this is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage and the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Safe summer driving tour. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Thursday, July 2nd. I'm Matt Jones here live in Louisville, Kentucky. Right before the 4th of July on what is claimed to be likely the hottest day of the year. I walked outside. It shouldn't be allowed that people are outside today. Clark's puppet shop phone lines, 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-5254. In this dish and sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office called TJL Make Them Pay. I'm gonna go ahead and tell you this is gonna be not a lot of sports day today. I mean, there'll be some sports, but probably not a lot of UK sports. Cause you know what? Nothing's going on. If that's not your thing, that's okay. But it's the Holly, it's the Fourth of July. This isn't the time to debate whether Zoom can run the Zoom action. I just thought about that.
Ryan Lemon
There you go.
Drew
And Mark Pope zoomed with him.
Matt Jones
That's interesting. Mark Pope zoomed with Zoom about playing the zoom.
Caller Mark Anthony
Yep.
Drew
I mean, what a head. What a pretzel. That just put my head in.
Matt Jones
Yeah, we're going to have that. Jimmy Dyke's going to make a joke about that this year, isn't he?
Drew
Oh, Zoom running Zoom Zoom action. Just give him the nickname.
Matt Jones
So that's not today. Today's gonna be like pre holiday fun. So I wanna start with something that I think everybody has a strong opinion about. Everyone listening to this show is going to have a very strong opinion about this topic. And it came up yesterday. I don't know if you saw. You know, in. In major cities, there's worry that during this little heat wave, the power grid is going to run out.
Caller Mark Anthony
Right.
Matt Jones
Not necessarily a worry in Louisville or Lexington, but in like Houston and D.C. and Nashville and New York, people are kind of worried about that. So, you know, there's a question. What do you do in that scenario? Now, everyone's favorite mayor in Kentucky, Zoron, he came out and put up a post that said, hey, everybody, for the Fourth of July, do us a favor. Put your thermostat at 78. That's what he said. And online, everyone had Mario's face. 78. Are you crazy? So, first of all, I want to start with this question. In the summer, what do you normally set your thermostat at?
Ryan Lemon
I'm at like 70.
Boost Mobile Advertiser
71.
Matt Jones
71. That's what I go with. Is 71.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Sometimes, you know, my house got big open ceilings now.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
To keep the thing down. Saying, like, 73.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But I can tell a difference between 73 and 71.
Ryan Lemon
Absolutely.
Shannon
There's.
Matt Jones
And then upstairs, I don't have furniture yet. It's on 76. And I walk up there, and I'm like, whoa.
Ryan Lemon
So what about you?
Drew
Below 70? Might have it go below 7. Probably 68, 69. In the summer, if I'm going to bed, maybe even all the way down to 65 in the summer. I'm not doing it in the winter.
Shannon
Yeah.
Drew
In the summer, your electric bill's got
Matt Jones
to be ton, isn't it?
Drew
That's not too bad. And I make up for in the winter. I don't even turn on heat. Just. Just rock with what's outside.
Matt Jones
Oh, wait a minute. You don't use the heat?
Drew
I mean, if it gets real bad, but mostly no. So what, you all.
Matt Jones
So you're in the 60s all year?
Drew
Pretty much now. During the day, if I'm outside, I won't just leave it blasting. I'll turn it up to 73 if I'm, you know, mowing or something. But if I'm inside going to bed on the couch, it's.
Matt Jones
Do you like to be cold?
Drew
Yes.
Matt Jones
Okay. Shannon, what about you?
Shannon
I'm 73 during the day, 72 at night. One degree.
Matt Jones
You think that makes a big difference?
Shannon
I can tell it. I can tell a big difference.
Matt Jones
You're like, so you can lay in be. You're saying I could set your thermostat and you could tell me it's at 72 or it's 73.
Shannon
You know, it's a little warm in here, and I could go 73. Put it on 72. Perfect temperature.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So let's say Linda Gordon looked at you, the people of Lexington, and said, look, this weekend, we're in trouble. The good thing about Lexington is our power grid is not quite as worrisome because we are spread out. From what I understand, our power grid is not in, like, not as bad as some of these big cities.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Matt Jones
So I don't think you have to do this, but let's say Linda Gordon said, for the weekend, I need you folks to do me a favor. 78. Would you a do that? Or if not, would you at least turn it up a little bit for the community?
Ryan Lemon
That's what I would do. I would go up to maybe like 72, 73. But I'm not going to.
Matt Jones
You wouldn't go to 75? For the community.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, that's miserable.
Matt Jones
How are you going to be the mayor if you won't make any sacrifices
Ryan Lemon
for my new platform?
Matt Jones
That you're going to let the power grid explode?
Ryan Lemon
73 or under, but what then do
Matt Jones
you do if you have a blackout? We read about how New York, over the years, they've had blackouts. The blackout in 1977 produced a lot of babies.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
No, it set the city on fire,
Ryan Lemon
and they had a lot of babies.
Matt Jones
I think they were trying to get away from the fires.
Ryan Lemon
You just said, our power grid is safe in Lexington. So I'm like, Hey, 73.
Caller Mark Anthony
Say you were.
Matt Jones
Let's say it wasn't. Let's say that the people in chart. Your head of electric.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Matt Jones
Comes up to you and says, ryan Lemon.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
If people don't at least go to 75, the city of Lexington is going to be at a blackout on the Fourth of July. And so we'd like you to say 76. 77, because we know some people won't, and it'll average out to 75. Would you get on the television and say, I, Ryan Lemon, am asking you, people of Lexington. 70. 75.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. If the head of the electric department, Ku, came to me and said that I would have to do that as a leader.
