Nmlsconsumeraccess.Org welcome into hour two of the first episode of KSR of 2026. Drew Franklin driving the show here with Ryan Lemon beside me after we took a little day off during vacation season.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
But we're back today to recap all the news. A lot of news. Ryan Lemon almost called you. Nick Roush, who was to my left.
Nick Roush
Hey, that's me.
Drew Franklin
We've had a lot to get to. I want to hear more from the callers on the Clark's Pump and shop phone line. 502-280-228, 7859. I said 502.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Did I do that earlier too? I think I did.
Ryan Lemon
I didn't catch it.
Drew Franklin
I think I did because I'm getting the A vision glass. You've programmed that damn number. See a vision glass text machine. 5027-3635-8035-3680. My goodness. What is going on? Let's just start from the top. Welcome in hour two, KSR Troy Franklin here with Ryan Lemon and Nick Roush. It is the first show of 20. Took yesterday off to celebrate the new year. Watch a lot of football. Had a lot of football. But now we're recapping the news. Things like the Boli transfer. We had to wait a little bit too long into the show to talk about the women's basketball win. I apologize again, especially to our caller who called us on the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line at 859-280-2287.
Ryan Lemon
There we go.
Drew Franklin
And you can text us on the A vision glass text machine which is in Ryan Lemon's hand. 502-735-3680. Have people been texting you? We haven't been using it. We say it, but we haven't been.
Ryan Lemon
I got a couple. You may ask you a couple. Do we lose Willie Rodriguez With Bowley leaving since the roommates.
Nick Roush
I heard a week ago, I don't know, before Christmas that things were looking good for Willie Rodriguez return. And then I also got that relayed to me again two or three days ago. So it seems like they have him locked up. And if you watched any of the Oregon game, they like to throw to their tight ends. Canyon City, huge. He had a couple. I don't know what the final stats were, but I think on the first drive the Titans had four receptions of their six pass plays. Did Kenyan Sadiq anytime touchdown?
Drew Franklin
He did not. I lost a little Money on the DraftKings app. The Crown was not mine on the Sadiq touchdown, but he was a big part of the offense.
Nick Roush
There was one play in particular too where I forget who it might have been. Lewis Reddick, who's. Oh, Kenyan Sadiq's right there. Dante Moore's got to throw it. He's wide open for the touchdown and instead he got sacked.
Drew Franklin
That's all right.
Nick Roush
I was thinking of you.
Drew Franklin
I had three touchdown scores in the Rose bowl, so it made up for my city class. You want to just talk a little college football playoffs since also some pretty big news.
Ryan Lemon
I'd love to talk about it.
Drew Franklin
Let's talk about there are four games. How the playoffs work one New Year's Eve. Guys, I gotta admit, I'm just gonna hand off the first game to you because I was at dinner during this game and when I got there, not complaining because I had a great time, but I did not have eyeballs on the television. I thought I might. Turns out I didn't. So Miami, I know they went up 14. Oh, I was doing some phone checking, saw the replay of the big interception return. But you are going to have to kind of take this one for me. How was Miami able to pull off the upset?
Nick Roush
Well, I do think part of it is in these four games you saw the importance of good kickers because Ole Miss doesn't win without their kicker. Ohio State, they have a chance to make a field goal. It was a very makeable field goal right before halftime that would have made it a seven point game. And ultimately that it felt like they needed those three points down the stretch and in a bad way. And I know Miami ended up pulling away, but the violence is just from all four games was what stood out to me and Miami in particular. That's the. The ACC is. It's a league that. I mean Stoops would just put him in a fricking Walker every year. And Dukes, Mayo or whatever bowl game it was. Right. Whether you're playing NC State or Virginia.
Drew Franklin
Tech, it's like Louisville for a long time.
Nick Roush
Oh yeah. Like we're just going to beat you up, up front because you can't compete with this. Mario Crystal Ball has got dudes on both sides of the trenches. And they. They got after Ohio State, they made him one dimensional and really Julian saying just didn't do the. Throw it to number four play enough. Like Jeremiah Smith. Just, just every play just throw it to him. And they didn't do that enough. They end up losing. And really the. The other thing I had from this game is. Ryan, did you. Did you see any of Michael Irvin on the sidelines?
Ryan Lemon
Was he there?
Drew Franklin
I did see somebody.
Ryan Lemon
Was Michael Irvin there at the game?
Nick Roush
They didn't show him enough on the broadcast.
Ryan Lemon
I didn't catch that. Maybe it was Ray Lewis there.
Nick Roush
They didn't show.
Drew Franklin
I think Michael Irvin needs some cornbread.
Danny Shapiro
Him.
Drew Franklin
We might need to calm down just a little. I think he's more of an upper than a downer.
Nick Roush
Okay. I like when they show McConaughey once and he does the hook them thing. It was too much Michael Irvin and the BTA celebration like that. That was lame before it ever even started. I mean, I'm not one to tell Michael Irvin what's cool and what's not. Clearly he. He's been much cooler for me for much longer. But that is him putting a jersey on a Gatorade cooler and just beating.
Drew Franklin
It while holding his pants up.
Ryan Lemon
Very.
Nick Roush
Just.
Drew Franklin
Well, he's got to be 60, right? Or close to it. Yeah, I'm going to say 60.
Nick Roush
I mean, he was playing for the Cowboys in the. He was at the end of his career in the late 90s. That was 30 years ago.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I'm going 60 on Michael Irvin, but he's a big part of the production. I did catch that much.
Ryan Lemon
He was. Yeah.
Danny Shapiro
It's just.
