This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday, October 16th. I'm Matt Jones here at the KS Bar and Grill on another beautiful fall day in, well, not Louisville in Lex, you can come and see us for lunch. We've got a couple here already from Henry County, Kentucky. They said the best restaurant there is called our best. It's a good name for a restaurant in a county. If you're going to say, all right, what's the best restaurant in the county? It's in the name. Right?
Drew
If I'm, if I'm googling where to eat there, I know exactly where I'm.
Matt Jones
Going to the best one. So you can give us shout the Clark's puppet Shop phone line 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-5254. In this edition sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office, if you call TJ, he'll make them pay. Come out and see us today. We've got, we're going to be here for lunch. And then tonight is Bingle Steelers. Adam Sandler is in town. Are you, are you a big Adam Sandler fan?
Drew
I like his movies. You know, might sing the Hanukkah song a little bit. But I won't be making my way over to Rupp. I like him.
Matt Jones
You wouldn't even go to Rupp to see, to see Adam Sandler. I mean, he's one of the biggest stars in America.
Drew
Nothing to do. And you handed me tickets. I would go, but I mean, I'm not going to go out.
Matt Jones
You were handing people tickets earlier this week, right?
Shannon
Yeah, A lot of people are excited to go to that show.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I, I, if I have to run to Louisville or I Would. I would go. I love it. I'd love to hear him sing. Shannon. Lunch Lady Land.
Shannon
Right? So is that what he does? I mean, does he tell stories?
Matt Jones
No, I think he tells jokes.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But then I do think, you know, he pulls out the guitar. I watched his special on Netflix, and he did jokes. And then at the end, the thing about Chris Farley. Did you see that? It was very sweet. His song about Chris. About Chris Farley.
Billy
So you think.
Shannon
Do you think Adam Sandler can sell out?
Matt Jones
Rup, I don't think it's sold out, but I think he sells a lot of tickets. I mean, I. You know, selling out rough 20,000 for a comedy show is a lot, but I think he probably sold a lot of tickets.
Drew
Yeah, I would expect a good crowd. He's also got a little bit of the. Not that he needed it, but you got the Happy Gilmore bump. He's back.
Matt Jones
Yeah, back.
Drew
You know, he's never really left the news, but he's.
Matt Jones
We saw a little. He's made. I think I was. Maybe we did this on the air. He's worth $650 million. That's a lot of money for just a guy who did Lunch Lady Land.
Drew
On Saturday Night Live and dresses like he's worth $30,000.
Matt Jones
See? But that. I appreciate Shane and I appreciate his fashion sense. He's kind of like me. If you make some money. Still. Hoodies. Hoodies. He. He is a fellow member of the hoodie and shorts club.
Drew
And not just any shorts. He'll wear gym shorts.
Matt Jones
I wear shorter shorts.
Drew
Yeah, he's. Basketball shorts.
Matt Jones
Functions that. Isn't that the dream, to get yourself a job where you don't have to dress up?
Shannon
Yeah. And it seems like he lives well beneath his means. At least he does in his wardrobe.
Matt Jones
That's me, too. Save a lot of money in your wardrobe. Just. You just get your hoodies. Well. 859-280-2287. Ryan is gone today. It's me and Drew. Billy's gonna come join us. We had some miscommunication this morning, so he's got to come from the studio to hear, so he'll join us. It'll be almost like a NFL cover zero or. It's the news right here.
Drew
Yeah, we talk to each other on the air seven days a week now. So what's new?
Matt Jones
What's it. What's another day? All right, so last night, we did. We did trivia. There's a lot of. There's a lot of stuff I could ask you, but I do like to ask a couple of the questions to you all to see if you can get it.
Drew
Shannon. I will get them.
Matt Jones
All right, well, I'm gonna first was gonna be UK basketball questions. This is Portugal. This could be harder than you think. Okay. All right. From the Jamal Murray year. Okay. That's the year after 38 1. So Jamal Murray, Tyler Eulis, through the team where the tournament got canceled by Covid. Okay. Tyrese Maxey team.
Drew
Yes.
Matt Jones
That is five UK basketball teams. This is pre transfer portal era. Kentucky had eight players during that time who played at Kentucky who then left and went to another and played at a D1 school. Eight players from the Jamal Murray team through the team that had their tournament cancel. Can you name the eight players who played at Kentucky transfers then went and played at another D1 school quickly.
Drew
I can do Johnny Juzang. Charles.
Matt Jones
Let me just go through Johnny Juzang. Yes, that's one. Charles Matthews is two.
Drew
Sasha Kaleid Jones.
Matt Jones
That's three. Oh, five more. Shannon, Feel free to jump in. Yeah, feel free to contribute to the team if you would like.
Shannon
Trying to remember.
Matt Jones
That's three. Now, some of these are hard. One of them, fairly easy. You should be able to get but a couple you got to go deep in.
Drew
The only guys that left. I'm running low already.
Matt Jones
Who's on the team with Matthews?
Shannon
There was Dante Allen.
Matt Jones
Dante Allen's after. That's the Covid team.
