Nmlsconsumeraccess.Org welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. It is hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287 text machine is 772-774-5254. We will go back in just a second to UK football. Let's talk about a couple other things here real quick. First of all, blue white game, Drew nothing really matters except that Jalen Lowe got hurt. I mean I don't even know that there was anything worth talking about before the game. It cast a, a Paul on the proceedings because as soon as it happened then everybody stopped playing. We still don't have an official word from UK but the kind of unofficial word that I've heard and it seems like since then other people have heard is that kind of popped it out of place but nothing was torn and they feel like it should be fine. And the phrase I heard was two to three weeks not going to probably play in the exhibition games and then hope to have him for at least one regular season game before Louisville. But there it was said to me that, you know, sometimes these things can linger and it could go a little bit longer but the sort of worst possible option, which is like serious injury, seems to not be on the table. Have you heard similar things that and.
Drew
There'S some people that saw him at the Louisville Volleyball game yesterday and he wasn't wearing a sling, which you'd think I would almost bet anything he'd have a sling on. And you know they're keeping A close eye on him and said he looked to be in good spirits. He wasn't really favoring or anything. So he was out in public and living his normal life, going through it all. But when it happened, that was about the biggest panic I can remember around the Kentucky fan base there for a while.
Matt Jones
Been a while since we've had one of those. Yeah. Where everybody was. Because, I mean, I think he's the only guy on the team. Ryan, you can't lose. You know, I mean, you don't want to lose anybody. You don't want to lose anybody. But if you're just talking about the guy that would hurt the team the most long term to lose, I think it would be him. And then to have that happen in the blue white game was. It's tough.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Shannon
I.
Ryan Lemond
Two things. One, I'm tired of seeing our point guard lay on the ground with a shoulder injury. That's two years in a row that's got to stop. And second, it's all Annabelle. Get her out of here. Don't let her come back around during basketball season. Get her out.
Matt Jones
So you. You all blame Annabelle? Shannon, do you blame Annabelle?
Shannon
Of course. You got on the air. You were mocking her.
Matt Jones
First off, stop putting me in the contest. I did not.
Shannon
Came after your favorite player. You've been talking. You should reverse the curse and apologize to Annabelle right now.
Matt Jones
It is. You think it's because it was my favorite play?
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Shannon
I mean, she could have gone after anybody, but she chose your favorite player.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, I don't think it had anything to do with me. Plus, there was a priest that blessed the city of Lexington. Did you not see that?
Shannon
Yeah, but it doesn't work on her.
Ryan Lemond
Well, remember you made fun of him, didn't think he was a real priest. True.
Shannon
You didn't you question his credibility?
Matt Jones
Question whether he was a real. I still don't think he's a real. I don't think we. I don't think the Pope assigns priests to follow dolls. I don't. Maybe I'm wrong.
Shannon
Should.
Matt Jones
Maybe I'm wrong.
Ryan Lemond
And it was the one player who gave the jersey to Adam Sandler. So Annabelle, I think, totally signaled that person out.
Shannon
And Adam Sandler mentioned somebody getting injured.
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Shannon
Come on, man. Let's connect the dots.
Matt Jones
So you're putting all this together as a Annabelle Sandler Jones?
Shannon
Yes.
Matt Jones
Now, don't throw me in there. I didn't have anything to do with this situation. So, Ryan, you haven't heard anything, though, to make it seem like it could be longer than that.
Ryan Lemond
No. I'm leaning on you guys to surprise us with some health updates because I've not heard anything. They just desperately need him back for this season.
Matt Jones
He's.
Ryan Lemond
He, he's the most valuable player in the team.
Matt Jones
I do think Drew, he probably won't play against Purdue. Does that change how you feel like you'll judge the game against the number one team in the country Friday?
Drew
No. We're Kentucky basketball fans and we're absolutely crazy. So we expect to win that with anyone playing point guard. And if we don't, we'll. We'll panic a little bit. Not too much, but we won't treat that like the game that it should be. It's just as a meaningless exhibition.
Matt Jones
Well, I'm not going to panic. I actually think this is in some ways for me personally, Ryan, it makes me worry about the game less now. I'm going to be like, well, if we lost, we would have won. If we had Jaden or Jalen Lowe, you know, like, I mean, I actually kind of think it's going to be. I'm less nervous about the game without him because again, it doesn't count. And I always have the backup excuse of not having our point guard. Right.
Drew
Think if they think if they win without him, then now you get excited.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew
Look the other way of the optimistic outlook. If you beat Purdue without Low.
Matt Jones
If you beat the number one team in the country without your starting point guard and who I think will be your first or second best player now, Ryan Lemon. I'm starting to get excited.
Ryan Lemond
Okay, let's, let's go ahead and put a positive spin on it. You know, one of the weaknesses we thought this team going in the season was who's going to be the backup point guard.
Matt Jones
Well, we'll find out.
Ryan Lemond
Aberdeen, Colin, Chandler, Jasper. Here's your chance, you guys.
