Two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. Hour number two, Tyee Sports Radio, 859-280-2287 text machine 772-7744. We are here at the KS Bar and Grill. It is just open. Where are you from, ma'?
Drew
Am?
Matt Jones
Lexington. Nice to see. Came up from Orlando. All right. Well, good. Well, good to see you. Came from the cold to Lexington in the summer. In the. In February. Yeah. Well, interesting. It's okay. 859-280-2287. What were you doing there during the break?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I got some real estate stuff going on. Just trying to take care of that.
Matt Jones
Oh, that good.
Drew
Is the market.
Matt Jones
Market moving?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Market's moving. A good time to buy. Go to Stockton Mortgage Cameos.
Drew
Selling houses.
Matt Jones
You're kind of a hustler, aren't you?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I do want to say this. I have a moment. If you would have listened to the True Crime radio show when you left KS Bar last night, you would have been up to date on the on 94.5. On 94.5, I bet the listeners went up.
Matt Jones
I bet. I bet the listeners for the Mix 94.5True Crime Show. What time does it come on?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
10 o'. Clock. It was perfect. We were leaving the restaurant right at 10 o' clock last night. Got something all the way home. Got to take.
Matt Jones
So what's, what's the update?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Well, they updated us on the. The airport. The El Paso airport. We knew. I knew about the party balloon.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
But the Nancy Guthrie thing, they found two black gloves like a mile and a half from the house and they think maybe they might be associated with the crime.
Matt Jones
Okay, so what does that do for me?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Well, they're just giving you an update. They're asking for all the neighbors from like January on, January 11th on or something to look at the ring cameras if they see anything.
Matt Jones
I can't believe they haven't caught this guy. Yeah, I mean it feels like they.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Have or is it a girl?
Matt Jones
Okay. I can't believe they've caught this person. I really can't. I mean we have everyone looking for them. You would think like they'd have them and they don't. So kind of a surprise they. 592-802-2287 did you like the Drew the documentary short that came out? CBS has been doing a documentary about UK basketball this year. They've had all access all year and it's going to come out the day between the final four and the national championship. So that Sunday afternoon is when it will come out. Video looked cool.
Drew
Didn't enjoyed the clips. Hope that whiteboards. Okay. Yeah, whiteboard.
Matt Jones
Show Mark Pope punching the whiteboard which he said he. I think he hurt his wrist on or whatever. Right. Yeah.
Drew
Big knock there. I would, I would tell maybe next time find a target behind the whiteboard and punch through it. But still like seeing that fire, I'm really going to enjoy the most the conversations. It looks like, you know, the guys, their apartments are driving around and they're talking through the beginning of the year and how it felt on their end. I'll admit though, it's not lost on me. The only other time we did this was the nit year. So I don't. It's answering some questions from early in the season if we believe in that jinx. But overall I'm excited to watch it.
Matt Jones
However, I think they probably decided to do this Ryan because they thought we were going to be really, really good and then we weren't. So do you think it will be more interesting to see us go through the ups and downs or would you like, like do you think it actually, I mean, you know, who were they in the locker room for the Louisville game.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
See that? As a fan, I want to see this behind the scenes stuff. What happened at Louisville? What's been happening behind the scenes? Do they really like each other? Do they hang out with each other? I'm hoping they get into some of that. And I think one of the sound bites from Ortega in the. In the trailer, he says something like people saying, we're fighting each other. You know, what are they talking about?
Drew
Yeah, he's like, they said I fought somebody in the locker room. You know, he's acting like, what. But that was said quite a bit.
Matt Jones
Do we ever. Do we ever have a definitive answer as to what happened in that locker room?
Drew
I wonder if who has creative control of this? Like, if UK can't say. I'm sure UK does to agree to it. But it'd be nice if someone that didn't care how it looked, the producers was like, this is exactly what happened right here. And whatever it is, we'll. We'll take it from there.
Matt Jones
Yeah. You know. Well, they did one of these before, besides the nit year. So we did it the nit year. Then they did it. Oscar's second year. Do you remember that? Like, they did Oscar second year, and when they lost, when they. They just didn't think it was interesting enough, so they threw it away.
Drew
They were sending a crew to Oscar's family and didn't even get there before Kentucky was out of the tournament.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's right. So they. No. Or was it. So it was Oscar's first year. It was the year we lost St. Peter.
Caller
Yeah.
Drew
Because they were sending a crew all the way to follow his mom and, like, how she's able to watch it.
Matt Jones
And they didn't even.
Drew
I don't even think they got boots on.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they interviewed. They interviewed me six times through the course of that year. And they were doing it about Oscar's year. We lost the same. And then they lost the St. Peter's.
Drew
And they're like, well, I think Tata might have had a sick relative that they went out and interviewed too.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So that was probably just lost money. Shannon, do you think it's a jinx to do a thing like this?
SpinQuest Advertiser
No.
Shannon
But I do wonder, though, how much it did have an effect on, like. And somebody brought this up in the pre show, like some of the slow starts that we've seen, you know, with cameras up in your face constantly before the game. I wonder if that had any effect on how they played.
Drew
Especially the guys not used to any of this, you know. Some of those guys lived it last year. But if you're brand new to the Kentucky basketball experience and there's a camera crew in the locker room, I could see how that would impact you a little bit. Like a Cam Williams who came from Tulane, and suddenly you have CBS All Access everywhere.
