All right, couple things. 859-280-2287 you know, I like 11 o' clock having some different news. All right. I read this. You know ice, they've been in the news. They come and they, they. Well, I'm not gonna get into It. I don't. I don't need to be getting. I don't need to get everybody worked up, but they come and they do ice things, okay? Now they. They. They are hiring, like, more ice people because they want to have more ice people. So they have hiring standards to go to ice. Here are the hiring standards. You have to be able to do 14 or 15 push ups, 32 sit ups, which seems like an oddly very specific number. 32 sit ups, and you have to be able to run a mile and a half in 14 minutes. So, you know, they've been flooding the ice academy with ice people, but. But now they're saying, hey, folks, y' all need to slow down sending us people, because 38 of the people they've sent cannot do those things. So they've gone to the academy. As soon as they've gotten there, they've had to go back home because they can't do those things. So here's my question for the group. Could you do that today? 15 push ups, 32 sit ups, a mile and a half in 14 minutes. Ryan?

I could do the push ups. I could do the setups, but there's not a chance I could do the mile in 15 minutes, mile and a.

Because I don't run a lot, but I walk a lot. I. I think I could do it, but I think it'd be really.

I've got a bum arm, but even with a good arm, I. I don't know.

I'm not. I know this may surprise you. I'm not huge on upper body strength. I don't have. You know, I don't let. Ma', Am, I don't lift weights as much as you probably think I do. I'm not pumping a lot of iron, so I don't know if that's. I don't know if I'm gonna be able to do it.

I decided about a year or two ago. Barring a fire or someone chasing me, I'm just not running like that. Don't have a need to run.

[Matt Jones]

You have shin splints, right?

[Drew Franklin]

I did. Those have gotten better. Believe those aside, I don't want excuse. I'm just not running. I've decided I'm. Unless it's an emergency, I'm not running.

So we think Shannon's in ice and.

It can do it.

I would probably just not choose to be in it. But maybe if I did a little practice. But you to say no.

They shouldn't be able to wear masks. All right. When did we get to a world where we have our policemen in mask? Like, that's that. Put everything else aside. We should not have policemen in mass. We're. We've been out of control. Now we're Too out of control when you're getting G league commitments in college basketball.

I can't believe that's allowed. I really can't.

Yeah, I'm good with. I mean, I. First of all, it's a rule that's allowed. I didn't know it was a rule. I actually had no idea it was a rule. So put aside. But I'm so. And I think Louisville, if it's a rule, should certainly do it. Would you agree?

Agreed.

If it's a rule and it's allowed, then Louisville should do it. Like, the point is not if you don't like a rule. It's. It's like I say, with taxes, there are many things on the tax code that I do not think people should be able to exploit. But if I can, I should do it. Right. Even if I don't agree with it, I should do it. Why would you? Why wouldn't you? Same thing here. I'm good with it because of this. It was a G league ignite player, which is one of those people that didn't play college basketball. The G league ignite is for people who, like, didn't get drafted. I'm fine with it. I'll even go further. I think we should have a system where when these guys get drafted, if they're not ready to play in the NBA, let them play in college. Why not? That's how it used to be. People forget about that. Like, Larry Bird was drafted by the Celtics and then went back to Indiana State for a year.

Kyle Macy did it here.

He got drafted a year early, came back, played one more year, and then went to the Suns, I believe.

See, I didn't even know that. So I'm fine with it. I don't think you should be able to take an NBA salary in the NBA. And come back. But I don't. College basketball has a chance to be the number one developmental system in the world for basketball. Why not just do it? Like, why not just do it? What's the harm? What's the harm? I'm not opposed to drafting them and storing them here, I guess. Really? I just don't understand what the G league ignite is right now.

[Matt Jones]

I think it's going away.

Yeah, it's more of just the G league ignite thing. I don't understand. It feels like a college, but with NBA affiliation.

I had an agent tell me a couple days ago they think the G League in general may go away and that the NBA may just say, why am I paying for this G League? Let's just send all these people to college. Let's let college do this for free. Why are we paying to do it when college basketball can do it? And I think there's something to that, right?

[Ryan Lemond]

I mean, we've got yellow vicinity who played professionally, you know.

[Matt Jones]

Well, that's the other argument. If these guys can play professionally in Europe and then play college basketball, then why can't they play professionally in America and play college basketball? We're literally making it easier. I'm not, not trying to sound MAGA here, but we're literally making it easier for foreigners to play basketball than we are Americans. Why would you do that?

[Drew Franklin]

Doesn't make sense. It's so inconsistent that you can go over and make a big check playing pro basketball, but just because it wasn't the NBA, you're able to play.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, so I'm actually fine with it. I mean, at Louisville, people took my tweet about it as criticism. It was not criticism. I literally didn't know it was a rule. You're gonna see more people do this. Why wouldn't you take a 20 year old that's played two years of G League? That's gonna be better than a high school kid, isn't it?

