Shannon T
Welcome to hour two of Kentucky sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Ryan Lemond
All right, welcome back. It is our number two Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan, Drew and Shannon. We had a lot of gloom and doom talking about UK football the first hour. So let's talk about some positive things this hour. Let's get back on the positive train.
Drew Franklin
Drew, There are a lot of fun.
Ryan Lemond
Topics from a lot of fun topics and the first one is we you just heard Matt Jones is not here, but he'll be here on Friday. Our remote is at Shady Rays in Louisville. That'll be Matt's big return. So come on out. It's always a good show when we come to the Shady Rays there at Oxmoor Mall, Matthews Mall, always forget the malls. Confused.
Drew Franklin
I'll have to double check that too because I also get them backwards.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, but that'll be Friday in Louisville at Shady Rays. Matt' to Kentucky and ksr. Speaking of Matt, his Cincinnati Reds somehow are in the playoffs. The summer of Ellie turned into the fall of LA has now turned into playoff Ellie. They lose yesterday, but the Mets also lost yesterday. So the Mets helped the grids get in the playoffs because they could not beat the Florida Marlins. The Reds play the Dodgers tomorrow night. Wednesday night. It's a best of three, Shannon. So if there's a game three, be Thursday night. And I can't believe we're talking about the Reds in the playoffs and Matt's.
Shannon T
Not going to be here to see any of it. That's the, that's the worst part about it. You know, he was talking about the summer of LA and Reds. You know, he gave up on him. I felt like before he left for South Africa, now they're in, but they're going to be out of the playoffs before he could even return. So think about that while Matt's been gone, they're going to make the playoffs and be out of the playoffs before Matt can get back on the radio Friday.
Drew Franklin
Yesterday it was about 1am in South Africa. Matt's in Kruger national park in a in A tent. Now I'm sure it was like glamping. I'm sure it's a nice tent. I don't think Matt went out there and put a tent up. But we're doing Cover Zero and he's whispering through Cover zero because there's other tents around him and they're literally in the middle of Kruger National Park. But I'm on, I'm doing the show with Matt. You know, we're got a little video. I can see him talking to him as the Reds made it. I think part of that will be in the podcast. But I can tell you he probably woke up some lions, some zebras and some fellow tourists. But that was his scenario when he learned that the Reds had clinched yesterday. It's about four or five o' clock here. I'd say maybe a little later, middle of the night for him. But I got to witness his live reaction as we did Cover Zero and he is very fired up as you can imagine.
Ryan Lemond
Well, we all know he left the country last year and the UK baseball team went to the College Baseball World Series. He leaves the country this year and the Cincinnati Reds are in the Major League Baseball playoffs for the first time. Well, they were in 2020, the COVID season, but back for the first time winning in the rightful way to get in since 2013 I think.
Drew Franklin
Hadn't won a series since 1995. I mean that's a long time since you want to play off series if you're a Reds fan. Matt did give me an assignment. He wanted me to pass along a message. Okay, obviously we're going to do the KS Bar special.
Ryan Lemond
Talk about it.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. You have the exact details though, from Monique.
Ryan Lemond
So the games, the Dodgers Reds Games start at 9 o' tomorrow night and Wednesday night. So we can't have a watch party. So we're going to have game day specials throughout the day, all day here tomorrow and Wednesday. So where do the Reds play? Drew, what's the name of their ballpark?
Drew Franklin
Great American Ballpark.
Ryan Lemond
Great American Ballpark. What do we have on our menu?
Drew Franklin
Great American Burger.
Ryan Lemond
The Great American Burger, 60 year old John Short, name for 60 year old John Short is going to be reduced price. Great American Burger all day tomorrow and Wednesday and Thursday if there was a Thursday. So it's a game day special, but there's more. Drew, if you come into this KS Bar and you're wearing Cincinnati Reds gear, a hat, a shirt, what you're doing.
Drew Franklin
Right now, I was going to call you out on that.
Ryan Lemond
I have a lemon red jersey that my son wore when he was 12 years old and it fits me.
Drew Franklin
I was going to ask you what size it was and now you're telling me you're wearing your 12 year old son's baseball jersey.
Ryan Lemond
This is about 10 years old when he was 12 or played for the Reds. Got his name on the back. So I brought it out today because you can wear your Reds gear, shirt, hat, hoodie pants, you get a free side of fries. Now you can't just come in and get a free side of fries, you got to order something. So free side of fries. When you order something, if you wear red's gear so you can come in, get a Great American burger, wear your red shirt, you get a discount on the burger and you get a free side of fries.
Drew Franklin
Well Matt wanted me to tell you that if it gets to Thursday, even though it's nine o', clock, that we're all meeting here and I guess he lands Thursday afternoon and is going to come straight here to watch the Ritz so you know, one game at a time.
Ryan Lemond
So if they can make it Thursday.
Drew Franklin
I think Matt is going to land from South Africa in Louisville, Lexington, Cincinnati, wherever it is. But it's going to come straight to KS Bar because he has missed the enthusiasm of the Reds playoff push and he wants to be a part of it. So maybe we will be watch partying Thursday night as he gets here and that'll be your first time seeing him. I've gotten to check up with him twice a week since he's been gone, but you'll get to get to hang with Matt if it's a game three.
Ryan Lemond
Shannon I saw the Dodgers are 5 and 1 over the Reds during the course of this past season though.