Matt Jones
I mean, maybe, but I don't know how that would affect the. On court when the game starts. I mean, the cameras are on you when the game starts to say, the.
Shannon
Lead up show ritual, you know, like some of these guys like to be in their zone, but yet you got cameras in your face the entire baby.
Drew
And Caleb Williams even said himself it took a while to get comfortable going up a level. I could see why cameras and everyone around you in your face could play a role into maybe getting settled in.
Matt Jones
The only thing I can compare it to, Shannon, was when we had those cameras around.
Shannon
Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
And it was weird for like a day. But then you get. You. Then you almost kind of forget.
Shannon
But you would tell people, hey, act naturally. But then people just. They can't because you got a camera in your face.
Matt Jones
It's hard. At least for me. I got over that pretty quick. I was like that at first. But you kind of get over it, in my opinion, pretty quick because, like, you forget they're there.
Shannon
But I'm watching everybody else, obviously, just like, you know, acting differently than there were people that.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you definitely could see. There were people who turned on an act when the camera was on.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
So you think you'd be able to tell, is, is Pope acting or is he really mad?
Matt Jones
Hope's not acting.
Drew
Hope wouldn't be acting.
Matt Jones
Pope wouldn't be acting. I think Pope would. It'll be interesting to see. I would love to see if we can actually learn a little bit about what happened.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Absolutely.
Matt Jones
In some of these things.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yes.
Matt Jones
But I also kind of think maybe.
Drew
We won't also want to finish strong so we can enjoy it. I mean, if we fizzle out and have a bad tournament loss, it obviously won't be nearly as exciting to follow the journey I really want to finish this year.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
One player they followed for once was a Brandon Boston they were following.
Drew
Yeah, that was his own thing, though.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Would that ever come out?
Drew
No, it could have on his personal. That was like a him and his buddy situation.
Matt Jones
The Big 12 is going to play their Big 12 tournament on a glass floor. Remember the glass floor that we had for. For Big Blue Madness? They're going to do that for the Big 12 tournament. So to make it more exciting, they're going to have the. So they can put the graphics of the teams, and they're going to make it a whole thing. I like this a lot. Assuming nobody gets hurt. I like it a lot because the conference tournaments for major conferences, people can kind of think they don't mean anything. They mean something to me. But for a lot of people, I think it's a cool thing to do and it'll make me maybe a little more likely to watch it. Do you like the Big 12 glass floor?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I guess there's no risk involved or they wouldn't do it. But it seems like playing on a glass floor, you're taking a risk with an ankle or a knee or something, slipping and falling.
Matt Jones
I guess as long as they tell me it's safe, which I would think they would not do it if it wasn't safe.
Shannon
What they're telling me is that their conference tournament is boring, so we got to figure out a gimmick to make people watch.
Matt Jones
I do think, though, conference tournaments can be boring on, you know, I mean, if Duke plays Carolina, we care about the Kentucky games, but, I mean, does anyone get excited about the Big 12 Conference tournament? And the thing is, the Big 12 is probably the best conference this year, Scott. Kansas got Arizona, Texas Tech, Iowa State. I can see why you would say, okay, we're boring.
Shannon
We need a glass floor. That's what they're saying. We're boring.
Matt Jones
Maybe, but it let's. But let's say they do. I mean, like, maybe you're saying that, but then you're trying to remedy it, right?
Drew
I'm excited to see it. I have two concerns. One is I want to hear a player talk about not just injuries, like, are there dead spots? Like, you're just dribbling on something completely different than hardwood that you've dribbled your whole life. I wonder as a player, if it just feels different, affects the actual, like, game flow. And then my biggest concern, and I know we're heading this way, they're gonna put so many logos on that thing for basketball game. I mean, they're gonna sell every spot on that they can.
Matt Jones
That's a good point. Yeah, I hadn't thought about that.
Drew
But I still afford it. I think it's better off for stuff like Madness, where you can do, like a shooting contest where spots pop up and flames and all the graphics, and you can't really do that in a live game.
Matt Jones
Well, we'll see. I. I like the idea of trying to make something cool in a com, and I think a conference tournament is an Interesting way to start it. It's a major one because like I said, chances are very low that somebody's gonna be playing to go to the tournament. Maybe, but. But it's unlikely.
Drew
Someone at Rupp told me when they were installing the one for Madness, they dropped one of the panels and broke it. And that did not go over well with the LED people. Like they have extras like, hey, let's, let's be careful with our glass panels.
Matt Jones
Be interesting to see what it looks like. Who's next, Shannon?
Shannon
Bob and Jamestown.
Matt Jones
Bob and Jamestown, 859-280-2287.
Caller
Go ahead, Matt. Tomorrow night, 9 o', clock, ESPN is going to showcase the last unbeaten team that hadn't played anybody. My alma mater, Miami University Ohio at Millette Hall. 9:00 clock tomorrow night.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I saw that. I'm, I'm thinking about next Friday night going to the Miami of Ohio game if they are still undefeated. So we'll see what happens. But yeah, they are on ESPN tomorrow, tomorrow night. So they're being undefeated at. The world will get to see them.
Caller
But then the following week they go to UMass for probably their toughest game.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller
UMass.
Matt Jones
Yeah. All right, well. Well, we'll see. I didn't know that was your alma mater, but go. What is it? Redhawks. Red Hawks. Yeah.