[Ryan Lemond]

Yeah. And with the transfer portal, you get these older kids. Building your rush with older kids anyway, so I can see why it could.

[Matt Jones]

Be a success finally. Travis Perry and Jordan Burks, two former cats. Travis Perry plays in a his first exhibition game. Ole Miss plays at Houston preseason number two Ole Miss wins Travis Perry for three pointers. You concerned at all that Travis Perry is going to be Johnny Ju zanging it up for Ole Miss this year?

[Drew Franklin]

I'm not concerned. I am happy for Travis that he had a big game. I hope it goes well at Ole Miss. But as a Kentucky fan, I'm not, you know, better. Night having nightmares about what Travis Perry could do. But I'm genuinely happy they had a big game and hope it goes well for him.

I'm going to be one of those guys. I hope he does that every game he plays in, except against us. I hope he does great success down there. I think we all are big Travis Perry fans.

All right. What about Central Florida? You probably didn't follow. They played Duke last night. Jordan Burks, you guys remember that guy he played at Kentucky? Jordan Burks had 25 points, 18 in the first half. Central Florida led Duke at halftime and Jordan Burks had 18. What about Jordan Burks?

That one's pretty surprising. Not much of a factor here at uk. I remember interviewing him when he first got here and he was big on being a one and done and the whole Cal thing.

He was one and done here.

I think he went on to Georgetown. Maybe now another stop. But yeah, no, that one surprises me. Didn't see much of that potential while he was here.

A Tennessee win is probably the best thing he could do because it's probably even bigger than a Texas win because Tennessee's our rival and we lose to them so much. So you think that would be fair. And then, I mean, I don't know why the last guy was so bad about Dan Mullen, because I feel like that would be a lot better than probably what we have now. Because I think Mark Stoops his first 10 years was objectively a successful coach at Kentucky.

Yeah, I think Vandy's done this before, too. This is the move. Safety first. Let the players get out of the way, then go have your celebration. What's it hurt to wait four or five more seconds to dodge Shannon?

[Matt Jones]

Is that a nerdy way to storm the field? We need to do this in an orderly way. Everyone wait your turn. And now let's storm the field.

To me, it's not the same as just in the moment storming the field, but it's smart on their part. They don't get the fine and they still get the storm.

They still got to storm the field. So you're good with it? Yeah. All right. Texas Tech apparently had a tradition that I did not know, which is that during the game, was it during the intro or after the game? At some point?

During. Not the. Not after the game. I don't think it's either beginning or during.

I think during the game or beginning of the game, they throw tortillas onto the field. Y. I don't know how they got into this tradition. They just whip tortillas from the stands and throw them onto the field. Apparently they've been doing this for years. The Big 12 says now no more tortilla throwing. $100,000 fine. If this. I. I guess it started something about when an announcer said, there's nothing here in Lubbock but a tortilla tech and a tortilla factory. So the students started taking that and bringing tortillas to the game and throwing them at the.

Do they do it just on when they play a certain opponent, or is it every home game?

[Matt Jones]

I'm not sure, but I do. Okay. You all talked me into it. If that's what an announcer said and it was a natural thing, then. Then I'm. I think I'm good.

If somebody said Lexington is nothing but a bunch of bums and hamburger buns and we started throwing hamburger buns.

[Matt Jones]

They'Re just def. Community. I like the story we found out about Seth McGowan going to the. We knew he went to the hospital, but apparently during the game, he had to go to the hospital because they were worried about his chest. I don't know. But so he worried about his chest. They take him out of the stadium on a golf cart. He rides past people on the way in his uniform, and they're like, hey, hope you're okay, Seth. He goes. He claims he had to rip the IVs out of his arm. That's not good. I hope he didn't do that. They don't recommend that. And then he rode. Now, this is the cool part. He got back on the cart and they drove him back through the tailgate lot into the stadium, and people were cheering him coming back in. If we had won, that would have been one of the cooler things that's ever happened, right?

[Drew Franklin]

Yes. And I had doubts about this, to be honest, when the broadcast said it, because he wasn't gone very long when he came back in. And I thought, I know the hospitals right there. But there's no way he actually did this. But here in the story makes it so much better and confirms it. When he got to the hospital, he borrowed someone's phone to watch the game. While they were checking him out, the.

[Matt Jones]

Article said, like, as he was going through its words started, because, you know, if you've never been to a game, there are people out there watching the game outside on their televisions. Like, word started traveling that he was coming and, like, kids were running with the golf carts. And I mean, that's kind of like a Willis Reed moment, you know, I.