Drew Franklin
He's doing it the little last year with Miami. Does he just travel with the team?
Nick Roush
It's fun.
Danny Shapiro
It's just.
Nick Roush
There's like a line of like they. You could have way too much Michael Irvin and they get. They gave us way too much. Like we just, just dial it Back a little bit.
Drew Franklin
Like the.
Nick Roush
Him on the sidelines where he's. His legs are. He's on a knee and he's all stressed out. That's funny. The belt out. I don't, I don't need the belt out.
Drew Franklin
They're just.
Nick Roush
It's too much.
Drew Franklin
Leave your belt on. Ryan, don't tell us about your belt on New Year's Eve. But you mentioned you'd gone to bed early. Were you able to watch this?
Ryan Lemon
I saw was the fourth quarter. I mean, I really. That's, that's, that's why I saw him. Michael Irvin, between every play over there.
Nick Roush
In Ohio State, they had a chance. But the get. If Ohio State gets a stop, they get the ball back. They can go down the win. Instead, Miami was just like, we're going to run it down your throat.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Nick Roush
Which makes for a fascinating matchup for the next game because they're going to take on Ole Miss. That was a one of the. I like that. In the playoff now we're basically batting.500 on great games versus awful ones.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Well, in the new, you know, Wednesday and Thursday, whatever today is, we had the upset that we just named. We had a shutout.
Nick Roush
Yep.
Drew Franklin
We had Texas Tech. That was just a whooping. And then we had finally a thriller last night. We'll just go chronologically.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Drew Franklin
I didn't see Wednesday night. I was out ringing in the new year. I was locked in all day yesterday.
Ryan Lemon
I.
Drew Franklin
If I watched a snapping or missed a snapping those games, I don't know if I did. I was in my chair with my computer locked in. Cotton ball or. Excuse me, Orange bowl yesterday afternoon. Will Stein, you let it off right at noon. I'm glad we got to write to our Will Stein game. I did do more of a defensive performance from. From Oregon. They were moving the ball early. As you said. The offense was looking good with the tight ends. They just few coaching decisions le some points on the board. Not punching it in.
Nick Roush
Go for it guy. And I'm of the belief if you're going to be a go for it guy, just always be a go for it guy. And they did that. I mean, they left a lot of points on the board, but it didn't matter because Texas Tech's offense couldn't do anything.
Drew Franklin
Looked terrible. It made me think. I haven't watched a lot of Texas Tech. Just being honest. Wonder how they even got in the playoffs to begin with.
Nick Roush
Some of it is because Big 12 defenses are terrible and they were able to run on people. But they've had quarterback injury issues and I think more Baron Morton was hurt a little bit yesterday. Kind of looked that way. But there was a point where Oregon was plus two in the turnover margin the first half and was only up 3 nothing. That's how good Texas Tech's defense is. Like that defense is awesome. They are legit. So shout out to Oregon for finally capitalizing on that scoring some points. You know, I selfishly was like, just give me, give me Wolfstein here full time. But now like in part of it's because I didn't think Oregon was good enough to win at all. If you beat Indiana, you can win it all. I mean Indiana's. They play murder ball. I mean Signetti looks like a new Saban and it's terrifying.
Drew Franklin
Well, do we worry? You know, we're not. I'm not putting a ring on Will Stein's finger yet, but let's just say they finished the job. Motivation is a big part of our brand around here. As we saw last year, motivation was a big word. I don't know that I want him to already have a ring. You know, he's going to want to go get his own. But I want that hunger. I want him to get close and taste just a little. But not finish it so he can come finish it here in Lexington.
Nick Roush
You know, we need the college game day story or it's the Marty Smith sit down. And Will Stein, he remembers being in that tunnel and watching the confetti fall. And he said I got to get back here with Kentucky and they're going to play that feature right before the Cats are in the College Football Playoff.
Drew Franklin
It's going to be Rhodes lead to Lexington. That's just what he's waiting for for his national championship. They're moving on though.
Nick Roush
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Good look. Good look for Oregon and a defensive. You mentioned Texas Tech felt bad they weren't getting help. That front seven was rocking Oregon early.
Nick Roush
Yeah, but wasn't as bad as Alabama got rocked in the Rose bowl in the afternoon. I mean that was. I let my buddy Adam Walkett convinced.
Drew Franklin
Me that Me too.
Nick Roush
Caitlin DeBoer and little Obama were gonna. We're gonna get it done right? Because DeBoer wins those games. He's awesome. As in matchups. Top twin matchups. And it could have been a big moment for Indiana. And the other part too. I watch all those teams with buys get beat. So my brain, I was a little like, oh, no.
Drew Franklin
Oh. And six.
Nick Roush
They were.06 at that point. And then Indiana just steamrolled him. Bama bench Ty Simpson so bad they pinched their quarterback.
Drew Franklin
He probably should have slid on that play.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, no doubt.
Drew Franklin
He got hammered, got fumbled and shattered his ribs. I. I was doing a rollover bet where I bet on Miami to cover. I rolled it over to Oregon and it came time for the third rollover. Now those numbers get a little bigger.
Nick Roush
Than where we started, right?
Drew Franklin
I told myself, soon as we're Oregon ended, go bet Indiana minus seven. Just do it. It's a lot of points, but just do it. When I got to the app, it was seven and a half. That half point changed everything for me.
Nick Roush
But here's the thing too. Indiana should have been like 12 and a half and we just. It's the stupid logos, man.
Ryan Lemon
I know it.
