You could have shown up to game day with a basic seven layer dip, but you didn't. You called an audible and swapped the sour cream layer for Philadelphia Cream Cheese. Now words like creamy and delicious are flying around the room and your dip so good is getting more looks than a top fantasy whiteout. You don't follow a recipe, you philly it whenever you Philly like it. Philadelphia Cream Cheese if you plan to.

Welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday, September 4th. I met Jones here in Bowling Green, Kentucky at the Mint with DraftKings to get you ready for the first NFL game of the season tonight. Eagles and cowboys. We are located right off of Scottsville road near the mall. A draft king sportsbook. There's a tough topgolf swing suite. I didn't realize that. Horse racing, wagering, a circle winner, circle bar and much more. 500 Ways to Win here at the Mint in Bowling Green. Great crowd this morning on a terribly rainy day outside. I feel like every time we come, every time we come to Bowling Green, it pours rain, unfortunately. But we are here. You can give a shout out to Clark's pump and Shop phone line 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine, 772-774-5254. In this edition, sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office. If you'll call TJ he'll make them pay. Ryan. Great crowd this morning. We had some, had some. Folks unfortunately couldn't get it. I forgot that you have to be 21 to come to. To a gaming facility. But nevertheless, Kentucky fans everywhere and even in this part of the state, wherever, wherever you go.
Ryan
Blues there lot, lot of red. Usually you get over here in the topper land with Louisville not too far away. But the blue always shows up when we come to Bowling Green. Has every time we've been here.
Matt Jones
Leave the western Kentucky fans aside because I don't think that's mutually exclusive. What would you say it's Kentucky, Louisville here in Bowling Green. 9010. 9010. I would say that's right. Because, you know, who wants to be ultimately, I mean, Gus is here, one of our bosses and he's a Louisville fan and that's terrible. But besides him, I don't know why you would want to. Why you would want to do that.
Drew
He's got his arms up like, what, are you calling me out?
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, it is. It's a terrible decision. Just so you know, he actually works on the Louisville games. Boo. Boo.
Ryan
He was on the Louisville football post game show this weekend.
Matt Jones
I heard he's the mascot. No, I'm Just kidding. It was nice him to make sure we'd get situated that but glad to be in Bowling Green. I was trying to think of the times we've been here, Ryan. Right? We. We've been here. We were here last year. We were. What, what can you.
Drew
We were at the Orchard place with.
Ryan
Chaney's, Milk Barn, Dairy Barn, wherever.
Matt Jones
That's right. We've done. I feel like we did a restaurant here once. What? Yes, the equipment place. I like that.
Drew
Marcia knows everywhere we go.
Matt Jones
Listen, you'll like this. Marsha. I was in, you know, as. As with most at the time, 46 year old men. When I went to. When I went to Europe, my mom came and cleaned out my house. That's the, that's what most middle aged men do. And she was going through my room of junk and like helping me get rid of stuff. But one of the things we found which we did not get rid of is that very nice photo album you've given me of the tours we've taken sometimes over the years. And I went back and looked at all the places we've been. It's really amazing.
Ryan
Yeah. I've got one that Marsha made for me and includes a lot of our stops down in Nashville when she's been down there. So I was trying to think of it in Bowling Green. One of our early first shows we ever did was at a golf course here in Bowling Green and It was like 150 degrees.
Matt Jones
Oh yeah, that's right.
Ryan
It was like super hot. We were outside.
Matt Jones
I forgot about that. We were, we were at a sports bar at one point, I think downtown. So we've, we've been, we've been here quite a bit. I eat here a lot in my very. The, the grill. What's it, Montana? Is that right? I end up. And then there was a sports bar. Somebody took me to Double Dog. Double Dog, is that a place? Yeah, I was just there a few months ago. So you never know where you're going to end up in bowling. Greeks. Is Western good this year? Yes.
Drew
All right, well, new offense, new quarterback.
Matt Jones
We're good. Maverick. His name's Maverick.
Drew
Right?
Matt Jones
That's a good name for a quarterback. That is. All right, so 859-280-2287 a lot of stuff to get to. You got your first NFL game tonight, which we'll touch on. But I think two things I want to start with. First of all, it is amazing to me. You know, we had our first football game Saturday. We play Ole Miss this coming Saturday. There's a lot going on. We launched an NFL podcast yesterday. And everywhere I went yesterday, all anybody wanted to ask me was, okay, how's the traffic situation now after your community meeting? That's. It's amazing what people focus on. I walked out of my house. There were these two sweet ladies who I. They could not have been sweeter. And they were coming to the park and they turned on my road and they rolled down the window and they say, matt, where should we park? Where we won't upset you?
Ryan
How sweet is that? So what you tell them? Not in my driveway, I said.
Matt Jones
I showed them the place. By the time I got home later that day, they had put signs up that said, no parking on the other side of the road. Nevertheless, a bunch of vagrant criminals were still parking on that side of the road. We. But never. It's a good start. So that's getting better. But I'm glad they were so sweet. And one of them said that she listens every day. She even got a little saucy. Drew. She said, I go to bed with you every single night. That's what she said.