Matt Jones
They're all going to get a chance, I would think, to see. I think Aberdeen will get the first shot at it, but it'll be interesting to see. I think this, you really will get kind of a workout. You're going to play the number one team in the country. You're going to see, okay, who could, who can play this role. And you know, the other thing is Drew, Mark Pope has experience and not having a starting point guard and trying to figure out how to work around it.
Drew
Yeah, I mean, you don't want this to happen obviously, but there is a little bit of. There was a question mark of who's your second point guard. Well, now you have a built in excuse to play Those guys and give them experience that they would have had otherwise. So still horrible thing to happen. Glad the news isn't bad, but there is a little bit of good news that the other guys will get an opportunity earlier than they would have to see what they can do.
Matt Jones
Saturday, we talked a lot about the. Just the city of Lexington and how many people were there, you know, from. Well, Friday. Ryan, would you like to do your traffic rant from Friday night?
Ryan Lemond
Friday night was the worst traffic in the history of Lexington, Kentucky. It was awful. It was a waterline break on Main street and a wreck out there at Newtown pike and Interstate. And all this happened during rush hour when Cayman was letting out and people were trying to get downtown for the Blue Eye game all at the same time. It was awful.
Matt Jones
It is the worst I've seen. I tried to drive to my house, to the restaurant, the Catch, which is out there on Southland.
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Matt Jones
And I think I could have taken. You know, I think literally I could have walked. I mean, quicker. It was. It was. It was the worst thing I've ever seen in terms of the whole city was. Was just gridlock. You know, you had the scare fast. Then you get Saturday, you have the scare fest. You have the game, you have Keeneland, you have parents weekend. There was a protest downtown that had thousands of people. And then you just throw in that it was a beautiful day, just a beautiful day to be outside. And there. It was. Just. There were people absolutely everywhere. Our bar had. It was the second biggest day we've ever had at our bar, honestly, probably the biggest, because the first biggest day included a time we did stuff outside and we didn't do, like, what had a tent and stuff. Stuff. So I'm going to say Texas fans, by the way, Shannon, big tippers, Those Austin folks. Yeah, it's just because they're all rich.
Shannon
Everybody kept saying, there's a lot of orange in there. And I said, all I could see is green.
Matt Jones
Yeah, there was. It was a good. It was. It was a good weekend overall. Had a really good overall weekend. But the Texas people, I do thank them for that. But just in general, the city was alive. And I think, Drew, that's partially why Saturday night hurts so much, was because had they won, I think Lexington would have been electric that evening, you know.
Drew
Oh, yeah, it was already. I can't remember a weekend like that maybe ever. And aside from the traffic problems, Lexington really showed off. With everything they were going on, I can only imagine how much fun Texas fans had. But if they could have, Kentucky could have Ended it with a win that night. This would have been an all.
Shannon
Oh, there they go again.
Matt Jones
There we go again.
Shannon
We're losing you.
Matt Jones
Yeah. It's a good thing I got me and you.
Shannon
That's right.
Matt Jones
As long as. You know what, as long as I have you, we can get through everything else and we'll be able to do it. 859-280-27. But. Yeah. 2287. But seriously, shout out to all the people that came to the bar this weekend. This was maybe the best the whole thing has ever run in terms of, like, you know, people and food quality and just people being kind. And Texas fans, they're almost too nice, Shannon. Like, they don't, you know, like, you know, Georgia fans bark and Tennessee fans spit and like, you know, all these people, they're always doing stuff. But the Texas fans were like, they were like the nicest fans I've ever.
Shannon
The Cowboys and Cowgirls, right? They're. They're all laid back, good people from Texas.
Matt Jones
Maybe it's just like, they just.
Shannon
We got you now.
Matt Jones
We're back.
Shannon
You're back.
Matt Jones
Hello there, sir. How you doing, Cowboy? Like, they've just felt like they were all pretty nice.
Shannon
Don't get used to it because like you said, Tennessee fans coming in this.
Matt Jones
Weekend, it'll be completely the opposite next weekend. Who's next?
Shannon
Let's go to Daniel.
Matt Jones
Daniel, Are they back, by the way?
Shannon
Are they? I heard Ryan talking there.
Matt Jones
Ryan, you there?
Ryan Lemond
We're here now.
Matt Jones
All right, cool. Daniel, go ahead. Daniel.
Shannon
Daniel.
Matt Jones
Daniel.
Shannon
Anytime you're ready, Daniel. Okay, we'll try.
Matt Jones
D by the way, we. We should note amongst the many people in the bar Saturday were former UK offensive coordinator Rich Gangarillo, who, you know, when you're not thinking about seeing somebody, Ryan, and you just like, is that Rich Gangarello? And then there was a moment I was like, is that Steve Zahn? Because he also kind of looks like Steve Zahn, if you remember. That was a real. It took me a minute to roll. I was him. And then he came in and talked to us.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, came up, talked to us a little bit. So he was there with some Texas fans, but he had on a neutral gray shirt, not rooting for either team. So he's a guy that needs a duo. He do over because he was here when Levis got hurt that season.
Matt Jones
Well, he also apparently is representing a lot of the potential first round picks in the draft. So I think it'll be. He'll be doing all right. All right, Go ahead, Don.
Shannon
Go ahead.
