welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. Our number two Kentucky Sports Radio 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-774-5254. All right, so we're going to take calls a bunch here in the second hour, but I also want to talk about a couple things. Shannon. I went to Zach Brian and Kings of Leon on Saturday.
Shannon
I heard.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you know that's not normally my thing. A lot of parts of it aren't my thing. Don't know either of those two. I mean I know who they are but between in the three and a half hours that they played, I knew three songs. I knew Sex is on Fire and then what's the other one?
Shannon
I know from Kings Use somebody.
Matt Jones
I knew those two. So during those songs I was. Yeah. And then on Zach Brian, I know he's very famous, but I only think the only song I knew was Something in the Orange or whatever. Right.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
I'm not sure what that one is.
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah.
Shannon
That one, like Max.
Matt Jones
Max and Miles kept saying to me, you know this one? I'm like, no, I didn't know any of them. Which is crazy because in listening to him, I don't know why I've had such an aversion to him for so long. I've almost like intentionally not listened to him, but I don't really know why. He's. He's fine. Here's my Zach Brian review. I thought he played his first concert in Pineville.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
He said in Pineville.
Matt Jones
In Pineville. He said he was in the military and he met a guy in the military. He was like, you need to sing for a living. And the first place he got booked was Pineville. Really. He said, like, he has this great affinity for Pineville. And then I remember Tyler Childers has a song about Pineville.
Caller or Listener
How did.
Matt Jones
Bell County. Yeah, right. But Zach Brian was like, pineville, Kentucky, this is my first. This was my. Which was crazy to me. I'm the only one that screamed. There was clearly no one there from Pineville.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Now he's huge.
Matt Jones
Now he's huge. He's actually. When he played his fast song, Shannon I really liked. Right. So he like his first half of his concert was where like fast songs and when he played, I thought they were good. I thought his. His band was good, he was good. He had a stage where he would look at all four side. So he would rotate around, which I thought was nice as a. As a singer. His slow songs, they all sound the same to me. It felt like Shannon, he played the same song for an hour straight.
Shannon
Well, that's for the females, right?
Matt Jones
I know. Okay. That was my other take. I couldn't believe how many women. First of all, is his core fan base. Like 15 to 18 year old girls. Definitely young women, but I mean like they like. I was amazed how many parents were there with their kids.
Shannon
Is it the male version of Taylor Swift?
Matt Jones
Maybe? Because it felt like it was all people my age and people and high schoolers, really. And no one in between. Huh. That's what it felt like to me. Now I didn't see everything, but. And then there were some people, like old guys there for only Kings of Leon, you know what I mean? Who are like, what do I do during Zach Brian? So Max and Max and Miles were kind of like that. They were just there for Kings.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
They were just there for Kings of Leon.
Matt Jones
So because of all that shit, and this is my point, Zach Brian was fine. I might actually listen to him more than I have. It was maybe one of My best efforts of getting out of a concert.
Shannon
Okay, I heard. I heard about this. I'm supposed to give you crap about you leaving early?
Matt Jones
No, I looked at him and I said, look, I'm here for you guys, right? Max, you've been here in Australia. I haven't seen you in forever. Love, Miles. Like, I'll do what y' all want, but I would suggest leaving now.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
We don't leave right now.
Matt Jones
We go watch the last two songs next to the gate and then get the heck out. So I guess he finishes with the song called Revival. And when he starts that, I'm like,
Shannon
we should already be in the car, make our break.
Matt Jones
So we go, we leave. Thank God. Did you see the stories about what happened after?
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
No.
Matt Jones
People were stuck down there until 2 in the. 3 in the morning.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Oh, no.
Matt Jones
See, U of L is not used to those crowds at the football stadium. They don't usually get that many people for the game, Shannon.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
So it was at the football stadium.
Matt Jones
Yeah. And there were more people than are at the games because there were people on the field. So the field was full and all the stands and the infrastructure around that campus just cannot handle that. And I could tell, like, Ubers, apparently Ubers, they just, like, Uber just was like, no more. We're done with you.
Shannon
Uber tapped out.
Matt Jones
Uber tapped out. So we got one. We walked to the Denny's and got one there. But I had friends who said they were down there till 2am Couldn't get out.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
But you were foresaw what was coming.
Matt Jones
You know, I have a sixth sense about this stuff, Shannon. I mean, WrestleMania will always be my best.
Shannon
Oh, yeah. We left during WrestleMania.
Matt Jones
I mean, WrestleMania was such a traffic disaster that the governor lost his reelection.
Shannon
For people were there.
Matt Jones
People were there until the next day. Right.
Shannon
But the report that I got from Max says Matt literally just talked about exit strategy from the moment we.
Matt Jones
That's a little of an exaggeration, but probably halfway through the Zach Brian stat, I started talking exit strategy.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
You did that when we were at the Hershey park. You said, okay, Ryan, you listen to five Def Leppard songs and that's it, we're out of here. Get first five and then we're leaving.
Matt Jones
There is one of those. What's the commercials you turn into your parents?
