Nmlsconsumeraccess.Org welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Ryan Lemond
Welcome back. Hour number two KE Sports Radio, 859-280-2287 Text Machine 772-774-5254 Come on out and have it's Wednesday here at KS Bar. Also get one of the I saw this lady right here getting one of the Smash burgers. Is that right? Are you getting that, ma'?
Matt Jones
Am?
Ryan Lemond
The Smash burger. You look like you're in a Smash burger frame of mind.
Matt Jones
Those Smash burgers are really good.
Ryan Lemond
They are good. They're now like outselling the wings here. I never thought I'd see a day where we would be out selling the wings with Smashburgers. But we are. Because the way they're good, that Noche.
Matt Jones
Linda farm beef just makes a difference too. It is so good.
Ryan Lemond
Really is.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that.
Ryan Lemond
That beef is awesome.
Matt Jones
It is.
Ryan Lemond
So it works out. It works out well. Couple things here before we go the phones 859-280-2287 Duke beats Louisville Last night. Louisville came out hot, was up 13. Duke ends up winning by 13. Duke's Duke looked really good. Louisville kind of fell apart there at the end.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Louisville came out looking good. They ended up still. They were still by nine, I think at halftime. They went in the second half, but Boozer and that Evans kid, they're for Duke. They are really, really good.
Ryan Lemond
Their point guard was killing them. Yeah, boozers good.
Matt Jones
Boozers amazing.
Ryan Lemond
There's some freshman. Have you watched the kid at BYU.
Matt Jones
Play yet I've not. DeBonta.
Ryan Lemond
Have you guys watched AJ DeMonta play? He scored over 20 points a game. In seven straight games, he is. He's the number one pick, and it's not even close. And you can't help but think, because, you know, we. We were going after him, he ends up going to. To byu. You can't help think, man, what if he had ended up here? He is, like, people aren't going. Aren't getting to see him play because he plays at byu, but they will. You will. As the year gets going. He is the real deal. And boozer is not quite as good, but he's still really good.
Matt Jones
Boozer, for a big man, can step outside and hit the outside shot. I didn't think he had that. That in his game, but he's good.
Ryan Lemond
All right, Shannon, I have a story that this is for you. I feel like you're gonna like this story.
Matt Jones
All right.
Ryan Lemond
Have you read about the guy, Ebo Enoch in Ghana?
Shannon
Well, it might surprise you, but no, I have not.
Ryan Lemond
Anybody read about the Ebo Enoch in Ghana? All right, you probably didn't hear this, but if you lived in Ghana, you would know about it.
Matt Jones
All right.
Ryan Lemond
Ebo had been predicting for months that on Christmas Day, God was going to make a massive flood hit the world. And, like, Noah was going to end the world.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Ryan Lemond
And so he asked his followers over the course of two years to give him millions of dollars to build 10 arks. Okay. Okay. Because unlike Noah, he wasn't going to have one ark. He was going to have 10.
Matt Jones
A fleet of arcs.
Ryan Lemond
And so, you know, a lot of people gave him money. People came from all over the world because he said, if you want to be on the ark, be here on Christmas. Comes out that he buys Mercedes with his money, which you wouldn't think you would need on the ark. If, well, the floods happen, you think all the roads are going to go.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Shannon, she probably wouldn't need a Mercedes. You wouldn't know.
Shannon
No, no.
Ryan Lemond
But he apparently thought he needed a Mercedes. All right, so this is kind of sad. Hundreds of people show up at this place on December 25th with their belongings to get on the ark. Of course, you may or may not have seen the news. The world did not flood on December 20th.
Shannon
It was probably sunny.
Matt Jones
Breaking news.
Ryan Lemond
We got through it. People were understandably angry.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
He addressed the crowd, and would you like to know how he explained the fact that the world did not end?
Matt Jones
I can't wait to hear this.
Ryan Lemond
He said that over an intense 48 hour period. He had prayed to God and talked God into putting it off.
Shannon
Oh, please. These people probably believe that people bought.
Matt Jones
Every word of it.
Ryan Lemond
No, they're mad.
Matt Jones
Okay, good.
Ryan Lemond
Ghana. The prosecutors in Ghana have charged him with fraud, arrested him and charged him with fraud for misleading people and ruining some people's lives who picked up everything they had to come to get on this ark. And he is now being prosecuted for fraud. So here's my question for you. Clearly his prediction was not correct.
Matt Jones
Spoiler alert.
Ryan Lemond
Would do you believe Ebo Enoch? Not Ebo Walker. Shannon, That's a good guy. Ebo Walker left Kentucky. He was a mighty fine fiddle play, right? Not Ebo Walker. This is Ebo Enoch. Do you think he should be prosecuted for fraud?
Matt Jones
I think it is the true definition of fraud. He. Fraud. He fraudulently had these people donate the money and he took it.
Ryan Lemond
He did apparently build the arks.
Matt Jones
Built 10 of them.
Ryan Lemond
I haven't seen the pick. I know at least be one. I don't know if he got 10 or not.
Shannon
Money left over for nothing, but I.
Ryan Lemond
Do, I do think he at least got one arc, but go ahead.