Caller
Yeah, there's two things I'd like to say. First. First one is I got to see all four of the Manning boys play and I was not impressed with his last one. Second thing is we had good drive going the first quarter. I believe it was made all the way down there, 20 yard line and we just stopped. We should have been ahead but we stopped throwing the ball and we ran. What's your take?
Matt Jones
It did make me wonder. Okay, so they script and I appreciate the call. They script. Drew. I think their first 15 plays of the game and when we started the first half, that drive all the way down the field, field was scripted and then you got in that situation after the slide where it was third and two and my guess is they go off script there because it's a short yardage situation and then we, you know, we're in the mud for two plays. Then if you go back to the second half, we start the second half. I'm going to guess it was scripted again. And the plays we went up and down the field again. We ended up having to kick a field goal but we had a good drive and, and part of it made me wonder when you saw how good those two drives were that were scripted. Even though we only ended up with three points total in those. They. I think they had a total of 140 yards on those two drives. It does make you wonder, Drew, if like again in game adjustment is the issue because when it was, when they had time to think about it before the game, it actually they went right down the field.
Drew
And it wasn't just that game. Many games this year the opening drive has looked good. Even going back to Calzada, Hampton's got him pretty good right out of the gate. It's from there on out, as you said, when you're in the middle and you're having to base things based on situational, that's where I don't trust them at all. But when it's sticking to a game plan and you're right out of the half or at the beginning of the game, they've looked pretty good this year.
Matt Jones
Ryan, I said on the post game show I remember Freddie once saying there were three parts to coaching, motivation, game preparation and then situation. And I've said I actually think Mark is really pretty good at the first two that like, you know, with a couple of exceptions, I think they generally are pretty motivated. He does a good job with that. Obviously there was that meme during the off season that joked about it, but I actually think it's true. I think really especially when you look at Liam and maybe even Bush when it comes to game prep and game plan, I think they're pretty good. The thing is just in the middle of the game in game adjustments, they've just never been good at him.
Ryan Lemond
And I think he just can't help himself. I just think that's the football world he grew up in. He believes it. You know, you, when you get tight, you just try to out physical, to out tough ground and pound and beat your opponent up front. I think he just can't help himself. Now I will say this while we're talking about it, I was the best game our receivers have had all year. It was the receivers room really, you know, with I never throw the ball.
Matt Jones
Downfield, but I did watch again, being there, you're able to see the whole field. We don't get open downfield. So I think, you know, Ocho Cinco was like, they never throw the ball downfield. I kind of think Drew, we don't have a choice because I don't think those guys get open after about 10 yards.
Drew
No, but they did spread around more than ever. There's at least 10 guys that caught a pass. Law still looks like he could be something. He made a tough catch even though he didn't have a lot of catches in the game. You had another tight end, Henry Boyer, with a big grab, but it's by far the most involved they've gotten. Everyone you've looked, Troy Stellato was in the game. There's guys that haven't done anything that were in there making place.
Matt Jones
Yeah. The Kentucky Chamber is working on important issues. Kentuckians are facing tackling significant challenges like child care access, barriers to work and housing availability. Matt Jones
So this is Kin Pop.
Shannon
Yes, this is Bound Terrain.
Matt Jones
All right.
Shannon
It's about Kentucky's three point efficiency.
Matt Jones
I hope that's right. I mean, I just want to assume she does the efficiency.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Because no one's ever seen Kim Palm, right? I have seen him.
Drew
He looks like you would think he would look.
Ryan Lemond
I got a vision in my head and I'm nerdy looking guy.
Drew
He probably has a pocket protector.
Matt Jones
Just there's a guy. What's the guy's name for CBS that does that? I've met him. What? Jerry Palm. He. He looks like. You think he would too, like think about what you bracket. I mean, that's actually true. Like we know what Joe Leonardi looks like. Shannon.
Shannon
Yeah. Mike Decorsi.
Matt Jones
Well, I don't put Mike in the same group.
Shannon
He does the same thing. He does like the.
Matt Jones
Oh, he does.
Shannon
Brackets, bracketology. Yes, he does.
Matt Jones
So is that like you have to be like that?
Shannon
I think so.
Matt Jones
The Corsi.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Leonardi, Ken Palm and Jerry Palm. You think they just go to the. They were all like in the same fraternity in school.
Shannon
Fraternity of nerds. And yeah. You put together brackets.
Matt Jones
Still a pretty good. It's a pretty good gig I would think though, right?
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
All right, got a question for you. Shane Sharp signed a new deal. Four years, $90 million. We all got to seem warm up. Dunk. Do you feel any like when you see something like that, Ryan, do you feel any like that's our guy? Or does it go, no, I'm not. I have. No. It doesn't matter.
Ryan Lemond
I don't. This is just me. But like Ennis, I felt like was our guy. Shane Sharp, I felt like was never our guy. And I don't know why I feel that way. It's just how I feel.
Matt Jones
What about you, Drew? And you feel anything for it?
Drew
Not really. You know, I hate because I mean he did go to the school and wear the jersey. I mean he actually did a lot more than a lot of fans do. He attended at least a class, I assume. So he should be a Wildcat. I just don't feel that way with how all that went down. It never felt right. All the com. The comments around it were inconsistent. The whole year, it just felt like we got played on that one.
