Julian Edelman
This is Julian from Games With Names. I want to take a second to talk about something that's personal to me. I've had the privilege of working closely with Robert Kraft for a long time, and one thing I've always respected is how seriously he takes up standing up to hate. As a Jewish athlete, my identity is something I am proud of, but I also know what it feels like to be singled out for it. That's why this new commercial for the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate that aired during the Big Game really hit home. It's about showing up for someone when they're targeted, even if you don't have the perfect words. And sometimes standing next to someone is enough. And you can show support by sharing the Blue Square.
Kohler Ambassador
When Kohler, global design leader and luxurious kitchen and bath products, asked me to be their ambassador for timeless, elegant, durable cast iron, I said, I'm in. Soon after, I was in their Kohler, Wisconsin foundry watching molten iron, poured enamel applied by hand and the beautiful finished pieces ready to ship. Since 1883, Kohler cast iron has been crafted by incredible artisans and seeing it firsthand gave me a whole new appreciation for their craftsmanship. Now I am proud to lend my stamp of approval to my favorite Kohler cast iron products for their durability, beauty and enduring style. this is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome everyone. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Tuesday, April 14th. I am Matt Jones here in Lexington, Kentucky. We are at the ST Studio. You can give us Clark's pump and Shop phone line 859-280-280. 2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is ready for you today. 772-774-5254. In this dish and sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office. If you call TJL, make them pay. Ryan Lemon is here along with Shannon. Still no news on Drew. I keep. Everybody keeps asking. Even though there's a lot of recruiting people ask about Drew. We don't. We don't have any news. I when I was going to say when we have news, we'll be the first to say if that's actually not true. Drew will be the first to say. Yeah, I'm not going to. I'm not trying to break baby scoop.
Ryan Lemond
Well, you out scoop him on his own kid.
Matt Jones
Yeah, sources say delivery. Yeah, I don't know that we need to do that.
Shannon
I texted him this morning, didn't get a reply.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, it's okay.
Ryan Lemond
He's busy.
Matt Jones
He's got things to do. They don't have to communicate with you in the moment. So. So we will. We will let you. Shannon is here as well and we got a lot of stuff to get to. The citizens of Lexington got their collective. Well, I don't know how else to say this. Panties in a wad yesterday at a city meeting which I want to talk about and if I had known. How do you. When do you find out if these things happen? I would have gone. The people of Chevy Chase apparently the. The hoity toity's were all upset yesterday.
Shannon
Yeah, they don't send out an alert
Matt Jones
like I would like send an alert there be community drama so that I could go.
Ryan Lemond
Were you a part of the community?
Matt Jones
No, but I would still like to go watch it. They don't want their public. They're public meetings and we need to
Commercial Announcer
let people know they don't publicize it
Shannon
to keep the crowds down.
Matt Jones
I read stories about it. I'd like to, because I wasn't there. So I'd like to, you know, hear what, what people said. But we'll get to that. I think we have to start with the magical day of visits yesterday. Tyron Stokes and Rob Wright were here. Tyron Stokes was here all day. Rob Wright, I think came at 5 or 6 o'. Clock. He landed at 5. They were here together for a while. Um, you know, I mean, at this point in my life it is kind of strange to be like, hey, there are 18 year old and 20 year old kids on, on visits. Shannon, what's going on? Right, right. But that's how fans are. And Tyrone Stokes had lunch at Carson's. This is now twice. We. If we don't get Tyron Stokes, I think we gotta find another restaurant just like Keeneland. I love Carson's. I take my parents to Carson's.
Shannon
Love Carson's.
Matt Jones
But Shannon, we can't. If we don't get Zoom or Tyron for Carson's lunch, we might try a different lunch spot. Right?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. We're blaming it on them. It's your fault.
Matt Jones
Yes. Gotta blame it on somebody.
Ryan Lemond
That's right.
Shannon
Blame it on Keeneland yesterday, on me
Matt Jones
most of the time. So now we can go to Keeneland and Carson's. I'm not sure what they did after last night. As I was going for my walk, I got an alert. Tyron Stokes was live on Instagram and he was at Rupp arena shooting on Instagram with highlights with Tom Leach meat narrating being played while he was doing it.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Do you like that? Love it.
Shannon
Absolutely love that. I think obviously it's kind of preset up by the UK have the highlight package going, but you kind of just feel like for Stokes is a, as a, you know, Even as an 18 year old kid, you gotta be excited to shoot some hoops in RUP arena even for a little bit, don't you?
Matt Jones
I would think so. I mean that's the advantage that like Duke and Kansas and those teams with an on campus arena is that's probably an easy thing to set up at Rupp. It's a whole ordeal.
Shannon
It is, right?
Matt Jones
Like they would have to. I mean if you think about what goes into him doing that, that's a lot. They have to put the basketball court down.
Shannon
Right.
Matt Jones
Because wasn't like who was in was
Shannon
like Burke Kreisler was just there this past weekend.
Matt Jones
Shannon I can't deal with Bert Kreischer, just.
Ryan Lemond
But for the record, he's the guy. Shirt off. Right.
