One person writes, matt, I understand about Shea and Cason. It is what it is. But people need a place to go when their career is over. That's when all these guys embrace Kentucky. Ryan, I totally agree with that. You know, you get what you get one school. And I don't think like, you know, how many times do we see Derrick Rose at a Kentucky game, right? Like, hey, point, his school is Memphis. So I do think ultimately these guys, when it's over, they pick the school they went to because they will be beloved there forever. I mean, it would be weird for Case and Wallace to show up in an Arkansas game in 30 years. The people would be like, what are you doing here? You know, So I. It'll be. Would be Kentucky.

I think as they get older, like I said earlier, it kind of soaks in more because they come back and they feel that love. We even heard from guys like Khalil Whitney, who kind of left kind of in a little shadow of controversy. He comes back and then it's still here. He loves this place here. So I think maybe as time goes on, Casey will also come back, feel the love, and become more of a part of our family again.

[Matt Jones]

Another person writes. Matt. Yeah. You've gone a long time without commenting on the fact that the president denied your request to come on the radio to talk about Mitch Barnhart's contract. They did. UK denied and said President Capilouto would not come on. I asked about having him on to talk about the. I thought, by the way, it was 1.8 million. I talked to a spokesman for UK yesterday. I actually think Drew it was more money than that because they did not add. So the WKYT initially reported that they added $150,000 a year in salary and they reported that added $250,000 bonus. UK tells me they did not add the bonus, so take that 250 away. But they actually added Drew two years to his contract, which I thought it was just one. So if you do the math there, that ends up being around 2 to $2.1 million of extra money. So I offered to have President Capilouto on to be questioned about it, and they have denied the request. I asked them last Monday or last Tuesday and just heard back from them yesterday. I am told they are doing an interview with another show on another station, which, you know, I'll let everybody make whatever comment they want about whether or not it makes sense to go on a show. Shannon, that honestly I didn't know existed until I was told they were going on it. Yeah, that's not. I'm not even talking trash. I didn't even know that show existed. So, you know, if they want to go on a show where they might as well go open the window and scream outside, that's fine. But, you know, you can make your own determination why they wouldn't want to face questions here. But nevertheless, that's the. That's the response.

[Shannon]

It gives that impression. What are you hiding? Why won't you come on and talk about it? Why Are you hiding?

[Matt Jones]

Well, it is.

[Shannon]

They don't have answers. That's what's happening.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. I mean, what are you going to say? I mean. I mean, what are you going to say? Like. And I think that's part of. I'm sure I'm told they're going to do some media, and that's fine, but the question is, are you going to do media where you're asked questions or not? I would ask questions. I think people know that, and so they chose not to. But it's inarguable that this is the biggest platform. Okay. That's not. There's no way to debate that. So if you want to get your story out, this is clearly the best place to do it. If you don't, well, that's. I mean, that's ultimately your choice. UK and Santa Clara. I put out that video yesterday, Drew, saying, why are we all acting like we're scared of Santa Clara?

[Ryan]

And it felt like most people, I

[Matt Jones]

think, agreed with me. I feel better about the game today than I even did yesterday. I don't understand everybody's fretting. Don't get me wrong, we could still definitely lose because this team has shown they can lose to a lot of teams, but we are better than them. And if we play the way we should, we will win. Drew, is that how you feel going into it?

[Shannon]

I feel pretty good. You know, having the lowest point spread of the opening round isn't the most exciting. There's one other game that was a one and a half. Where next is the tightest point spread for all games. For all. I mean, there were other two and a halfs, but two and a half. There's only one spread that was one and a half. So we're. We're right there as the. Is what the desert thinks about it. But I still just feel like as a fan base, we're being a little too cautious because we've been hurt so much recently. This is Santa Clara. Yeah. They played Gonzaga three times and they lost all three. And. And they beat Santa St. Mary's which is a great team, but beyond that, they haven't really been challenged. And I think even though we're pretty disappointed in Kentucky running that gauntlet of the SEC that they just did, I feel like they played pretty well in all three games. The SEC tournament just could make shots on Friday. This should be a game. Kentucky handles this. I mean, this is a logo game. If we show up intimidated at all, that's a problem. You have to be prepared to beat a team from the third place team in the West Coast Conference and you're Kentucky. That is a game you have to win and it should be inexcusable. I don't care how many threes they take that you would lose in the first round of this team. So I have concerns about round two, but I am not looking ahead. But I'm also not panicking because Santa Clara is in front of us.

