This is Kentucky sports Radio presented by Stockton mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
A
Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday, October 9th. I'm Matt Jones here at the KS Bar and Grill. Another beautiful October day heading into big blue madness and a bye weekend in football. You can give us a shout the Clark's pump and shop phone line. We're gonna make this an ask anything Thursday.
C
Okay.
A
So much to talk about the last couple days. Want to hear from you I or the text machine. You can ask anything you want. 772-774-5254. And then that's a text machine and the number is 859-280-2287. I'm going to take calls start in the second segment. So give us a shout Clark's pumping shop phone line. And then this edition sponsored by the TJ Smith law office. You call tjl, make them pay. Drew is off. His wife's brother is getting married, correct?
C
That's right.
A
And so he is in Colorado. And I've got Ryan. We're gonna have Mario sit with us. Mario, how are you, sir?
D
I'm good. How you doing?
A
And then Shannon is in Louisville. Got a lot of stuff to get to Ryan and excited to have you here.
C
He's like our little son. We're just watching him blossom right in front of our eyes.
A
He loves saying that. Why do you like saying that?
C
I just.
A
He's a grown man. Don't him.
C
He. He had that little smile like he was 12 years old. He's so happy to be here today. Just like my little son sitting right there, proud of him.
A
Yes, well, he's not your son. He's a grown man. We've got folks here from Russell Springs, Lexington. Where are you all from? Lawrenceburg. So all over. And you can come in, have lunch, try our new burger, wings, etc. Thursday Night Football tonight, guys. Yesterday we taped the COVID zero podcast. Went home. I watched a lot of baseball last night. Yeah, I was. I was pulling for the Blue Jays, Vlad. And they won. They've moved on. You got the other series all I think we got Some game fives coming up. So exciting stuff for you baseball nerds.
C
I love it.
A
I know.
C
Shannon and I, we talk about it. We will try to watch the baseball games. I get the Phillies and Dodgers game last night. The. Both those teams are so good. Those are like two of the best teams going. One Phillies killed them last night.
A
Okay, so that series is still going.
C
Still going. Yeah.
A
Okay, so tonight you got a lot of good stuff, right? You got game four of Cubs, brewers, you got Phillies, Dodgers and you got Thursday Night Football. That's a. That's a big set of games. We'll have all of them here at the bar. That. That's a good. That's a good set of things to watch.
C
Who the Giants Eagles tonight.
A
Giants Eagles, which is not bad. Jackson. Jackson Dart. Were you watching Bronnie play in the preseason? No, I didn't.
D
I seen his clips on. I seen some of his highlights on social media though.
A
So. By the way, you should know that for Mario, his player is Jasper Johnson.
C
Oh, yeah.
A
He's more excited about Jasper Johnson than anybody. Like when in the, in the little pro day in every time Jackson, Jasper Johnson gets the ball, he says like, okay, here we go. All right, are you ready? Here we go. Like, he's more pro Jasper Johnson then. I'm like that with Jalen Lowe though, so I can't get at him, but he's like that.
C
Would you know the clip that the UK Twitter account, UK basketball Twitter account put out had like maybe nine buckets in it and Jasper Johnson had two threes back to back in.
A
Like they only two shots he hit the whole day.
C
Well, they showed him.
A
I think he was good getting the selective picking there. Do you? It was interesting. There was an NBA scout yesterday that spoke to KSR that talked about his view of the practice and he said that this year's Kentucky basketball team is like Noah's Ark. We have two of everything.
C
Good line.
A
Which I think there's a lot of truth to that. He also said there's going to be one or two guys that end up getting left out. There's just too many people. So this is what I meant. I wanted to ask, say there's one guy and I'm not talking Reese Potter and I'm not even talking Yellow Vich or Hawthorne. Right. So those guys, let's just assume those guys don't get big time but minutes of the other guys because they're not going to play 10 consistently. They'll go eight or nine. That's what, that's what Pope seems to do. He's not going to go 10. He'll probably go eight or nine of the other 10, who do you think is most likely to be the one that gets the least minutes of the of the next 10? So plays six minutes or eight minutes a game instead of 14.
D
What do you think that is so tough.
A
But you got to pick one. Who's it going to be? And let's say Quaintance is playing. This include when Clayton's is on the court. So when he is one of the.
D
Guys, I want to say Cam Williams, but I don't.
A
Why would you say him?
D
Well, it's that four spot's kind of weird because you got. You got Trent Noah who can play the four a little bit. You know, Cam Williams can play the four, and then you got Mo Diabatte. So I'm a little worried about how do you like, spread the minutes between those three.
A
So it's gonna be Cam Williams.
D
Yeah, but Cam.
A
There's no but. You have to have an answer. You can't cover all your bases.
D
I feel like it just depends on who they play, man.
A
Well, you still have to pick one.
D
You know what I mean? Like they might need Cam for. Because Camp can shoot the three. That's the thing.
A
Gonna be. I'm gonna go with Cam. All right. What about you?
