Drew Franklin here. Kentucky Sports Radio. It is Monday, December 29th. Our year is almost over. As always, Kentucky Sports Radio is sponsored by the T.J. smith Law Office. Called T.J. what did he do? Drew?
Ryan Lemond
He'll make him pay.
Drew Franklin
He'll make him pay. We got our Clark's Puppy shop phone numbers. 855-9-280-228-7-859-280. Cats and our Avision glass text machine.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, no, I cannot remember it. It's 859.
Drew Franklin
I've got it.
Ryan Lemond
You're gonna have to do it. I've forgotten the system that you created this summer.
Drew Franklin
I was so sure you're gonna Remember this.
Ryan Lemond
A five nine.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
No, no. 502. 502 seven.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
30 something. 30 something. I don't have it. What is it?
Drew Franklin
502 seven. Because five plus two equals seven 35, 36, 80. Just rolls off the tongue.
Ryan Lemond
How could I possibly forget that?
Drew Franklin
502-735-36-80. The Aviation Glass tech machine is back in hand because Matt is not with us this week. He's off. Matter of fact, Drew, Matt is off, Shannon is off, Billy R Sports is off, and Mario is off.
Ryan Lemond
How does this keep happening when I'm working? I distinctly remember a meeting where we all can't leave at the same time. And now this is twice in one calendar year where everyone's just. Just left and left me behind. At least I have you this time. Earlier, you were part of the group that left me too.
Drew Franklin
Well, they. They put all this on your shoulders because they know you could handle it, okay? And that's why we had Drew week. We had Drew Palooza all week, you know, with all your special guests. You hosted the show, did a great job. That's why we had total faith and confidence in you.
Ryan Lemond
Wasn't Shannon on vacation last week?
Drew Franklin
I think he was and he gets.
Ryan Lemond
A vacation this week.
Drew Franklin
I texted him last night. I said, shannon, I said, are you back in Kentucky yet? He said, no. I said, when are you coming back? January 2nd.
Ryan Lemond
Unbelievable. Well, I feel like it's been a vacation, I don't think. Have we had a morning show since last Tuesday? No, it's been quite the gap here.
Drew Franklin
Tuesday before Christmas, the Bellarmin game. We did the 30 minute KSR with Jack Pilgrim and me. Then we did the pregame show, had the game, did the post game show. We've not had a live show since. Not even the pre show was live this morning. So we are first. This is our first time back. So let's just kind of recap. How was your Christmas?
Ryan Lemond
Oh, it's a great Christmas. Also great to be here at Lexington Catholic High School.
Drew Franklin
We are at Lexington Catholic High School. Yeah. The Lexington Catholic Christmas holiday classic they've had for over 30 years is going on this week. And they're down to the final four. We'll tell you all about who's playing today and what's coming up. But they were nice enough to invite us to come out today. So I'm like, well, yeah, yeah, we'll do it. Come out here. Want to do the show during a little basketball?
Ryan Lemond
We've done this many times. I remember one year we got some Ben Johnson T shirts when he scored a million points. This one feels a little awkward. I don't remember an active practice. You know, Brandon Salzman's down there trying to coach him up and we're up here yapping about ksr. I feel like we're disturbing him a little bit. It's kind of quiet down there.
Drew Franklin
And that's. That's the Lex Cath varsity team and they played tonight in the final four at 6:30. So I guess this is their shoot around, walk through shoot around.
Ryan Lemond
It's a big Hank Woodall down there.
Drew Franklin
Hank Woodall, who wears number 41. The Mark Pope 41 is back at Lexington Catholic. So. Yeah. So how was your Christmas? What did you get? What was under your tree?
Ryan Lemond
Wasn't a normal Christmas. We didn't do a lot of gifting. You know, Abby and I are expecting, so all the gifts we got are baby clothes and baby things.
Drew Franklin
The days of you getting something are over.
Ryan Lemond
Those are long gone. I'm fine with that. A little bit of unique circumstances. We have some health problems going around in the family. My mom is in the hospital. She had surgery last week. It went well, so we're happy there. But she's still recovering. So it was a. It was a unique Christmas. I spent time in the hospital. We didn't get our decorations up, so it didn't feel like Christmas. But we still enjoyed the time away outside of the circumstances. Made it up to Ohio for a night to check in on Abby's family have. They're going through stuff too, so. The Franklins, we have a lot on our plate, but we still managed to get through the holiday and have a good one.
Drew Franklin
I'm glad you said that about your mom because at the end of the post game show, I tried to give a shout out to get a prayer chain going for our family. Got a little emotional because your mom means a lot to us. Matt's dad Larry, going through some stuff and just kind of all hit me all at one time. But I'm glad you said that. Your mom is doing. Oh, she went through the surgery fine and she's doing a little better.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, that's why I was gone Tuesday. I missed the Bellarmin game too. She Was in surgery during the game, but she's over at uk. It went well, so thank you to the team. She's still recovering. Hopefully get her out soon. But it was a different last week for us. But all things considered, it went well and we're pushing forward. Very ready for 2026, though. Ryan, I gotta admit, the list of things we've gone through this year is. Is a bit much for one one family to take. So we're very excited about New Year's Eve coming up, but we're doing well overall.