Matt Jones
I think this just reeks of fraud. So, yes, I'm glad they prosecute him and I hope he sits a long time in jail.
Ryan Lemond
What about you?
Shannon
Yeah, it's fraud, but it's also. I mean, I know.
Ryan Lemond
I knew what your answer was going to be. You were going to say you were going to say that.
Shannon
Had no idea. Idea if it was going to rain or not. Didn't know when the world was going to end. It's kind of on these idiots for showing up on Christmas day and giving them all their money.
Ryan Lemond
What do you think about his decision when it doesn't happen to say he talked God out of doing it.
Shannon
Dude, the fact that he even showed up, I would have been long gone after I got their money. There's no way I would have been there to address the crowd. No way.
Ryan Lemond
I thought you would think that that was a clever retort by him. No. No. Okay.
Shannon
They're dumb enough to believe that too though, I guess. Or, you know, mad, so maybe not.
Matt Jones
As Christmas started approaching, he had to start thinking to himself, okay, how am I going to get out of this?
Shannon
How am I going to BS my way through this one?
Ryan Lemond
Well, you had to know the day of reckoning was coming literally for him. Maybe not for humankind, but for him.
Matt Jones
Well, I will.
Ryan Lemond
I will try to keep you up to date on how the prosecution goes.
Matt Jones
He needs.
Ryan Lemond
But everyone. But everyone agrees. Should Be. Should be prosecuted.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon
And so should those people. They should be prosecuted. Maybe check their brain.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I mean, I will say, though, Shannon, like most religions, when they started, people thought the people that believed them were crazy, Christianity included. People thought those people were crazy who believed in the resurrection of a human being. So, like, I mean, I'm not. Obviously, this guy wasn't correct, but, like, I think it's. I think it's harsh to say people are being dumb because that's what people said about the start of virtually every religion.
Shannon
But why is this guy special? Why does he know? Why does he have, like, a direct phone line to God?
Ryan Lemond
And that's what people would have said to Jesus and. Well, why do they know that's what they said to Moses?
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon
That's what they said to Jesus, though.
Ryan Lemond
Well, clearly not. But I'm just saying the idea that it's crazy that people would fall. What makes the fraud so bad to me is that human beings fall for these things. But there was a time, if you're a Christian, you believe that it was true, right?
Matt Jones
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
I just think sometimes we're very harsh to people, like, oh, their religious stories. Insane. Well, I mean, if you people thought that about ours.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Matt Jones
You know, these. This happens throughout history where, you know, Jim Jones and these people get these people to follow them and believe in them, and they do. It's. Well, wholeheartedly.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. I mean, I don't know how much you've ever read or did you ever. I think we've talked about the movie, that Jim Jones movie. Yeah, I remember that. If you ever get a chance to see that movie, that's still one of the freakiest movies I've ever.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
Have you. It was a TV movie.
Matt Jones
It's like a documentary, wasn't it?
Ryan Lemond
Well, there. There are documentaries, but there is. There is a TV movie out there that I saw when I was young that I would love to see again to see if it would freak me out as much as when I was young. It was a movie about those people that went to Jonestown. All right. Did you say you've seen it, ma'? Am? The scene where they drink the Kool Aid. I can see it in my head right now when he's sitting there and he's on the microphone and he's saying over the pa, telling people to come down and drink, and he's talking to the women and he's talking to the kids, and it's the sad. And it's long. It's like 30 or 40 minutes long. And they show everybody doing it. And then I know the guy that went to Trancy, Ned Beatty plays the congressman who comes down and gets shot.
Matt Jones
I've seen that.
Ryan Lemond
Have you seen it?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I've seen that. Now you.
Ryan Lemond
I remember that's on a streaming service. I would not the documentaries. This is a dramatic movie. But it's really good that if I remember correctly.
Matt Jones
Yeah. They accurately try to portray how it went down.
Ryan Lemond
But you can see like how people.
Matt Jones
I don't know how they fall for it and come such believers, but they do.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. All right. Completely switching gears. Wes Miller, the coach at Cincinnati. Did you. Cincinnati fans are mad at Wes Miller. They don't think he's done a very good job and they're kind of tired of his words. So on the post game radio show after their most recent loss, which I think was last night, he spoke. I just want you to listen to this and listen to how it played out. Go ahead. Coach Miller has joined us now courtside here in Morgantown.
Matt Jones
Coach, I feel for everybody in that locker room right now. You did a great job.
Ryan Lemond
Don't feel.
Matt Jones
Don't feel for us. We get to come out and play basketball. I don't care about the noise, Dan. I don't care.
Ryan Lemond
I don't care what people think. I only care about my team and.
Matt Jones
I care about my program. And you know what?
Ryan Lemond
It's almost comical. We'll get a break. We just got to stay together and stay brilliant. It's us against the whole world.
Matt Jones
We know that we're going to get a break. We're going to keep going.
Ryan Lemond
Period. Period. I'll answer any questions you guys want.
Matt Jones
Everybody can quit on us. Everybody.
Ryan Lemond
I hear it.
Matt Jones
Everybody keep.
Ryan Lemond
Go ahead.
Matt Jones
Us against the world.
Ryan Lemond
Felt like a little overreaction there, didn't he?
