It is Kentucky Sports Radio 859-280-2287. Clark's Puppet Shop Avision Auto Glass. Thank you all back there for coming. 772-77-45254. Before you all get out, you gotta get the the A Vision Glass cleaners back there. We are at Country Boy. Let me tell you what they have. They have great beef smash burger, smoked barbecue, 24 taps of country Boy brew. You got some of up here. You got Shannon the Dude brew. Hillbilly Hustle. Shannon, you, you're a. What do you tell everybody about your beer? People always ask me what it tastes like.
Shannon the Dude
It's a brown L. It's got hazelnut in it. That's something you don't see very often in beer is a hazelnut beer. But it's very delicious. You can get it in Kroger stores very soon.
Ryan Lemond
And then in Lexington on Winchester Road is their new pickleball facility. You all played in it. They have a lot of people out there going ding ding, ding, ding.
Drew Franklin
Makes that noise.
Ryan Lemond
And but, but it's I hear very popular. People love playing the pickleball.
Shannon the Dude
It was a lot of fun. Drew played for the first time just last week.
Drew Franklin
Oh, I had a great time. I'll pickle ball again. If I could go back and redo our night though, we just ran the gauntlet with pre show listers. I think we played seven consecutive matches.
Shannon the Dude
We did. We was a little exhausted by the end of it but I would highly encourage everybody to go there. You don't have to have a membership to be there either.
Ryan Lemond
Don't have to have a membership. That's right.
Drew Franklin
It's all stretched. Just trust me.
Ryan Lemond
For those of you here, for those of you here, $14 lunch special, double cheeseburger, fries and a beer. $14, that's pretty good. Well done by UDH and all the guys here. Let's go over a couple things before we get back the phones. Let's start with the college football decided yesterday, Ryan. The transfer portal for football will be now like basketball, it'll be one period of time in January. You may remember before you had one right after the season and then you had one right after spring practice. They've basically gotten rid of the one after spring practice. So you can transfer only in January. So I think that's good. That will make the rosters a little less crazy. Here's the only problem, though, not necessarily a problem for us, but for the teams that are playing in the playoff, they're going to have to do their transfer portal while they're in the playoff. And for the players in the playoff, you're probably going to have some distractions as guys will be in the playoff trying to decide if they're going to go somewhere else while they're in the playoff. I can't imagine coaches like that. At the same time, a school calendar is when it is. So like you can't wait till February because school have already started in the other place. So. But now there will be a three week period in January where everyone goes wherever they go and that will be a wild time.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you know, it came up during the playoffs last year where you heard the commentators talk about they felt like this guy was going into the transfer portal yet he was still playing on the team that was still alive in the playoffs. So I don't, I don't know an answer around that. I mean, you got to do it after the, you know, before the semester starts.
Ryan Lemond
Well, there's no good time because you can't wait till after the playoff. School's already started everywhere and if you wait till April, you're going to make people be in a school that they're leaving. So Drew, I don't really know what else you can do to be honest.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, there's teams with several disadvantages in college football right now. If the teams in the playoff have a little bit of a disadvantage, moving forward will be okay. They're having a good year. It's, it's like when you in the, you know, pros, you get the last draft pick because you made it farther. It's just you're in the playoffs. Sorry, you got a little bit more to do.
Shannon the Dude
Maybe that will encourage players who are actually on a playoff team to stay there. I would think that that would have a lot to do with your baby. Maybe a team that contends for the championship, maybe you'd be more likely to stay.
Ryan Lemond
I think the bigger thing for people to watch this is something. We won't know the effect of this until about one year from now. But I'm getting the sense that like a system that this past year was insanely pro player. They made a lot of like the guys playing right now this year got the best deal in the history of sports. If you are a basketball or football player this year you got double the money for the reasons we've talked about. You had a system that really had no limits on transfers. And it was wild, I'll grant you, by the way. Probably hurt us a little bit in football, probably helped us a little bit in basketball because we probably spent more than anybody else. I think the thing to watch is the momentum is shifting to. I think the system that's going to end up in place is going to be not as much pro school as it was before, but pretty pro school. A couple things is going to be this portal just being a couple weeks. Another thing is what we talked about yesterday. How many of these nil deals are getting struck down? These deals are getting struck down, which is saying like they're doing strict scrutiny. And then this is the one I think is the biggest. I didn't realize right now, the bill that's before Congress, which between which I don't think will pass, but it could. You never know. But the bill that's before Congress right now, it would give the NCAA an antitrust exam exception. Now, why would that matter? It would mean that whatever the NCAA rules put forward, they couldn't even be challenged in court. Now, that's pretty crazy. The only sport that has that is baseball. If you give the NCAA to where an NCAA rule is not even challengable in court, then all of a sudden you have a system where the NCAA becomes like judge, jury and executioner. And we've seen over the years the NCAA makes decisions that are very frustrating. And the bill that right now that has been written by, I think Tommy Tuberville gives the NCAA an antitrust exemption. If that passes, it will be a massive loss for the players. Now, I don't think it's gonna pass, but it is something to watch. It's the only bill currently before Congress and Trump has endorsed that bill. So we'll see what happens. But that. So I would say the players now should think they're lucky stars they were here the right year.