Matt Jones
I know your answer to this question. You don't feel any connection at all, Right?
Shannon
I mean, the guy that sat right behind him was just one row from basically being on the team as much as he was. So we gotta look at it. So. But I do wonder though, if he did, and I said this on the pre show, if he did play, and let's say he played in the tournament against St. Peter's I don't think Kentucky loses that game. And if they don't lose against St. Peter's does that change what happens with Caliper? Is he still.
Matt Jones
Great question. It's a great question. I kind of agree with you that they don't lose just because. Who say? I mean, he is such an elite athlete. Who is going to guard him, right? I mean, probably no one. It's a great question. I mean, there's a lot of what ifs of the. Of the Cal per. Like, what if Cal had just played Reed, Rob and Antonio a lot. You know, I don't say this to be rude, but let's just say Drew, D.J. wagner and Justin Edwards, for whatever reason, don't decide to come here. Right. And you just have to play Reed, Robin, Antonio. Is it a different time for him? Is it a different season, different career? You know, apparently, Shannon, maybe this is having to do with them. You know, like the Internet is having problems all around the country.
Shannon
Yeah, I hear, like Amazon was down and like some of the other apps that are connected.
Matt Jones
So what do we know? Do we know what's going on? Like, apparently there are like. Like this thing says 33% of all sites are either down or struggling today. Do we know why that is?
Shannon
I'm not really sure, Annabelle.
Ryan Lemond
Maybe.
Shannon
I don't know. I don't know what it is.
Matt Jones
There are. There are a couple of apps that I use. Like you mentioned, you can't get on Amazon.
Shannon
Yeah, Right.
Matt Jones
I tried to get on my bank app. That didn't work earlier today. So I don't know. Maybe. And maybe that's what's happening in our studio too, there in Lexington. But one third of America's Internet.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Is either down or working sporadically today.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
This is the thing. One of these days, someone's gonna attack us and knock all of this out. Like, it'll be like a cyber attack. Yep. And this country will be completely screwed when that happens.
Shannon
Oh, yeah, yeah. You can't do anything.
Matt Jones
I mean, there's really nothing you can do.
Shannon
Business would have to shut down. I mean, everything would be shut down without the.
Matt Jones
And it's not like it's easily fixable. It's not like the old days where you could just scan the credit card. Right.
Shannon
Like, yeah, yeah. We have become so reliable. Just reliable, reliable.
Matt Jones
Reliant.
Shannon
Reliant. Thank you. I'll get there. On, on the Internet. And. And if you don't have that, then a lot of businesses, like I said, just have to shut things down. They can't do it.
Matt Jones
Who's up next?
Shannon
Let's go to Lane.
Matt Jones
Lane. Go ahead, Lane.
Caller
Hey, Matt. First time, long time.
Matt Jones
Who? What's up?
Caller
Two things for you real quick. I'm an international pilot for Delta, so I hope you had a great experience on your trip.
Matt Jones
I did, thank you.
Caller
Second off. Good. Second off. You think there's a situation on that fourth down that you kind of ride on the momentum of your kicker and go for those, those three points. That way you know what you're defending against on the other end and just try to get something on the board and hope for a chance?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I don't. I mean, I, you know, I, I've obviously heard the other case. For me, it's just a numbers game and I think the numbers this. Okay, what are your chances of getting it on fourth and a half? I think if you run a good play, it's 75 or 80%. Let's just say for sake of argument, it's 80%. And now, you know, four out of five chance to get a touchdown. I feel like we score a touchdown, we got a good chance of winning. All right, let's say you kick probably a 95% chance you make it. But now you give the ball to Texas, what's the chance that they score a touchdown? I don't know, 25, maybe 33, something like that. So you got a chance of even losing. Then when you go to overtime, you're kind of in the same situation. They go first. But what are the chances? You score a touchdown from first and 10 at the 25, it's going to be a lot less than 75 or 80. Right. And then remember, the rules have changed. So if you go to a third overtime, it's just a two point conversion, which means basically, Shannon, you're going to be running the same play you don't believe in right now. You Know what I mean?
Shannon
Yep.
Matt Jones
So I just, I kind of think, man, that like, you know, the numbers and the situation. Now if I'm playing a team that has an that, that whose offense is cooking or if I feel like my defense is elite or they've got a bad kicker, may maybe it's different, but in that particular situation I was good with it.
Caller
Okay.
Matt Jones
So I appreciate the call. I mean, I, you know, it could have been different in other situations, but I think the fact that they have such a good kicker to me means you give it back to him. Shannon, they're getting three. Right? Right.
Shannon
Situation you're at.
Matt Jones
And so at best, at best you're in the same situation. At worst, maybe they score a touchdown.
Shannon
Right.
Matt Jones
And you don't even have a chance to win. So if they had a bad kicker, maybe I would have a different view. But, but they didn't. Who's next?
Shannon
Let's go to Ben.
Matt Jones
Ben, go ahead, Ben. 859-280-2287.