Drew Franklin
I open the app with intentions of hitting Indiana minus seven. I see seven and a half. I took Bama. Lucky you're a part of that too, with your excitement calling you out. But other people on chaos borders a lot of Bama talk. And at the last minute I went bama. That proved to be wrong. And we learned in a hurry that was wrong. They were never in that game.
Ryan Lemon
Not only did they steamroll Alabama the last game, they steamrolled Ohio State. I mean, they put these two premier programs and like Nick said, it's just a logo thing.
Danny Shapiro
You don't.
Ryan Lemon
You can't believe in Indiana because it says you Indiana and the other logo says Ohio State and Alabama. Indiana is like legit dominating, dominating these top programs.
Drew Franklin
I mean, that's your old team. Rod, how do you feel? You know, you grew up watching Indiana basketball.
Ryan Lemon
Mention I go play for point guard for Bob Knight.
Drew Franklin
You wanted to be like Coverdale or who was it? Cheney. Which one did you want to be?
Ryan Lemon
Covert Cheney.
Drew Franklin
Which one? Which one were you dreaming of being?
Ryan Lemon
Steve offer.
Drew Franklin
Steve offers.
Ryan Lemon
There we go.
Drew Franklin
Wasn't sure if it was Tom Coverdale or that Luke guy that went to Iowa. But I mean, you, you know Indiana well from there. Did you ever, ever, ever dream of a day where the football program would be just whooping everyone?
Ryan Lemon
No. And that's why it's got to give programs like Kentucky a little bit of hope that hey man, if Indiana can do it. Loading up on the transfer portal. Portal. Getting the right people, getting the right coach, getting the right staff. If Indiana can do it, if Vanderbilt can do it, why can't Kentucky do it? We got a co new coach now bringing a new staff. This is where it's going to start.
Nick Roush
I think the important part to note too about Indiana and Texas Tech is Texas Tech is Doing it with oil money. And there are going to be schools out there that just, they, they, they pay a lot of money to get their players. Indiana has money, but it's kind of like the money that everybody's working with. They just have the right guys. I mean, the offensive line was the Rose bowl mvp.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, right.
Drew Franklin
They just gave it to the whole line.
Nick Roush
Yeah. Like, it's like you all, you kicked all the ass. You get to be the mvp. So that's why, to your point, Ron, like, there is optimism that you can make it work if you get the right guys, make the right evaluations. If you got a hungry coaching staff, which, you know, there's a lot of young guys, this is their first big opportunity. Got to go. Prove it. Yep, prove it in the SEC against a difficult schedule.
Drew Franklin
And then you got just Sig over there with the straight. He finally smiled with like 20 seconds left, but they're up 30 and he looks like he's mad at the world.
Nick Roush
And I love it.
Drew Franklin
I know you can just tell.
Nick Roush
Oh, I love that. I also in the nightcap because Kirby Smart has a little bit of let's.
Drew Franklin
Get to some sugar.
Ryan Lemon
That.
Nick Roush
That's like psychosis to him. Right. The aggression. That game was one of those that you're just like, imagine anything being better than football because it was. Ole miss went up 10 points with eight minutes ago and blew that lead. I mean, Gunner Stockton just kept taking hit after hit, delivering throws. It was, it was unreal, the resiliency that Georgia showed. But Trinidad Chambliss, that dude, I want whatever. If we could bottle up whatever that is that he was on for that stretch right there. He looked like Joe Burrow out there. That, that sort of I'm in the zone and nobody can get in my way. He was unreal. That last touchdown throw he had. And Georgia, Georgia, you did everything right. Ole Miss kind of penalized their way to let you go tie the game. But then you, you let Trinidad get one more shot deep and you gave up a 40 year pass.
Drew Franklin
You trade field goals in the last minute. I thought Ole Miss early, they just kept shooting themselves in the foot for one. I wasn't big on going for two that early in the game.
Ryan Lemon
That's true.
Drew Franklin
They don't get it. That throws off the math you're already talking about. This is going to awesome in the end. Then. I don't know if you saw right before halftime, but as a Kentucky fan, that looked very familiar. Oh, yeah.
Nick Roush
He cuts in and you're like, what are you doing?
Drew Franklin
Field Goal range. Even their coach, I felt bad for him because he can't throw the player on the bus. But at halftime they're like, how did you not get a field go off? And he's like, well, the plan was to run out of bounds, but their player cuts in and they can't get the field goal unit on the field.
Nick Roush
I love that. It was also Sean McDonough who had the Kentucky games when they were just terrible at the end of haps. And he's like, can you believe what are they doing? And he's calling out Joe Judge and Charlie Weiss Jr. The plan there, what is. And it's like, oh, man. Really, really putting their feet to the fire.
Drew Franklin
And at that point, it's a two position. I think it was nine points. You're already thinking about their two point conversion. They missed. Now they're leaving three on the field. You're already the underdog Ole Miss without your head coach thinking there's no way they can pull this off, leaving four points on the field in the first half.
Nick Roush
But then especially against Georgia, right? Like Georgia is a team, it's been here before. And if you watch them all year, there was some playing with fire there, but you could say they were playing with fire, they were going to get burnt. Or you could say, well, they've proven that they can win close games and that they're comfortable in these situations. And that was kind of bearing out down the stretch. I thought the. The one question I had was, on third and goal from the five, do you try to go. Do you try to throw it to the end zone or do you just run the Caucasus? LSU is out of timeouts. Only leaves him with 30 seconds ago or whatever. They tried to go for the win. I can't, like, you go for the win. Yeah, I think that's the right idea. 50 seconds. All you got to do is tackle them in bounds and you probably win the game. They went one high and it cost him. That guy got beat deep. Trinidad made a perfect throw, hit the guy in stride. I mean, that was a perfect throw. And then easy field goal for Carnero.
