Matt Jones Intro
This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday, May 7th.
Ryan Lemond
I'm Matt Jones. We are here live in the studio in Lexington, Kentucky. Got Ryan Lemon and Drew Franklin, fellas. Well, first of all, the Clark's Puppet shop phone lines. 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-5254 in this dish. And sponsored by the T.J. smith Law Office. Call T.J. he'll make them pay. Ryan, you did KSR bowling last night. Came back, said was packed. And you are wearing the ugliest T
Matt Jones
shirt I've ever seen. Good to see you repping the Berea Pirates.
Drew Franklin
Today we talk about. It's a beautiful shirt.
Ryan Lemond
Go Pirates. Terrible shirt, but that's okay. Did you enjoy the bowling?
Drew Franklin
Bowling was so much fun. I mean, it was packed last night. I think they added maybe some more teams showed up.
Shannon
More team.
Drew Franklin
And it was full. It was packed. The Betty Boops, of course, were there, but it was. It was so much fun last night.
Ryan Lemond
It's the only team name you and I both know. It's the only one we mentioned, but
Drew Franklin
Spare Change was our partner and they've won the league the last two years.
Ryan Lemond
Did you talk trash to them?
Drew Franklin
Oh, no, they're really good. They were talking trash to us.
Matt Jones
But I mean, it's a handicapped league. So if they won two years in
Ryan Lemond
a row, that suggests cheating.
Matt Jones
No, because in a handicap league, like, it's.
Ryan Lemond
You shouldn't win two years in a row.
Caller Townsend
They.
Drew Franklin
They are. They're really good, so.
Ryan Lemond
Sounds fishy to me, Shannon.
Matt Jones Intro
It does to me too.
Drew Franklin
Do they not fair change.
Matt Jones Intro
But don't they have, like, the automated scorekeeping? You don't write down your score anymore?
Matt Jones
No, I'm saying, like, if you're setting your handicap.
Matt Jones Intro
Uhhuh.
Matt Jones
Then the way the league works, presumably. Right.
Ryan Lemond
Is that you? It's if you do better than your handicap.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So if they've done better than everyone
Ryan Lemond
else at their handicap two years in a row, is that not a little suspect?
Shannon
There's some sandbagging.
Drew Franklin
I'm not. I'm not going to say what you're saying, but you'll be possibly saying the right thing you're trying to say.
Ryan Lemond
What does that mean? What did any of those words mean?
Drew Franklin
My name's Bennett and I Ain't in it. I'm staying out of this conversation.
Ryan Lemond
All right. Well, there you go, Drew. You. You. You'll play later in the week? Yeah. Everything go. You're good. I like. I've always. That's one of my favorite shirts. Uk. What is it? Rollback.
Shannon
Gotta rock. My UK gear. Yeah, I'm doing great. Last night was one of those nights where I didn't sleep, though. Rough, rough baby night. So what makes it rough?
Matt Jones
What does the baby do?
Ryan Lemond
Does it, like, start quoting poetry or something?
Shannon
I couldn't sleep on my own. I already knew I was in trouble. As well as nights you, like, TV's off and it's 2am I'm just looking at the ceiling. So I knew I was in trouble. And right as I started to drift off to round three, baby needed to get.
Ryan Lemond
What do you do? Like, when the bait.
Matt Jones
Like when the baby cries.
Ryan Lemond
What are you going to do?
Shannon
Stop crying, baby.
Matt Jones
You just try to rationalize.
Shannon
That's kind of. That's kind of how I talk.
Matt Jones
But, like, you don't. When the baby starts crying, just adding, why don't. Just.
Ryan Lemond
Why. Why not just let it cry?
Shannon
I mean, I would, but it's next
Ryan Lemond
to the bed in a basket.
Matt Jones
I mean, I just. Again, it's a real question. I'm not like, why do people.
Ryan Lemond
Parents.
Matt Jones
Do parents think they can fix it?
Shannon
Well, my strategy is usually let her cry it out a little bit, but if it goes on too long, especially when I'm trying to sleep, something's up. Usually a wet diaper or hungry. Okay, so you got to get up. Check. Check the britches.
Matt Jones
Could you go and, like, check to
Ryan Lemond
make sure there's not a wet diaper? Yeah. Make sure it's got, like, all its nutrients, breathing and all that and all that. And then just leave it alone. Yeah.
Shannon
And then I went back to bed.
Matt Jones
But this point, it's like, why are you laughing?
Matt Jones Intro
What a responsible parent you would be.
Matt Jones
But what is Drew supposed to do? Drew can't give it milk that I know of.
Matt Jones Intro
Comfort the baby, like, pick it up, bounce it.
Matt Jones
Actual thing you think, like, putting your
Ryan Lemond
arms around it will make it stop crying.
Shannon
It is a she. We've been. We've been trying to call her a she.
Ryan Lemond
I will say I need to start calling. I'm sorry. I mean, I mean, not to get
Shannon
a little sentimental here, but, baby, there are times. Only Dad's arms are when baby will.
Ryan Lemond
So you can see a difference when you.
Shannon
Oh, and there are times where I know where.
Matt Jones
When I'm holding Her.
Shannon
And I'm the only one that get her stop crying. It's like, well, the next two hours of my life are just sitting here.
Matt Jones
So are you saying there are times
Ryan Lemond
you can get her to cry or stop crying that Abby can.
Shannon
Yes, yes. But then, of course, Abby can do, due to our anatomy, things that I can't do.
Matt Jones
Like when it comes to holding it.
Ryan Lemond
You're better at it.
Shannon
No, no, no. It varies, but there are times where she's like, all right, you got to lock in, cuz, you know, you got the. Remember passing Lil Wayne? I've added some young Jeezy recently, but there were moments where baby needs dad's arms, which is. That's my favorite part of all.
Matt Jones
Are there moments where you can tell this is a. A dad arm, not a mom arm?
