I had a woman who wrote me last night just a great description of all the food stuff like said these are the seven places and reasons why. And she just spoke with authority. So I think I'll probably follow a lot of what she says.

Well, it was kind of cool walking through the hill because like every restaurant was an Italian restaurant. Well, we were one. Somebody recommended to us was outstanding.

Yeah. There was also a place for self care. I think I'm gonna go get some self care.

I don't know what that means.

That's right. There are not given. Let's talk about a couple things here. Watching the game last night, I noticed the inflatable basketballs are back.

The Wilson basketball people don't realize they that for reasons that no one has really understand, they seemed to over inflate the basketballs for the tournament. And if you watch that game last night, missed shots. The rebounds were long.

[Shannon]

Yes.

[Matt Jones]

And the dribbling guys would dribble it

[Shannon]

hot several times now.

[Matt Jones]

I mean both teams are playing with it, so it's not. But. But I remember Kobe Braya last year said, you have to shoot differently with this ball. You just do. So you know, one thing's Pope. I remember he remember he played. They would practice with the ball they were going to use. I'm sure they did that with this.

[Shannon]

They did.

[Matt Jones]

But it'd be interesting to watch. Even with the games today, these balls are more inflated. You can just tell like the. The rebate. You can really tell when you watch the rebounds from a missed three. Just look how far they go.

[Shannon]

He mentioned a couple times where the guard scout Jack, one of the guys bringing the ball down the floor, he'd have one dribble.

[Matt Jones]

Like it'd be a dribble where he'd take him off guard. How high would you would see it. And I think that's just something to watch. I don't know if there's a science of like turnovers. Long rebounds is I think where you. You will really. You'll really see it.

So like they're a shoot around. They've hit today. It's kind of important with the new ball, the new rims, new arenas gets. Get a lot of shots. Up to the hour session today, you

mentioned, you know, being in St. Louis. Kentucky's got great history here. Obviously. Kentucky won the national championship in St. Louis with Jack Givens scoring 41. Tayshawn Prince scored 41 in St. Louis. Both were number 21 against Tulsa. Against Tulsa. Kentucky beat Wichita State here.

In the second round. So a lot of great history. Tournament winning. Gabriel hitting all those threes. So this city has generally been pretty good to us. Have we had an SEC loss here or NCA loss here? I can't. I thought we. Yes.

[Shannon]

I just. Just remember in 99 we got beat by Michigan State in the Elite Eight.

[Matt Jones]

That was here.

[Shannon]

That was here in St. Louis.

[Matt Jones]

Okay. I remember that we beat Kansas in the sweet 16 and then lost to Michigan State in the Elite Eight.

[Shannon]

And you were right that that's the year we played Wally Zerbiac in Miami. Ohio was in that 99 tournament, right? Was it 99?

[Matt Jones]

Oh, you're right. Then why do I think we beat Kansas? Because we did. But no, we beat Kansas in the second round that year.

[Shannon]

Okay.

[Matt Jones]

And then we played Miami of Ohio. Yeah, because I remember. I remember us meeting for some reason. I remember the Kansas part, but we lost to Michigan State in 99. I think that was Izzo's first final four, actually.

[Shannon]

So Jack scoring 41 wearing number 21 in St. Louis. Tayshawn scored 41 wearing number 21 in St. Louis. That means our number 21 this week should score 41 points.

[Matt Jones]

Is that Jaden Quaint?

Now that would be a story if in the second round he scored 41 points. Get him ready, considering he's not playing.

Yes, he helped. Just having him out there, you know, he hit a couple. He didn't hit a bunch of shots, but he just. Enough that you had to pay attention to him. Spread the defense out for Otaga and Aberdeen.

Tomorrow morning it is. Remember, the game is early, so KSR is 9 to 10:30. We are preempting the pre show and KSR will be 9 to 10:30 for those of you. The woman that was in charge of snow removal in Lexington was fired by Linda Gorton yesterday and she said we are tearing up our playbook and starting over on how to address snow and ice in Lexington. Do you think that's a good decision?

This past year when we went through that, that two weeks was miserable in Lexington, they definitely dropped the ball and I don't know whose decision it was to do to make the decision that they did, but it was obviously wrong because the tent, the town was awful for two weeks.

[Matt Jones]

The person that's replacing the woman that had it, Shannon, I think I saw, has had this same job three different times. They just can't leave him.

[Ryan]

Really.

[Shannon]

Must be good.

He must be good. Every time he goes, they bring him back.

So they hire him, they fire him. They hire him, they fire him.

I don't think they fire him. I think he moves on to greener snow pastures.