Matt Jones
I think it was.
Ryan Lemond
The announcer just goes, well, I feel bad for. And he just starts ranting about how nobody believes in him and all the fans can quit and that's fine. Like, what was that about?
Matt Jones
I didn't think coaches were supposed to listen to the noise. He's obviously.
Ryan Lemond
That was a little bit of an overreaction to what seemed like a, hey, man, tough loss against the world.
Matt Jones
You don't want to root for us? Fine. Get out of here. We don't want you. We're going to. We're going to play us against the world.
Ryan Lemond
When coaches start seeing the fans as the enemy, they're done.
Matt Jones
That's it.
Ryan Lemond
I'm gonna go ahead and make a prediction. I don't know anything about the situation at Cincinnati. But Wes Miller, by the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if he's not the coach.
Matt Jones
His days are numbered.
Ryan Lemond
The moment you see the fan as the enemy, you're out. The fan is your customer.
Matt Jones
That's right.
Ryan Lemond
The fan is your customer. The day you start hating the fan is the day you are done. Because he is your customer. He or she.
Matt Jones
How many times did we say we were here long before you were here? We're gonna be here long after you leave.
Ryan Lemond
You think Cincinnati. How long's Wes Miller been there?
Matt Jones
Two, three years, if that. It hasn't been very long.
Ryan Lemond
When you start saying it's us against the world and us does not include the fans, you are about to leave.
Matt Jones
Yeah. You need to win the fan base.
Ryan Lemond
Because the fans are the us.
Matt Jones
Yep.
Ryan Lemond
Right. And I think that coach. I think he's. He's. He's messing with that. Who's next?
Shannon
Josh.
Ryan Lemond
Josh. Go ahead, Josh.
Caller
Hey, I got a question. Do you think Mark Pope should borrow Stein's gm? And also, do you think that.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Caller
And that's it?
Ryan Lemond
No, I. I think so. So he's asking for people here who can't hear the question. He's asking if the basketball GM situation beat. Should be like the football. And I appreciate the call.
Matt Jones
I.
Ryan Lemond
The football is much harder. A lot more people.
Matt Jones
A lot more people.
Ryan Lemond
A lot more people. Very small time frame. You got to get players in, like, seven days. And in this case, our coach is in Oregon right now. So I think the GMs. The guy from Oregon. Whose name? What's his name?
Matt Jones
The head coach.
Ryan Lemond
Will Stein, you mean? No, I'm talking about the gm.
Matt Jones
Oh, I don't. Can't think of his name.
Ryan Lemond
We got this guy from Oregon. Pete, maybe. Anyway, there's Pete Nocta, who's from Louisville. Sorry. And then there's a guy that was more correct. Anyway, those two guys deserve a heck of a lot of credit. Yeah, that's a hard job. Now, does Mark Pope need a gm? I would argue yes. Not so much, because there's that many guys. Because there's not. You only have to get a handful. Because I think it's become clear that whoever's making those decisions right now is not doing a very good job. So I just think he needs someone. Do I think it's possible for a coach to also be a gm? Yeah. But I think Mark, in the portal, I think they misunderstood how much people were worth. I don't think they did a good job of valuing players. And we obviously have talked about the recruiting issue. So I do think he needs a gm.
Matt Jones
There was kind of a guy that when Cal was here, kind of acting in that role, and it seemed like I thought he did a good job.
Ryan Lemond
The thing about Cal is most of his recruits were coming from high school and he already showed he could do that. Although he too didn't necessarily always make the greatest decisions on those. But I. I like Mark, but I think Mark needs help on this. I think it's clear. Why? Why is it. How is it not clear? You know what I mean? I mean, he. We saw it. We overpaid for guys.
Matt Jones
Yeah. In today's world, you think he. With the way he looks at analytics, he really understands the value.
Ryan Lemond
I think he doesn't like to give up control. You can hear it by what he says. Well, we're looking for the right guy. You can pick the wrong guy. You can sit and look for the right guy for a year. At some point you just got to pick somebo. Right. Like he doesn't want to give up control. And I get that. I don't like to give up control. But if you're not doing a job well, you got to give up control.
Matt Jones
That's right.
Ryan Lemond
You know, so. 859280. 2287. Cornbread hemp. Ryan.
Matt Jones
Tell me about it.
Ryan Lemond
We're going to be there Friday.
Matt Jones
We are going to be there Friday.
Ryan Lemond
And be Friday there for remote. Now, let me tell you, this is their store in Louisville. And if you've never been, it's a cool place. They have a new grand opening. Cornbread Hemp is available at Total Wine. It's available in other places, but we're going to be there. What's the address?
Shannon
I believe it's 42 or no. 4612 Chef Avenue.
Ryan Lemond
4612 Chef Avenue. They're going to have a buy one, get one free while we're there.
Matt Jones
Oh, they are.
Ryan Lemond
Is that right, Shannon? Before I say that, I need to.
Shannon
Look up and confirm that I have not heard that.
Ryan Lemond
I'll. I'll check during the break, but I think they are. But Cornbread hemp on Friday we're in Louisville. We don't get to go to Louisville a lot. So please come out. Yes. Buy one, get one free in the facility on Friday only.