Shannon
Oh, yeah. She'll be squealing in mom's arms, and she'll be. You'll try. And then just immediately silence asleep. And at that point, you just have to sit down.
Ryan Lemond
And these are good lessons for me to learn. Yeah. I may never, never have to worry about.
Matt Jones Intro
If you saw Ryan crying, you would just sit there and let him cry. You'd go up. You'd probably.
Ryan Lemond
I would let him go. I would do what I did in Wrestlers, which is go have a good day and then go hit golf. Hit the golf ball.
Matt Jones Intro
Exactly.
Shannon
It is doing well, even though I didn't sleep.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Shannon
I'll tell it. You said hi.
Ryan Lemond
All right. Okay. Hello to it.
Matt Jones
I still need to come.
Ryan Lemond
Visited.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Her, her, she. At what point does pronouns.
Matt Jones Intro
At what point does she become a she or it become a she to you? No, I mean, six, seven, eight.
Ryan Lemond
Personality.
Matt Jones Intro
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Like, you know, start to. I'm sorry. I'll bring her to the housewarming party.
Matt Jones
I've not been around a lot of babies. Like most of my kids, when they. Or most of my friends when they
Ryan Lemond
had kids, I wasn't around. I lived elsewhere.
Matt Jones
And now, you know.
Ryan Lemond
So yours is the first baby I've had to, like, deal with and acknowledge in a while. So.
Matt Jones
So. But I want to, because this is Avery Rose.
Shannon
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. All right.
Shannon
You'll see her again soon.
Ryan Lemond
I'm looking forward to it.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
Ryan.
Drew Franklin
Sir.
Ryan Lemond
I got a message from a friend today.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Ryan Lemond
That I thought was actually really, really good.
Drew Franklin
All right.
Ryan Lemond
And it was.
Matt Jones
It has addressed the two issues that were.
Ryan Lemond
Have been on my mind this week, or at least, you know, number one, what can Pope, et cetera do to sort of turn things around?
Matt Jones
And then number two, some of the
Ryan Lemond
things we've talked about. About, like how KSR slash me gets blamed for everything. Right.
Matt Jones
So Pope did this video yesterday.
Ryan Lemond
Yes, he did, by the way. I thought it was a slam dunk. I really did. Every.
Matt Jones
A lot of people were mocking him
Ryan Lemond
for asking to put up the questions. I didn't mind it as much as everybody else did, but a lot of
Matt Jones
people were mocking it and saying it
Ryan Lemond
was a terrible idea.
Matt Jones
If you remember, yesterday on the show, I was like, hold out, let's see what they do. And I actually thought the first thing
Ryan Lemond
they've done was great. And I want to go over some of the stuff he said in the video because not only did I think it was great that he addressed and answered the questions, I actually thought some of the stuff he said was substantively interesting. Right. But this is what the person said.
Matt Jones
The person said, Matt, I think part of the issue that UK and the
Ryan Lemond
fans deal with is the disappearance of traditional media. Think about it.
Matt Jones
For most UK fans of our age or younger UK fans, between the local
Ryan Lemond
newspaper, the local TV stations, the Herald,
Matt Jones
the Courier, Sports Illustrated, Sporting News and Cat's Balls, we felt like we got UK information all the time. UK was that these entities were putting
Ryan Lemond
out publications that parsed out quotes and
Matt Jones
stats, game recaps, game previews, analysis. If you wanted UK information, you could
Ryan Lemond
get it whenever you wanted.
Matt Jones
Now almost all of those outlets have
Ryan Lemond
disappeared or they are significantly less important.
Matt Jones
Thus we actually get less information unless
Ryan Lemond
we seek it on Twitter, etc. The one exception is while the Herald, the Courier, the TV stations, the Cat's Paws, Sporting News, Sports Illustrated are all
Matt Jones
significantly less important than they should be, you all to most fans, feel like you're everywhere.
Ryan Lemond
You're on the radio, you have the website, you all have the biggest social media followings.
Matt Jones
And so you all become where the information is.
Ryan Lemond
And when things aren't like they like it, they get mad at you.
Matt Jones
UK has to realize that with significantly fewer outlets for information, they have to produce more information and they also have
Ryan Lemond
to work with the very few people left. If they don't, you get a void where it is just social media accounts blabbering and at that point you can't control the message and it's easier for fans to get upset. I think that's really good.
Drew Franklin
That's really good.
Ryan Lemond
Do you agree with that?
Shannon
I completely agree because that's true.
Matt Jones
So think about all those outlets used to be if it was in the Herald or the Courier. Ryan, everyone in the city and everyone in the state talked about it.
Ryan Lemond
Absolutely.
Matt Jones
If John Clay or Jerry Tipton or Rick Bozich, one of them wrote an article. It was on everyone's.
Ryan Lemond
Everyone Talk.
Drew Franklin
Everybody saw it.
Matt Jones
The local TV stations. I mean, I'll say this, Drew, you would agree. There was a time where everyone in the city knew who Alan Cutler, Rob Bromley, Ryan Lemon, who they were.
Shannon
That's why everybody got so excited. Hearing Rob just say one sentence grew
Matt Jones
up and he was on our TV screens every night. Local news just doesn't have that impact anymore. I don't even know who the sports
Ryan Lemond
anchors are on most of these stations.
Matt Jones
But there was a time I knew every single person on television. There was a time when I first started where literally Allen Cutler and Ryan Linman would get stopped everywhere. Now no one stops you.
Ryan Lemond
No, that's not true. I'm just kidding. But you know what I mean.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
The cat's paws. There was a time you get that
Ryan Lemond
delivered to you couldn't wait to get it delivered.
Matt Jones
You could wait to. You could read it. You could go into the barber shop
Ryan Lemond
and there was always one there.
Drew Franklin
Yep. Doctor's office.
Matt Jones
Well, now it's gone.
Ryan Lemond
Now all those things are basically gone.