Drew Franklin
The Franklin family is way overdue for some good news happen in that family.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. But other than that, we still enjoyed Christmas. Had some time away, as I said, I didn't get to see Bellarmine, but I tried to stay in touch throughout that wild day. I heard before I had to go over the hospital on Tuesday, I did hear your. I don't want to call it awkward because it wasn't awkward, but that was like a weird. Y' all did a morning show, then flipped a switch. I don't even think there was a commercial break. But I heard you and Jack the last time KSR was live on Tuesday. So thank you, Jack, for filling in. And you did a good job in those unique circumstances before the rare 1pm weekday game.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. The 10:30am basketball pre game show started, so we had to fill 30 minutes of KSR. So we tried to do it a little bit. I also wanted to say that Matt's dad, Larry, also doing better. He's home recovering. So, you know, life threw us a couple curve balls, but we're getting through it. My dad's going through some stuff right now, so everybody's kind of on the injured list, on the disabled list right now.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, we appreciate all the prayers from the listeners and everyone I know. Matt posted some selfies with his parents. They were all smiles. They're doing well. We won't hear from him for a while, but they're doing as good as can be, too.
Drew Franklin
So you mentioned the Bellarmine game. That's obviously the biggest event that's happened since we've been gone. There's only really two storylines. I want to get your take on both of them. One, the emergence of Cam Williams. Eight three pointers. Matter of fact, he was eight of 10. He only took 10 shots. All three. Three. All of them were three pointers and he hit eight of them. That's the Cam Williams we've been waiting to see since he signed as he committed during March Madness last year.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, well, I'll Take my victory lap. He was my MVP pick. The MVP run that I'm on this season is truly historic.
Drew Franklin
It is unbelievable.
Ryan Lemond
I'm not great at picking the outcome of the games or the scores of games, but I'm close to batting a thousand on MVP picks. I and others have been saying here recently, more Cam Williams and more Cam Williams. Whatever it takes, give him an opportunity. I didn't foresee him to go off quite like he did, but I did know there was a lot more that he was ready to unleash. And I'm glad he had a breakout game. You know, I know it's Bellarmine. Leave the opponent aside. He needed to see some shots go in. And having a career day like that, it just gets me excited about what he can do next. When we finally get back to playing basketball here on Saturday, the guys that.
Drew Franklin
Go to practice, they just say, he just doesn't miss in practice. Well, that hadn't translated into the games. Okay. We saw it against Bellamy, what they're talking about now.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. And he and Noah are considered the two shooters who have shot so well in practice. But Williams just has another level to his game that Noah can't reach. Defensively, he's been pretty solid all year. There's a point where he had the highest plus minus on the team. He's been rebounding well when he's in, he's just. His opportunities have been limited, but here lately just keeps getting better and better and stacking those games as now he's made it to where Pope has to have him in the main rotation. Maybe not a starter, but he's gonna have to play a lot of minutes.
Drew Franklin
I was gonna say, do you start him now? Because they seem to play better when you. When you got somebody on the can, spread the floor, they can knock down shots like that. That just opens up things for Otga, who almost had a triple double.
Ryan Lemond
That's great.
Drew Franklin
Points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists. Otega, almost a triple double.
Ryan Lemond
Good for him. And then another guy who Cam would, you know, he's got to take somebody's minutes. I mean, Diabate had a great game. He did quite as filling up the box scores those other guys, but he showed how valuable he is. All three of them were great. I will say, since I wasn't watching, there was a moment where I looked at my phone early in the game, and it was like Bellarmine was winning, like 15 to 14. And I put my phone back in my pocket. I was like, I can't go through this today. But what happened in the beginning, I know it got better and it turned into a beautiful, incredible, extraordinary win. But why was it close in the beginning?
Drew Franklin
Well, that gets us to the other side, the other talking point. Bellarmine did whatever they wanted to do on offense. They executed their offense and did whatever they wanted and Kentucky could not stop them. Kentucky's defense had problems the entire game.
Ryan Lemond
Bellarmine, the Knights from, from the city of Louisville.
Drew Franklin
That's them.
Ryan Lemond
Okay. Just okay?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. That team used to be Division 2 in the same conference with Kentucky Wesleyan. Bitter rival for Kentucky. Wesleyan just did whatever they wanted against Kentucky. So their alarm bells were sounding during the postgame show like because look, you know, again against Indiana they held Indiana and St. John's both under 72 power teams and you let Bellarmine do whatever they wanted. So where are we on the defense?
Ryan Lemond
We gotta get better in these first half. So I mean we. I've enjoyed our comebacks against St. John's and our, our comeback against Indiana I think are down seven at halftime. You know, last year there was this issue. I mean Bellarmine, I know it was only for a few minutes. You go on to win by a ton and guys had great games, but whatever is happening in the early on in these games, we gotta get that fixed.
Drew Franklin
So are you all leaning more towards they're a good defensive team like they were against Indiana St. John's and just kind of took it easy against Bellarmine or are we really kind of a bad defensive team at times this one?
Ryan Lemond
I mean, I still worry about defense. This one I will chalk up to these holiday games there. If you go back in time, there's a lot of them that have been funky.
Drew Franklin
That's very true.
Ryan Lemond
At one o' clock they just gotten their big wins. A little bit of a win streak they needed before Christmas. I'll chalk that one up to just weird circumstances. I know quite. And didn't play much low. Didn't play at all. I think we'll, they'll get better now the schedule gets much harder. But I mean we'll get back to that full strength that we saw in the second half of St. John's we'll, we'll throw away Bellarmine say it was just a good game to get some guys going like Cam Williams and your boy Jasper were the big game, played.
Drew Franklin
Well, had seven assists. You know, he still maybe take some bad shots once in a while. But as a point guard I think he had seven assists and one turnover.
Ryan Lemond
And we're at the point, you know, there's Been a debate. Well they look for someone looks like they won't. Somebody's got to step up behind low and hopefully not in place of low. But that will be a concern all year. And you know in the last non conference, you know, team not ranked in the top, whatever, you know Jasper made the most of that opportunity to tell Pope he wants a little more. A little more minutes there.