Shannon
Oh, yeah.
Julian Edelman
Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
There's one about leaving. About leaving early to beat the traffic.
Shannon
Planning the strategy before as soon as you enter in the stadium.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I do that.
Caller or Listener
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But people think I'm going to say it when Max. When Max and Miles were at the bar wanting to meet ladies. Who were they thanking?
Shannon
Yeah, I mean, it depends on, like,
Matt Jones
how much wouldn't have been at the bar.
Shannon
The last two songs really mean.
Matt Jones
Who cares? Revival. He go buy the CD, look it
Shannon
up on YouTube, watch it in the parking lot.
Matt Jones
Jeff, go ahead. Jeff. Jeff. All right. No, Jeff, go to Will.
Caller or Listener
Hey there. I'm not trying to tell anybody what to do, but Kentucky basketball is currently 40 to 1 to win the national championship. And if they get all these dudes, that thing is going to go to 10 or 12 to 1. You can either cash out and take the profit, or if they don't get any of them, you can cash out for 90% of your original bet, and you're really not out anything. So, you know, I'm not saying. I'm just saying I actually don't.
Matt Jones
I appreciate the call. I mean, I don't hate that if it's really 41. I mean, you. You. You will never get Kentucky 40 to 1 before a season ever. Now, you know, we're still a long way. We have no commitments yet, but, yeah, if you felt confident that you were going to get these two guys and you wanted to have some fun, why not?
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
He's right. They get those two guys, it's going to drop way down to 10 to 1, 12 to 1 or something. So you got a chance to maybe make a little cash right now.
Matt Jones
Yeah. All right, I'll take it. 859-280-2287. Couple open lines. Let's go to Chris. Go ahead, Chris.
Caller or Listener
Yeah. Hey, fellas. How's it going?
Matt Jones
Good.
Caller or Listener
So my. My question really is kind of. Okay, so we're talking a lot about the recruits. Big news on campus today. We have the best fans in the world. We also are passionate, and that tends to come out in bad ways. Do we think that if we manage to land Stokes and Rob Wright that we quell some of the Pope hate?
Julian Edelman
Of course.
Matt Jones
I think. I think. I mean, some of it will still exist because it's the Internet and there's not any human being on earth that won't get some criticism on the Internet.
Caller or Listener
But of course.
Matt Jones
But, yes, I do think, well, okay, let's just use the people on this show. You have levels of skeptics on this show. I'm oddly not the least skeptical, even though I get probably the most grief about it. I would say Drew, who's not here, is the most skeptical. I mean, I'm not most technical. Sorry. And I think he'll be all in for next Year. Yes. I think you'll be all in for next year, Shannon. Will you be all in for next year?
Shannon
If they can even get Stokes alone.
Matt Jones
So I will be, too. Now, you know, I'm probably not going to be hanging the banner like I did in my mind last year, but I am going to be like, all right, here you go, Mark. You got your squad. Go do it. That's going to be my view, and I would say that's probably going to be the view of most of the fans.
Caller or Listener
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Appreciate the call. I don't think people are going to. I mean, I don't think people are going to be guaranteeing success, but I do think people are going to have some. Some confidence now that, like, it can happen.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Just me. I already feel it. These guys haven't even committed, but I just feel like they're. The fact that they're on campus has got me thinking that, okay, they're moving in the right direction, doing things they need to be doing to try to rebuild that roster.
Matt Jones
Do you think my first frustration, Shannon, with that first caller made everybody scared?
Shannon
Maybe so. Because somebody just called in and I said, ksr, what's your name? And they hung up and they ran away.
Matt Jones
Screamed, yeah, yeah, maybe I was a little harsh, but also, he was trying to kill my vibe.
Shannon
That's right, Buzzkill.
Matt Jones
He was trying to. Damn.
Shannon
You'll find it. Don't force it.
Matt Jones
It rained on my parade. But that's like a 1930s.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Either way, if you're one of these
Shannon
recruits, though, can you look at the banner boys and go, nope, I'm not going there. After they went through all the trouble of getting bed sheets and linen.
Matt Jones
Well, clearly the coaches, like, if they brought them by FaceTime, the guy.
Shannon
You can't say no to those guys, can you?
Matt Jones
If you're Stokes or they see and they seem like nice guys on the phone. Sigma Kai in the house. So now Donnie Freeman, Sigma chant.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Oh, I don't know.
Shannon
You're asking the wrong.
Matt Jones
Well, I was going to give a Sigma Kai.
Shannon
Should ask them while they were Sigma
Matt Jones
Kai, chicken thigh, something like that. They got. I guarantee it's that dumb. All the fraternities ones are that dumb.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
But if Donnie Freeman comes to campus this week, you know, they're going to drive him by and show him his.
Matt Jones
I think. Do you think they're driving Stokes?
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
I think they would.
Matt Jones
That's why we should have a reporter on the scene. See, if I was the. If I was the colonel, that's what I would use. I would send Someone out there and just sit on the sidewalk and wait.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Wait for them to drive by.
