You know, I give people my voice. He's probably the person I was sitting here thinking that has called the show the most that I had never seen until today. Would you agree with that? Yeah. Have we ever seen the truth?

We've seen a picture of him, but.

I don't think I've ever met the truth. So I think the truth actually would hold that. But. But Bob might have been second. Drew, yeah.

Even right now. Well, so yesterday Lexington got the most rain in a day it had ever gotten in October. And the fifth most rain in a day it had ever gotten in history.

Did you know that my basement flooded, so. Yes, I absolutely know that your basement flooded.

[Matt Jones]

I've never had water in my basement ever. Well, I've only lived there for six years, but my, my basement had a layer of water all on it from all the way down.

It was wild driving around yesterday. I mean there were streets flooded all over Lexington. Louisville I think had a lot of flooding, but. But it looks like everything's okay. But just pounded rain all day until about 7:00'.

[Drew Franklin]

Clock. Yeah, my crops needed it. I was glad for that. But I had a lot of things around town. I didn't have an umbrella. So I would just have to step out and just accept that I'm soaked walking around places.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, it was, but. But now it's beautiful today and a lot of good stuff going on. I. I just want to say I'm in. I'm in a good mood. Like I'm in a really good mood.

[Ryan]

Yeah. Why?

[Matt Jones]

I. I slept more last night continuously than I have in years. I went like nine hours without waking up. Usually I wake up at like five and a half, six hours. Then I, you know, have to go to the restroom or something. Then I'm awake and I kind of drift back in that. This was just solid. Went to bed at 11:30 and did not move until 8:30. So I'm like in. This is the most energy I've had in forever. I don't know why, but. But I did.

[Ryan]

But I bet you still woke up 10 minutes before your alarm was supposed to.

[Matt Jones]

I know. I never hear my alarm.

[Ryan]

That's amazing.

[Matt Jones]

But this was like this. So just, Just so you know, if you hear a lot of energy, that's why it's happening. Drew. I don't know why I slept so well, but I'm in.

[Drew Franklin]

Probably need a little catch up sleep. Maybe you've been back a few days, but still probably.

[Matt Jones]

Well, South Africa, the alarm would go off. We had to leave it multiple days. We had to get on the safari vehicle at 5:15, because that's when animals are out. That's when they do that.

[Ryan]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

So when. As the sun comes up, that's when animals. I think that's when they're. I see these kids are here. I'm sorry. I think that's when their horniest is. Is in the morning. So like, that's when they get up and they. What are you laughing at? I think it's. It's just science. What do you want from me?

[Ryan]

I just gave them a quick look.

[Matt Jones]

To see if they were. But that's why they're out.

[Drew Franklin]

So that's what you were there to see. I thought you're just there watching grays, like, eat some grass.

[Matt Jones]

I mean, I didn't. I didn't go for that. It wasn't like that. It's just they're most likely to come out in public so that they can meet their. Their spouses during that time. And then when it gets later in the day, they tend to like, blend into the. To the, to the bush and it's.

[Drew Franklin]

Harder to see them.

[Matt Jones]

That's the thing.

[Ryan]

So if you had to say, did. Did the ladies kind of hand lead you or did you hand lead the ladies?

[Matt Jones]

I don't know what that means.

[Ryan]

Like, did they. Were they taking care of you?

[Matt Jones]

Making sure you were take care of me? You. You know, I am. I am mid-40s and have been by myself since I was 18. I'm fine.

[Ryan]

We know you, though. Out in the bush, were they kind of hand leading you around?

[Matt Jones]

There was nothing. Car. We got in and then we would get out.

[Drew Franklin]

There was no.

[Matt Jones]

We were not out.

[Ryan]

Did they hold your hand?

I was fighting rhinos. I was driving around. The hardest thing was the sun because it was on my face the whole time. That was really the only. The only problem that we did have. I was so impressed with the two people on the trip that were from South Africa, how good they were at spotting stuff. Like, if we didn't have them, I don't think. I mean, maybe, you know, we'd have seen the elephants, but. But in general, a lot of the other stuff, they'd be like, you know, leopard, right? And you'd go, what? And then there it was, like actual.

[Drew Franklin]

Tour guides or people on your.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, there was. That. We had. I had a whole trip. So he did all 11 days. And then we had someone specifically for the safari. And the woman for the safari, she could see stuff. Just. It was unbelievable. She could just Be like, zebra right over there. And then you would see it, and.