Drew Franklin
So low didn't play. That was the right move, right?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, that was definitely the right move. I think everybody was in on that. You could give him. This is such a long break between games if you just take him out like they did. I mean that's. That's pretty unique middle of the year to be able to rest the shoulder for almost two weeks like that.
Drew Franklin
And as you said quaint had limited minutes, didn't play it all the second half. Played a little bit in the first half. Didn't really need him but yet kind of threw him out there enough just to kind of continue to get that rust knocked off a little bit. Getting ready for SEC place coming up next.
Ryan Lemond
I like the clip again. He just had the. The guy with the bicamer, the player's name for belly. Remember he was just in hell. He couldn't dribble, he couldn't pass, he couldn't turn around playing just kind of got his belly out, this massive wingspan out. He was doing that to St. John's big guy too. I just so excited for what he brings defensively especially in those one on.
Drew Franklin
One matchups now you know it's. It's a long break between the Bellarmin game and the Alabama game coming up on Saturday. I'm not so sure I like that long break. You know you've played these, played what 11 games and you're kind of getting yourself fine tuned. You got low back and you've got Quaden's back and they got. Take a long break for you play Alabama the lead off your SEC schedule.
Ryan Lemond
It's. It's good for low but as a fan it stinks. We just got. It does stink quite since that big win I mean rich and to see more basketball. I guess we'll get a few hope will break the silence. We have his call in show tonight maybe a press conference tomorrow so at least get some updates. But that's nothing like real basketball. I can't wait even though I don't feel great about the trip to Alabama. That's a heck of an opener for SEC play. Excited to just get back to basketball. It's too long of a lull that we're in here.
Drew Franklin
So one more thing before we put the Bellarmine game to bed. After the game was over, Mark Pope does his press conference with the media and he comes out and talks to Tom Leach and the fans. And then he rewarded the fans that stuck around after the game by going to one of the big suites down there at Rupp arena and had an autograph session. All the guys were there, they would sign whatever they want for as long as they want, make sure everybody got an autograph. Little Christmas gift for the folks. Stayed around or up arena after the game.
Ryan Lemond
That was awesome. Another win for Pope with the fan base. And in that game especially, you know, it's a lot of people that aren't normally there. They're getting hand me down tickets. Season ticket holders don't feel like going. Maybe you're in visiting family for the holidays, you get to go. Tickets are a lot cheaper, so people can buy them secondary market. It's just a. It's a different crowd at these December games when school's out and, you know, everybody appreciates it. But if all of our home games, people that would appreciate it the most, that was probably the one. So I think it was cool. Pope did it there. And, you know, being at games over three, you have so much time and players aren't rushing out of there. It's not Christmas yet, so it's very cool of them to do that. Looks like they had a huge turnout after the game. Taking advantage.
Drew Franklin
Very cool. Like you said, these are a lot of new faces, people that come in the holidays from out of town. Get those tickets in their stocking. Here's early Christmas present. Go to the game.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, there's just a different excitement for these guys. It is. You can tell it's people that aren't normally there. And not that, you know, everybody's excited to go to Rupp arena, but this is more of a once in a lifetime or once a season crowd.
Drew Franklin
So we'll take our break, we'll come back. Go to the phone lines. 859-280-22-287. We got Rick the writer in the studio in the booth answering your phone calls.
Ryan Lemond

All right, welcome back Ryan and Drew here on Kentucky Sports Radio. We are live today at Lexington Catholic High School. We'll talk a little more about that in a minute. But who's this segment sponsored by Andrew?
Ryan Lemond
How about P Rats? How about P Rats, A locally owned and operated appliance, furniture and mattress store that has served the area for over 75 years. Even after 75 years, Pratt's keeps getting better with age, being voted the best appliance retailer in the bluegrass the last six straight years. Drew Franklin
We're at Lexington Catholic High School. That we said is the, their Lexington, their annual holiday classic which is usually between the week between Christmas and New Year's. White, Greer and Maggard, the sponsor this year. It's been had a lot of different names, but it's been around Drew for like over 30 years and they've had some monster players to play in this over the years. I know a lot of guys have played in the NBA. Elton Brand played in this tournament.
Ryan Lemond
Elton Brand played in it. Okay, that's a big name.
Drew Franklin
Of course, Reed shepherd played in this tournament many, many times. Scotty Hobson from over in UHA played here. Darius Miller, Shelvin Mack, a lot of these guys that go and play in the NBA, they've all played in this tournament. Rajon Rondo played in this tournament. Forgot about him. But there's been some great stories. One is the Brandon Stockton story where Tubby just came here on a, just to watch a couple basketball games. Just so happens Brandon Stockton in Glasgow is playing. Brandon lit him up for like who they were playing for like 50 points. Tubby offered him a scholarship from watching him just in the light here in this game, this, the, this event. And of course Chris lofton had like 81 game. I mean he was, he was shooting him from, he'd step across half court and just start bombing them and just kept hitting them. So a lot of good stories that are generated out of this Lexington Catholic Holiday Classic.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, probably a lot of guys have earned scholarships to different schools over the years from this Stockton being a Headliner. I think my guy Aaron Fleener was on his team that year. That might be the one where he always says he and Stockton combined for 51. And I think like a free throw, my. Madisonville Maroons have been this in a few times. We don't have the names of Elton Brand, but we've had some good teams show up anytime Madisonville's played in this. I've made it over to catch all their games. Was Malachi Marino in this last play? Because I remember watching that game here too. So yeah, it's always a fun event. Like I said, it's been a tradition here in Lexington for. Seems like forever.