Shannon T
Yep. But it's a new season so anything can happen. But I don't know. I don't think the Reds have much of a chance. We'll see what happens. Meanwhile, if you're a Mets fan, Ryan, did you realize that August 1st the Mets had a 95% chance of making the postseason and completely crumbled. So can you imagine being a Mets fan today after not making the playoffs and they were leading the NL east for for a while and yes they were earlier in the season and then don't make the play.
Ryan Lemond
They were a lock. They were a lock and they just fell apart and said August and September.
Shannon T
And then the other part, I mean not to get away from the Reds talk but the other part of this is the fact that the guardians were down 15 and a half games to the the Tigers at one point in the season, they came back and won the division. And now they play each other in the first round on the AO side.
Ryan Lemond
There we go.
Shannon T
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
I just think back to that west coast swing where Matt's like, oh, it's over. Stupid Reds take my tickets. Ellie stinks. They all stink. So and so lives by a river. And then month later, he's trying to hurry back to watch. To watch him lesson and being impatient, being patient and believing in your team.
Ryan Lemond
Well, so Kentucky football fans, can they take note of this?
Drew Franklin
No. Absolutely no.
Shannon T
There's not two games.
Drew Franklin
Geez. Right? Don't get crazy.
Ryan Lemond
So look, since this is the segment of good news, Matt's coming back to be at the show on Friday. Reg in the playoffs. We got Great American Burger on special all day. Game day. The other good news, the KSR KSR parlay hit for the second time this season. Let's go. KSR parlay. So out of the first five weeks of the season, we hit for the second time. Which means if you played it, I'm.
Drew Franklin
Counting four since I wasn't here last week. So I'm saying four. Okay, two out of four. You all. What you did last week was that was you went rogue.
Ryan Lemond
I understand. Completely understand. But if you played both of them, you're pretty much covered for the rest of the season.
Drew Franklin
One of them was plus 750. The first one. That's a huge hit.
Ryan Lemond
It was a big hit.
Drew Franklin
And this weekend was plus 450. However, some people double dipped. If you listen to Friday's show, where's Mario? You back there, Mario, we love you. But on Friday show, we were having a hard time getting a pick that fit the format. Remember, we were trying to pick winners. You were going a little Oregon State plus 14 and a half. We let you do it anyway. But then we learned it's Friday night, which didn't fit the parlay. Give people time to bet it. But people who listen live bet both versions of the Mario parlay. They did the Kansas State that we eventually got to, and they also bet the Oregon State and that one hit, too. So, Mario, you could have double dipped on the Mario version of the KSR parlay. Unbelievable picking by you, Mario. We all heard the analysis that went into it. Incredible. Oh, no analysis. None at all. I just, I'm just going with my gut. What worked outright.
Ryan Lemond
We know much about when he picked Oregon State. We all kind of like, come on, man, what are you doing? You know, we're trying to win this thing here. We kind of downplayed it and they. They would have won the bet.
Drew Franklin
They were up in the fourth quarter as 14 and a half point underdogs. Y' all know I don't know anything about college football. I barely watch it. I just went with my gut. Well, so I think what he meant to say is, heck yeah. Two and oh. On to next week.
Ryan Lemond
KSR parlay. Well, Matt will be back to be in the parlay this week, so I.
Drew Franklin
Need the hot hand over here. Though Matt might have to earn his way back in.
Ryan Lemond
We'll let you be our Kentucky. Our Cincinnati Reds. KSR parlay. Pick.
Drew Franklin
Picker.
Ryan Lemond
All right. Get us a Reds parlay.
Drew Franklin
I'm down.
Ryan Lemond
All right. 859-280-2287. That's the Clark's Puppet Shop phone number. We'll go to the phone lines. A Vision Glass text. I got a bunch of texts when Dusty was on. Most of them are not positive. This is a positive segment.
Drew Franklin
It is hard to be positive.
Ryan Lemond
It is hard to be positive. So let's go talk about a couple other things. Ryder Cup. I actually watched the end of the Ryder Cup. Well, the United States made a big run. They all of a sudden they were dead in the water. And all of a sudden people were throwing beers in the air and Justin Thomas is throwing his putter everywhere. There ended up being exciting finish for a little while.
Drew Franklin
I'm proud that you watched it, you know. Was that last Thursday? I was trying to teach you and Shannon to like golf, if only for one weekend. So you got into it a little bit.
Ryan Lemond
I did.
Drew Franklin
Even though we were getting smoked.
Ryan Lemond
Had the split screen on, had an NFL game and then. But I got into it because they make United States made the big comeback. Who was the dude to hit the big putt before Justin Thomas hit his putt?
Drew Franklin
I'll be honest, I didn't believe in the team. I was watching football yesterday. I saw Thomas's putt. Bryson came back from down big.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, yeah.
Drew Franklin
Henley could have kept us alive. He blew a lead late. I don't know the exact putt you're talking. I know they were coming back and people were texting me like, oh, here come the Americans. They were just down so bad that I didn't have a lot of faith. Even though I guess mathematically it could have happened. Never really felt like they could do it. But to their credit, they made it.
Ryan Lemond
They did. They made it. Very entertaining.
Drew Franklin
Embarrassing weekend. I had a red zone Titans multi view going on, by the way. Just red zone with another game at the same time. Is Enough. That's enough of a headache. But I had the Ryder cup over to the side. I was trying to keep up, but just didn't have faith. Also, we embarrassed ourselves as a country.
Ryan Lemond
You said that we.
Drew Franklin
Can we talk about.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Please tell us those stories you heard.
Drew Franklin
I love the Ryder cup because we yell and we taunt and the players get into it and they taunt back. I feel like we. We were a little.