Ryan Lemon
Former West Kentucky Hilltopper, by the way.
Drew Franklin
He's awesome.
Nick Roush
He's so.
Drew Franklin
He's been good.
Ryan Lemon
He's really good.
Nick Roush
Although I secretly wanted him to. That would have been the most college kicker thing ever, right? They talk all broadcast about how awesome this guy, just for him to pull it and send it in overtime. But there was 1/2 left run 1/2 left. So we had the poor stage crew.
Ryan Lemon
Set the stage up. Break it down. Bring out again. Get ready to move it off the field again.
Nick Roush
I think Pete Golding got three Gatorade bats. He just kept dumbing Gatorade on him.
Drew Franklin
Ron, before a break, what do you think about Lane Kiffin getting half a million for Ole misses win?
Ryan Lemon
I think it's not my money, so, I mean, he.
Drew Franklin
He's watching Kentucky beat up on Kim Mulkey and Williams and the LSU women's basketball just before the night's over.
Ryan Lemon
He's got a half million counties Benjamin just sitting in the stands. Counties Benjamin earned given. You know, before we shift gears, I love the fact that the college football playoffs are final four. There's no Georgia, no Alabama, no Ohio State, no Michigan, no Clemson. These teams have dominated over recent years. It's Miami, Oregon, Indiana and Ole Miss. I kind of love that.
Drew Franklin
And of all the SEC teams, it's the one that Kiffin left to go win a national championship. Unlikely still, but of all the teams to be the one left standing, left one stands to the chaos we've had. We'll have a little more chaos here on ksr. Oh, yeah. You like these, these transitions Segways. What am I doing there?
Nick Roush
We have more bowl games today.
Drew Franklin
To more bowl games today.
Nick Roush
Somebody's getting a Mayo bath today. Folks love the Mayo Bowl.

I still have your top 25. Your top moments from 2025. Well, you know, we still got you. Get them ready. When you texted me Tuesday night. You have it ready. We'll just run through yours.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Drew Franklin
First need to run through some calls. I've had people waiting. Rick tells me they're still on the line. I don't want to lose them. So let's get to the phone lines. Rick, who's up first?
Ryan Lemon
Got Joe up first.
Drew Franklin
Joe, thanks for calling in. Thanks for holding. What's up?
Joe
Quickly, a couple comments. Coach Skinner, good luck as he puts together his volleyball team for next year. There's no reason why him in Nebraska and Louisville will go at it head to head. And good luck to Coach Skinner against Bush Bomb Kelly. Not my favorite coach in the world, but she's pretty damn good. So good luck the Coach Skinner. And secondly, Nick on recruiting, is Ohio still going to be a priority? And west of the Mississippi, it's a junior college that's in play when it comes to Coach Stein. Thank you. Goodbye.
Drew Franklin
Appreciate the call. Good to hear from you.
Nick Roush
The it is good to hear from Joe. Haven't heard that voice in a while. The junior college thing was it felt like Stoops was using it to break glass in case of emergency. They're just not as prevalent now that the transfer portal is around. So I don't anticipate that. But Stein has hired a couple of assistants who were previously at Ohio State. So while I don't think that it's going to be the same volume that we saw with Vince and the Youngstown gang when Mark Stoops was here, I do think they still will be recruiting Ohio. This staff has a lot of connections to Louisiana and Texas, so that will probably happen. But the other part to the DMV area defense coordinator Jay Bateman has a lot of connections there. So I think what we're seeing the term analysts used to get thrown around a lot. Drew, remember that we had quality control analysts. Well, now they just are assistant position coaches because they can recruit, they just can't go visit places.
Drew Franklin
Well, we got zoom now.
Nick Roush
Yeah, like coaches don't really hit the road anymore. That's not like a huge thing as it once was. So basically the way the staff is being structured, you got a lot more people recruiting than just Vince because there for a while it felt like it was just Vince recruiting. So you should have players kind of from all over where it's not going to be. You're not going to be so reliant on just one place. And the other part of it too. You got to get some guys from Kentucky is that 27 class Keelan hall from Cal is really good. There's a couple of kids at Atherton that are really good. So the state has some pretty big time players that are coming up in the, in the years right down the.
Drew Franklin
Road who's next, Rick? Super Dave is next. Super Dave. Not just any Dave. Super Dave. What's up?
Joe
Hey, guys. How y' all doing? Hey, Nick. It's a fellow Desales grad. Wanted to say happy New Year to everybody and I wanted to change it a little bit. I know we're in the middle of the football playoffs and the NFL wows and all that, but what do y' all think is going to happen tomorrow at Alabama with the basketball team?
Nick Roush
Oh, shout out. Super day.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I also in my notes in Alabama preview because we do return to basketball tomorrow.
Ryan Lemon
I think it's been forever since we've seen him play the Bellarmin game. Seemed like it was a month ago.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we're up again. We're up against our hard break. So I appreciate the call. We'll do our Alabama preview.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Drew Franklin
With ryan lemons of 25 in the next. In the next break here. Before we go, I did have one news item I meant to get to the first hour. There was a shooting near KS Bar yesterday. WKYT is reporting now that two people have died. Three were shot, one's injured. It's very. It's the parking lot we share with other buildings. Just want to let everyone know it's unrelated. Anything with us or any of our people. We were watching the news like everyone else that happened yesterday. We're thinking about the two loss and the one that's still injured, but I want to put that out there. We'll be right back. As KSR here is not Matt Jones. This is Drew Franklin here filling in for Matt Jones. He will be back tomorrow for the early morning pregame show.