[Ryan]

Yeah, I mean, what I. I understand

[Matt Jones]

that we lost to Oakland and St.

[Ryan]

Peters, but that was not Mark Pope. And I know we've lost a bunch

of games this year, but correct me if I'm wrong, is every team that's beat us this year, are they in the tournament? Am I correct about that?

[Shannon]

Not Auburn, but Auburn is the only

one and they were the first team out, right?

[Shannon]

Yeah.

Yeah. So, I mean, St. Peter or, excuse me, Santa Clara.

In March, Santa Clara has lost to Loyola, Chicago, to New Mexico, into Arizona

State, and as far as wins they

have over tournament teams, they have two St. Mary's that's it. They beat St. Mary's twice, but they lost to Xavier. Excuse me. They beat Xavier, they beat Nevada, and

the only major conference team they've beaten

is Minnesota, who I think came in last place in the big. In the Big Ten.

So, you know, again, could we lose?

Of course we could lose. But the fretting about it, Ryan, just doesn't make any sense to me.

Oh, we're. We're gun shy because of what has happened the last couple years. I bet I went to three different places yesterday and heard the same thing. Well, Santa Clara shoots a lot of threes near a great offensive.

Shannon, you said this in the preset, like who's watched them.

Yeah.

All of a sudden really is a Santa Clara expert, I hear. I'm so tired. We don't match up well with Santa Clara. If we don't match up well with Santa Clara, then who do we match up well with?

The same people who are.

You haven't watched them play. Like when they say they shoot threes well, my question is, do you think we shoot threes well? Because we shoot the same percentage they do. So who shoots threes? Well, they shoot the exact same percentage we do. So I mean, unless you think we just light up the nets, Drew, I don't know how you can say that.

Well, they rebound well.

Well, our rebound differential is greater than theirs. And we play better teams.

And those teams are playing. Are they better defensively than Kentucky is? Those teams they're shooting well against, they're not shooting against SEC caliber teams.

I mean, if our rebound differential is better than theirs and we play better teams, how can you look at me in the face and say, they're a

really great rebounding team?

Now, that doesn't mean they won't beat us. It doesn't mean that they, that they aren't good. But when did we get so scared as this fan base? And you can't just say, well, I've

been let down or Mark Pope's not a good coach.

Some of it is also like we. You walk in this building like you're a Kentucky fan. We don't walk in and go, oh, Santa Quilla, come on.

I completely agree with you.

If you want to be nervous about Iowa State, fine. But this is Santa Clara and I

would rather, I would rather play their style of basketball than a team that wants to just come in and turn it into a rock fight and play in the 40s. If they want to get up and down and play in transition and shoot, okay, I think that's a better matchup for Kentucky now. Sure. Their guys, I mean, they have three all conference first team players. I mean they, they deserve some respect. And if those guys get hot and shoot 50% from three, sure, maybe we're going home. I'm not walking into this with nightmares of Santa Clara Broncos in the first round of this.

[Ryan]

How many of our guys, if they played in the west coast conference, wouldn't

[Matt Jones]

be first team all American or first team all conference or whatever it is they have.

[Ryan]

First of all, I think, don't they have like 10 guys on the first team?

[Matt Jones]

Okay, so they got three of them. That's nice.

You think OA would be first team in the West Coast Conference?

[Matt Jones]

Yep. You think Aberdeen would be first team in the West Coast Conference?

Probably.

You think Moreno would. You think Chandler would like.

It's just, I don't get, I don't understand the being afraid. It's the doom and gloom. I get frustrated. Everyone should be frustrated. But there is a moment that when you're playing. They haven't been to the tournament, Shannon, since Steve Nash play.

I'm not saying he's good as Yaxel, but his phone's going to ring a lot and he'll command close to him out as money as Yaxel. I think he will be one of the hottest, hottest portal names this spring. Pope even said he's going to be a lottery pick in a couple of years. So when you're watching Alan Graves, maybe you know, in the back of your mind think, hey, that'd be a fun guy to have on our team.

He's there.

He's our toughest matchup. And he's the one you've gotta. You gotta watch because he, I think he's averaging what, 13 points a game and he's a four. It's going to be like Diabate is going to have to play on him. I can already see that. He'll have six points in the first time out and we'll have to switch defenders on him. He's really good. And he might be the one place that they have a positional advantage on us. I will take the bet though, Shannon, on whether he's a lottery pick with Mark Pope.