Ryan Lemond
Little much over the top.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Like somebody threw a drink and hit Rory's wife in the head. They were yelling things you shouldn't yell. Rory even backed off his ball one time and yelled, well, y' all shut the BLEEP up. Like I get. Usa. Usa. And the roars. Well, we. We didn't carry ourselves very appropriately up there. Up there in New York for the weekend. So we got. Not only did we get our butt whooped, we also. I think the fans embarrassed ourselves a little bit.
Ryan Lemond
Well, that's what Shannon wants on the golf course. He wants that kind of crazy wrestler mentality.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Shannon T
But honestly, I didn't watch any of it, so I can't really.
Ryan Lemond
But I think Shannon.
Shannon T
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
You would agree. We can't throw drinks and hit people's wives.
Shannon T
You can't be doing that as uncle. And he would say.
Drew Franklin
Also on that note, to go back to the game, Seth McGowan, can we bring up just hitting Lenora Sellers grandfather with a football? Of all the people, the elderly.
Ryan Lemond
Grandpa threw a fastball hard as he could, and I guess he was trying to hit the wall.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. And he issued a quick apology.
Ryan Lemond
He did win a little. Went a little high and hit Lenora Sellers grandfather right in the. Right in the chest, of all people.
Drew Franklin
And he felt terrible about it. He put out the immediate apology. There's also a DM where he replied to someone and he's admitting that he just feels awful that he did it. But, I mean.
Ryan Lemond
And things kind of went downhill from there.
Drew Franklin
People in that stadium.
Ryan Lemond
And we had Lenora Sellers grandpa in the end zone.
Drew Franklin
So not the best behavior. All the.
Ryan Lemond
That started the downfall there on this kind of went. They didn't score another touchdown the rest of the game. I couldn't believe that it couldn't find the end zone.
Drew Franklin
We had Mark Stoops trip over a chain.
Ryan Lemond
That's true. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
He fell down. I didn't even see the first drive because I couldn't get flipped over. I was trying to log into the app, and at one point, if anyone else was watching the ESPN app, it switched from Kentucky, South Carolina, to professional Pillow.
Ryan Lemond
It did professional pillow fighting.
Drew Franklin
So I'm losing my mind. We're up seven. Oh, and I'm trying to get my TV changed and I'm watching professional.
Ryan Lemond
Did you even know they had professional pillow fight in that moment?
Drew Franklin
I found out.
Ryan Lemond
I thought it was a commercial. I thought it was like some spoof commercial for some product and. No, that's real. They have professional pillow fighting.
Drew Franklin
I thought it went to a commercial because, you know, I'm on my computer. We have a lot to do during games. And it switched and I thought it was an infomercial. And I'm at home and Abby's like, are we just going to continue to watch professional pillow? I didn't even realize that.
Ryan Lemond
The same way.
Drew Franklin
There's a lot of chaotic things around.
Ryan Lemond
The Beat down too, because the Tennessee. Mississippi State game went into overtime when went late. So that's what kind of covered up the first drive for Kentucky had. I mean, Mississippi State people thought they were the worst team. The SEC they had. They should have beat Tennessee. So now they leapfrog Kentucky. I believe Kentucky now undisputed. I think the worst team in the sec.
Drew Franklin
Now one more fun viral stuff from the game. Tom Hart was just. I couldn't keep up. I'm sorry if that's a topic. Yeah, it is close to a break.
Ryan Lemond
Don't talk about it.
Drew Franklin
Since we were on it.
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Drew Franklin
I think I counted six or seven. I even texted him at one point to confirm one that I thought I heard and couldn't go back and find.
Ryan Lemond
I only heard three.
Drew Franklin
Much more than three.
Ryan Lemond
Okay. I heard him say something about being sucker punched.
Drew Franklin
The first one I heard he said something about pumping shop pretty early in the game. Okay, that's the one I had to get.
Ryan Lemond
I didn't even catch that one.
Drew Franklin
There was sucker punched when South Carolina went up 10, seven. He said something like, South Carolina up three. Biggins.
Ryan Lemond
Yes, biggins.
Drew Franklin
I heard that he said something about penguins and a safari.
Ryan Lemond
He said, you see a turd, it's like seeing a tortoise one day and then penguins the next day.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. And then at one point, let's just say maybe he was taking requests. Maybe, maybe, maybe. You got anything else?
Ryan Lemond
Maybe somebody texting him requests.
Drew Franklin
And I mentioned my. My guy Manny, who I've talked about in the last week, anytime there's a penalty or like a foul in basketball, he yells, you can't do that. So at least twice after a penalty flag, both times on Kentucky, unfortunately, you can't do that. You can't do that. For me, But Tom was. We were getting our butt kicked on the field, but Tom at least kept it entertaining with the ksarisms.
Ryan Lemond
That's why they just need to make it a prerogative. He needs to do every single Kentucky game. Every single one. Just let him do it because we love him. Doing it made it. Like I said, at least we're getting our butt kicked. At least he made it entertaining for us at times with his commentary.
Drew Franklin
Anybody else listen? They all fit in. It's not like he's going rogue and messing up the broadcast. It fits right in. You just, you know, if you know, you know, if you don't, you don't.
Shannon T
Will you tell Tom next time you talk to him that I'm still waiting for my iPad that I ordered from him off Twitter. I still haven't gotten that yet. I'm waiting for it.
Ryan Lemond
Is he back on X?
Shannon T
He's still on there, yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, my.