You know, I saw the. The guy in New York, Zorin, like, they interviewed all these people who are not fans of his, and they're like, I don't like him, but he got that snow out quick. So I like that because for a lot of people, that's all they know. They do.

Right. Get the snow out. Because he got the snow out in like 36 hours in his. Linda Gordon, I think most people generally like her, but she didn't get the snow out. So I think I would venture to say is the election this fall.

What other. What other. What other issues are there? Like. Like you, I live in Lexington, but as much as I like politics, I don't follow Lexington politics. Really. I don't really know what's going on in Lexington. You are a man of the community. What are the hot topics in Lexington except snow removal?

Well, it was the park behind your house. But now that's settled, it's built, it's finalized.

All right, so that's alpha.

So now what else is there to even argue about? They always talk about the county extension line or whatever. Right. The business where you can. What's that called? Where you can build more stuff. Yeah, we're really informed, Shannon, on the issues in Lexington, to me. But there's a line like where because all the rich people want to build more Things. And then people are like, no, don't build any more things. Things. I don't remember what it's called.

But new. The traffic on New Circle Road.

But what are you gonna do about that?

[Shannon]

That's always, always your.

Your solution of tear all the businesses down is not one that's gonna fly.

It's really not. It's really not a solution. So my point is, like, I'm. Now I'm going to be a Lexington voter by this.

I would love to run to premier someday when all this KSR is all ultimately.

I'm not throwing my hat my support over anybody yet.

He's gonna meet with this guy, then vote for somebody else.

I could easily be boss.

I love Kareem Abdul Jabbar. I think even picked him in my ESPN bracket. But if you're really wanting to say St. Louis been wildly inconsistent. Georgia is going to be more athletic. I'm going to take Georgia. Two and a half point favorite would be my pick of the day.

Georgia scores a lot of points and the sec, you know, playing the SEC is kind of battle tested them gets a team like St. Louis. So yeah, I think Georgia wins.

I think this means they can't advance to the round past that, but I think they can win today. I picked South Florida in my bracket, but I, I wouldn't be confident.

Jeff McCarl said that, that when the minute you walk out they had AC DC blaring on the speakers and the music plays the entire practice. He said it seemed to be a little more pep in their step, a little more energy with the music going after the whole.

I love those sees like positivity and excitement and it was just cool to watch. I mean these guys, we don't really know them, the coaches or the players. So all the behind the scenes stuff is good. Got to see Kenny Minchee toss it around a little bit.

You know, I mean I'm still in basketball mode. I'm going to be in basketball mode at least till Kentucky loses. But the, the football content, you know, I, I'm excited about this group.

There were two things that walk away early. People were saying one, energy, excitement, level there and two, the offensive line Guys are massive.

[Matt Jones]

Well, they better be. I mean, you, you could make a strong argument that four of our five biggest polls in the portal were the offensive line guys. So you, you need your offensive line to be great. I was listening to Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman and they were talking about Kentucky's offensive line and they said this offensive line will be the best Kentucky's had, maybe even better than the year they had all those guys going to

draft on the big blue wall.

[Matt Jones]

So, I mean, wow. At least in terms of pedigree, how they, how they play, we'll have to see. But I mean, look, they got three of the top 11 offensive linemen in the portal came to Kentucky. Three of the top 11. A dude who started three straight years at Ohio State is coming here.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And now they thought he was going to lose his job this year, but whatever. If he, I mean, Ohio State won a title while he was a starter. I'll take it.

[Shannon]

This guy started at Tennessee, guy started at Baylor. It's a pretty good program.

[Matt Jones]

Number one offensive lineman in the entire class. We got from.

[Shannon]

Got him. So they obviously just made a concentrated effort to look where. This is where we're going to spend our money. We're going to, we're going to build starting with these guys.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. I think Will said. Well, someone close to the program told me that they just thought their money this first year could be most efficiently spent on the offense.

They didn't want to get into bidding wars for some of the skill position players that they could most efficiently spend it there and go get you a

good quarterback and then just try to fill in the blanks outside of that. And I think that's exactly what they did.

That looked like a team Mark Pope would like to coach. They, they were letting the ball fly.

Yeah, they call it now that's, that's a phrase that has become popular in the last couple. Couple years. It's like called a kill run or kill shot.

And it's a 100 run. And there's some stat that if you have two of those in a game, you like never lose. And we've actually had some teams get two of them on us. Miami Got two last night. And. And I think there's a stat that if you get one, you have, like, an 80% chance of winning. So I think they call it 10, 0 run nowadays. I. This is a. Like, for me, a relatively new term, sir. I think it's called a kill shot.

[Shannon]

So I think I saw after Florida beat Kentucky in the SEC tournament, stat was Florida had a kill shot in all three games against Kentucky this year. All three games.

[Matt Jones]

And we've had a lot of teams have against us.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And that's just hard. That's hard to. It's. It's hard to come back from now. This team's done it a number of times, but still, it's not something you want to make normal.

[Shannon]

I feel like this Kentucky team is a team that I. I don't think they can make a Final Four run, but I do think they can upset some people and get some big wins yet still in them.

[Matt Jones]

Well, the good thing about when the. Once the bracket comes out, it's not about, theoretically what you can do against teams. It's about what can you do against the teams that you have to play? You know what I mean? Like, it doesn't really matter what Kentucky could do against UConn. We don't have to play them. So the question is really pretty simple. Can Kentucky beat Santa Clara? Can Kentucky beat Iowa State, and can Kentucky beat Tennessee or Virginia?

[Shannon]

Virginia.

[Matt Jones]

That's the question.

[Shannon]

Or Miami Ohio, if they beat Tennessee

[Matt Jones]

or potentially Miami Ohio? Well, Kentucky can beat Santa Clara. Kentucky has already beat Tennessee. I know our fans like to play gloom and doom. We could beat Miami now. They could beat us, but we could beat them. And I think we could be Virginia. So the question is, can we beat Iowa State? I feel like I'm more confident about that than a lot of our fans are. But I do think till you get to the Elite Eight, there is no reason Kentucky can't beat any of these teams. But they also can lose to any of the teams. That's just the way this team is.

[Shannon]

Is there a concern that Iowa State will have more fans than anybody else in there?

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, but Illinois had more fans than us last year in Milwaukee, and we won.

[Shannon]

That's right.

[Matt Jones]

You know, I mean, Illinois completely out fanned us. And to be in. This team has won road games. This team won at Tennessee. Yeah, this team wanted Arkansas. I mean, Iowa State. This is not gonna be a more hostile environment than it was in Fayetteville.

[Shannon]

Very true.

[Matt Jones]

And they won. So I'm, you know, it'd be better if it was. It would be better if we had our fan base, but I don't think that's a huge.

[Shannon]

So somebody asked you what's the one key for Kentucky to make at least a decent run? What's the one thing it is has to happen?

[Matt Jones]

Well, I mean everyone that watches the team would, would say the same thing. I think Kentucky rarely wins when Chandler doesn't hit three threes. Okay. So Chandler's got to shoot the ball well. And the numbers are very clear that we rarely lose if we hold ourselves to under 11 turnovers. Now, we did lose to Florida in this last time and I think we only had what, six or something.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

But don't turn the ball over. Chandler hits threes. I feel pretty good about our chances against the teams we play. Now there are teams like Florida that, that's not even enough. But I don't think any of these teams right now were at that level yet.

See, I'm with you. I think, you know, Aberdeen and oa, they'll, they'll get theirs. They'll. They'll do their game, do their job. It all falls on that number, that third guy. And that third guy's got to be Chandler.

A lot of paperwork. And they do all these checks, and then you got to get this inspected and you got to do this, and it takes a lot. And Ryan's organized all that. He's done a really, really good job. I'm not just saying that.

He's actually professional when he wants.

He's actually done a good job. And I said, you know, man, like, you've done a really good job. You should promote the fact that you're a realtor more. I was like, why don't you do it on social media? I was like, you got more followers than probably every realtor in Lexington. He said, I don't know. And I said, well, like, why don't you make a graphic or something with. You remember the good picture he had with the gold tie?

That we. That didn't look like him. It looked like it was airbrushed. I was like, make it. And he goes, well, I don't know how to do that. And I said, mario is sitting right there. You could pay 50 bucks and he'd make you a graphic that would look awesome. And he just goes, yeah, I never thought of that.

It's a great idea. That's why you're going to be my PR person.

But you'd never thought that the person we have full time on staff could potentially do something for you on the side.

I know. There's just a lot of regulations and rules you have to follow to advertise.

They still got maybe the favorite to win at all. But all their other teams are stinking Clemson. They've got an 8, 9 matchup. I think that's right.

They do play Iowa. Yeah, Clemson plays Iowa. All right, so we will be here tomorrow morning, 9am Eastern Time. We will start. We'll combine mining the pre show and the show. We'll have the. The game is obviously at 12:15. If you're in Lexington KS bar all weekend, take off work tomorrow, watch the game. If your teachers and you have kids, if you don't let them watch the game tomorrow, then time to reconsider your priorities.
