Nmlsconsumeraccess.Org welcome to hour two of Kentucky sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back our number two Kentucky Sports Radio 859-280-2287 Text Machine 772-774-5254 Just so you know, Brett McMurphy just put out worst records against power conference teams since last season. We have the second worst record. Only Purdue has a worse. Purdue is 0:15. We are 1 in 12.
Drew Franklin
That's fun for us. We really are in the conversation of the worst team in college football right now. The power conferences, the whole touchdown streak thing where we haven't had three touchdowns since my 10th birthday or whatever it was. It's these. Cory Price has like a new one every day to their damning statistics.
Matt Jones
Yeah. All right, so you had a couple details about the Chauncey Billups poker thing. What was it?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I guess this is out of the press conference, but I'm seeing it tweeted by Chad Millman who we know and trust. But it wasn't just that they were doing illegal poker. This says they had X ray machines built into the tables to read face down cards. Secret cameras in card trays. And this is.
Matt Jones
Oh, no, you got secret cameras.
Drew Franklin
This is the craziest part. They work contact lenses that could read marks on cards so they could know what cards were because the contacts they were wearing.
Matt Jones
Yeah. He needs to go ahead and pack his bags. Yeah, that's. That's not good. If, if that's true, that's not good.
Ryan Lemond
Wow.
Drew Franklin
He's gonna have a lot of time to play cards in the future in prison. If that's all true. That's outrageous.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Someone with that, worth that much money to do something that extreme.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I guess you want to win on the, on the cards. All right, a couple things here. Let's. Let's go over first of all, the Wimby. Did you see Wimby last night?
Ryan Lemond
He was unbelievable last night.
Matt Jones
Freak of nature.
Ryan Lemond
He is a freak free.
Matt Jones
I mean, like, literally, if he keeps playing like that, if he keeps playing like that, he'll be the best player we've ever seen. Like Michael Jordan, LeBron, that debate. I'm not putting Wimby above them. He's not. But if he plays like he did last night, if he is, like, Anthony Davis is one of the best defenders in basketball. And he just. That was against Anthony Davis. That wasn't against some chump. That was against Anthony Davis. And that pump fake where he did a reverse slam and barely jumped. Stop it. And then crossover hits, a three and he's fouled. The dude is seven foot four. He scored 40 points.
Caller
He.
Matt Jones
He only played like 28 minutes. He didn't even play the full game. Forget it. If that's what he is and he doesn't get hurt, he'll be the best player that ever played, period. No one's ever going to be better than that.
Drew Franklin
And he was like, missed a 15 to 20 from the field, made all his free throws. It was just an insane performance. And the disbelief on the people trying to guard him is my favorite part.
Matt Jones
And he's already the best defensive player in the league, so I mean, like, he'll be the best defensive player every game he ever plays. So then you throw in that. Forget it. I mean, I don't expect him to be like that all time, but if he is like that all time, forget it. There'll be nobody, no one can guard that.
Drew Franklin
Cooper flags the number one pick, and there's clips of him looking at Wimby like, what are you. What am I supposed to do about this?
Matt Jones
I mean, just an absolute Freak of.
Ryan Lemond
Nature to be 7 foot 4 and could beat you on the dribble and then step back and hit a three pointer is just amazing.
Matt Jones
Cross you over and hit it. And it was Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis is. He and Rudy Gobert are the two best defensive big men in the league. And he did it to him. What do you think he's going to do to like Luke Cornett? I mean like it's. Forget it.
Drew Franklin
You don't think Walker Kessler's got something dialed up for him when they play Utah?
Ryan Lemond
The one is that prefer he's like.
Drew Franklin
Flat footed when he's dunking. It looks so silly.
Matt Jones
That play is one of the most amazing plays I've ever seen in my life.
Ryan Lemond
I think it's P.J. washington. He beat on that play, wasn't it? He pumped fake.
Matt Jones
I mean he was killing Kentucky players left and right on in that. So I mean I. If you weren't watching, you just got to go see those highlights. I mean there were two or three highlights in that game that are as good as any NBA highlight I've ever seen.
Drew Franklin
Almost ran to bet them to win the championship. Because if that's really what he's going to be, I don't know how you can take down the Spurs.
Matt Jones
It's going to be hard for his body to hold together. I mean 7 foot 4, like tall guys like that, they get feet problems. They get shin problems like that. That's the thing. But if he doesn't. That's an unbelievable, unbelievable sight. All right. Did you see that? Students from Trinity High School in Whitesville, Kentucky, which is in Davis County. I didn't know we had another Trinity High School.
Ryan Lemond
It's called Whitesville Trinity.
Matt Jones
Whitesville Trinity. I did not know we had two trinities. But they were at the Louvre when the break in occurred. And they were about to walk into the room where they broke in. They were outside the room and according to them, they heard a chainsaw cutting glass and decided. Decided to go the other way.
Ryan Lemond
Smart move, I guess on their part. Get out of the way.
Matt Jones
Good decision.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Secondly house Whitesville Trinity got the money to go the Louvre in high school. I didn't know you had that kind of money. Whitesville Trinity. But nevertheless, that's kind of crazy.
