Welcome back to the second hour of KSR here live at Marion County Ham Days starts on the 26th through the 28th. This weekend voted a top 10 Kentucky event. Before we get more to a little Ham Days talk, Ryan Lemon, who's this segment brought to us by.
A
Well, thank you Drew. It's an honor and a pleasure to tell you that Clark Pump and Shop is the sponsor of this segment. Don't commit a party foul. Get tailgate ready at Clark's Puppet Shop. They have everything you need for your tailgate at home, watch party, whatever you're going to do. You know, all good mornings start at Clark's Puppet Shop where every cup of coffee is freshly brewed. Their coffee makers grind fresh beans and brew a fresh cup every time. So ditch the expensive coffee shops and stop at Clark's Pumping Shop. You know, most Clark's Pumping shops also have a drive through. That's what's good. You just get a drive through. You don't have to get out of your car to get your brain Chicken sandwich or chicken biscuits. Good. And a fresh cup of coffee. So they have Clark's Puppet Shop. They're everywhere. There are local folks giving back to the community, sponsoring local sports teams, nonprofits, and of course the blue and white at UK Shop from people who care about the bluegrass. Clark's Puppet Shop return, refresh, refuel.
B
Enthusiasm in that one. I did a little refueling with them this morning. Always like Clarks shout out Clark's I have a segment I want to do here. It's golf related because it is one of the best times of the year. The Ryder cup officially starts tomorrow, and it's. It's not lost on me that not everyone loves golf, including the people on this show, except Billy. Billy likes golf with me. He's going to help me, but I'm going to try to convince you all to like golf, at least for a weekend.
A
Okay.
B
You specifically, Shannon.
C
All right, let's carry.
B
The Ryder cup is no ordinary event. Do you know anything about it? Okay, stick with me. It's not just golf, though. This is where I think you might like it.
C
A.
B
It's Team USA versus the Europeans. So we got a little patriotism involved. They heckle you for that?
C
I love heckling.
B
Okay, So I know this is where. This is where I feel like we can get some. Okay. I know you're very big on. Why does it have to be quiet?
C
Yes.
B
At the Ryder cup, you can yell, you can boo, you can. Usa. Usa.
C
All right.
B
There's even a clip that just came out of yesterday's practice round where Coach O, the football coach, is at the front of the stands leading a USA chant while golf is being played like that. So do you are so far. Are you leaning in whatsoever to the rider?
C
I like it so far. Like what I'm hearing. Continue.
B
Well, there's been some big events.
C
Okay.
B
It's not just the crowd, the chanting and all that, which they encourage. They have a few things that I think you all could also appreciate. I'll start with one big Ryder cup moment that, Ryan, you might be able to relate to. In 2012 at Medina in Chicago, Rory McIlroy, one of the biggest golfers on the planet, representing Europe in a high stakes match. This only happens every two years. It's not quite the World cup, but it is a big deal that is not played every year. Ryan. Rory overslept his tee time. He thought they were on Easter time, they were on Central time. They got him a police escort to where he was putting his shoes on on the tee box and got there into the absolute last minute. Can you believe that in an event of this magnitude, it is possible to oversleep and barely get there?
A
You know, it happens to the best of us sometimes. We set that alarm clock wrong and wake up at the wrong time. So I can see how it happened to him. But he made it. That's all it matters. He made it golf that day, tried to represent his country. Did he win?
B
Actually, that match? He did win.
A
I was going to say.
B
I was going to bring that up to ask. Has Ryan Lemon overslept anything major daily. See where I'm not. I'm doing golf without doing golf here.
A
Well, yesterday afternoon I slept through the infinity seminar with iHeart.
C
You slept through a KSR pre show? I did at a Don Franklin and.
A
Left me hanging in Somerset?
B
Yep.
A
France. Shannon's in Somerset. It starts at 9 o'. Clock. I wake up at 8:20.
C
Anytime Ryan agrees to do the pre show, I just pretty much expect him to oversleep.
A
He texts me now like three or four times.
C
Here you go.
B
Are you up?
A
Are you ready to go?
B
So you and Rory have that in common?
A
Yes, absolutely. Yes.
B
Do you think the police escort's fair? Is it big enough that. Does he have to eat it and just.
A
No, I think it's fair.
C
Here's the thing. The next time I oversleep for, you know, an I Heart event or maybe, you know, just going into work, I think I should get a police escort. You didn't have a police escort coming into Don Franklin?
B
No.
C
You probably should have had one. That was fast.
A
There was a policeman chasing me all the way down I75 trying to get down there.
C
You were escorting him to die. That's right, yeah.
B
Also breaking up the code of golf. Shannon. In 1999, one of the most iconic Ryder cup moments ever, Justin Leonard made a 45 foot foot putt to to secure the biggest comeback in the 1772 year history of the Ryder Cup. But it was a big deal because the match wasn't over. A European still had to putt, but the American players, wives and some other people storm the green and completely broke all golf etiquette to celebrate a putt when the round wasn't over. Love it. Are you leaning into the rider couple?
C
Yeah, I think we should do this all the time. I think we should take the Ryder cup rules and apply it to golf universally.
A
Absolutely. Why don't they do that on a normal golf event? Why can't the fans cheer and heckle?
C
Always been my argument, like, you know, could you imagine like Patrick Mahomes going, oh, they're being too loud. I can't throw this football right now. Or in baseball, you know, a guy going, I can't hit. You guys are being too loud.
A
It's a gentleman game.