Ryan Lemon
Ryan Lemon, 9:30am for the pregame show in the morning. People forget.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, people forget. There's basketball still going on. Quite the drought run. What's been like 10 days already since the Bellarmine game. Huge road trip tomorrow going to Tuscaloosa. We're gonna talk a little bit more about that game. Getting you ready for it here before this show ends. It's flying by, I think. I think I overproduced because I, you know, I'm not long winded like Matt. I'm talking fast because I had two pots of coffee and we still haven't even touched half the half the stuff we were going to get to today.
Ryan Lemon
Better to be over prepared.
Drew Franklin
That's right.
Ryan Lemon
Than under prepared.
Drew Franklin
Let's get right to what really matters because we didn't get to it. Tuesday, your top moments of 2024.
Ryan Lemon
Am I doing stock and mortgage?
Drew Franklin
Well, I was going to Say this edition is presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Ryan Lemon

Drew Franklin
Yeah. So, yeah. Thank you, Stockton. Happy New Year, Stockton. For timing purposes, so I don't mess this up again and we push it off till Monday, you texted me your top five football and your top five basketball on Tuesday night.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Drew Franklin
For the year.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Drew Franklin
We won't add ours. That'll take forever. So we'll do your top five and Nick and I, because Nick made a list on the website, he's ready to go. I have my list written out. We'll add honorable mentions that you don't do, but we'll just get Ryan's top five football moments. Football 20, 25. You can either count down from five, start at one. You have the floor.
Ryan Lemon
Okay. I'll go backwards. Five to one.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Ryan Lemon
Media Day with big Pete.
Drew Franklin
Oh, she has Pete. Great, great, great moment for ksr. And it was. That thing went super viral. I think ESPN even shared it on.
Ryan Lemon
Their social media and it was a lot of fun. Yeah. I got to get to know him kind of personally. So that was number five.
Drew Franklin
Okay. I like that one.
Ryan Lemon
Number four, Ty Bryant decides to come back. I think that's huge.
Nick Roush
Wow.
Ryan Lemon
I think he's a local kid. Yes, he's, you know, local kid. I think he had one guy on defense you had to bring back. It was him. He had one guy on offense you had to bring back. It was Cutter Bowley. All right, so 50%. They're hitting.500.
Nick Roush
I'll get you in the hall of Fame.
Ryan Lemon
Get to the hall of Fame.
Nick Roush
Number three to great leader. Like, it's good to have that during a transition.
Ryan Lemon
Beating Auburn, at Auburn. That's my now number three. And then number two, beating Florida at home. Those back to back wins, highlights of the season, obviously. And my number one moment, Will Stein introduction. I think that's the easy, easy number one for me.
Drew Franklin
All right. I'll add a few quick ones. We'll call it the five more from Drew. I won't do four. Five. I'll just add a few. It kind of goes with Auburn, but I really enjoyed Calzad and Garrett getting their money right. It wasn't the best look for our team and our fan base, but once it had already happened, what can we do about it but embrace it? And I enjoyed people taking the money to, to the games, fake money, the guys doing it on the sideline. So I'll add Calzada vs Garrett. Get your money right.
Nick Roush
I would like to add Vince Merrill wearing his sweatpants inside out at a football practice.
Drew Franklin
I didn't think that would be number seven.
Nick Roush
Whenever I need a good laugh, I just, I look up Vince Merrill sweatpants and there they are, just inside out. Five foot on the win.
Drew Franklin
Well, I had hello Nick Roush on my list. Can I just combine it? Vince tweeting you during the little game. I didn't like that we're losing. I didn't like that Vince gets to talk as trash. Trust me, if I could write the story myself. We're doing the trash talking, but kind of like Calzada since it's happening. I did take a little bit of satisfaction and joy in him dunking.
Nick Roush
Vince has always been a content machine, but the last year it was just one after another in the.
Drew Franklin
You see the, see the hat I brought today?
Nick Roush
Like this UK toboggan.
Drew Franklin
It's good looking hat.
Nick Roush
Well, there's a story behind it. I actually got it at the Governor's cup because, you know, the first one I grabbed, it was a buc EE's hat and people were roasting me because it was red. And we're playing Louisville and so this is the game at Kentucky. So this would be two Governor's Cups ago. And so I'm sitting on the sidelines and I see Florida's defensive coordinator now, Brad White. And I'm like, oh yeah, people are really ragging on me about the hat. And he's like, let me get you a new one. So while he runs off to go get me this fun little hat, I run into a few more people on the sidelines and I'm chit chatting. And that's when I learned that Vince was going to awful. And I think the, the part that's tricky about all of this stuff is sometimes if you say something out loud, it won't happen. And that's, that's what we're dealing with right now. And I initially didn't want to say anything about it at all until the following day, people who should not have known were asking me if I knew. I was like, all right, I got to put it out there. Well, you know, ksr, fake news, they're just making stuff up. We just had the timing wrong. They were waiting until later, and then when June came rolling around, I saw Vince the day before it happened, and that was like a wait. So you're being serious this time. And he was. He was being serious as a heart attack. Ended up going the wolf. And we could sniff it out. We could sniff out that he was leaving. There was a. He was the canary in the Stoops coal mine. We could feel it coming, but it was just like, well, but there's not a coaching position. How is he going to go over there? And they maneuvered it around to get Vince to, you know what? I don't know what his job is over there now. I don't know what his official. He's the gm. I don't. I don't really know what he's doing. But, hey, you know what, Vince? You got to flex. You got to wear your cardinal red, and you got out before everybody else got told to leave. So, you know, he was. He made the right decision.