Matt Jones
His whole act is he takes his shirt off. Right.
Ryan Lemond
I think so.
Matt Jones
Is he ever funny?
Ryan Lemond
I've never really seen anything that he did that was funny.
Matt Jones
I've. Here's what's funny. Oh, I know he does a podcast. I don't know that I've ever heard him make a joke on the podcast on anything. It's just like as soon as I see him, his shirts off. So for people who come. Did they pay money, Shannon, just to see him take his shirt off?
Ryan Lemond
So I think Ryan's got a missed opportunity here for a career.
Matt Jones
He beat. Beat Ryan at his game.
Ryan Lemond
That's right. He kind of did.
Matt Jones
And when he takes his shirt off, like, he's kind of fat, Shannon. But it's not like. It's not like you would just crack up fat.
Ryan Lemond
No, it's like, you know, it's a little bit of a dad bod, which I guess he's trying to show off.
Matt Jones
I don't. I really don't. Anyway, point is, he was here just here this weekend, so they had to clearly take that stage out, right. Put in a basketball court, set up the goals, which had to be specific for this because they won't be using them again, presumably until October.
Shannon
At least they're gonna leave it out for Rob Wright to shoot on today. Maybe leave it out for a couple days.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So anyway, I watched that. It was mesmerizing for about a minute or two. He. I like, you know, this is the number one player in the country, one of the top recruits of the last decade. And yet Shannon, he still only shoots half court shots. Like, he's like all.
Shannon
He's a kid.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he is. You know, you got to remember, we talk about all these people and they are ultimately kids because he gets out there and he's like, all right, I'm gonna shoot half court shot.
Ryan Lemond
That's what I would have done at 18.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, you're not going to work on drills. No, no.
Ryan Lemond
I'm gonna do a layup line.
Matt Jones
You're just gonna.
Ryan Lemond
Maybe some dunks, you know, maybe.
Matt Jones
I think he dunked once or twice. Yeah. But I stopped watching. I actually got kind of bored. But he was on there for a while, went live so people could see it.
Shannon
And maybe I've missed it. I've not known Kentucky to do that in the past.
Matt Jones
I don't know of them doing it now. That doesn't mean they've never done it, but I don't know.
Shannon
I don't either.
Matt Jones
I think it seems like a, you know, a pretty cool idea. Right. And then this morning got a text message on the text machine from someone who was at the airport. We've had good airport spotters, real good airport spotters. Matt and crew this morning arrived at the airport when Tyron Stokes was being dropped off. I was shocked. He wasn't in a limo, Escalade or large vehicle. He wasn't accompanied by the coaches. He got dropped off by a guy to beat up blue Kia. Well, I said hi to him and asked him if he had a good day in Kentucky yesterday. He said yeah, with not much expression. I then followed up, well, we are glad you came and hope you come back. He nodded and put his head over the head. I'm interesting enough. I'm flying to Denver. And then he said he was on his. That guy Stokes was on his way to Denver too. Now the reason a coach didn't accompany him for the record, is you can't do pickup drop off on unofficial visits. So the coaches actually would not be allowed to because he didn't already did his official visit.
Shannon
He's got like a manager or somebody.
Matt Jones
I mean I might have went maybe we ordered the Uber. Tried not to get a Kia.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Isn't there like an upscale Uber you can order?
Matt Jones
Well, I think there's Uber black.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
An Uber xl.
Shannon
He is six, seven, right?
Matt Jones
Yeah. I, I don't know about the key. It feels like if we're allowed to. At least it was blue.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I don't know if we just send them off in the Kia.
Shannon
A beat up Kev.
Matt Jones
I would have driven.
Ryan Lemond
Not a great lasting impression.
Shannon
Yeah. They could have called you.
Matt Jones
You could have come, picked a new car. It's clean at this moment.
Shannon
There we go. Take advantage.
Matt Jones
But so yeah, the blue key. Maybe not. Maybe not the send away we were looking for. But besides that, hopefully it went well. Now this morning, Kristen Peak was on the Tom Leach show.
Shannon
Right.
Matt Jones
Shannon, you produce this Tom Leach. So we heard some things online about what she said. What? What did you get the gist of what she said? Kristen Peak, for people who don't know, is the NBA.com reporter who's had all the Tyron Stokes scoop here recently.
Ryan Lemond
What did you say is that he was selling off his Adidas stuff that he got from other schools.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So when he went to. When he hates. She said he hates Adidas clothes and shoes.
Ryan Lemond
Kentucky being a Nike school. You think that it doesn't matter that much, but it does to these players.
Matt Jones
Tyrone Kansas is in Adidas.
Ryan Lemond
Right. So. And also being in Rupp arena, getting some shots up, maybe trying to fill the vibe, be comfortable playing there. That's a good thing.
Matt Jones
But she also said that he was going to take two weeks, right?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, yeah.
Matt Jones
He's taking the Donald Trump, everything is two weeks away view.
Shannon
Yeah. She's like for his far. Kentucky fans are concerned, you can rest. It'll be all be over in a couple of weeks.