[Drew Franklin]

It was, zebra gets me every time. That's not how we say it here.

[Matt Jones]

I'm saying, you're South African now. Coming back here saying, fine, I'm zebra, all right? I've been to south. I've been to the Johannesburg soccer game. I'm. I'm. I've been there. I'm good. But, yeah, that. That's. I. It was really cool. And it's not like what you think. Like, you probably think of, like, this green, lush land. This was, like, brown. So it wasn't the most beautiful landscape, but it made it easier to see the animals because there weren't leaves and stuff everywhere, which actually made it easy.

[Ryan]

So they're just like one person driving and one person watching.

[Matt Jones]

Like, it was one person. So it was a car, and it had, like, a high thing, you know, where people could sit top, but I had to sit in the bottom because there weren't enough seats. So it was me and her sitting ground level, and everybody else was up top, and she would drive around and she could just. She could just see everything.

[Drew Franklin]

So it was.

[Matt Jones]

It was awesome. We did it for two days. But that 5:15, those 5:15 wake up calls, there's a part of me, it's like, I've seen plenty of animals. I skipped the third one, to be honest with you.

[Drew Franklin]

I can see you. You're not a morning person. Don't really care.

[Matt Jones]

We did cover zero, and it finished at, like, 1:45 in the morning. And I said, I'm not going on the third day. I'm sorry. So yesterday, Drew and I went to UK pro day, and I'm going to go ahead and tell you now, like, what is it? Basket. No offense to. To all things UK football and Mark, I'm. I'm basketball. All right, I'm. I'm all in. I'm basking. I. Watching that yesterday got me very, very excited. Like, very excited. We. I don't know how good we'll end up being. Like, it depends on how they connect and all that. But we got a squad. We got dudes upon dudes upon dudes. We've got 12 guys that are really good. Ortega didn't play, so he would be the 12th, but he wasn't playing yesterday. And even the 13th, Reese Potter could. If he. If you needed him to go in, he could play. I mean, we got. We. We got guys, and they're fun to watch and they're crazy athletic, and all I can do is compare it to last year, Drew, you and I sat there last year. I watched them. My take last year was, wow, they can shoot. They can really shoot. But I did think, I'm at. I might be more athletic than a couple of these people. That was my take last year. This year, maybe you take a 10% drop in shooting. Not a huge drop. Maybe a 10% drop in shooting. But we got some athletes and we got some dudes that are like, Jalen Lowe. I already had all the stock. I bought. Like, I called my broker and bought even more. I mean, he's so fast. He's so fast. He. We didn't have. We didn't have that guy last year. We haven't had a dude this fast off the bounce since. Well, Dillingham was like that, right? But we haven't had many of them like that in the, you know, Fox, Dillingham, Wall. Lowe's probably not as fast as those guys, but he'd be right behind them. Would you agree with that?

[Drew Franklin]

Oh, yeah.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

He looked great last night. And just to be a pro day, they're out there diving on the floor. He was yelling at people, getting up in their face if they were. If they made a mistake. It was like I felt like they were getting ready to play the tournament.

[Matt Jones]

Such a contrast between the pro days of Cal this in terms. I mean, they were practicing. And I feel bad for y' all at home, cuz it was really. It reminded me of when Cal Perry was here the first few years. He would invite me to practice every year, and I would say, man, I wish fans could see this. I wish you could see how much back then Cal and Robick were coaching. Because when. If you went to practice, you'd be like, oh, this is something. That's what I felt like yesterday. I know it was on, but I believe. Didn't they show Just poor Dick and Goose just talking the whole time.

[Ryan]

Yeah, I'm good to hear. You guys got to enjoy it because us sitting at home didn't get to enjoy it very much.

[Drew Franklin]

The reviews online are not good.

[Matt Jones]

How do they do that? Why even bother showing it if you're not gonna show it?

[Ryan]

Well, like you and I said before the show, show this. You can talk, but show the scrimmage while you're talking.

[Ryan Seacrest]

Show them practice.

[Matt Jones]

I wish fans. I wish fans could see it. I wish you could see, like, first of all, I wish you could see how good a coach we have and how good of assistance we have.

[Drew Franklin]

They lead it just as much as he does.