Shannon T
And he's been like a month now, so, yeah, we gotta get Tom back on Twitter.
Ryan Lemond
All right, we'll take our break. Come back if you got something you want to talk about. The Kentucky football game, Tom Hart, the Reds, Ryder Cup. We got a lot more little topics we need to get to. This is Kentucky sports Radio. Don't go away.

And this you're listening to right now is Bad Bunny Ryan, who was announced as the super bowl halftime performer. Are you a Bad Bunny fan I.
Ryan Lemond
Do not know anything bad bunny sing but I know every time Matt asks a question about downloads or itunes or Spotify KS bar trivia, bad bunny is always one of the answers. He's always listed. So he must be extremely popular.
Shannon T
Well, I think Taylor Swift had some interest in being the halftime performer, but she had a few demands. The NFL wasn't willing to play ball. So we ended up with bad bunny. That was announced last night during the the halftime of the Packers Cowboys game. Which you didn't stay up and watch.
Ryan Lemond
Which I heard the final score while I was in the shower this morning listening to the pre show. I had no idea.
Drew Franklin
More breaking pre show news.
Ryan Lemond
Breaking pre show news. I'm in the shower and there Billy and Shannon's talking about the 40 to 40 tie last night. The packers and the cowboys. Oh, I didn't score a guy before.
Drew Franklin
I learned about. Yeah, the more I learn about Ryan learning news from the pre show, the more I think you all need an Emmy for like best. Best news source.
Shannon T
That's right.
Drew Franklin
Not Emmy, whatever radio award is. But you are truly delivering news to people every morning.
Ryan Lemond
Well, at least during the commercial break. During the commercial break, Shannon delivered breaking news. He said it's not breaking news. I said it is breaking news. So go ahead and play it, Shannon.
Shannon T
Okay, if you say so. Here we go.
Ryan Lemond
I just wanted to hear it. Okay, what's your breaking news, Shannon?
Shannon T
Well, college game day is coming to Tuscaloosa for Alabama, Vanderbilt this Saturday. Can you believe that ESPN college game day will be coming not just Alabama but for Alabama, Vanderbilt. It's the first time since Vanderbilt. I think it's the first time since 1937 that both Vandy and Alabama have been ranked in the top 25 while playing each other. So first, you know what happened last year.
Drew Franklin
I like the breaking news here.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, yeah. You know what happened last year? They played each other in Nashville. Vandy pulled the big upset.
Shannon T
Yeah. Their fans carry the goal post out of the stadium all the way down to the. Was it. I don't know what river that is. They took it all the way down Broadway and dumped the goalpost into the river. So I think it's going to be a little bit different in Alabama, but you never know. You never know. Vandy's been playing really well.
Ryan Lemond
859-280-2287. We got a couple callers up so let's get to one of them. Shannon, who we got?
Shannon T
All right, let's go to Philip.
Ryan Lemond
Philip, go ahead, Phillip.
Caller
Hey, guys, thank you for taking My call. It's just heartbreaking witnessing this every year. Watching South Carolina outperformance. Some of my best memories as a young man was with my father. Remember watching the Stevie got loose and watching us be LSU back in the day and just, it's heartbreaking where the football program is now, especially like. So my father is, he's a very sick man. He's got advanced cancer. And he made the comment the other day, he said, you know, when something happens to me, when I die, I want you to see if you can get Mark Stoops to be one of the pallbearers at my funeral so he can let me down one last time.
Shannon T
But I'm glad he still has a sense of humor.
Caller
Yeah, absolutely. I wanted to share that with you guys and kind of get it all out there and appreciate y' all taking my call.
Ryan Lemond
Appreciate the phone call. These, the conversations about Stoops and the coaching staff and the buyout and making a change. It's not going to go away. It's something we're going to have to deal with, I think, the rest of the season because I don't think they're going to get any better as the season gets on.
Drew Franklin
No. And it's this, it's, it's stuff that we're like seeing the same problems over and over. That's what makes it so frustrating. I know Mitch and Stoops tried to call this a one year blip in the summer, but, you know, not winning a home SEC game in a couple years, that's. That's not a one year blip. Little things like being the most tenured coach in the SEC and watching players trip over themselves to try to get lined up a few weeks ago at home. Some of the end of the half stuff. Yeah, things like it's not like you're losing on a last second field goal and you were in it and we're this close and oh, this player didn't pan out in the portal, just missed at that position or oh, no, this injury, it's stuff that, it's like, how are we having these same conversations at this point?
Ryan Lemond
So Arkansas makes a move. They fire Sam Pittman and promote our old buddy Bobby Petrino, who is offensive coordinator. They promote him to interim head coach here in the middle of the year. What are your thoughts about that move Arkansas made? They went ahead and decided they're. We're not waiting around. We're gonna make the move right now. And you bring back a guy that you left in disgrace. 1. One other previous time In Arkansas.
Drew Franklin
A lot of people saw that news and sent it to me and probably emailed to Mitch like, see, it can be done. I know that was a big talking point when they, when Arkansas made that call over the weekend. My bigger takeaway on that is on the Petrino side at like we, we get Bobby 2.0, 2.0, or is it Bobby 2.2, 2.2.
Ryan Lemond
This is the second time he's been.
Drew Franklin
Back and done this, which is wild. And you know, Louisville was one thing, but now he's going back to the, to the motorcycle neck brace situation in.
Ryan Lemond
Arkansas left in shame.
Drew Franklin
I mean, they already welcomed back he was on the staff, but the fact that he's the head coach for a second time at a second stop, that's. That's looney.