Caller
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You said it was so pro player for all this time. There had to be some checks and balances put in place somewhere, right?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. But, you know, doesn't mean you swing the exact opposite way to where, where you don't. You can't even challenge anything in court. Like, that's crazy to me. That's crazy.
Shannon the Dude
There needs to be some sort of.
Ryan Lemond
There's got to be in the middle somewhere. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And so, but fluctuating away, fluctuating all the way back the other way to me, doesn't make sense. UK Nebraska, ESPN announced the UK Nebraska volleyball game last week was the most watched volleyball game in the history of the sport. There's never been a college volleyball game in the regular season. More watched, 1.2 million people. Just to give you an example. The amount of people that watched that was more than every college football game except seven in week one. Only seven games had more people watch them than the UK Nebraska volleyball game. It was a game we lost, but Ryan, it was a game that we led for two sets and we're right there in it with the best team in the country. So really good stuff for UK volleyball.
Matt Jones
Great exposure for UK volleyball. Going toe to toe with the king of the king, the best of the best in the volleyball, college volleyball. Nebraska, Kentucky held their own, had a chance to win the game. So I think it was huge, positive for Craig Skinner. They got a big one tonight, though.
Ryan Lemond
I think, and they play. So for people who are wondering what to do tonight, if you don't want to read those two articles I gave you, UK plays, Nebraska was number one. Number two is Penn State. UK plays them tonight on Fox. This is on regular Fox. So that record that was just set might get broken tonight, Drew, as UK Penn State play. I mean, if you're Craig Skinner, at the end of tonight, you will have played in the two most watched volleyball games in the history of the sport. That's pretty good.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I, I was one of the 1.2 million on Sunday. Loved every second of it except the outcome. They were even talking about when Kentucky was up 2. Oh, if Kentucky were to win, Penn State would become number one and then Kentucky would be playing number one. And heck if you could have, you know, swept that. You know, that's a dream. But just the fact that you're playing top two Teams within a week of each other to start the season both nationally televised. I know we don't track a lot of volleyball recruiting, but I can only imagine that's huge for the program, even farther than what they've already done and.
Ryan Lemond
On network TV share. I mean, that's, you know, now we have streaming a lot of things, but still games on networks get the highest rating. That's pretty good.
Shannon the Dude
Coach Skinner has done a great job in his scheduling with that take all take on all comers mentality. And it's. It's played well into their. Their success.
Ryan Lemond
Finally, Paul Feinbaum. Ryan clearly tried to get Kentucky fans worked up. I don't know if you saw this. So SEC Nation was trying to decide this week whether they went to Ole Miss Kentucky or they went to Kansas Missouri. A lot of people don't realize Kansas, Missouri, that is a rivalry goes back a long time. They call it, I think the border war or something like that. Then they went in different conferences, so they haven't always played. Fine Bomb did a video where he looked in the camera and said everybody wanted to go to Ole Miss Kentucky. But I told them Kansas Missouri is better. They're only going to Missouri cause of me. He's clearly trying to win over the Missouri people, but he also was trying to like kind of talk trash to Kentucky Ole Miss. Do you care?
Matt Jones
I. I care a little bit because he was kind of on thin ice with me anyway, the way he. They treated you on that show. So now I'm like more so to push him away. Paul Fine. Who listens to Paul Fine Bomb.
Ryan Lemond
Boo.
Shannon the Dude
You did.
Matt Jones
I listened to Shannon, the dude on the radio that time frame.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Matt Jones
Shannon's on the same time.
Ryan Lemond
Case, what about you?
Drew Franklin
I'm surprised Paul went with the villain role that he did, but I just. I've been considering it as fact that SEC Nation would be here. I know the border war is a long rivalry, but it's the only SEC versus SEC game of the weekend. It's the first SEC versus SEC game of the season. I. I would have definitely picked this if I were the SEC network. Kansas, Missouri, I'm glad I don't.
Shannon the Dude
I wouldn't want them here anyway. Hey, bring college game day. That's the rule.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. I have to say, to be honest with you, I think SEC Nation, I like a lot of the people on it. I think they're nice people. But as an entity, who cares? Yeah, I mean, I'm just saying, who cares? Have any of you gone to watch SEC Nation? And seriously, anybody you've gone. Is it fun?
Shannon the Dude
What bet did you lose?
Ryan Lemond
No. You are hardcore fans. You wanted Grove street back and you went to SEC Nation. I just, to me, like, when SEC Nation comes here, they just sit in the parking lot. They might have a couple hundred people. Like. I don't. I, I don't say this to be rude. We get more people at our bar than they get at SEC Nation. I don't. I. It's. It's what's true. I mean, game day is a different thing now. Game day is an experience. When game day comes, like the world is at your place. I don't. SEC Nation doesn't move the needle for me at all.
Shannon the Dude
You know, the environment at KS Bar & Grill on a game day would be better than.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I just don't think it's. It just. It's fine, but it doesn't matter to me.
Drew Franklin
The only thing that's good about it is when they're in your town. I agree. If you go, there's not much. See, they at least try to feature your team more than they would.
Ryan Lemond
They do.
Drew Franklin
That's show. That is they'll have a guest. I don't watch it. But that's at least the argument of why Kentucky would be good to have on it.