Matt Jones
Nice.
Ryan Lemond
And I think that also includes those drinks.
Matt Jones
All it does the gun.
Ryan Lemond
That might not be wrong. Right.
Matt Jones
You know what?
Shannon
Come out and find out for yourself.
Ryan Lemond
But you can come out and find for yourself.
Matt Jones
Be surprised when you walk in the door.
Ryan Lemond
There'll be a lot of stuff. You can buy one, get one free, maybe even the drink.
Shannon
Anything could happen.
Ryan Lemond
Anything can happen at Cornbread Hemp Friday on Shelf Avenue. We'll take a break. Be right back. KSR. Hey, everyone, it's Ed Helms.
Matt Jones
And I'm Kal Penn. And we are the hosts of Earsay, the Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club.
Ryan Lemond
This week on the podcast, I am talking to film and TV critic, radio and podcast host and Harry Potter super fan Rhianna Dillon to discuss Audible's full cast adaptation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. What moments in this audiobook capture the feeling of the magical world best for you or just stood out the most? I always loved reading about the Quidditch matches, and I think the audio really gets it because it just plunges you right into the stands. You have the crowd sounds like all around you. It is surround sound, especially if you're listening in headphones. Listen to Hearsay, the Audible and iHeart audiobook club on the iHeartradio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. The name of the movie is Guyana Tragedy, and it stars Powers Booth. That's the guy. Powers Booth plays Jim Jones. I'm telling you, it's a long movie, but that last 45 minutes, like, I, I saw it when I was like little, like when I was like 10. And I can still remember. I can still picture him. Like, they just, somebody just showed me the movie poster. I could have told you he was wearing that white shirt with it open like that. I can still remember. Ned Beatty plays the congressman. I forgot Randy Quaid was in it. James Earl Jones is in it. I don't remember who he plays in it, though. But I remember the big vat of Kool Aid because that's where the phrase, you know, drink the Kool Aid comes from. Comes from. And like, the video, the visual of, like, him giving it to the kid. Like, I could. I remember it very well. So you can rent it. Apparently, it's not streaming free, but you can.
Matt Jones
I've seen it at some point because I remember when you soon you said Ned Beatty. I remember him being in it.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. 859280, 2287. Couple open lines. Give us a shout. Are you. The playoff is tomorrow. You excited about it?
Matt Jones
I am, yeah. I've enjoyed this. I love the fact that there's the final Four and there's no Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, they got.
Ryan Lemond
Does that make it any worse for you, though? I Mean, it's Ole Miss Indiana, or excuse me, Ole Miss Miami and Indiana Oregon. Not exactly. I enjoy sexy names. I mean, are you. Does that make it any worse for you?
Matt Jones
Makes it better for me. I'm tired of seeing, you know, the same teams over and over and over. It's good to see some, some new blood in the Final Four.
Ryan Lemond
But if the championship game is, let's say Ole Miss Indiana, are you going to be excited about that or would you rather it be Miami Oregon?
Matt Jones
Definitely the star powers with Miami Oregon. So with Indiana Ole Miss, I'm still excited, going to watch.
Shannon
I think Indiana Ole Miss would be better because you got one team with no head coach and the other team about to go undefeated for the first time.
Ryan Lemond
What does it say about Lane Kiffin if Ole Miss wins without.
Matt Jones
That's true.
Shannon
I think that would be a better storyline.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, it would be interesting if they win without him.
Matt Jones
I find myself pulling for him for that same reason. Just to kind of stick it in his crawl that that's my team and they're winning without me. I thought they're gonna fall.
Ryan Lemond
If you're an LSU fan, would you be like, wait a minute, you know.
Matt Jones
Because that's still, say, bro, that's still Lane Kiffin's team right there.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, but that's not fair because, like, you always fight against the idea that that was Patino's team that won the title with Tubby, you his team. So why is this Lane's team?
Matt Jones
I'm saying that probably the LSU people, that's what they're going to say.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, okay. Well, do you think, do you think Lane Kiffin should get. I mean, if they win the title, Lane Kiffin gets a million dollars.
Matt Jones
Does he really?
Ryan Lemond
Yes. His bonus is. He's already gotten $500,000. He gets $250,000 for every playoff win. So he's already gotten 500,000. If they win, he gets a million dollar bonus. He actually gets $2 million if they, if they win the playoff. Even though he will have coached none of the games.
Shannon
You know who he's pulling for, pulling forward.
Ryan Lemond
Well, that's why I'm asking. You think he's pulling for mercy?
Matt Jones
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Well, but I, I think it's kind of a stain on his legacy, though, if they win without him, especially if he never wins. Let's assume he never wins a title and the only time a team of his ever won was when he wasn't coaching, when he left them.
Shannon
So would he not get a ring in that situation?
Ryan Lemond
That's a great question. Would you give him a ring?
Shannon
I think you.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, they give players rings. Would you give him a ring?
Shannon
God, that's a great.
Ryan Lemond
That's a great question. If you're Ole Miss, would you give Lane Kiffin.
Shannon
They didn't even want him. They kicked him out the door. They said, we don't want you to.