[Matt Jones]

I mean, Mark Fox is Out there doing great stuff. Alvin Brooks, the McLean guy. Jason Hart. I wish we could. I wish people could see and appreciate what they're doing. So here's what stuck out to me. Jalen Lowe stuck out the most. I think Trent no is either grown or gotten stronger. Would you agree with that? He looked like a. Just a bigger dude.

[Drew Franklin]

That was my number one takeaway. Just appearance. Trent Noah looks completely different.

[Matt Jones]

He's.

[Drew Franklin]

I know Pope wanted to add 18 pounds. He looked like he lost 18 pounds.

[Ryan]

He looks.

[Drew Franklin]

He's very lean, very like.

[Ryan]

But like fit.

[Drew Franklin]

Not like he's skinny.

[Matt Jones]

Face gotten much skinnier.

[Drew Franklin]

I mean, you know, you don't like to say somebody has baby fat, but he probably had a little bit of baby weight on him last year and that's completely gone.

[Matt Jones]

I thought so. So. So to me, Jalen Lowe sticks out the most. Otega wasn't on the floor, but if you were watching, you would say, okay, that's our best player. Trent Noah looked really good. Michael Moreno.

[Ryan]

Malachi.

[Matt Jones]

Malachi. Excuse me. I talked to his brother Michael during the thing, who just got married. Malachi Moreno, that kid. The difference between him and when he was a junior in high school, which was the last time I'd seen him play. They're different kids. Moreno is going to play. Yeah. I didn't know if he would after watching yesterday. He's going to play. Didn't you think? Oh, great.

[Drew Franklin]

I mean, we thought, you know, he's a McDonald's All American. He's going to be good, but maybe not quite ready. They're pre stacked, Storm at the end of the bench. Maybe you'll need him. He was just going up and dunking on people's heads in a crowded paint last night. Yeah, he's bulked up a lot too. I didn't watch a lot in high school, but he looks college ready.

[Matt Jones]

We. A lot of guys can shoot. I mean, Aberdeen makes like every shot he takes.

[Ryan]

Did low shoot the ball well from outside pretty good.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I mean, but I mean, Lowe's thing is the way he takes people off the bounds. But yes, Lowe shot the ball well.

[Ryan]

It's good to hear.

[Matt Jones]

You know, Noah, it's one practice, so I'm not getting ahead of myself. My only concern was, was our man Diabate shoots. Not great.

[Drew Franklin]

I don't know if that's. He didn't take many last year. Yeah, I don't know.

[Matt Jones]

I think everybody thought he was going to come in here. I don't see him shooting a lot of threes.

[Drew Franklin]

I think he took we looked it up. Was it like 25 all of last year?

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. So not even one? He didn't. He didn't look like he'd taken many. So it'd be interesting to see because in Pope's system, your 4 needs to shoot 3. So if he plays the 4, I'll be interested to see what. What they do because. Because he's not going to shoot much. I wouldn't think maybe they play him at the 4, but he's actually playing 5 on offense because I think Moreno and Garrison can shoot from outside, but Jasper Johnson, you know, look good. Who. Who am I missing here?

[Drew Franklin]

Well, my king, Colin Chandler.

[Matt Jones]

Colin Chandler. Dude, Drew's right. Like, if he doesn't start, he may not start. He's a six man, and he will dunk on people.

So much bounce.

Yeah. I mean, he will dunk on your face. What makes him a couple last night?

He can play the one or the two. You can bring him off the bench of six men. Back up. Either one guy, either of those guys.

It's just the thing that strikes me about this is how deep this team is. It's not 2015 deep, because those were all pros. Right. So. But they were young. But they were all pros. But you take that team out, this is the deepest team we've had. I don't know since when 2015 was deeper, but you get beyond that now. I don't know who's deeper than this. When your 12th man is yellow.

Yeah.

And he was on one end of the floor. Do they show that on the screen? He was on one end of the floor and he had the towel on the ground. And he had to run with the towel on the ground, like, bent over, like a triangle, all the way up and all the way back. And I literally thought if they did that to me, I'd quit.

My back was hurting just watching him that. And before they got into scrimmages and drills, they did the diving on the floor drill.

[Matt Jones]

That's the old Billy.

[Drew Franklin]

I don't think Cal ever did that. They just roll a ball out there and tell you to go dive. And I was just like cringing every time they did it.

[Matt Jones]

Billy apparently would do that for like 30 minutes.

He did.

He. They only did it one time, and.

I think he did it on gravel, shards of glass.