C
I feel like it's gonna be Malachi or Jasper just because. And I'm leaning towards Jasper just because they are so loaded at guard.
A
You think there's a chance Jasper's the one that does it. I don't like that. I don't like that.
D
I mean, I feel like he's gonna play a little bit. He has to play low.
C
Otega, Aberdeen and Colin Chandler are probably all four ahead of him right now.
D
So you got Aberdeen too. So.
C
Yeah.
A
So you're gonna have Jasper Johnson. That's. I mean, that's a Jasper Johnson. I don't know what people are making for sure on the team. Again, this is just a guess. I have not heard real numbers on what people are making, but I would. I would guess that Jasper Johnson is the third or fourth highest paid player on the team.
C
Wow.
A
And so you think I would say Ortega Away and. And Jalen Lower, the two highest paid players on the team. Would you agree with that?
D
That's believable.
A
I think those are probably the two highest paid players. I would say Jasper Johnson is next.
C
Yeah.
A
And you think he's not going to play?
C
They're just. They're just so loaded at guard. I mean, they're just like we just mentioned, Otega Low, Aberdeen, those three guys may start. Colin Chandler is going to probably play ahead of him. So.
A
And by the way, I think the reason those two guys are the highest paid, Ortega gets the money kind of for returning and being good. And then I think Jalen Lowe. There was not that many point guards out in the Portal this year that were really good. And so I think it was a. It was a seller's market.
C
Yeah.
A
In that. And so I think that worked well for J. For Jaylen. Whereas a guy like Williams or Aberdeen or even Diabate, there were more guys like that. You had more choices. Whereas with point guards, there were really only five or six really good ones out there in the portal, so.
C
Well, they've done it two years in a row. Went out and got Lamont Butler, who was perfect last year, and, man, I think Lowell will be perfect again this year.
A
Shannon, which one do you think is unlikely to play?
B
Unfortunately, I really like this guy with him being from Kentucky, but I think Malachi Moreno is heard the least about freshman. I think Brandon Garrison is going to eat up a lot of minutes at that position. So I could see him maybe getting six or seven, maybe eight a game, but not much more than that.
A
So my answer has changed.
C
Yeah.
A
So if you asked me that answer before I went to South Africa, the answer would have probably been Trent Noah. And then I had people tell me, you're wrong.
C
Yeah.
A
Like people around the program like, he's going to play. He's. He's going to get. He won't start, but he'll get like solid seventh man minutes. So then my answer was going to be Malachi Moreno. And then I saw it and I think he's. I think especially until Jaden Quaint plays.
C
Yep.
A
I think he's going to play. And now my answer is probably the same as Mario's. It's going to be Cam Williams. And the scout said that, too. The scout said, look, he's got the highest floor ceiling of any player. He has a chance to, if he consistently hits threes, be a first round draft pick in the NBA draft.
C
Yeah, A lot of mock drafts have him drafted the first round.
A
He also has a chance to not play at all if he's not hitting threes. So, like, I don't think Mario was wrong. If he's hitting threes, dude's going to play. And we'll be saying goodbye to him in May and watching him go to the draft if he doesn't hit threes. You can see that in Pro day, you can I listen, I'm, I'm pulling for the kid. He seems like a really nice guy, but he was the least impressive on the court. But when I was watching him warm up, he did not miss.
C
Yeah.
A
So when they put him in the game, it will be. Does he hit the shot or not?
C
During, you know, this summer, when the TBT guy scrimmaged him, several of them said Cam Williams was the best shooter on the team, better than Kobe Braya.
A
Last year, they had a little thing up there that showed who had made the most threes in the month of October. Now, granted, this is misleading because it's like you don't know how many they shot. Right. This is just how many went in.
C
Gotcha.
A
And Trent know was first. And Cam Williams was saying.
C
Yeah.
A
Which might have been what people would have guessed. That means A, they're taking a lot of shots and B, they're. They're missing them. 859-280-2287. I want to switch gears for a second, talk about the football stuff. So I was on Ari, Andy and Ari, which is a show, a college football podcast on, on three. I was on my way to a doctor's appointment, so I had to. I had to do it in the car. I think I made them nervous, but I just, I didn't hold the phone. I set it on my. I saw it. Helen. You set it on my dash and drove. I think it was fine there. Everybody. Everybody was all worried. It's fine.
C
It is kind of a weird look. I could pull up that clip and he's driving.
D
You can see like the background is going like.
A
Well, because I was driving. That's exactly what I was doing.
B
Put your phone down.
A
I did put my phone down. It was on the dash. I wasn't holding it. But I was asked about the $37 million and what we said on, on, on the show. And, you know, I said that I think if we get to the point, the money will be there. And I don't know if you saw that led to a huge discussion nationally about buyouts. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an article coming out soon, nationally about just the idea of paying these buyouts. I think I kind of, when I said it, said it without asking your opinion. Ryan, you. There's a lot of things you talk about that I don't think you know about, but you do know about the Lexington social scene and money and donors. You kind of. You operate in those high. Didn't say you were part of Them. I just said you operated in them. Do you think if they. If. Mitch. If they go 3 and 9 or 4 and 8 and Mark Stoop says, like in Wolf of Wall Street, I ain't leaving. Do you think they could come up with the $37 million to tell him? See you later?