Caller
Hey guys. So two things. One, the shade and sharp deal, contract extension just makes me even more mad that he didn't play a single.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller
A single minute when he was here. Second of all, just watching Saturday's game, that was the best game I think I've seen Kentucky play in Central Levis was here, to be honest. But I'm with you about going on, going forward on fourth down, like you said, worst case scenario. But as far as it goes, I am not hopeful for the rest of the season. Now Tennessee is going to come in and do what Tennessee always does. I'm not going to get hyped thinking that's going to happen. But as far as that goes, am I crazy to think that it's best that we just keep Mark Stoops for another year with all the coaching jobs open?
Matt Jones
Well, let's talk about that. That's actually you lead into what I was going to do next segment. So let's talk about that after we after returning because there are more coaching changes on the horizon. We'll be right back. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney.
Ryan Lemond
Call tj.
Matt Jones
He'll make them pay.
Shannon
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. Kee Sports Radio, Amazon Web Services. Shannon is what's down.
Shannon
Okay.
Matt Jones
So if you have a website that goes through Amazon Web services, that's why it's not. I don't know if does the Lexington studio run through Amazon?
Shannon
I think that's what we've learned today.
Ryan Lemond
Is that it does every station in buildings, having issues. And I guess you guys had issues last night doing your podcast.
Matt Jones
We did. We couldn't get. We had to do cover zero at our house, so. Because we couldn't. We couldn't get on there either, so. Yeah, maybe that's what's happening. What person writes on the text machine? Matt, I saw Drew with your twin at Keeneland. First of all, don't say that. It's not my twin. And he was wearing a cowboy hat. Is Drew's new thing cowboy hat? I don't know. Is it Drew?
Drew
No, but, you know, we. We paid pretty. Pretty good dollar for that cowboy hat. Now, I've only worn it a few times, so. With text? Yeah. Actually, I wasn't planning on it. I was heading out for Keeneland, and my wife was like, you can wear your cowboy hat. And I said, well, you know what? Now you mentioned it. Yeah. So they were just. Yeah. They had taken over Lexington. If you can't beat him, join them.
Matt Jones
Yeah. All right. Well, it looked good. Like you. He looks like he's gonna ride rope.
Drew
I'm not riding any rope. I ride zero rope.
Shannon
Well, I saw how much you guys pay for those hats, so you might as well wear them when you saw the receipts.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I will say you can't take them on a plane because you have to carry them the whole way, and that's no fun through the airport, so I get it.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew
I actually got to hang with your. Your twin for a little bit in Brock Oswalder on Friday at Keeneland, and then I actually sat right next to them at dinner, so I was with them a lot. And he's very familiar with the joke. And now that I've been with him in person, it is pretty eerie how similar you all look. It's not just like a screenshot.
Matt Jones
I don't need to hear. I don't need to listen.
Shannon
Does he drink a diet Coke?
Matt Jones
A couple of people. You're asking about the show this week. So tomorrow. Not sure where we're going to be yet tomorrow. If it'll be in the bar or studio, I'll. I'll try to tweet that out. We will be in the bar Wednesday and Thursday, and then Friday. Ryan, we are at Don Franklin in Lexington to get ready for the Purdue game, Correct?
Ryan Lemond
I'm not for sure which Don Franklin.
Matt Jones
We are not for sure which one it is either, but it'll be at Don Franklin in Lexington for the Purdue game Friday. Also, tomorrow night at ksbar, they're having something drew called quiz night with Quiz what does that mean?
Drew
Quiz night with Quiz night with Quiz. That. That's a curve ball for me. I would assume most quiz nights would come with a quiz.
Matt Jones
Well, this guy, maybe this guy's name's Quiz. Oh, okay.
Shannon
It's gotta be.
Matt Jones
It's gotta be. But they're giving prizes every round so you can win. So if you've ever, if you, if you, if you're like, you know, Matt's trivia is too hard or he gets too mad at people for asking questions. That does happen sometimes, Shannon, because people ask.
Shannon
I understand.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Quiz night with quiz. Tomorrow night starts at 6 o' clock if you want to quiz with quiz. All right, let's talk for a second about coaches. Billy Napier gets fired. Got fired after a win after they beat Mississippi State.
Drew
Just beat Texas.
Shannon
How does that even happen?
Matt Jones
That feels rude.
Shannon
Vacation.
Matt Jones
Like he's going to lose at some point this year. Why don't you at least let him lose? His last game Fires him after a win. He's now out. So let's just talk about the jobs that are already open. Okay, for next year. Penn State's open, Florida's open. Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, ucla, Virginia Tech. You're probably going to also see Auburn come open, unless something crazy happens. And you're probably also going to see at least Florida State come open. Their ad said, we are exploring all options for our football team in the program. That doesn't make you confident, Shannon, if you're the coach going forward, right? Right.
Shannon
Yeah, not at all.
Matt Jones
So you have some power jobs that are going to be open. I mean, just obviously Penn State, Florida State, Auburn and Florida are better jobs and certainly Arkansas, ucla, Virginia Tech, I mean, those jobs can. Are equal or some people would think they're better, depending on how you look at it. Do you think, Ryan, it changes whether you make a decision based on what other jobs are open or. Or do you do what you're going to do and it doesn't matter what other jobs are open?