Drew
That's good guess, though. Shannon, proud of you.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Drew
I don't have it.
Shannon
I don't either.
Matt Jones
Collectively, almost every team got at least four.
Shannon
They probably had longer than 30 seconds. I think about.
Matt Jones
You all are experts. You're Kentucky.
Billy
All right.
Matt Jones
Henry County. Do you know one? Nobody got one. All right, as I tell you, these, I'm disappointed. No one got Marcus Lee. Marcus Lee is a friend of the program.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And he went and played then Jamar Baker.
Drew
I should have gotten Jamar. I was still frustrated they didn't play him in the Auburn game.
Matt Jones
Quad A Green.
Drew
Forgotten cat.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Now these are the two hard.
Drew
Wait, hold on. Was. When did Keon Brooks get here?
Matt Jones
Keon Brooks, he was after. Okay, carry on. Ty Winyard.
Drew
Wow.
Matt Jones
Where did he even go with his bodyguard?
Drew
He went to, like, Cal Poly or something.
Matt Jones
It was like Cal Poly, Irvine, Santa.
Drew
Okay.
Matt Jones
And then finally. And this is one Shannon. Not one person in this restaurant got. Not one person got this played at Kentucky, transferred and played in another D1 school. Not one person out of the 33 teams we had here got Brad Caliperi. No one got Brad Caliperi.
Drew
If I were sitting here with five minutes, I probably would have gotten two more. I wouldn't have gotten Brad. I wouldn't have gotten Ty. When you're. Those are some deep cuts that never would have entered my brain.
Matt Jones
Okay, let me do one more sports one.
Drew
Okay.
Matt Jones
College basketball, men's national championships. We know UCLA has 11, Tucky has eight. There are eight teams that have either two or three or three national champions. Now we know obviously Duke, Carolina, Kentucky, UCLA have more. Who has two or three national champions?
Drew
Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Houston.
Matt Jones
Get past that group. Indiana, well done. Florida gets the first. He gets the first one. There are eight of them.
Shannon
Louisville would be.
Matt Jones
Louisville is one of them. That's exactly right. That's two. They have three or two, depending on how you look at it. Michigan State has two. Now you're at three.
Drew
Indiana, how about.
Matt Jones
Indiana has more.
Shannon
How about Villanova?
Matt Jones
Villanova. Shannon is killing it here. You all now have four of eight.
Shannon
And they're now running out.
Matt Jones
Now these next four are. I will grant you, hard. You have to kind of go into the history books a little bit to get these four. One of them is not that far from here. Anybody know Henry County?
Shannon
Henry county did not win.
Matt Jones
Henry county is not. It's not adding a lot to the group, but that's okay. Cincinnati.
Drew
Okay.
Matt Jones
That won a couple. North Carolina State, Oklahoma State, which is. That goes way back.
Shannon
Did Drew say Michigan State?
Matt Jones
He did, yes. And San Francisco. Yeah, you would not have gotten San Francisco.
Shannon
Cincinnati. What year was that?
Matt Jones
Cincinnati won, I think back to back. Didn't they? With. With Oscar Robertson, I believe, back in the day. I think they won back to back. One of them, I believe. Shannon. They won in Louisville. They won a national championship at Freedom hall in Louisville. So there you go. There are. There are other ones as well. Last one. This is a Kentucky related one. What are the 10 by median income, richest counties in Kentucky? Oldham is number one. Look at Henry County. You know, you don't like those Oldham county people. I understand that's close to your neighbor. Oldham county is the richest county in the state of Kentucky.
Billy
Fayette.
Matt Jones
Fayette is not in the top 10.
Shannon
Really?
Matt Jones
And well, and the reason being median income is average. There are a lot of poor people in cities. Same reason Jefferson county is also not in the top 10. So you're looking for places where most of the county has.
Shannon
I got another guess.
Matt Jones
Did you say Bourbon? Bourbon is not one of the ten.
Drew
Wood to get Horse country.
Matt Jones
Woodford is. Woodford is seventh.
Shannon
I feel like this has got to be in the top 10. Shelby County.
Matt Jones
Shelby county is fifth. What did you say? Boone county is third. Yeah, I need those. Northern, first, third, fifth, and seventh. Campbell county is ninth. So you all have gotten all the odd numbers. You need 2, 6, 4, 8, and 10.
Shannon
I guess. I'll guess Jefferson county with. With low.
Matt Jones
I already said Jefferson was not big cities. Yeah, no, because now Fayette was on the list last year. It dropped off. Jefferson's never been on the list.
Drew
What else is up there about Cincinnati?
Matt Jones
What'd you say?
Drew
More of those left?
Matt Jones
Huh? Kenton county is not, you know. Excuse me. Yes, it is. Kenton County's fourth.
Drew
There we go.
Matt Jones
So we still don't have second. Second, six, eighth, and tenth. You all have done a good job here. This is a good set of guesses. Anybody have second?
Drew
I was gonna say Warren. Warren.
Matt Jones
No, Warren. Second. I'm gonna have to give it up now so we don't have dead air. Spencer County.