Drew Franklin
Travis Perry and Lyon county were here the last couple years as well. He played.
Ryan Lemond
Did he play Reed in this? I know they had a big showdown. It might have been in this classic.
Drew Franklin
It may have been one year. I believe it was not.
Ryan Lemond
We'll just say it is and go with it.
Drew Franklin
So coming up at noon, McCracken county is going to play Woodford county. And that's the team. That's the game that will be warming up probably towards the end of our show. Second game today is great Crossing versus Marshall. But the final four tonight, Lexington Catholic versus Boyd county and then Davis county versus North Laurel north or kind of an upset last night. They beat Brian Station last night, so. Yeah. Is the draft Kings point spread out yet?
Ryan Lemond
No, but we can pick the final four here.
Drew Franklin
Okay. Through the final four. First got first game is Lexington Catholic. Boyd County.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I mean since I'm watching in Lexington Catholic right now have a little bit of advantage. I like what they're running. I'm not going to give it away, what Brandon Salzman's been telling them. But I like the size with number 41, Hank Woodall, number 24, whose name is escaping me.
Drew Franklin
Max.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, he's, he's, he's their best player, right?
Drew Franklin
He's, he's, he's been that side since he was in middle school.
Ryan Lemond
Well, he's Duncan in middle school, so I will take Lex Catholic here. Great coaching too.
Drew Franklin
Well, Brandon Salzman is the dean of coaches around the area. He's been here at Lexington Catholic since you were a baby.
Ryan Lemond
That's right.
Drew Franklin
So long. Second game tonight then is Davis county and North Laurel. North Laurel's got the Davidson kid, Reese Davidson, who's really, really good. Davis County's got a kid too. Gosh, of course, I can't think of his name right now. He's really good also. They both have, they both have Division 1 offers who you like Davis county from the third region or North Laurel from the 13th region?
Ryan Lemond
I know Davidson's one of the top players in the state. I think he's ranked second and on three. But I. I got to go with your hometown of Owensboro in Davis County Here. Shine a little light on my side of the state.
Drew Franklin
You know Owensboro is one of my hometown.
Ryan Lemond
I know. That's why I picked him.
Drew Franklin
So we're for Davis County.
Ryan Lemond
All right.
Drew Franklin
So there's your Draft King segment. I don't know if they can have a high school tournament in DraftKings.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, probably not. But it can still be our segment. You mentioned Woodford's here. Isn't that where my guy Mello Boone went? Or did I? Am I get my schools wrong?
Drew Franklin
Say again.
Ryan Lemond
Mellow Boone. Didn't he go to Woodford?
Drew Franklin
He went to Woodford his senior year.
Ryan Lemond
That's right. I have to bring him up. Did you see. Have you kept up with how well he's playing at Western?
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
You remember I saw him at Douglas.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
And he was a freshman.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
And we used to have our KSR recruits. I think Matt had one football player he named before Star five years ago that ended up being awesome. And I said, I don't know anything about this freshman, but he's my favorite player in the state. That was when he was just a little bitty baby at Douglas.
Drew Franklin
Little baby.
Ryan Lemond
Now he has won Conference USA freshman of the year four times already. It's only December. He had a nasty dunk against Vanderbilt. They played them close at Western, having some great games. But you mentioned Woodford. He came to mind. I hated that he left Douglas to go play there. But we got to shout him out. He's having a great freshman season in Bowling Green.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Grew up here in Lexington. Played his first three years at Douglas. Transferred to Woodford for his senior year to play with Jasper.
Ryan Lemond
Still mad about it.
Drew Franklin
But Jasper then left to play an overtime elite. So that could have been a super team if those two guys would have been together.
Ryan Lemond
They went to create a duo and Jasper left him hanging. Stepped away, but still good for Mello having a great freshman season at Western so far.
Drew Franklin
So the Davis county players name is Jonathan Moss.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Drew Franklin
And he already has an offer from Maryland and he's a Mr. Basketball candidate.
Ryan Lemond
I like my pick even more. Go Davis. Count.
Drew Franklin
All right. 859-280-2287. That's our Clark's Puppy Shop phone number. We'll get some calls. We promise, today. But we got so many. So many things. We got to catch up on.
Ryan Lemond
It's been so long haven't seen you.
Drew Franklin
So let's talk. We did some basketball talk. Let's do some football talk. The biggest news from UK football I think was that Ty Bryant decided to stay. Schools were coming after him hard for obvious reasons. You know he's going to be one of the top safeties in the conference next year. There were some big name schools throwing some big time money at him. He decides to stay for his senior year at Kentucky. I think that's huge.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I mean you know the year didn't go as well as we wanted as Kentucky fans but tied it led to SEC and interceptions, led Kentucky in tackles. I think he's the only all conference player Kentucky had this year. So if you're going to bring somebody back. He was already a leader in the locker room. He's played every game since he's been at UK as a true freshman. We're excited for Stein to go out and bring in new players, new locker room but you want to keep a little continuity and I can't think of a better guy to keep than Todd Bryant in the back of that defense with how well he's played and how many games he's played.
Drew Franklin
It sounds like the reports too Coach Stein and the defensive coordinator. Is it Shackelford, the new defensive coordinator. What's his name?
Ryan Lemond
Bateman.
Drew Franklin
Bateman.
Ryan Lemond
Tell Shackelford hello.
Drew Franklin
Those two guys convinced Ty to stick around, be our leader that we need on defense and you know Cisco's been on our show. His dad Cisco's been on our show many times. He's a good friend of mine. So I was excited to see that Ty decided to kind of be a part of something new. It's going to happen here at Kentucky.