D
Yeah, well, to that point, the energy is just different in the Ryder Cup. Roy McElroy made a long putt and was screaming, yelling, Patrick Reed made a putt right after it. He went up to him and did the McKembe Mutumbo. No, no, no, not today.
A
Why don't they do that on a normal tour event?
B
See, Billy, I think. I think they're coming around.
C
See, we're talking about all these other sports having to evolve, that golf hasn't evolved at all. It's still, you know, you got to be quiet, and you can't, you know, yell out of somebody's backswing.
A
Yeah, you know what? That's right. They get ready to. They're addressing the ball, and they hear click, click, click, click. Somebody taking a camera B. And they blow up. Act like it's the worst thing that's ever happened to them. If that bothers you, somebody clicking their camera, then you don't deserve to be out there.
C
I'm with you, man. You don't deserve to be there. You tell them, Ryan. They should call them off.
B
This is about country. All bets are off in the R.
A
So why not celebrate and talk smack and have fun out there?
B
A few more moments, I think you all will like. 2008 Valhalla. The golfer named Boo Weekley. It's his one and only Ryder Cup. He's only been in it one time. He was phenomenal. I believe he went undefeated, including, at one point, he teed off and then rode his driver down the fairway like a bull, smacking the back of it. Now, is that a kind of golf you could get into?
C
Absolutely. Yeah. I feel like golfers are. They try to be too professional. They can't show any kind of personality. I like that.
B
Ryan Lemon, if you were golfing and hit a good shot, I can see you doing the boo weekly down the fairway.
A
I do it with my shirt off going down the fairway. My driver.
C
See, I like daily John Daly.
A
John Daly's got it. He's got it made.
C
Yeah.
A
Okay, so what is that event, and it's in Phoenix, where they throw their beer up in the air. Why don't they do that?
B
Not just played this spring. Doesn't look the same without the stands there. Looks like any normal par three, but that's. That's the closest thing to the Rider cup on the regular scale.
C
See, I like John Daly out there drinking a beer, smoking a cigar. That's how I would play golf.
D
The last Rider Cup, American caddy went after Rory McEloy in the parking lot after a round. They were doing a screaming match. One guy wouldn't wear a hat. That probably doesn't help our argument, Drew, but that was a big controversy.
C
Last see, like Shepler getting arrested, to me, is the most exciting thing to happen in golf in years. I Need my gobbers getting arrested and, like, all sorts of things.
D
Like, Sheffler was crying after losing last year, so he's got a big redemption.
A
So they should take a. A lesson from wrestling.
C
Yes.
A
Have the golfers cut a promo before they go out there to the Writers Cup.
C
Absolutely.
A
Yes.
B
One more Ryder cup story I want to share, and it's my favorite. You really need to see the video. Understand, this is radio, but I'm going to do my best to paint this picture. But in 2016, a guy named David Johnson, he's an insurance agent from North Dakota, he was heckling the Europeans during a practice round. There was a putt. There was like, a double breaker. The Europeans were like, this is an impossible putt. They're missing, they're missing, they're missing. He's just giving them the business. The Europeans call him out of the crowd and dare him to make it. They each bet him $400. And you're talking the biggest names in golf. Pull David Johnson, the insurance agent from the crowd, hand him a putter with everyone around chaining usa and he drains it. Yes.
A
I was hoping you were going to say that.
B
One try. That's one you'll definitely have to look up online. But the Europeans could not figure out the putt. He's yelling, you stink. Usa. Usa. And they say, come here, big boy. If you're so good, you do it. He throws his putter, both hands go in the air, and the crowd absolutely loses.
C
Well, there you go. Leave it to an American to show everybody else how to do it.
D
And this is a special tournament this year, Drew. I mean, it being in New York. The captain for the United States is Keegan Bradley, who went to St. John's I mean, was just a kid and grew up on that course. So, I mean, this is a really special one, at least for the Americans, and they need to win it.
B
There's also a KSR connection. This is Beth Page Black, where Matt shot by himself.
C
Yeah, maybe Matt should be out there.
B
There's a picture going around right now that are people getting to Beth Page for practice rounds and stuff.
C
And it literally.
B
It's a sign that says this course is only for highly skilled golfers. And that's kind of going around. But this is where Matt's iconic round with no witnesses occurred.
A
What he finished on that round, he.
D
Says 83 number changes.
B
I think 84 is what we settled on.
C
Sometimes you forget what details you make when you're making up stories, you know, sometimes you forget.
A
Well, come on. We know Matt is a very honest golfer that would never break the rules on the golf course.
C
Never, never pick up a putt short.
A
No, not. He used a foot wedge. No, I think I, I fully believe he shot an 83 on Beth Page Black.
B
And then, and then he made. To wrap up my, my Ryder cup talk. Because I'm very, very excited.
A
This has been a good segment.
B
Yeah, I had the, the dumb stuff no one wants. The breakdown of our matchups and things this year. I am a little worried the Europeans are going to win. However, I want to ask. Let's say you're representing the country. I don't know why any of us would be picked for a Ryder Cup.
A
Hey, Bill.
B
But in sports, what's the thing you think you could do with the country? Let's say a six foot putt, a free throw, maybe hit a curveball and play. Is country on the line? Country behind you? What's the one? Not like a whole round, but what's one thing you think you could do in one take? You're the insurance salesman from North Dakota that came out and made that putt.
A
Well, you know, my putting skills are gore. You know, you impressive.
B
I figured we're gonna, we're gonna throw you out on that one. Yeah, I think we're losing that war if you're representing our country.
A
But if you throw me a fastball, not a curveball, a fastball, I think at least I could hit it.