Drew
Okay.
Matt Jones
Right up there next to us, Shannon.
Shannon
Right next to Bullock County.
Matt Jones
That's right. Sixth place, Scott.
Drew
About to come out of my mouth. Right?
Matt Jones
How do you not put Georgetown? There's more money in Georgetown. More money and chicken fingers in Georgetown than any other place in the world.
Drew
I listed our surrounding counties and didn't say Scott.
Matt Jones
You also didn't mention Jessamine county. Just right there. 8th place. Boy. How many rich people? All of our coaches except Mark Pope. They all live. And then 10th place. And I was shocked by this Bullock county bullet. We talk about drinking Mountain Dew, and they must drink Mountain Dew while sipping on chardonnay in Bullock County.
Shannon
We do.
Matt Jones
How about bullock county being 10?
Drew
Shannon skewing those numbers? Raising a little bit.
Washable Sofas Advertiser
Yeah.
Shannon
All that money I got stashed away.
Matt Jones
Shannon took the average and screwed it up, didn't he? All right, so anyway, that's. Those were three of the trivia questions last night. And you guys, had you come, would not have done well as a. As a team.
Drew
Will you make everyone else do it in 30 seconds without being able to.
Matt Jones
Stand right on top of them and make them give the answer Spot?
Shannon
I feel like we did pretty well.
Drew
Yeah, you can't have dead air.
Matt Jones
You did. You did exactly all right. Okay. So one of the things I want people, if you get bored today, to read. I feel like I think I've gone four to five years without praising the Herald Leader three times, and I'm now going to do it for the third time this week.
Drew
They're on a heater.
Matt Jones
They are on a heater. Mark story and John Hale are on a heater, so they should get a big round of applause. You know, we did the NIL lecture series Monday night. Me, Mark Story, and two people from out of town, the Wendell Ford. It was great. Really enjoyed it. And Mark Story told me during the thing, hey, we have some stuff coming out about nil. We had these long projects and I was like, oh, okay. Well, one of the features came out today, and I highly recommend if you're a subscriber of the Herald Leader or if you just, like, want to do their $1 for a month thing or whatever, you should read the article that just came out. They basically did an Idiot's Guide. Billy, this is a signal you could come in here. I didn't just stand up for my health. I don't just stand up usually and walk around. There you go.
Shannon
Speaking of idiots.
Matt Jones
Speaking of idiots. Wow.
Drew
Kidd.
Matt Jones
I stood up, moved, and then he just walked away and went in the other direction.
Billy
I thought you were making a passionate point.
Matt Jones
No, no, I was. I wasn't standing up to preach. They did an article, basically Nil for idiots. And they explained what. What it is, how it's working, what is happening at uk, how much of our money is going to each sport. Drew? I thought it was actually really brilliantly done. And they had a couple facts that I thought were interesting. Now, this is. The Herald Leader is saying sources tell them this. So this is not confirmed by the school, but I don't think they would write it unless they felt like it was right. They say that we are spending $22 million on our basketball program this year in players. For comparison's sake, Calipari's last nil Group was 4 million. Mark Pope's was last year 10 million. And this year is 22 million. Now they expect that number to go down next year for reasons that are complicated. This group this year kind of got a crazy situation because they got part Rev Share and part Nil and it kind of exploded. They think that number will go down. In the article, it says that Kentucky might have the highest paid roster in the country. Then in talking about Rev Share, it says that SEC schools, most of them, are going 75% football, 15% basketball, 5, women's basketball, 5. Everything else they said at Kentucky, it is 65% football, 10% less than the other schools, 25% basketball, 10% more than the other schools, and then women's and the other sports, five each. I think both of those sets of numbers are generally correct. That 22 million is higher than I've heard. But I'm not going to say it's crazy. But what do you think about the fact that the rev share is 10% more for basketball here? Do you like that? And when you're judging Mark Stoops, is it worth considering that he might have 10% less of a salary cap for lack of a better term than the other SEC teams.
Drew
I actually like that they're doing it here in Kentucky. So you don't let basketball slip when other schools we've mentioned other schools are going to have advantages where football don't need as much and you can't lose your grip on being the top program. And even though football is slipping a little bit or not getting as much, that shouldn't be that big of a gap that you're not competitive. That should only be a couple of players. You're going to be at a little bit of a disadvantage and should people should know that. But you should still be able to fill a pretty good team just because you're Even though you're 10% fewer than your opponent.
Matt Jones
I agree with you if it was.
Drew
30% for okay now but that's only going to be a few guys and.
Matt Jones
You can make that up in nil so they can make that up with private nil stuff. But I did just think it was interesting that's the first time in print by anyone I you know Matt Norlander said earlier this year he thought Kentucky was spending around $20 million. I think we can now that's now two is saying it. I think we can kind of think Kentucky probably has either the highest paid or second to maybe St. John's or Michigan highest paid roster in the country. Do you think that should figure in to the expectations of the team as we go into the year? 859-280-2287 Text machine is 772-77-45254 we'll take a break. We will let Billy talk now that he's finally gotten seated here in just a minute. This is ksr.