Drew
Wow.
Matt Jones
And I was like, I wondered who that was. But it was very sweet.
Drew
Well, at least your message is getting across, even if you are kind of sounds like you put some fear in people. They're having to ask if they're allowed to park there. Now people know now.
Matt Jones
Now they know.
Ryan
I did hear somebody about your parking situation. I was gonna bring this up. They. In a busy day like Saturday or Sunday, they can't get in there and toll cars away.
Matt Jones
I know because there's no place up at the meeting.
Ryan
No place to turn it around.
Matt Jones
The tow truck couldn't even fit back.
Ryan
Couldn't fit back in there to get them.
Matt Jones
It's, you know, that's why I'm saying arrest. That's the only. That's the only prison. Multiple felony arrest. And then I'll be. I'll be satisfied. Kentucky and Ole miss play Saturday, 3:30. We've talked a lot about it. Lane Kiffin was asked more about the game yesterday. He had three comments where I thought. Which I thought were interesting. And I thought Drew were all sort of passive aggressive, regular lame. Kiffin this. First of all, he compared Zach Calzada to Joe Flacco. He said he's been playing since he's been playing for 14 years. It was kind of making a hit. Like, should this guy still be playing football? And he said, but the thing about him is he won't beat you. Or, excuse me, he won't lose the game for you. We have to. I think he said we have to make him make plays. So I think that gives you a hint that they're going to say, hey, Zach, can you throw the ball downfield on us? We don't necessarily think you can.
Drew
Yeah. And I don't like when guys get digs on my team. But I'll admit I laughed at the Joe Flacco comment. He even said guys thrown for like 9,000 yards. Really leaning into how much football Calzada's played. But the reason he's going to make Calzada throw it deep is because, hate to say Calzada lost A and M the game there, but A and M was ranked 11th in Oxford and four, four or five years ago. And Calzada through two fourth quarter interceptions trying to make plays. So. So Kiffin has seen it happen and he's going to try to recreate that.
Ryan
And we really saw nothing from the Toledo game that gives you any confidence that Kentucky can do that. Go downfield and throw the ball downfield right now?
Matt Jones
Yeah, we'll see what they do. But he was, it was clear he kind of thought that he was given a hit, a little dig at Calzada being in college as long. He was asked about Kentucky's performance in the Toledo game and he said, I do not care. And it was interesting. I don't. I think he meant this as a compliment, but you can also take it. Not as a compliment, but I do think he meant it as a compliment. He said something to the effect of with a Mark Stoops team, you can never judge them based on what they did the week before, which honestly is probably true. I mean, his point was they got absolutely demolished by South Carolina last year and then went down to Ole Miss and won the game. And he said also they don't even necessarily play the same from one week to the other. They'll have one style one week and then a different style the next week. Now, I think he meant that as a compliment. Basically saying, don't read too much into the fact that the Toledo game didn't necessarily go great. But you could also see it to say, like with Mark, you kind of never know whether the team's going to show up or not.
Drew
Yeah, well, he of all people knows I think Ole Miss was like a 13 1/2 point favorite last year in that game you lose at home. Two years before that in Oxford, you're a big favorite. You know, you're used to counting the Kentucky game count as a win and if not for a little penalty, you've won two.
Matt Jones
And I would have won that one. Yeah.
Drew
Kiffin, of all coaches in the league knows not to sleep on Kentucky.
Ryan
You know, I can see why Kiffin says that, but I think all the other coaches in the SEC might be saying, we know exactly what Mark.
Matt Jones
He did say. He did say. Well, I think he meant you don't know what the effort's going to be from game. That's how I said. He did say, though they hit as hard as any team in the league. He said, and that is still the case this year. He was like, even when they don't play well, they hit as hard as any team in the league. And he said, our players have to know that.
Ryan
And they had to get back to that. I think they strayed away from that last year, the one, maybe the last two years used to. It was their mo. We're going to. We're going to be tough. We're going to be strong. We're going to be more physical than you are. Okay, get back to that type of football. Get back to that Mark Stoops type of football.
Matt Jones
And then he also said what we've sort of hinted at or thought about in the show. He said, he was explicit. We have prepared for this game all summer.
Ryan
Yep.
Matt Jones
He said we watched Kentucky film all summer. That game has stuck with us all summer to the returning players. We've brought this game back all summer. And he said we are more. His words were, we are more prepared for this game than we've been for a game in a long time. You know, Kiffin's really smart. You know, he. He may be whatever, but I respect people that are smart. When it comes to college coaches, I would put Lane Kiffin in like the top 10 of just raw intelligence. And so that makes me a little nervous if they spend all summer getting ready for it.