Matt Jones
You're now saying you wouldn't do it if Linda Gordon, who presumably got the same message, sent it to you, but
Ryan Lemon
you said, our power grid's fine.
Matt Jones
I'm in a hypothetical world he can't get his head around. Like, he can't live in a hypothetical world. Shani's like, it's not what Landa Gordon radio show. I am saying to you, let's say we were in that world. Linda Gordon is saying to you, you have to do it or you don't have to. But we're asking you to do it.
Ryan Lemon
This give you my honest answer? I would try to get as close to 78 as I could, but at nighttime, I'm not doing it.
Matt Jones
So how can you expect, as mayor, people to listen to you if you won't listen to the mayor?
Ryan Lemon
Because I'm not right now. I'm not the mayor. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just Joe Masterson station.
Matt Jones
You know what? You're the worst person to play hypothetical games with on the planet.
Shannon
It's make believe, right?
Matt Jones
It's made. All right, so let's say Linda Gordon said it to you. What do you. I want you to be honest. What, are you setting your temperature?
Drew
I'd play along going all the way to 78. I'll be honest, I don't think I would do it, but I would not run it on 68. What I would normally do, I'd probably 73. I try 74, 75 as long as I could. But if I needed to go down a little bit, you know, I got fans, but I would.
Matt Jones
I would fans. I would try to be a part
Drew
of the community as best I could. I wouldn't be selfish.
Matt Jones
What about you?
Shannon
I'd be willing to go up a degree or two, maybe 74, 75, like Drew said. But here's my thought. If you don't do it and you get a blackout and it's 98 degrees,
Matt Jones
then you're going to wish you had done it. You're going to wish you had done
Shannon
it, you'd had your 75 degrees, because now your house is 95.
Matt Jones
That's exactly right. So here's what's interesting in theory on this show, by the way, I'm probably not going to 78. My house right now upstairs is like 75, 76. And I think I could deal with that. So I would do that. But here's what's interesting on this show in the range of selfishness, generally speaking, Ryan, people would say, Ryan the least selfish, Shannon the most selfish. Shannon's willing to do it. Drew's willing to do it, and Ryan, who wants to be mayor of a community, not willing to do it.
Ryan Lemon
I said I'd go up. I'm not gonna go to 78.
Matt Jones
You said you were gonna go up to 71.
Ryan Lemon
I never said that about this. In this scenario, what are you going to?
Shannon
How generous of you, Ryan. 71.
Matt Jones
What are you going to?
Ryan Lemon
I'm probably going to try to sneak up to 75, please.
Matt Jones
Oh, I don't know. Now he's backtracking.
Shannon
Yeah.
Caller Chase
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Ryan Lemon
So Drew brought the good thing, the fan. Like, I've got a fan in my room right now. Josiah's got a fan in his room. So we just crank some fans.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean, when I was a kid, when we first moved into the house, we didn't have central air. So like the. Like my parents room was the only one that had air conditioning in. The whole house had a window unit.
Tony Ayo
Yes.
Matt Jones
And we would all really hot days. We would all just go sit in there and then. Or. But then you'd have a fan.
Caller Mark Anthony
Right.
Matt Jones
So just an interesting thing.
Ryan Lemon
Ceiling fan and a fan.
Matt Jones
I think Ryan's chances of being Mayor Shannon are solely based on whether he talks about Issues. As long as he doesn't, I think he can win.
Shannon
Every time he talks about being.
Matt Jones
Every time he talks about. Exactly right. They get much worse.
Drew
He's the candidate that won't do debates, won't show up. Just running on his name and his signs in the yard.
Matt Jones
Brian Lemon, a name you know, just
Ryan Lemon
put up signs everywhere. It's all you need.
Matt Jones
All right, second thing yesterday, Aaron Goldhammer. Do you know who that is?
Ryan Lemon
Do not know who that is.
Matt Jones
He's a radio host in Cleveland. He also does some stuff on ESPN Radio.
Caller Mark Anthony
He.
Matt Jones
His family's from Louisville, so he was in town.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Matt Jones
And so I went to meet him for dinner and I did something I haven't done in many years. But you're gonna remember the last time I did it. I went to Norton Commons.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, my.
Drew
That's your area.
Matt Jones
So I haven't been there since like 2021. And remember, we started. We learned about upside down pineapples and we learned about all that.
Ryan Lemon
Yep.
Matt Jones
I got to say to all of you in the state, I. I mean, this. This is not. I'm not blasting on Norton Comets. Matter of fact, I walked around with Aaron a little bit, and we have a lot of fans there. A lot of people came up. So I'm not. I'm not anti Norton Commons. Those of you who live in Louisville, Shannon, have you been to Norton Commons ever?
Shannon
I don't think I have exactly.
Matt Jones
I think a lot of people don't because it's kind of tucked away. Like, you gotta want to get there, Shannon. Right. Like there no reason to go unless you've got. Unless you're there or somebody there.
Ryan Lemon
Have you been drove through it on the way to the golf course. I scrambled our golf scramble.
Matt Jones
But now that wasn't the residential part. You just drove through the.
Ryan Lemon
My GPS took me through, like the bunch of town homes there and.
Matt Jones
Okay, but you didn't go through the business part.
Ryan Lemon
I don't think so.
Matt Jones
Have you?
Drew
I've been. It's been a few years, but I've been in the last three or four years.