B
No.
C
Who, who's throwing the fastball?
A
Anybody?
C
Oh, please. Paul Skeens is throwing you a fastball and you think you can hit it?
A
I get, I get more than one try, right?
C
You get an at bat and it's.
A
Got to be a fastball. It can't be a curveball or a slider, just a fastball.
C
Three fastballs down the middle, you won't touch.
A
I'm gonna at least, at least get the bat on.
B
The entire United States is watching, Chase.
A
That's why I would not let my country down. These colors don't run.
C
They strike out, though against Paul Skeens.
A
I guarantee he might strike me out. But I'm, I'm gonna get a bat on the ball.
B
I like our eyes better with the putt. Shannon, what are you doing? Oh, gosh, we've thrown you in.
C
Okay. Any sport, any Olympic sport, even, or even.
B
It's not a sport. What do you think? If the whole country needs you to do it, you can pull it off.
C
You know, they would have the rowing and they got the one guy in the back that goes row Row. Yeah, I could do that row. That's the one thing I could do. Well, the coxman.
A
I think they call it the coxman.
C
Well, that's what they call me back in college, but no, I think I could do that.
A
What about the guy in curling that just sweeps the ice? They hit the. The curling thing.
C
You got to be able to ice skate though, right?
B
No, you're on foot.
A
No, you're on.
C
Oh, you're not on.
B
Billy, what are you doing with the.
D
Well, I could throw a hay bale if my country needs me.
C
That's not a. That's not a real event. That's a made up event.
D
Thank you.
B
Let's give Billy a little pop. There he is. He is the hay bell.
D
The greatest deleted scene in the Netflix show Wrestlers has to be me piping a drive down the middle for Matt's group when nobody in the group could get in the fairway. I was never been more nervous. I mean, the Netflix cameras are right there and I end up piping it. Had to sign the waiver. I think I'm gonna be on the dock.
A
Yeah.
D
Didn't make the cut. So send me out there on the Ryder Cup.
A
Drew.
D
I'll hit a drive down the middle.
B
Oh, we'll go alternate shot. Because I trust my. My putting. I would pick a putt here. I think I could do it. Okay, so you get us to the green, and I'll make it for America.
A
I love it.
B
I had a weird story at the Ryder cup in Louisville years ago. Me and my buddy, we got flags. We're gonna get them signed. And we started with the Europeans. You know, knock these out. Then we'll finish the day with the Americans. So we followed them around for nine holes. My. My flag is signed by Europe's entire team. We go to the back nine. And they announced the Americans quit after nine holes for the day. I didn't see a single American golfer. So at home, I have a flag sign with all the bad guys. But that was in Valhalla. It is. It is neat getting out there. It is a fun event that always has some magic.
D
Historically, Tiger woods never played well in this event.
A
So it's not just right, but Kenny Perry and John Holmes, J.B. holmes both played really well that one year when he was at Valhalla.
B
Justin Thomas can be Captain America. There's controversial putting him on the team two years ago, and he played well, but we got that going on this weekend. Billy, I'm sure you'll be dialed.
D
I'll be dialed in. They got killed last year in Europe. So there is like a redemption. USA needs to win this. I kind of like Drew though. Europe has more talent.
B
Big, big Oberg. Thank you all for letting me talk golf for a segment. We'll come back, do a little more Kentucky sports. Take your calls. Still got a lot of Ham Day to talk about. We finally planned our. We're not going to call it hog calling. We're going to rally the pigs.
A
Rally the pigs because you know, it.
B
Is nice of for Ham days to host us and they got a big trophy. Trophy. It's just the calling the hogs. That's what, that's what Cal does. We want to let Cal have that with his chicken people. We will rally the pigs. I think we'll do the final segment and did we A volunteer out of the crowd is going to teach us and then we'll all try our hand at it.
A
Johnny Rockers Dad, Mr. Elder, he's going to come up and tell us how to do it.
B
So we got that coming up. And we want to hear more from you all on the phone line. 859-280-2287. We'll be right back. From Lebanon. Welcome back. KSR. Drew Franklin, Ryan Lemon, Shannon the Dude, Billy Rutledge, Mario Maitland, a lot of people from Lebanon, including Johnny Elder, the rocker. We're happy to be here at Ham Days. It's a top 10 event in Kentucky. We've already sampled the country ham biscuits and.
A
Very good.
B
And Shannon, well, actually, let me get this ad read out of the way. I want you to talk about your history here. But first, real quickly, from our friends at UK fcu, there are some wild myths floating around about UK Credit union. Let's go on and bust them. Myth one, you've got to be part of UK to join. Bless your heart. That's such a myth. Myth two, joining as a whole ordeal. Come on. That one's just plain wrong. Myth busted. The truth is a lot of Kentuckians are missing out on great rates and real benefits. And you can join at one of seven local branches or online in just under three minutes whether you wear blue and white or not. Because at UK Credit Union, we're not just for some. We're for. We're for y' all like that.
C
Oh, y'.
B
All. All y' all reads yes. Member membership eligibility required federally insured by ncua. That's UK Federal Credit Union. Shannon Country Country Ham Days. Ham Days here in Marion County. This ain't your first rodeo.
C
Oh, no, no.
B
This is way back.