Drew
Yeah, you got a target from stealing the one last year that essentially ended their playoff hopes. This year they're not as much as considered a playoff. Consider as they were a year ago, but they're what, ranked 15th, 20th, something like that. And then their schedule this year is really back heavy. So if they can win this game, they have a little bit of a cushion. More non conference teams like another winnable SEC game. So they could really be looking at making the turn with an undefeated record if they can win this one and.
Matt Jones
Hang on for a few minutes. Yeah, they, I think they got a loaded. They should be five and oh, and then they. You're right. They play like three or four very difficult games to the end of the year. But if you're Ole Miss and you have any dreams of making the fight of the playoff and you cannot lose this game for a second year in a row, and if you're Lane Kiffin and you want to continue to get given bajillions of dollars for nil, like you got to beat Kentucky and you can't lose to him two years in a row, dude, we knew they've been.
Ryan
Waiting all summer for this rematch. That's what scares me to death about this game. They not only want to win, they want to embarrass Kentucky, they want to bury Kentucky. And he will. He'll just keep piling it on if he gets a chance.
Matt Jones
There were. There was. One of the SEC podcasts said there have been a couple of assistant coaches in sort of anonymous comments, say Lane Kiffin wants to use the exact words, you just did embarrass Kentucky on Saturday. Again. So. So, you know, I will say that if you're in the game in the fourth quarter, you have a chance. What is more likely? We're in the four. Let's not leave us out with. In the game in the fourth quarter where you have a chance, maybe a turnover here or there or embarrassed.
Drew
I think they're in it. That defense gave me a lot of hope last week.
Ryan
Yeah, that's.
Drew
That's what's giving me confidence this week. They have a new quarterback that they've been looking forward to see what they have for a while. He waited his turn behind Dart. They won like 70 to 1 last week, but he did throw two interceptions against the Georgia State team. So if they can create some pressure and maybe get him to have a couple more turnovers, throw a few more picks, then I think you're in it.
Ryan
You know, it's supposed to rain a lot Saturday morning, but it's supposed to quit by the afternoon.
Matt Jones
So that is the current weather. Right? It's like raining all night. Friday night, stop around pregame showtime. Right? Isn't that what the idea is?
Ryan
I hope it just continues to rain. I think just pouring out.
Matt Jones
We have a business that needs people there, just for the record, but go ahead.
Ryan
But I think on the field, you know, we're just going to be able to ground and pound it in some nasty weather. I think that plays to our favor and they can't throw it around everywhere.
Matt Jones
We would. I mean, I think we would prefer. If you're just talking about winning the game, you would prefer if not nasty weather. It Be slippery. I mean, like things to slow them down. Right.
Drew
If we're just talking about winning the game and not the experience. Kentucky probably wants a hurricane every Saturday to just slow it up. But this one, especially against Ole Miss, a team with some tempo, new quarterback, we would want the worst weather.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, we.
Drew
Our first shutout in forever last year was in a lightning delay, so we're good under the elements.
Matt Jones
Now. I might come on the post game show Saturday night with a mea culpa and say I was wrong. But I agree with you that I think they have a better chance of being in this game than getting just demolished because of our defense. I mean, ultimately our defense tends to keep us in games. Now, the counter to that is if you go back and look at the years that we've had decent teams, but we've been kind of embarrassed. It's playing teams like Ole Miss, like teams with tempo have always get. We've always actually played pretty well against the Georges of the world and the Alabama's like teams that pound you. It's teams like this that have always given us problems, but we did beat them last year.
Drew
So, yeah, they're going to have more speed. They're probably better on the outside, but I think Kentucky in the trenches, if they play anything like they did last week against Toledo, can carry it up a level to an SEC opponent. I mean, they were really getting after Toledo. If they can keep that up, Kentucky will be okay.
Ryan
I thought the defense was great against Toledo. They gave up that last touchdown at the end of the game with like what, two minutes left of kind of a meaningless touchdown up to that point. I thought the defense proved, man, they can go out and play as good as anybody in the sec. So I think the defense will keep them in a lot of these games this season.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think we're like, we don't give. I think a lot of people have not given the defense the credit for the performance because of that last touchdown. And I think that last, I'm not gonna say it, last touchdown was meaningless, but I think it was kind of meaningless because I think they were, you know, they were in prevent. I don't, you know, I don't love when they do that, but I, I wasn't as concerned about that as everybody else. 859-280-2287. Text machine. 772-774-5254. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Mint in Bowling Green. I just saw we had this guy here last year from DraftKings who. He's from London. I always like. I think it's a direct flight from London to Bowling Green.
Ryan
Is it really?
Matt Jones
You know, you, you. They land it right out here. And so he told me he was going to Kentucky Downs, which is their partner for racing this afternoon, which should be exciting.
Drew
He should go to the our London if he wants something exciting.