Drew
Appreciate the comment, coach by Frank Martin. Frank Martin stands in their way of an undefeated season. I didn't know.
Matt Jones
Breaking news, Shannon. One in. The newest guest on the Andy Bashir podcast is Rick Patino. And in his interview, Rick Patino says for the first time that he knows he should have been fired at U.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Of L. He admits that.
Matt Jones
Admits he should have been fired at.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
U of L for so many years. He was like, I, you know, I knew nothing. It was under, not under my, I didn't.
Matt Jones
I don't think he says he knew something, but he's basically is, I think taking responsibility of. It was under my watch.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Is he growing up right in front of our.
Drew
Better late than never.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Well, I mean, you might as well do it at some point, right?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah.
Drew
Question is, will you listen? You're gonna tune in?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'll listen. I think it's, it's very short. It looks like it's like 33 minutes. I feel like I can get through that.
Drew
Okay.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew
In that case, I might listen. I gotta drive behind on my indie podcast.
Matt Jones
We gotta drive to Radcliffe tomorrow. I'll, I'll listen to it. Apparently talks a lot about his time at Kentucky. Tells Richie Farmer stories.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Oh, good. That kind of stuff. I love when he talks like that, you know, back in the day.
Matt Jones
So, yeah, I think I will. I think I would listen to it.
Drew
Did you see the picture he tweeted last night of all his guys at dinner in New York?
Matt Jones
Who? Ripatino.
Drew
Does this guy not look like he cloned John Caliperi and made him sit by him?
Matt Jones
Oh, my goodness. That does look like John Caliper. Let me see that.
Drew
He's like, I miss being near Cal. I have to have a carbon copy of Cal's with me.
Matt Jones
Okay, so this is under real patino.
Drew
Yeah, it's his account.
Matt Jones
That looks like AI John Cal.
Drew
It's like he ordered a clone of Cal that he wants to just take around.
Matt Jones
Yellow with a scarf.
Drew
Yes. Steve's looking like big money there, but.
Matt Jones
The cow clones really does look like.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
A close up right there. It looks just like him, man.
Matt Jones
No, that is Teemu Cal that people say people look like somebody. That really does.
Drew
And he made him sit by him.
Matt Jones
Teemu cow. Who's next?
Shannon
Let's go to Josh.
Matt Jones
Josh. Go ahead, Josh.
Caller
Hey, I just want to say three things. One, I went to the Arkansas game. That was electric. That was super fun.
Matt Jones
Oh, you were. You were in. You were in Fayetteville. You were in Fayetteville. I was. Oh, that's awesome.
Caller
Well, we traveled down there.
Matt Jones
That had to be great.
Caller
Yeah, it was.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller
About one. About 50 bucks from an Arkansas fan, but yeah. And then Tennessee sucks. Number two. And then number three. I don't know if you've seen this, but in the Oklahoma game, Brandon Garrison got pushed down going for rebound. When he got up, he called the Oklahoma person a female dog, basically.
Matt Jones
But that doesn't shock me that Garrison may have done that. Well, yeah. Being at that Arkansas, I appreciate the call. I think I can't think of many games that would have been better to be at you.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah, it'd be. You'd be safe when you go to a road environment like that. But I think that place, talk about Garrison Pope immediately ran on the floor. Like, that's when he, like, immediately ran out there. Kind of calm him down a little bit. Like within a second he was there.
Matt Jones

Matt Jones
Welcome Back Techie Sports Radio. Drew just showed me this. There's a documentary coming out on Netflix about a murder in Louisville. It's called murder in glitter Ball City. What do we know about it?
Drew
Why do they call it 2010 murder? Body of James Carroll was killed in his mansion on fourth Street.
Matt Jones
In his mansion on fourth south fourth Street. So that's old Louisville, Shannon. Right down the road. Yeah, there's some huge houses back there. Some beautiful houses. So he was murdered in one of those.
Drew
Based on a book. A dark room in Glitter Ball City.
Shannon
I've never heard it's called litter. Glitter Ball City.
Matt Jones
Who calls about.
Drew
It's about two ex lovers. First I've heard of it. I thought you all would have that answer.
Matt Jones
But who calls Louisville Glitter Ball City?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Why would never one.
Matt Jones
You ever heard that, Shannon?
Shannon
Never.
Drew
No.
Matt Jones
Why would it be called Glitter Ball City? Or are they saying like his house was Glitter Ball City?
Drew
It's not. It's not making it clear what Glitter Ball City is. I'm trying to figure that out. I've not heard Glitter Ball City in reference to Louisville before.
Matt Jones
Okay, well. But a good Louisville.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Old.
Matt Jones
Old Louisville murder mystery. That's probably good watching.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I'll probably hear him talk about it on the true crime radio show tonight on Mix 94.5.
Matt Jones
Probably. So. James Vanderbeek died from Dawson's Creek. He was. He's all. He was our age.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah. Young, in his 40s.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Colon cancer. He also was in the I don't want your life.
Drew
That's how I know him.
Matt Jones
Mocks Friday nights.
Drew
Varsity blues.
Matt Jones
No Varsity Blues. I don't want your life. I don't think I've ever seen the movie. I just remember that Dawson's Creek was huge. I never watched it, but that whole. What's the song? I don't want to wait to be over that came from. From that one person.