Ryan Lemond
Heck yeah.
Matt Jones
You got to. You talk about witnessing history.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
I mean we went to the Corvette Museum. I think that was our biggest museum.
Matt Jones
We went to Kings Island.
Drew Franklin
Oh, lucky. But how neat is that? I mean you're. This is like an international story.
Matt Jones
It's huge news.
Drew Franklin
And you're just a room over when it all happens.
Matt Jones
It turns out they didn't use a hammer to get in. They used a hammer to break the. The glass with the jewels. They used it to get in the window outside. They used a chainsaw to the glass. Have you seen the video of them running around?
Drew Franklin
I haven't seen video. I've just seen the ladder pictures.
Matt Jones
There's like video of them running around inside. They don't look like the most professional group in the world. They're like running around going, hey, hit that, hit that. There you go. I mean, like you can.
Ryan Lemond
But they knew what they were after, man. They were in and out, what they say seven and a half minutes.
Matt Jones
But to me, seven and a half minutes, Shannon, feels like a long time to not catch them. I mean, like, if they were in there for seven and a half minutes, feels like that's a long time for.
Ryan Lemond
Them to be in there.
Producer or Call Screen
All the guards just ran the other way.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, all the guards were like, I'm out here, they don't pay me enough.
Ryan Lemond
Are the guards the one that kind of shoed the Whitesville Trinity students out too? Like, let's go. Get out, get out.
Matt Jones
Whitesville Trinity students said they. They heard the sounds of a chainsaw to glass. And then people started running. And it was like that old, what was it, Cedric the Entertainer joke. We don't wait to see why people are running. We just run, releasing them. So they just ran and then. And got.
Drew Franklin
I don't need no run coordinator if you're running.
Matt Jones
No run coordinator if you running. I'm running. That's what Whitesville Trinity did.
Ryan Lemond
My first ever play by play was white at Whitesville Trinity. They really were hosting Drakesboro from Muhlenberg County.
Matt Jones
Drakesboro's a school.
Ryan Lemond
It was. They consolidated into Muhlenberg county now.
Matt Jones
Well, you had. Look at you with the Whitesville Trinity. Did you know they had Louvre money?
Ryan Lemond
I did not. Darrell Waltrip and Michael Waltrip started their go kart racing in Whitesville.
Matt Jones
Really?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You're full of all kinds of information. This guy didn't know Eric Monday. But you knew all this. Leslie County High School in Eastern Kentucky. Their football coach, I think his name is Brian Hubbard, has been suspended for two games for inappropriate language. They said he used inappropriate language in front of the team and he suspended for two games. Now my. Here was my take on this story when I saw it. I've been to Leslie County. I love the people of Leslie county, but it must have been really inappropriate. I mean, how Inappropriate. Was this language for it to shock the people of Leslie County? You know, I mean, this is. That's Tim Couch country. I don't know. I mean, first of all, do you think you should suspend coaches for cursing in general?
Drew Franklin
We would not have any coaches.
Matt Jones
There would be no coach.
Ryan Lemond
I'll be suspended.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right. So you're good with curse my sixth grade football coach. So do we think. What do we think happened in this room that would lead to not fireable. What is so inappropriate that you're suspended but you're not fireable? I would assume something like sexual would get you fired and cursing probably wouldn't get you suspended. So what's the middle ground?
Producer or Call Screen
Something derogatory.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So you think it's like. Yeah, add a player. Derogatory, probably. That's probably a good call.
Drew Franklin
I think it would have to be pretty specific and maybe even aimed at someone or some people.
Matt Jones
Like you're a blanket. Okay, pointing at the kid.
Drew Franklin
But let, let's go beat their bleep in. You know that happens every.
Matt Jones
Their bleeps.
Drew Franklin
They're bleeping bleep. Let's go knock their bleeping heads. You know, that's normal.
Ryan Lemond
But if the coach made it, like you guys said, personal against a group of guys or individual person, maybe that's where he. Maybe that's where he crossed the line.
Matt Jones
I'm going to do this. It's never popular, the text. The only thing the text machine likes less than my opinion on ice wearing mask is when I talk about cussing. I don't understand even to this day why it's okay for coaches to cuss like they do. If your science teacher were to curse at you, they would be fired. If your math teacher were to curse at you, they'd be fired.
Producer or Call Screen
I think mine did.
Matt Jones
Your math teacher cursed at you. What did you do that was so bad at math?
Producer or Call Screen
I was that bad at math.
Matt Jones
You were so bad at math, they cussed at you.
Drew Franklin
This teacher got suspended.
Matt Jones
You are the dumbest, bleepity dumbest.
Producer or Call Screen
So.
Matt Jones
I don't understand why we. I don't understand why we think it's okay. I really don't. We don't allow that in any other form. But for some reason coaches just get to do whatever they want to do.
Ryan Lemond
And if the player clapped back, if.
Matt Jones
The player cussed, he'd be expelled from school.
Ryan Lemond
There you go.
Matt Jones
The coach can say anything to that player and it's fine. And if the player. And the player could be 18, a senior in high school, say Something back. You're kicked out of school. It's. It just. It's to me, like, I don't understand how we allow that.