Matt Jones
Want you to coach our team in the playoffs. Get out.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, that's a great question. And if he had a ring, would even wear it. Yeah.
Matt Jones
What do you do with it? You got to put it in a.
Shannon
This is only one. I think he would.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. That's a. That's. That's a. That's a really. Okay. You know, half the coaches. Half the coaches decided to come back and coach this game, but a couple of them are already at lsu.
Matt Jones
They took off with him. Yep.
Ryan Lemond
How's that happen?
Matt Jones
I love this guy that's taking over the program. He seems to be, like, a good temperament. He understands what he's walked into, and he's now.
Ryan Lemond
But if half the coaches are staying, how you going to leave? Well, didn't Charlie Weiss Jr. Stay in. Yes, I think the running back coach is staying, but then, like, the tight end coach and maybe the offensive line coach left.
Matt Jones
Already left.
Ryan Lemond
But they. They. But they coached the last game but are not coaching this one. So they stayed for half of the playoffs, but now they're not.
Matt Jones
Just a weird situation. Man, that's just a weird situation.
Ryan Lemond
It really is weird. Who's up next? Shannon.
Shannon
Let's go to Derek.
Ryan Lemond
Derek. Go ahead, Derek.
Caller
Yes. First time. Long time. My question is, and I hate to say this, I mean, this hurts to say, but how bad does it have to get for Pope not to be there next year?
Ryan Lemond
I don't think there's any scenario. Absent something off the court, which I don't think would happen. I don't think there's any scenario in which he would not be back next year. Honestly, I think they could lose every game for the rest of the year, and he'd probably still be back. Would you agree with that? I agree with that. I just. I don't see it happening.
Caller
Mm. Yeah. I mean, it pains for me to say it. I mean, he's a legend, you know? Love him here, but it just seems like off the court, on the court, it's. Something's amiss, you know?
Ryan Lemond
But the season's not over, too, I think. I mean, I think it's important to remember. I mean, he has one full season. We made the sweet 16, and I also would ignore. And then, you know, this season, there's still a lot to go and it is a manageable schedule. I mean, when the season is over. Let's think about it like this, sir. When the season's over and we rank what were the hardest games Kentucky played, there's a good chance we've played like five of the seven hardest games we'll play. We've already played.
Matt Jones
Yeah. The way the SEC is this year.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, we've already played Gonzaga, Michigan State, Louisville at Louisville, at Alabama, at Alabama. I think there's a decent chance you could argue at the end of the year, you throw in maybe at Tennessee, at Arkansas, at Tennessee and that's it. Florida's not been great so far.
Matt Jones
No.
Ryan Lemond
So, you know, I appreciate the call. I think you could argue there's still a lot of winnable games ahead if we're, if we play well.
Matt Jones
Sounds like the caller doesn't want him back next year. Are you surprised the fans have turned so fast on Pope?
Ryan Lemond
A little bit. Some of that's just society today that, like, we do it. But I, but I'm, I think a lot of that stems from people just don't kind of get him, you know. It's a good question, though. I'm a little surprised. We'll be right back.
Matt Jones
T.J. smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make him pay.
Shannon
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Ryan Lemond
Welcome back. Techy Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Got folks in here for lunch. Come on out and say hello. Dance. Well, you don't have to dance. You can just come to. You can just come to the show. Got my guys from Casey. How's the food? Casey county doing good. They. One of the guys here from Casey county, he told me when he was a youngster, he got taken to the fighting.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
And I said, but he said it like, well, that's the kind of thing I did when I was young. So I can. Casey county, you grow out of the cockfighting. Like when you're young. That's when you go statute limitations.
Matt Jones
Okay. With him.
Ryan Lemond
Now he was. It's not his fault.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
They just, they got another group down there. They just keep getting the fighters for whatever reason.
Matt Jones
Casey county seems to be the hotbed for what's going on down there.
Ryan Lemond
Mario, would you. Do you. Do you know what fighting is? Roosters go hit going at each other big. In Kentucky, you never been. I have to take you. So actually, I've never Been.
Matt Jones
I've never been either.
Ryan Lemond
Would you. If somebody said, ryan, I'm going to take you to a cockfight and you won't get in trouble, would you want to see it?
Matt Jones
There's a part of me that would like to go to one of these arenas, these so called arenas they've got around.
Ryan Lemond
These arenas exist and no one knows. Well, they do know. That's the thing is people know.
Shannon
Are we saying that loosely? Like we call Arena, Davis Arena.
Ryan Lemond
Let's even take Davis Arena. I mean we have. But we can hold 500 people in there. A 500 seat cock fight is a lot of cockfighting where they sell concessions and. Yeah.
Shannon
Can we not talk about fighting on Wednesday?
Ryan Lemond
I would not go. I would not go because I think it's like bad for the birds.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
But I would be interested, if you like in just the environment.
Matt Jones
Me too.
Ryan Lemond
And just like who is there? You know what I mean? Because I'm sure it's a cast of characters. I mean I'm sure it's as, as my mom would say. I'm sure you're amongst them, as they would say, when you're, when you're there. And like I would be interested in that. That would be fun.
Matt Jones
Like you have to sign a non disclosure agreement.