Ryan Lemond
And we lean with the local kids. You know we just mentioned Douglas available. We Ty Bryant growing up in Lakeston connection. We we've been watching him forever. It's good for him to hang around. You're mentioning other offers he got. People were watching Florida with Sumrall and just Brad White just following that operation. I mean that would be hard to turn down a team of that caliber in the conference even though Florida's been down lately. But it's good Ty made the decision to stay. I think that'll be a big help in the locker room as everything becomes new again having him around to bridge the gap.
Drew Franklin
And also coach Stein added a lot of fans were happy to see a special teams coach. Parker Fleming comes was with Stein on his staff at Oregon. Right. Like offense analyst or something in Oregon brings him here to be a special teams coach and inside receivers coach at Kentucky.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, he was the coordinator at special teams coordinator at Ohio State for several years too. But now that Roush and Luckett are saying he still might be in an analyst role and that actual true assistant recruiting spot still might be open. So Parker Fleming is on the staff, but it's unclear if he's actually going to be a true assistant. So that might still be open, but bringing him over to help with special teams guy that's been at Oregon and Ohio State in that job, my goodness. Yeah, we'll take the help. Getting a lot of coaches just from winning cultures. Even though if the team wasn't good in the last year, you're getting LSU AM, OR bringing in a lot of guys from winning places.
Drew Franklin
Great point. All right, we'll take our break, come back, we'll go to some phone calls. 859-280-2287. That's the corner, Clark's Puppy Shop. Phone number 859280. Cats, Ryan and Drew, this is Kentucky Sports Radio. Alright, welcome back. Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin here, Kentucky Sports Radio. Matt Shannon, Billy Mario, all off this holiday week. So Ryan and Drew are going to hold down the fort with Rick, Rick the Rider in the studio. We're at Lexington Catholic High School. Today. We've got some holiday classic facts you want to share with us.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, it's gotten quiet. They're really doing a lot of instruction. I feel like we're interrupting. Yeah, but right about where Brandon Salzman standing, no one can see that. But last night, Cooper Elza from North Laurel hit a full court shot in that game against Brian Station, right?
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah, they beat Brian Station last.
Ryan Lemond
Night, but a full court shot for Cooper Elza. Shout out to him. Have a few comments from the board also.
Drew Franklin
Okay. All right, let's do it.
Ryan Lemond
People are enjoying the shoe squeaks. They said it's like CBS in the background. Kind of like we're pumping in bird noises on at the Masters. We got a little, little basketball brick.
Drew Franklin
Earlier they were doing their practice and now they're doing like their breakdown. Their scout on the team. They got to play tonight. Davis. No. Who they played Boyd county, who I did hear him say averages 34 threes a game.
Ryan Lemond
Don't be giving away the game plan.
Drew Franklin
This secret, this is stat, this is facts.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Boyd county averages 34 threes a game and they hit 17 the other night against GRC. I just heard him say that.
Ryan Lemond
Okay, well, don't tell them what we Just heard about the. Because they invite us in their private practice. It's like that time we're at the SEC tournament and we weren't supposed to be in practice and Tom Hart walked over is like, what are you all doing here?
Drew Franklin
Was it Texas A and M?
Ryan Lemond
We were getting all kinds of the inside baseball we weren't supposed to get. I kind of feel like that's happening again. Also from the board though, while we're doing our show from Boyd county, James W. 1988 on KS board says watch out. One of the most underrated players in the state is Jacob Spurlock, Boyd County.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
Maybe I should go down and tell them if they don't already know.
Drew Franklin
I bet they've already talked about him on the scout. Right now they're breaking. They're breaking down what they're going to do against Boyd county tonight.
Ryan Lemond
Well, that came comes from James W. 1988 and I trust him.
Drew Franklin
I do too. You know Raijan Rondo, we mentioned him. His son is in this tournament right now. Pierre as the point guard for North Oldham. As an eighth grader.
Ryan Lemond
That's crazy.
Drew Franklin
That's crazy. And I think he's averaging like close to 20 a game already as an eighth grader.
Ryan Lemond
I. I'm torn on all this. Like players I grew up watching now having kids that are playing yes. On one hand it's cool and I'm happy for them. On the other hand, I just want to go get in bed at a nursing home and go to sleep. It makes me feel so old. Even though it is exciting that. You know, Rondo is one of a million examples. But the fact that he has a kid, even though he is only in middle school that is already playing and we're talking about and watching, that's it's. It's kind of. There's two sides to that. I don't like how old it makes me feel.
Drew Franklin
So North Oldham lost to Boyd county last night and I'm not sure who they play next in the losers bracket. But the game that's coming up is Woodford county and McCracken County. That's our game. We got.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I have your full schedule if you'd want it.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
What would you like to know?
Drew Franklin
Where does North Odom play Pierre Rondo. When is his next game?
Ryan Lemond
They play Lyon county at 4:30 today.
Drew Franklin
At 4:30 today?
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Drew Franklin
All right.
Ryan Lemond
How about you want me just run through it? 12 o'. Clock right here. Right. As the show ends, we will hand it off right to Woodford county versus McCracken.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
At 1:30, Little Marshall County Great Crossing, 230 West Jessamine versus Paintsville. I skipped over one o'. Clock. Collins versus Taylor County. Then you got a little Boyd. Lexington Catholic and North Laurel Davis county tonight.