Matt Jones
Couple weeks, yeah. Which gets to, I think the main question, can Kentucky wait a couple of weeks? This is a common thread that comes in recruiting all the time. Here is exactly what I've seen happen for the last 20 years. And it probably happened the 20 years before. I just wasn't following it as closely. In the last 20 years. A top recruit comes visits or whatever and then people say something to the effect of, well, we gotta move on. You know, this person we can't wait on.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And inevitably my answer to that question is always why? No, we don't. But I don't know about this year. This year might be a little different because this is a very unique situation. It's not just saving a roster spot for him, Shannon, if it was just saving a roster spot for him, you do it, sure. And you wait as long as you need to. But in this case, they're saving five, six million dollars and it has to be used by someone. And if it's not used by him, it's got to be used by somebody. And if you wait a long time and then don't get him, the other people you would spend this money on may have found another opportunity already committed to somebody else. Because they are other people offering them money.
Shannon
Yes.
Matt Jones
Right. Maybe a similar amount of money. And he needs good players. Mark Pope and Tyron Stokes is a great player, but there are other good players out there and he needs some of them. So what do you do? What do you do if you're Mark Pope and the kid? Let's just say Kristen Peake is right and the kid needs two weeks.
Shannon
What do you do in Pope's situation? This is just my opinion. He's the number one player in the country. You need to make some sort of splash. I think that may be the one time you might wait on a kid, might be him.
Matt Jones
But then what do you do if in two weeks he picks Kansas?
Ryan Lemond
Now you got an extra five or six million dollars to spend on, but
Matt Jones
there may be nobody left. I would say most of the great players from the portal will be gone by two.
Shannon
Two weeks.
Matt Jones
Maybe not all, but most.
Shannon
And what if, like, Rob Wright says, man, I need to take a couple more visits. You got to wait on him, too.
Matt Jones
I know their hope was that at the end of today, because right. Is still on campus. Yeah, they would know. And there's obviously still chances they could know.
Shannon
I mean, on him, they would know. On him.
Matt Jones
I think they wanted to know on both or at least have enough of a sense on Stokes if it was worth waiting. I know they want to get right done today. I feel like if Wright does not commit by the time we do this show tomorrow, that's a bad sign, in my opinion, because they want to get him and him not go anywhere else. So I would think you gotta want to have this today. Other people are even suggesting that, like, it was all but done and he was just coming here to make sure he didn't hate it.
Shannon
That's good info.
Matt Jones
But that means we got, like, if we get here tomorrow, we don't have it, then you start to get nervous.
Shannon
See, that's good to hear you say that. That was my worry, that he would come in and say, man, you're my first visit. I still got to take a couple more visits.
Matt Jones
Well, I'm waiting again. He might. But I would not interpret that as a good sign if he does that. I would interpret that as a bad sign. And I also know they had all. They've got all these visits set up, but a lot of them were like, if. If Stokes and Wright were to commit, they might cancel some of those.
Shannon
Yeah, there were, like, a lot of backup plans, it seemed like.
Matt Jones
But if the backup plans become the primary plans, you know, then you might not be able to take. So I actually don't envy Pope here. This is a tough, tough navigation on
Shannon
a make or break season for him.
Matt Jones
I think Stokes has. They've always hoped. I think they've always had more hope than the fans and the general public have had. I think UK has always believed they have a much better chance than probably Joe Q public thought. But now the rubber meets the road and he left. And that staff is probably meeting today and they're going to decide do we feel like we got enough of a shot. And only they know. I mean, they were with him. Right. We weren't. We're guessing. They might be guessing too, but they're educated guessing, so we'll see. Jeff Goodman yesterday still said he felt like Kansas was a heavy favorite, but I don't know that Jeff Goodman knows. I'm not sure anyone knows this kid is. I give him credit. He's one of the few kids in history who's really kept it close to the vest.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Nobody knows.
Shannon
Only leaks were coming from that.
Matt Jones
I don't think there are any leaks. I don't. I think she. She interviewed him, but did she know him before this?
Shannon
I don't know.
Matt Jones
You know, I don't know. Maybe she did. Did she say. Does she have some sort of relationship with the family or anything? She.
Ryan Lemond
Not that I'm aware of.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So I. I just think like, Mo
Shannon
Williams has the relationship with his people
Matt Jones
and maybe Mo Williams will know.
Shannon
Maybe he'll.
Matt Jones
Here's what I hope Mark Pope did or Mo Williams. Listen, man, if you ain't going to come here, just let us know. But we'll see. I do think Rob Wright today is crucial. I think if Rob Wright leaves here and very soon after, there's not a commitment, that ain't a great sign. And we may be looking at a lot of backup options. One of the great things about getting everybody excited about these banners, everybody taking pictures, all that is it was awesome yesterday. And we'll talk more about it. But a downside is if you get everybody's hopes up, Shannon, it doesn't happen.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, that's. That's going to be the worst part.
Matt Jones
So we'll see. See. 859-280-2287 we'll take a break. We'll talk more about what happened yesterday. And some other stuff. Is ksr.