Matt Jones
That's true. Yeah, you can check. That's exactly right. But that's very, very nice of him to. To come down. If you want good food and entertainment, the Winner's Circle bar features the best cocktails and drinks for a night out in Bowling Green. Right here. And with all these TVs, great place to watch the games. UK and the NFL tonight. You can make your bets here. One person writes. Matt, the best Indian restaurant in the state is in Bowling Green. India oven. I've actually heard that. I don't know how many people. Have you all eaten there? I don't know how many people. Not everybody likes Indian food. I do. The one dude, the kid that sits in his car and does the TikTok videos. What's his name? Luke. Luke, yeah. He seems like such a nice guy. He. He reviewed that and he, he was like, I've never had India food. I don't know what this is going to be. And he went to the India oven. I was like, you know what? I'm gonna have to do that sometime. I've never thought of that, but I will. Well, you don't like Indian food, right?
Ryan
You took us to a place in Seattle, though. I ate it for the first time. You ordered for me?
Matt Jones
Yeah. I just got you chicken. What is it? The thing that's just chicken and rice. I mean, the most basic thing I could.
Ryan
Which is perfect for me. Mr. Basic. Billy Basic. I like it.
Matt Jones
That is true for you. You don't have the most sophisticated in the world.
Ryan
Yeah, I like Subway.
Drew
It can be tough eating with Shannon, Ryan and Mario.
Matt Jones
That is true. She and Ryan and Mario are nice people, but they. I mean, they have the worst food choices collectively.
Ryan
We were in Bowling Green and you let Shannon pick any restaurant in this town to go to lunch one day.
Matt Jones
What did he pick?
Ryan
Fazoli's.
Matt Jones
He picked Fazoli. That's exactly right. He picked Fazoli's. And that's the way it goes. The college. I wanted to note this morning some breaking news. I got. I Got Mario would say they called me an unk this morning on Twitter because college football, the college basketball video game. Okay. They were, you know, there were announcements EA Sports were going to do it. Well, it turns out a lot of colleges said, we don't want to do it with EA Sports. We want to do it with 2K. And I didn't. And I've heard of both, but they're different things. And I guess now ES Sport, EA Sports is abandoning the college basketball thing. And I said, well, this is awful, EA Sports, we're not going to get it. And then a bunch of people are like, listen, old man, 2k is better anyway. Is 2k better? It depends. Well, either way, it's going to now be at least four or five years before you get the college basketball video game, unfortunately. But apparently UK was one of the schools. Schools. There were schools holding out saying we want a deal from this other one, UK being one of them. And you can't really do the basketball video game without UK, Duke, etc. So.
Drew
Yeah. And some schools have been signed to 2k for a few years. They already have colleges on their ea. They made good basketball games when I was a kid. I think the last good one was in like 95. But 2k has been dominating the basketball. So this delay stinks. But it'll be better for the game that 2K is making it.
Matt Jones
Do you have an opinion on 2K versus EA Sports?
Ryan
I have zero opinion. I didn't think you would, but the one time Mario got actually a little emotional on the trip down here this morning when he saw that story that 2K was going to do instead of EA Sports, that kind of got him going a little bit.
Matt Jones
Well, I hope they at least do one because I mean, I, I think it's great for the sport. I think, you know, obviously people will play it. I'd like to have it. Even though I don't really play, I'll buy it. Like I did that one thing. What was the one. What was the video game?
Drew
Redemption.
Matt Jones
Red Dead Redemption. I played it one time and I couldn't get on my horse and I just stopp.
Drew
The horse is a big part of that game.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but they should just do it automatically. Why did they make it so hard for me to get on the horse? And I just, I couldn't do it. So I, I moved on. 859-280-2287 who's up next?
Ryan
Adam is.
Matt Jones
I even left, by the way, my PlayStation and my ex girlfriend's apartment in New York. I Don't even have it anymore. I think I used it twice. But go ahead.
Ryan
Adam is up first.
Matt Jones
Adam. Go ahead, Adam. What's up guys?
Caller
A Indian oven. Yes. Being a former bowl green resident, that will not let you down. You gotta try that out.
Matt Jones
I like it. Well, I will try it sometime.
Caller
What going into the Ole Miss game are y' all the Saturday move the.
Matt Jones
Needle for you at all? No.
Caller
As far as you know, didn't change.
Matt Jones
My opinion one way or the other. I'm not any more optimistic or any more pessimistic about UK football based on Saturday. Literally they performed exactly as I thought they would. I thought we would win. I thought we would win by like one touchdown. I thought it would be an ugly game. And it happened. So for me and you guys can jump in for me, Ryan, it's all about this Saturday. If they. I don't. They don't have to win this Saturday for me still to be interested and excited about the season. But if they get their ass handed to them and we all know what that's like. I don't mean just. I don't even mean like two touchdowns. I mean if we're not competitive, then I'm like, oh, that's kind of where I am for this week.
Ryan
I'm kind of with you. We all agree the defense, I think it's going to be able to keep you in the ball game. I think the defense can play with and slow down Ole Miss our offense. I think we're still looking for some answers. You know what they were didn't have a passing game at all. They're going to have to to compete in the sec. So I think we'll find out pretty early how things are going to shape out in that game. Yeah.