Ryan Lemond
Who's up next?
Matt Jones
Daniel is next.
Ryan Lemond
Daniel, go ahead, Daniel. Hi. Go ahead, Daniel. All right. No, Daniel. What's up next?
Matt Jones
Next we got Dennis.
Ryan Lemond
Take your time. Rick. Dennis, go ahead.
Caller
Hey, Matt. I'm a. I'm a stoop supporter, but as of right now, after 13 games, I have zero confidence in our offensive coordinator. And I agree with what a lot I've heard you say. It's like he runs the football or he'll pass the football. When that. When in my opinion, he already run the football and then he's running the football when you think he needs to pass football. I just. I just don't get this.
Matt Jones
Offensive coordinator.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. I have to say for me, and I appreciate the call tomorrow for me is not a reflection on a personal level of Mark Stoops. It's a reflection in some ways, though, of Bush Hampton. I mean, we're about to go play against the best offense, one of the best offensive minds in college football. Lane Kiffin is as good an offensive play caller as there is in college football. We. I. Bush Hampton. I don't understand. I wrote some of it off last year because I was like, well, the Brock Vandergriff things not working. The offensive line's not good. But then I don't know what they were Doing Saturday a lot of those games for me, I want to see. Okay, Lane's the best. How does he stack up against him One on one. They worked last year but let's see what happens with this.
Matt Jones
And you know Stoops has made it pretty clear they're going back to the ground and pound it. Running games is that handcuff hand in a little more.
Ryan Lemond
But they didn't. That's what I'm saying. Like he said that. And then we got to midfield twice with a chance to get a field goal to make it a two possession game and they threw it six straight times for incomplete passes. So I don't. They can say that but then they don't even always execute that.
Drew Franklin
I give him a little bit of a pass on last year because he took the job in like February. He had nothing to do with the roster. Pretty unique circumstances. Then you get to the season they could not score from the two yard line. We were like, oh for whatever at the goal line. But I'll give you a little bit train him. Was supposed to be that back. He was hurt but this year no excuses and I think he's over one. On passing the test through week one, there's just a lot of the fans. Heck on your postgame show felt like every call where people just asking what the hell is even doing out there.
Ryan Lemond
I, you know, you, I take Brad White as a given. If he's got the roster we're going to be pretty good. I sometimes wish he would blitz a little more but you know what, that's a picky. That's a nitpicky thing. But offense, Shannon, I think has a lot to be questioned and you got.
Shannon the Dude
To get, I mean I know it was only one game but you got, you got to get something more out of Calzada or it's going to be a long game on Saturday.
Matt Jones
So do you buy any at all? They only ran 18 different plays. Do you buy any at all that they're.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I mean I buy that it happened. As to whether. As to what it means. Let's see how many plays they run this Saturday. Right? If we run only the same 18 plays then I'm like, oh, if we. If it's because they held out like you said they might have, then that might be different.
Matt Jones
That's, that's what I'm hopeful for, that they kept some plays in their back pocket to throw against.
Ryan Lemond
I'll tell you this, if we only ran 18 plays and then we run the same 18 plays this game we're going to get destroyed because what Lane Kiffin will will have every play. Like that's he's. Say whatever you want about him as a personality, etc. He is smart and smart people will be ready for big games. Kentucky chambers working on important issues Kentuckians are facing. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-8859, 280-2287. I know something about these people are making me miss my computer. All right, let's do our other game picks quickly. Iowa, Iowa State. Battle of corn. Iowa State is a two and a half point favorite. All it needs. Who's going to win in the battle of corn? Who?
Shannon the Dude
You got Iowa State on the road. Steals.
Ryan Lemond
Iowa State's at home. You still. So you're definitely going to take them?
Shannon the Dude
Yes. No, no, no, no, no.
Ryan Lemond
Iowa.
Shannon the Dude
Iowa on the road. Iowa on the road.
Ryan Lemond
Right. So taking the Hawkeye. All right, what do you got going.
Drew Franklin
With the home team in the Cyclones?
Matt Jones
Iowa State.
Ryan Lemond
I'm going to take Iowa State at home. Baylor. SMU. SMU has not beaten Baylor since 1986. They've lost to them 17 straight times in this rivalry. However, this game is at SMU and for the first times in 25 years, SMU is favored.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Ryan Lemond
Can they break the 40 year slump and beat Baylor in Fort Worth?
Shannon the Dude
Not gonna happen. BYU rolls.
Ryan Lemond
BYU is not in the game. It is SMU and Baylor. It will be very difficult for Baylor. For byu, to win the game.
Shannon the Dude
Baylor.
Ryan Lemond
I was looking at Baylor. All right.
Shannon the Dude
I was looking at BYU right there.
Matt Jones
Listen, he's got Ryanitis today.
Ryan Lemond
Mormons are very influential and they are able to do but they cannot win a game they're not playing. All right, Baylor. Okay, what do you got?
Drew Franklin
Baylor has a little extra time to prepare for this one. However, no one wins 18 in a row in the series. You're going with USC.
Ryan Lemond
All right, what do you got?
Matt Jones
I'm gonna go Baylor.
Ryan Lemond
Why?
Matt Jones
Because they got. They're mad they got beat last week. Go Baylor.