C
Oh, yeah. My grandparents were big fans of Ham Days here in Lebanon. So as a kid we would get up. I was telling Billy this on the pre show. We'd have to get up at like 5:30 in the morning and drive to Lebanon because we had to be the first people in line. My grandfather would not. He did not want to stand in line, so he wanted to be the first people there. And every year, probably from like, for me, I would say around 1987 through 2000, 13, 14 years, something like that. Straight every single ham day. We didn't miss it. Didn't matter. Rain or shine, we were there getting that country ham breakfast. And I had a biscuit from Cedarwood this morning. They also got a really good sausage, egg and cheese biscuit. Is that what you're. No, you're doing.
B
You got to do the ham.
C
But it's really good stuff. Always enjoy Ham Days. Like I said, Alice Bluegun played here a couple of years ago. Always a lot of fun. My dad was actually born in Lebanon, so I've got some. Some tie ins with Lebanon. I felt like.
A
Yeah, that's right.
B
So is Abraham Lincoln.
C
That's right.
B
You're wearing a Lebanon shirt.
C
I am, yeah. This from last year, year before.
B
Mario wears his like every other day. Mario loves some Lebanon. He knows the Epps family. Mario knows Marion County. Well. Ryan, what are some other big festivals around the state? We would love Ham Days, but you're an Owensboro guy. I've been in the barbecue festival.
A
Barbecue festival is a big, big fan of that one.
B
We were just at the Mountain Laurel Festival.
A
Festival. The chicken festival in London, I think is this weekend because I think they're debuting the movie, the documentary about the South Laurel basketball team. They're going to play it at noon. They're in downtown London. And then they've got the big World's largest frying pan. Have you seen that?
B
Not in person, but I've seen the pictures.
A
Yeah. The world's largest frying pan. They make all this chicken down there, so that's a big one too.
D
Did the Louisville Catholic picnics count? Because those are some of the most fun times I've had. Shan, you've been out there before. I mean.
C
Oh, yeah.
D
Tony and Dwight used to do their show every day for one.
C
And they always. They would do it, but they would do it with their shirts off. I never understood that. There's a picture of Tony, Dwight and you with your shirt off. I don't know. We don't need to do that. Ryan does that at some of our, you know, pep talks, but I don't think we need them to do the entire show with his shirt off.
D
All the beer drinking and gambling.
C
Yeah, but a lot of great, a lot of great festivals. This is one of my favorite ones in Kentucky. That happens every year and glad to be here. I was telling the guys I may come back on Saturday and just look around and you know, see some of the vendors that are here.
A
Hillbilly days. Oh, Daniel Boone festival down in Barville.
B
I've been to Hillarybly days.
A
Diprock down at Corbin.
B
There's a bunch of hillbilly days with Carl Towns. One time for his autograph signing. That was Matt's mentioned Ramel being down there. Yeah, you know, they, they usually get a couple UK basketball players there around it to meet everybody and have a good time.
C
Ryan, what do you think your pokey pig 5k time would be? First of all, what is a 5k? How many miles?
A
3.1 miles.
B
3.1.
C
How long do you think in. In the year 2025 of our Lord it would take Ryan Lemon to run three miles?
A
Okay, first of all, run is a stretch.
C
Okay.
A
I jogged, I'd be walking. So I'm saying I can in one hour. Give me one hour, I can make a 3.1 race. One hour.
C
Okay, so you're gonna walk 20 minutes a mile? You think you can walk 20 a 20 minute mile?
A
Yeah.
C
Okay.
B
I've been on the COVID of the Courier Journal for being in a 5K. Really? This little athlete right here that you're.
A
Looking at, what were you, 12?
B
No, I actually met my wife there as well. It was the color run. Are you all familiar with.
C
Oh yeah. They throw paint all over you.
B
We had a Lexington tin roof team to celebrate opening tin roof in Louisville. We did not go to bed the night before. And then we got on a bus and went all the way to Louisville. The party continued on the bus. We get to the color run. I am not my best self and I wasn't gonna run 5k anyway. So me and a friend, we start the race, we see a little cut through path and we jump till the end.
E
Nice.
B
We didn't cross first or anything. We weren't like still in the glory. We were still pretty far back. But then it hit us. We get back to the area where everyone's celebrating. We did it. And we are red and everyone else is rainbow. We didn't think that went through because you run through areas where they actually throw colors at you. Everyone comes back in just a smattering of purple, yellow, green, or. No, me and Corey just. Just cut through the red part. So that's my 1 5k at the color run.
C
Didn't think that one, though. You should have went up and gave somebody a big hug and just rub their colors all over you. So I just. You got busted.
B
I had a big American flag. That's the picture on, like, a pole, like, Hacksaw. Jim Duggan. So that. That was on the COVID I wanted to ask you about another Louisville festival.
C
Yeah.
B
I saw videos of Louder Than Life.
C
Yeah.
B
The mosh pit. I know people mosh at rock concerts, but that where they, like, separate and run at each other. Like the wall.
C
I think it's the wall.
B
Yeah. They're just running at each other.
C
Yeah. That's not something I partake in. When that stuff happens, I try to get out of the way. Usually I'm either way in the back or all the way up to the front, but I don't want to be anywhere in the. That's something they do where they separate, like you said. So imagine 60 to 70,000 people, they all separate, and they make this big aisle right down the middle. And then whoever's up on stage will say, all right, everybody go. And then they just run into each other like a. Like a really, I don't know, crazy version of Red Rover, you know, and they just. They mosh. But that's nothing that I want to do. I feel like you could break some bones easily doing something like that.
B
I've always heard of moshing and all that at concerts, but what they did. Normal or is that unique to Louisville and what. You have to sign a waiver. People were bloodied up.
D
Punching.
