Welcome into the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealers Post Game show. I am Drew Franklin in downtown Lexington. It is after midnight and we all just watched Kentucky lose a fourth straight game to South Carolina. Losing 35 to 10 down in Columbia. An absolute embarrassing performance by the Wildcats in a game they needed to win to get some life back in the season. I'm here with Billy Rutledge. Billy, I'm hosting this show for the first time. Lucky me. Couldn't get Eastern Michigan, couldn't get Toledo. Matt leaves town, goes to South Africa, assigns me South Carolina game. I think yeah, you know what, that'd be fine. What could possibly go wrong? 35 to 10 could go wrong and I have a feeling a lot of people are going to want to talk about the future of the program. I will say tonight's game started off alright. Scored early 65 yard drive on the opening drive. Seth McGowan ran a 20 yard TDN to go up seven. Oh, we're feeling good. Cats got a little momentum. We're dreaming dreams. And it all went downhill from there. Four turnovers in the second quarter including back to back defensive scores. A complete meltdown. Kentucky had three points in three quarters after completely losing the wheels on everything in that second quarter. Billy Rutledge starting the game. I actually fumbled a little bit. Tennessee. Mississippi State goes long. I am struggling with the app. I completely missed that opening drive. Missed the McGowan touchdown. I log on just in time to see South Carolina score. I should have just gone to bed. Should not have seen what happened after that point because it was completely ugly.
Billy Rutledge
You missed the only good part of the game. Drew, it's good to see you. I'm sorry it's under these circumstances. It's normally Ryan that gets the post game after a bad loss. But your debut being another loss to South Carolina is not the best place to start.
Drew Franklin
Not at all. I should have just gone to bed. And speaking of putting something to bed, I'm sure a lot of you all are going to have Stoop thoughts on Mark Stoops tonight. If Twitter is any indication or any of the messages I'm getting or anything online on KS board, it is not pleasant around Mark Stoops after the Cats lose. What is that 14 out of 16 SEC games now? Billy, I think it's like 13 out of five power four games.
Billy Rutledge
Yikes. I know it's. What is it seven straight conference games now and. And one and 11 in their last 12.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I mean, we could do this all night. Hadn't scored two offensive touchdowns in any of their 10 SEC games under Bush Hampden. Just an ugly night in Cutter Bowley's first start. He did not look good. Had the two interceptions in that second half. Meltdown on that first one, Billy. He gets sacked by Dylan Stewart. You fumble, you think you're just going to take the big loss. Pete cannot fall on the football. Oh, how do you not fall on the football there, Pete? Reel it in, it hits his belly, pops out to the side. Next thing you know, South Carolina is going the other way for a touchdown. You get the ball back and what do you know? A tipped interception going the other way. That was night night. 14 straight points from South Carolina. It was all downhill from there.
Billy Rutledge
Two touchdowns in 45 seconds for the game, Cox. And actually four complete turnovers in the second quarter for Kentucky. If you count the fumble at the end. It was a disaster.
Caller
And.
Billy Rutledge
And you wanted to see Kentucky respond, right? Well, only 91 yards after the first two drives and in that game. So it's was not Mark Stoops or the offense's best night tonight.
Drew Franklin
Well, we want to hear your Comments on the game. 859-280-2287. I'm guessing there's probably already people calling in Billy. We also want to hear what you think about Mark Stoops and what the future looks like there. What can Kentucky do? We all know that he has the leverage in that favorable contract he was given by Mitch Barnhart. It's like a top 10 salary in football. He's owed what, like 38 million if you were to fire him anytime soon. Yeah, it's due in 60 days. I don't know how you get that deal, but even if you were to do it, what do you hand it off to? Brad White? But I'm sure a lot of you all have thoughts on that. It was a big disappointment tonight. He really needed to beat either Ole Miss two weeks ago or South Carolina to have a shot at getting things back on track and getting back to a bowl game this season. We all know what the schedule looks like from here. Georgia, Tennessee, Texas. Then you go to Auburn, maybe Florida, something. But that point, who knows? But tonight, even though it was on the road, it was one of the games that you really thought could be winnable to get things back on track.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, that's what I was going to say. I mean, when you look at the schedule ahead, this was the vulnerable SEC team that you needed to take advantage of possibly steal one on the road. And it's the worst that it's Shane Beamer celebrating. I mean, ever since Stoops talked about the dances and the sunglasses, it's not been a good record against the Gamecocks.