Ryan Lemond
That's good because you have to sign something. Yeah. Well, first of all, you can't enforce illegal contracts. It's an elite. Yeah. You don't. Contracts for illegal activities don't. Yeah.
Shannon
Proof that you're there now it's your name on a piece of paper.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. You wouldn't want to sign anything. That's right.
Caller
No.
Ryan Lemond
No, that's exactly right. 859-280-2287. Little story to watch before we go the phones. Washington got a quarterback. They signed a quarterback four days ago to come play. Yesterday he announced he was entering the portal and going to lsu. But he's apparently already. Well, or going to visit lsu. Apparently he's already signed the contract and Washington reporters are saying they're going to enforce it. This was coming. It's just a question of when it was coming. Some kid signed something like, you know, because people say, how do you get these kids? Well, you sign a contract, what do you think will happen if they try to enforce the kid to his contract?
Matt Jones
That's a question for you, Mr. Law Dog. What's going to happen there?
Ryan Lemond
So under the law you can't force people to play. So let's just use me and you, all right. I own a football team. You sign a contract to Play for me. I cannot make you play.
Matt Jones
Right.
Ryan Lemond
So that's one of the rules of American law. You can't make somebody like work. But I can, if enforcing the contract maybe get you to give me damages for something I've lost economically or I can keep you from going somewhere else. I can't force you on the field. Yeah, but I could maybe get money from you or I maybe could, I certainly could keep you from playing somewhere else. So that's. That, that is plausible.
Matt Jones
It makes sense because you know in the real estate world you get under contract and the seller, the buyer wants to back out. You can't force them to buy a house. They don't want to.
Ryan Lemond
You cannot.
Matt Jones
But that's why they put down earnest money so the seller could get that earnest money from the buyer.
Ryan Lemond
And this is the same thing. You could. I don't know what the contract says, but you could have damage provisions that even in theory, although I think this would be hard to enforce in theory could make the player pay the school something. Now I think that's unlikely, but it's plausible.
Matt Jones
How can they keep him from playing at LSU then?
Ryan Lemond
Because you, I mean it's. When I sign a contract with iHeart, if I Heart's contract exists and I don't have an. And I have. There are non compete clauses.
Matt Jones
Right.
Ryan Lemond
That would say, you know, it can be various amounts of time, but it might say that for six months if I leave, I cannot go work somewhere else. And that's. And you could, you could. I'm sure these football contracts have something like that.
Matt Jones
Is that when I didn't realize that. Do you think they have a non compete clause in these football.
Ryan Lemond
I think almost certainly. I mean why have the contracts if you don't have that?
Matt Jones
If they didn't, they sure are going to be after this incident.
Ryan Lemond
I would think almost certainly they have some form of a non compete in it during the.
Matt Jones
So that would, that could hold up and it could prevent him from playing anywhere.
Ryan Lemond
They've never been tested, but I would assume, I don't see any reason off the top of my head. Legally those would not be enforceable. I mean I can't, I can't imagine a reason a court would say they're not enforced.
Matt Jones
See, I've always heard non competes, you can beat those.
Ryan Lemond
Some states have rules against them. The Biden administration tried to limit them and then the Trump administration pulled that. So the Biden administration was going to limit non competes to I want to say three months, two months, something like that. And then the Trump administration pulled it. But even with all that, there are still ways that you can even force yourself to do it. The non competes I'm against is I fire you and then for six months you can't go work somewhere else. I think that's BS Ridiculous. I think that's bs.
Matt Jones
Yep.
Ryan Lemond
But if you voluntarily choose to leave, then that's a different situation. So I think, I think the Biden administration's thing was to. If you fire somebody, you cannot enforce a non compete. But when you voluntarily leave, yes, you can enforce a non compete.
Matt Jones
See I got another question. So what the no non compete standard is like three months or six months? Well, the football season is still eight months away. Could he still go to LSU and just not participate in any football activities but be ready by August if he volunteer?
Ryan Lemond
If he voluntarily says I'm going to play football for la, for Washington, for from September to December, I am almost certain a court would say you can't go play at LSU from September to December.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
If the school wants to push it. So. And now there are a couple states where non competes are banned, which is interesting.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Because those schools might be at a disadvantage.
Matt Jones
But Washington's not one of those states.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know. I don't think so, but I don't know for sure. Who's next?
Shannon
George.
Ryan Lemond
George. Go ahead, George.
Caller
Hey Matt, what's going on?
Ryan Lemond
What's up?
Caller
Big, big fan of the show. Real excited about Matt Stein. A little bit, a little bit disenchanted with Mr. Pope, hoping things will turn around. But I had, I had a little bit of information for you. Listen to your last episode of COVID Zero. You brought up Shaky's pizza. You realize you, you, you ate it. The first original Kentucky Shaky's pizza.
Ryan Lemond
Where was that?
Caller
Bonnie and Clyde's.
Ryan Lemond
Oh really? Huh?
Caller
Yes, sir. Yes, sir. They opened, they opened up in 69. 70, 71. Used to go, go there when I was in high school.
Ryan Lemond
Well, there you go. Well, thank you. That's an interesting piece of information. I appreciate it. That came from COVID Zero. I won't give all the context of it but you can listen on the episode. But that, thank you. That was an interesting fact. Who's next?