Drew
The first game didn't change my opinion too much. But I'll admit to being pretty disappointed in 80 yards passing and it being 10 points through three quarters and you needed the interception.
Matt Jones
But you. Okay. But you had to be positive about the defense.
Drew
Yeah. To balance it out. As disappointed I was in the offense and the questions the defense, I was.
Matt Jones
Kind of like, whoa.
Ryan
Yeah.
Drew
So I think they're going to be able to keep teams in it to. To cover some of the offense concerns.
Matt Jones
The thing just people have to remember about this game, the reason this game Saturday I think is so important for the fans and just overall moment is next week you play an Eastern Michigan team that is not good. So I don't really know that next week is going to change at all. Then we have a bye week. Right. Then we go to South Carolina and Georgia back to back. I mean we go to like two teams that are right now ranked in the top 12. So then I think we play Texas.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So this games that we really have a shot to win come at the end of the schedule. We are used to as a fan base having the games we could win being at the beginning of the schedule. So I just think, I just worry if we don't give some sign of life in these early games, the moment October 15th hits and we play Purdue October 25th in basketball. I mean we know where the attention of this fan base will go if that football team. I mean that's just what's going to happen.
Drew
I think you have to beat Ole Miss or South Carolina. You can't have zero SEC wins going into Georgia, Texas, Tennessee. You got to win either Saturday or at South Carolina.
Matt Jones
I mean you could just remember you.
Drew
Want to surprise me with you're going.
Matt Jones
You'Re playing South Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Texas. Four teams that like legitimately think they're going to the playoffs in your first four SEC games. Now you do get Tennessee, Florida, Vandy and Auburn at the back end, but you're playing these powerhouses at the front end and that makes it tough. 859-280-2287. We'll talk a little basketball when we return here at the Mint and Bowling Green. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back Tuggy Sports Radio here at the KS Bar and Grill. 859-280-2287. If you are in Lexington tonight, it is the NFL kickoff. Let me tell you what they're doing, what we're doing at KS Bar. First of all, I, you know, I don't know, I don't drink, so I don't really know what these prices, but people tell me this is good. Bucket of beer for 12. Apparently that's good.
Ryan
Oh, that is really good. Yes.
Matt Jones
Then we're having three dollar Mark Mark Stoops drinks like Mark. Never mind. The point is it's a margarita and it's $3 and then there's like blueberry lemonade $3. It's sponsored by Cornbread Hemp, by the way. They're also giving away a two that so they cannot give the new hemp seltzers. Right. But they still want to be able to give something away. So someone that watches the game tonight, KSBAR will get $250 gift card to liquor bar which they would like you to use on those seltzers. But in theory you can use them on whatever you want. So they just told me that this morning and we hadn't literally done an ad. So I was kind of busy. I said, mario, would you like to do an ad? Mario did his first ad this morning on social media. He's editing right now. Mario's never done an ad. Mario's never did listen.
Ryan
Oh, he killed it.
Matt Jones
He's talking.
Ryan
He killed it.
Matt Jones
He keeps coming. He kept. Came up to me and was like, I killed it. Which he's not usually like that. Usually he's a little self conscious. I'm gonna, I'm gonna judge this ad. We'll see how good it is. But watch his ad on live when he posted. He's doing. He did an ad today for the gift card. So that's if you're in Lexington and if you're here in Bowling Green, come watch it here at the Mint. At the Mint. Part of the draft King sports book here in in Bowling Green. 859-280-2287. I'm gonna go the phones. Let's talk basketball for just a second though. Mark Story at the Hair Leader did a story where he basically was like he said the storyline for preseason for Kentucky basketball is who is the fifth starter. He was taking it as a given that when the season starts four people were going to start. Jalen Lowe, Otega O way he says Muhammad Diabate he's hearing is a given to start, which was not necessarily what I was hearing. But let me just say that. Let's just say for purposes of argument he's correct. And he said Garrison start at the beginning of the year, maybe molding into acquaintance after his injury is done. So let's just assume he's right about that. He then said he think there's five people who could take that third spot role. Basically it could be Jasper Johnson, it could be Denzel Aberdeen, it could be Colin Chandler, it could be Cam Williams. And he even said he thought it could be yellow Vic and you could play Diabate at the 3. You'd be going uber big if you did that. But not crazy considering all those guys can shoot. Do me a favor, Drew. Those are the five contenders. Rank the order 1 to 5 likelihood of starting.
Drew
I'll start. I completely agree with Mark on the other four and I've had the same question about two all summer. Eileen Aberdeen first just because experience and he has a ring on his finger.
Matt Jones
So Aberdeen.
Drew
What that's not getting any. The preseason buzz not knowing how practice is going. That's just based on his experience by the way.
Matt Jones
And if that ends up being your team, you're starting like four of the five players are seniors and you're not starting any freshman, which that's got to be. Is that the first time we will have ever done that?
Ryan
Maybe when the last time we did.
Matt Jones
We have a freshman.