One person writes Matt, I did see Tyrone and they sent a picture too. I'm not gonna post a picture because it was like one in the trees. But I did see Tyrone walking around campus. He was with Mo. They were laughing the whole time. It was cool to see. That's good news.
Shannon
That's good news because they have a relationship already. So I mean trying to foster that in a convincing to come over here.
Matt Jones
So I walked by the the house yesterday with the, with the banners. That was cool. They, the dudes were standing on the porch from what I like all day. They had media in and out all day. Mario was there. Mario, come on. Just a second for just use that one. What, what, what was it like when you went over there?
Mario
It was a lot of fun. They had a lot of energy and they're really nice dudes.
Matt Jones
Were they? They seemed really excited about all this.
Mario
Oh yeah, they like you said they stood out on the porch when I drove past them the first time. They was there the whole time? Yeah, just the dude.
Matt Jones
I drove at like 4:30 and there was a TV crew there and I just rolled my window down and said hi and they all yelled. So I sent them all pizza last night. Yeah, but did they, did they have any other stories? Was anything else you said a lot
Mario
of media came there. It was like media was coming to in and out like Kentucky Colonel. They said they have a TV interview coming up like in the next few days. Other than that, like they just was really like excited.
Matt Jones
Well good. I liked it. I felt like when you. I felt like it was that says Shannon, what you want in the Kentucky big Blue Nation to have little scenes like that like the, the banner boy they have now, like, 2, 000 followers on Twitter.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, they've had a good 48 hours.
Matt Jones
They have had a good 48 hours.
Ryan Lemond
Like, you know, the excitement that we had early in the Cal era with some of these recruits coming in, where you would see stuff like that, we haven't really felt that in a long time.
Matt Jones
Totally agree.
Shannon
They made signs. They were standing on the streets, side of the street with their signs getting people to honk, and they drove by. I mean, I think it was a constant stream all day yesterday, but, man, I've not seen this excitement about a couple recruits in a long time. I mean, it's kind of good to feel the way we used to get about some of these recruits when they were considering Kentucky.
Matt Jones
One person writes, matt, I don't think you should have put the key a thing out. Makes us look back, people. I mean, the people, the amount of everyone. There's a group of people, they have. Everyone has become children worried about anything. Don't put that out. It makes us look bad. Like, come on, man, you can't. This is Kentucky, okay? This is Kentucky. It's just, this is how it is. Right. You know, I can't hold everyone's hand and make them feel better at every single moment.
Shannon
Yeah, you are. You're Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
You know, it's a. You want. These people want information, but only the information that makes them happy. Yeah, please, please don't give me information that's bad. Well, here's information that's bad. No, give me information that's good. And even if it's wrong, I feel better. Stop. Like, this is the real world, okay? This, you folks just have to understand, like, I'm Shannon. I'm starting to sound like the old guy. It's like back in the day, kids, but you know what I mean? Like, you should have seen what it was like when John Wall visited. Do people remember John Wall? There were cameras that followed them around. Yes, right. He. They couldn't do anything. When Anthony Davis was like, you f. Like, yesterday was awesome, but it's still not. Like, what. Like, there used to be 50 Matt Joneses, and they all used to just do like, we beat them all, so we're the last one standing. But, you know, I, I, I can't believe how soft some people have in our fan. And I'm saying this, and I'm Mr. Feelings and Emotional, and I like participation trophies. And even I'm saying to some of these younger folks, Shannon, like, buck up.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Getting dropped off of the airport and a beat Up Kia is not going to be the difference in him coming to Kentucky or not.
Matt Jones
And it's. It's funny. He gotten an Uber. It's an unofficial visit. That's the way it goes. Like, it's not. And it may not. May not have even been beat up. May have been a nice Kia. I don't know.
Shannon
Could be a brand new Kia.
Matt Jones
Brand new Kia. Have you ever driven a Kia?
Shannon
I don't think I have. Have you?
Ryan Lemond
No, I have a rental car.
Matt Jones
Yes. We drove a Kia. We drove a key on one of our roads.
Shannon
Oh, we did.
Ryan Lemond
Remember, it's a nice car. Wasn't beat up.
Matt Jones
Nice car.
Ryan Lemond
Got us.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Where we needed to go.
Matt Jones
Blake Griffin jumped over a Kia, didn't he, in the dunk contest.
Ryan Lemond
I think he did.
Caller
Yeah.
Shannon
It was blue, for crying out loud. They were smart enough.
Matt Jones
The amount of sort of like every. You know, if that kid who got to shoot at RUP arena at night by himself, who drove around campus and there were signs for him everywhere, and who's in the greatest college basketball tradition of all time and who is being offered an obscene amount of money with the shoe company that if he doesn't want to come here, then because of. It's not going to be because of a key, you know, Shannon.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And it's not going to be because somebody posted about a Kia.
Shannon
Nope.
Ryan Lemond
It was unofficial, as you pointed out. If we could have taken a limit.
Matt Jones
I have. I can't believe I'm, like, becoming. My grandfather used to say, like, we would lose a t ball game, and I would cry, and he would go, stop crying.
Shannon
Tough love.