Ryan Lemond
I think you have to consider it. I think you got to take into consideration a little bit. You look at these other jobs and some of these top. There are only so many good, top candidates. And there are some better jobs than your job already hanging out there. So I think you have to consider it a little bit, don't you?
Matt Jones
Well, I kind of go the opposite, Drew, because if you decide you don't want to make a change to weight, I mean, then you're going to lose all these candidates. You know, in theory, let's say there's Seven good candidates and there's nine jobs. Okay. In theory, if you're one of the ones to go after it, you might get one of the seven. If you wait, then you're definitely going to get none of the seven. And then you got to hope new candidates emerge next year, which I guess they could, but I. You know, and it also may just be the case, Drew. This is just going to happen every year now in today's college football. So you. When it's your turn, it's your turn.
Drew
That's what nailed it for me. Two things. One, you can't worry about everyone else. I know it's not ideal that there are better jobs open this cycle, but if you got problems at home, you got to fix your problems at home, regardless what else is happening in the neighborhood. But also, this could be every season. This could just be how college basketball or college football is going to look for a little while, as everyone's still figuring out this new era. You're also going to have several more on the list that aren't on there yet. Like in Auburn, they're still in for. That's probably going to open up.
Matt Jones
Well, let's look who's just in the sec. Florida's open. Auburn. Arkansas is open. Auburn's going to be open. And there's a decent chance South Carolina will be open because Beamer might go to Virginia Tech or he might get fired if they don't get better.
Drew
What about lsu?
Matt Jones
A possibility, depending on how they finish with lsu. So, I mean, you got a lot of squad EC jobs open, but I still say, Shannon, if you determine you need to make a change, I don't think you can worry about what the other schools are doing.
Shannon
Yeah. And I think you're right that you're going to be running into the same situation again next year if you decide to bring them back. So if it's time to make a change, you got to do it, not worry about what everybody else is doing.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think it's one of those, you know, like my. My grandfather, you say, if everybody else was jumping off a cliff, would you? Well, no, but if you have to jump off a cliff, you have to jump off a cliff regardless of what anyone's doing.
Caller
Right.
Matt Jones
And I still think the other thing is, I think it's very important to realize that there are some top contenders for jobs that have connections to Kentucky. And I don't know, Ryan, how many times that'll happen. I mean, if you were to ask the average person, who are the 10 hottest candidates for jobs in the country. How many times are three of them gonna have strong connections to the University of Kentucky and Sumrall Wilstein and Brian Hartline all have those connections? I'm not sure that'll ever happen again.
Ryan Lemond
Do you know a guy was making the same argument you just said he goes and then you can throw in Brad White. You know, there's four maybe potential.
Matt Jones
I don't think fans can. Fans you can't. I mean, my personal view, if you're going to bring in Brad White, just keep Mark Stoops. Why am I paying $40 million to get rid of Mark Stoops to keep Brad White?
Ryan Lemond
I think he's a top candidate that'll go probably get a head job.
Matt Jones
So would you pay $40 million to get rid of Stoops to just keep Brad White?
Ryan Lemond
I don't know If I'd pay 40 million to take anybody.
Matt Jones
But seriously, like Drew, is there an argument to do that?
Drew
No. I think when Stoops his time is up, it needs to be complete overhaul.
Matt Jones
That to me would be, you want a decision that'll make my head explode? Pay the buyout and then make Brad White the coach. Because, Shannon, if you're going to have Brad White, why would you even get rid of Stoops? Just keep him in Brad White states too.
Shannon
You got both. It's already two for one right now, so you might as well hang on.
Matt Jones
That would be. That would be the most bizarre decision possible. I can get some. Makes a lot more sense to keep Stoops than to do that.
Shannon
Yeah, you go get another offensive coordinator.
Matt Jones
Yeah, at least for me. Who's next?
Shannon
Brian.
Matt Jones
Brian. Go ahead. Brian.
Caller
Brian can hear me, guys?
Matt Jones
Yes. Take me off Bluetooth.
Caller
You are off Bluetooth, sir.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Caller
Hey, two quick questions. One, am I the only one that thought Cutter Bowley was snapped in the end zone?
Matt Jones
I thought he. They could have called that. I mean, they could have called it. I think. I think there was an argument he wasn't. But if they had made the argument he was, I'm not sure there's much we could have done about it.
Caller
Yeah, I have to agree. It looked awful close. And second, have you seen what the NFL defenses are trying to do against the. The Tush push, so to speak?
Matt Jones
Yeah, we talked about that on Cover Zero last night, which you can listen to on podcast. Appreciate the call, Ryan. They just had. The Vikings just had to do to lay down.
Shannon
What do they call that?
Matt Jones
I don't know.
Shannon
I saw like the tabletop or something. They're called.
Matt Jones
They Called it a tabletop.
Shannon
Yeah. You just laid out and then they just pile on top of the guy.
Matt Jones
Do you like being the guy who's just like. You get to lay down and be at the bottom of the pile.