But I came away very, very excited. My take on it is this team is deep. Foul trouble. Not worried about it. Unless it's the point guard. We're very deep. My only question will be, who are our stars? I know Jalen Lowe is going to be one, and I assume Otaga is going to be the second. You know, J. Bilis always says you got to have three. We'll see who the third develops. But we got a lot of choices, in my opinion, as to who that can be.

Could the third guy end up in being Jaden? Quite as. Once he gets healthy, mate, yes.

[Matt Jones]

Maybe. Now, he didn't do the. He didn't do the back and forth. So he did some workouts, but he didn't do the five on five. So I. We didn't really get to see him in that context. But he could shoot, too. He was.

He was draining shots and, well, to the point of the depth. My other big takeaway, we haven't named him yet. Braden Hawthorne is the best 15th man in the country.

And they're playing to some and so it just makes it to where no one stops. Like it's just one group goes to the end of the court and then they start the second one and then they start them back and like there's no, there's no waiting, there's no standing around.

That was my big takeaway last season, the first time we saw practice. It's just there are so many people involved.

Yeah, they got a dude, it's same dude they had last year. They got a dude that is 38 with a mortgage out there playing basketball. I'm telling you, there's a guy out there now, we looked up his college. My guy, he had to tell you. What's his name? Fitzpatrick.

Yeah, he was the Patriot League player of the year. He had like a 10 year career overseas.

I'm not, I'm not mocking this dude. This dude would eat up the ymca. He's, he's got, Last year he wore two knee braces. This year, now he's wearing those pants like the white tight sleeves. The sleeves and, and, and he's a bucket. Yeah, but he moves like, I think he needs to go to hot Yoke because I mean he, he, he moves less fluidly than me, but he still will give him the up and under and the dipsy. Do you know, I mean he's still doing his, he's still doing his thing. I don't know where they got this guy because he's in his mid-30s, I.

Years old and he's like posting up Brandon Garrison and go. It's fun to watch.

I'm gonna have to believe that. I don't know if that dude can get up and get a dunk. I don't know if he could jump, but. But he's fun to watch. I mean, I will say when you got a 35 year old out there running with them, it's kind of funny.

And people would probably recognize him if we could share its radio, but he's on the bench with the clipboard and a suit. Like he's around. You would probably recognize his face. But. Very unsuspecting at age 35. But good basketball player they have out there helping out.

[Ryan]

Makes me want to see some video. I mean, for sure.

[Matt Jones]

Well, you could have watched it yesterday if they would have showed it.

You know, we didn't get to see.

How much of it did they show Any of it?

[Ryan]

Very, very little. I got so frustrated I was mopping up water in my basement anyway when I had it on, so. But only thing I really noticed was that they seemed just more muscular, like thicker, bigger.

So much more athletic.

Yeah.

And I don't think you realize, I mean, you know, how much more athletic Away and Butler were than the other guys last year. And it just really stuck out how much. Well, now you got a team now.

That everybody looks that way.

Everybody looks like that. Including like Trent Noah. I mean, yes, like Trent Noah looks different than he did last year as well.

[Drew Franklin]

And I just couldn't get over how like competitive they were. But Pope said at media day sometimes we have to stop them from fighting each other because every practice they're going to war. I kind of saw a little bit of that. They're there to entertain scouts and just get some drills and measurements out there. And like I said, they're treating it like they're about to go play the tournament.

[Matt Jones]

I also liked, I was watching because this is the worry people have about Jalen Lowe. Like, will he be selfish? Right. Will he share the ball? I like it. Just practice feels like he gave up shots to share the ball throughout the whole thing. Did you agree with that?

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah and that's the thing I think he's going to do a lot of Pat Kelsey has a comment when they played him last year he was like low would get every anywhere he wanted and right. You thought he's about to lay it in. He's now kicked it out to someone for an open 3. It was like he just finds a spots and then can distribute out to the open man better than anyone he had.

[Matt Jones]

He is gonna like he can get a step. The player reminds me the most of and I'm sure because the whole left handed thing. But is dear Fox not as fast as de' Aaron Fox? I mean dear and Fox is like another level of fast so I'm not saying he's that fast but when you're sitting there watching him if you were to say like what is the comparison? I I would say dear and Fox. Do you agree with that?

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, he would appreciate that too because he knows Darren. Darren Fox recruited him to Kentucky. They're both Texas guys so but that's might be a little. Might be a little bit now they play.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah I mean I being from the.