Matt Jones
On the web, when I started, there were 30 websites and slowly they've withered down and to some extent we're the last one left and, you know, through
Ryan Lemond
some of our success. But then the corporate people buying it,
Matt Jones
they've kind of bought up the competition. Right.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
On social media, if you fought, what are the biggest Shannon Social media UK accounts?
Matt Jones Intro
Well, probably at KY Sports Radio.
Ryan Lemond
Me. Yeah, probably. Then Drew, Kyle Tucker has a big one.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Tyler, Jack, Nick, it's all KSR related. It's probably all ksr. So I can kind of see how people would get sick of you.
Drew Franklin
But where else you're going to get the info?
Matt Jones
Exactly.
Ryan Lemond
Where are you going to get it?
Matt Jones
So in that mode, it becomes more important for, in my opinion, for UK
Ryan Lemond
to both work with these entities that are left, but also to produce its own content.
Matt Jones
But it has to be content.
Ryan Lemond
That is what people actually want. It can't just be. So how was your day, Mark?
Matt Jones
Well, that was actually a good start yesterday.
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Matt Jones
Because that's a situation where he answered questions, but he actually, I thought, answered real questions.
Drew Franklin
He did.
Matt Jones
I gained a lot of respect for the whole process. When the question popped up that said 14 of your 20 recruits have come on campus and none of them committed why he took it on and he took that. Just putting that question on the screen, I would argue. Take some cojones.
Shannon
Yeah, he's not running from it. Even if you didn't like his answer, he. That that was out there, and it addressed.
Matt Jones
I mean, how many coaches would put up there without whining and complaining. That's what I liked. Shannon. He acknowledged the question, but he didn't whine or like, Dabo Sweeney, go, y'
Ryan Lemond
all can get somebody else in here.
Matt Jones Intro
Like, he answered, he's taking the right attitude about it.
Matt Jones
I mean, when he took the right
Matt Jones Intro
attitude to you, if things don't go right, I want you to bl me. And that's what he did.
Matt Jones
But he went and said, first, I'd like to get all 20 here.
Ryan Lemond
Good, good quote.
Matt Jones
Secondly, he literally said, we kind of saw a special talent and held out
Drew Franklin
for him and didn't get him generational talent.
Matt Jones
He basically acknowledged, maybe we made a
Ryan Lemond
mistake, but here's what we did.
Matt Jones
And you know what? I give him credit for that. He could have said some bs. He could have said something that was a complete lie. Instead, he said, look, we thought this was generational talent.
Ryan Lemond
We thought we could get him. We waited. He didn't then say, and that might
Matt Jones
have been a mistake, but clearly that's. We didn't get the guys.
Ryan Lemond
It's a.
Matt Jones
It might be a mistake. Drew. I just love that he did that, because there are very, very, very few coaches who would take the question, and there's even fewer who would actually answer it honestly.
Shannon
There aren't many coaches in any of the major sports that would even.
Ryan Lemond
Like.
Shannon
When PR Throws that out, that idea, they're like, heck, no. I'm not engaging like that with fans. But Pope jumped right and did it. I know it's not the most thorough answers on some of them, but you can't expect him to sit down and call Tyron Stokes by name and detail the recruitment. I mean, there's only so much he can say to begin with, and I thought he handled it well. And honestly, whatever you think about each individual answer, just him putting his face out there again when it's been so quiet and kind of some down times this offseason, I think just him speaking to the fans, whatever's coming out of his mouth was. Was a good idea.
Matt Jones
If he had put some softball thing
Ryan Lemond
that was like, what's your favorite breakfast food? Like, people would have said, oh, but
Matt Jones
he did that question. He acknowledged the countries in the cities
Ryan Lemond
he visited recently, which, of course, immediately makes everybody go, well, who's in that city? Huh?
Matt Jones Intro
Right?
Ryan Lemond
Who you look at?
Matt Jones
You know what? That's information.
Ryan Lemond
Like people. It gets. Allows people Last night, everybody speculating, where did he go?
Matt Jones
Who did he go see?
Shannon
That was good, because right now, everybody's all about wasting a trip to Israel. And he can't say who he saw, but he's letting people know there was
Matt Jones
four or five other countries. Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
And nobody knew that.
Shannon
And everybody's just focused on the one Santos.
Matt Jones
So I will say I thought it was great.
Ryan Lemond
And then he, you know, he had
Matt Jones
a couple of goofy ones, but that's okay because he answered, I, if I were them, I'd take a few days
Ryan Lemond
and I'd put another video out every day for a few days. You don't have to do this forever
Matt Jones
because I actually think it got something that's very rare on the Internet. It got universal praise. National media was like, good job. Other fans were like, well, that's kind of cool. And Kentucky fans seem like that's the first good bit of publicity we've gotten since the end of the season. So for all the people that mocked him the night before for doing it, they took a risk and it paid
Ryan Lemond
off, in my opinion.
Matt Jones
And you know what? I want a coach that takes a risk and pays off. Ultimately, he's got to win.
Ryan Lemond
If he doesn't win, none of this will matter anyway.
Matt Jones
But I want a coach who will take a risk. He got mocked at the moment they did it, but they made it work.
Ryan Lemond
So I liked it. I thought it was an A.
Matt Jones
And I told somebody, I called somebody
Ryan Lemond
at Ukraine and I said, this is. I thought you guys crushed this.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I thought it was really good. And I thought he did a really good job at answering those questions. I didn't want it to end. I thought it was so good. I didn't want it to end.
Matt Jones
I didn't do. I wish it had been longer. I think if they're smart now, though, I'd put another one out today or tomorrow and keep it up for a little while. You don't do it forever. And he said, keep them coming so
Ryan Lemond
it sounds like they're planning on doing.
Drew Franklin
I respect it.
Matt Jones
2287, if you agree, give us a shout.
Ryan Lemond
We will take a break and be right back.