Ryan Lemond
You know, why not just put your biggest fattest guys and put them up there and just tell them just to lay down so they snap the ball.
Matt Jones
Well, that's what they did. Yep, that's exactly what they did. Drew, it worked. They got a false start. So somebody else will probably try to do it, too.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew
Even Jason Kelsey, one of the original pushers of the Tush compliment him, said, I like the teams are trying new things. I can see why this would work. And he expects more of it.
Matt Jones
Yeah. DraftKings bet $5. You can get up to $200 in bonus bets if you win. There's two Monday night games, but let's not do that. Let's do game seven of the Major League Baseball. American League playoffs. Mariners, Blue Jays. It's going to be sad for baseball when these two Monday night games both outrage game seven of the alcs. But they will because of who these teams are. Nevertheless, it's been a good series. Mariners, Blue Jays. Game seven, I guess. Let's see who the pitchers are. You got George Kirby for the Mariners, Shane Bieber. Bieber for the Blue Jays. Who you got? Shannon.
Shannon
I'm really pulling from Seattle. Would love to see them get their first World Series win, but I think tonight Toronto wins and goes to the World Series to play the Dodgers.
Matt Jones
All right, Ryan.
Ryan Lemond
Seattle, you know, went up to all in the series and they were smoking the ball, but, man, Toronto is just a hitting machine. They're on a roll right now. I'm going with Toronto.
Drew
Drew, I can't do Toronto. I know they're the favorite, but I'm riding with Seattle. And the big dumper. The big dumper can't let Canada or the Blue Jays get in the World Series.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'm kind of. I'm going to pick Seattle because I think it would be, you know, everybody's going to be rooting against the Dodgers and it would be nice to have a team that's never won a World Series go against them. It's kind of a fight for the soul of baseball. How about Shohei, by the way, is that the greatest game anyone's ever played?
Drew
Yes.
Matt Jones
Home runs and 10 strikeouts in one game.
Shannon
Never been done. First player in Major League Baseball history to have those numbers in a game.
Matt Jones
Would you go so far as to say the greatest game ever played?
Ryan Lemond
Probably.
Shannon
I mean, yeah, to get the win.
Ryan Lemond
On the mound and hit three home runs in the same game. That's pretty impressive.
Matt Jones
And 10 strikeouts.
Ryan Lemond
And 10 strikeouts.
Drew
If anyone's saying it's not, you need to show me the game that's better.
Matt Jones
I don't claim to be a baseball historian. I'll accept the argument there might be one better, but I need to see what it is. You know, I guess you could argue he doesn't play in the field. Although he did play in the field when he played pitcher. Right?
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So yeah, it's got to be the greatest game ever played. We'll take a break and be right back. 859-280-2287 KSR.

Go to shadyrays.com best industry lost and Broken Replacements Guarantee with Shady Rays I want to give a quick shout out to the family of a guy from Bell county named Steve Kwood who passed away at 82. Steve was someone who always kind to me and my family. An activist in Appalachia fought for many many years for clean water and to for kind of average citizens and their health in Bell County. He also was part of a group that in 1964 met in Berea where they took all these young people in Appalachia to talk about projects for LBJ's War on Poverty that occurred in Berea and a lot of what ended up in it came from that, from my hometown and always a big advocate for, for me, but also this show. So prayers to the family of my good friend Steve Kwood. Shannon, you, you said that there are some games out there in contention to go against show.
Shannon
Yeah. So let's see if these are better than three home runs and 10 strikeouts. Back in 1977 we had Rennie Stanette who had seven hits in a nine inning game. That's pretty impressive.
Matt Jones
Seven. It's not, it's not a clinching game to go to the World Series.
Shannon
Okay. We're just talking about the game itself though. Just the game.
Matt Jones
I know, but I think the, the situation matters, right?
Shannon
Well, if the situation matters, then I might as well save my brother.
Matt Jones
All right, we'll keep reading the other ones. Okay.
Shannon
Bill Douglby in 1898 hit a grand slam in his major league debut. Pretty impressive. You don't like that.
Drew
Surely that's happened before.
Matt Jones
That's probably happened a lot.
Shannon
Tony Kloninger in 1966 hit two grand slams and pitched a complete game.
Matt Jones
That's good. That's pretty good. That's pretty good.
Shannon
Now this one may be the best one. 1971, Rick Wise hit two home runs and pitched a no hitter.
Matt Jones
Yeah, okay. Now that's really good.
Shannon
So I think might be that one's there.
Matt Jones
I still pick Shohei because of the context of when it happened, but I'd never heard of that. Ryan, two home runs and a no hitter. That's pretty good.
Ryan Lemond
I forgot that. But as soon as he said Rick Wise, I knew what was coming. Yeah, but that was just a regular season game for Ohtani to do it in the playoffs in that situation, on that stage, that's still to me a bigger. Got bigger game.
Matt Jones
That's a pretty impressive though, Shannon. That's a good one. All right, I have a question for you. What you all think real quick on a hockey question. Because the San Jose Sharks have played five games they have yet to win. My Carolina Hurricanes beat them once after their fifth loss. The coach was interviewed and he said, quote, I promise you this is true. I would give up one of my children for a victory.