Drew Franklin
And I had weird timing since I was in Mexico on my 40th birthday. And it, you know, 1am in the morning, we're feeling pretty good at that point, we just start calling random people on our phone where we scroll and you have to call them. I called Vince Merrow at 1am from Mexico the night before he left. Had no idea what was going on. I just want to talk to him, say hi, part of a little drinking game we were playing. Didn't answer, but little did I know. He probably thought, why is Drew calling me at 1am how does he already know? He's trying to. Is he trying to get a quote in the middle of the night? No offense. I was just with the boys at the bar in Cancun, and we landed on your name.
Nick Roush
I'm. I'm looking forward to. You know, we gotta let a little more time pass, but there's gonna be a fun story time podcast with that. The. The old regime motivated Mark Stoops at ACC media day. There's.
Danny Shapiro
There.
Nick Roush
There's a. There's a. There's a longer story behind all that. That was a very interesting day.
Drew Franklin
We gave More Vince more credit there for our top five moments.
Ryan Lemon
So you want top five basketball?
Nick Roush
Let's get top five basketball.
Drew Franklin
Let's do top five basketball.
Ryan Lemon
All right. The open practice that Pope had for the media and their families.
Drew Franklin
Okay. Just a few months.
Ryan Lemon
That's number five on mine.
Drew Franklin
That was a lot of touch.
Ryan Lemon
Your heartstring.
Drew Franklin
You can expand a little bit more. You don't have to go that f. What did you like about it? You took Josiah.
Ryan Lemon
I took Josiah, you know, and he is big, wide eyed, you know, get to see these guys up close and personal in a practice setting is just something we're not privy to. And not only did I enjoy it, he really enjoyed it. Got his picture taken with coach Pope. So it's kind of a good father son moment for me.
Drew Franklin
And at that point, we still had national championship dreams.
Ryan Lemon
Amen.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, some of us still do. I don't want to. I don't want to poo poo your dreams if you're still dreaming that. But at the moment, we had to know. Anything yet?
Ryan Lemon
Number four, the Colin Chandler dunk.
Drew Franklin
Oh, wow. You're over here preaching to me.
Ryan Lemon
It's one of the few times I've got up and jumped up out of my seat from a play during the game. And it was out. No doubt. So that's number four.
Drew Franklin
So the whole year. I mean, this includes all of SEC play last season.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Drew Franklin
SEC tournament.
Ryan Lemon
Yes. I've got. I got three more.
Drew Franklin
Well, I believe it. But you got Colin Chandler making the cut.
Ryan Lemon
Yes. Colin Chandler dunk. Carry on. This is my top five moments.
Drew Franklin
All right.
Ryan Lemon
Number three, beating Illinois in the NCAA tournament to get to the sweet 16. That was huge. It was a lot of fun.
Drew Franklin
It was a great one.
Ryan Lemon
Number two, Lamont Butler's game against U of L. Coming back injured, he 30 points. What he hit.
Nick Roush
Yeah, but it wasn't 25.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that's 2024. That was December.
Nick Roush
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Only SEC games, calendars, man, that got me. Well, then number one was Otega's game winner in the SEC tournament. Again, I was there with Josiah. That was just an amazing game to watch firsthand. So that was my number one.
Drew Franklin
How about I'll help you out. We'll throw Lamont out. That was number two.
Ryan Lemon
That was number two.
Drew Franklin
How about always other buzzer beat Oklahoma. We'll throw it in.
Ryan Lemon
I almost put that in my list.
Drew Franklin
There you go. It's in there now.
Nick Roush
He scored the final 18 points for Kentucky and 21 in the final 23.
Ryan Lemon
That's at Oklahoma.
Nick Roush
Yeah, that's just.
Ryan Lemon
That's amazing.
Nick Roush
And the other part too, about his shots, they were basically mirror images of one another just off balance throwing it up like, how are you doing this, Ortega? It was unreal Unreal. Great moments. Great moments.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Oh, go. You got more?
Ryan Lemon
No, I'm good. Before we go to the break, I got my top five KSR moments.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we'll get to those two. I was going to add a few more basketball. The win at Knoxville, which they seem to do a lot lately, that was pretty improbable. We were shorthanded. Remember, Trent Noah came in, had a big game. He had a big three. If I'm not mistaken, that's when Trent hadn't been playing in a while. He might have gotten in, like, the Vandy game before that. But that was closest thing we call a Trent Noah breakout. But going there and beating a top 10 team in Knoxville, something they've done.
Nick Roush
Several times before, he got the mama nickname. He hit the three threes. But actually, I think that was the game that was at home. But, you know, it's hard to remember all the wins over Tennessee. I mean, we don't have to talk about the losses. I would like to add the Weetabix. That was just fun. Good old fat. I mean, I. It wasn't like, good to eat, but it was a fun.
Drew Franklin
If I was eating it out of my pocket. Indianapolis, we talk about it's not good to eat. I had it for, like, every meal.
Nick Roush
It's like the most Kentucky fan base.
Drew Franklin
Story, you know, no one else would care.
Nick Roush
Yeah. But it's like, well, we've got to buy this British cereal. Like, of course we do.
Ryan Lemon
Everybody went out and tried to find it.
