Well, so for that like who gets to go the finals? So Tennessee went by 25. Michigan won by 40, but it only counts as 20. Oh, so Michigan and Tennessee are now tied with 20 point wins.

Yeah.

Gonzaga, they both were to win then. That's a good sign. But like say Gonzaga, that won by 10 instead of being 30 points behind Michigan. They're only 10 points behind Michigan. Yeah.

One by 10. Does that mean they covered?

Well, I just think they're like I said, the best team in the country and I do not want to play them.

Kansas won by 10 as well, so they're right there. Yeah, I would be frustrated, Drew, if I was in this tournament and we won both games but we didn't win by enough. That would, that would, I'd be like, that's a weird tournament. I don't like that.

[Drew Franklin]

I actually hate this format because I watched Iowa State, St. John's and it was a great game. I mean they're back and forth is close most the game. Iowa State wins by one, but they're going to get punished for a good win that came down to the wire because they didn't win by 10. Should be a bracket format.

[Matt Jones]

And Tennessee got to play Rutgers. You know, Rutger stinks So it is a little unfair. But I mean, ultimately they're just doing this to play good teams anyway, so. All right, I have to say something. We've yet to find Ryan this. This. This super fan from.

No one has. We have. We had over a thousand unique phone numbers. Send a text yesterday, which is an amazing amount of people to text the text machine just. And actually have substance. And not one person knows this guy.

So who is he? I have pictures of people who've taken pictures with him at games at like other UK games. But Drew, no one knows who he is. At least hasn't told me yet.

I'm surprised because like you and on Bond. Bond that Bridge. On Facebook, there's multiple pictures of people with him, but it's like he's just someone they in passing see games get a quick photo, but no one actually knows him.

[Matt Jones]

It's kind of a good hardcore KSR fan base. Got about 16 to 17,000 people on it. You should go join it. But there is a post there about people who have met him, but no one, no one has sent me a name or a place he's from. Shannon, that. That really surprises me. I mean, over the years I've been able to get senators phone numbers. How do we not know who this guy is?

Is this the one guy that's going to be so elusive we never find him, never see him? I mean, he's going to be in another game, but he's at him.

[Matt Jones]

He's. It seems like he's at every game.

But nobody knows who he is.

Well, then one of us who's there at the game just needs to go down there, tap him on his spike shoulder pads and say, hey, who are you?

But I don't want to wait a year. I'd like I was.

I don't know if you can see him on the camera right now, but the grin he has on his face tells me this is going nowhere. Like, I think he has one dialed up that he wants to do again at this moment. And I feel partially guilty being the chaperone these last two days.

Well, he doesn't do it as much in front of me because I give him the death stare. Yeah, but when it's you and Mario, he doesn't feel. He doesn't feel inhibited.

I got to do better. I got to do partially on me, which gets me.

We were. Okay. And he has the blue wedding ring. Right. Which gets me to a wedding ring question. This is for married people or people who have been married. So, Shannon, you're out. Drew and Ryan. So I guess Our vice president, J.D. vance, what his wife's name is. What's that? What's her name?

Is it Mrs. Vance?

I don't know. I don't know her first name, but she was seen in public. She was giving a speech or something. She didn't have her wedding ring on. Okay. And a lot of people were like, oh, what's going on? She doesn't have her wedding ring on. They released a statement yesterday that said something to the effect of, oftentimes she gets busy and she's washing dishes or something, and maybe she doesn't put the wedding ring on, but she and the vice president still love each other and are together. So I have a question about wedding rings. I have always. And having never been married, I don't know, but I've always kind of thought, isn't the thing, like, you never take it off, like, ever? Or when are you allowed to take it off? Like, when is it okay to take it off? I mean, she gave a public speech, so that's a Little strange that she didn't, but. But her. The premise was she had taken it off for something else and just forgot to put it back on. Is that something that happens? Like, when in wedding ring world, are you allowed to take it off? You two that are married, what's the rule?

Drew's the only one currently married. I'll let him take.

Okay, well, I mean, Ryan, you were married, but you.

But you. So you've been through this with you multiple times. So, like, you have experience. What's the rule?

I always felt like you never took it off ever.

I did. I showered. I did. The only time I ever took it off in both my marriages is when I was playing softball. I would take it off during the softball game. That was it.

I take mine off a lot, though. Like, literally, when I left the house this morning, I was like, whoop, left that at home. Oh, well.

So do you take it off, like, every night?