Ryan Lemond
All right, I'm gonna. Now remember, this is one of those things where normally I would say you're discounting the team that had a poor performance. However, SMU has not won in 40 years they're go, they're winning this one. This is the time they finally get it. The big game at night. Oklahoma and Michigan. Michigan coming to Oklahoma. Oklahoma is a five and a half point favorite. Game day is there. They have a Heisman candidate there for Oklahoma. Who you got?
Shannon the Dude
Michigan wins because. Well, because Oklahoma's got a gambling quarterback.
Ryan Lemond
That is true. He did. He did, he did game or at.
Shannon the Dude
Least they allegedly gamble shaving points for his own team.
Ryan Lemond
All right. Who you got?
Drew Franklin
Not just missing. I wish I knew what side he was on. That would help. I'll go Michigan with the upset. Oklahoma's. This is when we really set their coaches seat on fire.
Matt Jones
I think Oklahoma SEC kind of announces themselves there for real. I go Oklahoma.
Ryan Lemond
It's gonna be a great environment. I mean Oklahoma's been like looking forward to this game for, for 10 years. I'm gonna say Oklahoma wins. They had a little bit of a disappointing year last year. They bounced back. Arizona State, who last year was in the playoff is going across the country to Starkville, Mississippi to play Mississippi State during practice. I don't know if you've seen this all week. They have had graduate assistants run walking around and they did the cowbells for four straight days. The entire practice they just clang those stupid bells in their players ear to get them ready. Arizona State. Excuse. Arizona State, a six and a half point favorite. Shannon in Starkville, who you got is.
Shannon the Dude
The most obnoxious sound in college football. But I'm still going to go. Mississippi State wins the game, pulls off the upset.
Drew Franklin
All right, you got a playoff team versus a team that lost to Toledo at home last year. Arizona State goes in there and beats them.
Matt Jones
I usually stay with the SEC but not in this one. I'm going Arizona State.
Ryan Lemond
Mississippi State was bad last year and they almost lost it when week one they struggled a little bit against Southern Miss. I'm going to take Arizona State to win on the road and then your Vanderbilt Commodores go to Blacksburg, Virginia to play at Virginia Tech in the battle of the V's. Who you got?
Shannon the Dude
Andy beat him last year. They're going to beat him this year again on the road. Give me Vandy.
Drew Franklin
Are the Pavia brothers out of jail yet?
Ryan Lemond
Brothers? I think they're out of jail.
Drew Franklin
Vandy wins. If they're not there, Virginia Tech wins. I'll say Vandy wins it. They're there.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Matt Jones
Hard to win in Blacksburg. I'm going Virginia Tech.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I'm going Virginia Tech too. I think Vandy. Vandy is in For a come down this year after your big year last year too. People believe in them too much.
Shannon the Dude
I think they looked pretty good last week. I know it was Charleston Southern, but they still won by like 50.
Ryan Lemond
They can have all their Charleston girls they want in honor of Tyler. They're going to, they're going to lose in Blacksburg. Who's next?
Matt Jones
Parker is next.
Ryan Lemond
Parker, go ahead.
Caller
Hey Matt, how you doing?
Ryan Lemond
Doing good.
Caller
Hey, so I'm going to tell you tomorrow, Stoop's defense is going to win us the game. He's going to have one of those picture perfect games that he has probably once or twice a year we come out with the W2 and O start.
Ryan Lemond
All right, I appreciate the call. Let's make the case for the defense tomorrow. I like. Oh yeah, make the case for the defense tomorrow. They looked really good for 85% of the game against Toledo. Do you think that's repeatable tomorrow?
Matt Jones
Yeah, because like we talked about earlier this week, I throw that last touchdown out, that last touchdown that titled got. I'm just going to throw it out. So they gave up one score the whole game and did a good job of keeping Toledo contained. I think we've proven we got some good edge rushers. I think a defensive line is much better. I'm really still a believer in our secondary. So I like our defense against anybody in the sec.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, Simmons had to play last year a little bit in some big games when Dart got hurt. But overall for the Simmons era, he's going on the road in the SEC for the first time. You know, we worry about our own team but Ole Miss still isn't completely sold on him after he threw two picks. So if you can get him rattled, maybe that cold whistle gets him thrown off a little bit. I think he still has to prove himself.
Shannon the Dude
I think that is the key that like I said earlier, they've got a young quarterback if they can get to him early, put some pressure on him. I think that that's the way you win.
Ryan Lemond
A lot of us swine, myself included sometimes about Brad White's like zone, keep them in front of your scheme. But it does seem Drew to really annoy Lane Kiffin. He really hates that they can't go deep and he, you could see it in the game last year, he gets impatient. I don't think he likes the little five yard dump. Five yard dump. Whereas like a Nick Saban or a Kirby Smart will just take it and grind you down. It always feels like to me Lane Kiffin still wants to force it and I think it actually is partially why Kentucky has some success against Ole Miss.
Caller
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
And it can be annoying. You know, you mentioned sometimes one more blitz. Brad White could definitely be more aggressive, but just over the course of what he's done here, I mean, the defense has held up most years with that bend, don't break mentality. You wait for the other team to make the mistake, give them four or five here and there. It gets annoying when a team goes the length of the field doing it. But guy like Lane Kiffin, he gets impatient.