C
Lexington seems like it's a small town. It's a very rich town. There's a lot of money in this town, and a lot of guys don't flaunt it. You won't even know it, but there's enough money to give me a few of those people. I'm gonna give it to myself.
A
Shannon, I. Wouldn't you like to know a few of the people that don't flaunt it.
B
Yeah, those Ryan's hanging out with.
A
Yeah, that's exactly. That's. That's exactly right. Ryan's in the speakeasy with all the people with a lot of money. Maybe you're one of them.
B
No, that's your door dash.
C
But to answer your qu. Yeah, that's how.
A
That's how he hides it.
C
He.
A
Door dash isn't that way. People don't know, but go ahead.
C
So, to answer your question, I think, yeah, absolutely, they could get that money. They could buy him out. They need to.
A
Do you like, how easy is it? You think it's like they. Well, let's put it another way. A, how easy is it? B, do you think it's already been talked about?
C
I think I would. I don't know. I'm guessing yes. I think it has to be talked about. Coming off the last two seasons we've had here, I think those conversations are already underway.
A
You do?
C
I do.
A
One of the thoughts I had said for a long time and believed was, look, Mark Stoops is friends with a lot of these big donors. They're not going to try to. To. To do whatever to get rid of somebody that they're friends with. Do you think his friends. Because a lot of these people are his friends.
C
Yeah.
A
Do you think his friends would buy him out?
C
I think they would have a conversation, and I think they would feel good about it knowing that. I think Stoops would be happy with it. I think. I think Stoop's gonna be about to get the point man. You pay my buyout. I'm ready to walk away.
A
What are the chances? He just says, deal with it. All right, so let's say they say, forget about 37 million. We'll do it for 25. What are the chances at that point, Mark Stoops. Would say, well, then I guess I'm coaching next year.
C
Probably pretty high. He seems to be pretty set. Look.
A
So you think. You think he would stay here and coach even if he didn't really want.
C
To, to get that extra. To get.
A
Pick the amount of money, probably.
C
What do you think?
A
I totally agree with you.
C
Yeah.
A
And I was hoping you had a different opinion.
C
No, I think he was going to hold his guns, like, nope. We signed this deal. We agreed to this deal. This is what you owe me.
A
You know, like, take. Take someone like Shannon. Okay. Shannon I would not call stingy or, like, selfish, but if Shannon's old money, Shannon's going to get every.
C
Shannon is old money. That's right.
A
When you. When you split, is that fair to.
B
Say, Shannon, we had an agreement. That's the agreement.
C
You. No, I agree.
A
Like, if Shan. If you go out to eat with Shannon and you're splitting the check and Your part is $18, Shannon is not taking $16. Or if he only takes 16, he's going to remember in the back of your mind that you owe him $2.
B
That's right.
A
That's Shannon.
C
Yeah.
A
I think Mark Stoops is like that, don't you?
C
I actually, I do think he's like that. And I think he still kind of realizes, hey, man, I built this program. We went to eras we've never gone to before.
A
I think that's a big part. Yeah, that's a big part of it is he believes, like, come on.
C
Yeah. I'm almost owed this.
A
You see what I did here?
C
Yeah. You won 10 games two times.
A
I agree with you.
C
I think he thinks that. Yeah, I think that's going to be hard for him to get past. That's why I think, look, you owe me this money. I've earned this money. I deserve this money. Pay me my money.
A
Yeah, well, 859-280-2287 is Ask Anything Thursday. If you have any questions about all that. I still say, though, that schedule, which is very hard, don't get me wrong. But I want you to think about when we looked at the schedule at the beginning of the year and we looked at this next set of games. Texas is unranked right now. We thought they were going to be number one in the country. They're unranked. Tennessee is. Is ranked. Florida's not as good as we thought. Vandy and Auburn are kind of what we thought they'd be. And Louisville might not be as good as we thought.
C
Yeah.
A
So the schedule, it's not as bad as we thought. I still don't know that we're going to win any of those games, but it's not as bad as we thought.
C
The Texas game, the Louisville game, I didn't think were winnable. Now they are a little winnable.
A
You think Texas is winnable?
C
They're kind of struggling right now.
A
I saw his look right there. Russell Springs. You don't think Texas is winnable, do you? I don't think. What do you think the spread of that game will be?
C
Who?