Not every night, but frequently at night to sleep.

Is it that sometimes when I'm just.

Working, I'll put it on the desk next to my.

Mine's actually a little too big, so I don't swim in mine. It would probably fall off. I've actually been standing up with my arms by my side with Abby next to me, and my ring has fallen off, and she heard it bounce, like, so mine's a little too big. I take it off a lot now. I usually. I try to wear it when I'm out, but, like, right now.

So clearly, by the way, love you, Abby. Sorry about this, but right now, I'm currently not wearing it. But my thought Was I'm going to go see Ryan in the studio.

I had no idea.

No, that's right. No, but it's a good question because I do take mine off a lot.

They've got those, the rubber ones now where you can wear them and they're kind of snug, like.

Yeah, they're like rubber or what do you get? Those have a rubber.

Who gets a rubber wedding ring?

Yeah. Then that way you go swimming or.

You get a rubber ring.

I have a silicone ring.

So you could, like, you don't want to wear your wedding ring if you're swimming or. Or whatever. You can wear that rubber one for.

The reason I mentioned that mine falls off so much like vacation. I'll wear a cheap one because.

I know, but is the point of wearing a cheap one to be like, I'm taken and I don't want to use my good. Like, what's the point of that?

[Drew Franklin]

Well, for me, it's because mine will literally fall off and I'll lose it. And I don't want to go on vacation and lose an expensive ring.

[Matt Jones]

But I have a coin show that you're together with your wife.

[Ryan Lemond]

Yeah. I think you wear it to show a sign. I'm committed to my wife and I'm going to tell everybody who looks at me I am.

Like, imagine Ryan walking down the street without a wedding ring. He's going to get stopped every couple.

[Matt Jones]

I mean, women are going to be coming all over the place. All over the place. So let's do women. Just a second. Are the rules different for them because their ring might be very expensive? Do they take it off?

[Ryan Lemond]

I know it used to be, like, it's practice for some women to do it when they are doing the dishes. Because the old stories where to go down. They slip off and go down the drain, and you got to call the plumber.

[Shannon]

We don't have dishwashers in the year 2025.

[Matt Jones]

I mean, I don't know if the vice president's wife is hand washing the dishes.

[Shannon]

I don't buy that.

[Drew Franklin]

But even like just washing your hands, a lot of people take it off over a sink. If you got a ring with some value, you're going to be very careful over.

[Matt Jones]

What would you say women wear it more or less?

[Drew Franklin]

I would guess more. Also, theirs is always typically a little more to show off.

[Ryan Lemond]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

Like, they got.

[Drew Franklin]

They actually have a nice piece of jewelry. I mean, not that mine.

Yes, no doubt. If. If I go out with the fellows and I. Oh, whoops, my wedding ring. I left it at home. Yeah, that's not a good sign as that's my. My wife is not going to be happy about that.

Well, it's interesting because I had never really considered it till. Till this whole thing. I don't like wearing rings or jewelry, Shannon, So it's yet another reason I don't know if I can get married. I don't like wedding cake. Yeah. O. So that's part of it. I don't like dressing up. That's part of it.

Just want to get married in a hoodie. I mean, you could do that at your wedding.

[Matt Jones]

No, I mean, I would do it and then, but the idea of having a ring on all the time. I don't like rings and I don't really like accessories.

[Shannon]

Sounds like you don't like marriage.

[Matt Jones]

Well, I mean, there's a reason why I take mine off a lot at home.

[Drew Franklin]

Mine comes off. Especially if I'm at my desk typing. It will just sit there right next to my mouse.

Hey, man. Follow up from a conversation yesterday and a group that I think has went unscathed and without criticism through this whole conversation we've had the last two years. And that's the administration at the University of Kentucky. They're the board in this scenario that's responsible for managing Mitch Barnhart, the ad, the CEO. And outside looking in. I can't tell that they've done anything.

[Matt Jones]

You've got Mitch.

It's failed to adopt or adapt to any of these emerging business trends. The product on the field is bad. Everything around the product on the field is bad. Game day atmosphere, like Drew was talking about earlier. And they seem to be negligent in their duty in managing him.

[Matt Jones]

Well, this is why I think it's so important that when a school hires a board of trustees that they don't just hire like random people right now. This is something that they're, in theory, they did with this champions blue. Thing is, let's get business people to run our athletic department. I like that. In theory, we'll see how it works in practice. But, you know, so. But when the board of trustees, they tend to be political appointees of the governor, which often means just that you were a political, you know, donor or whatever of the governor. And. And I don't think that's a good system. I don't care who the governor is. I just don't think that's a good system. So I'm kind of agree with you. There needs to be more oversight because somebody should have looked at this contract, especially the 60 day provision, and gone. Why are we doing this?