Ryan Lemond
It does annoy him, I think, over the course of a game. Who's next?
Matt Jones
Kent is next.
Ryan Lemond
Can't. 30 seconds. Go ahead, Kent. All right. That's okay. Great call. It's okay. Kent's got other things to do. 859-280-2287. We are here at Country Boy. You can come to this tap room and watch the Cats play all fall. You can go to their places in Lexington as well. Country Boy beer. What's your favorite Country Boy? I have people sometimes ask me which one to get.
Matt Jones
Cougar bait's been my go to for years and years. I love cougar bait. Cougar Bait. Lime. Oh, I'm sorry. Shannon, the dude brew is my go to. I've been going to Shannon Brew for years.
Ryan Lemond
You're so easily bought off. He's my boy. Do you have one? Do you have a different one you've probably tried?
Drew Franklin
I'm an IPA guy. Right now, I'm drinking a Hazy Jumper. It's very good.
Ryan Lemond
Hazy jumper, yeah. 859-280-2287. We'll take a break, be right back. Here at Country Boy, this is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. An absolutely beautiful day here at Country Boy Brewing in Georgetown. One of our longest sponsors and a great member of the central Kentucky community, country boy got 24 different beers. And it is such an awesome day to have all the fans here. One of my favorite days of the year. I was just telling somebody yesterday, I love this show because these are some of our best fans, and they come and they enjoy it and they're. They pay attention. And I always, always, always love coming out here. When the show is over, Ryan and I are joining Mario and my friend Tall. And we are going, Shannon, to the Reds batting practice today.
Shannon the Dude
Oh, nice.
Ryan Lemond
Yes. We get to go on the field. And I'm gonna tell Matt Mcclain that he stinks and that he needs to be better. And then we're gonna watch Ellie and all those guys right from the field. I have on my red shoes and I'm ready to rock.
Shannon the Dude
Go up and take some hacks. See if you can.
Ryan Lemond
I don't think they're going to let us. This is a big. I mean, they play the Mets, they're probably done, right? But you know, if they were to sweep the Mets this weekend, in theory, they'd cut it to two games. So if they're gonna have any chance, they got a sweeps. This is a big series for them and they're letting us on the field.
Shannon the Dude
Maybe you can bring them some luck. I thought the summer of Ellie was over.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, it's over.
Shannon the Dude
Well, you just said there's still a chance.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, if. If they were to sweep the Mets this weekend, there would still be a chance. That's what they'd have to do. But. But I'm still the play.
Drew Franklin
It's the one you want.
Ryan Lemond
I'm still very much looking forward to being out there. I've never gotten to see. Watch. Watch the guys take hacks. I know you got to be excited.
Matt Jones
I think. I think Tito will probably look over and see me standing there and ask me to step in the cage and do a little hitting lesson for some of the guys.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, you think so?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think so.
Ryan Lemond
But you got. I feel like this is the kind of thing you're gonna enjoy this.
Matt Jones
I mean, you invited me to come. I got immediately excited just to be on the field during batting practice. I mean, Shannon's been there. When you're a baseball player, batting practice is where all the camaraderie stuff happens. All the, you know, the moving and the shake.
Ryan Lemond
It's for a real game. I mean, this is like not just. And it's not even just a regular guy. This is a big game for them to be able to. Like, I'm. I am. I think it's.
Matt Jones
I even brought a Reds jersey to wear.
Ryan Lemond
Are you really?
Matt Jones
I got a red jersey to put on.
Ryan Lemond
Wow, that's pretty good.
Matt Jones
I know, it's big. Don't tell my dad.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I think you just did. 859-28-02287. Somebody sent me this last night, and they specifically said they wanted Shannon the dude's opinion.
Shannon the Dude
All right, let's go.
Ryan Lemond
Did you see what Michael Irvin said yesterday? No.
Shannon the Dude
No, I did not.
Ryan Lemond
Michael Irvin said that, you know, when he signed with the Cowboys, he got a million dollars as his signing bonus check. That he made a copy of his million dollar check and he would leave it on the nightstand in his house so that when he brought women home. They would casually see the million dollar check, and they would never know how much he was worth, and it would make them more into him. That feels like, to me, a Shannon the dude approved move. Is that correct?
Shannon the Dude
You don't think I'll leave a four pack of Shannon the Big Crew on my nightstand after me?
Matt Jones
Well played.
Shannon the Dude
Maybe the world heavyweight radio title on the other side. Of course.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Are we. But, like, are we really saying, Drew, that women will like a guy more thinking that they're worth a lot of money?
Drew Franklin
I think that's probably the case. You know, I used to do this move when I started working for ksr. I would leave my checkout so my roommates wouldn't ask me for rent money. It would work. It worked occasionally.
Ryan Lemond
So it had a different goal. Yeah. Okay.
Shannon the Dude
I think, though, the house should kind of show you what he's worth.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I think he had just signed, so maybe he didn't have quite the house that he did later in his career, but it was like he wanted to show, hey, there's. There's a million dollars in the bank. Or at least there was pre taxes.
Shannon the Dude
You know, Great power play.