A
Yeah, that's what I was going to say. Fourteen and a half. Fifteen. I think that's. I think that's probably what it's going to be. 859-280-2287 Text Machine 772-774-5254 we'll take a break, be right back. Here at KS Bar and Grill, it's Kentucky Sports Radio.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280228. He said we were just talking about the UK Football sched schedule in the in the future. You know Ryan, it came out our three while I was gone. Our three regular opponents will be South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. I was hoping for South Carolina, Tennessee and Vandy. Yes. But what was more interesting to me is how the schedule gets divided. We're going to have an every other year schedule. Like we play a lot of the bad teams in the same year and a lot of the good teams. So yeah, I think we have Alabama, lsu, LSU and Georgia the same year. And then the next year we get like Missouri, Mississippi State, Nole Miss. So I actually prefer it like that, to be honest with you. So you have a chance once every two years to actually win some games.
C
Yeah, those home games in 2026 against LSU and Alabama are road games in 2028.
A
2028, if I, if I'm correct, looks like the hardest.
C
It was ridiculous. It was super hard.
A
I. If we get a new coach, tell them year three. It's going to. It's good. It's gonna be really difficult. What are you doing?
C
I'm trying to find that schedule. I saved it somewhere. Now I can't find.
D
No, you don't have it, Ryan.
C
You know, I got it somewhere.
A
859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-774-5254. By the way, Mario, who you haven't talked about, who stuck out the most to you in the pro day?
D
Jasper Johnson, number one. And then Malachi. Malachi Marino was.
C
He loves Jasper Johnson.
A
Love Jennifer Johnson. I just like the way he's number. He's number one. Malachi Moreno, though. I'm with you. He was. He probably stood out to me more than anybody because he's so much better than I remember.
D
I watched him last year in high school at Great Cross and went to a few of his games. Yeah, I was a little worried about.
A
Like, you were worried about him last year. You said to me last year that you didn't know he could play here. I, I am impressed by how much that. How much better that kid's got.
C
I am so proud of that kid because I've seen him since, like, seventh grade. And he developed where he was playing his absolute best basketball and great crossing made the sweet 16. He just started dominating. Like, he hadn't done that up to that point, but he finally. The light bulb went off his head or something, and it started dominating. He was the best player on the court during all 16.
A
A lot of you listening probably went to the sweet 16 to see that line County, Harlan county year with Travis Perry and Trent Noah. And if you did, you probably saw, I think Lyon county beat Scott, beat Great Crossing. Then like the semifinal.
C
That sounds right. Yeah.
A
So you may have gone to that game and Moreno was back bad in that game. That was part of what people. Because that was part of what people were saying is like, how do we not have Trent Noah? Remember at that point, he wasn't coming here.
C
Correct. He's going to South Carolina.
A
South Carolina. How do we not have Trent Noah and we have Marie, if that's the last time you saw the kid. Be excited about what you're about to see. Yeah, it's a different kid.
C
It is.
A
It's a completely different kid.
C
That game you're talking about, where they got beat by Lyon county, he was probably the third best player on their own team. Not last year. He dominated. He was the best player. He's come a long way because he's worked hard at. He's a good kid, good family.
A
Yeah.
C
I'm happy for him.
A
Tomorrow, by the way, we're at Wild Eggs in Hamburg.
C
Correct.
A
Wild Eggs and Hamburg. We always have great food. They usually have a lot of good deals. It's a good chance to come see us tomorrow. Shannon will be up here. We'll have a good time.
C
You know, we did show at Wild Eggs and Tate's Creek when you were gone. Shannon went to this one in Hamburg.
A
By mistake first, and then he got there to take.
B
Somehow go to, though.
A
Then I didn't go to. Well, I'm looking forward to tomorrow. That's my. That's one of my favorite shows because we get to eat. All right, who's up first? Ask Anything Thursday.
B
Who's Michael?
A
Michael. Go ahead, Michael.
F
First time, long time.
A
Who are.
F
So I went down to the volleyball game last night at Reed arena in College Station, Texas.
A
Yes.
F
And do. The environment there was pretty crazy. The whole lower arena was filled. Student section was going crazy. And that game was just amazing to be at.
A
So for people who don't know, Kentucky's women's volleyball team won yesterday against another top 10 win.
C
Yeah, they were. They were ninth in the country, right? I think so.
A
They. Now that is their fourth top 10 win of the year so far. And they were able to get the win. So again, Kentucky's win, they're what, ranked third in the country and another big win on the road at A and M yesterday. What's your question?
F
No question. Just wanted to say that. And I was also. Well, I'm about to get to class.
C
Yeah.
F
Andrew.
C
Yeah.
F
And Drew is telling, or Billy and Drew are telling me that I should call in about it.
A
Oh, okay. Well, I appreciate the call. Well, I'm glad you enjoyed the game and good luck at class. You ever been to a game in College Station?
C
Never have.
A
No.
C
I wanted to go down there when the football team played down there. Didn't make it. You've been down there?
A
I went to what year it was. We beat them in basketball on the road. I want to say it was Antonio Reeves, junior year with Kellen. No, he wasn't on that. It was The Kellen Grady team. Okay, so the Kellen Grady team. That wasn't Antonio Reeves. Kellen Grady. We beat them down there. You may remember. We got down a bunch early and then came back and sort of shut up the arena. And that was a. It was a good, maybe our best win of the year that year. I was at it and that arena was wild. They do their stupid things with their guys dressed up as sailors. But put that aside, it's still a very cool environment.