There you go. Look at us. We had a breakthrough there.
Ryan Lemond
Her.
Matt Jones Intro
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Not.
Ryan Lemond
Not it.
Shannon
Sometimes these aren't ordinary cries letting them go, are they?
Ryan Lemond
Oh, I. Believe me, people, I sit next to them in restaurants. I hear. I hear it that next to your
Shannon
bed at three in the morning can be a little aggravating.
Drew Franklin
So what if they're at a restaurant? You say they should let her cry.
Ryan Lemond
No, I say take her outside where there aren't people sitting. That's the sequel, Shannon.
Matt Jones Intro
Yeah, well, we're waiting for that one for crack.
Ryan Lemond
That one hasn't come out yet.
Matt Jones Intro
Yeah.

859-280-2287. The text machine is 772-774-5254. One person writes. Matt, I enjoyed the segment where you were making that guy hit on Drew Cena as much as anything you all have done lately. Have you gotten any feedback from him? Was he embarrassed? I have not, but people did seem to like it.
Shannon
I've gotten a lot of messages about that, too. I didn't know people would like that bit so much.
Matt Jones
Well, I think there's a part of
Ryan Lemond
it that, like, that's, you know, we've had so much kind of serious, like, oh, what's going on?
Matt Jones
Then we get to have fun for a minute.
Shannon
And his pickup was terrible.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, it was awful. It was awful.
Matt Jones
But he was so confident.
Matt Jones Intro
Drew seen as no floozy. You got to come strong with the game.
Ryan Lemond

Shannon
I have standards.
Ryan Lemond
You have standards.
Shannon
You just come up to me drooling, trying to buy a drink, sloppy drunk.
Matt Jones
One person writes, how about how many people thought it was AI yesterday?
Shannon
Did you all hand up?
Drew Franklin
Did you?
Shannon
I mean, I didn't think it was I. But, I mean, as soon as it started, I'm like, what are they using to make this look.
Ryan Lemond
So it did look, like crazy.
Drew Franklin
Good.
Ryan Lemond
How much does that camera they're using?
Shannon
It's how they, like, blur. I don't know the terminology, but, like, the background's blurred behind them a lot. I guess it's how they focus.
Ryan Lemond
You should. You should learn that Mario blur everything around us so that we look.
Matt Jones
Because he looked.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, he looked like. Like as clear as you could be. And it did kind of look AI ish, but it wasn't AI.
Drew Franklin
That's the production value. They deal there. Uk they got better equipment.
Matt Jones
But you thought it might be AI.
Shannon
Well, I didn't think it was actually AI, but three seconds in, I'm like, man, this looks like.
Ryan Lemond
I did wonder if his original video, Shannon was AI. Where he was asking people for comments.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones Intro
I was like, this can't be true. He's really asking for this.
Ryan Lemond
No. Yeah.
Matt Jones
One person says Matt.
Ryan Lemond
I thought the questions were way too softball. Well, I don't know what you were expecting, Ryan. I didn't think they were softball when you. I mean, I guess a couple of them were.
Matt Jones
But when you put up there someone
Ryan Lemond
saying you had 14 of 20 people visit and they didn't come.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
And he didn't deny that.
Drew Franklin
No, he didn't.
Matt Jones Intro
And to me, that's not. The recruits were using Kentucky as for leverage. You know, that was interesting too.
Ryan Lemond
He threw that off right at the bat.
Matt Jones
I'd like to have heard him say,
Ryan Lemond
though, we still have to overcome this.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
You know, but he didn't duck it.
Drew Franklin
You know, that's what I like. I appreciate he did take on a couple hard questions, like right off the bat, because I think it's what we wanted to hear as a fan. He said a lot of things, a lot of damage control that I needed to hear.
Ryan Lemond
So he said he had gone to Israel. Lubjana, that's in Slovenia.
Drew Franklin
I didn't know where that was.
Ryan Lemond
And I've been there. That's where I went. I went there during my European trip. It was the only time I went into Eastern Europe. That was the one I placed. I remember I told you I went to a coffee shop that all they played was 90s rap.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, yeah, yeah. That was there.
Caller Andy
There.
Ryan Lemond
He said we went to Milan. What was the other place? It was like some small town in Italy, I think. Yeah.
Shannon
I'm not going to get it.
Ryan Lemond
He wasn't gone that long, so he must have hit a bunch of.
Matt Jones
Bunch of places.
Drew Franklin
Jet setting because he was at the.
Matt Jones
Because he. He went there like last Monday or Tuesday.
Shannon
He went the day after Stokes. So that would have been Wednesday.
Matt Jones
I know. And he was back. His. His daughter ran a marathon on Saturday,
Ryan Lemond
so he wasn't gone that long. Yeah. Well, it also tells me though, they're still trying to get players, right?
Drew Franklin
Actively trying to get players.
Ryan Lemond
If They're. If they're trying to do it. Yeah.
Shannon
So he also said Malachi was the centerpiece. I mean, we all kind of figure that.
Ryan Lemond
But he talked about Malachi could be the best big man in America. That's a little bit of pressure.
Shannon
It is. And now Malachi is kind of in the news, having just worked out from the Knicks yesterday. So there's a little damage control there, too, with some fans worrying about his projection.
Ryan Lemond
Seem to suggest that he felt like that he would. Yeah, he didn't. Didn't say that explicitly.
Shannon
It's weird. We encourage our players to go test the waters, but the moment they start testing the waters, we're like, wait a minute. They're leaving. Like, this is part of it. Like, that's what they should do.
Ryan Lemond
You're going to drown.
Caller Townsend
Yeah.
Shannon
They should go do these workouts.