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Who keeps the check on the nightstand, though? Like, maybe on a. On the fridge behind a magnet. But, like, you take it up to your bedroom and put it on your nightstand.
Shannon the Dude
That's where she's going to see it. She's not going to the refrigerator.
Ryan Lemond
That's true. She's not going. True. Do you like that move?
Matt Jones
I used to leave at least $3 on my nightstand when I used to bring ladies over.
Shannon the Dude
That was just the tip, though.
Matt Jones
I didn't say that. I didn't say that. It wasn't me.
Ryan Lemond
I didn't.
Matt Jones
It wasn't me.
Ryan Lemond
You know, I knew. I didn't say I knew. Shannon and Drew have already made everybody laugh. Let's just move a.
Caller
Why?
Ryan Lemond
Ask Ryan. He's only gonna. He's only gonna make it worse. And then that's what happened. 859280, 2287. Bill Belichick. I've enjoyed watching this whole. This whole shenanigans. The New England Patriots requested that their scouts be able to come to practice. That's what happens. Like, it happens all the time. And Belichick said the Patriots were banned from North Carolina practice. Other teams are allowed to come. He bans the Patriots. Is that petty? And do you support it?
Drew Franklin
Drew, it's very normal to go to a college practice and you just see NFL logos all over the place. When we had our you know, we don't get to go to many in Lexington, but when we have our media day, it's very normal to be next to a guy with the Bengals, the Titans, you name it. It's very common for them to go scout. So for him to just cut out one of the 32 teams, that. That is very petty.
Ryan Lemond
But do you like it?
Matt Jones
It's obviously, Jordan told him not to let the Patriots. She must not like the Patriots, and she made that decision.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I bet it's partially that they forced him to resign. I mean, like, that's. But that is a level of pettiness, Shannon, that I feel like I could. I. I could see it. You know, you lose a gig, you.
Shannon the Dude
Just say, yeah, I could see it. And that would probably be me too, if I were.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, you are both digging it. I could see Drew not doing it. You would do this, right?
Shannon the Dude
I would do it too.
Matt Jones
I absolutely would do it. If they let me go and fired me. I don't want them around my people, my.
Ryan Lemond
So. Yeah. So how can you. So, like, it's not Jordan. I mean, it might be Bill Belichick that just doesn't want them around.
Matt Jones
I know it's not fair to his players, but they're gonna watch tape. They're like, what are they gonna pick up in one practice they can't see during a game?
Drew Franklin
I was gonna say it's one less NFL opportunity for your entire.
Ryan Lemond
That's true. That is true. That's kind of stinky for the players because they're losing a team. That. That is. That's selfish. Who's next? Harold is next. Harold. Go ahead, Harold.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, we're not doing great on the phones today, are we?
Ryan Lemond
Are the phones working? Rick? Are they.
Drew Franklin
Rick, are we still getting this couple's massage?
Ryan Lemond
Yes, they're working fine. Are they? Well, okay. All right. 859-280-2287. We want to try somebody else.
Matt Jones
Well, we got Bob.
Ryan Lemond
All right. You know I love Bob. Go ahead, Bob.
Caller
Matt, you were talking about the crypto king down there in Smithland, my wife. When I went down there to see where the Cumberland river goes in the. The Ohio and Smithland's little town about like Jamestown. But then we saw his house and it's like five car garage. It's got a built in car wash. I mean, that guy's too much. Anyway, you talked about earlier on one of your shows that when you go to Africa, you're going to do a little swimming thing. Is it skin diving or scuba diving now? Skin diving. With a mask and snorkeling out. Scuba with the air tank. What you gonna do?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, it's not the one with the air tank. I may. I'm snorkeling. I may have said scuba diving, because I don't get in water, so I don't know the difference, But I'm doing the one where you put the little tube and you just float and you got the flippers on and that. I'm doing that thing.
Caller
Well, there you go. Listen, have a good time. If I don't talk to you before that, enjoy your eight beautiful women and one husband.
Ryan Lemond
I appreciate the call. Somebody. I got a piece of advice that they said to me that I need to wear compression socks on the flight so that you don't, because it's 15 hours long. So I bought compression socks, and I guess I should have known this, but they come up to my knees.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
So. Because I guess they come up to my knees, I'm gonna have to. I don't want to be the guy wearing shorts with socks up to his knees walking through the. Walking through the airport in New York. Well, you do, actually. Looks good on you, sir.
Drew Franklin
He's right there.
Ryan Lemond
You know what? Sir, let me apologize to you. You know what?
Matt Jones
That's a great look.
Ryan Lemond
That looks great. And. And I think making them black socks makes it work even better. You wear it well. And you got the Nike. You know what? I take it back. Now I walk the streets of Manhattan wearing that exact. Are those combat boots that you're wearing?
Drew Franklin
He looks like he's going on a South Africa actually, though.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. You actually look like. I don't have any of the clothes you're supposed to have. Like, it said. The thing I got said wear safari pants. What does that even mean? Like, I don't even know. Well, they said don't wear shorts because the. Because there's snakes and. And, like, briars and things.
Shannon the Dude
Aren't they kind of like cargoes? Cargoes, yeah.
Matt Jones
With slotted pockets.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Keep your knife.