C
That's part of it. I mean, when you go into the pit, you have to expect that something like that's going to happen. I mean, even if you crowd surf, the way they've got it set up now, there's all concrete. So if somebody drops you on your head, you're going to be hitting concrete. That's just. It's just part of it. It's part of it. When you get into the mosh and you realize that there's a good chance you're going to get your head knocked off while you're in there.
A
Wow, you. You really make it sound appealing. I can't wait to go next year.
C
Well, I mean, for somebody old like, you should probably stay in the back and grab a lawn chair. Yeah.
B
Well, I'd just been at the first one. Absolute blast.
C
Much more laid back.
B
Yeah. And I Figured they'd be similar. But that video was wild. I wanted no part of it.
C
Yeah, yeah. It's on a different level. Louder than Life Is Bourbon and Beyond on steroids. But they just announced the numbers. Over450,000 people between the two. That broke a record for both. Both of those festivals. And $43 million brought in.
A
That's why they do it.
C
For the economic impact of Louisville.
A
That's why they do it right there.
D
So if you're in the mosh pit, you catch an elbow or a fist to the face. Is that just like.
C
You got to take part of it.
B
It you had to see.
C
Only the only rule of a mosh pit is if somebody gets knocked down, you pick them up. You don't allow them to just get trampled. That's the only rule.
A
Yeah.
C
Yeah.
B
Well, one person I would definitely want to be in a mosh pit with if I have to do it is Bob in Jamestown.
C
Oh, yeah.
B
There only some way I can talk to Bob and James.
A
Really? Yeah.
B
I can maybe even invite him to a mosh pit. Rick, do you know a way to get a hold of Bob and Jamestown?
A
Yeah. All I gotta do is push this button here and. You got him.
B
I'll hit the Bob button. Matt's not here. I'm Bob. You have the floor. I'm not cutting you off.
F
What do you say, guys? I was at that who concert in Cincinnati and I picked a few up. But anyway, I got a new shoulder on Tuesday. I'm down here on the deck. It's beautiful out here. I'd like to be up there eating some of that 10th country ham, but Eddie Brown is. He showed up. The turtle man. I know he's over there with his mother in Bradfordsville, but. Yeah, Busy with some of those garbage size cans. Alligator snappers.
B
Well, we might try to call him. We have his number. Do you have his number? Where? We could just double check mine, make sure it's right.
F
Hi, Eddie.
B
The trip.
F
Anyway, I put a shout out for Tiffany and Valerie over Good Samaritan Hospital. They took the best care of me Tuesday afternoon when I got that new left shoulder.
A
Let him get that arm.
B
I'm glad your shoulder surgery went well. I'll be honest. I was gonna let you say whatever you wanted. That was a pretty normal call with Matt gone. I was gonna let you say whatever, but guess we got to go to a break. Call back, Bob. Yeah, Matt's gone next week. Want to hear from you again. It's Drew, Ryan, Shannon and Billy. We'll Be right back at Ham Days in Marion County. This is not Matt Jones. Matt Jones is currently running with Hyenas in South Africa. This is Drew Franklin running with Hyenas here next to me, Lebanon at Ham Days. Couple segments left in the show. We've had so much fun so far. We're going to wrap it up with rallying the pigs in the next segment where Billy can try to become a two time Ham Days champion. But first we'll talk a little more ball. Shannon, who's this segment sponsor?
C

A
It's come down a little bit. Was it six and a half? I told you to bet the under yesterday. Reds, Pirates. I got it at seven and a half.
C
It was seven.
A
Seven. Yep. Go the under.
C
Yep.
B
Oh, you hit it. It was seven. Yeah. Well, congratulations. Tonight we got a little Thursday Night Football. Everyone should head to KS Bar to watch Cardinals Seahawks. You're going to be throwing away. Not throwing away, throwing out DraftKings stuff. Some fun. Stop by also, but I'm a little behind on life here lately so I got a few things to do.
A
Yeah, we've been. We got some free tickets to give away to the Eric Church concert tonight. So come on by. We'll play a little contest to try to give those tickets away.
C
Look at all these koozies. Nobody wanted the koozies.
B
We'll Start throwing those out.
C
Yeah, yeah, I'll take those with beads, too.
B
Ryan doesn't get to take the beads. I don't trust him.
C
We don't know what Ryan's gonna do with those beads.
A
Speaking of which, Ava's a glass text machine. I've been waiting to read this one.
B
Yeah, how about it?
A
And we're talking about Marissa having a crush on Nick Saban.
B
Yeah.
A
Billy's girlfriend. Fiance. This one is, well, just missed.
D
I just lost German on you.
A
Yeah, it said. Basically, it said, my wife has a crush on ryan and she's 30. Oh.
B
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
C
Somebody actually. Wife.
A
I gotta find it.
C
Yeah, yeah, you gotta find it.
B
Let me see that number.
C
You gotta find it. Doesn't exist.
A
I had it and then I don't know what I. Was that it?
B
Right?
C
There's one of those Matt Jones texts. You just made it up.
A
Oh, here it is. Ryan. Don't feel so bad. My wife has a crush on Ryan.
C
Oh, wow.
A
She's 30, by the way.
C
Oh, okay, okay, that's enough.
B
Don't you have a girlfriend?
A
She's working right now. She's in class right now.
B
All right, thanks for that addition. We're talking a little football. NFL tonight. Which reminds me, Billy, yesterday during COVID zero, I had my weekly Titans meltdown. Like I do. Brian Callahan is still unfortunately our head coach, but he handed off play calling duties. Big fan of that. I wish he'd hand off all duties, but Billy always during our show. Matt wants Billy to give one fun fact. And we're previewing Titans, Texans yesterday, and Billy told me something about my own favorite NFL team that I did not even know.