[Ryan Lemond]

Totally love that part of the story that he was getting applause, that he was driving back to the stadium. And if he could have somehow found a way to punch in that game winning touchdown, he'd be a hero here forever.

[Matt Jones]

I agree. So I kind of feel bad. It's like one of those, what a moment. It would have been like James Young's dunk against UConn in 2011. Like, we lost. So that dunk or Patrick Sparks shot that bounces on the rim. There are these moments that if we had just won the game. Yep, Seth McGowan would have been one of those.

[Drew Franklin]

It'd be a very cool story. I wish we had video of the people in the hospital. You know, you're in there, you cut your finger making chili, watching football, and then suddenly Seth McGowan, full pads, walks in and cuts the line in front of you. That had to be pretty surreal for everyone around.

My question is, did he have to wait like I had to? When I go to the emergency room, sir, it'll be two hours. We don't have a bed, these forms.

Hi. Good morning, guys. I just wanted my question with kind of all the issues with college football now with Penn State firing their coach, Florida, and who knows, maybe Florida State at the end of the season, do you think that affects Kentucky's decision at all with Mike Stoops?

[Matt Jones]

I would argue, and I've said this for the last few days, I appreciate the call. What these other schools being open, even if there's a lot should not change. You either want to make a change or you don't. And if you want to make a change, you make it. I think, you know, the reality is you don't know how many jobs are going to be open next year. Drew. There might be more jobs open next year. You don't know. I think you got to go.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. I mean, even though we're not stupid.

[Matt Jones]

Decide you're going to do it.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, we're not stupid. We know there are better jobs than Kentucky that are open, but it's a loser mentality to be like, oh, no, we can't do it now because this is out there.

If you have a problem, you fix it and don't sweat the other opportunities out there that you're going up against.

[Matt Jones]

And I think it assumes, Ryan, that there are only a few coaches that can do this. This the code. There is a coach out there. In the grand scheme of college football. There is a coach for Kentucky. There is someone out there who can win here and win at a big level. Your job is to find them.

[Ryan Lemond]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And I don't think there's just one. I think there are multiple people who can win. Right. So the question is, can you find that person? And so I think that it might not be your first choice, but, like, it might be somebody none of us have ever heard of. I mean, let's use Mark Pope as an example. I thought Mark Pope was like the 9th choice or 10th choice for me, and it's worked. And I think some of those people, we didn't get, you know, I think they would have worked, too. I think there's multiple people that you can make work.

[Ryan Lemond]

And on the football side, Rich Brooks was probably the 5th, 6th, 7th choice. He won here. Mark Stoops was the 5th, 6th, seventh choice. He won here.

[Matt Jones]

I Will say, if you go back to when they hired Mark Stoops and you go look at the list of guys Mitch talked to, they all ended up having success. He did a pretty good job compiling that list. I mean, Sonny Dykes was on that list.

[Drew Franklin]

Wasn't Lincoln Riley.

[Matt Jones]

Lincoln Riley was on that list. I mean, he had a. His list of guys. Drew ended up being a pretty good list.

[Drew Franklin]

And I think now more than ever people might want the Kentucky job. I know some people say the opposite, but if you're a coach and you pull up the top 25 poll right now, there are logos we haven't seen in that poll ever. And you're, as we've said many times as fans, they're thinking, Woof, Indiana, Vandy, BYU, Georgia Tech are top 15. Give me Kentucky's job with that money and I can do it too.

Yeah, I think there's only one or two. I think there's only like two coaches that have an assistant coach buyout. It's probably the two courts actually. I think Bush's is over this year. So my Brad White might be the only major, but there might be small buyouts for those other guys. But I think Brad White's probably the only one of any significance. And it's probably half million dollars or something. Not something that would change the overall accounting.

Okay, and then my second question was, so since Jeff Brahms names being mentioned kind of for Florida, do you think that Vince would follow him to Florida or do you think he would try to find his way back to where he belongs?

[Matt Jones]

You know, it's a great question. I mean, I certainly could see a world Vince as a coach here again, I don't think it's going to be immediate. Appreciate the call. It won't be while Jeff's at Louisville. But if Jeff were to leave Louisville. Yeah, but I don't. Why would Jeff leave Louisville? I mean, they're going to pay him as much as he can make anywhere else. Don't you think he went there? He grew up there.

[Drew Franklin]

I'm actually surprised that his name is high as it is at Florida even just from how good he is. I mean, he's been good at Louisville, but I'm in my brain. I don't have him as Florida should be after him. But, I mean, it's just gambling odds and message boards. But his name is everywhere for that job. I mean, that's surprising to me.

[Matt Jones]

It is. It's a little surprising to me that Jeff is.

[Drew Franklin]

I mean, and he's a Louisville guy.