Drew Franklin
I was irrationally angry at Weetabix, the company, for not acknowledging us. I thought about flying over there to headquarters and be like, is anyone awake here? Because whoever's in marketing, terrible is the biggest opportunity that will ever fall in their lap. And then, like, two weeks later, the tournament was over. Florida's our national champion, and they're like, amari Williams likes weed. A big.
Ryan Lemon
Totally dropped the ball. They totally dropped it.
Nick Roush
I also would like to give Mark Pope a shout out. He was on the ball. He sent Jack Pilgrim home from the Peach Jam because his wife was going into labor. He said, jack, that's right, leave. And Jack made it back with a couple hours to spare before his second kid was born. So, you know, good moment. Totally normal. Right?
Drew Franklin
Like, I used that recently, you know, Peach Jam, it's in Augusta. My babies do Masters weekend. And I told Abby, I was like, jack went to Augusta and drove back and made it. Why don't I go to the Masters? And if it happens to happen, there's already already an Example here. Jack did it. He's fine. I can do it. That was a hard no.
Nick Roush
Very, very hard no.
Drew Franklin
I also have Jackson Robinson at Mississippi State.
Nick Roush
Oh, yeah, that was good. 27.
Drew Franklin
27 points. Kind of one of the last moments. Maybe the last moment. We really got to see the best from Jackson Robinson before injury took him out for the rest of the year.
Nick Roush
Just so many stinking injuries got cheated from him. Yeah. Ryan, what are your best KSR moments? I have a personal favorite.
Ryan Lemon
Okay, I'll go in reverse order.
Drew Franklin
I have like 20 of these.
Ryan Lemon
Number five, the donuts show at my house by my pool. Well, you guys made me eat a bunch of donuts and I threw them up.
Drew Franklin
That was okay.
Ryan Lemon
Number four, the Tayden Lorenzen show. We did it for Thomas Highlands. Tayden joined us. You were just coming back. You just lost your friend Manny. It was kind of an emotional show. That one meant a lot to me, I think, and I appreciated that.
Drew Franklin
Thank you. Thanks for including a show where I cried on the air. Appreciate that.
Ryan Lemon
The Whiskey Thief Halloween show.
Drew Franklin
Oh, your costume was incredible.
Ryan Lemon
Well, we had a huge crowd. We were all dressed up. It was just kind of a good little vibe, I think. And it was a lot of fun. The weather was great, so I had to put that on the list.
Drew Franklin
And we. We really didn't know that was you in the Ditka. We weren't playing that up. All of us were like, is that. I think that's Ryan when you first walked in.
Ryan Lemon
When I walked in, Shannon said, oh, Mike Didka is here. Wait a minute. Who is that?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that was Ryan. That wasn't exaggerating for a good story. We weren't sure that was you with that slick back here.
Ryan Lemon
Ok, my top two, the pregame show we did in Indianapolis before the Tennessee game. Rock. And remember, it was. We was kind of that outdoor venue and it was just packed people up and down the sidewalk, people packed inside. That was a lot of fun. The game didn't go very well.
Drew Franklin
Parents were there.
Ryan Lemon
Matt's parents were there.
Drew Franklin
Weed a bit in my pocket.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, you're eating weed a bit. Pocket Weetabix.
Drew Franklin
That in Milwaukee, I'll add. You know, it wasn't quite tin roof, but at that little market we went to. Unless that's your next one.
Ryan Lemon
No, number one was the London Tornado show. We did it on a Monday morning after the tornado hit, I think on a Friday night.
Drew Franklin
Talk about emotions.
Ryan Lemon
It was. Man, that was that one. That one kind of hit hard with me, kind of resonated. And we got to see it firsthand and meet some of the victims. It was a. That's where I know our show means something when we do like the Sandy Hook tornado show and the flooding show down in eastern Kentucky. That London tornado show meant a lot to me.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. We had already seen the images at that point. I think Pope and some of the players are gone and helped until we really got down see how far. Yeah, it extended. Yeah, I won't forget that. Let's take a break before we add ours. I'm already up running cutting it close here but Nick and I'll add a few more. We still have that Alabama preview. Yeah.
Nick Roush
Robust Alabama preview transfer Fair portal updates.
Drew Franklin
We'll do that now. Levitt entered the portal with a do not contact tag.
Nick Roush
Do not contact. Miami and Oregon are also in the mix. Who coaches it at Oregon?
Ryan Lemon
I've heard of him.
Drew Franklin
So we'll keep watching the portal get to Alabama. We'll be right back for one more segment with Drew Ryan, Nick Roush and Rick in studio. It's speed segment time here on ksr. One final segment with about five pages of content to get to Ryan, who is the speed segment brought to.
Ryan Lemon
Well, brought to you by Servprearl. The number one choice in cleanup and restoration whether it's mold, fire, storm or water damage. We've got a pro for that. We're the ones who make it like it never happened. Franchise locations all across Kentucky. We're involved with baseball events, football events, golf events there, PGA, LPGA, this ServPro Firefighters Challenge. They do it all Serve Pro go to serve pro. Com. There you go. Back to you, Drew.
Drew Franklin
Alright, before we add a few more moments, Rick, we've had someone holding a long time, like 20 something minutes. I can't wait them make them wait any longer. That's just rude of me. Who's up?
Ryan Lemon
It's Mike.
Drew Franklin
Mike, I apologize. I'm doing my best here. Let's chat.
Joe
Well, I'll tell you what. That's. That's all right. I sure appreciate y' all, Ryan and Drew and. And Nick. First of all, let me tell Nick I was one of the fellows Saturday morning Wagner's for breakfast. Really enjoyed talking with you.
Nick Roush
Pleasure.