Shannon
No, I know who he is, but I never watched it, you know, seen Varsity Blue.
Matt Jones
I don't think I have. I've seen that clip, but I don't know that I ever actually. Is that the one with the. The whipped cream?
Drew
Yep.
Matt Jones
Okay, then I've seen that.
Drew
Yep, yep, yep.
Matt Jones
Also I do that scene. I do remember.
Shannon
Yeah, I was gonna say that's. If you're gonna remember one, that would be it.
Matt Jones
That's the scene.
Drew
I remember Paul Walker also in that. They've had some young deaths from that cast. But that's a movie I saw many, many times. Wasn't as into Dawson's Creek, but Varsity Blues is a classic.
Matt Jones
Very sad, though, in a reminder. Because he had colon cancer, right? A reminder to get the colonoscopy. Which you just did two weeks ago. Which you just did a couple weeks ago. Because that's really sad. And he was, you know, he was, I think, 45 when he was. When he was diagnosed with it.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I didn't know him. I didn't watch the movie. But it is just sad. In time, a young person dies. Way too young. So I hated to hear that.
Drew
A lot of kids, too.
Matt Jones
UK Baseball starts their season tomorrow at UNC Greensboro. Oddly games not on TV this weekend. I don't know why. So you can listen, though, on WLAP.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Worldwide, Todd Harris will be live streaming game for UK baseball.
Drew
He texted me that, too. He's going to stream it on something.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he's gonna hold up a phone.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
And stream the whole game if you want to watch UK baseball this weekend worldwide.
Matt Jones
His son's in the rotation, right?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yes. Layton will thrive. He pitching.
Matt Jones
So they. Kentucky's ranked preseason top 25. I think I kind of want to get into the year this year. I hope it's not too cold when they start playing the home games. But we have a. Apparently a rotation. We got a dude from Houston who can throw like 141 miles an hour.
Shannon
That would be a record.
Matt Jones
That's what makes it exciting.
Drew
Tyler Bell's back. He's like unanimous, first team all American. He put on some size. He's going to be one of the best players in the country and worldwide.
Matt Jones
Todd Harris, who you've heard us talk about for years, his son is in the rotation latent, he's, I think the Saturday or Sunday starter.
Drew
They use him for the graphic. That's when you know your big deal and they're putting you as the face.
Matt Jones
Do you think this fan base. I feel like this fan base follows baseball quite a bit more. I mean, we have two writers now covering it for a ksr. Are you excited about the season?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I am. I mean, they're coming off the, you know, the first ever trip to the College World Series. They're making the a deep run in the NCAA tournament year after year after year. You have to be excited about, especially when you talked about, like you said, this rotation supposed to be one of the best in the sec, their weekend rotation. So good luck to them.
Matt Jones
They're going to be paying, playing the scrappy stuff that their weakness is they worry if they have enough hitting. So they're going to be doing all the stuff they used to do.
Drew
That's all right. I think they're gonna have a good year. I've really gotten into them the last couple seasons.
Matt Jones
I feel.
Drew
I feel like it's a little early, like it snuck up on everyone and I hate that it's not even on TV this weekend. But once they get a little farther in the year and have these home games in Lexington with some good weather, you'll see out there a lot.
Matt Jones
Easy to me that there's snow on the ground and we're playing baseball in North Carolina.
Drew
I don't feel like that's far enough north.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
High school baseball opens next week in Kentucky.
Matt Jones
Here.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yes. What?
Matt Jones
They're playing high school baseball here next week.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
They open up next week? Yeah.
Matt Jones
My goodness.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I want to. Tyler Bell, and he was a second round draft pick out of high school and he turned it down to go to UK because he said, I bet on my. I'm betting on myself.
Matt Jones
Well, it looks like it's been working out for him. Yeah.
Drew
First home games Tuesday, Morehead.
Matt Jones
So we play here next week.
SpinQuest Legal/Disclosure Voice
Yes.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Wow.
Drew
And then I think maybe a late basketball game that night.
Matt Jones
Maybe. What'd you say, six? I was supposed to be in the 60s Tuesday. Well, perfect timing.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
There we go.
Matt Jones
Perfect timing. Who's up first? Robert or next? Robert. Go ahead, Robert.
iHeartRadio Advertising Voice
Hey.
Caller
Yeah. I think I know why they called it glitter ball city.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Caller
There's a fun fact. Louisville makes like at one time or still does, makes most of the disco mirror. Disco glitter balls. And I'm assuming it has something to do with that. I don't know if it was somebody who owned the company that made them or something.
Matt Jones
I have heard that, but I didn't think it was Louisville. I remember when I was doing my book, hearing that there was a town in Kentucky that made all the glitter balls. I wanted to say it was like. But. But you're saying it's Louisville.
Caller
Well, if I remember right, at one time it was in Louisville. They may have moved to New Albany and moved back to Louisville. But if you look it up by, you know, who makes all the glitter balls, Google that way, I'm sure that'll probably connect the dots.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right. I appreciate the call.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I've never heard that. That's kind of a fun fact. But I've never heard that.
Drew
There's a glitter ball city walking tour in Louisville.
Matt Jones
There's a glitter ball city walking tour. Well, here. The text machine usually has these answers. Somebody will know.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yep.
Matt Jones
Why they call it glitter ball city.