Shannon
How many does he have? How many kids?
Matt Jones
He apparently has three.
Shannon
Oh, the middle child.
Drew
Right.
Shannon
That's the one he wants to get.
Matt Jones
Rid of, is it? If you are his kid and you hear, I would give up one of them. They're all fairly young too. I mean, I, I don't think he literally would do it, but he said he Even said, drew, I am serious. I would give up one of my kids for a victory. A regular season hockey victory.
Drew
I love it. If I were a Sharks fan, I'm embracing it. I mean he didn't say which kids. We don't have to make it awkward. When you see the kid, it reminds me Variable for the Titans a few years ago said he'd give up the thing that makes kids to win a Super bowl and we got fired up behind that. So I like this. I would support it even though it doesn't look like he's been in that good of a coach so far.
Matt Jones
Well, I feel like, I feel like Ryan, that's a little harsh to whatever children you have. One of these days they're going to grow up and go, really? You'd be you against the Utah Mammoth. You would have given us one of us up for a victory.
Shannon
Ryan would adopt it. That way you wouldn't be an empty nester anymore.
Ryan Lemond
Dad, you're only five games into the season.
Matt Jones
I know he's giving it up.
Shannon
He wants to get rid of that kid anyway. That's the thing.
Matt Jones
That's it.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah, maybe. So who's next?
Shannon
Wayne.
Matt Jones
Wayne. Go ahead. Wayne.
Caller
Hey, I was just, you know, everybody's talking about the last two did he went for. I assumed that this was going to be a close game and if you look at statistics, they had a 13 chance the way we held them the whole game of scoring a touchdown against us from the 25 yard line. But what about the first time he went for it? Why not? I mean you're playing a team that is supposedly way better than you put points on the board.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but see that's the reason why I go for it is the first part of that. You are playing a team way better than you. So you gotta, you got. This is your chance. I mean you could argue how many times you gonna be inside the 15 yard line. I think the answer to that question is the whole game. We were only inside once after that. So you know, I understand what you're saying. I appreciate the call but I kind of agree with what Mark Stoop said in the postgame which is if I didn't go for it on those two times, I would have gotten crushed by for being too conservative. And I think that's probably true. I think, I think most fans would have said how you not going for it? So I, I don't blame him going for it. I think it's the right call. I think the problem was the play calls. Who's next?
Shannon
Andrew.
Matt Jones
Andrew. Go ahead, Andrew.
Caller
Hey, Matt, you just mentioned, you know, Florida's already fired their coach. Auburn's probably going to fire their coach. So let's suppose Dukes beats Florida. He beats Auburn and beats Tennessee Tech to get the five wins. What do you think is the most likely scenario to end the season? Does he beat Vandy or Louisville to get to a bowl game? Does he lose two respectable games or does he get blown out in both games? And now you're wondering, oh, God, is he going to get fired?
Matt Jones
Great question. All right, so if you, if, if your scenario is we beat Florida, we beat Auburn, we beat Tennessee Tech, then that means we're playing pretty good. Appreciate the call. The most likely scenario is you lose two close games to Vandy and Louisville. And Drew, we get to the end of the year and we have no idea what's going to happen. That would be, to me, the most likely scenario.
Drew
Yeah, I can see that happening, except I'm. I think the. The Vandy game, no matter how Kentucky looks, is going to get ugly. That's Pavia's senior day. I know we loved how our defense look against Arch, but Pavia was doing whatever he wanted against LSU there. So of all the games left on this, I mean, they're a top 10 team now and they have game day coming. I'm confident we could sneak up and get Louisville even though they're ranked now. But that Vandy game scares me more.
Matt Jones
What are the odds I could have gotten three years ago on Vandy? Missouri will be a college game day game.
Shannon
Yeah.
Caller
Or.
Shannon
Or Vandy and Indiana both in the top 10.
Matt Jones
Indiana's number two.
Shannon
I mean, that's insane.
Matt Jones
Indiana's number two.
Shannon
Vandy and Indiana in the college football playoffs is a sentence I thought I would never say.
Ryan Lemond
Never.
Matt Jones
Yeah, and it's very plausible playing each other, maybe. Who knows? All right, thank you all very much. We will see you tomorrow. Have a great rest of your Monday. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.

Injury Update:

— Matt Jones ([07:35]-[08:28])
Game Script and Adjustments:
Fourth Down Decision Debate:

— Matt Jones ([30:51])
“When Stoops’ time is up, it needs to be a complete overhaul.”
— Drew ([32:27])
“Enes, I felt like was our guy. Shaedon Sharpe, I felt like was never our guy. And I don’t know why I feel that way. It’s just how I feel.”
— Ryan Lemond ([17:56])
“Three home runs and 10 strikeouts. Would you go so far as to say the greatest game ever played?”
— Matt Jones ([36:10])
“If anyone’s saying it’s not, you need to show me the game that’s better.”
— Drew ([36:18])
Coach’s Bold Statement: San Jose Sharks coach: “I would give up one of my children for a victory.” The crew debates the insanity and humor of that ([40:42]-[41:47]).