Matt Jones
Or the TV stations. What do they got to cover?
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
I'm sure they're probably out there today doing it.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Let's go to Trevor. Go ahead, Trevor.
Caller or Listener
Hey, guys. That first caller had a little bit of a sound of a negativity in his voice. And I think today there is no room for negativity. Today's a huge day for Kentucky basketball. And so my question and more, maybe even of a request, hypothetically, let's say Rob Wright and Tyrone Stokes are driving around in a car and the radio is playing. Or they're somewhere on campus and they're
Matt Jones
listening to AM radio. Yes.
Caller or Listener
Okay, that's right. Can we. Or somebody could send them this. Could we get maybe a 60 second good old fashioned Ryan Lemon just pump up.
Matt Jones
No, I want him to come here. I want them to come here. This would be. This would be one for like a Chester. Yes, like this would be a good Chester. Message to Tyron Stokes and Rob Wright about the sort of feeling Shannon of Kentucky basketball. Yeah, right. And why they should come here.
Shannon
Ryan gets a little aggressive sometimes.
Matt Jones
It's a little aggressive. And I don't trust him not to talk about things that would freak them out. You need to know Ryan, right?
Shannon
Yeah, yeah.
Matt Jones
That your intro to Ryan cannot be a motivational.
Shannon
You have to know that deep down he's good hearted.
Matt Jones
You don't know that.
Shannon
Like crazy.
Matt Jones
So who.
Caller or Listener
What.
Matt Jones
What are the best ways outside of Nil money? You probably would like. I mean they're young guys. So sorority houses, like if they nice for Sigma Kai'd be nice if the sorority houses. That would be good if they put
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
them up right there on I don't
Matt Jones
know what the sororities. I bet they have tried out. Right. What else is there? Something with a pie.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Kappa Delta.
Matt Jones
All right. I guess that maybe. But my point is that would be one. Then I would want, I think like somewhere where they eat.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Where they were taking them to lunch or something. Then have it like. I know the football recruits used to love when Vince would welcome into KS Bar and everybody. Because Vince used to. He would call me in advance and he would say, I got six guys coming. I appreciate the call, by the way. And I would get on the microphone and I would say, all right, here's who's coming. When they walk in. Vince would walk in first and if you've been there during the game, they. Everyone would cheer. He'll bring them in for a pregame basketball crowd. Right.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yep.
Matt Jones
I wish we could have a moment like that. Although these guys, you know, would they like it or not? But like Rob Wright at byu, he'd have to like as he doesn't get that.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Correct.
Matt Jones
Stokes may get have gotten it in his life but Rob Wright's probably never gotten that.
Caller or Listener
Yeah.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Here we are in April. It'd be tough to try to get relive what it's like when you walk into a place and during basketball season or football season.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage.

So we can hook you up with a loan officer of Stockton Mortgage. Matt Jones
yeah, the whole crowd did sing this. Like, I, I, I'm kind of a sucker, Shannon, for when huge crowds, especially stadium crowds.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Sing a song with the artist, right?
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I think it's kind of beautiful if the song is good. So even though I didn't. I mean, I've heard this song, but I didn't really know it when everybody was singing this, it actually was. You know, you get kind of chill, Shannon, when you do that, right?
Julian Edelman
Yeah.
Shannon
Even if you don't necessarily like the song. Hearing everybody sing that. And I hate to admit it, like, when it comes to sports, but Kansas with the rock, Chalk J.
Matt Jones
Yes. No, that's the very. Oh, that's right. The haunting, like Tom Petty, Learning to Fly has become my favorite song of his because I heard the version where he was singing it in Gainesville at Florida Stadium, and the crowd then takes over and sings for him, and he almost sings accompanying the crowd.
Caller or Listener
And.
Matt Jones
And it's. It's become my favorite song of his. And I always liked it. But, like, that version just sends chills up my spine, Shannon.
Shannon
You know, so now you're a Zach Brian fan, you're gonna go out and buy.
Matt Jones
I mean, I, I don't. I will. I would if I knew the names of the songs I heard. Yeah, I will listen to the fast ones, but the slow ones. I honestly, at one point I looked at Max and I'm like, how long is this song? And he's like, these are like three songs.
Shannon
Like a medley.
Caller or Listener
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Because they all just kind of sounded the same to me after a while. But. But that's fine. I mean, people loved it. People were loving it. And I also have to give a shout out to Cardinal Stadium. Had the best pretzel I've ever had.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Really?
Shannon
That's pretzel?
Matt Jones
Well, you know me. I hate lines.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yeah.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I ain't standing in any line. The lines were atrocious for everything.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
The only line that had no, no, things were Ben's pretzels, because all they had was pretzels. I think it was Ben's pretzels. Shout out to whoever Ben is. Doing a good job with those pretzels.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Surprise. There wasn't a line then. People didn't know they were.
Matt Jones
That was my old dinner that night was pretzel, but it was. It was very good.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
I can see why you like Zach, Brian. He's got that voice kind of that
Matt Jones
I just spent 20 minutes saying I don't like it. I've never heard any of his music.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
No, I'm saying I'm surprised you don't like.
