Broadway this is Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday, November 5th. I am Matt Jones here in just rural Connecticut ready for what is, I think a very positive day. After a few days of hand wringing around the UK fan base, you can give a shout out on the Clark's Pump and shop phone line. That is 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-5254. In this dish and sponsored by the T.J. smith Law Office, you call TGL. Make them pay. The cats get, you know, not the prettiest win in the history of basketball, but a victory last night over Nichols. It was a terrible first half, one of the worst offensive first halves I can remember Kentucky playing in a long time, although defensively they played fairly well. But then in the second half turned it up, scored nearly 50 points, win 77, 51 and get what may very well end up being the signature play of the year in the Colin Chandler second half dunk. Ryan Drew. I watched the first half live before I had to go to a get together and we was pretty bummed out by what I saw. Didn't get to see the second half until after, like late in the night. So I watched it on replay, much more pleased about the second half. So how do you rate the overall experience, Ryan? A first half that was kind of miserable, but a second half that actually was a lot of fun. How do you come out of it?
Ryan
Well, feel bad for you, having to watch that first half before you go to an outing or something. That was, that was ugly. I mean, 28 to 15, neither team could do anything. But I think the second half, when you put Denzel Aberdeen at point guard, you see how things are supposed to be. You know, the whole offense looked 100 times better when Collins playing off the ball and Denzel's playing the point guard. That's, that's when things really turned around.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's clear that the team needs a point guard. It needs a person to run the offense. And then Colin Chandler needs To not be the point guard. And then the second half we got. And he needs to get to a wing spot to be better. And it was nice, Drew, seeing that in per. In, you know, practice in the second half last night.
Drew
Yeah. We've wondered who would. Who could play point guard behind low. Wonder that all summer. And, you know, Colin Chandler was in the mix. I think last night we learned. I don't think we know. Pope even said after the game, his natural spots are two, and that's where he needs to be. In the first half, when he had the ball in his hands, that's when things were stagnant. They just weren't moving it around and getting the offense going like Pope's likes, but the moment where he slid over and he was more of a reactor than a decision maker, that's when the offense really got going and guys started making shots.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So let's start with the first half. I mean, first of all, defensively, let's say something positive. 15 points. It's like the third fewest points ever in Rupp arena in a half. In the first half, I thought they played excellent defense. I mean, what if you want to take some optimism from the game, even the first half, you could say this is a defense that is. That travels now. You know, they struggle a little bit against Georgetown, but I still think in most games, that defense is going to be good. They got length, they got. They. They. They're pretty good at sliding their feet. Defensively, they're going to lock down a lot of teams. Offensively, I'm not sure they could have looked worse than they did in the first half. They. No ball movement at all. And when they got open shots and they got a lot of them, Ryan, they didn't make any of them. I mean, they were at one point, what, at halftime, 1 for 12? Is that what they want for 14 from 3? I think.
Ryan
And Pope talked about after the game about just too much dribbling. You know, guys were just not running the audience. The ball kind of died in their hand. Just dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble.
Matt Jones
And they would just shoot and it wouldn't work. Yeah, but then you get to second half, and the. The addition of Aberdeen is the difference. And after the game, Mark Pope says Jalen Lowe is going to play in the next game. So now he's going to get his debut. And I think you're going to see a completely different offense, but you could just see how different it was. Guys got in the right spots. Look like away didn't have to press as much. And then Chandler hits four threes in the second half. As the founding member of the Colin Chandler fan club, Drew. I mean, membership was shaky. There was a, I would say by halftime you had people like asking if they could get their money back. They were. There was a lot of negativity. And then in that second half, you got some redemption.
Drew
I'll even say throughout the preseason at our meetings, I was buying too many donuts. I was taking a lot of food home. We weren't filling all the chairs I'd put out. Our fan club meetings, people were down in that at halftime. I even had a few people come up in Rupp arena and pat me on the back saying, hang in there. And I kept saying, no, you hang in there. We're fine. We're right where we need to be. And then that second half, when he got in his natural position, which has been my point all along, he's being asked to do things he's not going to be doing later in the season. So let's not grade him as hard. When he got over to the two where he needs to be, he did not miss a shot, went 3 for 3 from the three point line and then had the number one play on SportsCenter. So the Colin Chandler fan club's doing just fine. I will add. We're currently a little overwhelmed with new applications, so please be patient moving forward. Could be three to five business days before I get you processed, but we're in business.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan
Well done.
Matt Jones
Well, I am going to, I, I'm going to say that I am, I'm pretty optimistic about the team, especially after the second half. I needed to see though that half. Ryan, with, with the, with Aberdeen running the offense, I needed to see that. You know, I didn't get to see it till late, but I needed to see it because I was really concerned with, you know, you go back. Purdue said they didn't really scout. I don't know how much that's true or not. But then all of a sudden, since that game, our offense had just been a disaster, really, throughout three halves. And now it may just be as simple as having a person who knows how to run the point. You know, there's other things I think will get better. I do not think Trent Noah is going to shoot this poorly the whole game. I don't know about Cam Williams. I, you know, people have gotten on me for being concerned. I'm still concerned about him and I think he's going to end up being the person Left out if. When this whole roster is full, if he's not careful. But I feel better about other guys. You know, I thought Diabate looks good all night away. Better in the second half. You just got to have that point guard. And we saw the same thing last year. I don't know why we're surprised, because last year when we lost our point guards, Ryan, the exact same thing kind of happened.
Ryan
That's the value of a strong point guard, man. The ball movement is so much better. The execution is so much better. Then you get a little confidence. Then those shots start going down. Then things start feeling good again. I. I mean, that, that first half, Matt, they couldn't even catch the ball. Was it always one time. Couldn't even. Couldn't even catch it. Went right out of bounds. I mean, it was. They were just so out of sync the first half. It all came together. When Denzel entered the game in the second half.
Matt Jones
Well, I. I was. Now talk to me about the dunk. You're there, Drew. The dunk was the number one play on Sports Center. The pictures that came from it of him snarling. I didn't know Shannon Mormons were allowed to snarl like that.
Shannon
And I didn't know that Colin could jump like that.
Matt Jones
Well, I did. I'd seen him jump like that. Now the cocking it back is a whole nother guy. Are Mormons allowed to snarl like that?
Ryan
I thought that.
Matt Jones
That. I always thought of that as not a Mormon thing. I thought they were through much, much kinder. That was a. That was a mean snarl. That was like. That was a Church of God snow snarl right there. That was a whole nother thing.
Drew
Yeah, and he said something to him too. And I've even spent the morning trying to zoom in and lead his. Read his lips. I couldn't get it. But I need. I need to know what Elder Chandler said after he punched on that guy.
Shannon
Said.
Drew
I'll have to know.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
He didn't. Did he?
Ryan
Thoughts and prayers to you.
Matt Jones
Let me say something. I'll pray for you. Would be.
Shannon
I'll pray for you.
Matt Jones
That would be a great thing to say.
Ryan
It is a good thing to say.
Matt Jones
The reactions. I need to rank the reactions of people on the. On the court and on the sideline. First of all, Brandon Garrison, his mouth is awesome. The little. Just the face he makes in the moment. You've got Cam Williams falls to the ground. Have you seen that in the background? He just falls to the ground like he falls to the ground like he shot. Then Jalen Lowe falls Into the guy to the walk ons and even Mark Pope. You can't really see Mark Pope's reaction on camera, but Mark Pope says he wishes he had a picture of his face when he did it. Is this go down Drew as one of the great dunks in Kentucky history? I mean, we do this sometimes. We have the ones over the years. Dirk Minnafield, James Young in the NCAA tournament, Glenn Azabuki, Willie Collie Stein against Florida. You know, there's a handful. Is this one on the list now?
Drew
It's definitely in the conversation. I don't. I don't like doing this ranking with Minnafield involved because that is its own. That will never be top.
Ryan
Never.
Drew
That's its own category.
Matt Jones
Do you think though, that's a camera angle thing or do you think it really defied the laws of physics?
Drew
He really seems to just jump again right when he gets to old guy's chin on his way up. But all the other dunks, all of them in Rupp arena, at least there I think there's been some better outside of RUP Arena. Anyone? That's happened in Rupp Arena. Colin Chandler is squarely in the mix and could even be two behind Minnafield.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'm trying to think of the Rupp arena ones. Okay, so because you're right, Willie's was out of the arena, James was out of the arena.
Drew
Willie had three. I think they're all on the road. His tournament win there was Florida. He didn't get as many in.
Matt Jones
Rupert has a great one against the guy at Georgia.
Drew
Michael Kid Gilchrist killed a guy from Portland.
Matt Jones
Yes, killed him. You're exactly right. That one, that one's Darius Miller has one like that too.
Ryan
Ole Miss.
Matt Jones
Yes. Michael Kidd, Gilchrist and Darius Miller have. And then I want to say Ryan. Doesn't Kalina have one like that somewhere in Rub.
Ryan
Oh, it was unbelievable. He was just a freshman and he jumped up where his head was like even with the rim when he got it.
Matt Jones
That was against Vandy. Was.
Ryan
It was against Vandy. Yep. Good memory. It was. I was there.
Drew
OA had a nasty one last year against A and M. Chandler's is better, but we were having this same conversation last season with Oway.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, Chandler's is. Is pretty amazing. And I think. I think part of it is the way he had struggled. I think that makes it a little bit more exciting. But just as important Ryan to me than the dunk is the four threes, especially the three in the second half in rhythm. Like the thing that Was driving me crazy about the Georgetown game. And the first half of this game is they have got to make those open threes. Mark Pope's offense is going to give them open threes. It did last year. But now with the way these guys can penetrate and kick, they're going to have a ton of open threes. And they cannot. I sound like Cal. They can't miss them all. They just cannot miss them all. There was one point where Williams, Noah, and Chandler were combined 1 for 7 after going 2 for 15 in the last game. You just cannot miss them all. Or. I mean, we still went 7 for 29 as a team. We just have to do better than that.
Ryan
Yeah. I think if I remember right, Chandler opened the game by missing his first couple threes, and they were wide open. Like, he had wide open looks and couldn't knock him down to start the game. I don't know. He just. I think he was. As a point guard, he was just pressing himself, just trying to do too much. He was getting beat on defense. There was nothing he could do Right. That first half, but then just seemed to settle down when they moved him off the ball in the second half.
Matt Jones
Shannon, I don't know if other people got to watch the game. Did I hear you did get the YouTube thing shut down?
Shannon
No, that is not true there. First of all, there were, like, two or three different links. So if you. If one did go down for a few minutes, you just jump over to the other one. But the numbers normally are like, around 2 or 3,000. I look, last night it was up to 25,000 people streaming it.
Matt Jones
All right, so you did that and you're saying they never took it down? Because I had messages that it got taken down.
Shannon
It depends on which one you were watching. I mean, there was, like I said, there were two or three different ones. So if one got shut down and you just go, well, that's it. I guess I don't get to watch the second half. That's on you for not looking around for another link. Don't blame me for it.
Ryan
There was one guy who was doing his own, like, little commentary while during the streaming.
Shannon
Yeah.
Ryan
And it started buffering, and I guess people started messaging. It's ksr. And he's like, what's ksr? Who is this KSR guy who.
Matt Jones
Who was doing the commentating?
Ryan
I guess people.
Shannon
The guy, like, streams it.
Ryan
This the guy who does the stream.
Matt Jones
Was he calling the game?
Ryan
He'd say, oh, great move.
Shannon
Yeah, yeah. He wasn't calling. He would just, like, chime in with like, comments. It's like you're watching a game with your buddy, you know.
Matt Jones
Now did I hear somebody was trying to raise money while they were doing it?
Ryan
That was him. He was taking all these cash apps. And were people giving money? I did. I sent him a little money.
Matt Jones
I mean, you gave me money.
Drew
You wouldn't give me ESPN money.
Matt Jones
Wait just a second. Hang on. I was about to make fun of people giving him money. You gave him money?
Ryan
Yeah, because when you donated money, he'd say, you know, hey, thanks, Matt. Thanks for the donation. Hey, wait a minute.
Matt Jones
You are on the radio.
Ryan
I wanted to hear him say my name.
Matt Jones
Hang on, Shannon. I gotta take a break. I gotta explore this. I gotta explore this with Ryan. That. That ryan giving a YouTube streamer money for showing a game that he could have bought is maybe the most Ryan thing I've ever.
Shannon
But he wouldn't have got the shout out from the YouTube guy.
Matt Jones
Yeah, no, no, no. Hang on. I gotta explore this with you when we get back. This is more interesting to me than the dunk is you giving. Don't you. You don't even know this guy. He could. He could be a scammer.
Ryan
No, but he was doing us all a favor by streaming the game.
Matt Jones
And he's gonna do with your information.
Drew
Hey, man, I like how most people get a VPN to hide their location when they watch these things. And Ryan's like, I need a paper trail. I want people to know that I.
Matt Jones
Was pirating, admitting to paying for pirated material.
Ryan
I did. Yeah, and so did a bunch of other people.
Matt Jones
We'll be right back. 10 years max. It's unbelievable.

Matt Jones
That's true. It'll kill the little man, but. Right, but Shannon apparently didn't kill the little man.
Shannon
No, we helped him out and Ryan kept funding it.
Matt Jones
You pumped his gas and you changed his flat. All right, so let's go back to this. The streamer helped me understand what's happening because I actually turned on a minute of it when I was in the car. The streamer is streaming the game.
Ryan
Yep.
Matt Jones
And he's just talking. Right. So he's like, oh, good shot.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
What's it. What's his name?
Ryan
Sports Live Reactions.
Matt Jones
That's not a person's name, Drew. Sports Live React.
Ryan
That. That's who the streamer was. Sports Live Reactions.
Matt Jones
Do you know where he's. Where he's located?
Ryan
No idea.
Matt Jones
All right. What made you give him money?
Ryan
Well, you know, somebody cuts your hair, you give him a tip. Somebody does. Brings your food, you give him a tip. I was getting him a little tip. He was providing a game for me. I thought that was.
Matt Jones
What method did you use to pay him?
Ryan
Cash app. He was posting his cash app. Yeah, posting his cash app. He's Venmo and whatever.
Matt Jones
How much did you give him?
Ryan
$10.
Drew
This is my favorite thing that's ever happened in Rom in history.
Shannon
Couldn't you get the stream?
Drew
You could just 7 and didn't you pay Sling on Saturday?
Matt Jones
Yeah, but why didn't you just get.
Drew
ESPN so you can just watch every game like normal?
Ryan
I wanted to help out. He's a hard working man. I wanted to help him out.
Matt Jones
No, he's not hard working. He didn't do anything.
Shannon
He's in there watching the game like you are.
Ryan
I felt like I was watching with my buddy. He's like, oh, man, great move by.
Matt Jones
He's not your buddy. He does. He does. He doesn't know now.
Shannon
You paid his.
Drew
Now, so are you gonna pay every game just a different form of entertainment?
Ryan
Maybe while this is a little thing is going on.
Matt Jones
You gave him $10. If you remember, we told you you could get it for $7.
Ryan
Yeah, I got it for seven before.
Drew
So you're in for 17 for two games.
Ryan
For two games, you can get the.
Drew
Whole month in the whole espn.
Ryan
I just. I just want to give you a little tip. Obviously, a ton of other UK fans were doing the same thing because he was constantly saying like a n, thanks, Matthew, for the.
Matt Jones
$10. You gave him $10?
Ryan
Yep.
Matt Jones
And then what happened? He said your name.
Ryan
Yeah, he says, you know, hey, thanks, Ryan. Thanks. Thanks for the. Thanks for the donation.
Matt Jones
And that's all he says. Thanks, Ryan.
Ryan
Yeah. Every time. One would.
Matt Jones
Why did that matter to you so much? I mean, you have been on broadcasting. You have been on television or radio now for over 30 years. I would assume you're used to your name and your. Your image being said. Why did this random kid saying your name matter to you?
Ryan
To hear Sports Live Reaction say, it just was one of the highlights of my career.
Matt Jones
Sports Live Reactions. Who is Sports Live Reaction?
Caller Mike
I don't know.
Shannon
Ryan's new best friend.
Drew
He is at any moment. Did you think about how he is in the process of committing a federal crime and you're paying him and putting your name on it?
Ryan
Well, that's why I was kind of complimenting him that. Way to go.
Matt Jones
Well, you were complimenting for the federal.
Shannon
Still, that broadcast you should Google.
Drew
I think it's the Protecting Lawful Streaming Act.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, did you consider that, like, you now have a cash record, electronic record of you giving an illegal streamer money and encouraging him on his behavior?
Ryan
Nope. I'll tell you what. When his stream went out and I went to the other stream, if he was taking cash after, I may have cashed up him too.
Matt Jones
Wait, wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait a minute. You cash app two people.
Ryan
No, the other second guy was not soliciting tips, but if he was, I.
Matt Jones
May have tipped him anyway.
Ryan
No, he didn't have a way to give it to that guy. It was like DK Raider.
Matt Jones
You spent more money than if you had just. If you had just bought the app.
Ryan
That's good to tip your people that are providing you a service.
Drew
But now you don't have anything. You could have ESPN all day today if you wanted it. There's more games.
Shannon
Here's the other thing.
Matt Jones
You have nothing.
Shannon
Not only is there money trail, but now you're on the radio admitting to doing it and listing their account.
Ryan
I kind of just threw them under the bus, didn't I?
Drew
It's only about five to 10 sports.
Matt Jones
I think Sports Reaction guys now, like, well, we know where he is.
Shannon
Yep. Brian's not gonna make it to the second hour. The police are on the way.
Matt Jones
You are unbelievable. I mean, you really are like. Like, your brain is just fascinating to me because it continues to be your brain. Like, it never stops being, you know.
Ryan
Just being nice to the guy. He's providing the game for a lot of UK fans. Yeah, I help him out a little.
Matt Jones
Bit, but I want to. I want to note he's not doing anything. He's literally just Hooking it up to his cable. Like, he's just. He has like. Oh, Shannon, I don't know the technology, but he has like a cord. Right. He just. All he's doing is just taking it and just putting what's on the television on his computer.
Shannon
Ryan is assisting and encouraging this behavior. No, he's.
Ryan
You forget he had audio connected to it. He had a little lower third going running on with his Cash app. He had a lot of.
Matt Jones
Oh, so he's also asking for money. That was really. It was a good.
Drew
Do you know what he's going to do with this money? Do you know much about him? Is he a good character? Maybe.
Matt Jones
How much do we think he made? Like you said, a lot of $10.
Drew
If he made 10 more than $10, I. I will be shocked.
Ryan
I'd say he read at least 50 to 60 names of people that send him money.
Matt Jones
Okay, so let's just imagine if 50 people send him $10. I mean, that's $500.
Ryan
Yeah. For just streaming a game.
Matt Jones
For streaming a game. Now, I would venture to say, Shannon, most people didn't send him $10.
Shannon
Oh, yeah, I didn't send anything. I was just watching him commit the crime. I didn't encourage it. I didn't. I didn't donate to the crime.
Ryan
But he's the guy that threw KSR said, hey, what's wrong? Who is this KSR guy? What's wrong with ksr? Why are they doing this to my stream?
Matt Jones
So they're not even like, he's not even a Kentucky guy. He was a Kentucky guy. There's a good chance he would know. What ksr?
Shannon
No, he just knows. We have a big fan base that will watch and donate.
Ryan
Did you hear my name? Shannon, you were watching that stream. Did you hear him say my name?
Shannon
I didn't hear it.
Matt Jones
Ryan, you were a child.
Shannon
We can give you a shout out.
Matt Jones
Did you hear my name? Say my name.
Ryan
Say my name.
Matt Jones
Unbelievable.
Drew
Top three, Ryan Lemon Day.
Matt Jones
It really is. One person writes, matt, that guy's an Arkansas fan. He only streams Kentucky and Arkansas games. And during the Arkansas games, he says, go hog. So not only did Ryan give him money, he gave an Arkansas fan money.
Shannon
He's praying on you, Brian.
Ryan
I didn't know that's part of the story. I may not have. I mean, getting only $5 that of $10, but if I watch it again Friday night, I'm liable to send him more money.
Drew
Friday night, you're going to go broke. The pain. Game by game.
Matt Jones
Go to the bar. Why don't you go to the bar Friday night?
Ryan
Maybe I will. Yes, it is. And they have the game on.
Matt Jones
And they have the game and you could. But I'll tell my server get beer. Yeah. Who do you know who works for us and who could use that? Like, why give it to this random guy?
Drew
They're doing actual work, not just stealing the Internet at home.
Ryan
He was working hard. He was commentating on the game.
Matt Jones
Sure, he was working hard. 859-280-22871, person writes. Matt, have you all been at all disappointed at Otega away this year? Well, I have not. But I also don't believe Otega away is, you know, first team all American score. I think Otega away is. Is Otago. I mean if you look at his final stats last night he had like 13 points and six rebounds or whatever. That's Otega owe it. Like that's what he is. That's why it's been so important to me that Jalen Low be good because I don't think Otega always going to become a 20 point a game scorer. I just don't. So what he was last night is what he is. So if you want to be good, we got to get 15. I've said I think Jalen Lowe has to be our leading scorer if we're going to be really good. Now he hasn't played yet, but I don't know that he's been all that disappointing because this is exactly what I think he is and that's hugely important. But I think you got to have another star and that's low. We'll take a break. Take your calls. 859-280-2287. KSR TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make him pay.
Shannon
Now more of Kentucky sports radio presented by Stockton Mortgage, here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back techy sports radio. I mean, we had a big game. Shannon, Most people are wanting to talk about Ryan.
Drew
I'm most people.
Shannon
Yeah.
Ryan
I got people texting me that they heard my name though.
Matt Jones
Well, that's hilarious to me too. That's actually more funny to me than anything is that you wanted your name said by this random kid. Fake David Beckham says you're missing the point with Ryan. He basically paid the guy $10 because he felt like a buddy watching the game with me. Does he hate being alone this much? Did they. Did you feel like you were with a friend?
Ryan
Well, I was with yoga girl. We were watching the game but I felt like, you know, you know, just a buddy Watch the game. You know, hey, great move. Good otega. Good job.
Matt Jones
You can give me $10. I'll call you and say, hey, Ryan.
Ryan
Let'S put the phone down by my.
Matt Jones
Ear, even mention you. I could even mention you on the post game show.
Ryan
That'd be good.
Shannon
He didn't even say your last name either. I mean, there could be any Ryan.
Matt Jones
That's true.
Drew
You gotta pay more for that.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
One person writes, matt, I don't know why you don't do this. If you just said people's name during the postgame show, you could get a ton of people to tip. That's probably true.
Ryan
That's very true.
Matt Jones
Yeah. But I just feel bad. I mean, like, I've thought about over the years when I was. When I was still trying to decide whether I was going to renew with Iheart, I kind of was wondering about maybe doing it on my own and doing that kind of thing and. But, you know, I mean, we do well, and I think that's a little bit of just taking people's money. I mean, clearly this guy didn't mind Shannon.
Shannon
With Ryan, I would take Ryan's money. I'll say your name, but they're boys.
Drew
They're watching the game together. Yeah, that's different.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Well. 859-280-2287. Who's up first?
Shannon
Todd.
Matt Jones
Todd. Go ahead, Todd.
Caller Todd
Good morning, gentlemen. I. I got home last night and went straight to YouTube to see if the game was on. And. And I clicked on the live app or the live section and the first three things were the UK basketball game popped up.
Matt Jones
And.
Caller Todd
And both of them, both streams are right there together. So one was like pr. Islam was the streaming and the other one was the one Ryan sent money to.
Matt Jones
Islam. There was an Islam stream.
Ryan
Yep.
Caller Todd
Yes.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think it had, like, it.
Caller Todd
Had like 21,000 views.
Matt Jones
There were 21,000 people watching the Islam stream.
Caller Todd
Yes.
Matt Jones
What do they do on the Islam street?
Caller Todd
I have no clue. I didn't click on anything. I just watched it. So.
Shannon
Arabic writing.
Matt Jones
Wow, that's amazing. This whole new world. Shannon is introduced to this illegal black.
Shannon
Market of UK games.
Matt Jones
Yeah. They have complete. Shannon has completely introduced big Blue nation to the dark web of UK basketball. But go ahead.
Ryan
Yes.
Caller Todd
He's making millionaires on the black web. But I want to say Colin Chandler's dunk reminded me of Kenny Skywalker a little bit.
Matt Jones
So, yeah, I mean, he. The way he cocked it back and I appreciate the call. I mean, that's. You have to be drew really athletic to Pull off a dunk like that. Just to be in the air long enough and to hang your body like that. Like, I mean, you know, we've talked about that. He's really athletic. He's. I mean, that was obvious even last year. But if you. If there was anybody still wondering. They don't wonder now, I wouldn't think.
Ryan
No.
Drew
And we knew he had that athleticism, but just to do it in a game in like a half court set, the guy jumped with him. He jumped kind of far out off two feet. And you were talking about the reactions. I love away covers his eyes before Chandler, even Cox him. It's like owe saw it before anyone else there saw it. And I think just being in the game made it so much better.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, you could. You could just tell they knew what was coming and they were. They were very excited and they should have been. That was. That was. That was one for the ages. Who's.
Drew
I have one more thing for the Ryan discussion because I don't want to leave. It comes from Jacob on Twitter. He made a good point. Ryan noted that as soon as you tipped him, the stream went out and you went to another stream. So, like you paid him and then it was gone.
Ryan
Yeah, yeah. He was having some troubles and even tried to on the stream, was trying to show us how he's trying to rectify it and it was working.
Matt Jones
Well, good. I'm glad you were part of that.
Drew
I'm glad I didn't know how direct from payment to you getting kicked off. If it was just.
Ryan
It was way the second half, late in the second half when he had problems.
Matt Jones
I think what happened is he got the payment. He was like, well, now I got. This guy's banking.
Shannon
Yeah, I'm out.
Matt Jones
Why? I'm out. Let's go.
Shannon
Let's go spend some money.
Matt Jones
You're saying there were multiple streams? One of them had 20,000 people.
Ryan
Oh, they all had 20,000?
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean, that's like s. You're telling me there were 60,000 people watching and.
Shannon
Like I said, normally it's like two, maybe 3,000. So we give him, you know, quite a bump on his viewership.
Matt Jones
That's unbelievable. Yeah, Well, I mean, you know, ESPN and YouTube TV may have created this entire secondary. They're going to end up getting all these people kicked out. Well, what they get too big.
Shannon
What that tells me is you got at least 60,000 people who are YouTube TV subscribers who are no longer subscribers if they're going to YouTube.
Matt Jones
Well, or at least I'm like For me, I'm a YouTube TV subscriber. I haven't gotten rid of it yet.
Shannon
Well, that's true. There could be people that still have it.
Matt Jones
But I mean, but I will say, if it goes all that much longer, I'm just gonna be like, well, what's the point, right? I kind of, in my view, this is gonna, like, I want cable back. Like, cable worked. The thing is, we got rid of cable to end up with all these streaming companies. And now I think what everybody wants is a streaming company that puts all these back together. Shannon, essentially, we want cable again.
Shannon
We want it the way it was to begin with. We want it the way it was before. Full circle with this whole thing.
Matt Jones
We've come full circle. That's exactly right. Cable and direct. Like, I literally just. Just got rid of DirecTV, like, two months ago. And now I kind of wish I had it, because it did. They didn't do this.
Shannon
You didn't have to find, you know, search to find the channels. It was all right there.
Matt Jones
But part of it is ESPN now knows they have all the cards because since they have their own direct to consumer app, I think they think, like, we don't need these cable companies anymore. Now, I don't know if that's true, but I think it's what they think. And so that's why I think this one hasn't resolved. Like, most of these end up doing. What's next?
Shannon
Let's go to Mike.
Matt Jones
Mike, Go ahead, Mike.
Caller
Hey, Matt, can you hear me?
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller Mike
So, as a former TLS and Sarah graduate, I just wanted to congratulate you on Middlesbrough's big win this past weekend.
Matt Jones
Thank you very much. We're still celebrating.
Caller Mike
So what I, what I just did right there, Matt, that's called humility and grace. And that seems to be something that you are completely devout of. Whenever you talk about TLS and say on the show, I can no longer stand.
Matt Jones
Hang on, just. You went to both TLS and sare?
Caller Mike
Yes.
Matt Jones
Okay. So, like, so you listen, I. I have multiple friends that went to Sayre and I have some good friends that have their kids at TLS now. So it's not like animosity, but there is a little sense of those of us who grew up in a rural area, you would understand us just sort of seeing you all as the 1%. And we get more. I don't know what we would say. We get more sort of excitement in beating you.
Caller Mike
Yeah, sure, whatever. Also, I want to congratulate you on Zoran Mandami winning the election. I know that's pretty big for you.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I'm not a huge Zora guy, but of the candidates, I was fine with him. Although I did like the guy with the hat. I thought he was good, but I mean, he's not my form of politics necessarily. But I think there's a lot of lessons in him winning. He focused on, like, people's. The cost of living and all that stuff. A lot of things Trump did. So I think there's a lot of lessons for people as to why he won. But he's not like, I'm not a socialist, so I mean, that's not. He's not exactly like me.
Caller Mike
Yeah, I understand. I don't want to get too political. Thanks for having me on that. Go cold.
Matt Jones
Appreciate it.
Caller
And go ponies.
Ryan
Whiskey thief. Call today. Right there, I think.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'll take it. Yeah, that was. See, now that's a good call because he's kind of. Ryan. He's kind of giving me a hard time, but he's doing it in a good natured way. So I like that.
Ryan
Giving you the business about your jackets.
Matt Jones
Yeah. But you can say, I mean, Shannon, if it's jackets versus. If it's Middlesbrough versus Sayer.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Who's rooting for Sayer? That didn't go to Sayer. Who's the rich private school?
Shannon
Nobody.
Matt Jones
Like when they make movies like Hoosier. Well, not Hoosiers necessarily, but when they make movies with like, they don't. People don't cheer for the rich private school. They're the villains. You cheer for the public school, maybe the one in the inner city or the one in the mountains. Like, that's what you do, Ryan. That's who you cheer for. You don't cheer for the one where all the kids, you know, parents, are like investment bankers.
Ryan
Yeah. It's Middlesboro East Tennessee. That's who you're playing against.
Matt Jones
See, there you go with the cheating again. Why do you do that?
Drew
Also in all time wins Sayers probably at the bottom of the entire state. So they're an underdog. They're. They're the little guy.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but they're new. That's like arguing Lexington Christians, the underdog. These schools that have. Are recent, like, whatever. They put a lot of money into it and good for them. I'm not whining. I'm just saying when a group of. Of of mountain kids who've been out there, you know, working in, in the mines and then they come play football. Shannon.
Shannon
Right.
Matt Jones
You should root for them.
Shannon
Yeah, they're the underdog. It's the underdog story you pull for those guys.
Matt Jones
That's exactly right. I think they sent me the wrong ad. Shane. I think they sent me yesterday's but draftkings Zumbo so I can do that.
Shannon
Let's do it.
Matt Jones
But you, you need to send me the other ones back. The NBA is back. We won two of three on the KSR parlay Drew Longs. But the other two won. And a new season means new ways into the action at DraftKings Sportsbook, official sports betting partner of the NBA. Drew and I will be doing college basketball parlays all year long and you can do them also for the NBA. Bet $5 to get $200 in bonus bets. It's DraftKings. The code is KSR. Customers get 200 in bonus bets with DraftKings and DraftKings.com for additional terms responsible gaming resources see DKNG Co/B ball. We did get three of four in the first night. And you know, Drew, college basketball is hard, especially this spread because because of free throws at the end. It's hard to know opening night.
Drew
I shouldn't have, I shouldn't have bet the other BBN United Tip Off Classic game.
Matt Jones
That was your problem. You BB and I did Duke and I did Georgia Southern and you went with the BBN United Tip Off Classic. Those games are always well, Kentucky didn't.
Drew
Cover it Presented by Kentucky Tourism Neither favorite covered in the BBN United Tip Off Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism.
Matt Jones
That's right. We'll take a break and be right back. Kentucky Sports Radio.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio 855-92-802287. Text machine. A lot of people writing in about our guy Ryan. One person writes, why does Rye get more excited about a random streamer mentioning his name than when Tom Hart mentions his name? That's a good question. I mean, Tom Hart. That's on the actual broadcast, but I don't think it would have made you this excited.
Ryan
I do get excited when Tom mentions the KSR dropped. I can't deny that he was texting me during the. I've always. I got to look it up.
Drew
You owe him $10 then.
Ryan
I think I owe him $10.
Drew
You know, Matt and all of us say your name on this show every day. It's got a few people listening.
Shannon
I think he forgets he's on the radio sometimes.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, there's more people listening to this than on the stream. Right?
Ryan
Tom sent me a text. He liked my goat joke the other day. That's what it was.
Matt Jones
Oh, you're. What? You're. You're by. Or whatever.
Shannon
He was the only one Bad.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Still not the only one.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Second time didn't make it any better. Yeah, I know. This was your guy for a long time. Drew. Lil Wayne tweeted about Colin Chandler's dunk. That had to make you happy because I remember you. I don't know if you still are, but you used to be a Little Wayne guy.
Drew
There was a point in my life where it was a bit of an obsession. In fact, he might have a restraining order against me. Then he got a little weird, and.
Matt Jones
I really liked him.
Drew
Oh, big, big fan of Tucci.
Matt Jones
I remember at this. At the same time, you and my ex were both huge Lil Wayne fans, and I didn't understand it, but now, like, he's. He's. He's. We thought he was all in on the cats because of cow, but maybe he's also in just period. Were tweeting about Colin Chandler.
Drew
Other than Ryan telling me he paid for this guy on YouTube. The Lil Wayne tweets been my favorite part of everything coming out of last night. It goes back to my childhood. I was listening to Lil Wayne when I probably shouldn't have been listening to Lil Wayne burning all the CDs. Huge fan. And then when Cal kind of brought him in, I loved it. And I worried that he might, you know, leave, like a lot of celebrities probably did when Cal left. But I love that he's still all in on the Pope operation and Colin Chandler specifically. And I look forward to seeing Lil Wayne at our next meeting with the Fan club.
Ryan
Can I ask you guys a question? What does it mean when he says, oh, my lamb?
Drew
It's like a thing.
Ryan
Like, I've never heard that before. Colin Chandler. Oh, my lamb.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, I have no idea, but, you know, most people would say, oh, my. And then they might say, like, God. And lamb is often used, okay.
Drew
Instead of saying, oh, my gosh or oh, my goodness. Oh, my lanta. Oh, my lamb. You never heard that?
Ryan
I've never heard that. Oh, my lamb.
Matt Jones
Oh, my lanta. Oh, my lantern. Oh, my lanta. I haven't heard that either.
Drew
That's when they found the body.
Shannon
Remember, we saved that as a drop. I never got.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's right. Yeah. In London. Nice. All right, so on a serious note, before we get back to the phones, what happened in Louisville yesterday? Just, you know, an absolute tragedy. I was mesmerized for a couple hours, kind of following the story online, I think. According to Governor Bashir, I think there are nine people dead now, and there's still maybe 16 that they're not sure about. The. The plane crash is horrible, just awful. I mean, the three people on the. The. On the crew, that's terrible. It was going from Louisville to Hawaii, so it had probably about as much fuel as you could have. And then, you know, I. I haven't heard to see did it. I know it crashed into those buildings. Did it hit any Shannon residential areas? Do we know?
Shannon
Not yet. Not that I've seen. I think mostly just commercial businesses, you.
Matt Jones
Know, but the videos are astounding. I mean, they really are. The video. Did you see the video? The guy. The truck. He's sitting in the truck. I mean, that one. Because I just. I just think about, what if you were that guy and you're just sitting in your truck and all of a sudden you see that behind you. That is unfathomable to me. And, you know, the fireball. Louisville's out of school. It affected the entire city. You know, what do you say in these things, except prayers to everybody involved? I know there are families who still don't necessarily know where their loved ones are. I can't imagine how that is. And we're thinking about you. And also, you know, to the first responders, that was a chaotic scene. You know, lots of buildings on fire, fuel in the air. I'm sure there is still some danger from that. I don't know the science to know, but it can't be good. It's just awful. And I've said this before, but our state has had to deal with more of these things than I think are our fair share, whether it's weather or now this. And, you know, it's just. It's just horrific. So I know the community will rally around them. That's what we do. I know the city of Louisville will. I know, you know, even the. I mean, UPS has been a big part of. Of the. Of the state. I know that everybody will do the best they can on it, but my prayers are with everyone. The scenes yesterday were, you know, Ryan, they were out of like a movie. Like you couldn't believe you were seeing it in places that you knew. And I'm actually surprised the loss isn't greater than it is because when I saw the videos, I thought, this is going to be unbelievable. And thankfully, even though there's a. There is loss, it maybe isn't what I thought it would have been when I first saw it.
Ryan
You're right. You like that. You talk about that guy in the truck. I mean, that's going to haunt him for the rest of his life. It is these haunting images you have when it happened right in your own backyard. Just. Just awful. Now, there is a news conference coming up, I think at 11, that they're going to carry on whas if during.
Matt Jones
The day for whatever. Whatever comes from it. But, you know, on a personal level, you know, I obviously am friends with Craig, the mayor, and you know, he's had a ton of stuff happen in his time as well. And it's just. It's just that, I mean, did they say, was it. Was it on fire as it was taking off? Is that what. What?
Ryan
Yeah, there's video of a fire going down the road.
Matt Jones
It was as it was taking off, not landing. Right. Because it had all that fuel.
Shannon
And they got to that speed to where you have to make a split second decision. Do you want to try to take that up into the air and circle around or do you want to just stay on the ground? And that's got to be a tough decision to make in that moment.
Matt Jones
And they hit that building.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And, you know, so I haven't seen, like, somebody said one of the buildings they hit also had fuel in it. Like it was a fuel storage bill.
Ryan
It was. It was a used motor oil plant.
Matt Jones
Oh, I mean, come on. Like what? Like, you couldn't ask for worse luck in that, so. Well, it is. It is tragic what happens, and it's tragic when these things occur, but it is also an example of the best of our city. And I pray for everybody involved that I think the fact that it was daylight. The fact that it was in a place we've all been. If you're in Louisville, the fact that the smoke kind of rained over the entire city, I think has made this. You hear of a plane crash and you have one thought. But it's another thing when you see it, when you see it live on video, when you see the ramifications of it, I just think it hits harder. And I think this one is like that. So God bless all the folks involved. We will take a break and come back hour number two. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Sarah
Hey, this is Sarah. Look, I'm standing out front of a.m. p.m. Right now and, well, you're sweet and all, but I found something more fulfilling, even kind of cheesy. But I like it. Sure, you met some of my dietary needs, but they've just got it all. So farewell.

Podcast Theme: Analysis and reaction to the Kentucky Wildcats’ basketball win over Nichols, with energetic sidebar discussions on fan viewing experiences and a notable game-day viral moment.
The KSR crew recaps Kentucky men's basketball's 77-51 win over Nichols, analyzing the team's problematic first half and strong second-half turnaround. The team discusses the emergence of Colin Chandler (notably his viral dunk), the improvement after switching point guards, and shares lighthearted banter about streaming the game online. The episode closes with reflection on a tragic plane crash in Louisville, underscoring community resilience.
First Half Struggles (00:36 – 05:13)
Second Half Turnaround (02:13, 05:13)
“You see how things are supposed to be. The whole offense looked 100 times better…” (Ryan, 02:13)
“When he got over to the two where he needs to be, he did not miss a shot, went 3 for 3 from the three point line and then had the number one play on SportsCenter.” (Drew, 05:13)
Signature Play: Chandler’s Dunk (07:39 – 12:04)
“The pictures that came from it of him snarling, I didn’t know Shannon Mormons were allowed to snarl.” (Matt, 07:39) “It’s definitely in the conversation… anyone that’s happened in Rupp Arena, Colin Chandler is squarely in the mix and could even be two behind Minnefield.” (Drew, 09:44)
Chandler’s Role Clarity (05:13, 12:04)
“He’s being asked to do things he’s not going to be doing later in the season. So let’s not grade him as hard.” (Drew, 05:13)
“They have got to make those open threes. Mark Pope’s offense is going to give them open threes… they cannot miss them all.” (Matt, 11:11)
Otega Oweh Discussion (23:56, 24:54)
“I don’t believe Otega Oweh is, you know, first team all American scorer… That’s what he is. …Jalen Lowe has to be our leading scorer if we’re going to be really good.” (Matt, 24:54)
YouTube Piracy/Streaming Phenomenon (12:26 – 22:21)
“When you donated money, he’d say, you know, ‘Hey, thanks, Matt. Thanks for the donation.’ …I wanted to hear him say my name.” (Ryan, 13:54)
“You’re admitting to paying for pirated material.” (Matt, 14:45) “That is maybe the most Ryan thing I’ve ever [heard].” (Matt, 14:16)
Mass Appeal:
“Essentially, we want cable again.” (Matt, 29:59)
“Now I kind of wish I had [DirecTV] because they didn’t do this.” (Matt, 30:03)
“It is tragic when these things occur, but it is also an example of the best of our city. And I pray for everybody involved.” (Matt, 43:27)
This episode is a prime example of KSR’s blend: diehard Kentucky basketball talk, fan culture, offbeat local color, and unfiltered personality. You’ll catch up easily—the panel’s laughter, jabs, and inside jokes are part of the ride, but rooted in genuine Wildcats passion and Kentucky community spirit.
“It’s like the third fewest points ever in Rupp arena in a half…They’re going to lock down a lot of teams. Offensively, I’m not sure they could have looked worse.”
— Matt Jones (03:23)
“You see how things are supposed to be. The whole offense looked 100 times better when Collins playing off the ball and Denzel’s playing the point guard.”
— Ryan (02:13)
“He did not miss a shot, went 3 for 3 from the three point line and then had the number one play on SportsCenter.”
— Drew (05:13)
“Ryan, you are a child.”
— Matt Jones (21:56)
“You’re paying him and putting your name on it.”
— Drew (18:42)
“It is tragic when these things occur, but it is also an example of the best of our city. And I pray for everybody involved.”
— Matt Jones (43:27)