C
I found the schedule for next year and we're at Texas A and M next year.
A
Okay, so read me a schedule next year.
C
In football, the home games are Florida, Alabama, LSU and Vanderbilt. The five road games at South Carolina, at Tennessee, at Missouri, at A and M, win at Oklahoma. Okay. John Short.
A
Actually, that's a doable road sketch.
C
Yeah, it is.
A
Read those road games again.
C
South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, A and M and Oklahoma.
A
Yeah, I mean, but the problem with that schedule next year is the. Well, we'll definitely win that game. There aren't many of them on. That's true. All right, now read me 2027.
C
Home games are South Carolina, Tennessee.
A
Gotcha.
C
Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State.
A
See, that's. Those are all games with the exception of Georgia. You could go into the year thinking you could win.
C
Yeah.
A
And what are the road games?
C
At Florida, at Arkansas, at Ole Miss, at Texas.
A
That is a very doable.
C
Much better than 2026 for the SEC.
A
Can we just fast forward to 2027?
C
Amen.
A
If you. If I'm a new. If I was a new coach coming in here next year, I'd be building to 2027, wouldn't you?
C
Yes.
A
That is a schedule you could do something with. Ask anything. Thursday. We'll take a break. Be right back.
C
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj. He'll make him pay.
B
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
A
Mark Soup's gonna be walking in like Shane Omac.
C
That's right.
A
Potentially with this fly in. Yeah, but you know about wwe. Shannon is in Perth. I think Max is going. You know, Max lives in Perth.
C
Oh, really?
A
Yeah, he went. All this stuff he picked up in Kentucky. Max Duffy went and saw Tyler Childers in Perth and I think he's going to the WB in Perth as well.
C
How's he doing? Is he doing coaching? What's he doing?
A
Up to now he really only writes me about like UK football and then random things we, we laugh about over the years. So I, I have. We haven't. I haven't Gotten to talk to him about, like, if. I think he's fine. He's coaching, he's doing. He's working with the group that sends Australian punters to America. So I do think we have an in on getting all the best punters because the organization that sets all those guys up to come punt in America, I think he's now going and working for them.
C
Well, he's got to be happy with Aiden Laross. The dude has been great punter this year. He made a big tackle to last game. He did not have that zero rating in his toughness.
A
One person writes text machine. It's ask anything Thursday. Paying a football coach $37 million to go away is preposterous. I wouldn't do it on principle. I mean, I don't disagree with you. It is preposterous. It is a bad principle. At the same time, what else you gonna do? Cut off your nose to spot your face? I mean, like, you can't.
C
Yeah.
D
If you want them gone that baddie, this is what you got to do.
A
And you made the deal. I mean, first of all, it's not your money. Secondly, Mitch made the deal. I mean, you won't be mad at Mitch. Then you can be mad at Mitch. I think that's completely reasonable. But, like, there's a contract.
C
The UK football program brings in a lot more than 37 million a year. It's a valuable moneymaker for the entire university's athletic budget. It's football. It's why you have to be successful.
A
One person writes. Matt, I'd like to ask Mario. He's worked with you guys for over a year now. What does he think about every member of the group?
D
You want me to go, like, person by person?
A
Yeah. Start with Shannon. What do you think about Shannon?
D
Shannon's. I love Shannon, man. He's very blunt. He doesn't change his opinion, no matter what it is. That's what I really love about Shann and Ryan Lemon. He's the goofy out the group, but he's inconsistent. He's definitely inconsistent, but he's.
C
He's genuine.
D
And he's probably one of the. He's probably the nicest one out the.
A
Group, I would say.
D
Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, funny guy. If you're on the road with him, stay away from him because he. He likes to party a lot, but he's. He's a good dude.
A
Overall. I love.
D
I love me some Drew. Billy Rutledge. Billy doesn't get talked about a lot.
A
He's.
D
Billy's actually a cool Dude, I love hanging out with Billy.
A
What did Shannon say?
B
You say you don't get. He doesn't get talked about a lot. I said, that's for good reason.
D
And then Matt. Matt is the.
C
The.
D
The glue that holds it together. He doesn't get enough credit as it is. And I think when he leaves you, you really get to see, like, how important he is. So that.
C
That's.
D
That's my thing.
A
Have you enjoyed the job? Duh.
C
This is.
D
This is the best job in the world.
A
This is.
D
This is what I've been praying for. This is like, I want to make do content creation full time, and I'm doing it now, so.
C
Yeah, I'm loving the job.
A
Oh, well, that's very nice.
C
He's gonna be our boss someday.
D
Stop saying what Matt. He says that to everybody.
A
Why do you say that? You think they're gonna just make us all work for him?
C
Yep. He's gonna grow up and be so big, powerful, successful. He'll hire me someday. He'll be my boss someday.