Matt Jones
I hate this song more than anything. Shannon.
Shannon
This one.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, it's just. I. This is the again, you know, it's the kind of music that I hate. You can buy me like I, I just. I can't stand this.
Shannon
See, I think this is at least a notch above like rednecker than you or he can't even.
Matt Jones
It's pretty bad. It's pretty. Because what is again, it's sort of the whole theme of I, I don't want material things. You just buy me a truck. Like, who is it?
Shannon
Chris Jansen.
Matt Jones
Chris JC I don't know who that is.
Drew
We saw him perform live at the convention. He performed this.
Matt Jones
He performed. Republican convention, I believe was Republican. Yeah, he probably wasn't at the Democrat.
Drew
If I were betting, I would say I was the Republican.
Matt Jones
That would. That would have been surprising. Billy, thank you for coming.
Billy
Thanks for having me on.
Matt Jones
Do you think you're gonna have. Since Ryan's not here, you're gonna say like words incorrectly inappropriate things.
Billy
Probably I'll have a rhinism or two, but I have my hoodie and shorts on, so I feel like I fit right in.
Matt Jones
You do. Everybody, if you get a chance this afternoon, just say, say a little prayer for Ryan. He's fine, but this is a tougher day for him. One person writes Matt Fairfall. Jalen, my daughter and Billy's favorite kid caller, had a field trip to U of L today. She wore a Kentucky sweatshirt. Is that fair or foul? Fair.
Billy
What's the question here?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, like, that's. I think that's fan of the day material.
Drew
What else are you going to wear?
Matt Jones
Yeah, you're not going to wear. I mean, I love it. Now if it was a U of L person and coming in here, that would be wrong for a child. But to go to U of L. I mean, we got to get something on them because we're going to lose in football here in a few weeks.
Drew
Yeah, we met the kid just a few weeks ago that the. Ls down when the. Was it the mayor that went talk to him.
Matt Jones
That's exactly.
Drew
I like these kids that are defending the front lines in Louisville for us.
Matt Jones
These folks are here from Kenton county, one of the 10 richest counties. You can see it in there. Look, all that wealth. Look at all that money. You can't hide, but you got. You can't hide money over here. And these folks are from Bath County, Billy, which is of course home of the meat shower.
Billy
Oh, I've heard that story once or twice.
Matt Jones
Yes. Where they. Where the vultures all vomited meat all over the town. So it's. I hate that. That's all I know. But yeah, you have a lot of Amish people. That's the only two things I know about Bath County. Meat shower and Amish. I'm gonna have to learn some more facts so that.
Drew
Those are two pretty good facts. Name another county that had a meat shower.
Matt Jones
Billy Napier, coach at Florida. Reports are that the boosters and the AD had a meeting and they have already decided to fire him. So he is pre fired, but he has not been announced to be fired. Would you want to be pre fired but then have to keep coaching on.
Drew
This one with Billy Napier, I feel like he's been pre fired for two years. Has it? He's been on the hot seat since he's been there.
Matt Jones
I think he has.
Drew
And not like kind of hot. And he gets off of it. It's just constantly hot underneath him. So I'm not surprised this is happening. I am surprised they're not just going to get it over with.
Matt Jones
It feels like it's kind of rude to pre fire somebody. And there's. The report said that there's talk that they might just wait till after Saturday and then fire him Sunday. Clearly they didn't want that out.
Drew
No.
Billy
Yeah. That's awkward. That's like when the coach is leaving and he doesn't get to tell the players first. And they all find out online. I mean, how do you look people in the eye after reports come out?
Matt Jones
Like a pre firing. Yeah, well, you know, the. The AD is Scott Strickland, but the reason this is partially important is, you know, Arkansas is looking for a coach. Now Florida's looking for a coach. There's a decent chance Auburn is very likely going to be looking for a coach. And there are people who think South Carolina might be looking for a coach. I think that would be surprising. You get all these teams looking for coaches. You know, I have to say, Drew, it's not the most ideal time if we decide to make a change to be going up against Penn State, Virginia Tech, Florida, Arkansas, Auburn. I mean, that's a lot of programs that it's not great for us to be competing with for a coach.
Drew
And it's just going to keep going as a coach leaves opens another door. It's going to be a big carousel this year. It's not the. The best time for Kentucky to go shopping because there's going to be teams that have to get their fifth or sixth option this offseason.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Drew
And I'm worried Kentucky might be in that mix.
Matt Jones
My hope is that if we have to do it because we have individual connections to John Sumrall, to, to Will Stein at Oregon, to Brian Hart Line at Ohio State, my hope would be that that helps you get one of them. I think, though, for anyone out there that thinks, well, Kentucky's going to go get a big name, I mean, Billy, we ain't going to get a big name over these schools. I mean, if Florida wants a big name, they'll get it more than we will. Right, Right.