Ryan Lemond
Drew.
Matt Jones
I've never understood.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I know. You're getting in their face. You're trying to squeeze out every little bit energy. Have. It's not like science, where they're in.
Matt Jones
Your face, like, do the periodic table.
Drew Franklin
You know, they're really trying to get you to reach a level you don't normally reach in your performance. But I understand what you're saying. You don't have to f bomb them all the time. But it's everywhere. Yeah, even young teams, I mean, they hear.
Matt Jones
Well, ask Ryan. I mean, Ryan. Ryan does the same thing.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know what you're saying.
Matt Jones
I mean, you. You've admitted to cursing as a coach, right?
Ryan Lemond
No, I haven't.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay. I thought you did. Didn't you get. No.
Drew Franklin
He hit a kid in the face with a ball.
Matt Jones
Hit a kid in the face. That's right.
Drew Franklin
Unintentionally.
Matt Jones
Sorry.
Ryan Lemond
Little.
Matt Jones
Little Morgan. How dare me? Little Morgan. You looked at me like I was saying the most outrageous thing.
Ryan Lemond
I'm trying to think of which story you were talking about.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I forgot. It was the hitting the kid in the face. My bad. Accidentally.
Ryan Lemond
Accidentally.
Matt Jones
Yes. That's important to say. 8, 5, 9, 22, 87. Who's up next?
Producer or Call Screen
Justin.
Matt Jones
Justin, Go ahead, Justin.
Caller
Hey, Matt. Calling about yesterday's hour number two, and I just gotta say, it's probably one of the most disgusting things I ever heard you guys do is joking about ice while they're disappearing people off the street.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I know. I don't want to get into a political conversation. I don't want to get into political comments. I appreciate the call. I'm not going to do that. All right. I. You know, we. I gave you my opinion on something, and when I got on the text machine last night, I had people on the right and the left being mad at me. Your. Your criticism there's on the left. Our other people's criticism was on the right. That's what we do on this show. And so if I don't mean to be disrespectful to you, but as I've said before, when we say stuff, I don't want this show to turn into a political show. And if you. Your general point about there are some things that maybe you don't think we should joke about, I'll take that point. I disagree with you to some extent, but I'm fine with it. But I'm not going to sit here and have a political conversation on the show whether that's hypocritical or not. It's what we. It's the way we've always done it. Who's up next?
Producer or Call Screen
Jerry.
Matt Jones
Jerry. Go ahead, Jerry.
Caller
Hey, man, all I have to say is when I officiated football as long as the coach didn't say anything about my mother or my wife, he didn't get the hanky. Mother, wife. Stuff comes out. They got the hanky. Anyway on Auburn, supposedly stuff.
Matt Jones
Oh, the hanky. Sorry. Gotcha. Okay.
Caller
Okay. Mr. Yellowwood supposedly down there who's a big booster that runs everything right now because Oliver's a booster run program. Apparently he's still back in freeze. But these next two games against us and all and Arkansas, if he loses one of those games, he very well could be gone. And as far as summer all goes, the stuff I've heard is it he really wants to come to Kentucky but he's not going to wait around. And that's my big worry. And all this stuff.
Matt Jones
I don't know what the wait around is. John Sumrall is not going to take another job before his season ends. Right before his regular season ends. So I've heard people say, well, John Sumrall is not going to wait around. He's got to wait around till the end of the year. By the end of the year we'll have decided whether or not Mark Stoops is going to be the coach. Our game against Louis on a Saturday. We'll have an answer by Sunday, Monday at the latest. John Sumrall plays the week potentially in the championship of the American. He's not leaving before. He's not announced he's leaving for the season ends. So waiting around is not a. I'm not worried about waiting around.
Drew Franklin
Well, that's.
Caller
That's my big worry in all this honestly is with some more. Any of the top candidates is. I personally I think they gotta make a decision by. About Tennessee Tech. What they're going to do now if they. My worry is Barney waits until, you know, after Louisville. It's wringing his hands for two or three days trying to figure out what he's going to do. And by the time he makes up his mind, some of these guys are.
Matt Jones
He'll know. He's going to know going in the Louisville game unless we. And I appreciate the call unless we're 5 and 7 and the Louisville game takes you to a bowler.
Ryan Lemond
Right, right.
Matt Jones
Mitch will have made his decision one way or the Other by the Louisville game in my opinion I think the only scenario I can see where the Louisville game matters is if we're five and seven and Louisville sends you to a bowl drew or does not then it might matter.
Drew Franklin
And with tennis in Tennessee Tech before that, I mean should know even going into that one at that point you know what you're looking at and some raw with him in a hurry there they could be in the playoff. I mean I think they have the second best odds of the group of five teams. So his season could go real long.
Ryan Lemond
He's a guy that's bigger teams going to come after him and he's a good, good coach but there's not gonna.
Matt Jones
Be anything we can do. I mean if he wants to go to Auburn, Florida, Penn State, there's not anything we can do about that.
Ryan Lemond
Right. I don't care if he did play here. Still bigger better job.