Ryan Lemond
No, you're right. 859280, 2287. The before we get the phones, the Sean Miller said. Or excuse me, we remember Sean Miller said there would be 20 teams to pay 20 to 25 million dollars. Yesterday on 3 Sports said there are four teams that have already paid 20 million dollars and that they expected it to be 15 or more when the season started. The four they said had done it were Louisville, Florida, Duke and Texas. Or the four that had already paid 20 million. They had a list of teams that had paid 15 to 20, and we weren't on that list yet.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I think we got a boatload of money just sitting there in a wheelbarrow waiting to give it to somebody. They had to set aside for Stokes. They still got still how to spend it somehow or not or just pocket it for next year.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, you don't have to. And I kind of wonder. I mean, you don't just pay somebody because you got it.
Shannon
You don't want to just waste it.
Ryan Lemond
You don't just want to waste it. Like, hey, what do you think about the fact Louisville, Florida, Duke, Texas.
Matt Jones
There's a world in which we would
Ryan Lemond
play all those teams.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Because, I mean, we might get Duke in the ACC Classic. So at Cameron.
Matt Jones
So there's a world in which all four teams that we pay that are.
Ryan Lemond
Have paid $20 million.
Matt Jones
Drew that we would play them all.
Shannon
But last year they played us and we had spent 20 million and we lost those games. So we're flipping it. We're trading them spots.
Ryan Lemond
What was our record against those teams last year? We were owing three. Texas, we beat Louisville, we lost. We didn't play Duke. So we were one in One and four against those teams last year.
Drew Franklin
Guess we just got to go out and beat him.
Shannon
Now this year, I'm really surprised Louisville's in that group. I mean, Duke doesn't shock me. Texas doesn't shock me. Florida doesn't shock me. But I didn't think Louisville had the fun.
Ryan Lemond
I think I talked to somebody close to the program that said we got to decide if Kelsey's the guy. And their view is, let's give him everything you need. Let's see what happens.
Matt Jones
And I think that, to me, that makes some sense.
Ryan Lemond
Right. Doesn't mean they'd fire him if it didn't work. But you want to know right now
Drew Franklin
he's got to perform.
Ryan Lemond
So now you got the roster. So they'll. They'll have a way to decide. All right, we'll take your calls. 859-280-2287.
iHeart Advertising Announcer
KSR, TJ Smith, personal injury attorney.
Ryan Lemond
Call TJ. He'll make him pay.
Matt Jones Intro
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Ryan Lemond
All right, we have some breaking news that makes me sick. Go ahead, hit it. Running on. Kentucky High School Athletic association is making pickleball a state championship event.
Drew Franklin
Not on board with that.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Matt Jones Intro
Don't you want to be there? Like, as a.
Ryan Lemond
What a pathetic decision.
Shannon
I didn't know young people played pickleball.
Matt Jones
I thought that was why tennis? What, we're going to play checkers next?
Matt Jones Intro
They already do. They have a chess club, but they
Matt Jones
don't make it a state champion. This is a high school athletic association
Ryan Lemond
is making it a state championship.
Matt Jones Intro
It's athletic.
Ryan Lemond
What, it's tennis?
Matt Jones
No, it's pickleball.
Matt Jones Intro
It's essentially tennis.
Matt Jones
You just.
Drew Franklin
They do esports, state championship, and they sure as hell.
Caller Townsend
Okay.
Matt Jones
But esports, though, I don't know that. I think that's great, but whatever. It's a very. You have to be very good at what you're doing.
Matt Jones Intro
Ask Ryan.
Matt Jones
If they don't move, Pickleball is different.
Matt Jones Intro
Ryan pulled a string.
Drew Franklin
Shannon ran me all over the court when I played.
Matt Jones
But you're bad.
Ryan Lemond
Like, good players don't move a lot.
Shannon
If you're in high school, you should just go play tennis.
Matt Jones
Go play tennis. High school. If you're old, I get it. You can't move. You still want to play a racket sport?
Ryan Lemond
I'm fine with it.
Matt Jones
But if you're in high school, go play tennis.
Drew Franklin
Won't that hurt? The tennis?
Matt Jones
Maybe, yeah.
Matt Jones Intro
If you're too slow to play tennis, you got pickleball.
Matt Jones
Well, then go play esports.
Shannon
Isn't it just going to be. The tennis players are also playing pickleball? It's going to be the same.
Matt Jones
Well, they are different skills.
Ryan Lemond
I do. I will say I think they're different skills, but still, nevertheless, I don't.
Drew Franklin
Maybe they do. One in the fall, one in the spring. So.
Ryan Lemond
Are you scared of the hantavirus? Yes.
Drew Franklin
Are you kidding me? After what we just went through a couple years ago?
Matt Jones
100%, 43% mortality rate.
Matt Jones Intro
That's not good.
Drew Franklin
Keep that boat out in the water.
Matt Jones
Don't let those. I don't really know all the details.
Ryan Lemond
I just kind of started seeing this yesterday. So there's a boat?
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
And everybody's got the hantavirus cruise ship that like it's.
Drew Franklin
They quarantined the whole boat.
Ryan Lemond
How many people are on that boat?
Drew Franklin
I don't know.
Matt Jones Intro
What is the hint of. What is that?
Ryan Lemond
It's a new virus that is like
Matt Jones Intro
that word in my life. I hint.
Matt Jones
Have people died yet?
Drew Franklin
I. I thought three, maybe.
Shannon
Yeah, there's been to death because I was.
Matt Jones
I don't know how they can say 43% more.
Ryan Lemond
Does that mean only like seven people have it?
Drew Franklin
I thought there was several.
Ryan Lemond
Boat.
Shannon
I don't think, like, everybody on the boat has it, but they have some confirmed cases and they're making everybody, you
Matt Jones
know, so if you were on that
Ryan Lemond
boat, you'd be terrified.
Matt Jones Intro
Jump off the boat.
Shannon
I would hate everyone around me.
Ryan Lemond
Because they're not letting you off the boat.
Matt Jones
Is it all Americans?
Shannon
I don't think so. But the problem is no country will let them dock. Like, no one is accepting them.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, this is like.