D
Your new play caller, the coach, Bo Hard agreed at the University of Tennessee.
B
I knew that. Which is fine. You know, we got a lot of Vols around the Titans. I deal with it all the time.
D
Only played one game and then quit the football team to join the tennis team.
B
So my new play call.
A
So now he's playing. Calling for the Titans.
C
Yeah.
B
Every time I say our floor couldn't get lower, I'm like, well, surely we've hit the bottom. Especially after the end of the first half. Last week we made a questionable trade, and now Billy is telling me that our new play caller quit football to play tennis. Guys, Tennessee. I'm just in a dark place with football right now. I need to win big. At least with Kentucky on Saturday, Titans probably aren't going to win a game. But Billy found a way to make it even worse with that fun fact yesterday.
A
That's your draft Kings safe bet. Just bet the Titans lose every game this year. There you go.
B
It's not much fun when you're lear.
C
That your coach they're going to fire mid season.
D
Right, Like Callahan can't be the coach.
C
At the end of the year.
A
Absolutely.
B
And if not, I will continue to complain about it. Another news topic that went viral today. Have you all seen Zion Williamson? He has not been eating country ham.
D
Oh, is he looking good?
B
You all get out your phone and look at Zion Williamson. Wow. You will not believe if he walked in right now wearing a Zion Williamson jersey, you would not believe he is Zion Williamson. He is so skinny. He's like bones now. He has a. He has a jaw. You know, he's always been kind of round, even when he was at his best. I don't know if he's on the Ozempic. Here, let me pull.
D
He's slimmed down. I can see his jawline a lot better.
B
Yeah, unrecognizable.
A
Oh, that's. No way that's him.
B
That is him.
A
Look, there he is right there. That he. Well, he needed to.
C
He just lost a little baby fat.
A
He needed to trim down if he was wanting to stay. He's even in the league for more than a week.
B
Like this evil twin goatee thing going on some. So my question is, wow. We had all given up on Zion.
A
Yeah, a little bit.
B
And I know he's a Duke guy. You know what, we have our thoughts. But he was supposed to be this big, spectacular, absolutely high flying player and he's had moments when he's been healthy. Weight been a big problem in New Orleans. Now that we see skinny Zion Ozempic. Zion is there. Will he be back? Is there more Zion life, I mean, that's down. That's got to be a hundred pounds.
A
I definitely feel like if he's dedicated himself that much to lose the weight, he's going to dedicate himself that way on the court. I think maybe he's in for a big season, like his best season by far.
C
I mean, yeah, he's still young. He didn't forget how to play basketball. He's in shape now and you know, he was decent when he wasn't in shape. So imagine how good he could be now that he is.
D
I don't know, this just feels like the bare minimum, right? I mean he was getting. He's getting paid millions of dollars to be the face of the franchise and he can't make weight. Like let's, let's see, let's see. I don't know.
B
Well, now he's getting made fun of for being too skinny. Including me doing it right now. But there's part of me, it's like, poor guy. First I'm too fat. I'll lose the weight you wanted me to lose. And now everyone's making fun of me on the Internet for being too skinny. But that was just a shocking development from the NBA Today media day camps and all that stuff coming out. Also, have you seen The Mike Trout 400th ball thing that happened earlier this week?
A
No, what happened?
B
This is for you baseball guys.
A
Yeah.
B
Mike Trout had his 400th career home run.
A
Big deal, Big milestone, big deal.
B
A fan, I guess the name Alberto. Fan catches it. You know, Trout needs the ball. Fan gives it back to him. He could probably get, you know, whatever he wanted.
A
Jersey, bats, hats.
B
He said, I just want to play catch for a few minutes. So Mike Trout came out and the two of them just played catch after the game, went their separate ways.
C
That's cool. I like that.
B
Okay, so I was gonna hit you with the weirder. Awesome. I know you guys might get a little greedy from time to time. Do you think he should have asked for more or is that just a nice wholesome moment where he and Trout threw the ball around a little bit?
A
I love it. That's awesome. That is a baseball moment that everybody will talk about now. Not being greedy, doesn't want tickets, doesn't want a jersey. Just wants to play catch with his hero. Just we know somebody looks up to who wouldn't want that as a baseball fan. So I think it's awesome, 100%.
C
I think it's great too. A lot of people would probably get a bunch of stuff signed and then probably that would end up in a sports card business and they would end up selling it to somebody and making money off of it. I think it's a really cool thing that he just said, let's just go play catch. Hopefully somebody get some really cool video and pictures of that so we can have that forever.
B
Trout ended up signing a few things. But the guy just asked to play catch. He didn't ask for anything.
D
That's a shocking answer from Shannon. I mean, if you're the wife of Alberto and he doesn't come back with a ball that you can put on eBay for $200,000. Like, are you just not livid? Like, what do you mean, play catch? I mean, he's a 40 year old man, isn't he? He's not some kid.
B
I will say I didn't expect.
C
Yeah.
B
To be in on this. Yeah. I thought Shannon was going to want a check and front row season tickets.
D
For the next two years.
C
Dude, now you're talking me into it.
A
The best sports scene in all of Hollywood is when Kevin Costner ask his dad, hey, dad, you want to have a catch right at the end of field of dreams.
C
There's something about playing catch, but Trout isn't his daddy.
A
But it doesn't make.
C
They're about the same.
A
That's his hero. That could be his hero. There's something about playing catch, whether it's your buddy, your hero, your dad, your kid, it's just special. I love it.