Matt Jones
Now if we were to lose him to Oklahoma State because we didn't, that's a different question. It is but if he takes the Auburn job there wasn't going to be one thing Mitch Barnhart or anybody else could have done. No in my opinion because that just means he wants to be at a place that you win and we everybody.
Ryan Lemond
Kind of feels like those are going to go after him.

Starter with this I like this song.
Ryan Lemond
I do too.
Matt Jones
Even though so cheesy. Why are you so down on this? I told you he got up. He brought his son out there. I've been watching you. I like it. It makes you cry though, because you're a little sentimental. No, Ryan does cry over. Don't you?
Ryan Lemond
I can't start talking about it.
Matt Jones
Listen, Shannon, seriously, he cries over this song.
Producer or Call Screen
There's a lot of songs you could maybe cry listening. This can't be the one.
Matt Jones
You cry, he cries.
Ryan Lemond
Little buckaroo. You talk about your little kid and he's growing up.
Matt Jones
It's tough.
Drew Franklin
Who.
Matt Jones
Who's it by again? I saw him at Country Music.
Producer or Call Screen
Rodney Atkins.
Matt Jones
Rodney Atkins. Because he's from Harrogate, Tennessee. That's right. Right next to Middlesbrough. So yeah, you, you. We talked about this. He got his son up there at Country Music Fest. His son was not the best singer, but had him sing with him.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, what a moment. What a great moment.
Matt Jones
What a father son moment that made you cry from afar. You didn't even see it.
Ryan Lemond
No, I didn't. And this song, it just pulls at your heartstrings.
Matt Jones
Now, you went to see the Mumford Sons, like yesterday.
Drew Franklin
Yes, I saw Mumford, the Suns and Sierra Farrell. Whose shirt I'm we. I mean, Mumford was awesome. They were the highlight, but she was just as good. I was kind of familiar with her, but it was a great show. Drove down and back to Nashville. Don't recommend that.
Matt Jones
What time did you get back?
Drew Franklin
A little before five.
Matt Jones
Five in the morning. I did notice though, you went out afterwards. It's not like you just got in the car.
Drew Franklin
No, no, we got straight in the car.
Matt Jones
I saw you though, at Tootsies or something.
Drew Franklin
That was before. We did a lap around. Probably before, but no, it was construction and all the fun coming home.
Matt Jones
Let me explain again, because we. We always get new listeners, and I. I love that we get new listeners. So some people not. May not know kind of the policy of the show. I do not think on anything we talk about that our other people's opinions are not equal to, or maybe in a lot of cases, better than ours. However, this is an entertainment show, and in order to do that, we have to keep it entertaining. The moment people start. The moment we start having discussions that are not entertaining, we lose people. I know people don't necessarily want me to talk about this or that issue. They don't necessarily like my opinion about this or that. Some people want us to stick to sports. Some people want us to stick to entertainment. Some people want to. Want me to talk more about politics. I try to balance it the best I can, but once callers get off onto especially politics, the show derails because a guy will say something like he said, and then the guy on the other side wants to say the opposite thing. So that doesn't mean either of those opinions are not worthy. They're just not going to be done here. So I just want you to understand that it's nothing. I mean, it's nothing personal, but, like, once you go down that road, then we just have callers screaming about something that's not the topic. Whereas when we talk about it, I can cut it off when I feel like we're losing the audience, which doesn't happen a lot, but sometimes you do. So that's the reason why Ryan. I cut off calls like the one we just had.
Ryan Lemond
The one thing you're good at is the topics you bring up for the show. Topics of conversation, news headlines, sports headlines, whatever it may be. Hit it, then move on. I'll tell you what I really love, Matt. I love this so much, is when you get. I get tagged in some of your Twitter accounts.
Matt Jones
I like when you get tagged, y'.
Caller
All.
Ryan Lemond
I love that.
Matt Jones
As a matter of fact, whatever your opinion is on anything, I think what you ought to do is just tell Ron.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, especially if it's like the conversation we have.
Matt Jones
Yeah, exactly. So I think if you want tonight or just tag Ryan and say what you think about ice. Remember just that. Whatever you think. I think he wants to hear it, don't you?
Drew Franklin
Wasn't there a time where Ryan was before bed, he would put out, like, what do you think about this in politics?
Ryan Lemond
We did that for a couple weeks, the nightly bit.
Drew Franklin
Bring that back.
Ryan Lemond
We'll bring that back again.
Matt Jones
Okay, Bon Jovi. Shannon has announced they're gonna go back on tour.
Ryan Lemond
Yep.
Matt Jones
How old are those guys now? 60s, you think? Oh, yeah, absolutely.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, they were popular, like when I was in high school.
Matt Jones
How old. How old do we think Jon Bon Jovi is? I honestly don't know the answer. I'm gonna look it up right now.
Ryan Lemond
How do you say he's early?
Matt Jones
63. You're gonna say 64. What's your guess, Shane?
Producer or Call Screen
63 is what he is. I'm just telling you.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay. Well, you looked it up. He's 63 years old. All right, so they're going to go back on tour. Here's the question. 63 year old Bon Jovi and his band, would you want to go see him? They have a lot of bangers. I mean, a lot of. We're halfway there. Oh, oh.