A
That's nice. One person writes, Matt, when you discuss the football schedule, you talk about the bad teams, which is fair. How do you think other teams talk about us? Guaranteed win? I mean, when they look at the schedule, they go win without. I mean, we know that, though, right?
C
Every team in the SEC puts a big W by Kentucky when that schedule comes out. Every single team.
A
Yeah. One person writes, matt, rate these three opponents in order of who you want to beat the Most this year. St. John's Louisville, Arkansas.
C
What a great question.
A
St. John's is last. Like, I'd like to beat St. John's but, I mean, I don't. Like, I. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I don't hold any ill will towards Rick now. I mean, I.
C
He.
A
Since he's been at. Since he's been to Louisville, he's coached in Greece, he's coached at iona, he's coached St. John's like, I'm good. Like, I want to beat him, but if he beats us. What. I mean, I was pulling for him last year when they played Arkansas and in the tournament. Louisville and Arkansas tough both road games.
C
Beat you at rough last year.
A
Louisville's probably gonna be better than Arkansas this year. I'm gonna say I want to beat. But Louisville's at the beginning of the year.
C
That stinks, too.
A
And I'm gonna say I want to beat Arkansas more just because Louisville's at the beginning. It's in November, and so, like, it's not going to really matter. Whereas Arkansas could be a game that decides whether or not we win the SEC this year, honestly. And we lost to him last year. So I'm going to say Arkansas one, Louisville two, St. John's three. What about you?
C
I think if the Louisville game was in a different spot, the fact that it's early in the season, I'm going to lean with you. I'm going to go Arkansas 1, Louisville 2, St. John's 3. Just because Arkansas beat us at Rup.
D
Yeah.
A
Any game in November is. I mean, remember, we lost by like. Didn't we lose by like 25 to Ohio State last year?
D
Yeah, in the Garden.
A
In the Garden. Like. Like, I don't know that games in November. I mean, the Duke thing was awesome, but I don't know, the losses don't stick with me as much in November.
C
Second week in November and you're playing on a Tuesday night.
A
Louisville, though.
B
So you want to be always going to be number one. I don't care if they play the game in July. Louisville is always going to be number one.
A
So you would rather beat Louisville than Arkansas?
B
Of course. I mean, if Louisville's good, you want to beat them. If they're really bad, you don't want to lose to a really bad rival. So I think it's always lovable. Arkansas, number two. St. John's number three.
D
Going Arkansas. We lost to them last year and that was a bad feeling, man. I got. I'm going Arkansas. Arkansas, top of the list. We got to get him back. Revenge.
C
That's the only reason I don't give Mark Pope an A plus, because they lost to Arkansas at Rupp Arena, Cal's first trip back. You got to win that.
A
Yeah. No, if we beat him last year, I don't think I would care.
C
I'm with you.
A
If we had beaten them last year, then I would be like, all right, Louisville. Yeah. And then North Carolina. For me, honestly, I'd rather beat North Carolina than St. John's like St. John's I don't. I mean, do you all consider that, like, a big rivalry? It's a neutral court game. I mean, I want to beat them, but I don't. I'm gonna be upset if we lose to St. John's North Carolina's here at 9:30 at night on a Tuesday. I want to win that game, you know?
C
Yeah. The St. John's game is just because the guy's sitting on the bench over there. That's it. And the St. John's logo doesn't mean anything to Any of us. It's just Patino sitting over there.
A
Who's next?
B
Brian.
A
Brian. Go ahead, Brian. Hey, good morning, everybody. Good morning.
F
Listen, I. I know that $37 million.
A
Is a lot of money, but I.
F
Was thinking about this with Caliperi years ago, and now I'm thinking about it with Mark.
C
Yes.
F
What if he stays just for the money? But this is a motivated and creative fan base, and if they decide they don't like Mark Stoops, it's not just booing him when his name is called.
C
What they.
F
They bought billboards to get people.
A
Yeah, but see, I don't want to do that. I mean, I don't.
F
I don't say I want to do it. I'm just saying it's gonna happen.
A
So let me go back to Cal for a second. I appreciate the call. When Cal. When it looked like he was going to come back, the thought of that year, when it looked like he was going to come back, was miserable to me because I was like, I don't want to have a situation where our fans and the coach have animosity towards each other. Like, there's nothing good that comes out of that. So if Stoops were to come back and people were just, like, making it miserable over the course of the year, I mean, there's nothing good that comes out of that. Right.
C
You know, we've used the word a lot. When Cal Perry's end of his run was. We were a fractured fan base. We're getting to that point here in football. You know, we're a fractured fan base. We're. We're on a separation.
A
I don't think we're fractured.
C
Think everybody's all on board.
A
Everybody wants a change.
D
Yeah.
A
No, I'm serious. With Cal, there was still a loud minority of people that liked in the stadium, right? They were very loud. I don't think that exists now.
D
Mario, do you know, I think Stoops, everybody. I haven't met somebody that really wants him to stay.
A
I mean, do any of you. I've seen one. I mean, we. I guess at that show the other day, we had two people say they wanted him to stay out of, like, 150 at Shady Rays.
C
I. I wish it would work. I would love for him to be our coach, but it's just not.
A
Okay. So let's talk about. Let's. Let me give you a scenario, see if this would change anybody's mind. He wins one of Texas in Tennessee. All right? Wins one of them big.
C
Both are at home.
A
Wins one of Vandy Auburn. Okay.
C
Yeah.
A
Beats Louisville fan base back. Six wins, goes to a ball.
B
Okay. We're so many beats Tennessee Tech.
A
So many beats Tennessee Tech. Six wins, goes to a bowl. Is the fan base back? Are they like I am? I mean, yeah, I am too. I'm back.
C
If he's able to pull that off somehow.
B
Oh, absolutely. It just goes to show you, one or two games here or there can determine they could change your entire thoughts on, on a coach and whether he should stay or not.
A
I think there'll still be a big chunk of the fan base that wouldn't be back, but there'd be enough of them back that you, if you're, if you're Mitch Barnhart, you definitely would bring him back.
C
Yeah. And you got a couple big wins. You beat Louisville and you beat Tennessee.
B
Or Texas wins this year. If you get the six you have exceeded.
A
Okay. Let's say not Tennessee or Texas. Let's say you lose Tennessee and Texas. So you're now two and five. But then you beat Florida.
C
Yeah.
A
And then you beat Vandy or Auburn and then you beat Louisville.
C
That's still six. I'm still. I'm back. I mean that's just me. I don't know how long the fan base will be, but I would be excited about. They were turning around.
A
You think Florida, Vandy, Louisville keeps your.
C
Job just getting six wins.
A
Okay. What if it's just Vandy and Louisville?
C
You got five wins.
A
Five wins.
C
Like you said, that's the worst case scenario. That's. That is the worst. Worst case scenario.
A
And something that could easily happen. You beat Vandy. Remember Vandy Los. Two games of the year. So you go into those games two and eight or. Excuse me, you go into those games three and seven. But then you beat Vandy and Louisville in the last.
B
That sounds like momentum to me. You went too straight. That's a winning streak. You can't fire a coach on a winning streak.
C
It's clumentum.
A
Yeah, that would be. That would be the worst scenario. Go in three and seven and then go beat Vandy on the road and go beat Louisville. That would be the worst.
C
Not crazy. So what happens if that. If that plays out that way for another year?
A
Misery. No, I mean, because I don't think Mitch Barnhart would fire him in that scenario. Do you?
C
I don't think he would. But what would our fan base.
A
We'd be on a three game winning streak. Tennessee Tech with Bandy and Louisville and maybe.
C
Maybe Cutter Bowley has awesome games. Those last games. So are your future good for next year.
A

Welcome back Tech E Sports Radio. Hey, I want to tell everybody something that you might be interested in on Monday. The UK School of Public Policy is doing the Wendell Ford Lecture Series and it's on nil. So for those of you who wonder like what the future of NIL is, it's open to the public. It's they're having a person from the Knight Commission. They're the people setting the rules. They're having an attorney who represented a lot of the players in their lawsuit and then Mark Story, the Herald Leader, talking about how it affects Kentucky and I am the moderator. Oh nice. So I'm gonna have to wear a suit. But so that is Monday at 5:30 at the Kentucky Singletary center for the Arts. This is like an expert panel if you've ever not me, but the MO but the people on it. And if you've ever wondered like where's college sports going? I think this is like as good a group as you could get. 5:30 at UK they have like 300 seats in the auditorium so make sure to get there early. But at the window it's the Wendell Ford lecture series at the Singletary center for the Arts, and I'm the moderator for it, so that should be exciting.
C
Would there be a streaming availability?
A
I don't think it's streaming that I know of. If it is, I'll send the link. Yeah, but I, I don't. I. I don't think so.
C
So you already got your list of questions ready to go?
A
I'm gonna work on it this weekend. I was in a meeting with everybody. I kind of know what's on going. That's what everybody does. The. The. But it's a. It looks like a good group and I think it'll be. It'll be very interesting. 859280, 2287. Who's next?
B
Shannon Dalton.
A
Dalton. Go ahead, Dalton.
F
Matt, you're such a proficient linguist. When you said Ryan operates in those circles, I knew exactly what you meant. Like blowing leaves or parking cars.
A
That's not what I mean. Ryan's hanging out in all their clubs. I can't even get into those clubs. Right.
C
Secret.
A
Yeah. Yeah.
F
I've got an interesting thing on the buyouts. Listening to you this morning. So, I mean, it is. It is ridiculous that they have all these. These huge price tags to not work, but when you're getting that coach and you get that contract, you put that in there in fear of he gets good and somebody with big stuff.
A
That's exactly right. That's why you do it.
F
But on the opposite, when they're not doing good, well, nobody's going to give you that money, so you got to get rid of it.
A
Correct.