B
Even though he probably could have gotten a lot more.
A
There's no, you know, what's money. You know, what's, what's a couple hundred thousand dollars to get you out of debt.
C
I like that though. We start talking about money.
B
Well, I'm with Billy on the shocking answer there. Another one we mentioned. Tayshawn Prince and Rondo went to practice earlier this week. Week they've come out in clips, videos, behind the scenes, which is cool. But they were also inducted to the Kentucky Sports hall of Fame this week. Ryan, I know you cover both those guys. Tayshaan, especially when you were still in the biz on that end. He got some good Tayshawn and Rondo members. Excuse me, Cobb was the one. Yeah, sorry, calling it, but Prince and Cobb going in. And then also Rondo was joining Prince in practice earlier this week.
A
Kayshawn Prince was just off the court, a really quiet, shy guy. He was kind of hard to interview and talk to because not that was just his nature. He just was just kind of a quiet dude. But boy, he get him on the court. He just was just a beast. One of the best to ever play here. Rondo was hard to talk to. He was kind of difficult to deal with. I mean, I remember Allen Cutler went to him one time and asked him of five or six questions and every answer was just yes, no, no. Yeah. He just didn't want to talk that day.
B
And now Cobb, he's doing media. We see a little bit of him. He does a great job on sec. But to tie Rondo back into it, the video came out of what he was telling the team stuff and he kind of even admitted, you know, like not knowing how much the university would mean.
A
Yeah.
B
Until later in life because he just came back in May, got his degree. You know, his kids have connections here. So the Rondo you covered as a freshman has grown up and was Had a lot of good things to say about uk and he's still around all the time, I don't think. It's certainly not the last time we'll see Rondo being a part of a UK practice or talking to the guys.
A
I loved what Rondo said to the team. He came in and said, man, you got to appreciate what it means to wear that jersey. You may not appreciate till you get older like me, but once you get older, you realize what it means to put that jersey on. He goes, I played with the Lakers, I played with the Celtics. The best fans anywhere are right here at uk. I mean, Rondo really, I think, gave a really good talk to the team the other day.
B
Definitely. We talked about Kemp yesterday. JoJo Kemp joining us with a good time for the South Carolina game. You know, Randall Cobb going to the hall of Fame. He had a pretty good South Carolina game himself to catching the, one of the, one of the, the game winning pass in one of the bigger games that turned things around with that team.
A
Randall Cobb deserves a lot of credit for what happened with this program, the JoJo game, that South Carolina game. But Randall Cobb kind of like John Wall, made Kentucky basketball cool again. Randall Cobb kind of made Kentucky football cool again, you know, so we owe him a lot of gratitude.
B
And people forget Hardline who hit Cobb.
A
That's true.
B
He's on the staff right now as an analyst. I even forget that sometimes you look over and say, oh yeah, Mike Harlon is back wearing UK blue.
A
Mike Hartline senior season was as good as any quarterback we've had here in a long time. And people don't even think about it because of what was going on at the others at that time. He was great. And you've heard Stoops, you've heard Stoops talk about how good he's been with the quarterbacks, with Cutter, you know, trying to help him develop into the quarterback they want him to be.
D
Yeah, well, and the other player, Tayshawn, let's put his name and number in the rafters, right? I mean, perfect time after something like this.
B
We just found out we play North Carolina in Rupp at 9:30 at night. Let's just do it then.
A
Perfect time to do it. Representing, you know, remembering that at North Carolina game we hit five threes. That's the time to do it. Do it. It's time.
B
It's also time to get to our pig rally. We've, we've, we've, we've, we've gone over the news topics. We've had our fun. We've talked ham, but Billy didn't come here to talk. Billy came here to win. He's had a look in his eyes since we got to Marion county this morning. We're going to take a break and when we come back, I guess we're all going to try our hand. We're not. We're not calling dogs. That's what. That's what the Tyson people do down there in Fayetteville.
C
Are you agreeing to this? Yeah, I don't know if I've saw in the box to. To agree to this yet.
A
Okay, we're rallying the pigs.
B
Rallying the pigs has nothing to do with what they do at Arkansas. Billy just has this look at determination. We're gonna have a little help come up here to teach us how to do it. But that'll be right after this break as we wrap up this fun show in Marion County. This is ksr. We'll be right back. Welcome back, ksr. Rick playing the hits over there. Thank you. Rick always got that nice music to get us fired up. Sometimes I feel like I'm on hold or on an elevator, you know, just gets. You get your juices flowing, Rick, when.
A
Rick's playing the hits, for sure.
B
But thanks for producing. Rick's been fun. We got one more segment here at Ham Days sponsored by Lebanon Tourism and Johnny Rocker Law. We've even brought up part of the Johnny Rocker family to help us through this last segment.
A
Yeah. This is John Elder iii, the third. Johnny Rockers. John Elder the fourth. And you just said his son is John Elder the fifth.
E
That's correct. Jack. We call him Jack. That's right. Had too many johns. So we, we went to Jack on the youngest one.
B
Well, you came up here.
C
You.
B
You graciously volunteered to teach us how to make these noises. I hate saying, call the hogs. We're rallying the pigs. But we were talking to you off the air and you mentioned how much this has changed since the first.
E
Oh, yeah. The history Ham Days is amazing. You know, Ham days started in 1969. Okay, 1969 was the first ham days. It was a few local business owners that got together and decided, hey, how can we track people to the community? How we can let them know this jewel we have right here in central Kentucky, the heart of Kentucky, called Lebanon, Kentucky. So in 1969, it started. They served a total whopping total of about six country hams that first.