Matt Jones
If you wear those, then you can always. Compression socks. Nobody will see it.
Ryan Lemond
You know, I'm gonna wear long pants. But it said, like, wear cargo pants. Like, that's just. Or not. Excuse me. They said safari pants? Yeah, like, that's just something I have. Drew. I don't know what that means.
Drew Franklin
I was gonna go back to the flight. 15 hours, just pull your socks and shoes off, let those puppies breathe.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know. Is that.
Drew Franklin
Is that unacceptable?
Shannon the Dude
Probably.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, I don't know if I don't Know if I want to sit next to a guy who's got their shoes and socks off, maybe I'm wrong period of time, but let the dogs.
Drew Franklin
Out on that flight.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, well, it's a long time. I mean, the flight takes off at 8 o'. Clock. Think about this for a minute. Takes off at 8 o' clock in New York. When it lands, that's on Friday night. When it lands, it will be 5 o' clock the next day in South Africa, it'll be 11am on my body time, but it'll be 5pm so basically a day Shannon is just going away.
Shannon the Dude
You'll be ready to host Kentucky Sports Radio Hour too, when you get there.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I'm not doing that. But. But I am that. That we have to do. I have to do the NFL show from South Africa.
Drew Franklin
Oh, in his compression.
Ryan Lemond
In my comprehensive. I'm only wearing my compression socks. Yeah.
Shannon the Dude
Well, at least it's radio.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Shannon the Dude
Of the mind.
Drew Franklin
He's taking a video component.
Ryan Lemond
That's right. Hey, can you believe it's already been four months since Cornbread launched their infused seltzers? They are flying off the shelves. They sponsored our night last night at KS Bar. People love them. They are crisp, refreshing and delicious. These guys drink them. You love them, don't you, Ryan?
Matt Jones
I really like them. They're really tasty.
Ryan Lemond
That's why you're always in that mood. Go to cornbread hemp.com and KSR listeners. You can get 20% off your first order at cornbread hemp.com or go get them at Liquor Barn for 20% off. KSR, it's cornbread hemp. This is the good life. When we come back, we'll give you our KSR parlay and the return of Ryan Lemon's motivational speech. That's next right here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at Country Boy Brewing. Thank you to all the folks here at Country Boy for. For everything. We appreciate it. 859-280-2287. Okay, so, so tomorrow. Well, first of all, cover zero podcast. One of the cooler moments for our NFL Cover Zero podcast was when yesterday, the NFL Network. I turned it on and at the bottom scroll, it said NFL Cover Zero, hosted by Kentucky Sports Radio's Matt Jones and Drew Franklin. Drew, that was kind of awesome. I'm not gonna lie to you. To see that on the Internet. I didn't know they were gonna do that. So that was kind of neat.
Drew Franklin
Very cool. I was actually having dinner with my parents and some family. That was in I was kinda like can we just casually change the channel over here real quick and kind of got to flex with for the family.
Ryan Lemond
Now up to number three in sports podcast. Thanks to you all very much. If you haven't yet, please subscribe. But also listen, we've gotten some great feedback. It's kind of, I mean it's us, but it's also, you know, Drew and I've known each other so long, we kind of know some things about each other and there's just a, like we're a little more casual in that and I've really enjoyed it. So we were starting to get our fade this energy so.
Drew Franklin
Well, I've gotten a lot of feedback of people who say I don't watch the NFL but I'm listening and following because of this, because of fade this, this show, all that. And those are the ones I appreciate.
Ryan Lemond
I do. I appreciate it too. And then Sunday night, you know, the la the Sunday night game is Bill's Ravens. We have to record it after it. So we're going to be at the studio with Mario and Billy at like what it'll be 11, 11:30 at night and we're going live there eventually it'll be live where people can watch at the end, but we'll probably do some social media video from it. Are you excited to do our in the middle of the night?
Drew Franklin
Just what we needed, a little more work to do on the weekend, but that's fine. It's the NFL. I watch football all day anyway. Now I just have to drive downtown for a couple hours to to meet you all at the end of the night.
Ryan Lemond
So the bar opens tomorrow 11am Our show starts at 11:30-1:30 on all the affiliates. Please listen if you come in, we we're bringing in extra places to cook so hopefully everything will go great. And then after the game, obviously we will be open as well. If you're not going to the game, please come watch it there. But we will be there 11:30 to 1:30. Adam Luckett is going to again join us in hour two to provide actual information to get you to get you ready for the game. And I'm looking forward tomorrow to be in there. Ryan, I expect a lot of fans Ole Miss listen to that. The Ole Miss, the Grove, whatever thing offered to they wanted to have like a event there from 11 to 1. We're kind of asking can we have the bar. And I said no R limit. No, I'm we no offense to you, but we have to have Kentucky fans in there before the game. And that's what we decided.
Matt Jones
Kentucky, they need this fan base to be there, be loud and be proud. I mean, they got a chance to this huge win tomorrow. They need your help.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So if that guy with 150,000 wants to come by.
Ryan Lemond
Well, it was a hard to turn down. He was. It was going to be a nice little chunk of change for Grove Collective. But I was like, you know what? I don't think our fan base would appreciate it. All right, DraftKings bet five, win 300. It is time for our draft Kings parlay. Go to draftkings.com this will be on the front page. We won week one. Yeah. So you would have won eight to one if you got it in week one. So, Shannon, what's it going to be this week? You tell me. The first leg.