F
With the nil dollars and more. The Rev share. Right. Isn't in Barnhart allocating 12, 13, $14 million a year. Yeah, you just stop giving Mark Stoops that Rev share money.
A
Yeah, but again, somebody suggested that yesterday. But why do you want to do. Why do you want to do that? I mean, why do you want to make it to where. I mean, you're. Let's say you make a decision that you have to. Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on.
C
1.
A
Let's say you have to make the decision to bring Mark Stoops back. Why in the world would you want to make it to where he doesn't have a team? What good does that do?
F
What you tell. You tell him that some of those dollars that are going to the football program are leaving, and maybe he can negotiate that out of his buyout.
A
Yeah, but why would you do that? You're just cutting off your. You're just cutting off Your nose to spite your face. What is the point of if you have to bring him back, putting a horrible team around him? Like what? Who does that help?
F
And if he wants to still coach, how does that help him?
A
Because he's still getting. Well, I can tell you that. Here's the answer. It helps him because he's still getting his money. Right. So, I mean, I appreciate the call. Let's use that scenario where you say, okay, if you're coming back, we're taking the money we would have had to pay you out of the rev share. Well, what are you doing there? Well, you're guaranteeing our football team will stink.
C
Trash.
A
And guess what? Mark Stoops gets a lot of money. The same money. So Mark Stoops gets something. What do we get out of that? Nothing. Nothing.
C
We don't get football team, we don't get players. We don't get a coach to replace. We don't know what coach wants to come replace Mark Stoops for that.
A
What fans want to go to the games. So you may have made a principle that makes you feel good. Yeah, big boy. If you come back, you're not going to have money for players. But all you've done is hurt yourself. He's still getting his money in that scenario. So that to me is the worst idea. If you bring him back, you have to try to have a good team. Why would you not?
C
Like we said, SEC football is the biggest money maker on every campus. This supports the whole athletic budget. You have to be successful.
A
And that's also true. Coaches would be like, well, so that's how you treat your coaches?
C
Yeah.
A
Is that you?
C
No coach is going to come replace him.
A
Give them no players when things don't go well.
C
No players, no money.
A
Yeah, I don't think works. Who's next?
B
Rob.
A
Rob. Go ahead, Rob.
F
Hey guys, hope you're having a good morning. I got a quick basketball question and a quick football question, if you don't mind.
A
Yes.
F
So given that Tyron Stokes birthday is Sunday, do you. Do you think that it's possible that he could commit Saturday at Big Blue Madness?
A
Well, there's been a lot of people. So Tyron Stokes, number one player in the country, there's been a lot of people who believe he might commit tomorrow. I don't know what it is about tomorrow. His birthday is Sunday. Big Blue Madness is Saturday. There are people in his camp who he's not taking any more visits. So I mean, I think if you were to place money on it, you would say this weekend is the most likely time it would happen. It would be the biggest commitment for Kentucky in probably a decade if he were to do it. So, I mean, it's a big deal. I don't think it'll have anything to do with Big Blue Madness. I think it would probably have to do with his personal life and when he does it. Got you.
F
Gotcha. Okay, football question is, if. If somehow an undefeated Tennessee Tech team comes into Croaker Field and beats Mark Stoops, is that. Is that the straw that suits back?
A
I mean, if you lost Tennessee Tech. I appreciate the call. If you lost Tennessee Tech, you probably fire him right after the game, right? That would be a scenario. That'd be the only scenario where I could. Could see that you would let him go mid season is if you lost.
B
But what if you had just beaten Texas and Tennessee but lose, you don't.
A
Fire them then actually that would be the worst scenario. Beat Texas and Tennessee, but then lose to Tennessee Tech, Vandy and Louisville back to back to end the season to finish five.
B
You could almost see something crazy like that happening. Maybe not beat both of them, but maybe. Maybe beat Tennessee, but lose to Tennessee Tech.
A
That would be the worst because you would be five and seven, but have lost. All you had to do is beat Tennessee Tech to go to a bowl and then you lost.
C
And apparently Tennessee Tech is good. They're scoring like 60 points a game. They're like really good.
A
Tennessee Tech is undefeated. We're going to be like. We. Come on. You don't really think we're going to lose to them.
D
Don't jinx it.
B
I mean, they're playing like Charleston Southern, Western Illinois, Tennessee State.
A
We're beating them. I don't want to. I don't want to hear these bad thoughts. Who's next?
B
Let's go to Hunter.
A
Hunter, you got 30 seconds. Go ahead.
F
Well, first off, it's great to hear from you guys. Especially great to hear from Mario.
D
Thank you, man.
F
You know, chiming in. So the quick question that I asked, I mean, everyone's talking about the coach and new coach, but what happens about trying to keep Cutter bully? Like, if he keeps playing well, all these other SEC teams are going to try to go after him.
A
Well, you know what I mean, it happens. Look, if you got to make a coaching change, if that makes you lose a quarterback, so be it. I mean, the coach is more important than the quarterback in that instance. We'll take a break, come back hour number two.