Matt Jones
So they're just.
Matt Jones Intro
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So they're just out there floating.
Shannon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
They don't want to bring the virus on shore.
Matt Jones
I did see a story this morning, though, that 23 people that were on the boat when the virus was there
Ryan Lemond
got let off somewhere. So they're. They're worried that if.
Matt Jones
If it gets out.
Drew Franklin
My goodness.
Matt Jones
So, okay, so here's what I don't
Ryan Lemond
understand about the hair.
Matt Jones
Like, it just got created on the boat. Has it. Does it exist elsewhere?
Shannon
I think it exists elsewhere, but it
Ryan Lemond
just hasn't been out.
Shannon
I don't want to misspeak. I've only seen the boat stuff. But there's also. I think there was maybe a flight somewhere.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Matt Jones
Because mine, it feels like we're running it back. So, like on 2020, you go back 40 years.
Ryan Lemond
These things happen all the time. And I was always dismissive of them.
Matt Jones
And if you remember, I kind of
Ryan Lemond
famously was dismissive of COVID Yeah, not dismissive, but I was like, we'll go to the Walmart and sit there, hey,
Matt Jones Intro
Ryan, are you scared? We used to do that every day. Are you scared?
Ryan Lemond
We used to be like, ryan, are you scared now? Yeah. Are you scared now?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I do remember where.
Ryan Lemond
So my ex girlfriend worked at CBS News, right? And she in February had produced an hour long special. This is way before it was like, about what Covid was and why we should be worried. And I remember her calling me because it went on at like 6am and saying, get up and watch it because I did this. So I got up and watched it and that was when I was like, oh, maybe this is a real thing. But still I was like, we always hear this. And of course that changed the world. So is it that we should be worried or are we spooked by what happened last time?
Drew Franklin
I think we better be worried, that we better take major precautions already.
Matt Jones Intro
But if they're being quarantined at sea, then what do we have to worry about? Just keep them.
Matt Jones
Because 23 people got off the boat.
Drew Franklin
They have to let those people off the boat.
Matt Jones
Well, at some point.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. You can't just leave them out there forever. Some point you're gonna have to let them go.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
Like, I mean, boats can't float forever. They gotta have supplies and.
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Drew Franklin
Even the infected people, you gotta let them off the boat at some point.
Shannon
Let's drop some supplies off.
Ryan Lemond
You just want to like drop food on them by the air.
Matt Jones
So they're supposed to stay out there forever.
Matt Jones Intro
Imagine you're.
Shannon
I mean, they got karaoke. I mean they got a pool.
Matt Jones
I think there's a water slide.
Matt Jones Intro
Like, like, let's just say one of us were on the crew. You can't go back to your job. You can't do anything. You're stuck there. Like what?
Caller Joe
You can't.
Matt Jones
So is this a. Is this like a cruise ship? Like their party and cruise ship? Who's on the ship?
Matt Jones Intro
Sick people.
Shannon
I mean, I assume it's your typical cruise ship with your fun.
Matt Jones
Why do people go on cruise?
Matt Jones Intro
I've never been on one and this is not helping.
Matt Jones
It feels like everyone jumps off or dies or it's gets viruses. Why do, why do people go on those?
Shannon
See the ocean?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Well, this can't help the industry.
Shannon
I saw a tweet last night that has me a little scared and not scared. It's just like, how did this happen? But there was a tweet in 2021. It's still up. A guy said coronavirus because it already happened in 21. Said will end in 2023. Hantavirus coming 2026. He tweeted that in 2020.
Ryan Lemond
He probably. Well, I don't know what I'm talking about. What. So what's the Hanta part?
Drew Franklin
I don't know. I understand.
Ryan Lemond
Because Covid was like something. There was a reason for the. I'm sure Hanta is too. Well, I just asked you. So you are scared.
Matt Jones
You were scared of COVID too?
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Drew Franklin
I think we should be on guard.
Matt Jones
What are we supposed to do?
Ryan Lemond
We be on guard.
Drew Franklin
We're gonna wear masks again.
Ryan Lemond
What am I supposed to do, just
Matt Jones
sit there with my fists up?
Shannon
Tiger King, too. You get hunker down.
Matt Jones Intro
Fever, fatigue, and severe muscle aches.
Matt Jones
But this is supposedly even more deadly,
Ryan Lemond
especially if you get it, especially in
Matt Jones Intro
your thighs, hips, and back.
Ryan Lemond
You have a watch if your thighs start hurting.
Drew Franklin
I thought my thigh was hurting a little this morning.
Ryan Lemond
Get him out.
Matt Jones
Are you six feet away?
Matt Jones Intro
Get out of here, Hanta.
Ryan Lemond
Have you washed your hands, Andy? Go for it, Andy.
Caller Andy
Hey, what's going on, guys?
Ryan Lemond
Hey, Andy.
Drew Franklin
How you feeling, brother?
Caller Andy
Hey, I'm doing all right. I've been home for about a week. The surgery went pretty well. They. The doctor seemed pretty optimistic. I go back on the 19th for the pathology report to figure out, you know, what. What from there, if anything.
Ryan Lemond
So good luck. I'm glad to hear.
Caller Andy
I feel pretty recovered.
Ryan Lemond
Well, good. I'm glad to hear it went well. And we're thinking about you, what you got.
Caller Andy
And I do appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers and cards and things that were sent. Specifically ladies of ksr, I wanted to say that.
Ryan Lemond
Well, thank you.