Ryan Lemond
Shannon, what are your thoughts about it? Is, you know, Arkansas is not waiting around at the end of the year. They went ahead and make the move now.
Shannon T
Well, yeah, they had a little bit of a different situation. I mean, Sam Pittman's buyout I think was a little over $9 million. So what a fourth of what Mark Stoop's buyout is. So I think that had a lot to do with it. But if I'm Arkansas, I mean, you just gotta look and see what happened at Louisville with Bobby Petrino didn't work out either time really there. So it kind of feels desperate a little bit. I feel like Arkansas probably could have just played out the rest of the season and then, you know, got a better coach. But here they are with Petrino. We'll see if it works out for him. It makes us, you know, now really hate Arkansas because they got Petrino and Caliperi. So I feel like on football and basketball, they're now the most hateable team in the SEC.
Ryan Lemond
Agreed. Agree with those two guys. 859-280-2287 Spider man walking in now here at KS Bar and Grill.
Drew Franklin
Hey, Spider Man.
Ryan Lemond
What's up, Crutch? Who's next? Shannon?
Shannon T
Well, the truth is up next.
Ryan Lemond
The truth. Your Indiana Hoosiers truth are still beating.
Shannon T
People egg sucking dog.
Caller
Well, I got three. I got three questions I want y' all to answer. The first thing we got, Indiana got seven games left. Y' all really put them in the playoff. Then the second thing, what did y' all think about that number three from Kentucky throwing the water bottle, hitting the quarterback grandson. He seen it on a big, big TV and went off on. And the third thing, OBW is coming to Owensboro Sports Center November 1st, and I want to make a challenge to Gooseneck, Nick Coffey and Brian Lemons, I got me a partner, Scott Kramer. Bring it on and put your hair up. Brian Lemons.
Ryan Lemond
He wants your hair down.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Shannon T
You don't have any hair.
Ryan Lemond
Wow.
Shannon T
Well, you have some, I guess, but no, I don't.
Ryan Lemond
Truth. Trying to hit below the belt here with that.
Drew Franklin
So to hear from him.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Good to hear the truth, but I don't know if that is. Yeah. Go put your speed on and we'll talk to you. We'll take our break. Come back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make him pay.
Shannon T
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Ryan Lemond
Let me tell you about Stockton Mortgage. Drew, can I tell you my Stockton Mortgage?
Drew Franklin
Please do.
Ryan Lemond
I'd like to know, you know, cooler weather, warmer homes. I didn't come up with that, but they did. Stockton Mortgage helps you finance renovations, big or small. One loan, one closing. And you know, timing matters. In real estate, Stockton Mortgage is known for quick closings and smooth communications. That is 100% a fact. Smooth closings. Quit closing, smooth communications so you can move forward with confidence. So visit stockton.com nmls8259/al housing lender nmlsconsumeraccess.org do you want to give a shout out to some one of our buddies?
Drew Franklin
I do want to give a shout out. We're sitting here on the KS Bar patio and my guy, Steven Peak drives by. He's on his way to the Mark Stoops press conference. Yeah, obviously I see he's cutting corners here in Lexington using our parking lots.
Ryan Lemond
He's driving through the parking lot, didn't even wave.
Drew Franklin
I tried to wave at him, but you know, he was in the zone. He's got to get over there to record this big press conference coming up at noon. But it reminded me we owe Steven a congratulations.
Ryan Lemond
What for?
Drew Franklin
He recently got married to the love of his life, Jacqueline. Just a couple.
Ryan Lemond
I didn't even know they were engaged.
Drew Franklin
Yes, they were engaged. They did a small wedding in Louisville. He did an amazing video that he put out on his private social media. It's a little private, but it's like a love letter to her that he spent. I can't imagine how much time he put on into it. Everyone that follows KSR on YouTube knows what a good job Steven does with our videos, but want to congratulate him and Jacqueline for getting married recently.
Ryan Lemond
Congratulations. That's a good shout out to give on a Day. We need some good news, something to feel good about after the loss to South Carolina.
Drew Franklin
He works really hard for us, including like, we got a football podcast today. Shout out. He'll be on the back end of that. And as I said, Stoops, that's news on its own. We'll hear from Stoops at noon. The show will be over, but he's over there. Record that. We'll hear a little more about what he saw in the tape and any quarterback updates.
Ryan Lemond
859-280-2287 Shannon said lines are full, so let's get a couple calls up. Who we got, buddy?
Shannon T
Let's go to Brady.
Ryan Lemond
Brad. Go ahead, Brad.
Caller
Hey, guys. I just think it's crazy that everybody blames Stoop so much when obviously he can only do so much when we're not spending enough money to buy competitive athletes against the rest of the sec. I mean, if we're not going to put up money, if we're not going to pony up the money like he asked for a few years ago, everybody dogs him for his salary. But it's like if you're not going to go back, buy the players that you're now allowed to buy, you're not going to compete. I mean, you had the cachet from all these other schools for so long for how good they were traditionally, and now they've got more money they're spending. So it's like two, two fold against us to win. And if we're not going to put any money into football to get those players, we're never going to compete. I mean, it's just the way it is. And no matter who you have coaching, it doesn't matter who it is. If they don't have top quality players, especially at those skill positions, quarterback, defensive line, secondary, offensive line, I mean, we're just not going to be able to compete. And it doesn't sound like the, you know, athletic department cares enough to do that.
Ryan Lemond
I appreciate the phone call. Great point. And we're hearing that a lot. Do they have the horses in the stable? Can they get the horses in the stable to compete in the sec?