Billy
But if you're waiting for the perfect time, then you may be waiting for a while. Never going to be perfect. You mentioned Shane Beamer. I think people have linked him to the Virginia Tech job. Obviously with the Beamer in the. I mean, regardless, it's. It kind of comes down to that win total for me. You know, if they get to five, they probably retain them. If it's anything less, I think it's less or he's gone.
Matt Jones
Five would be the worst. Who's up next?
Shannon
Let's go to Clay.
Matt Jones
Clay, go ahead. Clay. Clay.
Public Rec Advertiser
Yes, hello.
Caller
Can you hear me?
Matt Jones
Of course I can. Go ahead.
Caller
I just wanted to talk a little bit.
Matt Jones
Now I can't hear you. Don't have me on. So here's the thing. Here's the thing. And this is again, I probably have to remind people about this once a month. Don't have me on Bluetooth. Don't have me on speaker. Because if you have me on Bluetooth, which is what you have, it's gonna go in and out because your Bluetooth doesn't work. Now, do we have it on regular phone?
Caller
Yes, sir.
Matt Jones
All right, now go ahead.
Caller
All right. I was going to say, I think a lot of. I could see Texas hopping in to this coaching. If Steve Sarkeesian doesn't deliver the hardware. And I think everyone's just trying to get in on Signetti. I mean, I think that's the big thing. Everyone thinks they have a shot with him. But the main reason I called was y' all were talking about Yellowic the other day. I think he could be the wild card for this team because there's no more perfect player to play that hybrid 5. Like, everyone's response to us last year with Amari was to play drop coverage because they knew he couldn't shoot that outside shot. You put a guy like Yellow out there, that can maybe it might take him time to respond to the American game and athleticism.
Matt Jones
Appreciate the call. I agree. Except can he guard anybody? Because right now he can't guard one person on the floor. So we'll have to see if he gets better. We'll be right back.
Drew
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj.
Matt Jones
He'll make him pay.
Shannon
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
I mean, Shannon, you know, like, people. All right. This album was huge.
Shannon
Oh, my God.
Matt Jones
When we were in high school. Yeah. Yeah.
Shannon
Everyone had this out, and it's so stupid.
Matt Jones
It's so stupid.
Shannon
People love it.
Matt Jones
I mean, he's singing about lunch and like, Chris Farley, but you can see Chris Farley dancing around during this video.
Shannon
Yeah, but Chris Farley made it for me. I mean, Chris Farley, it's.
Matt Jones
But did everyone had this little CD or tape right when you were in college, when you're in high school? Oh, yeah. I would listen to. I listened to it till. Almost fell apart.
Shannon
I didn't have it.
Matt Jones
I mean, it's crazy to think about listening to a comedy like tape in cd. But. But we did.
Drew
I had a couple of them.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew
Chris Rock, he's like a little kid. Like a baby picture on the COVID.
Matt Jones
He had, like, two that were huge. One, like, some of them had, like, prank calls. They were ridiculous.
Billy
Yeah, I missed the cd. But, you know, a little younger than you. I. I mean, I watch Big Daddy a lot. Happy Gilmore was very influential.
Matt Jones
So he's influential.
Billy
Oh, yeah. To. To, like, your career path to the golf game. Yeah, no doubt.
Matt Jones
Billy was very. It's very influential to him. 859-280-2287. We were talking during the break, Drew. We might get three coaches fired or get our coach fired.
Drew
A coach involved in these next four games is getting fired.
Matt Jones
I mean, we have three games where if we beat them, that coach is definitely getting fired. Steve Sarkeesian, Billy Napier, and Hugh, Freeze. We win, they get fired. We win none of the games, then our own guy may get fired. That's kind of, it's kind of interesting how that goes.
Drew
I, I think it would be night night for all the ones you mentioned. So even though Sark still has them mathematically in the playoff, if he were to lose in Lexington this weekend, I think they'd, they'd pull the plug on him, too.
Billy
And how do you remember Arch Manning if he loses to Kentucky?
Matt Jones
No, if Arch Manning loses to Kentucky, this is a bust of a year. I mean, if we were to win Saturday, expect on Monday. On first take, they're talking about, well, Arch Manning's a bus. He just lost to Kentucky, which isn't really complimenting us. Texas fans are getting into town. We had some here last night for trivia. Like, I mean, we are three days from the game and there are already Texas fans landing here.
Drew
Well, I drive in to end downtown every morning to come here and you can just see them walking the sidewalks, getting their coffees, coming out of the hotels.
Matt Jones
They're here in the Bourbon, the Keeneland. That's all they're in. They're. They're all coming. You were saying you, you're very unconfident for this game. Saturday said you thought we might get shut out.
Drew
I, I actually don't think Texas offense is going to beat us up too bad. But their defense is nasty. They give up 10 points a game. I mean, Oklahoma has a Heisman candidate and a good offense, and what they score last week against Texas may fully shut them out. So as we've said many times, it's been two years since we've scored more than two touchdowns in a game. And now we're facing one of the best defenses in the country.
Matt Jones
859-280-228 87. Indiana. Greg Doyle. You remember our good friend Greg Doyle. He's had a rough couple years in the national spotlight with some. I love Greg, but it seems like he does something, makes bad decisions.