Caller Andy
And my basketball question here is, you know, we're talking about this may be the. Well is the make or break year for Mark Pope. But, you know, you. You had said before that that money was specifically for Tyron Stokes. If it's really the make or break here for Mark Pope, it just seems to me that you would take that money and put it toward at least trying to learn.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know that it's completely his choice. I don't know that it's completely his choice. Nice to hear from you. I appreciate you guys. I don't think it's complete. I think, like, some of that money is. We'll give it if it's a particular person for our ad stuff. So, like, Mark Pope has a. Has a pot of money that I think they could Use for whoever Mark Pope wants and he's picked. But I'd always been told there's this kind of second pot of money that was for Stokes because there were particular people who were willing to give the money for Stokes because of things that they thought he could do, endorsement wise, et cetera, that maybe they would give to somebody else. But they're not just going to give and say give it to anybody. So I think they'd have to go and say this person. So it would need to be somebody that people felt like was worth that money.
Drew Franklin
Are there one of the guys that are hasn't withdrawn his name for the NBA draft yet that maybe would fit?
Ryan Lemond
I don't know. I'd always been told it was Stokes, but what I'm saying to you is I don't know if they would do for somebody else, but they were doing it for Stokes because they felt like Stokes himself was worth it for their. Whatever it was. Adam, Go ahead, Adam.
Caller Townsend
Hey, what's up, guys?
Ryan Lemond
What's up? All right, we gotta get these words out here. Go ahead.
Caller Townsend
I loved your monologue to. To open the show. I used to love to when, you know, you're just waiting on the cat spas magazine to hit your mailbox like, you. You took me back to all my feelings. And after a UK game, it's like, go get a Herald Leader or a Courier Journal. And you would buy it and then see, like, there would be a box that said last night's game ended too late to article.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, no.
Matt Jones
But I do think it makes it to where there's this star. It's twofold. One, there's a starvation for information. And oddly, even though we have a million different ways to get it, we actually have less information you can rely on.
Ryan Lemond
That's the paradox of the Internet.
Matt Jones
There's more stuff out there, but actually,
Ryan Lemond
oddly less stuff you can rely on.
Matt Jones
And because of that, in terms of what people, quote unquote, think you can rely on, like, we're the last one standing in some ways that it's its
Ryan Lemond
full capacity that what it was then when we used to be the smallest.
Matt Jones
And so I can understand why people A, are starved and B, are also like, gosh, can we get Matt and
Ryan Lemond
Drew and Ryan out?
Matt Jones
But because, like, that's so I get
Ryan Lemond
it, but that's unfortunately just kind of how it is. Adam.
Caller Joe
Yep.
Caller Townsend
As far as the. The virus, I'm not. I'm not scared of. Of that. But what. What terrifies me. And I have panic attacks about, like, flying on planes or the thought of being stuck on a tarmac, on an airplane, or the thought of being stuck on a cruise ship and you can't get off, like, that is terrifying to me.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I appreciate the call. Are there people stuck on an airplane?
Shannon
No, I don't think. I think he's just making an example of, like, when that does happen.
Ryan Lemond
Can you imagine if you were on the airplane and they realized somebody on it had it and all? You just had to sit on that airplane.
Shannon
I'm running off.
Matt Jones Intro
I'm kicking off, getting out of there. There's like a bunch of emergency exes. They've already gone through it with me at the beginning of it. You know, they tell you.
Ryan Lemond
What do you. What do you do? But, like, what if they're like, no, you can't.
Matt Jones Intro
Well, I'm gonna get arrested.
Ryan Lemond
And then, you know, you're gonna get it too.
Matt Jones Intro
I'm getting myself arrested.
Matt Jones
This is a mo.
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Matt Jones
No, I'm serious. Hantavirus is contained on the boat.
Ryan Lemond
One guy gets off. He gets on a plane.
Matt Jones
Everyone, they realize he has it, and
Ryan Lemond
he's on the plane and it's.
Matt Jones
And then all of a sudden, they're
Ryan Lemond
like, no one get off this plane.
Matt Jones
If you're on the plane, then you're probably going to get it because he's right there.
Drew Franklin
You're on that. Confined.
Matt Jones
But you also can't let him out or it'll get all over the world.
Ryan Lemond
Now that's a movie. It is a movie. What do you. What happens in the plane? Chaos.
Shannon
Everybody's fighting over the Bischoff cookies, and
Matt Jones
they're trying to get. And they're trying to guess who has it.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Who's the guy?
Matt Jones
Who's the one that has it?
Shannon
Maybe do the little oxygen mask.
Matt Jones
This is a great movie. How do I. Who can. Who can I call, by the way?
Shannon
Samuel Jackson.
Ryan Lemond
I just copyrighted this movie.
Matt Jones Intro
It's already out. It's called quarantine, too.
Matt Jones
Is it really?
Matt Jones Intro
I think so.
Shannon
Well, we're doing quarantine three.
Matt Jones
No, I have a better version.
Shannon
Yeah, it's. It's called quarantine terminal.
Matt Jones Intro
Terminal, yeah.
Matt Jones
Well, that's. In the terminal.
Matt Jones Intro
A plane is taken over by a mysterious virus. When the plane lands, that is placed under quarantine.
Shannon
Oh, well, one thing about planes, I'm
Ryan Lemond
gonna do it, but I'm gonna make it better.
Matt Jones Intro
Came out two years ago with the
Shannon
planes and the virus. We are hosting the World cup in a month and a half with the
Matt Jones
world coming back with COVID They said the. The centerpiece of the initial spread was a soccer game. Have you ever read about this?
Drew Franklin
No.
Matt Jones
There was a Champions League soccer game between an Italian team at Atlanta and someone else and it was played in a third city. So I think there were two teams playing maybe in Milan or maybe somewhere else and no, Atlanta's in Milan. They had gone somewhere else for the
Ryan Lemond
game and they think that was maybe a super spreading event, those 80,000 people,
Matt Jones
because not only did they go to the game, they then went and dispersed to their countries.
Ryan Lemond
It's a good point.
Matt Jones
With the World cup, all these people are going to be coming.
Shannon
They're all coming to us.
Caller Townsend
Wow.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. I'm even more.
Drew Franklin
I'll go buy some masks today.