Drew Franklin
Those are the final four in this in the championship basketball all day here, all day. White Green Maggard Holiday classic. Kind of non basketball, non sports related. You know, there was like an earthquake just down the road in Garrett county yesterday.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, Lancaster. I'm not. I'm not great at scales, but a 3.1, that seems like it's kind of big. Yeah. The stories I was reading said it could be felt in Danville and Richmond.
Drew Franklin
Oh, really?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. I don't know if everyone felt it, but it at least registered that far away.
Drew Franklin
I felt like that got under.
Ryan Lemond
Reported earthquakes a big deal, right?
Drew Franklin
I think it's a big deal. And why is it happening in Garrett County?
Ryan Lemond
And just had, you know. Luckily it wasn't too bad. No big damage or anything, but it's just more of this weather stuff happening around Kentucky. I'm tired of it.
Drew Franklin
Well, especially since it was 71 degrees yesterday. I'm outside working around my pool yesterday 71 and today driving to work. It was 45 degrees cooler.
Ryan Lemond
26 last night. I did cover zero with Matt. I've checked in with Matt.
Drew Franklin
How's he doing?
Ryan Lemond
He's doing well. I can share Matt's scoop letter if you'd like, but we did it a little after midnight. It's pretty late and I have the window to my room wide open letting the air in as it recovers. Zero. Just a few. Just a little quick nap and I get up later, it's snowing and I'm freezing. Just trying to get to my car. Crazy turnaround from open window to blizzard in just a few hours.
Drew Franklin
What in the name of Bill Mack is going on?
Ryan Lemond
I don't know.
Drew Franklin
How can I drop 45 degrees overnight?
Ryan Lemond
Is there a quake? Related maybe. Have you ever been in an earthquake?
Drew Franklin
I think I've been in two. I was in a summer school class in Jasper, Indiana and it was a chemistry class. And the beakers started shaking. You know, when the room place started, the beakers were all shaking. We didn't know what was going on. That's only one of you?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Matt and I together. We were with the tennis channel at Indian Wells out there in California. We just checked in the hotel. We were like dropping bags and then there was one while we were at the hotel together. Everything was moving. I don't know. How would it register on the scale but it felt like I was on a ride and the room was on the ride with me because everything was moving around. It was quick. Didn't last more than five to ten seconds. But I've never experienced anything like it.
Drew Franklin
But no one know damage in Garrett county though, right?
Ryan Lemond
No, hopefully not. Not in Richmond, Danville, but also felt it. But we need to figure out our weather here.
Drew Franklin
859-280-2287. Rick, who's our first caller since we're getting yacking for most of the show, got Roy up first. Roy, go ahead, Roy. Yeah.
Caller Roy
How you guys doing? I want to make two comments and see what you think about them. I watched the Oregon football game last Saturday and the second quarter all they talked about was Will Stein going to Kentucky. We got more pub on that show than you would have paid $3 million for in the Super Bowl. I wish somebody would tell Mark Pope he needs to get another point guard because if Jalen Lowe goes down, that's it, you know.
Drew Franklin
All right.
Caller Roy
I know that to be the point guard, but I don't think he can be all right.
Drew Franklin
Thank you. Let's take the two, the two points that Roy brought up, the fact that Oregon is still alive and Will Stein is staying with Oregon to be their offensive coordinator. It is giving Kentucky a lot of publicity. But are you in the boat that he needs to be here in Lexington, Boots on the ground, getting transfer portal people lined up to come in?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, selfishly I'd want him here getting his job done, but it is exciting to see him staying in it scored a lot of points in the first round, even ESPN.com this morning. The main picture on the college football page is Will Stein. Someone wrote a story. It's about more than Stein, but it's all these coaches that have taken other jobs and are finishing the playoffs. And he's a big part of it, obviously going from Oregon to an SEC school his first gig. But he is the header image on ESPN.com kind of talking about how he's going through it. It's got a lot of quotes from him about how he couldn't leave Oregon, but you know, it's keeping him busy. Says a lot of coffee, caffeine and Reliant. You know, kind of got to delegate some of your jobs right now. But he and many others are wearing two hats as they finish the playoff here.
Drew Franklin
And as long the more Oregon succeeds and scores points, it's going to make it look more and more like such a great hire that Kentucky got him to come here the next Season.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. And it was pretty cool. You know, they're cutting to, as the caller said, they're cutting to him on the sideline even though he's still in the Ducks gear. You know, we're looking at our head coach being a part of the playoff as the, as the sports winding down right now, him being in the mix. Maybe they went again and keep it going at this point.
Drew Franklin
So they play Texas Tech.
Ryan Lemond
Correct.
Drew Franklin
On New Year's Day.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. There's one New Year's Eve game. That's Georgia, Ohio State in Miami. How state Miami. Then you get George, Ole Miss and Alabama, Indiana and Oregon, Texas Tech on, on, what is it?
Drew Franklin
Thursday? Yeah, Thursday. Yeah. So I suspect a lot of Kentucky fans are going to still be watching and following Oregon because that's our guy. You know, we, I'm kind of like you, I wish he was here. But I sure do want him to succeed and win. That kind of put him in the spotlight a little bit more.
Ryan Lemond
Can help recruiting and just for his happiness.
Drew Franklin
True.
Ryan Lemond
Want him to be happy. Riding that momentum as he moves to Lexington. I just wish maybe he could throw on like a little pin or maybe a little UK emblem on his hat. I mean, we already know it's him, but just a little something extra on the sideline when they're showing him during the TV broadcast. Little tip of the cap to the Cats would be nice too.