Billy
The Caitlin Clark question.
Matt Jones
The Caitlin Clark thing was bad. And then there, there have been others. He just hasn't, he hasn't been clicked. But I got to see him when Kentucky played Indiana or, excuse me, Tennessee up in Indianapolis last year. Sweet.
Caller
Sp.
Matt Jones
But he did an article yesterday that said Kurt Signetti, the Indiana football coach, why would he go to Penn State? He's already at, quote, an elite football school.
Drew
Yeah, I saw that. I'm going to do the. Love you, but with Greg also. But that is, that is crazy. You're telling me if Florida, Penn State, heck, maybe Texas, all the jobs that are going to be open. If they called him and made him a priority, which he would be very high on everyone's list, he's gonna say, no, I'm good in Bloomington.
Matt Jones
What's the definition of elite football school? If Indiana gets in it? Seriously, are we in elite football?
Drew
It's gonna be good for two years.
Matt Jones
Yeah, one and a half. Yeah, one and a half years. They still, they still don't have anybody that goes their games. I mean, I think they sold out. This year was first. They didn't even sell out last year. The games. Their stadium is awful. Like.
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Is that all it takes to be in elite football? Schools have one good year.
Billy
No, it doesn't. Especially when you're running away from all the tough non conference opponents on your schedule. They can't even play Louisville and finish their series because they're afraid they're going to.
Matt Jones
They did cancel their Louisville series. Although, Shannon, we have to be careful making fun of that because one day we may be canceling our Louisville series.
Shannon
Maybe as soon as next year.
Matt Jones
That could end up happening soon. So we, I do think we have to be careful about that.
Drew
Yeah, worry about that one. But Indiana enjoy Sig wise there because his phone's going to be ringing a lot this off season.
Matt Jones
Do you, do you think that, do you think the Indiana situation is partially why people are even more frustrated with Stoops? Like I've made the view that when Jeff Brown went to Louisville, then took Vince, that put pressure on Stoops. But I think there is an argument that Indiana winning is like, well, if they can do it in Indiana, then why can't you do it?
Drew
Indiana and Vandy at the same time, same year, same seasons completely just skyrocketed up. And you went the other direction years ago, Missouri. And you're making excuses while it's like, well, they just did. They're doing it right in front of our eyes and they're even farther behind than we are at where they started.
Matt Jones
I mean, yes, Indiana, Missouri and Vandy have had 10 win seasons in the last couple years. Does the excuses part make you more upset about it?
Drew
Yes. And it's not even just that other schools are good. It's that we're saying we don't have enough money. But then it's the things that are hurting us are like timeouts, those don't cost any money. That's just you not knowing how to use your time out. Stuff like that, that has nothing to do with ponying up. If you get to a level when it's just crisp, everything's smooth, but you can't knock down Georgia or Alabama, then let's talk about money. But right now, let's maybe get in the end zone a couple times against just any team.
Billy
And it doesn't even have to be 10 or 11 wins. I mean, Mississippi State was a seller dweller and they're even competent this year. So, I mean, seller dweller. They like that.
Drew
I was gonna add them to it. They stunk last year and they're what, four and two and their losses are the top 15.
Matt Jones
I want to read you something, Billy. Yeah. One person writes. Matt, I want to be honest with you. My wife is very anti Billy. I used to be anti Billy, but thanks to it's the news and cover zero, I've become more pro Billy. Do you think the KSR audience as a whole is pro or anti Billy?
Billy
Well, considering every time I join you on ksr we get this comment.
Matt Jones
Okay, look at all these pro abilities.
Shannon
Because they're all in front of you.
Billy
It's easier to say. That's right.
Matt Jones
You got a whole section of pro billies here.
Billy
Well, the pre show made a thousand episodes, so we must be doing something.
Matt Jones
First of all, congratulations to the pre show. Had their thousandth thank you episode today. That's great. I. This is just my opinion. I think you have grown more likable as the years have gone on. No, no, I.
Drew
You were so unlikable when you got here.
Matt Jones
That's good. Take this as a compliment because I mean it. I've said this to you in some form in private. I think you have. You have always been likable to me, but I think your on air Persona has become more likable over the last few years. I think you still have the moments where you're. You can be rough around the edges, but I think you have become more pro. I mean, I, I do, I mean.
Billy
Well, thank you. Was I pretty unlikable those first couple years?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I do. I think that, that. But that's why I brought you. That's why I brought you on is.
Shannon
I thought we needed sort of rehabilitation.
Drew
You to make us look more likeable.
Matt Jones
We needed to have a foil. We needed to have somebody that the audience would get mad at sometimes times. But I think you've actually slowly, over time, kind of won some of the audience over.
Billy
I've had some setbacks. The children thing didn't help. And then Peter the dog recently, I don't think that Was your biggest.
Matt Jones
Your biggest setback was Heather?
Drew
Yes. I was gonna bring that up.
Matt Jones
That was your big. And I think the problem is you still don't think that was the setback.