Drew Franklin
I mean, they can't compete with Alabama, lsu, Georgia. That's just never going to happen. But you can be better than losing every home game for two years, losing.
Ryan Lemond
To South Carolina four years in a row.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, you can be much better than this. The money. I'll hear you out. If you want to start talking about SEC championships and winning 10 games every year, I'll absolutely meet you there. But money has Nothing to do with the problems they have right now.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. And like you got enough horses to beat Vanderbilt your last two games at home.
Drew Franklin
And you know, Vandy has shown you can go out and get a quarterback and change everything. Pavia's been awesome.
Ryan Lemond
Yep.
Drew Franklin
But you know, yes. The landscape. You also have to have a coach that can go out and find the Pavias. You know, Brock Vandegrift retired last year. Zach Calzada, his story's not written yet, but there's already been a quarterback change. Part of that's injury. Not all on him before that, you know, Leary because he's on a Ravens practice squad right now. But even Leary didn't really work.
Ryan Lemond
Didn't work out here as well.
Drew Franklin
You've had plenty of opportunities and different coordinators to go out and find the program changers too at the quarterback spot. And so far not so good there either. Maybe Calzada gets another shot. Unlikely. Who knows, Maybe cutters the future. But we have year after year, outside of Levis, the quarterback play just hasn't been what it needs to be to compete. And you know, he's hand picking those guys.
Ryan Lemond
Let's get another call. Shannon, who we got?
Shannon T
Bubba.
Ryan Lemond
Bubba, Go ahead, Bubba.
Caller
Hey, thanks for taking my call. You know, we've been talking the same story for a bunch of years. I think it's time to realize and call it like it is, is that Kentucky's a basketball school. Their football program, if they can go 6 and 6 and get into a bowl game occasionally, that's great. But I think too that, you know, Mark stuff got us out of the gutter. I mean, he got us back up and did great, did a super job, you know, got us into some decent bowl games. But I think there's only a few guys out there, coach wise that could sustain several years at the same place because I. And you just, you just need change every so many years. It just, it's not working.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. And well, I appreciate Bubba. Yeah. Appreciate the phone call. Thank you very much. Because that brings up a point I'm hearing a lot now. This Mark Stoop's era is starting to feel eerily familiar to what John Calipari had his last couple years here where it just kind of to go stale, went south a little bit and it was time for a change in basketball. A lot of people are saying that same thing about football now.
Drew Franklin
Oh yeah, definitely. I see it just, you know, media stuff. Remember Cal before it was over, he had the summer where it's like he wouldn't do Anything, like it's even in Lexington. Then he finally did his mandatory press conference and he had that line, real GS, moving silence like lasagna. The Lil Wayne line. He's basically saying, I'm being quiet for a reason, not making headlines. Stoops did that same thing this spring, summer. And I know at one point he defend himself, saying, I'm doing just as many as I've done in the past. It's not the amount. It's like you're not saying anything. You can tell you're intentionally not trying to give anything to the media. I mean, there's. That, there's. The results are changing. I mean, it's definitely in line. I mentioned this earlier, too, though. Football will never have like an NCAA tournament where you can be a 2 seed and lose to 15. And it's just obvious. I mean, you're playing these SEC teams, right? And it's. There's not going to be a clear hard stop. We're just going to decide, all right, how many is too many losses in a row in the sec? Because there never will be the obvious. I cannot believe we lost to that team. Unless it's Tennessee Tech this year. That would be one of.
Ryan Lemond
That would be bad right now. You are. You are the worst team in the sec.
Drew Franklin
Yes. And it's. I don't think anyone's debating that. Mississippi State might have been in the conversation. They almost beat it.
Ryan Lemond
Almost be Tennessee. 859-280-2287. Let's get another one. Shannon, who we got?
Shannon T
Mike.
Ryan Lemond
Mike. Go ahead, Mike.
Caller
Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. Two quick questions. First off, is KSR going to come down to Auburn when Kentucky comes down to play?
Ryan Lemond
Nick Rouse, Adam Luckett, Stephen Peake, those guys will probably be there. The radio show will not be there.
Drew Franklin
No.
Caller
Second question, our offensive coordinators, Butch Hand and Liam Rich, all of these, all these coaches were successful before coming to Kentucky. The common denominator amongst all those guys is Mark Stoops. I mean, does he put some type of stranglehold on these guys to limit what they can do? Because it seems to happen every year. They hire new.
Ryan Lemond
All right.
Caller
They turn out to be a good, good hire that.
Ryan Lemond
Appreciate that. That was kind of a topic the last couple years until Hampden got here. And it seems like Hannon does have more control. We've had people say Stoops lets the guys call their own plays. Whether you believe it or not, people behind the scenes have said that he lets the guys call their own plays.
Drew Franklin
And he's even said it this season that he doesn't get involved. I know when they had the end of the first half meltdown a few weeks ago in his postgame press conference, he was like, I was just telling him to run anything. Just get out there. But. And maybe you're not in their ear saying every play, but you're overseeing the roster and the style of play and they know what they're trying to match. Like he went out and loaded up on the offensive line this year. That's a very expensive offensive line.
Ryan Lemond
It is. Very experienced. Very expensive.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. And then to get back to a run game. So maybe you're not in the coordinator's ear, but the coordinator knows what you're trying to do overall.
Ryan Lemond
Before we go to a break, I gotta ask you one other question. You know the name Sean Alexander?
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Boone County High School. Went to Alabama, went to the Seahawks, MVP of the league. He announced that him and his wife are expecting a baby. Do you know what number baby this is for Sean Alexander and his wife?
Drew Franklin
I did see this. It's in the teens. Was it 14?
Ryan Lemond
14. This is their 14th child. My good. Now he did. They did have one child that died, I think as an infant. Some health issues. But his. Sean Alexander and his wife are expecting their 14th child. I mean, he's got an entire basketball roster.
Drew Franklin
You're the only parent on this show. What's like. And you had, you know, three at one time running around. How do you even corral 14?
Ryan Lemond
You can't.
Drew Franklin
Like how. I mean, you obviously have to play a little zone with your wife here. Just even.
Ryan Lemond
I've had some friends who have like a bunch of kids and they separate them into groups. You got the bigs, the middles and the littles. Each big is assigned to a little. So you're responsible for the changing the diapers or feeding them or whatever. And the middles have to take care of themselves.
Drew Franklin
You're on your own.
Ryan Lemond
You're on your own middles.
Drew Franklin
Maybe you're helping one and you see chaos on the other side of the house. You just can't help. There's enough to figure it out.
Shannon T
So do you think I even think about every day like before the. Like when they all wake up like. Like your class you got in front of.
Ryan Lemond
Make sure you're not missing one somewhere. How do you know you take off and go on a family vacation? How you know you're not missing one? You forgot one back in the bathroom or something.
Drew Franklin
Kevin, now, he's. He's. I would assume Doing all right financially with his career. But I think about when you have a family that big, just a simple dinner through McDonald's or like, I mean, what you're spending cost you $200 to.
Ryan Lemond
Go through McDonald's drive thru.
Drew Franklin
No. What do you have? Like, do you just. Do you buy a church van, one of those big long vans to get people around?
Shannon T
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
There's a family in my neighborhood, they've got probably 10. They've got a big, huge passenger van that they haul their kids around in.
Drew Franklin
I can barely take care of myself. I can't imagine having 14 other tiny humans.
Ryan Lemond
I'm with you.
Drew Franklin
To rely on them.
Ryan Lemond
I'm with you.
Drew Franklin
Congratulations to the number four young, happy.
Ryan Lemond
Couple with their 14th child. All right.
Drew Franklin
Kentucky legend doesn't get talked about enough.
Ryan Lemond
Absolutely. One of the greatest running backs of our generation and he played right up the road at Boone County High School.
Drew Franklin
He was the MVP of the NFL.
Ryan Lemond
Yes. He was not just kind of good.
Drew Franklin
Won the MVP one.
Ryan Lemond
He was it went to Alabama and was there featured back for several years down there.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
So Shane, Bill Curry couldn't get him to come to Kentucky. We'll take our break. Come back. Our final segment. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

And of course you can just get the Great American Burger at a discount price and get your free fries if you come in wearing something. So a lot of Reds fans coming in. I think the next couple days I'm gonna do this.
Drew Franklin
On Thursday there is a game three. I got a I own a Reds hat and a Doug Flynn T shirt.
Ryan Lemond
Nice.
Drew Franklin
Well, when we had the KSR day, when I nailed the match game, I had to dress as a Red.
Ryan Lemond
Had your Doug Flynn shirt on.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. So Braves guy though, let's not get.
Ryan Lemond
It twisted before we go back to the phone lines. I Do need to. There's one more note we need to mention. We mentioned Sean Alexander from Northern Kentucky. Northern Kentucky basketball player Tay Kenny from Newport High School picks Kansas and they said his final three was what Kansas, Louisville and Arkansas and Arkansas. Kentucky wasn't even in the finals and I thought Kentucky was in good standing with him for a long time. But Tay Kenny who now plays for Overtime Elite was grew up in Newport Kentucky going to play at Kansas. He's, he's, he's been. I saw him in middle school at an eighth grade tournament. He was a seventh grader. He was the best player on the floor. Best player on the floor as a seventh grader.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Now he's considered one of the best point guards in the country. Really? My takeaway on this is what a whiff by Pat Kelsey. We heard all the whiff whiff whiff out of Louisville last last spring about Pope. Let me talk about their whiff because they were counting this as a win forever ago. Same with the the Caleb Wilson kid. They didn't get either. I mean but they get locked in. They talk their noise way too early in a recruitment and this is what happens. So whiff whiffety whiff whiff whiff. Louisville point guard you so calm down.
Ryan Lemond
That's true if they were point guard.
Drew Franklin
Let's talk about that while I was gone.
Ryan Lemond
By the way.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that was the dumbest comment ever. It was is Pat Kelsey. Has he forgotten that just last year in the last game Kentucky's point guard was perfect from the field with 31 points against your team.
Ryan Lemond
How about that?
Drew Franklin
It was literally a perfect basketball game as a point guard. So eat it Pat Kelsey. Whiff, whiffety whiffy whiff on take Henny.
Ryan Lemond
He is Drew Franklin and that's why he's the best.
Drew Franklin
I will say you can tell you recruited him too but you know we'd rather have a good luck to take Kenny. You watched him in middle school. He's from Northern Kentucky, want him to have a good career but as far as with the Cats they're in with a lot of other guys we might have a second year low. Hopefully he's a one and done low here but we'll see. But I don't think this impact impacts Kentucky too bad but Louisville was counting this as done for a while so.
Ryan Lemond
With and the people who think the shoe deals don't make a difference. Kansas is an Adidas school.
Drew Franklin
Yes, thank you for adding that.