Shannon
Tom.
Ryan Lemond
Tom. Go ahead, Tom.
Caller
Oh, thank you. I have to take my call but the question I have is why does Mark Pope have a call in show when you can't talk to him?
Ryan Lemond
Well, I, I think that's a completely fair question. I appreciate the call. I mean the fact that they don't take calls on the call in show.
Matt Jones
They take text now. Got a text line. You can text in questions.
Shannon
The text in show now.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, then. Then it's the Mark Pope text in show now. You should take calls.
Matt Jones
It's not a good look. And you have a former player on for half the show.
Ryan Lemond
The former player stuff, Come on. I mean, I give Tom credit. I actually thought the text he read last week or Monday were good. I thought he read texts that were fair questions. But you should. You know, when politicians stop doing town halls, that's a bad sign. When coaches stop taking calls, that's a bad sign. I just. When you are afraid or unwilling to face your constituency, as they would say, you know, brother, where art thou? Then that's not good.
Matt Jones
We said Pope is not just a leader of these young men. He's one of the leaders of our fan base. We need to hear from him. We need to. We have legit questions. We need him to kind of help us get off the. Get off. Off the cliff a little bit.
Ryan Lemond
The. The guy in a movie is free on Tubi, so I'm going to. I'm going to watch it. I haven't seen it in 20 years plus, but if it's on Tubi and it's free, then I'm gonna. I'm gonna watch it. It's long, I think.
Matt Jones
Like, I. I was in high school. I can kind of remember when that was even happen.
Ryan Lemond
You want to watch it?
Matt Jones
I'll watch it again. I know I've seen it at some point.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Matt Jones
Maybe that'll be a little homework assignment.
Ryan Lemond
Movie night.
Matt Jones
All right.
Ryan Lemond
I'll come to your house.
Matt Jones
Come on. We'll watch the Jim Jones big blueberry bed from.
Ryan Lemond
Well, it's good. The only place I can get at your house. New Year, same house. And that's your problem. If the word remodel makes you think. Stress, surprises, and contractors who vanish, call Estate Renovations. They do it differently. You get a real designer, Ryan, who helps pick everything out, and a project manner manager who keeps the thing moving, whether it's small, updates to your kitchen, your basement, whatever. State Renovations has a big contest coming soon with kfs. Ksr.
Matt Jones
Oh, really?
Ryan Lemond
But if you mention KSR now. Half off your design agreement.
Matt Jones
That's a good call.
Ryan Lemond
Half off staterenos.com KSR make sure you mention KSR. Half off your design agreement at Estate Renovations. We'll take a break. Be right back here at KS Bars, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Shannon
Hey, everyone, it's Ed Helms, and I'm.

Every time we bring up fighting, the amount of texts I get is unbelievable. It really is. And fascinating facts. One person writes, matt, I'm not going to say which county because I don't want to get him in trouble, but I went to a cockfight once and the local sheriff was outside directing traffic.
Matt Jones
I don't doubt that story. I don't doubt it.
Ryan Lemond
I can see that, though, can't you?
Matt Jones
Yes. And it's. It's a world in our state that I really didn't realize was so large until they started busting. Some of these facilities were like, what, it was 200 people there.
Ryan Lemond
One person writes, matt, in Harrison county, at the biggest cemetery, there's a big tombstone that has a cock fighting reference on it that everyone in the county knows.
Matt Jones
I want another reference now.
Ryan Lemond
Well, it's interesting that this guy brings this up. So yesterday, before I walked Shannon to Moondog. Yeah, I walked in. I don't know what made me do this, but, you know, on Bardstown Road, there are those two cemeteries, right? There's the cemetery. Okay, there's a cemetery off Baxter, but there's two off Bardstown Road. You know, there's a huge one that's Called, like, Cave Run or something.
Shannon
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
And then there's a smaller one, I think, called Eastern Cemetery. So I went walking for just a little bit in Eastern Cemetery. The newest headstone I saw was 1973.
Matt Jones
That was the newest one.
Ryan Lemond
That was the newest. There were headstones back there that went to, like, the 1840s and 1850s.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Ryan Lemond
And it was a little. I don't know. Maybe it was a little creepy, but it was also, like. It was kind of powerful to walk around and see these two. I mean, like. Like, I just randomly. This is what I did. I just randomly saw a headstone. I was like, I'm just gonna go look at that person. Just randomly pick one.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
And I went. And it was. I'll even tell you the person's name, because I actually. I actually Googled their name and found their obituary.
Matt Jones
I'm fascinated. Now. What's the story?
Ryan Lemond
Guy's name was John Christman. He was a retired gardener of Jefferson Town who died in Danville. He was born in 18. I think it said 1828.
Shannon
Wow.
Ryan Lemond
1828. So he was born almost 200 years ago.
Matt Jones
Crazy.