Matt Jones
Well, part of me wants to go, hey, stop crying. If we don't get this kid, it'll stink.
Shannon
But won't be because of a kid.
Matt Jones
It ain't gonna be because of a kid. It's because he didn't want to come here. You know, Kristen Peake, by the way, has known this kid since he was 14. So, like her information.
Shannon
Okay, so she's got a relationship with the family.
Matt Jones
Got a relationship with the family. So she says a couple weeks, then. I think we'. We're probably looking at a couple weeks, Shannon. At which point, now you got to decide if you're Mark Pope, what do you do?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, and Mark Pope needs a big recruit. This is his guy to get right.
Matt Jones
I think if he wants to wait on Tyron Stokes, you wait on a fan base will be a lot more accepting of that if they get Rob right today.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Do you agree with that?
Ryan Lemond
Something to soften the Blow a little bit more, right?
Matt Jones
And then, like, he can be a great player. Then everybody can go, all right, we'll fill out the rest of the roster, and then we'll just cross our fingers and hope. Is that kind of what you think?
Shannon
That's what I would do.
Matt Jones
I think that's maybe what happens today then was big. All right. 859-280-2287. We'll take a break. Be right back. KSR TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ.
Ryan Lemond
He'll make him pay. Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. Before we go, the phones. There's more visits this week. Ryan. Okay, I'm gonna read you the names. These are the ones we've confirmed. By we, I mean either me or Jacob Polachek or Jack Pilgrim. What do you want? Why are you. Just tell me what's up.
Shannon
He's got the. On the other side.
Matt Jones
Okay. Can we do this? I'm not worried about face.
Shannon
I thought he might put you on
Matt Jones
camera, tell me to wipe stuff off my face. We're on the radio.
Shannon
I didn't want him to get on camera that way.
Matt Jones
Okay, well. But there is no. There's no camera. All right. It's just. All right, here we go. Alex Wilkins, he's from Furman, I think. Is that right? Terrence Brown from Utah. Donnie Freeman from Syracuse. Jalen Cox, Maybe he's from Firman. Somebody's from Firman. And then Magoon Guath, your guy again. Might have been. You might have been a year early. But, but, but we'll find out. All those guys are expected to visit this week, depending, of course, on these other decisions.
Shannon
You know, I thought they had him last year.
Matt Jones
You. They. Shannon, it was him that thought they had him. You said that he was going to come here last year.
Shannon
He decided to just stay at San Diego State. Maybe this is the year they get.
Matt Jones
Maybe this is the year. So those. Those are five. And there may be more. Those are just the ones that.
Shannon
Any of those guys excite you?
Matt Jones
Yeah, all of them. Well, not all of them, but Alex Wilkins, I think, can put up a lot of points. I don't. I've not seen Terrence Brown much, so I don't really know. People love Donnie Freeman. They keep. I mean, he's ranked high.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
In the list. And. Yeah. I don't. I don't know as much about Jalen Cox.
Ryan Lemond
Colgate.
Matt Jones
Colgate, yeah. No, that's. I saw him play the kid from Colgate I saw him play a game, and I liked him yesterday. But now if your team. If. Though, if they're the best two players on your team. Team that I'm not excited.
Shannon
Right.
Matt Jones
But if they are option 3 and 4 in your back court, now I'm excited. Right. So I. Or I. So I don't know. It kind of depends on where they're. Where they're. Where they are on the list. Yeah.
Shannon
Though you don't want those guys to be your top two, you got to go get.
Matt Jones
I don't think they can be your top two, because I would sit there and go, are they better than away and Aberdeen?
Shannon
No, probably not.
Matt Jones
Right now, we may not get guys better than the away and aber team, but we need to get in their ballpark and then maybe improve in the front court, because I think we can improve in the front court. I think Moreno will be better, and I think there are guys we can get that are better yellow than the yellow. Vic Garrison and Diabate, the other guys in that group, you think Donnie Freeman, I think, can be better. Magoon Gwath is maybe not better overall, but he has a skill set of protecting the rim that's better than anybody we had last year. Is.
Shannon
So they're doing all these. A lot of these visits on Zoom, but these are the guys they're actually bringing on campus.
Matt Jones
They're coming on campus.
Shannon
Gotcha.
Matt Jones
At least as of now. Okay, Peanut. Go ahead, Peanut.
Caller
Hey, how's it going, fellas?
Matt Jones
Good.
Caller
I'm gonna tell you about Bert Crusher. He's fun. He's been funny on the Kill Tony show.
Matt Jones
Yeah, okay. But, but, but, but what does he do that's so funny? He takes his shirt off?
Caller
No, well, he doesn't really do that on that show. You ever seen two Pounding or heard of it?
Matt Jones
No, I. I know what it is, but I've never watched it. I don't like that guy, whatever the main guy's name is.
Caller
Yeah, I figured. I figured.
Matt Jones
And I don't like. I mean, I. I would watch it if what's his face. The guy like Shane Gillis is on it, but I'm not watching Joe Rogan, and I'm not watching whatever little Tony mustache is.
Caller
I got to go.