Matt Jones
Oh, surprise you don't.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yeah.
Matt Jones
It just never. I think it was because everybody would always. When he came up, they were like, this guy's just like Tyler. And then I heard a song and I was like, he's not really like Tyler. And so then I just decided I didn't like him because of that. But maybe it's not fair to it. Although apparently people keep writing me and saying he's not a good dude. But I'm not making judgment. I don't know the person. Kirby, go ahead. Kirby.
Caller or Listener
Hey, good morning, man. First time, long time caller. Hey, been going back and listening to those shows. So all this stuff going on, who do we depend on on Facebook? Ksr, Kentucky insider, cats coverage? Who do we follow there?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I don't know what the la. What the last one you said is. I mean, obviously I'm going to say ks Cat covered. Yeah, I don't know what that is. KSR would obviously. I mean, where would be the one. Here's what you have to be careful with. There are people out there and I'm not saying that about any of these people because I don't know who you're talking about. But there are people out there who will see other information, not confirm it, put it out, and then people take that as a confirmation. And then sometimes you have to go, well, where did the original piece of information even come out? I will tell you this. I only know the standard for me, Jack Jacob, I can't speak for Ryan because I was in Europe or when I was in Amsterdam, he took a different strategy. But I'm not putting it out with confirmation unless I know it's happening. And that's why I often won't put stuff out. Everybody else does because I. If I don't hear it, I'm not going to do it.
Caller or Listener
And one more, one more thing. I've been going back and your information on that blueprint thing, I was going to ask that question a few weeks ago, but that was great. And I've been looking on Kentucky website. I think it's something awesome and everything. It looks good like that.
Matt Jones
I didn't know.
Caller or Listener
And then.
Matt Jones
Wait, just say before you go there, I didn't know that on your Twitter, Ryan, there's a place where people who don't know you can write messages. Did you know that?
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
No.
Shannon
Like a request.
Matt Jones
Yes. I didn't know that was there. So I just looked at those the other day and it's got a lot of people, I wouldn't want it. But then there's like a lot of people I might have wanted to talk to that have written me in there and I didn't know. And one of them was the CEO of that blueprint wanting to explain what it was. So maybe we'll get him on at some point to do that, but go ahead. What's your next thing?
Caller or Listener
Yeah, the one more thing was on Jeff Goodman on X other week, he listed these prices for top 25 Porter players. Big man, point guards, wings. Big man was 4 to 5 million point guards, 3 to 4, wings, 2 to point, 5 to 3. And I, I, I mean I'm old school, but yet you've been saying, you know, people can lose jobs and people fired and people move. I've been agreeing with all that stuff. But the one thing with some of these contracts, say like an older Kirk Cousins, he's going to the Raiders with an incentive package. These kids have never made this money before. Yeah, but do you start bringing in college players? I know, but do you bring in these college players based on incentives?
Matt Jones
But you can't do, you know things until you were. Look, I am for all things that they do in the NBA, NFL, baseball, that has been refined over 90 years. And those contracts make a lot of sense. So you're right, Kirk Cousins gets all these incentives. But here's the problem, and it's a good question. Why can't they do that in college basketball? Because we still will not accept that these kids are employees. The schools do not want these kids to be employees for a variety of reasons. Because of that.
Caller or Listener
No, I think they need to be employed.
Matt Jones
Then once they do that, then you can have a collective bargaining agreement and you can do the things like you're talking about, sir, have multi year contracts and have, and have incentives. All of those things are possible, but you have to treat them as employees. If you do not treat them as employees under current law, it's the wild west of capitalism. Right, so, so I will use this argument not to get political, but I do think it's important. A lot of times people say I want the government to stay out of the economy. Right? A lot of people say that, sure. And I understand why they say it. You want to know what the economy would look like if there was no government, go look at nil in college sports because there are no rules, there's no protections for the athletes, there's no protections for the colleges, there's no protections for anybody. It is literally free market capitalism at its most pure. And so I would say I want there to be rules, but until you call them employees, I think it's going to be impossible to have rules that will withstand courts for the most part.
Caller or Listener
Yeah, I agree with that because I mean, it's like Jayden, nothing against Jaden last year, but if he didn't play, he shouldn't have made that much money. But like you said, he's not an employee. So it's not incentive based. So I get it. I'm just trying to figure out, you know, how do you base a big man at 4 to 5 million?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I don't know. And I also would say Jeff would know more about those amounts. I appreciate the call. Than I would. I do think, Ryan, I always will think the numbers are somewhat exaggerated because as we've talked about both sides, the school and the player and the agent, they all have incentives to exaggerate.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
They want to inflate that number because it'll help them when they do go to the negotiating table.
Matt Jones
But do I think guys, there are guys who will get four or five million dollars? Yes.
Caller or Listener
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And there might even be one or two on campus right now. So we'll take a break. Be right back. KSI, TJ Smith, personal injury attorney.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Call tj.