Drew
We started freshman last year out here.
Matt Jones
I guess we didn't.
Drew
Travis slid in eventually, but.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but yeah. So we would be two straight years of no freshman, but anyway. So you would say, but.
Drew
I mean, I say that, but I have Jasper Johnson and Colin Chandler like a fraction beneath him on the list.
Matt Jones
Who's number two? Chandler. You? Chandler over John?
Drew
Yeah. Johnson will eventually take minutes, but just right away being, you know, right out of high school, the games changed.
Matt Jones
I think Chandler 2, Johnson 3.
Drew
And then I'll go Cam Williams and.
Matt Jones
Then yellow Vic Yard. Okay. What about you, by the way? The only reason Noah's not on the list is positions. I think he's like. He's probably the backup for no matter who ends up as the starter. That's probably what I think Mark was thinking.
Ryan
So. You know, I've said this before. I think it may be Aberdeen to start, but I think it's yellow. Vich, by the time we get going, I think he'll end up being a starter. I think he's a guy that's going to do his at. He's so big, he can play the four the way Pope wants to play the four, stand in a corner and shoot. I think he's the guy. So I would go yellow one, yellow Mitch one. Aberdeen.
Matt Jones
So you think he would go diabate at the three, Garrison at the four, yellow bitch at the five.
Ryan
I do, yeah. I think he wants that height and that length and that guy, that shooter in the corner.
Matt Jones
I cannot believe that's who you pick, but go ahead.
Ryan
Aberdeen 2. And then, yeah, Chandler, Williams and Johnson beat 3, 4, and 5 in some order. You got Jasper fifth in some order. I probably need an order.
Matt Jones
That's the game.
Ryan
Yellow bitch one.
Matt Jones
I mean, you could say all five of them in some order. The point is there. What's happening? The order.
Ryan
Yellow 1. Aberdeen 2, Johnson 3, Williams 4, Chandler 5.
Matt Jones
Chandler 5 or 5.
Ryan
He's a. He's a. He's A sixth, seventh man coming off the bench. That's his role.
Matt Jones
Wow. Okay. All right. So mine is much more like Drew's than yours. I had Johnson at the 1. I've been talking to enough people around the program that I. Now I'm gonna move him out of the one. So I'm gonna say. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna say Aberdeen won again with Drew. I think that's been a change, and it's based on vibes I'm hearing from practice. That wouldn't have been my initial inclination, but I'm gonna say Aberdeen 1. I'm gonna go ahead and say Johnson 2. And I could see a world where by January or February he gets in the starting lineup. But just. I'll say. I'll say two. I think Chandler's three, and then I think there's a gap there. Kind of like you said. I think. I think those will be the three. Then Cam Williams, I think is going to play, but I think he's going to play as a backup three, backup four. And then it's not that I don't think Yellow bitch can be good. I just. Drew think if yellow bitch ends up starting, it'll be over Garrison. I don't think it'll be. I don't think. I don't think they're going to play diabate at the three. Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.
Drew
Yeah. Also with my list, I don't know the plan for backup point guard. Like, if Aberdeen's your. Your second point guard, maybe I don't have him as the starting tour of Chandler Johnson. I don't know who in practice is. Is running more point because we don't have a true.
Matt Jones
Do we know if it's supposed to be Aberdeen or ch? I mean, Chandler did. I thought did it all right a little bit. At the end of the year, Chandler.
Drew
Was in a spot. You know, he didn't practice that spot. He got thrown into it. So if he did, knowing in May that that's going to be his role. It's a different summer if, you know you have that spot he got thrown in. He was like option six last season.
Matt Jones
And unfortunately, you just completely threw me off on yours.
Ryan
Well, Drew kind of said what I was talking about. I think Chandler is going to be in that mix at guard, and he's not going to start in front of low and Ortega. I think Jasper's in the mix at guard. He's not going to start in front of low and Ortega. Williams is kind of a guy behind at the three spot. So I think yellow bitch is the guy that kind of plays the four the way Pope wants the four to play. And that's why I think he'll end up getting on the floor a lot.
Matt Jones
The. By the way, they've started practicing. They've started kind of Working out and practicing again. And I just continue to hear and I listen. You're probably. There were some things during the Caliper era that you would hear us say every off season so much that it probably got old during the Cal period era. It would be, wow, this team is so talented. We probably. You probably heard that every single time. I think. Here's what I think you're going to hear from every single team of the Pope era. Wow. These are good kids that work hard, Drew, because first of all, I think that's who he's going to recruit. But secondly, that's all you hear from people out of Lexington is this group of kids is awesome and they work insanely hard.
Drew
And that's what Pope looks like. Gonna go out and get. We're just gonna get used to this. Had that last year. Looks like we're gonna have it this year. And that's just the. The players he goes out and recruits, which I like.
Matt Jones
I mean, better than having guys you don't like.