Matt Jones
Here's what I would say to everybody in the state. Next time you come to Louisville, just go to Norton Common. Just look it up. It's like the Truman show has been put in Kentucky for about four blocks. Shannon, you wouldn't think you were in Kentucky. It is. It's the Truman Show. Everything is like an architecture that you would find nowhere else in the state. It has one of every business, just like the Truman Show. There's a fish restaurant there's a chicken restaurant, there's a steak restaurant, there's a Pilates place, there's an ice cream. But there's only one of everything. It's like they collectively.
Drew
One barber, one hair salon, one dentist.
Matt Jones
There is a dentist, and they're all in a thing. And every house, every house has an American flag in perfect yards. They all are mowed by the same guy who I think mows him at the same moment.
Drew
I think he mows. I think he uses scissors. That's how nice they are.
Matt Jones
Every one person you walk has the same smile on their face. Well, hello, neighbor.
Drew
I think you get kicked out if you don't wave when you're walking down
Ryan Lemon
the street one way. Everybody have a dog.
Matt Jones
They're all dogs. And everyone has a golf cart. There are no cars. You drive a car, they look at you saying, like, get out of here, stranger.
Shannon
It's a golf cart.
Matt Jones
It's a golf cart. Everyone's got golf carts of all ages. Old people driving golf carts. Kids are driving golf carts. Babies are driving golf carts. It's the oddest place I've ever been. It's as if, like, a beach community got dropped into. Into Louisville. And the fact that it's just a few miles away from, like, Frankfurt Avenue, it's the craziest thing. And I never, you know, I've only. This is only the second time I've ever been. But, Ryan, it's not like anything. Like, it's not a part of our human world. Norton Commons.
Ryan Lemon
So are the myths true or not about Norton?
Matt Jones
I didn't see couples exchanging themselves on the street.
Ryan Lemon
Did you see any upside down pineapples?
Matt Jones
I didn't. And I looked. I think maybe all the talk about it has made people pull it off their.
Drew
Okay, they found a new symbol that we don't know.
Matt Jones
I saw people walking the streets that I think probably participate.
Shannon
Oh, yeah. Looking at them.
Drew
Business.
Matt Jones
Late 40s, early 50 couples. Their kids just went off to college. Maybe. Yeah, Maybe.
Shannon
Yeah. I could. Yeah. You know, when you, you know, when
Matt Jones
you know, you know, when you, when you know, you know.
Shannon
Yeah.
Drew
Are all the business signs out there, like, real simple and kind of.
Matt Jones
You know how in Pineville every sign looks the same? We've talked about that. That's Norton Commons. Every. Every guy, every sign was done by the same guy. It was during the U.S. men's soccer game and people were in the bars. But Drew, in a very orderly way, they were going, go usa. Just a. Just immaculately different place. In Kentucky.
Drew
You use Truman Show. It's also like I don't know if y' all watched it but the paradise where they built the town to get away from like the big catastrop. They like built a little small town James Marsden show and it's just like Norton Commons it looks like.
Matt Jones
So I would say to you go there, park your car on the outset because if you drive a car they will shoot you.
Ryan Lemon
But how do they treat outsiders? Are they just.
Matt Jones
They're very well, they're very nice to me. I don't know how they but they're like seven, seven restaurants each of them orderly system to eat.
Ryan Lemon
I wonder how they treat like if we just the public just started showing up these places they well I hope
Matt Jones
you do to see what happens.
Drew
You got to smile and wave.
Matt Jones

Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. The text machine is 772-774-5254. One person writes, how does Drew think he can win Survivor if he can't handle over 70 degrees?
Drew
I didn't say I couldn't handle it. I just choose to put it on there because I can really. I just want to be comfortable.
Matt Jones
Remember when Ashley Madison had their data breach? It caused Norton Commons to nearly split apart. Oh, Shannon feels like a hotbed.
Shannon
I think their power grid went down.
Matt Jones
Their website crashed, by the way, during that comment. Yeah, during our conversation.
Ryan Lemon
The Norton Commons one there.
Matt Jones
Apparently there's a Norton Commons website. It crashed during the middle of the conversation.
Drew
I think they like when we talk about them.
Matt Jones
Well, they were, let me just say they were very nice to me. Like, no, like a lot of KSR fans. So I, you know, I take this with some trepidation.
Drew
I mean it would be some easy living over there. It seems you just walked everything, everything's clean.
Matt Jones
You could walk. I mean you could walk to everything. Like there were like two pubs. One was a Wings place. One was like a pub place you could go. For those of you that are drinkers, you could drink walk back home. I don't think you can get on your golf cart. You can still get a DUI on a golf cart. They also have their own Stonehenge.
Ryan Lemon
What?
Matt Jones
You know what?
Drew
Stuck in their own history.
Matt Jones
Like that stones with like thing. They had their own one.
Ryan Lemon
Like in the middle of the complex,
Matt Jones
there's like a little park and there was, I walked over, I was like, what that it's a Stonehenge.
Shannon
It's less cool though if it's man made because Stonehenge is not.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but it is in it.
Ryan Lemon
Made by alien aliens.
Matt Jones
Oh, well, it's not made by aliens, but it has to be man made. Rocks don't just grow up with stuff on them.
Drew
Somebody had to stack them and man couldn't do it back then.
Matt Jones
Yeah, because they're strong.
Caller Chase
All right.
Ryan Lemon
It's like their landing spot for the alien spaceships.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I don't think that's true. You had to be excited. The USA won last night with our fishing shirt coach there.
Drew
You like his shirt?
Matt Jones
His shirt cracks me up. Who buttons their shirt in the middle?
Drew
He's been wearing that.
Matt Jones
But he only has one button. He only. But he buttons one button right above his belly button and lets it hang open above and below. That's an amazing look to me and I'm surprised.