Drew
All right, here we go. I have an answer.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew
From disco balls Wikipedia page. They are mostly made in Louisville at Omega national products.
Matt Jones
So there.
Drew
So we are the. Or not we.
Matt Jones
Louisville is the glitter box even now, huh?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Why have we never heard of this?
Matt Jones
I don't know. Louisville is the world's largest manufacturer of disco balls. There are even more disco balls made in Louisville than in China and Japan, which are second and third.
Drew
Omega claims to have made 90% of all Disco balls.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Drew
And there was a resurgence in disco balls in 2020, so they say you.
Matt Jones
Can'T bring manufacturing to America. Apparently you can, so long as you're making glitter balls.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I didn't know they were still in.
Matt Jones
Made on Baxter Avenue.
Drew
Look at that again.
Shannon
That's right up the street from here.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Shannon
Go get a disco ball and just hang it in the studio.
Matt Jones
Who knew? All right, who's next?
Shannon
All right, that's Steve up next.
Matt Jones
Steve. Go ahead, Steve.
Caller
Hey, guys. Glad y' all are finally getting rid of the snow up there.
Matt Jones
Thank you. About 40 seconds.
Caller
Okay. Yeah. I think the key to Saturday's game is yellow bitch. We got to get a big game out of him with his size. We may even have to go big with all three bigs and at the same time.
Matt Jones
Yeah, there are some. Some teams have had to do that. I think that would really hurt us if we have to do it. But yellow Vic is a dude who could. Who can shoot and also be a big. And that will be. I agree with you. He actually is huge on Saturday.
Caller
All right, guys. Well, good luck, and go cats.
Matt Jones
Thank you. It's gonna be a tough, tough matchup. We're here at KS Bar and grill. We'll take a break. Be right back. Stucky Sports Radio.
iHeartRadio Advertising Voice
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Call tj.
Matt Jones
He'll make him pay.
Shannon
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
I'd never heard of this song, Shannon, until six months ago. And then on Tick Tock, I found a Zach Top cover of it. Yeah, everything that's glitters is not gold. And it's great covers that I like Zach Top a lot. Then I found on Tick Tock. I gotta send this to you, Shannon. I don't know what was happening. They got like every big country music star in the early 80s to sit in a circle and sing together.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Oh, really?
Matt Jones
I haven't seen it. No, I'm serious. It's like Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Ricky Skaggs. It's got George Strait, like, they're all sitting in a circle.
Shannon
Dan Seals there.
Matt Jones
Because Dan Seals is there.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And Dan Seal sings this song and they all sing the chorus with it.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Really?
Matt Jones
And it's kind of awesome.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
It does sound awesome.
Matt Jones
And the. And. And I. I think this song is actually really great. Do you know this song?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Oh, I know the song, but I don't know the story about them.
Matt Jones
I may. Shannon, during the next. I may send you. Maybe you can play it in the next part. The version. It's. It's. It's. It's a lot slower than this version. But they're all just sitting in a circle singing together. I didn't. I don't think that happens now.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
We need to bring that back.
Matt Jones
Country singers just get in a circle. And I think Emmy Lou Harris is sitting there. Like, it's all these big famous people.
Drew
I'm picturing them on the floor or they're in chairs. I'm seeing them all just sitting around on the ground with guitars.
Matt Jones
Yeah, no, they're all sitting in, like, a semicircle with guitars. It's. It's just. It's kind of cool.
Drew
So we need to bring that back.
Matt Jones
859280, 2287. One person writes. Matt, what is Ryan doing for his woman on Valentine's Day?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Well, I told you, I already gave her the most romantic gift I've ever given anyone. On Valentine's Day, I bought her tickets to go see the Houston Rockets play the Indiana Pacers because she likes Reed Shepherd. Kind of hard to top that one. I'm already kind of in for the couple years now.
Matt Jones
So you're not gonna do anything? That's what you're saying we're going to dinner on Saturday.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Saturday night? Yeah. Kentucky plays at three.
Matt Jones
Take place at three.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Postgame show will be. I'll end it like 7:30 or eight. Do you, do you have a reservation?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I do.
Matt Jones
You want to say where do you don't want. You don't want the paparazzi to show up.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Well, it was tough. So we're going to try a new place.
Shannon
You should be eating by yourself. Really.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you should. But we still haven't. Haven't gotten that yet, but go ahead.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Have you been to 310?
Drew
Oh, I love 310. Big 310. 310 fan.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
But it used to be called table 310.
Drew
Yeah. Changed ownership, kind of kept the address. Big 310 fan.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah. Each standing up.
Drew
They recently just like changed their vibe without really telling anyone, which is fine. Still had a great time. But I walked in and just a little different.
Matt Jones
What's 310? I don't know what it is. I don't.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
It's a restaurant. To name the restaurant.
Matt Jones
Where is it?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Over by Cheapside and.
Matt Jones
Okay, so you're going to a new restaurant.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You're gonna wear something fancy?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I'll probably, you know, put on my expensive jeans and a nice little.
Matt Jones
I like when you bring out the expensive jeans.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Well, you know, they're 500 pair of jeans I won at the John Calipari fantasy camp. They only come out for special occasions. The blue Delta jeans.
Matt Jones
I forgot you won those.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I did.
Matt Jones
You won the Caliperi jeans.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
The year before they gave everybody all expense paid trip to Las Vegas. And the year before that was Armani suit. Armani suit.