Drew Franklin
You have the seven out of eight from 2014 to 2021 or whatever, but now lost four straight. I mean, if we can look at Vandy, we can now say Kentucky is unequivocally 16th in the conference. Yeah, Mississippi State looked good today. Took Tennessee down to the wire. Kentucky was rolling there for a while, but we have absolutely fallen to the absolute bottom of the conference. Inexcusable. Can't win a conference game. Don't really have an SEC capable quarterback right now. Bowley on the road didn't have it. Some people there even mentioned that at one point Bo Allen and Zach Calzada were throwing it around. Never really came in the game, but you're now two and two. Oh, and two in the conference. You got no qb. The run game actually looked good tonight, if there's a bright spot. We mentioned McGowan early on with that game. He ended up with 112 yards, two touchdowns. He's averaged about six per carry. He has seven touchdowns this season. Billy, that ties Benny Snell for the most to start a season at this point. So he looked good, but other than that, no help whatsoever.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, and. And normally Brad White's defense has not been good this year. They ranked 16th out of 16th in total defense in the SEC this year, averaging or giving up 400 yards a game. I mean, it. It's just not been Mark Stoops football this year or the last couple years.
Drew Franklin
They got a big sack on Sellers that looked nice. Other than that, he had about a hundred rushing yards, including one play in the third quarter where it felt like he broke five tackles in the backfield. Goes for 20 yards and a first down. Sellers didn't throw a touchdown, but 11 for 14. 150 passing yards, the 100 rushing. You know, he's. He's one of the best quarterbacks in college football. Hadn't had a lot of help this season, but for the first time, South Carolina scored three offensive touchdowns on Kentucky's defense. So you got that going for him, too. Hey, at least the punt returner, he didn't have a touchdown. You got that going for you. There's another highlight.
Billy Rutledge
Glad we can give him some momentum to build on. It's. It's just ridiculous. Where are you at now, Drew? I mean, they showed no life in the second Half. It's just demoralizing. You want to see some progress being made, but it seems like there was none.
Drew Franklin
I picked South Carolina to win, but I thought Kentucky would be in it at the very end. I thought we'd have another close game, you know, one of those as luck. It said on the pregame show, first to 17 wins. I did not have, you know, 35 to 13 or whatever ended up being just an absolute disappointment. And we want to hear from you all, all about it. I know it's lighting up. 859-280-2287. It's after midnight. We'll let you talk. Billy and I will keep giving our thoughts. We're in downtown Lexington staring out over these beautiful cities from the beautiful city from the eighth floor. Does this window open, Billy?
Billy Rutledge
It doesn't.
Drew Franklin
Okay, good. That's good. He's not in a great mood tonight, but we want to hear from y'.
Caller
All.
Drew Franklin
We'll take a quick break and get to the phone lines. 859-280-2287. This is Drew and Billy on the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealers post game show after Kentucky's embarrassing loss to South Carolina. Welcome back in to the Central Kentucky select Toyota Dealers post game show. Drew Franklin and Billy Rutledge. Downtown Lexington after midnight after Kentucky loses 35 to 10 to South Carolina in a very disappointing outcome for Cutter Bowley's first career road start. I mean, Billy just. How does he not fall on the ball? How does Pete not just fall on it? You punt and you're still in it. Completely changed the game.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, it was right there. I don't know, just pick it up.
Drew Franklin
Or just lay there.
Billy Rutledge
Pete seems like he's doing a good job for the most part, but that. That was a big miss. Does your opinion on Cutter change at all or is this a tough place for a freshman to start?
Drew Franklin
I was hoping he would look better, obviously, but he was also the offensive line didn't do any favors. What was he? Sacked six times.