Drew
Yeah. And I know they're just now getting back to campus, but there was some. Jack had some notes on KS board and you just. Not just Jack, everyone. The word around Lowe is that he's really stepped up and knows he's the guy that's got to be the engine of the team. And he's. He's at least in summer workouts filling in that role so far.
Matt Jones
Who's up next?
Drew
Sam is up next.
Matt Jones
Sam, Go ahead, Sam.
Caller
Hey, Matt, what do you think the magic number is for this offense to actually be competitive? I'd say 24 points minimum. They got a score. I don't feel too confident given last week's performance and Bush Hammond overall. But what are your thoughts?
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's a great question. I mean, well, let's just take the Ole Miss game. I think it's going to vary game to game. There's some games we could score less and win. Scored 24 against Toledo. How many points do we have to score to beat Ole Miss? Just raw points. Forget about, like, what we hold. How many points do we have to score?
Ryan
28 was the number jumped in my head.
Drew
I was gonna say 27.
Matt Jones
That was 27. 27 and a half, I was gonna say. And it. I'm not sure. 27 wins.
Drew
That's with good defense.
Matt Jones
But I don't think there's any way we hold Ole Miss to less than 21. Yeah, probably. So I think we're gonna have to be mid-20s, Ryan, to even have a chance.
Ryan
And I think we're going to say this maybe every single SEC game. I think the defense is going to have to hold teams. You did three touchdowns or less to try to win the football game.
Matt Jones
There might be some teams though. Like I could see, Drew. I mean, I could see like against Georgia, we've held them under 27 quite a bit just because the way they play. But I think against Ole Miss, you tell me we get 27 and well, at least we didn't get blown out. I think it's at least a fighting chance.
Drew
Yeah, they just play so fast, you know, we'll see this season. But last year and the year before, they're the fastest offense in football. You assume that's going to be the case again this year.
Matt Jones

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Rick on the Ox Court getting ready for the Ole Miss game to get everybody fired up with the random guitar riffs. 859280, 2287 text machine is 772774, 5254. They just started yesterday. Ryan, my group chat for my South African safari.
Ryan
You and all the ladies.
Matt Jones
Yes, a new person joined it. It's now me and 10 women over the course of the safari.
Drew
You should listen to reality show.
Ryan
Are they. Are they punking you?
Matt Jones
I don't know. They every week. We're now in a group chat where everyone's introducing themselves. Did I tell you there's two women with the same name? No, both British women are both name G E M M A which I thought would you. I guess that's Jim. Jimma. Yeah, I thought it was Gimme. I'm glad somebody told me that before I got There. I think that's rude. We only have two British women on the group and they both decided to have the same name. I think that they should have gotten together and fixed that before they went because I will already not remember any of these people's names. But now two of them with the same name. Maybe everybody with a British accent I know to at least just call Gimma but. Or Gemma's. No, but I just, I'd never seen the name G E M M A. Have you ever seen that before?
Drew
I mean, it's not common, but yeah, it exists twice in Britain.
Matt Jones
Well, clearly there's two.
Drew
You got to go with last, the first initial, last name with them. Gemma A and Gemma B. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Well, so they're starting to introduce each other. I did, I said my. And now I'll be looking at giraffes with them.
Ryan
It's nice to know these women are going to be protecting you on this safari.
Matt Jones
Protecting me. It's going to make sure you stay.
Ryan
Behind one of them.
Matt Jones
You know, one of them is probably going to have to help me set up the camera for the FA for the NFL show. Live from Krueger National Park. We'll see how that works out. But. But yeah. So looking forward to meeting them. You know, they, they, they write their description. I know, I don't know what to write because they're all doing these big professional jobs. I'm like, well, I host a radio show and it's fun. And that was, that's my intro.
Drew
Are you all like going over your packing list? Like, are they, are they talking about.
Matt Jones
What they did ask? Well, the problem is they asked what should we wear? But everything they're saying doesn't apply to me. Right. Like, I mean, they're not. There's nobody for me to ask what I should wear. You know, there's nobody.
Ryan
They're not wearing hoodies and shorts.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, the 10 women, I think they just have a different idea of what they need to wear. So they are asking about clothes. It's supposed to be 50 to 70 degrees, which is the worst weather because you have to pack both warm and cold clothes and that takes up more space. And I'm gonna be gone for three weeks, so I don't wanna. So I don't know what to wear.
Drew
Do you have a full length mirror at home? I think you should send them outfit choices to just kind of break the ice.
Matt Jones
I think that's a good way to get to know each other.
Drew
Yeah. Get the conversation.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Hey, ladies, what do you think of it. What do you think of this look right here? I'm sure they wouldn't, this hoodie, I'm sure they wouldn't find that odd. It sure would be nice if Mario.
Ryan
Could go with you for content purposes. That would be the greatest.
Matt Jones
It would be good.
Ryan
Yes.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I did. I, I, they sent the full itinerary. There's a lot of climbing, walking. It's a lot more active than I think I thought when I signed up for it, but, but I'm looking forward to it. Who's up next? Trevor is next. Trevor, Go ahead, Trevor.