I didn't know it was a show. So that's not talking trash. I just didn't know. But then again, like yeah, Shannon's right. There are shows that I don't know exist. I'm sure it'll do. I'm sure that interview will do really well. One person writes, matt, would you go on a show that has bad mouth you for years you've made fun of Mitch and question every movie is made. If I were uk, I'd never give you an interview. Okay, that's fine. I mean that can be your first of all, it's not true that I've bad Mitch a bad mouthed Mitch for years. I've Said, I think he's the best ad here. If to go on a show, the only way you can do it is if no one on the show has ever criticized you, then that's such a terrible media relations strategy.

[Ryan]

You want, like you should want as a leader, to convince people that disagree with you. So think about the people who, like, just use politics. Barack Obama did interviews with Bill O'Reilly at the Super Bowl. Bill O'Reilly criticized him every night, but he still did the interview with him. Donald Trump, when he ran for president, the first time he. He interviews with anybody that wanted to do him. And that's in part how he won. You know, I have a lot of respect for people who will do interviews

[Matt Jones]

with folks that disagree with him.

[Ryan]

If you only talk to people that agree with you, that's the lamest thing in the world. You're just preaching to the choir in.

[Matt Jones]

It's like church. Preachers should go out in the community and win people over. If you're only talking in the building of your church, who are you winning over? So, you know, if, if. If Eli Capilouto wants to convince the UK fan base that this contract makes sense, Ryan, why wouldn't you talk to the UK fan base? Right. This is where they are.

An eight seed and they went to the Final Four and they were in St. Louis.

And they were in St. Louis.

That's right. That's right. They were in St. Louis. And they, you know, they definitely weren't expected to go that far. And. But I remember as the tournament went on, I just was like, wow, these guys can beat anybody. They really can. I don't really feel the same about the team this year, but I do have confidence we'll get past Santa Clara, and I think we got a pretty good draw. And with that, I'll let you know.

Yeah. And I agree that the ceiling of this team probably isn't a Final Four run, but as someone who thinks Iowa State is going to beat Kentucky, I'm not lucky, thinking it's impossible. I mean, Iowa State has some disappointing results the last several years in the NCAA Tournament. It's not like there's some world beater that's just going to run the table. I don't have a lot of faith. Can Kentucky do it? But I'm not ruling it out by any means. They can get hot and win, you know, three, four games.

I've not seen that on the news,

but I don't know.

Well, here, let's do a quick.

I guess Middlesbrough is no longer Crater City.

[Matt Jones]

Wow. A suspected meteor loud boom reported across northeast Ohio. Meteor could be the cause of the boom.

[Drew Franklin]

Could be. We don't know. Not confirmed.

[Matt Jones]

NASA confirms meteor caused loud boom across northeast Ohio.

[Shannon]

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, trust that one. So apparently a meteor hit just outside of Cleveland that called caused shakes all through northeast Ohio and as far east as Pennsylvania. Oh, and they have a picture of it.

[Shannon]

Nothing.

[Drew Franklin]

Nothing damaged.

[Matt Jones]

Well, I think it hit ground that was like empty.

[Drew Franklin]

See, that's why I'm not worried about it. Like Earth is so big you could hit and then it doesn't even touch anything. So what are we worried about? Unless it's like, you know, so what percentage.

[Matt Jones]

Okay.

[Ryan]

So what percentage of the world is ocean?

[Matt Jones]

It's a huge. It's like. What is it? Three fours?

[Ryan]

Yeah, something like that.

[Matt Jones]

Do we know, Drew? That feels like something you would know. Is it 80?

[Shannon]

There's a. There's a. There's a. No. 70 something. So right at 3, 4. So there's a number.

[Matt Jones]

So let's just say it's 3, 4. So that means you got a 3 and 4 chance of Shannon, of it hitting nothing. Now, it could cause like a tsunami, but let's just act like that's not happening. Okay. Yeah.

[Ryan]

Then how much of the world is

[Matt Jones]

ground that is uninhabited? It's a lot. Right? Like, it. Like the poles, for the most part, you know, I mean, even in America. Think about all. When we drive to California, all the blank space everywhere.

[Shannon]

Right?

[Matt Jones]

So is that. Is there any, like, what percentage of the ground of the Earth that is not water has no people in it? It's probably a lot. I have. No, I've just been guessing. So you're saying you're not worried? Because even if it comes, maybe what, a 1 in 10 chance anybody lives there?