Ryan Lemond
And this is a random person.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
And there's his headstone. The headstone was from, like, 1912. Still sitting there. You can still read it now. Part of it was kind of sad to me. Not just his, but in general. Like, it's. They're not in very good shape. A lot of them. It's not taken care of. Right. There was a really sad one of a tombstone of a big marker that clearly someone had put a lot of money into. And it had a statue of a man and a woman that was supposed to represent the husband and the wife. And this is from, like, the 1920s. And I was thinking about how much that had to cost at the time.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
And the heads of both of them had fallen off and were just laying on the ground. And I thought, you know, these people put this up a hundred years ago, thinking it would be, like, a lasting memory of all time of their family. And now they're laying on the ground. But I don't know what made me do it. I just looked that person up. But it was crazy that that cemetery, Shannon, is just in the middle of Louisville, and it's like headstones going back 200 years. There are. There are cemeteries in New York that have headstones going back 450 years. Like, if you ever fly into LaGuardia, you fly over these huge cemeteries, if you've ever seen it. And a lot of those go back to when People first came to America.
Shannon
So I guess once you run out of room. You said like the newest one was 1973. They just go out of business at that point. Or how does that work?
Ryan Lemond
That's a great question. I want. I'm glad you said that. I wondered because someone knows the answer to this. It's full. That cemetery. There's no more space. And it looked like to me they had sold every inch of this. But there was also. Shannon. No one there. Like there was no one working. So it's full. I don't think they could take another person in there. But then what happens?
Matt Jones
Right?
Shannon
You're just out of business.
Ryan Lemond
I would guess who has the incentive.
Matt Jones
To keep the place, maintain it.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Mow the grass. We eat around all those tombstones. Or what does the city zombies pay people to do that?
Ryan Lemond
We've. I don't remember. We've talked about it before and I can't remember someone told us. But anyway, it was interesting. Shannon, because that place is full. They could not take another person. Clearly.
Shannon
Yep.
Ryan Lemond
But it still exists. Right there.
Shannon
Yeah. Yeah. You can't just let it be over.
Ryan Lemond
And I guess you can't. I mean.
Shannon
But how do you take care of that?
Ryan Lemond
I don't know. But you would think does a business has no incentive to keep it up. They've already sold all their inventory. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Probably falls on the city's shoulders. I would think Parks and Rec or something. Some department.
Ryan Lemond
And it was open and it. I got done right before 6 o' clock and I could see they closed the gate behind you.
Matt Jones
I know a lot of people go to the Lexington Cemetery because it's so beautiful. The flowers and the trees and bloom.
Ryan Lemond
Well, this one wasn't. I mean, it wasn't. Like. It's not broken down. It's not awful, but it's not beautiful. Like there's not. It's not. They mow the grass. You can tell. But that's about it.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
So anyway. Who's next?
Matt Jones
About Will.
Ryan Lemond
Will. Go ahead. Will.
Caller
For you.
Ryan Lemond
About Eddie Grand. Yes.
Caller
Is he still involved in Kentucky football or did he get fired along with Stu?
Ryan Lemond
I think he is technically still. I think he's technically still on the payroll. I don't think. I don't know that he's doing anything. But I also don't know that he's not, if that makes sense. So I. No one else that worked for Stoops, I think all those people were gone. But Eddie Grand, I believe is technically still on the payroll. So I don't know. I kind of don't think he's doing anything. But I also don't know because he technically worked for the athletic department, not for the football people.
Caller
Yep, he's still on the UK Athletics page.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Caller
So I was just interested.
Ryan Lemond
So. Yeah, I appreciate the call. I think he is technically an athlete. Eddie Grant, an athletics department employee.
Matt Jones
Those contracts are what, July 1? They are kind of renew every year in the July 1, I think it is. So maybe he's under contract until then.
Ryan Lemond
Nick Rouse just sent me something. Eastern Cemetery had a huge scandal in its history. They reburied 48,000 bodies.
Shannon
That's a lot.
Matt Jones
48,000.
Ryan Lemond
There's a documentary about it called Facing East.
Shannon
Did we talk about something similar to this?
Ryan Lemond
Not that long ago we talked about something like this.
Shannon
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
And it may have even been Eastern Cemetery. Yeah. But I can't remember what the details were. It's the nation's most overcrowded cemetery, according to reports. I can see why.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon
When you walk around, you can see Eastern Cemetery. Here's somebody calling in right now.
Ryan Lemond
Okay, quickly. Go ahead.
Shannon
All right, Robert. Go ahead, Robert.
Caller
You all forgot. I don't know if y' all forgot about this, but the cemetery you're talking about is the one with the reused graves that I used to get paid to cut the grass.
Ryan Lemond
Yes, that's what it was. You told us that.
Caller
Right, right, right.
Ryan Lemond
And who pays you?
Caller
The company. The. The company was called Eastern Cemeteries and Crematorium. That's what it said on the paycheck. I cut their cemetery on 7th Street Road. They owned the one on Greenwood. Now, Eastern. The. They used up all the money. They started reusing the grave of the old graves and they went out of business. They all went to jail. Or that. It was on the front page of The Courier Journal, 1989.
Ryan Lemond
Yep, you're right. Appreciate that. That's. Now I do vaguely remember that conversation. All right, on that note, pregame show today at 4:30 Eastern. We will be here at the bar. Come on out and see us before you go to the Kentucky Missouri game. Thank you all very much for coming here today. We'll see you later. This has been Kentuck Radio.