Drew Franklin
Now Roy's other point, his other question was about the UK point guard. You know, as we said, Jalen Lowe did not play against Bellarmine. So Aberdeen got the start and he hit four three pointers and nobody even realized it because Cam Williams is throwing them from all over the place. Williams hits eight. Aberdeen did hit four three pointers. Jasper did have seven assists and just one turnover. Those two guys combined filled the point guard spot pretty well, I thought. At least in that game.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, for sure. In that game they passed the test. I still, I need to see more of doing it against a better opponent. That's where having all these quad four games, it's just so hard to learn. It's fun. It's fun watching Cam Williams go off Jasper hitting step back threes and then playing well. But you just can't really get a grade on anything where they're playing these two. They're not quad three games, they're quad four games. Kentucky hadn't played a quad three yet. It's either been a marquee game or the bottom of the barrel. But at least in the opportunity they showed, they can do it. And that's a step forward. I worry long term about Lowe's backup. Doesn't look like Pope's going to add anyone. But you know, they passed the test last Tuesday and that's all you can ask of them.
Drew Franklin
Because the last time we were live did a live show, that was a strong possibility. They were going to go out and try to find somebody overseas or in the G League or something to bring up as a backup point guard. I was against it. I just think that's a bad idea to bring somebody in the middle of the season like that.
Ryan Lemond
And now there's no rules. I mean, it was reported yesterday this Trenton Flowers Kentucky's not in the mix, but he's considering going back to college. He has played in an NBA game this year and they're talking about him potentially going back to college. It just makes no sense.
Drew Franklin
How can that be possible?
Ryan Lemond
Baylor added the guy the draft pick from a couple years ago. This sport is out of control, but it doesn't look like Kentucky's gonna take advantage of it and try to bring in anyone in at this point.
Drew Franklin
So they're 7 and 4 going in SEC play. Before the season started, most people probably had them 8 and 3, maybe 9 and 2.
Ryan Lemond
I had one loss.
Drew Franklin
You had one loss. You had them 10 and 1.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I did the video and filled out my prediction the day after the Purdue game.
Drew Franklin
Fuck.
Ryan Lemond
It's a little unfair. My emotions were riding high. Georgetown hadn't happened yet, so all I knew in that moment was one and oh against the number one team in the country. Yeah, I had St. John's as my only loss. Shows you how good I am. That's one of the wins, one of.
Drew Franklin
The wins we got.
Ryan Lemond
But yes, me and several others, I'd say a little below expectations at the state.
Drew Franklin
So do you feel good though, about going into conference play now where they are?
Ryan Lemond
I won't say I feel good. I mean they're picked second to win the league. If you were to re rank the teams right now, I would not have them second, maybe like fourth or fifth. But what we saw of quaintance and low in the second half of that game and then diabate just getting back to 100% health. I am a lot more hopeful than I was when I was sitting in Bridgestone arena in the first half of that Gonzaga game where I truly wondered if this team could even make the tournament or beat anyone. I have completely flipped on that and found some optimism with the health. But I still worry about things like three point shooting and staying healthy in a backup point guard.
Drew Franklin
If Cam Williams can shoot like that, that definitely helps him offensively.
Ryan Lemond
Definitely helps. I mean, you got to add shooting Chandler. He was great start of the year.
Drew Franklin
What happened?
Ryan Lemond
Shooting over 50% through like 6, 7 games and he's been like quiet since North Carolina. I think he's 20% lost his confidence. He'll have a wide open shot, pump fake and step into a contested one or turn down an open shot to drive into traffic and throw something up. Williams is turning a corner, but we got to get back to the confident Chandler that started the season because he'll be a big part of whatever they're going to do. They'll, they'll need him in some form of a role, especially as a shooter.
Drew Franklin
Chandler or Noah, one of those two guys needs to get back on track because I don't think we can count on Aberdeen hitting four three pointers a game.
Ryan Lemond
I just think nothing against, no, I, Williams, Chandler, I just think these guys have a little bit of a higher ceiling with everything else they can do. Yeah, but I mean if no one wants to get hot and keep making threes, they'll, they'll find some minutes for him.
Drew Franklin

The crown is yours with Avision glass. Text machine is 502-735-3680. I got this text. It says, the only thing I want for my birthday is for Drew to wish me a happy birthday.
Ryan Lemond
Rory.
Drew Franklin
And she's three years old.
Ryan Lemond
Of course I can do this. Happy birthday, Rory. Happy third birthday, and thanks for listening KSR and texting in to me and Ryan today. Hope you have the best third birthday of all time.
Drew Franklin
So do you think Rory actually texted in at 3 years old, or you think maybe dad had to help her a little bit?
Ryan Lemond
Probably not. That doesn't matter. She's busy celebrating her birthday. She doesn't need to be wasting her time texting us. She needs to be celebrating being three.
Drew Franklin
Kind of, you know, great age.
Ryan Lemond
You remember being three?
Drew Franklin
Oh, of course not, but I'm sure we had a good time. You know, she'll get a lot of goodies for a birthday, but we got some goodies for Christmas.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Did you see what Pat Kelsey's family gave him for Christmas?
Ryan Lemond
Was this the. The license plate cover? A little prank there.
Drew Franklin
His daughter not only gave him a UK license plate cover, she put it on his truck.
Ryan Lemond
That's a good prank.
Drew Franklin
So he was driving around with it before he. I think he found out what was going on.
Ryan Lemond
I don't like. I don't like when the Louisville, you know, does something cool that I. That I like. It's a nice prank Buzz, daughter. I have to commend Kelsey daughter for what she pulled on her old dad, and then he just chucked it into space. That's littering, by the way. I hope he went and found that and picked that up out of the dirt and got it in its proper, proper trash bin.
Drew Franklin
Well, I don't know his daughter, but I like her already. That's. That's a pretty good prank to put that on his truck without him even knowing it. Then he ripped it off.