Same you know grassroots basketball I'm not.

Trying to put the deer in Fox because dear and Fox was like insanely quick. Not saying he's that but he's you know a half step behind that quick and I and he'll, he'll get to the you know we didn't have dudes who could get to the rim last year.

Yeah.

At the end of the day, you know away would muscle his way to the rim and Butler would. But now we got a dude who can take you to the rim and it's good.

Well I mean part of it was in the preseason. Cal wasn't letting me come to anything since COVID So I didn't. And then I went last year and I was excited, but I could tell the limitations of that team. I think that team, by the way, last year, when we look back, really will have overperformed. And we should be really proud of the. Of the way they played all year. I mean, I. Genuine. Especially when you start to see the teams that Pope will probably have going forward. Do you agree with that?

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, definitely. I mean, we loved a lot of those guys, but, like, an Andrew Carr with back problems is not half as athletic as what we saw last night.

[Matt Jones]

Not. Not even close. And then. And then the second thing is, you know, we've had a lot of elite talent here and you can. You can see it like, you can see when guys. And I love. This is something we didn't have under Cal. I love watching guys improve. I love seeing how much better Trent Noah is, and I love seeing how much better Colin Chandler is. Like, that makes me. That just makes me excited. We don't. We've not gotten to do that in 15 years to watch guys, Ryan, like, really improve.

[Ryan]

Did you anybody say anything about what Ortega's return is like? Will he be able to.

[Drew Franklin]

He's back this week because I interviewed him Monday and I was like, are you back practicing? He was like, I'm back to full speed. Maybe he just didn't want to do.

[Matt Jones]

That in front of the pros.

[Drew Franklin]

You're second practice back and you've already done the NBA thing in May. That was me speculating. But he did say he's back this week.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I think I was told he will play in the Blue White game, which is a week from Saturday. We'll see what he does with Big Blue Madness. One person writes, matt, you didn't mention Cam Williams. You guys never talk about him. I just. Because amongst the guys, he didn't stand out as much as the others. But he made every shot I saw him take. Not necessarily. I wouldn't say to me, Drew, he looked like a seventh, eighth, ninth man, but he made every shot he took.

[Drew Franklin]

I saw he blocked a three pointer. That was one of those. Whoa. Like, not many people would go up and get a three pointer like he did. And then hitting some threes, you could see flashes. But as you said, I mean, when I'm writing down the people that jumped off the page, he's a little farther down, but you could see potential. There were moments.

[Matt Jones]

One person writes, Ryan's assessment of you needing someone to take care of yourself. Correct. Most men in their mid-40s don't ruin their iPhone putting it in the same pocket as a Coke can. Alright, first of all, that's rude. Secondly, or go without an iPhone during a once in a lifetime trip in a foreign country. That could be dangerous just to save money that would cost what your shoes cost. All right, I don't need this from you now. The reason I didn't buy a new iPhone, I thought I said this. So in South Africa, everything cost about a third of what it cost here. So like if you were to go to get McDonald's in South Africa, what is McDonald's here? Nine, $10 for a meal there, it would be like three. So like, so that's cool. I mean food, you know, a Diet Coke, like a bottle of Coke Zero was like 84 cents or something. But now the opposite to that is luxury goods are insanely expensive. So an iPhone, I think I got this iPhone, I got the seven for like $1600. In, in, in South Africa it's like $4300. Because the disparity of wealth is so much that the rich people are so rich they can just charge them anything. And thus they do. So like the, like, I don't buy Rolex watches, but there was a Rolex store and somebody in our group went and they were like, the Rolex is here are two and a half times as much as they are in New York City in South Africa. The other thing is if you get a phone in South Africa, they can't give you an American phone number. So I would have just had a South African phone number for the rest of my life. And I was like, what's that going to do for me? So that's why I drew. I didn't. That would have been funny.