Billy
I'm gonna keep my mouth shut on that one.
Drew
Yeah. I think what hurts you is these don't happen often, but when they do and people are like, hey, Billy, we don't agree with that. You sometimes double down, which then just angers them even more.
Matt Jones
I think another thing, your confidence level. You have strong confidence and I think sometimes people are like that scares people.
Billy
Well, I think I got a little signetti in me. I mean, Google me, you'll find out.
Drew
All you need to know.
Matt Jones
What are they gonna Google and find?
Drew
Bogeys?
Billy
Actually, yeah. You get a little bogeys with Billy? I don't know. I haven't googled myself in a while.
Drew
So I'm gonna google them right now.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I don't know that Googling you is the right thing to do. What's next, Shannon?
Shannon
Let's go to Dennis.
Matt Jones
Go on. Me? I don't think you've earned.
Drew
First thing comes up is a picture of him with his stuff and his.
Billy
Hay bell toss Championship.
Drew
Hey, bail champion.
Matt Jones
Okay, go ahead.
Caller
Hey there.
Matt Jones
What's up? Hey.
Caller
How can you hold or how can we hold? Mark Stoops. Our football program is giving 10% less than any other SEC school out there.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller
So, yeah, Vanderbilt should be winning more football games than Kentucky.
Matt Jones
Okay, let me ask you a question. Much less. Okay, so let's do the math. How much less money? Let's just assume that 10% number is correct. How much less money is that than the other teams are getting?
Caller
I'm not for sure.
Matt Jones
Okay, well, it's $22 million or $20.5 million. Is the. Is the amount of rev share 2 million? It's $2 million. Now, let me just assume that they're not making that up from nil. I think they are, probably, but let's just say they're not. Do you think $2 million is what causes the coaching mistakes at the end of the first half? Is $2 million why we can't get a quarterback that develops at all? It's $2 million. Why we make boneheaded decisions. It's $2 million why we have players going to the concession stand during games? I mean, do you really think that is what causes those problems?
Caller
No, but. But if I'm a coach in a recruiting battle for another high school football player. Look, Kentucky won't even spend as much on football. As the rest of us. I mean, and you talk about making money up. Kentucky basketball should be making the money up.
Matt Jones
Not.
Caller
Not the Kentucky football program. They're the ones that can get the donations.
Matt Jones
So you would suggest that you would rather Kentucky basketball have less money to give.
Caller
Oh, yeah, right. Because the rest SEC is paying. What? If you're going to compete with the Big Dogs, you've got to give what everybody else in SEC does. SEC is a football conference. If you want to make the. If you want to make the money up, make it up on the other end with the basketball. Not try to not put your. Put a stranglehold on your football program.
Matt Jones
All right. Well, I appreciate the call. I would argue the $2 million, while important, is not the reason we haven't won a home SEC game in two and a half years. But there are there. Do you. Do you find any validity to that argument?
Drew
A little. I mean, you don't want to be behind the eight ball and recruiting and building a team. But I think people are skipping over the fact that our basketball team could be severely behind if Duke and the Villanovas and the teams that don't have an SEC football team want to just go crazy. I mean, at the end of the day, we got to protect Rubberyno over there first.
Matt Jones
I mean, ultimately, I hate that the current system requires you to decide, but let's be real. Let's say we spend the exact same amount of money as Georgia and Alabama. Do you think we're going to beat Georgia and Alabama?
Billy
Not every year. I mean, you'll have some parity, guys.
Matt Jones
I won't say the vast majority of years, no. So if we spend the exact same amount of money as the rest of the SEC to come in 12th instead of 15th, I'd rather have our basketball team compete for titles. That's me. But I don't agree with the premise. I don't agree with the fact that the $2 million, even if that's true, is why we're not good. We're not good because we have lost the way in discipline, in recruiting and focus. That's why it is. We're not losing to Georgia on a last second play because they have a receiver who beats our DB and catches it at the buzzer. We're not in these games. We didn't lose to South Carolina by 30 because they of $2 million.
Drew
We've had two ABC games. Both went to halftime laughing at Kentucky. They went to the studio and they were making jokes. That wasn't because we're 2 million behind. That's because we're dysfunctional.
Matt Jones
Totally agree.
Billy
To Drew's point, it's timeouts. It's management that can be fixed, not just the roster.
Drew
And all this can change year by year.
Matt Jones

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at KS Bar Grill. Got some folks here from Richmond that we just said hello to. So we got Richmond, Henry county, we got Kenton county and then we've got Bath county. All all here today and other folks you can come in for lunch. A couple things this is D'. Angelo. He passed away at the age of 51. Legendary song here. Shannon from our era, Brown Sugar, you.
Shannon
Know, that was you, a big d' Angelo guy. Was this on your mixtape while you.
Matt Jones
Were mowing the line? He liked this song a lot. Then he had a song. Didn't he have a song where he was like naked?
Caller
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Do you remember that music video, Untitled?
Drew
How does it Feel?
Matt Jones
Yeah, there.