Matt Jones
Go. Cat.
Ryan Lemond
First call is about.
Matt Jones
First call.
Shannon
Bert Kreischer, biggest recruiting.
Matt Jones
If he likes him, he likes him. You know what I mean? Like, you should. If you like a guy, you like a guy, he likes Bert Kreischer.
Shannon
Big news going on, and you can
Matt Jones
got what matters to them that's right, Dave. Go ahead, Dave.
Caller
Hey, guys, a couple of things. First, is there a hard deadline for high school players to commit? Also, is there a hard deadline on the portal? As far as.
Matt Jones
There's a hard deadline on. There's a hard deadline on entering the portal, but I think actually deciding. I think it can go into June, actually August. Well, is it August? August 1st. So apparently it's August 1st. According to Mario. I'll act. I think Mario, maybe he knows the rules, but entering the portal has to be by next Tuesday.
Caller
Okay, gotcha. Second thing, and I know we do whatever he wants, but why would Stokes need. I mean, this has been going on now forever. I mean, the recruiting process. Why would he need two more weeks to decide?
Matt Jones
I mean, he doesn't need. Probably doesn't need it. Probably doesn't need it. This is my read on it. My read. And I. This is with no knowledge. Okay. This is Matt Jones just reading the same stuff everybody else is. I think this kid wants to go to Kansas. Right. I think this just my read it. Well, he wants to go to Kansas. I think the money situation is better for him at Kentucky. I think the Nike situation is better for him that Kentucky. I think potentially he realizes he could be on a better team at Kentucky if Rob Wright and all these guys come, but he just likes it better at Kansas. And so you're sitting there weighing the business decision of coming to Kentucky versus just the feeling of wanting to be at Kansas. I think that's. That's just my read on it, but that's where I think it probably is.
Caller
All right, I appreciate it.
Matt Jones
Appreciate the call and maybe hoping that by the waiting the business decision gets better.
Shannon
You know, he's. He is the last one standing of all the top recruits. Everybody else committed and committed a long time ago. It does seem odd he's the number one guy and has waited this long.
Matt Jones
And if Chris Peak, who knows the family since he was 14, says that bill Self has told him, I want. I'm coming back out of retirement or, you know, I'm not retiring to coach you.
Shannon
You know, they carry a weight. Some weight.
Matt Jones
Well, it means. It's clearly what he's been told.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You know, so. But you know what, Shannon? If he comes here, I don't care if we were his first choice or not.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. The end of the day, is he
Matt Jones
here, Kentucky's first choice and he ran here.
Shannon
That's right.
Matt Jones
And Kentucky accepted him.
Shannon
Very much so.
Matt Jones
You know, if we are his second choice but we end up here, then I'm going to say, we may not have been in your. We. We may not have been in your heart at first, but Shannon will be in your heart in the end.
Caller
That's right.
Ryan Lemond
We wore you down.
Matt Jones
We wore you down.
Shannon
A guy this good, I don't care who you're.
Matt Jones
That was my hope. That was my hope in high school with every girl I talked to. Wear them down. I'll wear them down. It never worked.
Ryan Lemond
To where she's like, all right, all right. Come on.
Matt Jones
Fine. I'll take you to promote. I'll go to the prom with you. I might become a lesbian as soon as the prom ends. Mark, Go ahead. Mark.
Caller
I'm sorry. Y' all got me laughing. I appreciate you guys and what you do, so thank you for that.
Shannon
Thank you.
Caller
With Stokes and Wright being on campus together, I mean, is the staff getting them together to kind of hang out and see what.
Matt Jones
They were together last night. They were together last night. I'm not sure. You know, I saw when they were shooting in the video, I didn't see Rob Wright shooting, so maybe they did it. But I do think they were part of the reason they were both here at the stage. They were going to try to get them on campus at this, like, together at some point. Because there have been some reports, I think Kristen Peak said that Stokes wants to make sure he's playing with other good players. But we have this, like.
Caller
Yeah, you.
Matt Jones
We have this, like, chicken and egg thing. Stokes wants to see that we have good players. The other good players aren't sure about what's going to happen with Stokes. And it's like. And by the way, Kansas has the same situation. Kansas doesn't have any guys either. So both programs are kind of in a situation where they're waiting. That's why Rob Wright might be big. If we get Rob Wright and a couple other guys, we might have a more form team than Kansas will have because they don't really have anybody either right now except the Kenny kids. It. But go ahead.
Caller
A couple weeks ago, you said you like to get in your red seats at the. On the end of the aisle. And I was. Made me wander. Doesn't that get annoying when people want to come and go? You have to get up for everybody as they.
Matt Jones
I hate it.
Caller
Come in and go out.
Matt Jones
But what I hate, every time someone wants to get up, I just in my mind appreciate the call. Shannon. Stare them down. Like, why you got to get up? You just got up. But the good thing about sitting on the aisle is I don't have to stand up. I can just move my legs into the aisle and let them. Them out.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, you don't. Yeah. You don't have to be that guy, though, you're talking about because if you're on the inside, you got to be the same person.