Drew
Like Nike or Adidas don't make him wear some apparel. Like he's just rocking regular.
Caller Mark Anthony
Dude.
Matt Jones
Apparently they looked it up. That shirt is $500. Yeah, that's a kind of expensive Hugo Boss shirt.
Drew
Well, we love him.
Matt Jones
He's. Anyone else that rocks. The one button above the belly button. None above, none below.
Drew
No, not at all.
Shannon
He's got a sports jacket on. But it's his shirt.
Matt Jones
Yes, it's button like a sports jacket, but it's a shirt and he wears the T shirt under it.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew
Well, he's turned us around.
Matt Jones
We're looking good. Were you mad that our guy got kicked out?
Ryan Lemon
He's like our best striker, right? He's the best player.
Matt Jones
Did you just use the word striker?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, he looked really good on the, on the pitch last night. He's one of our best players on the pitch.
America 250 Announcer 2
Look at you.
Matt Jones
Did you see Harry Henri?
Ryan Lemon
He and the new kits that they have, they really look sharp.
Shannon
Did you watch what Billy said on the pre show? Did you hear Billy talking?
Matt Jones
Hang on. Was that your opinion or did you hear it from Billy?
Ryan Lemon
Well, I may have listened to the pre show prep and Billy was quite upset about this striker being kicked. I got a red card. Now he can't play in the next game.
Matt Jones
Now the rules apparently are that he can't play in the next time. Did you think he deserved it?
Drew
No, not at all. You got to have a little bit of intent and I hate that. Like we get so excited. There's so many people that don't watch soccer and they're tuned in and that's how soccer rewards. This new audience is showing one of the worst parts of soccer of how I hate that rule. With a red card, one mistake can cost you a game. At least with like two yellows you did something twice. But one bang bang play cost him
Matt Jones
and your next 10 on 11.
Drew
Yeah, I like we played. Still played pretty aggressive even, going 10 on 11. But I absolutely hated it like everyone else. The replay, the var, whatever they called it, I think without that. I mean, the. When you watch it live in real time, it looked like nothing, just like a collision.
Matt Jones
So are you getting excited about it?
Ryan Lemon
They play Belgium next, right?
Matt Jones
Play Belgium. Who we have not beaten since 1930. Shannon, I feel like we're due.
Shannon
Are you okay? What's happening in there?
Drew
I don't even know what that was. Yeah, it landed on me.
Matt Jones
All right. Is everybody okay?
Shannon
The studio falling apart.
Matt Jones
The studio is falling apart while we are.
Ryan Lemon
Look at that.
Matt Jones
A big piece of the studio just fell on Drew.
Caller Mark Anthony
It did.
Matt Jones
All right, hang in there. The studio is literally falling apart. But we haven't beaten Belgium since 1930.
Ryan Lemon
Now, the United States ever been this far?
Matt Jones
Once, I think.
Caller Chase
No, no, no.
Matt Jones
We've been to the final 16 a few times. We've only been to the final eight, I think, one time. Okay, one time.
Ryan Lemon
So it's big.
Matt Jones
It is big. Yes, it is big.
Ryan Lemon
And where will it be? They keep moving.
Matt Jones
I think they're in Seattle.
Ryan Lemon
Well, they had good crowds in Seattle. They were crazy in Seattle when they played.
Matt Jones
Yeah. No, we'll have a great crowd advantage. Belgium is one of the teams. When I went to the Euros, I followed, so I actually know some of those guys. Not personally, but I.
Ryan Lemon
What's the scouting report? Can we beat them?
Drew
They're lucky to be in it. They were down.
Matt Jones
They were down two goals with, like, six minutes to go and scored quickly and then one in overtime. They have a guy whose name is, like, Malaku, who's, like, this legend there. He's the one that scored their goal yesterday. I'd say they're probably a little better than us, but we certainly have a chance to beat them. Drew at home, definitely.
Drew
We're a slight favorite on. On DraftKings, but it's pretty close. Yeah. I mean, they cheated to beat Senegal, so I feel like we have cheated. Yeah.
Shannon
They.
Drew
They called a game a penalty case.
Matt Jones
Right? They did.
Drew
Shouldn't have been just like us. Terrible call. So I feel like we do have to do it for the World Cup. We're the world versus Belgium right now because everyone was so upset with that.
Matt Jones
Are you into it, Shannon? Like, did you. First of all, did you watch the game?
Shannon
No.
Matt Jones
You didn't even watch.
Shannon
I turned it on, watched a little bit of it, and it's like, I can't.
Matt Jones
Mario, are you into it? No. Okay. Drew, are you into.
Drew
Course.
Matt Jones
But it seems like you're usually.
Drew
But it seems like everyone, these three people have got. I mean everyone I know has gotten
Matt Jones
4th street right outside our door last
Ryan Lemon
night for the soccer match.
Matt Jones
Oh my goodness. It was packed out here last night.
Ryan Lemon
On a big jumbo screen.
Matt Jones
They had it on the jumbo. All these bars were packed. The, the, the, the ground.
Caller Mark Anthony
The ground.
Matt Jones
The street on fourth street was packed. So like. Did you watch it?
Ryan Lemon
Not a second.
Drew
Okay, so I feel like so many new people are watching it, but these three.
Matt Jones
Why don't you all want to watch it? This is America. Be patriotic.
Ryan Lemon
I did want to know if they won or lost, but I didn't watch it.
Matt Jones
Not one second.
Ryan Lemon
It was on.
Matt Jones
All right, so Belgium. I think it's going to be on Sunday.