[Drew Franklin]

Well, to the counterpoint to the original text about not taking care of yourself, you're. You're here right now. You seem fine. You made it. So you did take care of yourself.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. There was only one time, had one night that I was a little nervous. I was at the mall trying to get my phone fixed. They finished, it was like three and a half hour walk. And they tell you do not take taxis on the street. They're like, that's, don't, that's dangerous. Either get in an Uber or call a taxi company and have them come get you while I didn't have any way to call anybody. And I wasn't gonna go up to people and go, can I call a taxi with your phone? Like that would. I would that, you know, that makes. So I was like, look, I'LL walk. It's three and a half miles. It's on the beach. Right. I'll be fine. Well, it was day, but it was turning into night. By the time I got the last mile, it was dark. And it's just, you know, during the day, everyone's out, but it's like at night, it's like they turn the lights off in the entire city and everybody goes home or everybody gets inside. So all of a sudden, these streets that were bustling with people, there's nobody there. Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean, you don't. You don't walk at night, and you're walking at night. I walk for the last half mile. So that was like a little. That was like a little like. All right, let's speed up a little bit. I wasn't in the worst neighborhood. It was fine. But like. But they just don't walk at night in Johannesburg or Cape Town. We just do. Not out in the rural areas, I think they do it more. But just in Johannesburg and Cape Town, you do not walk at night.

[Ryan]

Drew did tell a story on you. You guys did cover zero, and you were in a tent and everybody else is trying to sleep. You're trying to whisper because you didn't want to wake everybody.

[Matt Jones]

I was in a tent, and everybody else was in the tent, and they were asleep, and I was trying not to.

[Ryan]

I'm sure they loved that.

[Matt Jones]

Trying not to wake them up. But I'm sitting there going, you know, Joe Flacco. And then I go, I'm sure they loved you. It was 1:15 in the morning out in the woods. So who's up next?

Andrew, how are you, Andrew? Wonderful. Hey, Matt, I don't know if you heard yesterday, but the tickets went on sale this morning at 10 o' clock for the UK UofL game. I've been on hold for a few minutes, and there were still, I don't know, quite a few left. So there's tickets. Tickets for UK UofL at the Yum center are on sale right now. Correct. With a buddy of mine. You got six of them. Yeah, we.

10 o', clock, they went on sale. I've been on hold. Are you talking football or basketball? I'm talking basketball. I have fades. That's amazing to me. They were the tickets released from UofL. They're all up top. But $98 a piece. That's amazing.

Bought a bunch the UK UFL basketball tickets on a year that their top 15. They did not sell out.

I'm gonna buy some right now.

Wow. Well, thank you for letting me know. I appreciate the. Appreciate the call. That's. So I actually had written down, Ryan, that I'm kind of amazed about Louisville attendance at things. So Louis played Virginia in football. Saturday was at 4 o'. Clock. Beautiful weather. Louisville is undefeated and Virginia is ranked.

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And if you look at their schedule, you could have made a strong argument that if Louisville wins that game, they have a path to the playoff. Not. I mean, not certain to make it, but they have a path if you look at it. And yet there were 25,000 empty seats or maybe 20,000 empty seats. I couldn't believe it.

[Ryan]

Which is kind of crazy because there was so much excitement about this season. I think of Louisville football fans.

[Matt Jones]

What do you make of the fact that. That this is that they cannot sell out the UK U of L basketball game on a year. They probably have the best chance to win that they've had in forever.

[Drew Franklin]

I said this a year ago. They're broken. And it's not fixable like when Pat Kelsey.

[Matt Jones]

But they have two young, exciting coaches and look, there's.

[Drew Franklin]

I pulled up Ticketmaster. There are plenty of upper level seats available for the Kentucky.

[Ryan]

What is it, the Tuesday night? Right. Tuesday night at 8 o' clock though.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. You think, let me ask you, if UK U of L was here this year on a Tuesday night, you think there'd be tickets?

[Ryan]

No, it's one of the first marquee.

[Drew Franklin]

Games of the season. Who cares if it's a weeknight? But there's plenty online right now.

[Ryan]

Is the St. Andrews Fair that week?

[Matt Jones]

Well, no, now. Last Saturday was the St. James Art Fair.

[Ryan]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And I do wonder if they didn't sell out because of the St. James Art Fair. Because it was going on last week.

[Drew Franklin]

It happened last year. I remember the jokes.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

It's like, well, we couldn't possibly fill the stadium. You know, the St. James Art Fair was going on. It's like, oh, our bad.

[Matt Jones]

Well, it was going on this week too. So that might be. Here's one. What I think happened. I think two things happened that really screwed up U of L football, basketball. I don't understand how their basketball is not sold out. That arena is the same size it was before. The fact that they're not selling out is really something that's got to scare football. What happened is Tom J expanded that stadium to make it bigger than Kroger Field. And they don't have the fan base. I mean, we have retracted our stadium, I think, correctly. They expanded it. And their fan base cannot support the expansion of What? They have 60,000 seats there now. They can't handle that.