Matt Jones
Seat one and two. I always make my guest, whoever I take, they have to sit and see two so that way they can stand up and then I just move my legs to the. And unless somebody's really large, they'll be able to get by if I do that.
Shannon
It's. It's a tight turn, right?
Matt Jones
It is a tight turn. It is. They. They're back home again tonight. Oh, the two guys are still there. You know, I've talked about these guys over the years.
Shannon
Your two guys sit by you.
Matt Jones
There's two guys across the aisle, two bald brothers. You guys have all seen them, right? You've been there, the two bald brothers. They sit across the aisle from me, one seat in front, and they've been. They go to every game. They go to more games than I do. Never speak to each other. They are the most fascinating brothers. Bald, look exactly the same. Come to the game, never speak. Ever. Shannon. Ever. I watch. They don't say words to each other. I think they're like, we've spent our whole lives together. We have nothing else to say to each other.
Ryan Lemond
It's like they're at a movie. They'll talk about it after.
Matt Jones
Here's the personalities I can tell of the two of them. One of them is very into the game.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Fist pumps, random balls and strikes calls in third inning. The other one plays Tetris a lot of the game on his phone.
Shannon
Maybe that's why they don't talk.
Matt Jones
But they don't talk. And I. And every time I come to a game, there's something. Comfort. I've never spoken to him either.
Ryan Lemond
You sure they're brothers?
Matt Jones
Oh, they look just alike. Two people can't. Like, what else are they going to be? Two guys the same age look alike. I mean, I will say this. If they are. Are a couple, no couple has ever found each other a more perfect. You know, But I think they're brothers, and I think it's kind of sweet that they're there, but it's also like, do you. They don't ever.
Ryan Lemond
You should go up and initiate conversation at the ne. If I. Matter of fact, if I get your Braves tickets, I'm going to go up and talk to them.
Matt Jones
You should. For people who get my tickets, you should. Because I'm not. I like the mystery of I'll feel you. But it makes me feel good when I see them there. Like the game I went the other night was first game I'd set in my seats for the year and I was like, okay, they're still alive.
Shannon
You know, there's something very cool about going to a ball game with your brother all those years, but even if you don't speak. But that's the weird part. It's cool they're going, but how can you go and sit by your brother for a couple hours and watch a ballgame and not even say what? Hey man. Hey, Mario. That's a great.
Matt Jones
I challenge you. If you all go see if they speak. They won't ever. The weather's warming up. Days are getting longer. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-774-5254. They're talking about moving the Preakness back a week. You like that?
Shannon
I've been hearing this for 30 years,
Matt Jones
but this time now, they may be doing it because the TV stations may be making it finally.
Shannon
I mean, it's the only smart thing to do. You know, people are not competing in the Triple Crown because they're afraid there's not enough time between the Derby and the Preakness. Okay, just move it back one week and it might make a difference.
Matt Jones
I have always thought they should do it because you know what? Times change.
Shannon
Yes.
Matt Jones
I hate when people are, like, throughout history, it's been two or five weeks. Like, so what?
Ryan Lemond
These horses are soft these days.
Matt Jones
Okay, fine. They are. You know what? So what? The Preakness is a joke. Every year, the Derby winner goes and no one else go.
Shannon
Right.
Matt Jones
So it's not good. So you got to make it good. And if that means another week, everybody will get over it. And then I realized that until 1969, they did it diff. The Preakness and the Belmont were different weeks every year. The Derby was the only one that said some years. The Belmont was before the Preakness.
Shannon
Yes, I do remember. I've heard that.
Matt Jones
And sometimes the Belmont would be in July. So why are we wedded to a history that's not even that much of a history. I guess Citation won it, and there was like, a month in between each one. And everybody knows. I mean, I drove on Citation yesterday. Everybody can. So I just. I don't understand. Times change. The desire to not change just for the sake of not changing is something that is baffling to me.
Shannon
You know, horse people are there. Pretty pretentious. I know. They need to.
Matt Jones
They got to get over it. I mean, the Derby is massive. But the Preakness and the Belmont have moved off America's radar, in part because unless there's a Triple Crown person at the horse at the Del Belmont, people don't follow it, pay attention. So you need to do everything you can to make it to where that can happen.
Shannon
Yes.
Matt Jones
If the Preakness. If all the good horses are in the Preakness, then people will watch it just for that reason.
Shannon
Sure they will. Like, the horse purists would love that.
Matt Jones
Then you go to the Belmont. Yes. You're going to need a Triple Crown horse. So let's do whatever to make that as possible as we can. If.
Shannon
For the betterment of the sport, do it.
Matt Jones
I just.
Shannon
These.
Matt Jones
The people who are just, like, did
Caller
well,
Matt Jones
say la Vie.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Right. We always used to have records, and then we decided to move to eight tracks and then cassettes and then CDs, and now it's digital. And next they'll just put the song in your brain, Shannon. And you won't even have to have anything, pretty much.
Ryan Lemond
Although records are cool again. Yeah. It's weird how technology just comes back to where it was 30 years ago.
Matt Jones
We like the simpler time.