Ryan Lemon
Monday.
Drew
I think Monday at 8.
Matt Jones
Monday, Monday at 8. Okay, so it's going to be on your normal. Like you'll be at home. Will you watch that?
Ryan Lemon
Probably not.
Shannon
Championship.
Matt Jones
How far can they go before you'll watch it?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, probably the championship match.
Matt Jones
You wouldn't watch the Elite eight against Spain, one of the best teams in the world.
Ryan Lemon
If it's on and I'm sitting in front of the tv, I might watch a little bit of it.
Matt Jones
What did you watch instead? Last.
Ryan Lemon
Didn't watch anything.
Matt Jones
Just stare off into space. What did you do?
Ryan Lemon
Well, we had a birthday dinner last night. We went for birthday cake. Dane's birthday was yesterday.
Drew
I saw that. Happy birthday, Dane.
Matt Jones
We made him wear a sombrero.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, of course. Went to birthday cake. And then I had to go home. I had to pack for my big trip and do some laundry. Okay, so zero watching.
Matt Jones
So you're gonna be at Hilton Head.
Ryan Lemon
Correct.
Matt Jones
Sit at the beach and watch Belgium.
Ryan Lemon
I don't know if I get a TV there on the beach.
Matt Jones
Your timeshare doesn't include a television on the beach.
Ryan Lemon
It doesn't. But maybe inside the, the timeshare, you
Matt Jones
are just, you know, you've been gone so long, I forget what a bizarre creature you are. 859-280-2287. We will take your calls and be right back. Kentucky Sports Radio.

More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
I love this song. Yeah, I mean, I said John Anderson, Shannon, because I know you're a John Anderson fan as well.
Shannon
Yeah, huge John Anderson fan. He's my all time favorite when it comes to country music.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you got to play Wild and Blue. Cause that's, that's you. You and I both like that one. One person Writes on the text machine. Matt, do you agree with the decision by the US Team to start playing Country Roads as our celebration song? That's kind of become a thing now. When we win, they play Country Roads. That was obviously West Virginia song. Drew, are you good with that becoming kind of the American theme song, or do you think we should pick something else as a nation?
Drew
I'm fine with it. That crowd looked awesome. I mean, our coaches from Argentina. And even he's mumbling the words. I don't know how many of you knew, but he was trying. I would have loved to have been in that stadium when they were singing it. So I'm fine with. I mean, what else we can do? Toby Keith, Lee Greenwood, you know, not Lee Greenwood.
Matt Jones
Not Lee Greenwood.
Drew
So I'm fine with it. I thought. I thought it was very cool. And the team plays Ella Langley in the locker room.
Matt Jones
I'd take Country Roads over that, but I like it.
Caller Chase
I like it.
Matt Jones
What about you? You good with that?
Ryan Lemon
I'm definitely good with it. Or something about that song that does. I feel like it's American.
Matt Jones
Say West Virginia.
Shannon
Yeah. That doesn't represent us.
Matt Jones
It represents one of the 50 states.
Ryan Lemon
I understand. John Denver. The song is really about the state of Virginia, just the western part of the state.
Matt Jones
I know we talked about that the other day, but should be doing this, Walker. It works for us.
Drew
They also played some Elvis, maybe a little Sinatra. I mean, it sounded. Sound like a good playlist.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it looked like an awesome, awesome thing. The. The games have been amazing. 859-280-2287. I said, I tell you what, we'll go to a call. Before I do, I want to do a UK basketball topic, but who's up first?
Shannon
Mark Anthony.
Matt Jones
Mark Anthony, go ahead.
Caller Mark Anthony
Hey, good morning, Matthew.
Caller Chase
Fellas.
Caller Mark Anthony
Hey, Matthew. I've watched a little bit of this World cup thing, and I noticed that most of the coaches like to dress to the nine. They do, wearing designer this, that. And our coach looks like he just got done installing somebody's water heater and then pulled his PL truck up on the sidewalk to coach the team. I mean, it's a different look.
Matt Jones
It is.
Caller Mark Anthony
I like it.
Matt Jones
I said, he looks like he's going fishing, but he's, like, Argentinian. You know, I'm with you. What is happening?
Drew
I keep hearing that. I'm making sure I'm not crazy. We good?
Ryan Lemon
What is that?
Drew
I got stuff falling on me. There's. Okay.
Matt Jones
Sorry, Mark Anthony. It's just our building is shaking right now, but go ahead.
Caller Mark Anthony
Okay. On your AC. My AC said it's 76 because Ms. Boo won't have it any lower than that. But do you have ceiling fans in your new house?
Matt Jones
No.
Caller Mark Anthony
Oh, get yourself some box fans. Set them up, turn them on. Oh, you need to get the air to move. That's all. Set your AC on 76. Leave your blinds closed. And I know they are closed because
Matt Jones
I can't open them.
Caller Mark Anthony
Yeah, that's good. That's good. But get the air to move. If you got ceiling fans, turn them on. Well, they hardly use any electricity. And then put your AC on 76. And the magic of air conditioning removes the humidity from the air as it cools it. So that's half the battle right there. I'm 76 and I feel good inside.
Matt Jones
So that's good enough for Mark Anthony. It's good enough for me. I appreciate the call.
Ryan Lemon
When I am not at the house, my son sneaks into my room, into the thermostat and lowers it to 65. I come in, and his house is like an ice box. Like, dude, what are you doing?
Matt Jones
And then your bill, sky high. It's got to be crazy, right?
Ryan Lemon
So I'm sure this week when I'm gone, it's going to be down to 65.
Matt Jones
My pole in my net came in.
Drew
Oh, nice.
Matt Jones
So I've been. I'm today clean. Most of the gnats are gone because they feel. What happened, Shannon, is it rained so much, the water went above the level of the skimmers.
Shannon
My pool guy told me the bugs came out.
Matt Jones
So the bugs, they couldn't skim them out.
Drew
So the bugs.
Matt Jones
Because the. Because it rained so much in Lexington. That's why he told me it happened.
Ryan Lemon
You're going to be out doing now
Matt Jones
I have a poll. I think I'm going to scoop just for fun, be good.
Drew
Time for Shannon hit the scoop drop. We got Scoop Jones Scoop Lemon. We got all the scoops.
Matt Jones
Who's next?
Tony Ayo
Shannon?
Matt Jones
Lincoln. Go ahead, Lincoln.
Caller Lincoln
Hey, Hunters.
Matt Jones
Hey.
Caller Mark Anthony
The.
Caller Lincoln
The way that Ryan was talking about soccer in the last segment, you would think that somebody slept at a Holiday Inn Express.
Matt Jones
And it's true. With the strikers and the pitch and
Ryan Lemon
the kitchens and the kids.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller Lincoln
Well, hey, and another thing with the World Cup, Mark Anthony mentioned how all the coaches are dressing. I really think everybody would look good in brown. Have they thought about trying brown suit?
Matt Jones
They should. They should try that. The brown suit thing is taken off to know, like, people are sending me every time they wear brown, they send me pictures of them wearing brown. Asking if they can come to the wedding. I mean, Billy's wedding has become the second biggest wedding of the summer next to Taylor and Travis.
Drew
It's definitely one of those topics that hasn't gone away.
Matt Jones
And it's not going away. It's only going to ramp up, ramp up. I think we got to get those
Drew
tailored shirts, garden shoes.
Caller Lincoln
I think he should try and get some sponsorship money from ups. Maybe a little nil deal. Something just to get it done. But hey, you guys have a great day. Love the summer shows. Go.
Matt Jones
Appreciate it.
Ryan Lemon
We have headphones on and we're still hearing that.
Matt Jones
I don't know what is going on. Is there an attack occurring?
Shannon
I don't know.
Matt Jones
My goodness. Okay, so there was a topic online that I wanted to move to the radio show.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Matt Jones
All right. So the topic online yesterday was this. If you look at the history of UK basketball, who are the most obscure UK basketball players of all time? They were on the team, but for whatever reason, not remembered, or people might not even recognize the name. So to me, there are two categories of this. There's scholarship player and walk on player. Okay. People online were debating him. Here's my criteria. Patino or sooner. Because if we go before that, there's gonna be a lot of people that there might be great players I haven't heard of. So Patino or sooner, who is the most obscure player? Now, I will say two people you cannot mention are a couple of the guys that were on Patino's first team because people every always forget them. Michael Parks.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
What was the other guy? There were two of them
Shannon
so obscure you can't even remember.
Matt Jones
One of them's name was Michael, but there was another one. He just used it to fill out the roster.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I can't remember.
Matt Jones
I can't remember. But let's start with. Let's start with walk on. Who do you think is the most obscure walk on to ever play at this school?
Ryan Lemon
Billy had like five on that one team. Didn't he be one of those?
Spinquest Advertiser
He did.
Matt Jones
So which one do you think is the most obscure?
Drew
Adam. Del.
Matt Jones
That's a.
Ryan Lemon
That's a good one.
Matt Jones
That's a good one. I didn't. You know, he was.
Drew
He's from Louisville.
Matt Jones
Prp.
Drew
See Cows Walk ons were pretty popular. They had their own branding a little bit. So you got to go pretty far.
Matt Jones
Is a really good one. See, that was not going to be my pick, but I kind of wonder if that one's better. That's a good, good call. What was. Okay.
Drew
What's yours?
Ryan Lemon
What's the kid's name? He was from lca. That ended up, I think, quitting even before the season was over.
Matt Jones
Lca?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, he played at lca. I can't remember his name.
Matt Jones
There wasn't a kid from lca, was there? I think there was a little talking about Matt Sherbinski. He's not that obscure. He was on the team for a few years and he's a coach too. And I. He might have gone to lca and
Ryan Lemon
maybe it's who it was.
Matt Jones
What was the kid from Pikeville? Landon Sloan.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, Landon Sloan.
Matt Jones
My pick. Although I think Adam Delft might be better. My pick was Donald Williams.
Drew
Big Don Williams guy, the big unit, transferred from Ole Miss.
Matt Jones
That's Mike Morquino Williams. A good contender for the scholarship one.
Caller Chase
Yes.
Matt Jones
Donald Williams, if you remember, was Josh Harrelson's best friend.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, yeah.
Drew
No, no, that's Buddy Housel.
Matt Jones
Oh, Buddy Housel.
Drew
Donald Williams transferred from Ole Miss.
Matt Jones
Nevermind, I changed my vote. Buddy.
Drew
He came with jorts.
Matt Jones
How many people do you think remember Buddy Housel other than me could never
Ryan Lemon
have thought of that name.
Matt Jones
That's even more obscure than Adam Delft. Because Adam Delft was from Kentucky. Buddy Housel is even more obscure. Can you think of anybody more obscure than Buddy Housel? As a walk on.
Ryan Lemon
As I said, it had to be one of those.
Matt Jones
It's Josh Harrelson's.
Drew
Buddy came from Missouri with him.
Matt Jones
Okay, Missouri. Now, most obscure scholarship player
Ryan Lemon
was Jason Latham. A scholarship player?