[Ryan]

And you're right, though. They have a path to 10 wins. I don't have to play at Miami, and they got Clemson at home, but they might get to 10 wins this year. You think they'd be excited about that?

[Matt Jones]

I think they really screwed up with the expansion. And then the other thing is, and I've been saying this for 15 years, Kentucky athletics is a passion. All right? Everybody in here, that's here. You have that passion. Bob's 92 years old. Drove from. Drove from Louisville. We got here from E town, Franklin county, you know, got people here who come just to watch the show in Lexington. Louisville fandom is a party, and there's a big difference between passion and party. When the party's not fun, you don't go. Right. When the passion's there, you're. You're with it. But when the party's not there, you don't go. And it's not. They haven't won at quite the level they did. Tom Jerds created an atmosphere where going to U of L stuff was cool, but it still wasn't kind of in their blood, Drew, like it is for us. And I think you're seeing that now because they're. They're good now, and they're still not getting the same support.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. And I don't. I don't think it's coming back. I think another part of it is just scandal, exhaustion. Maybe if you're a fan of that basketball team. I know a lot of them kept talking themselves into seasons, but at some point, you had to be like, I can't just keep doing this. I mean, that was a brutal patch from the end of Patino. You got Chris Mack turning on his buddy with the FBI. I mean, their stuff is truly unbelievable. And I could understand if some of their basketball fans were like, I can't keep following.

[Matt Jones]

But you do wonder, at some point, they've got one of their own coaching football. Grew up in that city. Right. The Brahms are like royalty in that city. He's coaching football. Last year, they won, what, nine or 10 games. Then you got Kentucky, you got basketball. They make the tournament. They got a guy who, whatever you think about how good he'll be, he's exciting, he's brought it. They got a freshman, Mikhail Brown, who's gonna be one of the best players in the country this year as far as a freshman. And they just, they can't sell out the UK U of L game.

[Drew Franklin]

Broken.

I said when word gets out there's tickets available, there's gonna be a lot of blue come in that well.

One of those guys. I think we look back, wish he had a do over because he just wasn't ready to play point guard in the SEC last year. But out of necessity he had to because of the injuries. I wish he could have had a chance to maybe develop a little better, but it just, it was a good departure on both sides.

Here's what will happen though. When we play them, he'll score 15.

Like when we play them. It is 100% certain to me, Drew, that he will have a big game. That's just going to happen.

That's fine as long as they don't win the game. You know, Travis was put in a bad spot last year when he committed to California before Pope even got here. And we all just assumed he'd be at the end of the bench. If you told us he'd be guarding Mark Sears at Alabama in his freshman season, we would say what in the hell happened to get to that point. But that's what Kentucky was in last year. I think he'll be a good player long term, but I don't think he would have had a huge role this season with what they have.

[Matt Jones]

Can we talk about. About the latest on your boy Bill Belichick?

[Ryan]

Oh, yeah.

[Matt Jones]

So right after the show, they announced canceling the Hulu series. The Hulu documentary about behind the scenes with Bill and Jordan canceled.

[Drew Franklin]

This is looking forward to it.

[Matt Jones]

I know. I think it would. This is why you want to watch?

And now it looks like they're not going to have it. Things just keep falling apart. They call the GM a jerk and now they cancel the Hulu series. Paul Fine Bomb, who apparently is back on the air, said yesterday, Bill Belichick is going to go down in history as the worst college football coach of all time, the best pro football coach of all time, and the worst college football coach of all time.

[Drew Franklin]

Even worse than that guy from UCLA they just fired.

[Matt Jones]

They can't be worse than the guy from UCLA who won one game in two years. Is it possible he's the worst college football coach of all time?

[Ryan]

He's got to be in the conversation to be as successful as he was at the pro ranks. How could you fail that miserably in the collegiate ranks?

[Matt Jones]

Only played four games, so it's not.

[Ryan]

They got just destroyed by Clemson last weekend. Destroyed.

[Drew Franklin]

I don't think I've called him the worst of all time. But we are learning that there's just completely different skill set and the way you coach college and the NFL because it's very obvious he's going to need a little time to get acquainted. I don't know how much time he has left in his coaching career, but.