Drew
What a weird thing to ask. I had all the D. D' Angelo albums.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that one.
Caller
One.
Matt Jones
That one was. Was. It was kind of crazy to see on mtv because he was just like basically almost completely naked on your television.
Drew
At like 3 o' clock in the afternoon.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I remember my grandmother. Rest in peace to my lovely Granny Helen. She walked in one time when that video was on and she goes, what is this trash you are watching on television? And I said, I didn't mean to just watching trl because I think she may have also been like, worried I was like gay watching it too, because it was. Was on television.
Drew
For anyone that doesn't know what we're talking about, it's a very seductive video, I would say. Yes.
Matt Jones
And they played it. You're right. At three o' clock in the afternoon on. On. On mtv.
Drew
And now Backstreet Boys. It was just one of the one.
Matt Jones
It was strange. Also, want to give a shout out and a salute and a rest in peace to Dicky Martin. Dicky Martin's one of the legendary radio voices in the state of Kentucky. He called Ashland Tomcat basketball games for 50 years. Think about or excuse me, 45 years. No, I'm right. 50 years. Started in 1975-20. 25. 50 years and saw state championships. Same at Sweet 16 every year. Passed away. When you're talking about media in Kentucky that had an impact, especially on the local level, Dicky Martin is at the top of that list. So prayers to his family. A true Kentucky media legend, Dicky Martin. And then finally we put up a Twitter poll. Is Billy likable? Okay, so there are at this moment, looks like there's 275 votes. Is Billy likable? Only been six minutes of voting right now. It stands 55 yes, 45 no. At this point, you are the majority likable.
Billy
Well, there's already some really kind comments on the poll as well. I appreciate that, but I just retweeted, so let my audience get on there.
Matt Jones
Oh, you think you have an audience different than mine?
Billy
Yeah, let the. Let my fan base get on there. We'll bump those numbers Up.
Matt Jones
I like this. Bill, you there? You think there's a significant amount of people that follow you that don't follow us?
Billy
Yeah, I'd like to think so. I mean, okay. I am more than just KRS people.
Matt Jones
Oh yeah? You're more than ksr?
Drew
Oh, no.
Billy
More than just ksr.
Matt Jones
Who are these people? That's a good question.
Billy
John Short Wells me the Western Kentucky fan base. I keep it real on the tops, which by the way looked terrible the other night against.
Matt Jones
So you think you have a big significant Western family?
Billy
I wouldn't say big, but you know, we've got some fans. There's no doubt.
Matt Jones
Okay. One person writes Matt saying Billy is not likable is one of the most ironic things ever. The least likable person on the show by far is Matt.
Billy
Oh, give yourself some credit. Shannon's definitely the most.
Matt Jones
Least like, I don't care.
Drew
That's fine.
Shannon
I don't care if you like me or not. I never asked you to like me, so I don't really care if you like me or not.
Billy
Yeah, I got, I got stuck with you, Shannon.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I, I, I'm, I'm sure there are people that don't think I'm like, well, I don't know why you would listen to a show that I host if you did not like me. That would seem like to just be, you'd just be like, why? You just hate on you just hating yourself and doing that.
Billy
You hate listening to Tennessee post game shows, right?
Matt Jones
No, no, no, no. Not regularly. I just want to listen to them be sad. I think that's a little bit different. Zadarius Smith Drew retired from the NFL. He was Mark Stoop's first big guy that he brought into Kentucky. Played in the NFL for many years. Was a pro Bowler, I think twice. Three times. Three times. He great Kentucky player. Kind of an underrated Kentucky player because he played on bad teams. But how about Zadarius great career.
Drew
I love Big Z. I remember when Stoops first signed him, he was out of. What is that? East Mississippi Community College.
Matt Jones
He was out of the school.
Drew
That was Last chance you.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew
So we're excited to have him. Then he panned out, had two great years with him here and been keeping up with him as NFL careers. I know he's been on four or five different teams. Then kind of a surprise mid year retirement. But love Big Z. The original Big Z.
Matt Jones
The original Big Z. And then Jamal Mashburn has been hired by TNT Sports. He is going to do the studio show for their college basketball games, the studio, and they have Big 12 and Big east games. The studio show is going to be Jamal Mashburn, Jalen Rose, and Bruce Pearl. I actually think that'll be a pretty good show, Bill.
Billy
Yeah, Bruce Pearl.
Matt Jones
I mean, Jalen Rose and. And Bruce Pearl have been great TV guys over the years. Then you throw in Jamal Mashburn and.
Drew
You left off friend of the program. Adam, left, goes hosting. I won't miss an episode.
Matt Jones
I actually think that has a chance to be really good, don't you? I mean, Bruce Pearl, for all his. His annoyance, is a very good television personality. Jalen Rose has been good. And now Jamal. So we finally get a cat on these on this cover.
Billy
Let's go. Does a good job, too.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew
And they got Weber. They got a big crew.
Matt Jones
I think that's a great crew. I wish our games were occasionally on there, but they won't be. We'll take a break, come back. Our number two ksr.