Matt Jones
And you got a pair of jeans.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I got a pair of jeans.
Drew
Good jeans though, right?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
500R pair of jeans.
Matt Jones
Well, I hope you. I hope you enjoy.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
It's really good in them too.
Matt Jones
Okay, not necessary. Who's up next?
Shannon
Let's go to Joseph.
Matt Jones
Joseph. Go ahead, Joseph.
Caller
Hey, Matt, two things here. What is that going to take? Save the basketball season this year and what does Pope have to do in the off season to get fans on board for next year?
Matt Jones
As far as I think fans are on board next year regardless. I mean I, you know, Kentucky basketball, Kentucky football, the fans sometimes have to be sold on the season. I think Kentucky basketball. Can you think of a. Of a year ever that Kentucky basketball fans haven't been excited going in the year?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
No. Even the 9 and 16 year, we were all jacked up excited.
Matt Jones
I mean let's, let's think about it. What is the last year that Kentucky fans were not excited going into the.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Season.
Drew
I don't think I have one.
Matt Jones
You know, nothing else.
Drew
You talk yourself into it.
Matt Jones
Yeah, exactly. That's exactly right. I think you talk yourself into it. Maybe one of those last year or two of Tubby, maybe, But I still think people get into it. I don't. I don't see any scenario where fans are not excited about next season rallying around the team. You know, maybe if they just completely bomb in the portal and don't get anybody, but if they do that, then they're going to be bringing a lot of these guys back and so people will know the players.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
We talk ourselves into it every offseason, get excited about the upcoming season. I think. I think even like Billy's two years, we were excited going into the season with the roster he had. It just didn't work out. So I think your answer may be right. One of those last two tubby years.
Matt Jones
Let's make a prediction here. There are 13 guys on the team. Three of them can't come back away. Aberdeen, and let's just assume Quaintance is going to the draft. So that leaves 10 players on the team that are scholarship players. I'm going to throw Hawthorne as the 10th. Let's leave Reese Potter out just because we haven't seen him at all. So 10 guys. How many of those 10 guys are playing for Kentucky next year without saying names? Just the number of the 10. We. Of the 10 that could return, how many come back?
Drew
I'll say five.
Matt Jones
Oh, five. Let me. Let me count my head. Who I've got. You've got 1, 2, 3. I'm gonna make them 4, 5. I'm gonna say 6. I'm gonna say 6 of the 10 come back. What about you?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I was gonna go 4, and I was almost getting ready to say 3.
Caller
Wow.
Drew
I was closer to 4 than 6, if that helps. I'm like a 4.5.
Matt Jones
Okay. You. You think it could just be 3?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I think it's possible.
Matt Jones
Okay, that's interesting. All right. What about you?
Shannon
Yeah, I thought half, so five is what I would guess.
Matt Jones
It's interesting to think. I mean, I. I won't make you all go. I'm gonna. I'm gonna take as a given that Moreno, Williams and Chandler and Hawthorne will be back. So I'm taking those four.
Drew
I think we have to pay Moreno. So pay him.
Matt Jones
We'll pay. He'll. They'll find. They're not gonna let a Kentucky kid that's been like, yeah, they're not gonna let him get out. I, I would be. I mean, maybe I'd be wrong, but I, There'll be local business. It's no local businesses will step up for him. I, I'd say I feel good about that. Wasn't no offense to Travis Perry. He hadn't shown what Michael Moreno has shown. I don't think there was the pressure to try to keep him. So I'm gonna say those four. Yes, for sure.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
And then, then it gets a little dicey.
Matt Jones
Then it gets more dicey. You. I'm gonna say they find a way to want to and do keep two other guys, but I would not be certain what two. But if you made me go, all right, Matt. Go all in on who the other two would be, I would say Noah.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I think Yellowch is an interesting.
Matt Jones
That's it. That was going to be my next one. Yellow bitch, but. Or low. I don't know what they're going to. I don't know what they're going to do with it. I don't know whether they want him. I so I don't know.
Drew
People might not like my take, but take the emotions out of it. Recruit over everyone except maybe Marino. Go get the best in the portal. Sorry.
Matt Jones
You would recruit over Cam Williams, though.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
All right.
Drew
Every single position I'm offering the best player and seeing what happens.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'm not, I, I disagree with you there. I, I, I, I like those three that I feel really good about. I think you bring those guys back now, you go and maybe try to get guys better than them, but you, you try to bring like, I like.
Drew
That low tried to play. But I think you go into this off season trying to find the best point guard in the country.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
You would.
Drew
And you do that just about every single spot.
Matt Jones
But if, if, if our guys entered the portal, let's say Moreno, Williams and Chandler entered the portal, they would be top 25 guys in the portal. All three of them.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So you've got them. Don't let them go. Some of those other guys, I'm not disagreeing with you on, but those three guys would be ranked in the top 25 in the portal, don't you think?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I think so. I think Trent's going to be interesting. He's playing a lot now, but I'm sure he was unhappy before, you know, the middle of the season. Yellow Vic is a guy who's starting now, but I can see, you know, the fact that he could return home to his home country and play professionally.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he could Or. Yeah, there's a lot of things he could do. Who's next?
Shannon
Terry.
Matt Jones
Terry. Go ahead, Terry.