Ryan Lemond
Guess what Overtime Elite is an Adidas.
Drew Franklin
School and look like you blame Nike on this One, you stayed in your own brand.
Ryan Lemond
That's correct. Whiff, whiff, whiffety whiff. Whiff.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, all the whiffs. Point guard, you. God, that was the dumbest comment.
Ryan Lemond
Who's up next? Shannon.
Drew Franklin
Point guard Ryan.
Ryan Lemond
Chucky Hepburn.
Drew Franklin
Okay, he was all right.
Ryan Lemond
How'd he do last year?
Drew Franklin
He was the second best point guard in the state.
Ryan Lemond
If second best point guard in the state. Yeah. Who we got you. Who'd you say was down, Kelsey?
Shannon T
Joe.
Ryan Lemond
Joe. Go ahead, Joe.
Caller
How you guys? How you guys doing?
Ryan Lemond
How are you, Joe? All right.
Caller
Surviving guys. Surviving. Hey, two comments. One of them's positive, I guess one sort of negative. But everybody needs to get off the fire Stoops train. It's not gonna happen. They just need to shut up, put their energy someplace else. And another thing with Cutter Bowley, this guy is going to be a quarterback. I mean Alabama and everybody and his brother wouldn't been recruited. They had if they'll remember back. Andre Woodson couldn't hang on to the ball when he first started playing.
Ryan Lemond
Yep.
Caller
Now look at what Andre Woodson done. You're just going to have to give some time. I say bring that fence a coordinator out of that booth down on the field. Get a Dusty Bonner to work with Cutter Bowley on his short 5 and 10 yard passes and have some fun this season.
Ryan Lemond
There we go. Appreciate the phone call. Could have had asked Dusty when he was here earlier if you want to help work on the short passing game. I think, I think there's still a lot of people that still believe in Cutter Bowley. Obviously he's got the talent. Like he said everybody wanted him, everybody was recruiting him. He just not his best game he had Saturday.
Drew Franklin
No, that's what I was saying earlier. Like I think fans are still behind him and want him to work out.
Ryan Lemond
I agree.
Drew Franklin
Local.
Ryan Lemond
I agree.
Drew Franklin
I mean when he committed we all want the homegrown quarterback to work out. You thought you had that with Drew Barker years ago but injuries held him back. Tolles had a pretty good run but it's always better when it's one of your own. Yeah, we want it to work and I think most people are in agreement that, you know, it was a tough spot. We can't grade a second year quarterback in his first road start like that. But at the same time it did not go well. I mean he could have very easily had more interceptions than he did. So it was, it was disappointing first look at him on the road. But most fans want this to work because it will, it will be A lot more fun moving forward if Boli is the option looking good than having to go back to portal shopping.
Ryan Lemond
Who's next? Shannon. Who we got?
Shannon T
Shannon.
Ryan Lemond
Shannon. Go ahead, Shannon.
Caller
This morning on Tom show, he made a reference to the Marlins playing WKRP theme song during the game last night. I thought that was a pretty good gig at the Marlins. But as far as the coaching staff goes, the uk I'm kind of curious why. Why Kentucky? We know we're placed on the food chain, especially in the SEC. Why don't they go to a productive D2 offensive coordinator and bring them in and try to get us going? Like the way they've given Pope an opportunity. You guys have a great day. Love the show.
Ryan Lemond
Appreciate the phone call. What do you think, Drew?
Drew Franklin
I mean, that's Dusty was saying that most first hour, like you got to do something to bring some new life. Like even said like you're not gonna out Georgia. Georgia. Georgia's always gonna have better players.
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Drew Franklin
So if you're just trying to match styles, you're always going to be playing from behind.
Ryan Lemond
That is. That's a good comparison. Like Kentucky's tried to be a mini Georgia way. They built their roster a lot of times and that.
Drew Franklin
And that's good to win a lot of games, especially if you're the better opponent. But you're not going to knock down that door and really get excited. Like Vandy went out and got. That wasn't even, I think Jerry Kill or Krill or Jerry Kill, I think is his name from New Mexico State had the Pavia connection. No one really knew who Pavia was for. Vandy goes and gets him. And sure, it's a bit of a gamble, but you see what happens when you go find that diamond in the rough. Yep, he's on fire. I thought we were going to beat Vandy this year. I thought he might take a step backwards. I mean, but they look so good. And if Vandy can do it, it's like, well, even if you are playing a little bit behind, it's been proven it can happen. It's just a matter of having a coach that can go out and find those right pieces.
Ryan Lemond
One more call, Shannon.
Shannon T
Who we got quickly, let's go to Brent.
Ryan Lemond
Brent, you got like 30 seconds.
Caller
All right, guys, listen, I just want to give a big shout out to Billy our sports with his expert picks on cover zero with Jackson dart running, touchdown and heck yeah. I'm just wondering is. Is. Is Kentucky's football in FT2 going to affect basketball in any way with the NI on the money and the revenue sharing and all that like you know, we need them to be.
Ryan Lemond
No, appreciate it. Yeah, appreciate the phone call. The money is always going to be there for Kentucky basketball. No need to worry about that. Kentucky basketball has the biggest budget of anybody else in the country. That won't be affected at all. So look tomorrow come by KS Bar and Grill, wear your Cincinnati Red stuff, get a free side of fry with a purchase as the Reds play the Dodgers tomorrow night at 9 o' clock and get you a great American burger to enjoy the game with. For tighten up for Drew tomorrow's Richie Farmer and Buck Stivers. How about that for a show? Goodbye.