Ryan Lemond
That's right. Yep.
Matt Jones
I saw. I saw an article that said that most people now believe the best time to grow up and be in high school and College is in the 90s. And I think they're exactly right.
Ryan Lemond
I'll bet the person who wrote that probably grew up in the 90s.
Matt Jones
Grew up in the 90s.
Ryan Lemond
Everybody thinks their generation's the best.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but ours was best.
Ryan Lemond
Ryan probably thinks this is the best.
Matt Jones
Pre 9 11. But you still had cool stuff. You still had the Internet. She didn't have to. You didn't have phones.
Shannon
Pre 9 11.
Matt Jones
Pre 9 11. No draft.
Shannon
Yeah, no draft.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, that's a positive.
Shannon
But you're right. See, I grew up in the 80s. I think the 80s are the greatest decade ever.
Matt Jones
But see, but he's.
Caller
You're.
Shannon
You're.
Matt Jones
I mean, that's clearly wrong. Nathaniel, go ahead. Go ahead.
Caller
Hey, morning, guys.
Matt Jones
We're all doing well. Good.
Caller
Wanted to follow up on the. The Tyrone Stokes thing again. In. In the interview that he had with Chris and Peak last week, he did make a specific reference to, I think, something you alluded to earlier with one of the other callers. Was he kind of one that wants to have a sense for who's coming, who's going in the portal, that sort of thing. So. Well, I don't think you can wait maybe, like, two, three weeks on him. I do think you can give him about a week. And I think it's really important. Pope tries to lock down, whether it be Rob Wright, you know, the. The Donnie Freeman guy coming here today or tomorrow, Zoom Diallo, one or two of those guys, because then that. That's something that you can show to Stokes and be like, hey, look, here's. Here's some. We got some guys that you're going to be able to play alongside of. Yep. Independent of a Tyron Stokes decision are also guys that you could roll that you want.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I think the Rob Wright thing is huge. Appreciate the call. Because I think whether you get Stokes or not, Rob Wright is. If you're sitting there going, we've got to replace Aberdeen. No way. And we need two guys that are at least in the ballpark of his good. Rob Wright's one. You got one right there. Okay. Now, Stokes would be this. If you get Rob Wright and Stokes, you're probably better than away in there. If you get Rob. Right. And somebody a little worse, maybe you'll be a little worse, but you can be better at all the other positions and be more deep and more balanced. So Rob Wright, to me, a lot of people were on pins and needles yesterday. I'm on pins and needles today. We can't get to this show tomorrow and not have a Rob Wright commitment or. Or by midday Wednesday. It's got to happen because if you get. If you let him leave and he does not commit, then I start to wonder if it's going to happen.
Shannon
He's such a big domino to fall. You get him to commit, that might lead others to want to commit to play with this kid.
Matt Jones
Jeff Goodman has good connections with that group and basically said it's Kentucky so long as they don't screw up. So don't do.
Shannon
We take him to Carson's.
Matt Jones
And I would say just don't screw up. That's the key. Roy, go ahead. Roy.
Caller
Hello.
Matt Jones
Roy, go ahead. Tell that person the background. Yes, go ahead.
Caller
Y' all was talking about marriage last week.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller
I got a question to ask you. It's a joke. Okay. Why did God create man before he created the woman?
Matt Jones
Oh, gosh.
Caller
Can you tell me?
Matt Jones
I. I can't.
Caller
Okay. He created the man first because he didn't want the woman telling him what to do.
Matt Jones
I understand. I appreciate the. Appreciate the call.
Shannon
Call the day. I'm so glad you let him tell the joke. So worth it.
Ryan Lemond
It was for you audience of one.
Matt Jones
I mean, first of all, that, you know, all right, you can do all. You can do all this talk about serious stuff. Yep. And two out of our five calls were about Bert Kreischer taking his shirt off. And why did man create woman? Joke that would be told it by Haney. The.

Hosts: Matt Jones, Ryan Lemond, Shannon
Location: Lexington, KY
Theme: Kentucky Basketball Recruiting Frenzy, Big-Blue-Nation Hype, and Navigating High Stakes in Mark Pope’s First Offseason
This KSR episode zeroes in on the high-intensity, high-stakes Kentucky basketball recruiting scene as two elite high school prospects—Tyron Stokes and Rob Wright—visit Lexington. The hosts break down the insider drama, fanbase excitement, the unseen mechanics of recruiting visits, and the shifting landscape under new coach Mark Pope. The show oscillates between lighthearted banter, biting fan commentary, and genuine anxiety over the trajectories of Stokes and Wright, all set against the colorful backdrop of Big Blue Nation’s reaction.
This KSR episode is a microcosm of Kentucky sports fandom in 2026: old traditions, new anxieties, and a relentless appetite for basketball scoops. The high drama around Stokes and Wright symbolizes not just a recruitment but the first test of Mark Pope’s Kentucky era. Whether BBN will celebrate or panic depends on the next “couple weeks”—and whether Pope can turn anticipation into a loaded roster, without losing ground to Kansas or timing out his NIL war chest.
For listeners who missed it:
