't imagine that's true but that sounds, that sounds like somebody could come up with a good AI picture of Mark Pope coaching Dr. In a, in a room.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. A lot of people on the aviation class action are telling me that there's no way he could be on a flight to Paris or from Paris and trying to go to El Salvador. It could have been a connecting flight. Yeah, that's what I'm saying, you know, connecting flight somewhere. Who knows? I don't know.
Shannon the Dude
Do you know El Salvador is on a map?
Ryan Lemond
It's down south. It's in the south. We're going to Mount Vernon tomorrow, Shannon.
Shannon the Dude
Yes, we are. That's not in Central America.
Ryan Lemond
It is not in Central America. It's like kind of south Central Kentucky almost.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, it's a couple of hours away from me and I think I'm gonna come down maybe later on tonight. I'll stay at a Holiday Inn Express.
Ryan Lemond
Nice.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Lee K. Howard
And yeah. And you have a new shirt to wear tomorrow.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, we all have bright orange shirts. It's the Christian Appalachian Project Hunger Walk. Tomorrow we're going to be down there. As they get that started in Mount Vernon, we'll be at the Community Trust bank on Main Street. Shannon and I are doing the pre show then we'll do KSR down there. So if you're down in the Mount Vernon area, Rock Castle county here we come. Tomorrow, the Christian Appalachian Project Hunger walk. We'll see you there. Alright, we'll take our break, come back. Our number two Kentucky Sports Radio.

“They did the podcast in the car while driving the two guys to the airport. If that’s not KSR, I don’t know what is.”
— Ryan Lemond (09:35)
“Make no mistake about it, this is Jalen Lowe’s team. He is the leader.”
— Jeff Goodman, as quoted by Ryan Lemond (14:56)
“If so, then we’ve got an NBA team on our hands.”
— Shannon the Dude, on the team “shooting 70% from three” in practice (17:41)

— Lee K. Howard, on Yellowvić (18:48)
“Immediately we leave here, we need to go get a cheeseburger.”
— Ryan Lemond, post-colonoscopy soundbite (30:20)
Hour 1 of this KSR episode delivers classic Kentucky Sports Radio flavor: a blend of nostalgia, unfiltered UK basketball scoops, listener interaction, and plenty of laughs. The inside details from basketball practice, channeled through the viral “car podcast,” hype up the optimism around Coach Pope’s new-look Cats—especially the backcourt depth, Jalen Lowe’s leadership, and surprise practice standouts like Cam Williams and Yellowvić. Even when the crew veer into offbeat or personal stories (like Ryan’s birthday playbook or legendary KSR hosting fails), their chemistry keeps things moving and thoroughly Kentucky.
Perfect for listeners who want...
The show heads into Hour 2 with the promise of more fan calls, breaking down team dynamics, and perhaps another Sean Cassidy hit (if Shannon can find one). For wing deals and wisdom, or just classic KSR absurdity, it’s business as usual at the bar.