Shannon
He'll make him pay. Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Yeah, the crowds went nut for the nuts for this one too. Yeah. Shannon, these guys just look like regular dudes. Like they did not look like rock singers to me.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yeah, yeah.
Matt Jones
They just look like guys you'd see on the street. Like it looked like I could be up there, you know, because a lot of times you see musical acts, you're like, well, that dude's a lot cooler than I.
Shannon
Right. Get all the tattoos.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Oh, he's like, okay, Yeah, I couldn't do that. But like I looked up there and I was like, if I knew how to do any of these things, I could be up there with those guys.
Caller or Listener
There you go.
Shannon
Well, I mean, half of us though, looking the part, but they don't look.
Matt Jones
They just look like guys. Well, they look like a bunch of 40 something year old guys.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Which is what I guess they are.
Shannon
People love them. I was just surprised they were opening up for Zach. Brian. I Mean, it's sort of a.
Matt Jones
Well, Zach Brian, I think, has a song with him. He came out and sang with him on a song.
Shannon
Yeah, that's why.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
That's the connection. That seemed like an odd combo. Kings and Leon opening for Zach Brian.
Matt Jones
One person said, let's be honest with ourselves, Matt. You didn't like Zach Brian because people were telling you is like Tyler music or Tyler Childers, and you feel like you found his music and that made you.
Caller or Listener
He's.
Matt Jones
You're. Yes. That's a good call. Text of the day, if we used to do that. I didn't find Tyler, but I feel like I did because I saw him right before he broke out. Yeah. Lots of people in Kentucky saw him for. I did, though.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
But this guy, I think, has that kind of. That Tyler sound a little bit.
Matt Jones
Not exactly, but it's a little in the ballpark.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
In the ballpark.
Matt Jones
I had Rich Eisen on ESPN yesterday. Yeah, that was very cool. If you get a chance, the Matt Myron Hour 3, you could download. We interviewed him, and it was great. He talked about what it was like to work at SportsCenter in its heyday, talked about radio a lot. I geeked out a little bit. He acted like he knew who we were, and I enjoyed that as somebody who grew up, you know, was he
Shannon
one of the originals or.
Matt Jones
He wasn't one of the originals. He came on in 96 or 90 something, 95 with. He was kind of the Stuart Scott part.
Shannon
Yeah. So, like, that second wave, he's kind
Matt Jones
of Wave two, you got. Wave two. One is like, Dan Patrick, Keith. Well, you got like, Chris Berman and those guys. Then I think wave two is like, you know, Keith Overman, Dan Patrick. Then I think there's another wave that Stuart Scott, Rich Eisen, Scott Van Pelt, Kenny Maine. Kenny Maine, I think, is more than the first one. Along with, like, Craig Kilborn.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yeah.
Person giving directions
Great.
Matt Jones
Gilboy. I think Eisen's in the kind of Stuart Scott. Scott. Scott. Van Pelt. Charlie Steiner was in the original.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yeah. Yeah. I've never met Rich Eisenberg. Says he's a great guy. Did he come across that way?
Matt Jones
Couldn't have been nicer to us. I mean, again, it was on the radio.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And he was like, look forward to seeing you guys soon. And I was like, he would see
Shannon
me the first time.
Matt Jones
We've never met.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Are they bringing him back to Sports
Matt Jones
center soon about seeing me the first time? Yeah, well, he hosted it last night. They did a throwback.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Okay.
Matt Jones
And they used the old graphics yeah. Did the old intros. You know how they used to make intros with, like, puns and stuff?
Shannon
Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
He did one of those. You should hear. It was funny. He like, voiceover and. Yeah, it was cool.
Caller or Listener
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I didn't watch all of it, but I watched a few.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
I thought I saw something. He's going back to the sports center desk. I didn't know what it was about.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So it was. It was for Myron and I both. We were kind of. You know, it was kind of nice.
Caller or Listener
Yeah.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
I saw you retweeted something where somebody called you and Myron the best show on radio.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean. Yeah, Shannon, that you should retweet.
Shannon
Yeah, we'll retweet.
Matt Jones
I mean, it's one that people say about Kentucky that's very nice, but we'll have a lot of people say it. But most people don't even know I'm on.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
On a national level. That's.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they don't know who I am. So if somebody says that, that's the easiest way. That's like. Okay. Another thing they do in concerts, they all men the city.
Caller or Listener
Huh?
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Louisville. You're the best crowd we've ever had. That's the cheapest pop in the world.
Shannon
Right?
Matt Jones
Right.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So if you tweet me and say, this is the best show. Yes.
Shannon
Although he tweeted that. Didn't he tweet that it was one of the best shows or best towns he's ever played was Louisville?
Matt Jones
He said during the concert, this is the best crowd I've ever had. And I was like, whatever. And then he tweeted it. So if you say it.
Shannon
Yeah, he probably says that every town he goes to. But to tweet it, though, now, because
Matt Jones
you can't tweet it, about every. People will go, wait a minute, dude.
Shannon
A little insincere so I could see it.
Matt Jones
I mean, that people were into it.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yeah, he's big. Started the world was at the Mountain Laurel festival concert or something. Probably.
Matt Jones
He was playing in a bar in Pie. I didn't even know Pineville had bars.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
I didn't either.
Matt Jones
I just thought they had the floco in the subway, and I guess they also have a bar. Jeff. Go ahead, Jeff.
Caller or Listener
All right, let's try again. Second guy's a good golfer here with the Mulligan. I. I just think we make our own luck in this world. And I. And I see Pope changing his luck, bringing in Keegan with the roster. Very intentional shoot past dribble guys that have been on Our list, the new fanatics deal. Hopefully we can leverage that for Stokes, and then you've got the energy and the swag of Mo, and I think we clean up this week.
Matt Jones
I think. I think those are really good points. I mean, we'll see about Keegan Brown. I don't know anything about him. Mo Williams brings a swagger and a coolness that this staff didn't have. I appreciate the call. I'll use. I use this example with. With somebody yesterday I was talking to about this. Mo Williams is this staff's Mario, and I'm serious about that. We needed to be a little cooler. Mario makes us a little cooler. Mo. Mark Pope needs to be a little cooler. I think it's fair to say. Shannon not the coolest dude in the world. Mark Fox not the coolest dude in the world. Cody figure not the coolest. I'm not criticizing him. I'm not the coolest dude in the world. You bring in Mario adds some young cool factor. Mo's not as young, but he's just. If you remember him from. He just has a swagger to him. I mean, he's just got a thing that's probably helpful. That may have been a weakness this staff needed.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
And that connection he's got with Stokes, I'm sure added to his ability to bring him down to campus for a
Matt Jones
visit this week without question. Joella, go ahead. Joella.
Caller or Listener
Hello?
Matt Jones
Yes, ma'. Am.
Joella
Hey. I was just gonna say I wrote in this morning on a flight with Tyler Stokes, and he was just a very kind young man.
Matt Jones
Tyrone Stokes.
Joella
Forward to seeing if.
Matt Jones
Tyrone Stokes. Yeah, don't call him Tyler, but. So you were on the flight? Okay. See, this is what I love, Shannon. This is BB and is its best. They're on the flight. Where was the flight from?
Joella
Well, now we. I'm assuming he was on my flight. I got a picture with him here at Bluegrass Airport, but we flew in from Atlanta.
Caller or Listener
We had.
Joella
If we flew in from Atlanta.
Matt Jones
Joella, can you send us the picture?
Joella
Oh, sure.
Matt Jones
Okay, I'll tell you what. You're gonna hang on. At the end of this, call, give Shannon your number, or Shannon will give you a number to text it to. Okay.
Joella
Okay, I'll be glad to, but yes, I'm really excited. I got to meet him.
Matt Jones
All right, well, good. And so he was. What did you say to him?
Joella
I just. He was taking a picture with another lady, and I didn't even ask for a picture, but he came over and took one with me, and he didn't
Matt Jones
even ask For a picture. He just walked up to you and gave a picture?
Joella
He. He. He walked up to me because I had offered to give a picture to the lady.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Joella
She actually. She wrote. She sat beside him the whole way home.
Matt Jones
Gotcha.
Joella
And so I said, I'll take your picture. And then he just came over and took one with me and did a selfie with me.
Matt Jones
Well, you could, you know, you could have just taken a picture. Joella. With a future NBA number one pick. Imagine if you had a picture with LeBron as he got off the plane in high school. Or Anthony.
Shannon
No, these guys had a picture with Joella.
Joella
We left from Hawaii yesterday, so I'm a little bit jet. But let me tell you something. I told him. I said, go, uk we got a sign. We got a sign.
Matt Jones
Hang on. And then you can send Shannon the picture, and we'll go from there. Okay? All right. I appreciate it. How about that humble brag?
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
We just flew in from Hawaii. Hawaii. My picture was.
Matt Jones
You're focused on. That was the kindest lady, and she was excited, and she's sending a picture, and you're gonna. Are a humble bragger. Why would you do that? What is. What is with you today?
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
I don't know.
Matt Jones
Yellow.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Yeah.
Matt Jones
That was not good, Joella.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
That was not good.
Matt Jones
What is that with you? Who peed in your Cheerios? Oh, I can't say that I get to say it. You don't.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
I'm on probation.
Caller or Listener
Who.
Matt Jones
Who did that?
Caller or Listener
Who?
Matt Jones
I. Why are you in such a.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
It's Monday. It's great day.
Matt Jones
All right, Shannon, when you get the picture, let me know. We'll verify if it's. If it's him. Bluegrass, Go ahead. Bluegrass ass.
Caller or Listener
Oh, Lord. Fellas, you might have caught me at the wrong time. I'm taking a shower.
Matt Jones
All right, let's go to Dave. Dave, go ahead. I'm not taking calls from naked men in showers that work in a shower. Dave. Go ahead, Dave.
Caller or Listener
Great call on your part, Matt. Listen, hear me out real quick, okay? I kind of feel like when you were talking about, you know, folks calling out the fan bases, you were kind of calling me out because I make some comments. But just hear me out real quick. The frustration that you had with the first caller today is the same thing that I get every time I open a post. And I'm not saying it's the entire fan base. We have a wonderful fan base, but we have the largest number of knuckleheads that have something negative to say about anything of any fan base in the country that's why I get so frustrated.
Matt Jones
I agree to some extent. I agree with you. I can't read the comments to my posts. Like, like if, like when I wrote that Trent Noah was coming back, the comments to my post on Twitter, honestly were shameful. But you also have to remember, it's like 20 people, most of them are anonymous. And remember the piece of advice I've said many times that I have to remind myself all the time, if you are a happy human being, would you go on Twitter and reply to a person and be a jerk? Because if you were happy, you wouldn't know. So that means that person isn't happy. And so let's just hope things get better for him. With that said, though, I understand what you're saying. Like, but you just, just don't read the comments, find the UK fans that bring you joy or the media and follow those people and just try to ignore the others. Because I get it. Like, but if, but I get why that would be frustrating.
Caller or Listener
Yeah, I think. And I think what really frustrates me is, you know, there was a point in time when I would have thought there's no way that what people say on social media would actually have a detrimental effect on whether or not kids would want to come here. But you know what? Those kids and their families, especially in this day and age, everything matters. Everything is now. I mean, everybody reads everything. I think that's the frustrating point.
Matt Jones
You're right. I appreciate the call. I think the thing is though, I just don't want. I appreciate the call. I don't want the message to be we do it and other people don't, because the other people do it too. But it can be depressing. Like yesterday, so much good news. I just didn't read my comments for 10 hours. I was like, I'm gonna be in a positive mood. That's better. Be like on KS board where there are some negative people, but there's more people having real conversation. There's a group chat. Somebody put me in that's got a lot of fans that are really excited and they're not, they're kind of fun. Right? So I'm not going to be like. Once I see the sense of gloom and doom, and that's probably why I jumped on that caller earlier, is I. Why be doomy today? If we don't get either of these guys, then be doomy. But right now we got the number two quarterback in America and we got the two best players we've had visit here in the Pope era are both
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
here we need to be celebrating having a party today. But the guy said, like, there's just a couple knuckleheads. Just ignore the knuckleheads, all right?

Matt Jones
There she is. And she's got a Hawaii T shirt on.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Here we go. That's definitely him.
Matt Jones
He's got braces, right? Does he have braces? Are you sure, Mario? Because I want to put this out.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
That's him.
Matt Jones
I won't put this out and then not be him.
Shannon
The other pictures. He doesn't have braces.
Matt Jones
Are you sure? He has braces.
Shannon
He just got it.
Matt Jones
That him?
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
That's him.
Matt Jones
You promise?
Shannon
Maybe he just got braces.
Matt Jones
All right, text Joelle real quick and ask her if she's okay. If I put that up, will you do that?
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right, we'll take a break. Be right back.

Shannon
It seems like new. New braces and everything.
Matt Jones
Yeah. See we. We have some breaking news. Shit.
Shannon
Oh, hang on.
Matt Jones
One in. Jalen Lowe has committed to Georgetown in dc. You think it was because he saw him beat us in that game and he was like, that's right.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
He didn't get to play in that game. He just watched it, didn't he?
Matt Jones
Yeah, he didn't. He did not play.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
He didn't play that game because that was.
Matt Jones
We were like, well, I mean we lost to them but we didn't have Jalen Love.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
So I hope they design their offense perfect for.
Matt Jones
I actually think that's perfect for him. I mean like that's a perfect school for him because he can, he can shoot a lot and he can run the. I actually think that's. That's a really like a smart choice for him.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
He's a definitely a ball dominant point guard.
Matt Jones
So he needs to go to a school that's cool with him doing that. Yeah, I think if you. If I, if I'm him, that's. That's a really good choice. So I wish him the best. By the way, before I go these calls. The weather's warming up. Days are getting longer. Golden hours calling cornbread infused seltzers. You got up on Threads.
Matt Jones
KY Sports radio. I mean I had it, but I actually posted a couple of times. Okay, so we'll put news out on all those things. Today, just keep hitting refresh today. I think this is a refresh day.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Seems like it has been a while. So we've had one of these days where you're just constantly refreshing to see something hit.
Matt Jones
Yeah. All right, let's go to Tim. Go ahead, Tim.
Caller or Listener
Matt, my girlfriend describes me to people that she doesn't know as he's the type of guy that likes to call talk radio show. And I don't think that's. And I don't think that's a compliment. You know, people in her family. It's bad, man.
Matt Jones
Maybe she doesn't mean it.
Caller or Listener
She's listening.
Matt Jones
But, you know.
Caller or Listener
No, she means it like that, but she listens.
Matt Jones
Right.
Caller or Listener
I, you know, and when I tell her too. You know, when we started dating, she didn't know the difference between a basketball and a football and she didn't understand why every football player didn't want to be the quarterback. That being said, Matt, so let me, let me. Flying him in commercial is an awful look where I'll assure you that he flew to Lawrence, Kansas, private, because there is no Airport for 300 miles.
Matt Jones
I don't think you're allowed to fly guys in private, are you?
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
And he had to pay his own ticket on this one, right?
Matt Jones
Yeah. So the. Regardless though. But they couldn't do it. He had already taken an official visit. And that's actually one of the only rules the NCAA enforces is one official visit per school.
Caller or Listener
Let me ask you this. Under Cal, we had the auto collective with Bluegrass Motorsports. And I'm thinking we don't have that anymore because what these kids. Let's not fool ourselves. They are seven month mercenaries. And right now it is about the money. So this $5 million in cash, I
Matt Jones
don't think you have to show this
Caller or Listener
kid 5 million in cash and say here's what we offer. Here's 3 million. Here's what Kansas is offering. That's the difference.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I appreciate the call. They don't. They. The car thing. Yes. They used to get to drive cars back when they couldn't get money. But now the car companies just give them the car directly as you saw with Jasper Johnson's truck. So I don't think the car part is an issue. Clint, go ahead. Clint.
Caller or Listener
Oh, first time caller.
Matt Jones
Who are.
Caller or Listener
Who are. I got a buddy. I would. I would call him a cow guy. That's what he refers to. So Marcus Pope is what I call him. What. How many studs does Mark Pope have to land this week to have make him have a little hope in Pope.
Matt Jones
Well, I appreciate the call. I think he's got to have at least one, and I think if he has to, your buddy should have hope. And remember, for all the talk about Cal versus Pope, Cal's been a 30 some year, coach. Pope's been a handful a year coach. Cows made it one farther round in two years than Pope. First year they made it to the same place. This year he made the sweet 16. We made it to the round of 32. Pope beat him once. Cal beat him once. Their overall record is very similar.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Very similar.
Matt Jones
The one difference is that they won the SEC tournament title. That's really the biggest difference. So, you know, I'm not going to act like Pope's done everything we hoped, but it's not like comparing to Cal is kind of silly. All right. Be watching the news tomorrow. Maybe we know, maybe we don't.
Caller or Guest (possibly a co-host or regular contributor)
Exciting day today.
Matt Jones

Hosts: Matt Jones and KSR crew
Main Theme:
A lively, opinionated breakdown of Kentucky basketball recruiting buzz, concert stories, and the ever-passionate UK fan base, with plenty of listener calls and inside observations about UK sports and Lexington culture.
Hour 2 of KSR centers on:
“Thank God... People were stuck down there until 2 in the... 3 in the morning.” ([08:13])
“Shout out to whoever Ben is. Doing a good job with those pretzels.” ([24:08])
“When huge crowds, especially stadium crowds, sing a song with the artist ... it’s kind of beautiful if the song is good.” ([22:22])
“You will never get Kentucky 40 to 1 before a season ever.” ([10:48])
“Some of it will still exist because it’s the Internet ... but yes, I do think ... people are going to have some confidence now that, like, it can happen.” ([12:03], [12:59])
“Mo Williams brings a swagger and a coolness that this staff didn’t have... That may have been a weakness this staff needed.” ([35:31])
“We have the largest number of knuckleheads that have something negative to say ... of any fan base in the country.” ([40:20], Caller) “If you are a happy human being, would you go on Twitter and reply to a person and be a jerk? ... Let’s just hope things get better for him.” ([40:20], Matt) “Just don’t read the comments, find the UK fans that bring you joy or the media and follow those people...” ([41:21])
“The schools do not want these kids to be employees for a variety of reasons. Because of that ... it is literally free market capitalism at its most pure.” ([28:08]) “But do I think guys, there are guys who will get four or five million dollars? Yes.” ([29:55])
“Imagine if you had a picture with LeBron as he got off the plane in high school. Or Anthony.” ([38:12])
“He just walked up to you and gave a picture?” ([37:50])
On Zach Bryan’s crowd:
“I couldn't believe how many women ... I was amazed how many parents were there with their kids.”
— Matt Jones ([06:45])
On concert exit strategy:
“WrestleMania was such a traffic disaster that the governor lost his reelection.”
— Matt Jones ([09:05])
On college basketball’s NIL situation:
“It is literally free market capitalism at its most pure ... There are no rules, there's no protections for the athletes, there's no protections for the colleges, there's no protections for anybody.”
— Matt Jones ([28:08])
On fan negativity:
“We have a wonderful fan base, but we have the largest number of knuckleheads that have something negative to say ...”
— Caller ([40:20])
“If you are a happy human being, would you go on Twitter and reply to a person and be a jerk? Because if you were happy, you wouldn't know.”
— Matt Jones ([40:20])
On fan celebrations for recruits:
“I wish we could have a moment like that ... When they walk in, Vince would walk in first ... Everyone would cheer.”
— Matt Jones ([16:45])