Yeah. And Matt, look, to my opinion, it's more important to get the ad part fixed now because two years from now we can have a new ad that starts fixing the stuff around the football program. Okay. Whether it be game day atmosphere in IL or whatever. And then we're even more attractive to a prospective coach. Or we can just be status quo for the next two years.

[Matt Jones]

I think that's. Somebody has to have a completely. That's a completely fair point. And there are parts of it, and I appreciate the call. There are parts of it that are easily fixable. The relation to fans in the game day atmosphere that is fixable. And the fact that they haven't done it for years, when it's been a problem for years and has showcased that they don't get it. They don't understand. They don't. And I believe that the reason they don't is because that athletic department has no connection to the fan base. They do not understand them. Mitch doesn't deal with them. And they are in an old era. You know, a year ago I've told this story, they escorted Mario out of a media thing because he wasn't like real media or something because he was a social media person. And the fact that in 2000, at the time 24, they didn't think social media people were real media people. Showcases. They have no idea what the world is like right now. They I yelled and got them back in. But the fact it even happened is an example of how far behind they are on even knowing what motivates people anymore. I mean, I remember when they escorted Mario out, they were like, you know, this is for real media. I'm like, Mario has only worked with us for two months. He already has more followers than almost all the other media. And you're saying he like the fact that you don't understand that that person matters is part of the problem. And that's what frustrates me.

It's a joke around the media. I always say, man, I wish I worked for a local newspaper. My radio show and my website I do aren't big enough. I need the local radio.

It is hilarious to me though, when people are like, you're taking up for your friends. We get treated worse than media that has 1/50 the listeners and views we do. It's ridiculous. I'm not trying to be rude because I like these people at the newspaper, but the amount of people that read the Herald Leader is not as it's like 1 20th as much as who read one. But it's just the principle of the thing about not understanding what moves your people. You know, you. If. If you ran an institution. Athletics is a business. It's also pr, and they are terrible at pr. Especially in football. Yes, especially in football. In basketball, they've gotten much better. The new the Pope, people have recognized it and have made that a priority, and it is better still don't. I still don't think it where it needs to be, but it's much better. But in football, they are playing in a different era there. I mean, literally there. There's barely gotten to the blog era. Forget about the social media era. And you know that. And then you wonder why things are not the way you want. They had the view over there. Well, if we win, none of this is going to matter. Well, there. They may go to a bowl, Shannon. And it still matters. They still haven't necessarily won the fans.

Hey, Matt. Comment and then a question. I think that. I think that we're definitely gonna see another year of Mark Stoops. So I'm kind of embracing that. And I think that two things, you know, need to happen and you've hit them both. But two things need to happen moving forward, one of which is they need a complete overhaul of fan relations and the in game experience. They need to hire somebody like they do.

They need to hire somebody. And I've been told, by the way, I have been told. I was told this a few weeks ago, JMI has a guy from like San Diego who was a big part of making the Padres in game experience. I'm told that's really good. I haven't been that they are. That they have a person to try to do that next year. I hope that's true. I haven't heard any more about it, but that would be a positive.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And also the whole, you know, just fan relations, tailgating, all that stuff that we've talked about before, you know, they just need, they need somebody that's gonna, they're gonna improve that. And then also I think that they need to. To really look at the staff around Mark. If he's gonna stay and I'm fine with him staying, then they really need to look at the staff and really take a, you know, a deep inventory of. Of who's valuable. I think that really, to me, the only one that is like definitely keep is. Is Brad White. The rest of them, I think we need to have a conversation and figure out if they're the right fit for. For us moving forward.

I think these are all good points and I appreciate the call. And this is hard specifically for Ryan Drew, me. We've been dealing with these people both in the media department and in the football department and the athletics department for 20 years. But part of the problem, Drew, is that we've been dealing with the same people for 20 years and there's no new blood. Right.

I always joke that if I got in a time machine and went back to that went back to 2005 and went to a game, everything would be right.