Caller
A couple of entertainment things in a basketball take. Did you know Dan Seals was the. In the group England? Dan and John Ford Coley in his soft rock days.
Matt Jones
Never heard of that group, so. No, I did not.
Caller
I know Shannon knows him and I got a. A show recommendation for you guys, especially Drew, because I think he likes these kind of things. It just came out in January. Of a killer.
Matt Jones
Say that again.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
You.
Matt Jones
You broke up. What was the name of it?
Caller
Memory of a Killer with Patrick Dempsey McDreamy. He's like a. He's a. Lives a double life. Good. Write that. Write that one down.
Matt Jones
But.
Caller
And as far as the Florida game. Florida game. You look at who's who. They've played their last five games. I'm taking nothing away from Florida. They're playing great, but they haven't exactly been playing teams that are defensively strong, so. And they're not going to continue to beat everybody by 30 points. That's got to end at some point and it might as well be Saturday. I'm going up and listen.
Matt Jones
Appreciate the call. Yeah, I mean, that's. We'll see. I think that's a game Saturday that's either we're really competitive and in it, or we get blown off the streets.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
What will the spread be, you think, when it comes out?
Matt Jones
Florida by eight and a half?
Drew
I was like close to 10. I'll say nine and a half. Just to be different.
Matt Jones
Yeah, somewhere around there. P Rats is a locally owned and operated appliance furniture and mattress store that has served the area for over 75 years. And even after 75 years, Pratt's keeps getting better with age, being voted the best appliance retailer in the brew grass the last six years in a row. Or you're just too into Canadian hockey?
Drew
Yeah, she's locked in.
Matt Jones
She's locked into Canadian hockey. I understand. Really good. No Che. No Che. Linda Farms bringing it with the burgers.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
They're so good here now. They're unbelievable.
Matt Jones
We'll take a break. Be right back.

Matt Jones
They're all sitting around like a semicircle and they're singing. I think I like this song too, Shannon, because he does the thing, you know, I like with the voice when people go, yeah, yeah. Like when. When John Anderson died. I always like when guys change their voice from high to low or whatever really quick.
Shannon
It's had to be a long time ago because Roy Clark's in this video.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Roy Clark is in it. Who's long dead.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So, yeah.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Kind of cool. I want to see the video, though.
Matt Jones
It's on. Tick tock.
Shannon
Tick tock.
Matt Jones
Yeah. 859-280-2287. One person writes Matt Drew is correct about how we should approach the portal. Your approach would be making the same mistake we've made the last two years, not getting guys who were the dude at their last school. Chandler and Cam don't fit that bill. I understand that philosophy, but I also think, you know, we can't get everybody we want. We saw that in the last portal. You know, there's a lot of guys we wanted that we didn't get. So part of what I would ask is if. If Cam Williams goes in the portal, what schools are going to want him? I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say Michael Moreno and Cam Williams will be wanted by everybody.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Malachi.
Matt Jones
Well, I was saying. I'm sorry. Malachi Moreno and Cam Williams and Colin Chandler, I think would be wanted by most people, maybe not everybody. So if you have guys that everybody wants, then I think you want to keep those guys. Now, some other of our guys would only be wanted, Drew, by some teams. And so. But I think those three guys, with the exception of maybe Duke because they've got so many people coming in, I think everybody would want those three guys.
Drew
I like Cam Williams. Hope we keep him. But if there's a star out there that I think you throw them a bag, I mean, we still haven't seen Cam Williams potential. Maybe he never hits it.
Matt Jones
Maybe.
Drew
And a lot of it is how this year ends. If they don't make the weekend of the SEC tournament, lose first Week in ncaa then are those guys all gonna be hot portal targets?
Matt Jones
Malachi is gonna be.
Drew
Malachi's the one where. Yeah, the other.
Matt Jones
No way. There's. And Pope can't lose Malachi Moraine.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Agreed.
Matt Jones
Like, he cannot lose him for any reason.
Drew
I consider him one of the stars that you would go out and chase. Like, I wouldn't recruit over him, but I would look at everyone else and say, hey, I'm calling people. We'll figure it out. But I have to go out and find the best.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah, I'm hearing that a lot like what you said. Your texter was just saying that last year they went out and got six man and Aberdeen six man in dubate, six man in cam wave. They didn't know necessarily go out and get a dude.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I just. Also, that would remind you of the portal list last year. Not as many dudes. Right. Like, a lot of guys are staying at their schools. So the guys you get, I mean, we did. We have, what, the third or fourth highest ranked portal class now. You're right. The difference between recruiting six men and best players at their school, I think is an important difference. But, you know, Donovan Dent was the number one point guard. He was the dude at New Mexico.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Right.
Matt Jones
He's not been very good. So I think. I don't think Mark Pope. Let me. I'll finish with this. Mark Pope is not a coach who. I think you can turn his whole roster over, and he's great at that. You know, I. I think you. I think having dudes getting their second year helps really. Hadn't helped with Garrison a lot, but for. But I think it helped with oa. I think it helped with Chandler. So a third year to me with those guys would be good. Who's next?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Shannon.
Matt Jones
Shannon. Go ahead, Shannon.
Caller
I want to give a shout out to the trancy men and women. Both of them are leading their conference. The men are sitting at 15 and 8:12.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Oh, no.
Matt Jones
What happens with these people's phones? Is that us or them?