Caller
Hey, Matt. First off, I just wanted to compliment you on your new NFL show. I listened to it yesterday. I live down here in London and it got my mind off of all the fiascos down here for a little bit. So it was, it was great.
Matt Jones
Well, first of all, thank you for saying that. We'll talk a little bit more about that in a second hour. But you, the, the, the impeachment hearing is tomorrow. Are you going? I've had multiple people write me and say they're going. If they can get in, they should put it in the gymnasium. Like, are you going to the, to the impeachment hearing?
Caller
I'm not, I want to stay as far away as I can because these people are bringing a bad name to the home of the world famous chicken festival that's at, it's, it's kind of a mess. My question, though, towards the beginning of the season, going through camp, the talk was all about Cutter Bowley.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller
And, and his upside, was that more of a, a compliment to Cutter Bowley or was it kind of cutting, you know, the Zachary Nicholas Cata.
Matt Jones
It's a great question. I don't know. I mean, I, I, I appreciate the call. What do you think? Think? Do you think that I would say. I wouldn't say Stoops and the coaches talked more about Cutter Bowley. I don't think. Then Kyle's out. I don't think that's true, but I think they talked more about Cutter Bowley than you normally talk about a backup quarterback. Do you think that was kind of setting the table for playing him at some point?
Drew
Could be set the table for playing him. But also think it's you. Your plan is Cutters your guy next year and you don't want him looking around. You want him locked in. And even though I think he did have a great camp, I think they went out of their way to let Cutter know that they're proud of him. Thought he did. Well, it's a close race. You're still our guy. If he can sit out just a little bit longer while Calzadi gets this.
Matt Jones
Your Cutter's biggest advocate, maybe on the play. If there's a kid from Lexington going back to Jagger, you know, Landon Young, decal, danky. And now Cutter. You're gonna be the advocate. You are. Mr. Lexington, what do you think was the reason for all the Cutter talk?
Ryan
Well, I'm going to take Coach Dubs at his word, where he said it was more praising what Cutter had done, not a negative against Calzada. Calzada did everything right. It's just Cutter kind of impressed him more and kind of surprised him with how much he'd advanced. So if, like I said, man, if we have one game to go from. But if that's Calzada, why not go with the youth built for your future? If the guy is actually kind of impressed you enough in the spring, you were bragging about him.
Matt Jones
If Calzada is not better than what we saw at Toledo, then, yes, we should make the change. I'm gonna give him a chance to be better than that. I think that. I think he does. It's one game. I think he. I think he deserves that. But I do think, like, if that's the max, then, yeah, I think you make a change. I don't know why you wouldn't, honestly. And to be honest, let's also say this. If Cutter came in and he couldn't be better than that, then, you know, you might need to go get some money next year. You know what I mean? If Cutter comes in and he's not better than him, then. Then maybe we got to go in a completely different direction next year. So there's a lot of reasons that if Zach Calzada is not better than what we've seen, you would make a change.
Drew
What if it's the case that maybe it's not Calzada? What if the line just sucks and it's like a Vandergriff year and you don't want to ruin your future getting him killed? I mean, we just had a guy quit football last year because the offense was so bad.
Matt Jones
I don't know how much the line is better than it was.
Drew
It is. But let's say we get to week six and they get killed by Ole Miss South Carolina and the line can't block. Do you want to put your future in?
Matt Jones
Well, there's an argument, though. If the line is not going to be better than this line, which we spent a lot of money on, Then we may just have to get a different kind of quarterback, one that can move, you know, I mean, like, we may not. May not have a choice if we can't get a better line than we've had. Of all people who helped me get educated on British pronunciation, Richie Farmer wrote me and said, think of it like. No, he said, think of it like a Diamond Jim. Jimmy. See, I go. Nobody knows Britain better than Richie. Who's next?
Ryan
Justin is Next.
Matt Jones
Just in 30 seconds.
Caller
Matt Jones. I called it last year. I'm going to call it again. We're going to beat them Rabels again, and all we got to do is score seven points and let our defense do the rest. Like, let's be honest, this Ole Miss team stinks. And then what percentage of the crowd you say are going to be Ole Miss fans?
Matt Jones
Well, first of all, you did call that last year. I remember that. You did call in and say that before the game. So I will give you credit for that. That. What percentage of the fans at the game are Ole Miss fan Saturday? It's a good question.
Ryan
I think we still have a good crowd. I'm gonna go like, maybe just 15%.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna say like 20. I'd been in some talks with the Ole Miss Collective. They were thinking about doing something at the bar. And then I was like, not pre game. So they're not doing it. And they were expecting a pretty good crowd. So I'm gonna say 20. What do you think, Drew?
Drew
I'll say 15.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I know this.
Podcast Hosts (Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel)
Four.
Matt Jones
If we had Keeneland, this won't be an invasion. Like, Texas is gonna be.
Ryan

Matt Jones