Drew Franklin
I was at his bar on Broadway last night. Heard them all.
Matt Jones
That's my. That's my version. Oh, oh. Living on a prayer. Would you go?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Cost would matter, but yes, if it wasn't outrageous, it wasn't outrageous.
Matt Jones
You go, would you go?
Ryan Lemond
I absolutely would go, yes. But, you know, I saw their documentary on him where he was trying to make a comeback and he just didn't have the voice anymore. That was.
Matt Jones
It's got. He has some songs that would be hard to sing.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, right.
Matt Jones
I would think. What do you think, Shannon?
Producer or Call Screen
No, I never really was a big fan of his, so I probably wouldn't go even if he was 30.
Ryan Lemond
Cowboy.
Matt Jones
But you know, my most guilty pleasure.
Producer or Call Screen
The whole dead of roses.
Matt Jones
When we used to do the guilty Pleasure song. See, some people will say guilty pleasures are like Party in the usa. I don't consider that a guilty pleasure. That's objectively a fun song. Guilty pleasures are when you like something like Bon Jovi, Ben of Rose. Those are guilty pleasures. I don't like to admit I like Bon Jovi. Bed of Roses. It's a objectively awful song, but when it comes on and I sometimes play it so that it comes on, I'm a fan.
Ryan Lemond
The Runaway album was game changer for me. Came out like my senior year, high school, freshman year, college runaway.
Drew Franklin
So dead or alive and then. Is that on that one? No, dude.
Matt Jones
Who's up next? Shannon, while they're talking about Young Guns 2 soundtrack. Go ahead, Russ. Russ, 30 seconds. Go.
Caller
Hey, Jared.
Drew Franklin
Hey.
Caller
Thanks, Matt. I'm Russ. From McRib to Prime Rib and vagrancy in. In Mayberry. Do you think there'll be a lot of plane watching when as Our habit, you know, as we like to watch the planes come in for potential coaches.
Matt Jones
This is if Kentucky, if Kentucky has a coaching search, this will be the most open one we've ever had. I think they will be. It'll be. It could be anybody. So, yes, I think there will be a lot of plane watching and a lot of scoops that's happened. We'll be right back.
Ryan Lemond
T.J. smith, personal injury attorney, called T.J.

Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. I mean, now, this is an embarrassing show. Do you.
Producer or Call Screen
I can picture you lighting your candles listening to this every night.
Matt Jones
I like this song. I don't, I don't sit and listen to it before bed, but it's, I can't help it. There's something about it that I, I will listen to it on my drive to tape interrupted by Matt.
Producer or Call Screen
How romantic.
Matt Jones
Yes. It'll be by myself.
Drew Franklin
So that's what you're thinking of before you go in and talk to me or Andy Bashir or whoever your next guest is.
Matt Jones
Every time I interview, I interview Andy Barr. I sit in the car Shan and play this and then walk inside and interview.
Producer or Call Screen
Gotta get in the right mindset.
Matt Jones
That's exactly right. Get Millie prepared today. I'm excited today. I have on. It's gonna air tonight on WHS and then it'll be on the podcast feed. I have this guy named Noam Wiseman who I do the fellowship with and he's going to do something on the Israel, Palestine thing. That's like his thing. But I've really gotten to know him a lot and people like him. He's very funny. I've made him a Kentucky fan. He didn't really care about college basketball. Now he texts me during the Kentucky games and is like, will Pope put in Jackson Robinson? Like, I love taking this random Jewish guy in New York. And now he's going, I think we need more Trent Noah in this game.
Ryan Lemond
Hey, get plenty of room in the big blue canoe. Come on, big fella.
Matt Jones
That's exactly right. 859-280-2287. I said I was gonna do it after lunch. Joe Flacco had a great comment yesterday. I already like Joe Flacco. He's already old. He's, he's, he plays for the Bengals. And I, for purposes of the bar, root for the Bengals. I'm going to the Bengals Bears game here in a week and a half.
Ryan Lemond
Nice.
Matt Jones
He was on. He did A press conference. And they said they were like, what's changed since you're 40? And he said, you know, when I was younger, I would see an old guy over 40 eating by himself at dinner. And I would think, poor guy, he's lonely. He must be miserable. I would like to go sit and help him. And he goes, now I look at it and say, that would be awesome. He was like, now I see why it's great. And I thought, Joe, he gets 100% right. Eating by yourself, very underrated. And I'm a big fan of it.
Drew Franklin
Me too. I don't even think you have to be 40. I love going to just sit at a bar by myself and just stare at the TV or talk to the stranger next to me. I've made friends I still talk to today because I was just sitting in a hotel lobby and by myself and struck up a conversation at a bar.
Matt Jones
I'm good with sitting at the bar and reading the New Yorker. I don't even need to. To. To interact. I. There. There's something free like a meal, like not having to be pressured to have conversation and just sit there and enjoy it. See the, where. The atmosphere where you are. I love it. And Ryan, you need to start loving it because this is your life now.