Matt Jones
He was. I don't think that's a bad one. But he was on the national championship team, so people might know him because
Drew
of that Stacy Poole Jr.
Matt Jones
The tried outs, I think know him. Adam Williams, but he won the dunk contest. What about Nate Knight?
Ryan Lemon
That's a good one.
Drew
Good one.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, because he left for the season, was even half over, I think.
Matt Jones
Yes, Nate Knight, although his brother was very famous.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
Anyone else?
Drew
People forget Raquel and Sims. He played a little bit. Good one.
Matt Jones
Raquel and Sims.
Drew
He played a little.
Matt Jones
Remember his picture? The very first picture we ever saw.
Drew
It's another juco guy.
Matt Jones
I like Raquel and Sims. Was Donald Williams a scholarship player?
Drew
I kind of think he was. I have to look that one up. If he's a scholarship player, he's the answer.
Matt Jones
If he's a scholarship player, he's definitely the answer.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I kind of feel like he was.
Matt Jones
Then he might be the guy. Anyone else? Is there anyone that was only on the team, maybe quit after a few days or like, you know, a few games.
Drew
What was Carrie Benson? Was he scholarship or Walk on.
Matt Jones
Carrie Benson.
Drew
He's local to Louisville, isn't he?
Matt Jones
That was a Billy guy, I think a Billy walk on. The other walk on on that team was Jarvis Walker, Antoine's cousin.
Drew
I think we had a Jarvis Walker on football at the same time we had one on basketball.
Ryan Lemon
Boy, you're pulling some names out that I haven't thought of.
Matt Jones
Name you just said again.
Drew
You know, I gotta look him up, see if he was.
Matt Jones
Carrie Benson is in content.
Ryan Lemon
That's the winner for the walk on.
Drew
Played at Louisville or from Louisville. From prp.
Matt Jones
Was he a scholarship or not?
Drew
Trying to look it up. I'm going to guess walk on being Billy.
Matt Jones
All right. I like Davis.
Ryan Lemon
I'm trying to think walk ons in the Tubby era. Dwight Perry. Bobby Perry's.
Matt Jones
Yeah. But he started an NCAA tournament.
Ryan Lemon
Had to start because they messed up the schedule.
Matt Jones
So he definitely is not it. He's very well known. And he's a head coach, isn't he?
Ryan Lemon
He is now. Like at firm. Not at firm.
Drew
Tournament.
Matt Jones
He made the tournament.
Ryan Lemon
Wofford. That's it.
Shannon
Looking at the 2008, 2009 roster.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Shannon
Mark Hustle.
Matt Jones
Do you know who that's Buddy. That's Buddy. His friends called him Buddy.
Shannon
Mark on.
Matt Jones
I thought that was a Buddy House.
Shannon
Okay.
Matt Jones
That's all right.
Drew
We had some.
Matt Jones
You have better ones. One vote for Bernard Cote.
Ryan Lemon
I remember him because he was a scholarship player.
Matt Jones
Yes. And he was Canadian.
Ryan Lemon
Yes. He was Hip Hip Cote.
Matt Jones
Hip Hip Cote played a little bit too. Whether your plans involve the lake, the pool or a cookout, it's hot and sunny and you need sunglasses. Ryan Lemon
I love that song.
Matt Jones
That would be a really good song. After you win the game, everyone would dance.
Ryan Lemon
Yes. Do the whole thing.
Shannon
They would dance to this song.
Matt Jones
This song. Just stop, Shane. Oh, come on, stop.
Shannon
It's a great song.
Matt Jones
What did you just tell me about Donald Williams?
Caller Lincoln
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Imagine you played this after you won and all the players would sing along to it.
Ryan Lemon
Coach would sing.
Matt Jones
Yes. I like that idea. What were you gonna say?
Drew
Doing my Donald Williams research during the break, I found an old story from when he committed that says Billy Gillespie views him as a replacement for Joe Crawford.
Matt Jones
I don't think that disrespectful to Joe Crawford. It is Jody Thompson.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, that's a good one. He was from Kentucky.
Matt Jones
Was from Pikeville, wasn't he?
Ryan Lemon
I think he was.
Drew
And I've got to put some respect on Skip McGaugh from Madisonville. That was the walk on. I should have. I should have known that.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Skip McGough.
Drew
It's a Madisonville guy.
Matt Jones
Joey Hart.
Drew
Joey Hart, dunk contest champion. He was a scholarship.
Matt Jones
And that's a cow guy.
Drew
Yeah, Cal gave him a scholarship.
Matt Jones
Joey Hart. When they do this show in 20 years, the next generation of this show, Joey Hart's gotta be one of the answers. How many people do you think even have a Joey Hart memory?
Ryan Lemon
I forgot. He won the dunk contest. Like Drew just said, he's gotta be the most obscure of the Cal era for sure.
Drew
And Cal, like recruited him and he ended up at Ball State after Kentucky to show how the end of that
Matt Jones
era was going to Joey Hart. He's the most obscure of the Cali.
Caller Lincoln
I think.
Matt Jones
So this is a good question. Who's the most obscure good player at Kentucky? I have a couple suggestions. What's his face? Jason Parker. Jason Parker went for like 25 against Carolina.
Ryan Lemon
Hurt his knee during Big Blue Madness.
Matt Jones
You think anybody even knows what he looks like?
Ryan Lemon
Probably not.
Matt Jones
Can you in your mind right now picture Jason Parker who went for like 20 against Carolina in a game we won on the road?