Billy Rutledge
Six times through two interceptions, two fumbles, pressured all night.
Drew Franklin
I mean, he didn't look good, but one of the interceptions was tipped. I'm not putting this, all of this game on him. It was just all systems failure. Outside of McGowan looking pretty good. Let's just go ahead and get the phone line and see what some of our callers have to say. Who's up first?
Billy Rutledge
Zane is up first.
Drew Franklin
Zane, you're leading off. What do you got for us?
Caller
Hey, Drew, how are you?
Drew Franklin
Tired and disappointed in the cats, but we're here having fun.
Caller
Yeah, man. I feel you. So I've just got a couple things. One, I've lost all hope in this program.
Legal Disclaimer Voice
I don't.
Caller
I'm speechless about Stoops. I never thought it would come to this. I love Stoops. He's done awesome things, but we've got to. We've got to fire him. He's got to go to Jagger, Burton. It's awful. He's. He. He's. He was. Why two sacks happen and then Jordan Lovett. We have to have a better safety than Jordan Lovett and I'll hang up and let you talk about that.
Drew Franklin
All right. Thank you. Appreciate the call.
Caller
I.
Drew Franklin
Not a good night for the two Kentucky boys. We've seen those names playing for Kentucky for a long time. Needed both of them to make a big jump this season. Looked all right in the early games, but not good tonight for either one of them. Jagger especially, he was a big part of the offensive line problems as they were just getting after Burton. I mean, South Carolina's got a pretty good front, but they're banged up. Dylan Stewart's a generational talent, but other than that, the line still should have been much better than they were tonight. They just got absolutely shredded. Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
And South Carolina's line is banged up, so you would hope Kentucky was able to take advantage of that a little bit, but gave up 35 points and Lenore Sellers was able to do pretty much whatever he wanted.
Drew Franklin
The stat about Kentucky not scoring more than two touchdowns in any of their SEC games under Bush Hamden, that's pretty bad.
Billy Rutledge
A little depressing.
Drew Franklin
I mean, we knew it was going to be low scoring. You had to, you know, hold, hold. South Carolina some three and outs for some turnovers. You didn't get that. But this offense just is not showing any signs of life.
Billy Rutledge
Well, there was a good play call on a. Was it fourth down, third or fourth down early in the game. Rodriguez goes for 53 yards, but I mean, some questionable stuff. They did a double reverse first down. Like, let's just get 2 or 3 yards and make it easier for our guys to get a third day.
Drew Franklin
I thought got a little reckless at the end of the first half with the laterals. That's a little risky at that point because at any moment could have been another South Carolina non offensive touchdown. So that was wild in the first half. Who's up next?
Billy Rutledge
Let's go to Matthew.
Drew Franklin
Matthew, what's up?
Caller
Hey, Phyllis, I just want to. I'm in Columbia right now trying to find an Uber home From. From the stadium. But beyond disappointed in the play call that I saw tonight, I mean, I don't understand why Bush Hampden, the double reverse, not running the ball enough. We had two turnovers tonight that made absolutely zero sense. Took us out of the game. Took us out of the game. We had a chance to actually, like, be competitive and win. When we were up 10, seven, I thought, oh, there's. There's zero chance Kentucky's gonna fumble this. And sure enough, we have a bad fumble and then we have a. I mean, that pick six was awful, too. I mean, the old analogy of if it hits you in the hand, you're supposed to catch it, but it hit Kendrick Wall in the hand. But obviously we know that ball was not even catchable. It was just disappointing, to say the least because all of us have so much faith in Kentucky. I mean, this football program, it can go places, but it's. It's not going where we need it to go. That's all I got for you fellas. I appreciate your time.
Drew Franklin
We appreciate the call. Yeah, we've now brought up that reverse a couple times. There's been some plays so far this season that really angered a lot of fans. You can go back to taking the safety against Toledo, whatever that, with Cutter, that fake pitch on fourth down a couple of weeks ago. And then tonight you have a third and five and you do that little handoff to Gilmore. You're in scoring position, end up making the 42 yard field goal. But it's like they were playing for field goal and weren't even trying to score there when you need to get aggressive. So another night of frustrating play calling.