Ryan Lemond
Now, I'm sorry. I was gonna add more to the Christmas gift set.
Drew Franklin
Go ahead.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I meant to bring this up on cover zero, but we didn't get to it, so I don't. I'm gonna use my cover zero research now. I have all the gifts that the quarterbacks gave their offensive line.
Drew Franklin
Oh, that's kind of a good idea.
Ryan Lemond
Did you see a lot of These?
Drew Franklin
No, I didn't see them.
Ryan Lemond
I won't read over all of them one by one, but there were some people that went a little cheap, some that went a little over the top. Aaron Rodgers got his offensive line off road. Vehicles valued at $20,000.
Drew Franklin
My goodness.
Ryan Lemond
Would you be pleased if you just showed up to practice one day and your quarterback had a $20,000 Can Am Maverick X3 off road just waiting for you?
Drew Franklin
Well, sure. I've been driving around the Masterson Station neighborhood. Do a little off roading out there. Of course.
Ryan Lemond
So you approve that?
Drew Franklin
I approve that.
Ryan Lemond
How about Pat Mahomes? He's hurt right now, down in the dumps. Teams out of the playoffs. Chiefs, I mean, they're moving to Kansas. Everything's changing around him. But it didn't stop the Christmas spirit. He got his line, his offensive line. Watches valued at 24,000 each. Meta AI glasses, golf simulator monitors, an electric bike and these fancy, expensive suitcases. Probably $40,000 worth of stuff for each member of his offensive line.
Drew Franklin
I thought you were going to stop at watches. He gave them all watches with kind of a standard, I think quarterbacks give their line. He gave him everything else.
Ryan Lemond
Jared Goff, his offensive line. Brand new golf carts. Got these monitors on him. Got the seat in the back. It's top line, state of the art golf cart. I didn't have a price on it, but you can only imagine how expensive.
Drew Franklin
Very expensive.
Ryan Lemond
All right, then. Dak Prescott got his offensive line. Maida glasses valued at $500.
Drew Franklin
Well, that's kind of cheap compared to everybody else.
Ryan Lemond
So would you be disappointed if you're in Dallas and all you get is mate of glasses and you're looking around the league and. And you're getting golf carts, $25,000 watches off road vehicles. Is Dak going a little cheap down there in Dallas? One of the highest contracts in league history, yes.
Drew Franklin
That's why I kept waiting for what else did he add to that list if that was it? When everybody else was giving him these, you said the Patrick Mahomes gave up to like $40,000 worth of gifts. And Dak Prescott gives the $500 meta glasses.
Ryan Lemond
Even Josh Allen, he's got a baby on the way, newly married. He's got a lot going on. Busy missing wide open receivers in the end zone to win games. He got everyone on his line. A quarter of a cow and a brand new grill to cook on.
Drew Franklin
Well, that's something kind of different. Probably not really expensive, but something different.
Ryan Lemond
Of all those I listed, I won't Go through anymore. There's some other ones, like Joe Burrow got dinosaur fossils for his lawn. Did you see that one? Would you appreciate a dinosaur fossil?
Drew Franklin
No. Why would I want a dinosaur fossil unless it's worth millions of dollars?
Ryan Lemond
So you're in. I'm gonna guess you would pick the Pat Mahomes. Absolutely everything. Not the Dak Prescott.
Drew Franklin
Well, even who was the. Gave the the customized golf cart.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, that was Jared Goff in Detroit.
Drew Franklin
See, that's kind of cool. You know, all these guys are golfers in the offseason and stuff.
Ryan Lemond
Even my guy, Cam Ward, a rookie for one of the worst teams in the history of football. Although we're getting better down there.
Drew Franklin
You are getting better.
Ryan Lemond
We're turning a corner. He got his. His offensive line each $1,000 airline voucher. Go. Go travel.
Drew Franklin
As far as take a trip after the season.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know if it was committed to a lot. I could go a long way on frontiers.
Drew Franklin
Very true.
Ryan Lemond
Louis Vuitton wallet and a Nintendo Switch. So there you go. That's me doing cover zero here on KSR because we didn't get to it.
Drew Franklin
Such a young quarterback knowing what the younger guys want. The Nintendo Switch.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Dax got to figure it out, though. Come on, deck.
Drew Franklin
That's pretty sad.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, he's one of the highest paid people in the league. Just Mario has a pair of those.
Drew Franklin
Do one more Christmas present. Did you see what the Rockets gave Reed Shepherd?
Ryan Lemond
No, I did not see that.
Drew Franklin
So the Rockets pranked gift all their players and gave Reed a U of L T shirt.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, I like when the NBA teams do that. I'm assuming he chucked it.
Drew Franklin
He opened it up, wadded it up, shot it in the trash can.
Ryan Lemond
Love it. Love that from Reed. I know he takes a lot of heat for wearing other team stuff. Sometimes that's the exact reaction from.
Drew Franklin
That's exactly what you see. All in the trash.
Ryan Lemond

This is that classic HBCU vibe. Non stop action. The bear dude rocking. And the crowd lit. Chance echo drum beat, everybody showing that school pride. Game like this. Yeah, it calls for an ice cold Coca Cola. Ah, crisp and refreshing. That's a game changer right there. Yeah, that taste always hits the right note. Just like the band at halftime. And just like that, we're back at it. Passionate fans smoke, cool colors everywhere. And an ice cold Coca Cola. That's a winning combo no matter the sport, no matter the yard. Everybody knows fan work is thirsty work. So grab a Coca Cola and keep that HBCU pride going.