[Ryan]

What do you do if you're in North Carolina?

[Matt Jones]

Think about how good that show would have been.

[Ryan]

Oh, been great. It'd have been awesome.

[Drew Franklin]

Doubled its ratings. Based on how.

I mean, it would have been awesome to watch because, like, apparently there are fights in the locker room. Like, if the cameras were all there, that would have been the greatest. And I want to know, what kind of reality show do you just get to cancel?

[Drew Franklin]

You got it. You agree to that?

[Matt Jones]

When we brought the cameras into obw, they didn't say, well, if you don't like what's going on, I mean, they showed that on tv. Right. Like I did. You know, I mean, there comes a point, Shannon, you shouldn't be able to cancel it.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. I mean, you. I would think you would want drama.

[Ryan Seacrest]

You would want controversy.

[Drew Franklin]

That's what makes the show Good.

[Matt Jones]

That's why people to watch it.

[Drew Franklin]

The guy's 2 and 3 so far. He's not the worst coach of all time in college.

[Matt Jones]

Nobody wants to watch a boring show, right? We want to watch the drama, watch the good show. So I think. I don't understand why they canceled it.

[Drew Franklin]

If they were 4 and 1 right now and that documentary came out, no part of me would care to watch it. But if they released it right now with a bad record and the Patriots drama and the Jordan drama, I'm running to watch it.

[Matt Jones]

One person writes, Matt, do you think we have a big man who can be like Amari Williams last year, handle the ball and pass? I don't think they'll be as good as him at that. I mean, I think he had a uniquely. I mean, think about it. He can't shoot. He's not much of an offensive player, and he's going to make an NBA team because of how good a passer he is. So I think that's a rare skill. You know, Brandon Garrison is going to have to be better at it. What'd you think of him yesterday? He looked pretty good.

[Drew Franklin]

I'm worried Brandon Garrison is going to try to be Amari Williams this year, and Amari was kind of a unicorn. There's not many Amari Williams that can pass and bring it up like that at his size. I hope so. I hope Brandon Garrison could do it a little bit, but I hope we don't get to remember he'd forced turnovers. We called it BG time where he called his own number.

[Matt Jones]

Well, we saw some of that. Yes.

[Drew Franklin]

I hope he doesn't try to be Amari because Amari was his own thing.

[Matt Jones]

We saw the Brandy. Garrison still does the. All right, clear out here. Here it comes. Although he does have a weird way of, like, getting an open layup, even though arms and limbs are going in in seven different directions.

[Drew Franklin]

And he'll have a green light to take some threes this year.

[Matt Jones]

I think because he's so big, there's something about his drives to the basket that look nothing like anyone I've ever seen because he'll shoot and he'll kick one leg up in the air and then his arms over here and he's shooting, and he just looks like a praying mantis with just limbs going in every direction, and then it goes in.

[Drew Franklin]

And then he looks at the other bench and wants to fight all of them. It's like he's got a lot going on there. Yeah, they'll need that intensity, though. That you know, he. Some. Maybe a couple times last year, had to reel him in a little bit. Didn't Amari, like, physically carry him off the court? Yeah, but what Pope lacks in that fire, I think Garrison kind of helps bring it out.

[Matt Jones]

He definitely has that.

[Ryan]

So is the backup in the post right now, Marino.

[Matt Jones]

Diabate at five some and Moreno. I mean, I think yellow Vic is third of the three. Do you agree? Yeah. He looks a step slow to me. I mean, he made every shot. I just think. Same thing we saw with Z. I just think he's got a hard time playing defense. I mean, he's a step slow to me, to everybody on the court.

[Drew Franklin]

I still want to see what he has in him because at media day, because some reports that came out of his first practices, they didn't look good. Immediately he was like, man, I sucked when I got here. It was taking a little while. He's like, figure it out now. But first few practices, I didn't know what I was doing. And him being open about that, almost laughing at it, gives me a little hope that he has. He's confident that he's going to get it dialed in.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I mean, skill wise, you can see how skilled he is. It's just going to be a matter of can he guard anybody? Can he guard anybody? And that was the same thing. We have a Z. I mean, Z was very skilled. He just. He couldn't guard people. We'll have to see if he's going to be able to guard people. I don't know the answer.

[Ryan]

Yellow, which does the one thing at the four Pope once and in the corner and hit shots.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I think he plays the five. If we. If we play.

I think he does.