Ryan Lemond
I'm exactly the opposite of you guys. I. I have to be with somebody. I have to eat with somebody. I have to hang out with somebody.
Matt Jones
Why do you think that is?
Ryan Lemond
I don't know. I don't. I don't like being by myself at all.
Matt Jones
Ever? No, like ever. Oh, do you want.
Drew Franklin
I mean, forever.
Ryan Lemond
Forever.
Matt Jones
So like, you have a night where yoga girl's out of town.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And you know you're going to be by yourself. What are you doing?
Ryan Lemond
Probably going to a high school game, football game. Or like tonight there's a freshman football game. I'm thinking about going.
Matt Jones
You're going to go to a freshman football game thinking about people that you do not know?
Ryan Lemond
I know of some. The dads, the dad's kids play.
Matt Jones
You would rather go to a freshman football game than sit by yourself?
Ryan Lemond
Sit at home by myself, watching tv with nothing to do, nobody to talk to. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
If you had like a craving for a restaurant, nobody could go. You wouldn't just go eat it and sit alone? No, I've been to like, I've been to Jeff Ruby's in the dining room at a table of one before and it did not bother me.
Matt Jones
So when's the last time you ate alone? Like out.
Ryan Lemond
90S 80s in the 90s.
Matt Jones
What about when you're out of town? Do you just take it back to your room?
Ryan Lemond
I don't think I'm ever alone out of town.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Ryan Lemond
I don't travel by myself. I've always had a kid.
Matt Jones
Shannon, when we do our trip in December.
Ryan Lemond
No, don't make me do that.
Matt Jones
We're gonna have a meal where we make him sit by himself in a restaurant. We'll go sit together somewhere. El Y. I can't do it. We will make him sit by himself in a restaurant.
Ryan Lemond
I'll be standing up.
Drew Franklin
Matt.
Ryan Lemond
Hey, I'm over here.
Producer or Call Screen
And you're not allowed to come to our table.
Drew Franklin
Very close to fun. Nice rest. You've never thought. Game's on. I'm hungry. I'm going to go to Drake's and just sit at the bar. Thoroughbred.
Ryan Lemond
Not a ch.
Matt Jones
What about, like, here? If you came to watch Kentucky play Purdue on Friday night, you wouldn't just come here by yourself.
Ryan Lemond
Well, like, when you were gone, you know, we're. I was coming here for Thursday Night Football for those three or four weeks, but knew Mario was also going to be here, so I came by myself. And then he and I sat together at the bar and watched the game. I can't do it. I couldn't come just by myself.
Drew Franklin
You just got to rip the band aid off and do it.
Matt Jones
Well, Joe Flacco is exactly right. There is. There is liberty, and there is freedom in being by yourself at a restaurant. Thank you, Joe Flacco, for. For standing up for us. Who's up next?
Producer or Call Screen
Matt.
Matt Jones
Matt. Go ahead, Matt.
Caller
If Mitch does fire Mark, who do you think his guaranteed hire will be? Like, you know, kind of like Mark Pope was last year or. I'm scared it's going to be like a Neil Brown.
Matt Jones
What do you think it won't be? Deal Brown.
Caller
If, like, the top. It's like the top tiers are out. You know, I.
Matt Jones
It won't be Neil. Neil Brown. I think there's a worry people have with Mitch that, like, he'll hire someone like him, that he'll have to go, like. He'll go look for a certain kind of personality that people like. I've had that worry in the past. The basketball coaching search took that away from me. So, I mean, just think about who his top two choices were. Scott Drew is kind of like Mitch. Kind of quiet, conservative, sort of. That kind of thing. But then Danny Hurley was the exact opposite. I mean, Danny Hurley is essentially Mitch just reverse everything. And he tried to hire him as well. So My view is if he was going to consider hiring Danny Hurley, he did hire John Caliperi. Right. At one point, then I think he ultimately will pick the guy that he thinks is best. And I. So I don't. I don't have that worry. Do you have that worry, Drew?
Drew Franklin
I think he knows he has to nail this. I mean, it's not a legacy hire, but it will probably be one of the last things he leaves the uk. UK with. And he knows he's got to get approval with the fan base and somebody that has some juice that comes in here. And.
Matt Jones
I mean, I think when he leaves, if he leaves next year, the success of Mark Pope and whoever the new football coaches will determine how people look at his tenure. I mean, I don't think Mitch gets credit, Ryan, for John Caliper. I think he should. He definitely should, but I don't think he does because people have this perception that he was forced into it. I don't think that's fair to him, but I think people think. Think that. I think he gets credit for Rich Brooks, but then he also gets the knocks for Joker and Billy Gillespie. So I think this hire, how Mark Pope does and whoever the football coach is will in some ways be Mitch's legacy.
Ryan Lemond
And that's why we were talking earlier. You know, if he sticks around and make this coaching change, he's not immediately going to leave. I think he'll. He'll stick around and try to help usher in that new era of the new coach a little bit.