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, see, a quick, quick Google search says approximately 50 to 57% of Earth's land surface is considered uninhabited.

[Matt Jones]

Okay. So 75% of is water. And then of the 25%, that's not half is uninhabited. So it's basically 12.5% of America has. Has people on it.

[Ryan]

So it's a 1 in 8 chance

[Matt Jones]

that if a meteor comes, it would hit where people are. And so you're saying, Shannon, that's not enough for you to worry.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. Now, if that hit, like New York City, that would be disastrous.

[Matt Jones]

It would be awful. I think there are movies about that.

[Drew Franklin]

Right. But the odds are still in our favor that if a meteor is going to hit Earth, it's going to do what it did today in Cleveland and go.

[Ryan]

But does it worry you at all

[Matt Jones]

that it hit Ohio, Drew, and it didn't seem like anybody tried to stop it.

[Shannon]

I would have liked. I would have liked a warning, maybe a text alert. Hey, look up anything like that. I wouldn't live in fear with it because I just feel like if I got. If I'm the guy that got hit by the meteor, man, it was just my time to go.

[Drew Franklin]

You never seen it coming anyway.

[Shannon]

Not much I can say about that.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, it's true. I mean, what are you gonna do? There's nothing you can do.

[Shannon]

But do we have a way of shooting them down?

I would have Thought I would have

thought, honestly, if they had a meteor

headed towards Cleveland, they would have shot it down. But I guess you shoot it down,

it breaks up into pieces and then you might be covering more land. So you might just be like Cleveland.

They're not going to build a city. Middlesbrough is the only place with the crate. We are Crater City. We're not giving that up to a small town outside of Cleveland. But.

Hey, what's up, guys? About to come at you with a lot of facts. First, the meteor set Earth or they come through the atmosphere all the time. That's what causes the sonic boom. I mean, as far as we know, a meteor didn't actually hit the ground. It burns up and causes the sonic boom.

Oh, so they're not.

So it didn't hit the ground?

I mean, from everything I've seen. No, I mean, that happens all the time. When you see a shooting star or whatnot, that's a meteor coming through that's burning up in the atmosphere. You know, sometimes if it's a larger one, it does cause a sonic boom. But yeah, as far as, you know, Santa Clara and Kentucky, it's. I've got two things. One that is in favor and one that that is not Kentucky. There's only 16 teams in front of them that are in top 40 of both offense and defense. So, I mean, that would suggest that we should be able to make a run to the sweet 16. But as far as, you know, us shooting the same three point percentage of them that you've been saying, you know, if we go 4 for 10, that's 40. And they go 10 for 30. 30, they've still had 18 more points than us at the three point line. So that's.

[Ryan]

No, that's a fair point.

I know that that's a completely fair point. What is the total. Do you know what the comparison is? Total number of threes for both teams made this year. I would assume they probably have more,

but I don't know what Kentucky's is. But, you know, I think I've heard Tom Leach say that they've hit almost 300 three pointers this year, which I know Kentucky is nowhere near that. So.

I mean, I don't know who they wanted. I mean, our other options, we couldn't play Missouri and Texas A and m because they're 10c seeds and we're in the same conference. So our only other option. If you look at the 10 seeds with central Florida and I can tell you I would be legitimately scared of Central Florida, they are athletically better than us. So I'm with you.

If you look at the options of

who we had to play, this was the best one.

Listen, I just. It's just ridiculous. I mean, they think, I mean, we're seven seed. What do we expect to get? You know what, you know what Stein said. If you're scared, you go to church. So, you know, bring them on. And bring on. I'm not scared of a cyclone either. I'm not scared of them either. Bring them on. Iowa State, we want them.

Yeah, I appreciate the call. The other option, I mean, there was only one other option, Ryan. We could play Central Florida, then Yukon or Santa Clara. Then I was State. So my question for you is, would you rather play Santa Clara and Iowa State or Central Florida and Yukon before the tournament?

You'd ask me to pick one of those 10 seeds. I'm picking Santa Clara. If you asked me to pick one of the two seeds, I'm picking Iowa State. I mean, it could have been what location. I'm picking St. Louis.

That's true. We also probably got the best location. Drew, I know you, you were a little more, more bearish on this game with Iowa State. Would you rather have gotten Central Florida and Yukon?