Ryan Lemon
See, I can't. That's back when I was in the thick of it.
Matt Jones
So you remember what he looks like?
Drew
Yeah, I can kind of picture like his UK athletics photo. But I mean, if you not. I don't have a memory of him playing in a game.
Matt Jones
Can I give you a guy that I think is very obscure, that was really good here and is still good? I don't think fans have any memory or ever bring up Isaiah Jackson.
Drew
Yeah, when you were gone last summer, we did a draft and he was my number one overall pick for best forgotten player.
Matt Jones
I don't think anyone ever mentions him. And he's been in the NBA for seven years.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
He's a first round pick.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
And even when we talk about that team, we talk about BJ Boston or Terence Clark, no one mentions him.
Drew
I remember him wanting him to play more. I don't. He didn't even really start a lot of the year, if I'm not mistaken.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, he was like.
Drew
He was played out of position. I remember we were frustrated with how Cal was using him, whatever it was.
Matt Jones
Sasha Kalea Jones played two years.
Ryan Lemon
I have zero Memory of him playing.
Matt Jones
Dude, he had one game. I feel like for us, that he played well. That he played. He came off the bench and I want to say, like, he played really well. Do you vaguely remember that?
Drew
Didn't. Is he the one that got like a death threat from a Louisville fan? I think he might have been one that had some. Got caught up in the rivalry a little more. Went to NC State.
Matt Jones
Carlos Toomer.
Ryan Lemon
Carlos Toomer's another one.
Matt Jones
Early days of KSR was a legend because he would write poems.
Drew
The guy. That's good. Do people remember that?
Matt Jones
You don't remember that?
Ryan Lemon
No.
Matt Jones
Carlos Toomer had a blog where he wrote poems, and we would do the Carlos Toomer poem of the day, and they were poems named after his teammate.
Ryan Lemon
We should bring that back.
Matt Jones
He took them off the Internet, but. But he. He played along with it. But he had poems that were like named Darren Feldhouse.
Ryan Lemon
Awesome.
Caller Chase
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Who's next? Shannon.
Shannon
Let's go to Chase.
Matt Jones
Chase. Go ahead, Chase.
Caller Chase
Hey, guys. I'm down here in Shannon, the dudes favorite place in Panama City, Florida. But I was wondering for this weekend, with it being the 4th of July, who would be your favorite Kentucky Wildcats. That any sport that you would invite to your fourth of July cookout? Mine would be Anthony Davis, John Wall and Dane Keysome.
Matt Jones
Why Anthony Davis and John Wall?
Caller Chase
Just because I grew up with them and I'm in the. As you all know, the age range.
Matt Jones
But don't you think you would kind of fanboy out a little bit with them?
Caller Chase
Well, they're just all. They've just always been some of my favorite players. Yeah. What they've done for Kentucky, that way I could get Ron so I could get rid of the cookout. But I also enjoy dang he during the Stoops era.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right. Well, thank you, Chase. For me, rukosh, Randy and DeMarcus. If he promises not to hit me since he's been. Since the last time he made a statement, he was mad.
Drew
I got to have Willie there. Willie and I would have fun together. Maybe too much fun. One could argue.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew
Who's running the grill?
Matt Jones
I got to get one first.
Ryan Lemon
That's why I'm inviting Dante, because he's a good grill master.
Shannon
Are you more of a charcoal guy or a gas grill guy? Matt?
Matt Jones
You know, I could be convinced to go either way.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, that's what I hear.
Drew
That's a good thing. One of the bad.
Simon Malls Advertiser
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean, you get some. There's some. There's some positives.
Ryan Lemon
Charcoal positive.
Matt Jones
The char Flavoring.
Drew
There you go. Good, good flavor.
Matt Jones
Natural gas. Probably easier to do. Don't clean up as much. Yeah, I know.
Shannon
You know, hook it up, turn it on.
Matt Jones
Listen, don't get me with specifics. I'm chills trying to get my blinds up.
Drew
I'm probably getting a second grill this weekend. You want to go with me?
Matt Jones
No, you have two. I think yours is good.
Shannon
Wendell's up next.
Matt Jones
Wendell, go ahead. Wendell, though.
Caller Mark Anthony
Yeah.
Caller Lincoln
West Virginia, Mountain mama.
Caller Mark Anthony
What are you thinking?
Caller Lincoln
That's almost as bad as Rocky Top, Tennessee.
Matt Jones
I. I'm kind of with you. I don't like. I feel like it's singling out one state, whereas a song that's about all of America is kind of more. Plus, I don't think they would have done it if they hadn't beaten us. I think part of the reason they're using it is because of the moment that happened after they beat us to go to the regional. You know what I mean? And so I don't know Kentucky Blue.
Ryan Lemon
What?
Caller Mark Anthony
Have you heard the new fight song, Kentucky Blue?
Matt Jones
No, I don't like songs. I appreciate the call. I don't like when people. The amount of people that send me. I've written a song about Kentucky. I can't do it. There was a time we used to play them, Shannon, and you would make fun of all of them.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And I felt like it broke people's hearts.
Shannon
The real T. Jones going to teach them back.
Matt Jones
That was a good song.
Shannon
Stop it. That's the. I'd rather hear Kentucky Joe than that.
Matt Jones
No, I wouldn't. I love the real T. Jones, but people send me like blue is in my heart. I love blue.
Drew
Have you heard Benny Snell?
Matt Jones
I can't because I don't want to be mean and all and like. So I can't play them. So, yes, I. People put out those songs all the time and I just. They send them to me. I just. I can't do it. We'll take a break. Our number two's KSR this July 4th,