Ryan Lemond
The plane would have been a good idea. We'll be right back.

welcome Back Techie Sports Radio I've forgotten what it was like, Shannon, to have my my mentions filled with virus experts.
Matt Jones Intro
Oh yeah, yeah, they're out there.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, it's been a while since. It's been a while since since we had. Since I had everybody became immuno or whatever you call it. Virus experts.
Shannon
Virologist.

Go to cornbreadhemp.com promo code flowers so just a Couple facts here. Pantavirus is spread through rats, primarily. Gene Hackman's wife died of it.
Drew Franklin
I saw that.
Ryan Lemond
But. But this one is unique because it's not spread through wraps. It's rats. It's human to human, which is the first time that's been the case.
Matt Jones
Most of the passengers are from Holland.
Ryan Lemond
It's a luxury cruise ship. So you pay for luxury, you get a virus.
Caller Townsend
Wow.
Ryan Lemond
16Americans are on the ship. So there's some. There's some actual facts. One person writes, Matt, how about you do your mute? Your movie about the plane.
Matt Jones
Quarantine 2. But a hallmark movie. Exactly.
Shannon
So the.
Ryan Lemond
The.
Matt Jones
The woman falls in love with the
Ryan Lemond
man, but she has the hantavirus. He has the hantavirus.
Matt Jones Intro
They kiss. And that's how they spread it. Right.
Ryan Lemond
So can love overcome hanta?
Matt Jones Intro
No.
Ryan Lemond
And they both get it and die in Oldham County.
Caller Townsend
Wow.
Shannon
That's dark. I don't think people die in Hallmark movies.
Matt Jones Intro
Here's the great thing.
Matt Jones
They're pulling the end, pushing it to the end.
Matt Jones Intro
Nobody see that coming. Like that'd be a good plot twist.
Matt Jones
That'd be a good plot twist.
Shannon
Yeah, that's a good point.
Matt Jones Intro
Yeah.
Shannon

Matt Jones Intro

Matt Jones
Exactly. I love you so much.
Matt Jones Intro
I'm willing to take the virus.
Matt Jones
I'll get the hantavirus and we'll move
Ryan Lemond
to Oldham county where we'll die on the train tracks in lagrange.
Shannon
Okay. Yeah. Let's get in production.
Matt Jones
Shannon, you're in the biz.
Shannon
Suck us up.
Matt Jones Intro
Okay. Get my speaking role.
Ryan Lemond
You're the virus. Joe. Go ahead, Joe.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller Joe
Thank you. Gentlemen, quickly on Coach Brooks and his staff. That's a tremendous addition to the girl from Slovenia. And Matt, last time I talked to you, I asked you if you thought the ladies program had money to get players like that. And you said you thought maybe not a top five player, but maybe somebody after that. So congratulations to your assessment on that. And quickly on the men is Jaden Quaidesis is a possibility to be in the lottery fair. Is coach Brooks you think is going to be at the table or not? I have no idea. But if.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'm sorry. I bet he would.
Ryan Lemond
I bet he would be there.
Matt Jones
He should.
Caller Joe
Well, then I would have his wife for a couple of his daughters long wedding.
Caller Townsend
And.
Caller Joe
And that would help his Persona, I
Caller Townsend
think a whole lot. And.
Ryan Lemond
And we need our.
Caller Joe
We need all the advantages we could get right now in this recruiting, I don't have no answers other than no.
Matt Jones
I think that's a really good point
Ryan Lemond
and I. I appreciate the call. It's nice to hear from you, Joe. Yeah, I. If quaint and gets it. I appreciate the call. He came here. You should go.
Matt Jones
You know, the girl that or the woman that Kitty Brooks got was from Lubjana, Slovenia.
Shannon
Oh, wow. Maybe Pope.
Matt Jones
Do you think Pope got him for got her for Brooks or did and then like, it was about that time she signed?
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
Maybe Brooks was on the plane.
Shannon
The timeline checks out.
Matt Jones
The timeline. I mean, what are the chances Kenny Brooks would sign a girl from Slovenia? Lubjana, right at the time Pope is Lynn Lujan. There's gotta be.
Ryan Lemond
He maybe delivered the papers, but he had to do something.
Shannon
Pope's about to go to Tel Aviv. Kenny Brooks is like, hey, can you detour and drop off this packet of papers I need to get signed and bring it back to me?
Matt Jones
I mean, we're keeping it, but, like, it's too coincidental, isn't it?
Drew Franklin
I can see Pope making a visit just to talk to the girl about maybe coming to Kentucky.
Matt Jones
I mean, Shannon, what do you think?
Ryan Lemond
Ljubjana?
Matt Jones
I mean, it's not even that big.
Matt Jones Intro
It makes sense.
Matt Jones
I mean, I've been there. It was.
Ryan Lemond
It's big. It's their capital, so.
Matt Jones Intro
But still, maybe they're working in tandems. You're going to take that trip over
Matt Jones
there on the trip and nobody knew.
Matt Jones Intro
Send both coaches. It makes sense.
Ryan Lemond
Both of them. That would make some sense.
Matt Jones
Townsend.
Ryan Lemond
Go ahead, Townsend.
Caller Townsend
Hey, good morning, guys. Matt, I wanted to say that your observations and questions to Drew about what to do with the baby in the middle of the night had me absolutely cracking up. And it's funny because those are questions that first time parents always ask themselves in the middle of the night. Question for you that I saw on the Internet recently. If you could have an athletic superpower for 24 hours, what would it be? So you can hit like Barry Bond, you can run like Usain Bolt, you can throw like Brady, what would it
Caller Andy
be for you guys?
Ryan Lemond
That's a great question. Let me think about that during the break. The athletic superpower that I would want to have. Appreciate the call. For 24 hours, I'll think about. I like that question. Also, we've got to talk about the dude that's being naked in Cherokee. That picture and the Louisville police department's account. We gotta do that.