Twenty years ago, things like picking Players. Eddie Grant I like, but, I mean, what training does Eddie Grant have in being a football gm? But he just has the job, right. I don't know how he got it. There came a point where I, like, a year ago, a year and a half ago was like, okay, KSR's got to embrace a new area. I didn't know Mario. I hired him. Can I ask you a question, Shannon? I. I didn't really understand this. When the Rock and Roll hall of Fame happened. I was reading about the White Stripes, so I didn't really, like. I wasn't following that kind of music when the White Stripes were really popular.

And I always had the understanding that they were brother and sister.

No, they told everybody that so that people would stop asking if.

But they were actually a couple.

Yes. And then they got divorced and still played.

Okay. So that's what I'm saying. So when did people find out they weren't brother and sister?

They kept that secret up until like, just maybe five years ago, six years ago, something like that.

Did people suspect they were married or did we all. Because I always just. I mean, again, I didn't follow them, but I was just assumed they were brother and sister.

Well, there was always, you know, are they brother and sister or are they married? And eventually.

Why did people think they were married? Like, I would never assume. Assume two people who said they were brother and sister were married. What made people suspect they were married?

Well, they didn't know at first. So after they said their brother and sister, that's why they said that. Then after that, they kind of just let it go. Right. They just assumed. Okay. They say they're brother and sister, their brother and sister, but turns out they were actually married.

Is that not really strange?

Did people know their last name? Were both Jack and Meg White? I mean, that's the only thing I could think of is that.

Yeah, well, but if she wasn't married and they were brother and sister, they would have the same last name.

But am I. Does no one think that's weird? For 15 years, say you were brother and sister, and then you were. Why didn't they just say they were married?

I guess that when they got divorced, they didn't want that to be a thing. So they just.

They were already divorced?

Yeah. I'm not sure what year they got divorced, but at some point they got divorced, and I think they just wanted to try to cover it up and just say they're brother and sister.

But I thought they came out of the gate saying they were brother and sister. Did they not?

They were divorced very early in their.

Like, before they blew up, but then they.

So they were kind of stuck with it.

Okay, so then they. So then they kept going even after they had divorced.

Well, imagine like, you know, your entire career is attached to this person that you just got divorced with.

That's amazing, though.

They got divorced in 2000, and I mean, they. Several years after that.

Yeah. So that's amazing that they played all of those years together, divorced, and were a band traveling the world and seemed to like each. Like, that's amazing that they could do.

That, you know, probably had separate tour buses.

[Matt Jones]

I would assume so. And probably, like, meeting significant others along the way.

Yeah. That had to be awkward.

Yeah. Wouldn't you? And the fact they were able to do that is kind of unbelievable if you think about it.

Well, I have a new detail that makes it a little weirder.

He remarried, and Meg was the maid of honor at the wedding.

Dude. I don't know how people do that. I really don't. I mean, I give them. Like, I have really good relationships. Like, I. I've had, like, four, you know, four or five serious relationship, and I have really good relationships with all of those people. But that's another thing, though, to have them be the maid of honor in your wedding. You know, it's one thing to get along yeah, that.

To work with them every day.

The UK administration, when it comes to football has just, for lack of a better word, fumbled it so many times. They took away some of their tailgating area. They made them give up some of their seats. They discontinued the women's clinic. They don't do the fraction of fan day. What it should be the spring game this past year. I mean, they should be building this relationship with the fan base. Instead, they can continue to try to tear it apart.

Think about what the basketball team did this year, where they just threw together that fan thing on the day of the Big Blue Madness.

[Ryan Lemond]

Yeah. Yeah.

And that will be better in the future. But the mere fact that they tried to do it, Drew, is an example of how the basketball team gets it more than the football team. Yeah.

Pro can't even talk. Pope has injected some life and some PR into all of this. I know we made a big deal out of the family day, but there's been so many fan events, you know, before that it had died. Both sports were pretty bad until Pope got here. And he's been very intentional of trying to bring everyone in, and that's why everyone likes him so much and is kind of forgiving when he's taken some.

It has all my birth certificate information, but when I took it to the DMV in Louisville, they looked at it like it was an alien artifact. It would not let me get the real ID with it. And I've never talked to anybody else that has one of these. I was curious. Have you all ever seen that?

I've not. So it's like a credit card birth certificate?

Do you know where you got.

I figured it would be better than the paper version.

Apparently Ryan, for 14 years in the 80s and early 90s, you had the option when you were born in Kentucky to also for $3 more get a plastic credit card size birth certificate you could carry in your wallet. It does not count as an official document, but it was issued by the state and then they stopped doing it in the mid-90s.

My mom chimed in on that too. She remembers them offering it almost like a little souvenir gift shop.

It was like you could, you could get it with it for a few extra dollars. A lot of people listening to have it. So there you go, Shannon. We learned something new every single day.

I have a story I want to tell you. Drew this will. You may have already read this. Ryan. I think you're going to like this story.

Specifically, there's a book called Expensive Basketball, which is. Which I'm reading right now. It's by a guy named Shay Serrano. Drew really likes him. This is my first book. I've read of his. Drew, I think you have, like, all of his books.

[Drew Franklin]

I have every book he's ever written and wrote, written, and I pre order all of them.

[Caller]

I love them.

[Drew Franklin]

I mean, everything he puts out is good.

[Matt Jones]

So he's right. This one's about pro basketball. And it's. It's like stories about pro basketball. And there's a story I wanted to quickly share about LeBron James that I think is funny. All right, so LeBron James is playing basketball, and I guess I believe the player there. I believe they're playing against the Wizards, okay? And it's a big game, and it's in the playoffs. And Gilbert Arenas, he. Every time they would play against Cleveland, which is who he was on. Do you know. You know, Damon Jones, he was part of this whole gambling scandal, right?

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

Okay. So Damon Jones was his teammate. And Gilbert Arenas. Damon Jones owed Gilbert Arenas money from a card game, okay. And it really made Gilbert Arenas mad, by the way. We should have seen the Damon Jones thing coming, Shannon. By the fact that he still owed money for people from card games when they played the NBA.

[Shannon]

That would make sense.

[Matt Jones]

Really made him mad. He owed him, like, $50,000. So every time the Wizards would play Cleveland, Gilbert Arenas would make it his job to get Damon Jones and light him up, okay? Because it made him so mad. And he would play his best games against Cleveland because Damon Jones was gardening. He hated him. It got to the point they played each other in the playoffs, Ryan, and they couldn't even play Damon Jones. Gilbert Arenas would crush him so much, they had to keep him on the bench. Wow. All right, now, big time game. Wizards are up one. Gilbert Arenas gets fouled with, like, three seconds left. With a chance to basically ice the game. He gets up to shoot. He gets nervous. He misses the first one. It's time for the second one. LeBron famously then goes up and starts talking in Gilbert's ear. You can see this online. He starts talking in Gilbert's ear, and Gilbert looks at him like, what are you doing? And he keeps talking. And people have always wondered, what did LeBron say to him? Because in the second free throw, he misses by, like, two feet. And people are like, lebron must have rattled him, Gilbert. Apparently, LeBron whispers today to Gilbert Arenas and says, if you miss this, you know he's going to get You. That's all he says. All right. You know he's going to get you. Well, what did he mean? Damon Jones, who had not played the entire game, they check him in for the final play and Gilbert arena sees him and goes, that can't be what he means. They're not putting this game in. He is not so petty. They're going to put Damon Jones in for this final play to score. He's like, there's no way they do that. What do they do? LeBron runs a play, kicks it out to Damon Jones, hits a shot at the buzzer, and the Wizards.

[Ryan Lemond]

Wow.

[Matt Jones]

And the story is in the book for how petty LeBron is. He was mad that he had embarrassed his friend about this $50,000 and he waited until the playoffs and then got it to where his friend hit the shot to knock him out.

[Ryan Lemond]

Wow.

[Matt Jones]

I kind of think that's an awesome story, Shannon. Do you?

[Shannon]

It is, yeah. That he waited for that moment, because I'm sure they played more throughout the regular season and other games, but he waited for that moment in the playoffs.

[Matt Jones]

And even Gilbert Arenas apparently admitted in a podcast later on that it shook him. And he still to this day is mad about the fact they checked him. Guy had not played the whole game, checked him in to hit the winning shot at the end.

[Shannon]

That never. I mean, I'm sure that never happens.

[Matt Jones]

You know, And Drew. Drew arena says, I saw him come in and I was like, that they're not going to let him shoot. They're not going to do it. And then he did it and they ended up winning.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. I even saw the video of arena still on this. It went viral when Damon Jones got arrested. Because in 2006, arena says, that's our gambling group, Damon Jones and LeBron, which kind of raised some red flags about LeBron's participation in all of this. But it also goes to show you these. There's these little games within the game, not necessarily like Terry Rosier stuff, but these guys have their trash talking inside stuff going on all the time. And LeBron, that was an all timer.

[Matt Jones]

That's an all timer right there, I have to say. Who's next?