Shannon the Dude
Yep. Last week I was the last leg. That sealed the deal. I'm going to do it again this week. We're going to go a late game with San Diego State. Washington State. Washington State is a one and a half point favorite. Give me Washington State and one and a half.
Ryan Lemond
Love it. I actually love that pick. I like it a lot. So Washington State, that game doesn't start till 10:15, so we won't know till 2 in the morning whether or not the KSR parlay hit. I also like it that way. Shannon doesn't last, so if we lose early, he doesn't get blamed. That's why I know how Shannon's mind works. All right. Washington State minus one and a half. What about you, Drew?
Drew Franklin
I have a night game a little before his. Feel good about this one because it's a stadium I've been to. I've already scouted this out even though it was like 15 years ago. We're going to East Lansing. Michigan State is going to beat Boston College at home. Michigan State had a close directional game last weekend. There's a bit of an overreaction. They're fine. Boston College beat up on some scrub. Michigan State just money line at home. They're four point favorite, but just win. Just win. Michigan State at home.
Ryan Lemond
Michigan State. Moneyline, you're taking the spread with Washington State. All right. What about you?
Matt Jones
West Virginia on the road at Ohio. I like West Virginia. Just money line. West Virginia pick over Ohio.
Ryan Lemond
Just money line.
Matt Jones
Moneyline.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. This is crazy. I saw that West Virginia is playing at Ohio, which is weird in and of itself, but they're only a three and a half point favorite, which is like. It doesn't seem like much. I mean, if you know Where Ohio's campus is. It doesn't feel like it's that far from West Virginia. I could see West Virginia having more fans.
Drew Franklin
So.
Ryan Lemond
So we got West Virginia, Michigan State, Moneyline, Washington State against the spread. I'm going to finish it up. I'll actually be the first game to play. Illinois is at Duke and Illinois is only a two and a half point favorite. I've been to many games. Duke football no. 1 goes. Illinois is ranked 11th in the country. They're going to have as many fans there as Duke, if not more. I will take Illinois to go on the road and win two and a half. I'll even take it against the spread. So Illinois minus two and a half. Washington State minus two and a half. West Virginia and Michigan State, another stadium we've scouted out.
Drew Franklin
We did KSR there one time.
Ryan Lemond
We did. That's exactly right. All right, Kentucky, Mark Stoops, let's you all come on down here. Kentucky and Mark Stoops. Kentucky is one and one and oh, so is Ole Miss. This is a massive game for both teams. Cats come in needing it lost eight straight SEC home openers. Shannon, give me. Tell me what the. What score is going to be and who the MVP is.
Shannon the Dude
I'm going to say Kentucky shocks the world, wins this game. Tomorrow it's going to be 2120. And I'm gonna go with Dowdell.
Ryan Lemond
Look at this guy. I wish I had known that. I think Kentucky's gonna play really well. I can't pick them to win just because I think there's too much on the other side. I'm sorry. I gotta have some credibility here. I'm gonna say Kentucky. I would say ole miss 30, Kentucky 21. And I'm gonna take as our MVP. I do think we'll. I'll take the other running back. McGowan, what about you?
Drew Franklin
I'm going to join Matt. I'm sorry. My optimism is on the back end of the schedule. Stick with me for November. We're going to win a lot of games then. But right now I have Ole Miss winning. It'll be close. They'll pull away in the end. When 27:17. My MVP will be on the Kentucky side. Zach Calzada will at least take a step forward and put away a few of the concerns. Kentucky will give him a game but won't win.
Ryan Lemond
After many years of epic Ryan Linman performances, we retired temporarily the the motivational speech two years ago. However, since that moment, Kentucky hasn't done as great. Ryan Lemon, it's time to Bring it back. Let's go, gentlemen.
Matt Jones
Take a knee. You guys are all fool yourself. One and.
Ryan Lemond
Oh.
Matt Jones
Undefeated.
Ryan Lemond
Whoopi freaking do. Who'd you beat?
Matt Jones
You beat Toledo. Toledo Lady Frickin da. Now, who's in that other locker room? Lane Kiffin. I hate Lane Kiffin. I don't like the way he talks. I don't like the way he coaches. I don't like the way he looks. He always looks like he just smelled a fart. Don't smell farts. Don't smell farts.
Ryan Lemond
This is why we retired.
Matt Jones
Lane Kiffin's the guy in high school. He'd go to the dance and stick a roll of socks down his pants. No stuff socks. No stuff socks.
Ryan Lemond
45 seconds.
Matt Jones
We won this game last year, didn't we? We did win this game. I'm sick and tired of people saying it was a fluke. I'm sick and tired of people saying we can't win an SEC home game. I'm sick and tired of those clowns today. KSR said we're not gonna win more four or five games. I'm sick and tired. I'm motivated and I got a whole lot of money.
Ryan Lemond
He has motivated pointed on his chest. Look at that. They've lifted him up, Harry back and all. Shannon. Kentucky picked by Ryan to win. We will see you all later here live. This has been at Country Boy. We'll see you tomorrow morning. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