Joe
Get out of the way. Couple things. First, first of all, I watched women's game and after, after we won the game, the next best thing was watching those LSU fans with their blank looks on their faces.
Drew Franklin
Oh, it's beautiful. They were so excited.
Joe
Absolutely. And the next thing is that about Cody Bowley. I really like him but I want the best Player in every position we can get. And I want the best quarterback that we can get. And that's. That's. That's the bottom line as far as I'm concerned.
Drew Franklin
Boom. That's the right attitude, and we appreciate you hanging on and calling in. You ran into him at Wagner's.
Nick Roush
Yeah, Wagner's Pharmacy.
Drew Franklin
Is that a good time?
Nick Roush
Yo. Great time.
Drew Franklin
Great breakfast. Felt like a little staple kind of thing.
Nick Roush
Yeah, it's right next to Churchill Downs. Good breakfast joint.
Drew Franklin
Everything you do is right next to Churchill Downs. Yeah, you would live in Churchill if they'd let you.
Nick Roush
Yeah, yeah, it sounds about right. But now it's too nice. I can, you know, I can't afford it.
Drew Franklin
Too fancy for our type.
Nick Roush
And then I need a more seedy area, you know, Give me. Give me a good old downtrodden racetrack.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I'm gonna add a few seedy moments to Ron's top five.
Ryan Lemon
All right, let's do it.
Drew Franklin
One I have is very recent that I want to make sure is included in 2025.
Nick Roush
It's probably the best radio show.
Drew Franklin
You already know what I'm going to say.
Nick Roush
Oh, yeah.
Drew Franklin
Was it just maybe in this room a month ago, the fire alarms going off? Could there have been fire alarms going off? I know Matt hated it. It was so bad for those that couldn't see us. I was over here with a blank eating grin. I can't say it on radio, but I just need people to know that when KSR is in utter chaos, I have this smile that you cannot wipe off my face. And it was on my face that day as Matt was yelling at the fire alarm. Right.
Ryan Lemon
Well, he wanted to get out of the studio and go do it somewhere. You and I are both like, no, this is radio gold.
Drew Franklin
I want more firearms. It also had Will Stein's mom. It was Will Stein.
Nick Roush
Jade Winder being the correspondent at Sissy Cakes.
Ryan Lemon
That's right.
Drew Franklin
So I had to throw that one in.
Nick Roush
It's also when Matt, you can tell the. The tone he has when he's going to start one of those monologues and he's getting ready to do it for Saad. That's when the alarms start and you can just feel it. You can feel it. It takes me back to the old Eric C. Kahn show. Oh, that was a long time ago.
Ryan Lemon
That just built and built and built.
Nick Roush
You can't. You can't manufacture that emotion. It's great. It was. I was. I was cackling driving back from the introductory press conference. Listen to that podcast.
Ryan Lemon
So it Was Amy and Matt show was that this past year.
Drew Franklin
We got to get you on 2025. That was 2024. Get on that list a few more quick ones. You weren't there. But our trip to Buffalo and all those covers, that was Billy's first road trip. We have suitcase, the vegetables, me keeping him and Mario from fighting.
Nick Roush
The shoes too.
Drew Franklin
The shoes, yeah, yeah.
Nick Roush
Sharp dressed man.
Drew Franklin
Max left this year. Remember he came to Kentucky branded. I wanted to include that little tear. Giving Max hugs on the air. I enjoyed my Drew Palooza. Little selfish, little self centered there. You left me.
Ryan Lemon
You killed it that week.
Drew Franklin
You gave me lemons and I made lemonade. Thanks to all the guests on that. And I'm also going to include when we had Archie Goodwin on and he talked about how much that meant to get to talk to the fans. It was supposed to be preview and TBT and then turned into a big moment for Archie. So I want to include those.
Nick Roush
I'm glad you didn't get punched after that TBT moment because it happens sometimes when you mix it up with the folks down on 64.
Drew Franklin
They don't punch very hard though. Very weak minded individuals.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, that, that one week we had Archie Goodwin and Khalil Whitney. They both kind of got to open up and you could tell, man, they were some repressed feelings they were getting to talk about for the first time ever.
Drew Franklin
And our house shows, we went to Shannon's house.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Drew Franklin
We went to the arcade in Northern Kentucky.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, that was a good show.
Drew Franklin
The zoo where I left my daddy with some zebras. Yeah, I wanted to include those. Now we have a minute left. Let's do our Alabama. Okay, Kentucky plays Alabama tomorrow. Noon, ESPN, KSR pregame show. Matt Jones is back. 9:30. We'll be right here getting you ready for that game. Alabama, how quickly can we do this?
Nick Roush
They shoot lots of shots. Lots of shots in America.
Drew Franklin
Third best offense, third and threes. But this year they block shots. They're third in the country and block shots. Look out for that. They'll get it going on both ends. Three losses this year, but they were top five teams. They lost Purdue, Gonzaga, Arizona. They beat Clemson, be Illinois. St. John's SEC's leading scorer, LeBaron Filon almost went pro last year. He's back getting 21 points a game, 55% from three, four or 55% from the field, 42% from three. It's a NATO team. We know exactly what it is. They beat us three times in a row.
Nick Roush
Never has 96 points in each one. Of those games.
Drew Franklin
Listen, the women showed us how it's done. Let's go. Get on the win on the road. SEC play, Ryan. Thank you, Nick Roush. Thank you Kentuckysportsradio.com for all your portal news. Crazy around here. Happy New Year. Matt's back tomorrow.
Danny Shapiro
I love you.
Drew Franklin
I'll see you all later.