Matt Jones
Now, I think he deserves a lot of credit because there are three basketball programs you could make a strong argument that have had the strongest success they've ever had in his tenure. I mean, baseball.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Women's basketball, both Matthew Mitchell and now. And, you know, volleyball. And volleyball. Yeah. And I'll even throw in football. I mean, so Mitch deserves a lot of credit. Does. But I do think he needs to nail this higher, just like he needed to nail the Mark Pope.
Drew Franklin
If you pat him on a lie detector. He probably wanted Stoops to have a good year so he wouldn't have to do this, because it is what kind of. The last thing you did is kind of how your legacy is going to be. And he probably didn't want to be put in this situation, but it's looking like it's heading straight for it.
Matt Jones
You're exactly right. Who's next?
Drew Franklin
Matt.
Matt Jones
Matt. Go ahead, Matt.
Caller
Hey, Drew. I hope you had fun watching Sierra Farrell. I've seen her live in person three times. The last time at Fox in Colorado. She's amazing.
Matt Jones
He's wearing a Sierra.
Drew Franklin
She walked right by me. We touched. It was amazing. I'm her biggest fan.
Matt Jones
That sounds weird.
Drew Franklin
It's all right. Through my aisle.
Caller
Right through my aisle. All right, two questions for you. One, Matt, would you ever do a calling show on Interrupted Calling episode?
Matt Jones
I would if we could. I. I ain't the forum to have those political conversations. Would be on that. So, yes, that's actually a good idea and I will do that sometime. Now, we don't tape it live, so I'd have to figure out how we were able to get the calls in. But yes, I would. I would do that. I think that would be good.
Ryan Lemond
All right.
Caller
The other question is, I know Reppa is going to charge money for engagements or proposals. Would you guys ever do a proposal show on ksr?
Matt Jones
Appreciate the call. We've had a proposal on this show we did at the SEC tournament and that couple's still together and they come to that show at Tin Roof every year, introduce themselves and say, we're the couple that got engaged.
Ryan Lemond
They've got a couple babies now, if I'm not mistaken.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So we. Our success. Marriage success rate is one for one.
Drew Franklin
And we charge them zero dollars.
Matt Jones
We did charge them zero dollars. The Department of Justice alleges Terry Rozier told a co defendant, De Niro Laster that he would take himself out during the first quarter of a Hornets game with an injury so Laster could bet it. $259,000 was wagered on that bet.
Drew Franklin
Wait a minute. De Niro last year is a former UK football player.
Ryan Lemond
What?
Matt Jones
Oh, De Niro Laster is a UK foot.
Drew Franklin
I was like, I know that name.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, my.
Drew Franklin
Like a while ago.
Matt Jones
Oh, wow.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, wow.
Matt Jones
Well, I didn't realize that.
Drew Franklin
As soon as you said that name, I was like, how do I know that name?
Matt Jones
How did they think? Like, if you're betting on Terry Rozier first quarter under points, $259,000. How do they think that's not going to get flagged?
Drew Franklin
They have systems in place that automatically trigger an alarm when a bet does. Is like forget the word. You know, it just doesn't line up with. It's. What's consistent betting that.
Ryan Lemond
How do they think they're gonna get away with that? Man, they thought they were going to sneak that by.
Matt Jones
Wait a minute. De Niro. Laster, like, he played, didn't he?
Drew Franklin
I'm trying to. I just. The moment you said that name, I was like, I know that name. How do I know that name and I punched in Google real quick. I can't remember the year.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-7745 Matt Ryan and Drew Tomorrow we are at Don Franklin Nissan out past Richmond Road the UK Purdue game. Our pregame show will start here at 3:30 KS Bar. I'll be doing the post game show afterwards. I'm really excited for that postgame show, Ryan, because it'll be our first chance to get to see what the team is like and discuss it. I'm sure there'll be no overreactions to whatever we see.
Ryan Lemond
Of course there will be. Well, you know, we win the game, we think we're going to hang a banner. We lose the game, it doesn't matter. This is probably the most anticipated season opener exhibition game I think I've ever been a part of.
Matt Jones
You're probably right about that. I'm not sure. Maybe, maybe the first Kentucky one when Glencow came, like just because we wanted to see it. But remember, John Wall wasn't allowed to play.
Ryan Lemond
Why John Wall didn't play.
Matt Jones
So, so that, that made it a.
Drew Franklin
Little bit different and I, we're all excited about Purdue. I'm just ready to see him again. I'm ready to see that 2 1/2 minute video from Madness played in Rupp arena with the crowd. I just want to be in the building again for basketball.
Matt Jones
Let me give a shout out to this guy, right. When I saw you two come in, I didn't think he was going to order a salad. I like that you're staying healthy, sir. I like that. There's nothing wrong with, there's nothing wrong with being healthy in, in 2025. This. To come to this restaurant with all this fried and like food and get a salad. That's a man of willpower.
Drew Franklin
I need to learn how to do that.
Matt Jones
59280, 2287. Who's up next?
Ryan Lemond
Matt.
Matt Jones
Matt, Go ahead, Matt.
Caller
Hi guys.
Matt Jones
What's going on?
Caller
I'm out here in my garden cleaning it up, getting it ready for next year and I just got a couple things to say real quick. Haven't meditated yet, but I like to ask Matt Jones, since you're traveled the world, do you know what the top four sports are? Fan based.