C
Six, Six.
E
Six country hams that first ham days. And for example, this weekend, as I was telling Drew this weekend we'll actually have well between 40, 50,000 people come in. So that's how much it's grown. I mean, it's amazing and we're glad to have them down here. It's amazing. The community comes together, supports everyone, the operation, a large volunteer, all basically volunteer basis. So it's great to have you guys down here in the KSR team as part of the kickoff to the country 20, 25 country ham days.
B
Do you work for the tourism board? I caught that. The heart of Kentucky. Because you all, you're like literally the heart when you look at the shape of Kentucky. Right? You're right. Yeah, I heard you work that in.
E
No. Johnny Rocker, my fine son, just made sure said dad, make sure you pump up Lebanon, Marion county and small, you.
A
Know, Johnny Rocker, small town compassion with big city results.
E
Thank you for correct me, Drew.
A
Thank you.
B
We got to get to the big moment. Billy's been waiting for this for a year. Billy, he refuses to defend his hey Belly championship so he can have that on Shannon forever. So the nice people here at Ham Days came up with the new contest. We're going to call it Rallying the Pigs. But Shannon, have you decided? I think we're all going to participate.
C
You guys go right ahead.
B
Shannon's going to sit this up.
E
Shannon, man up, cowboy up.
B
Shannon. Well, we're dead. We certainly. I'm going to do my best, but it's really. I think we're going to make it a Ryan vs Billy, head to head. I'm going to do it too. But this, we're just going to consider this the championship since there's only a few of us. But before we get started on ours, let me take that headset off a little bit. I don't want to go deaf. I'm going to hold it out here for you, but John is going to give us an example of the noise you're supposed to make when you're trying. Okay.
E
Yeah. I just want to say real quick, try to help Billy out because I'm a big fan of Billy.
B
Aren't we all?
E
Shannon is so quick. There are five keys to calling a hog, okay? You got to have a woo in there, you got to have a suey, you got to have a pig, you got to have a squeal and you got to have a grunt.
B
Okay? You got all five of those, that's fine. I just want to remind everyone that we do not like the Arkansas Razorbacks. We just love Marion county and whatever they want us to do, we're going to play along. I'm just going to kind of hold this out here a little bit and let you give us the good example.
C
All right.
E
This should be great.
B
Super. Wow. All right. Thank you, John. That was beautiful. That was beautiful. I hate Arkansas.
A
Right?
C
Put the headset on. You're next.
B
Yeah, but Billy.
C
Top that.
B
Billy, you want to win championships, you're a winner. You consider yourself the Tom Brady of ham days. If you're going to keep this dynasty going, we're going to do you versus Ryan. You all want to get out here in the front?
C
Yeah. Yeah.
B
Come on over here, Ryan, because Billy is defending champion, you are going to have to go first.
A
I'll go first.
B
We're a little tangled. And Ryan, as we did with him, please do not.
C
Don't hold that right there in front of us.
A
Cord right here.
B
Do not yell directly into the microphone.
A
Okay?
B
You did that earlier, and I think my ears are bleeding.
A
All right.
B
All right. So Ryan Lemon is up first. Before you go, Ryan, Shannon and I are going to predictions. This is Billy's event. Billy wants it more than anyone's ever wanted anything. Is there any way Ryan Lemon steals the ham Day crown?
C
I believe in Ryan. I think this is right up Ryan's alley. I feel like he has called a hog or two, probably in Otwell, Indiana, back in the days. So I think this is going to be Ryan's to take right here. Let's see what you got.
B
Ryan, you have the floor.
A
All right. This is what I used to call on the farm down in Otwell, Indiana.
C
See, that's gonna be tough to beat.
A
That's how you call the hall.
C
I think we should just give him.
B
The trophy right now. You don't you. This is Billy's event. I forgot to tell the crowd. When they're both done, we're gonna do a little be louder for each one so you can still cheer when they do it. But we'll have a final vote. Billy, we got to get moving. You're up next. Go on.
C
Put your hog in there, boy.
B
John.
D
John Calipari. John, Come on.
C
John. Come here.
B
John, come here.
A
I haven't seen him. Oh, wow.
B
God, I haven't seen him there at the end. Those are both very good.
E
What are we.
B
Very good. Shannon are definitely not doing it now after those two. All right, crowd, you're the ones deciding by show of noise. Get loud. Did you prefer Ryan Lemons hog call? Oh, man, I'm worried. But it's Billy. He's been thinking about this for 365 days he can't lose in Marion County. Let me hear who liked Billy better.
C
I think Ryan won. Give the trophy to Ryan. Ryan is the hog.
B
One more.
A
Ryan.
B
Ryan. Billy.
A
Oh, it's close.
C
I think it's close.
B
Okay.
C
Ryan. Yeah. Let me tell you real quick. Fall is officially here and that means it's time to get cozy. What better way to get cozy than with Cornbread Hemp? You can get their infused seltzers to celebrate game days. Sleep gummies for sleep and oils, topicals. All there for you, Cornbread Hemp. Use the promo code cozy. B
I love how they both went their own route. Kept Kentucky is the main thing.
C
Ryan's was really smart. Well, yours was good, Billy. The Ryan was really smart to use the cats. He was playing on their emotions.
B
That's right. We had so much fun. Tomorrow we're at Bywater Farms in Georgetown for more fun. But thank you, Lebanon.
C
You are the best.
B
I'm going to go eat another country ham biscuit. That's been fun. And KSR.