Shannon
It's them.
Matt Jones
Okay, well, I'm sorry. Shout out to the transy. Yeah, shout out to Transy. I would like to. Who's good in high school basketball this year? Did I see that? Like, is Davis county number one?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Davis County's got a kid named Moss who's being recruited, like, by. I think Maryland's even recruiting him. Like, some major kids. Saint X has got maybe the best sophomore in this. He is the best.
Matt Jones
Who are, like, the five best team.
Drew
Catholics. Really good.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Covington Catholics.
Matt Jones
So Davis County. Saint X Covenant Catholic, who else?
Drew
Madison.
Matt Jones
Madison Central is really good.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Central's best team around here for sure. They got Felt House's kid, Darren Felthouse kid is going to Belmont.
Matt Jones
Is there anybody good in the mountains?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I'm sure there are. Let's just go ahead and say Middlesbrough is good.
Matt Jones
I don't think they're very good.
Drew
One of the North, Laurel. They're all right.
Matt Jones
No, it's not far as our top 25. I just feel like I haven't heard as much about high school basketball this year to know. To know who's good. Who's next?
Shannon
Charles.
Matt Jones
Charles, go ahead.
Caller
Hey, Matt, I just want to let you know I go to the Kentucky singles dance every. Every year, every Sunday night. And they give away. They raffle off two tickets to the UOFL game or a hundred dollars in cash. And everybody takes the money, even the U of L fans.
Matt Jones
Is that right?
Caller
And. And the. Yeah, and the disc jockey, he. He tries to keep. Keep it secret, but I go up and ask them and even the UFL fans that we want those tickets.
Matt Jones
That's great. What is the Kentucky singles Dance?
Caller
Yes. It's at the Moose Lodge every Sunday night in Fagan Bush Lane in Louisville.
Matt Jones
Oh, wow. So it's all single people. And do people really dance?
Caller
Oh, yeah, Usually dance.
Shannon
I think my dad goes to this.
Matt Jones
Wait a minute, your dad goes.
Shannon
I think he does. He always talks about the Moose Lodge on the weekends in Louisville.
Matt Jones
I knew nothing about this. So the Moose Lodge in Louisville has a single stand. How many people go, sir?
Caller
Oh, man, I don't know. It's a pretty good crowd. The parking lot's pretty full. It's a lot of women. Men, usually. It's a 50 and up crowd like the old Jim Porter's crowd.
Matt Jones
And is it men? Like, what's the men to women ratio?
Caller
There's probably a few more women than men because the women.
Matt Jones
How so? I can see why your dad goes.
Shannon
The only thing is he's not single.
Matt Jones
Sir. All right.
Caller
This Sunday night they're having the KSR Matt Jones night. So anybody mentioned Matt Jones or ksr, and you get in free.
Matt Jones
Okay. You may have been doing that as an ad. Although I will say I think it would be. It would be interesting to see the kid. The Moose Lodge Sunday night.
Shannon
I think I'm gonna go one night just to see what's going on there.
Matt Jones
Oh, I bet that it might not let me in.
Shannon
I might be too young to get in, but I'll try.
Matt Jones
I bet there'd be some boot scooting by the way, the. The best ones coming in Catholic, Davis County, Madison Central, Saintx Jefferson Town, George Rogers, Clark McCracken, Ballard North Oldham, North Laurel.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
There you go.
Matt Jones
So tournaments will start printing some different names there this year as well. All right. DraftKings. We're going to go with our hockey team is playing USA Hockey. Go to DraftKings. You can bring promo code KSR BET5 you can win up to $300 in bonus pets. We play Latvia at 3 o'. Clock. Who you got?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
These colors don't run. Latvia is gonna be scared of the United States. We're taking United States almost at the Kentucky Wildcats.
Drew
That's our pep talk. I might go Lafaya.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Let's not have you talk in front.
Drew
Of the I wouldn't feel the miracle vibes there and then build up.
Matt Jones

As a Jewish athlete, my identity is something I am proud of.

But I also know what it feels like to be singled out for it. That's why this new commercial for the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate that aired during the big game really hit home. It's about showing up for someone when they're targeted.

Even if you don't have the perfect words.

And sometimes standing next to someone is enough. And you can show support by sharing the blue square.

On this episode of Kentucky Sports Radio Hour 2, Matt Jones, Drew Franklin, Shannon The Dude, and the KSR crew broadcast live from KS Bar and Grill, delving into University of Kentucky (UK) basketball news, Big 12's new glass basketball floor, a Netflix documentary on a Louisville murder, Kentucky baseball season kickoff, high school sports, and even local Louisville trivia. The team banters with callers, debates UK’s basketball future, portal prospects, Louisville’s “Glitter Ball City” nickname, and even shares Valentine’s Day plans. The tone is casual, humorous, and opinionated, giving listeners a front-row seat to Kentucky sports culture and small-town life.
This episode exemplifies KSR’s mix of sports analysis, local color, and playful debate. The hosts balance hard opinions on UK’s team construction and coaching philosophy with a generous helping of Kentucky trivia, offbeat news, and community touchstones, from Netflix docs to singles mixers. Banter is sharp but warm, with both on-air chemistry and audience engagement via callers and texts.
Fans of Kentucky sports — and “characters” — will find this episode a lively, revealing look into the UK sports zeitgeist of early 2026.