Matt Jones
Say that again.
Caller
Do you know what the top four fan base sports are? Watched. Fan fan base sports in the world.
Matt Jones
Most popular sport in the world is, is soccer, right? Yeah. I would say after that cricket maybe. Cricket. Because you got those countries that are so big like India that, that really like cricket, you know. I don't know. I mean do you consider like track a sport that. Because that's probably, that's probably up there. Almost everybody runs track or does long distance running and then after that, way off you. Well, soccer's number one. You're not going to convince me otherwise.
Caller
Yeah, soccer is number one.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay. What else? What are the next three?
Caller
All right, soccer, cricket, hockey and tennis. And can you believe table tennis is next?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I can, I can believe. I'm a little surprised about hockey because like they don't do hockey in South America. They don't do hockey in Africa. I mean hockey. I would, I would throw a challenge flag on hockey, but the others make sense to me.
Caller
Can I say one more thing?
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller
I was going to go negative. You know about the football team, but I'm not because you know who I am, but because I got my Vinnie out at work. Shout out to Billy, but I went to your show last Friday and I'd like to say a thank you to that sweet, wonderful woman that met me and my wife at the door. Made sure that I had a picture with the famous Matt Jones on my birthday. And she works for I heart and yourself.
Matt Jones
I will pass the message along that and thank you for coming last week.
Caller
Y' all have a blessed day.
Matt Jones
It was very. It was great to meet you, by the way. 859-28022. Always nice. Like we'd never met him. Always nice to. To meet somebody when you hear their voice for a long time.
Ryan Lemond
And he's got his own T shirt says meditating Matt when he walks around now so we know who he is.
Drew Franklin
Spotted him the second he walked in the door at 46 Solutions.
Matt Jones
Yes. I just want to throw a little heads up for you. Do you know what's happening in nine days, Ryan?
Ryan Lemond
Nine days? Halloween.
Matt Jones
That's ten days. But you're close.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Matt Jones
Or see me. That's eight days.
Ryan Lemond
Eight days.
Matt Jones
Some people are arguing that the best, most stacked horse race of all time is coming in eight days.
Ryan Lemond
Really?
Matt Jones
The Breeders Cup Classic. Okay. This year it has journalism and sovereignty. Remember they fought during the Triple Crown.
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Matt Jones
It has. Last year, you remember it was it Fierceness. That was the really good horse.
Ryan Lemond
Remember that name?
Matt Jones
Sierra Leone. You remember that name. And then the Japanese horse Forever Young. Those were the big horses. All five of them are in the Breeders Cup Classic. It's. Some people are saying the best field.
Ryan Lemond
Wow.
Matt Jones
That they've ever had for a race. And it's next Saturday.
Ryan Lemond
Where is the Breeders cup then?
Matt Jones
This at Del Mar. It's at Del Mar. But there's a little bit. There's some people upset because one of the horses. I can't remember which one, his owner Drew, put in a horse that has no chance to win. Like none. Just so it would run as fast as it can and set the pace so that he could come from the back. They put in a horse that they think may go off like 150 to 1. Just put it in there and then. And some of the other horse horse owners are calling foul, I would say.
Drew Franklin
So you can't run a two man game in horse racing.
Matt Jones
They do it all the time. Usually the horse is competitive. This one they say has no chance.
Drew Franklin
This is like Ricky Bobby and Cal not there. Shaking bacon. Is this how this is going to.
Matt Jones
Look when the Breeders cup starts, something like that. But I just wanted to get you ready because, you know, we like historic moments. They're saying could be the biggest horse race of all time.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I knew nothing about it, so I'm glad you kind of alerted this to at least I can kind of follow it a little bit now.
Matt Jones
Yes. Big Blue Nation basketball's back. You've got your pregame rituals, maybe the lucky socks, walking around a hotel lobby or whatever, but you also should get your skin checked. Kentucky Skin Cancer center is the most trusted name in the region for diagnosing and curing skin cancer. Don't skip your yearly skin check. Go to kentucky skin cancer center.com 2708421999 it's Kentucky skincancer.com before we go. Tennessee lost their baseball coach to the Giants. He took a pay cut, made history. He took a pay cut to go from Tennessee to San Francisco. First time a college manager's ever been hired in the, in the major league straight through.
Drew Franklin
I think you had to do it though to go from the major or from college straight to the majors. That's unheard of. I understand why you take a little less money.
Matt Jones
His thing is, you know, his players, remember, they would talk trash. They would run with their middle fingers up. He would yell, do you think that works in the major leagues?
Ryan Lemond
I don't. I, I mean it's, it's a heck of a risk, heck of a jump that the Giants are making on this move, but I just, I just, I just don't think it's going to work.
Drew Franklin
They were the fur coats at Tennessee.
Matt Jones
It's amazing. He's taking a pay cut because he's going from Nashville of San Francisco. Cost of living is probably twice as much there and taking a pay cut. But I like the majors. But I like believing in yourself like that. We'll see if it works. Thank you guys very much for coming out. We really do appreciate it. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.