Billy Rutledge
You know, Corey Price does a great job, but after losses, there are some demoralizing stats that he can highlight. And one of them was, this is Kentucky's longest SEC losing streak since September of 22nd of 2012 to September 13th of 2014. We have literally gone back to the beginning of the Stoops era with the amount of games that they're losing in the SEC at this point.
Drew Franklin
I remember sitting way at the top Team Patrick section, I think 232, something like that. At the top of Kroger Field of that vanity game when we knew it was over and the bleachers were completely empty. This doesn't feel like that, but it's starting to feel pretty close. And I think those bleachers might be pretty empty next time Kentucky comes around. Coming back home. Yeah, we go to Georgia next week. Got that going for it coming up. Georgia coming off A loss, Billy. That's. That's exciting.
Billy Rutledge
Then Texas.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah, right. That's. That's fun. Who's next on the phone line?
Billy Rutledge
E. Money is next.
Drew Franklin
E. Money. Nice name. What's up?
Caller
Hey, Drew. Yeah. See Money here. You know what? I'm not going to sit here and talk about how much money the Craft spent on this offensive line and how much money we spent on Shia's bait. 6, 6, 7, 350 pounds. Can't fall on the ball. But Kurt Bowley looks. He looks scared.
Drew Franklin
He did. We appreciate the call. I thought he looked comfortable when he came in. And Kroger Field even said that several times. How? Oddly, even though he's the second year guy, he looked to be a little more composed than Zach Calzada. But the. The rooster crows and the 80,000 under the lights at Williams. Bryce got to him and many others tonight.
Billy Rutledge
Right? Everybody's got a plan. Till they get punched in the mouth or you get punched in the tailgate lot after the game. Like our pal Ryan Le. It felt like Cutter got punched pretty early in that game and really never recovered. Which is strange because, you know, we heard all about Cutter making strides in training camp and being comfortable in the offense, but that's a. That's a tough environment for the kid.
Drew Franklin
Mark Stoops didn't get punched, but he did trip over a yardage marker before the half. Saw that in. In real time. I thought he got hit. I was worried about, you know, some injury, but then they slow it down and he actually tripped getting out of the way from getting hit, but he bounced right back up.
Billy Rutledge
Bit of a stumble. McGowan, left, launched a football at a South Carolina fan right after the first touchdown. Did you happen to see that?
Drew Franklin
I did. I think the. The fan might have given the shot. The bird back McGowan's way. Caught that on TV.
Billy Rutledge
There's a big fight over the ball, too. I mean, I guess Kentucky was trying to get their ball back after McGowan chucked it at the guy, but I don't know. Somebody's got to ask him what he was thinking.
Drew Franklin
Kentucky was trying to get the ball.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, Kentucky was trying to get their ball back. Kind of like Louisville earlier today, if you saw that highlight.
Drew Franklin
Well, you know, touchdowns are so hard to come by when you. When you get one, I guess you got to commemorate it. They might paint that ball up and put it up in the office. Who's up next?
Billy Rutledge
Path you is up.
Drew Franklin
Path. You all right. That's new. What's up, gentlemen?
Caller
I just can't help but feel hopeless.
Legal Disclaimer Voice
And dejected for our program right now. You know, look, I know SEC football is a different animal and I really hate making comparisons from, you know, Kentucky football to basketball, but it just seems like this football regime has become so similar to the last few years with California, you know, Vince Merrow being the Robich or Payne to Stoops. And I just feel so apathetic towards our program right now. I just want to get you guys.
Caller
Thoughts on where do you think we can go?
Legal Disclaimer Voice
Obviously we know the financials. We cannot fire Stoops. We can't afford that. Where do we just go from here? I'm going to hang up and listen to your. Your response there.
Drew Franklin
Thank you. I appreciate the call. I agree with the basketball comparison. Usually try not to do that, but it does have that same feeling, even this off season where he kind of went quiet, didn't want to make headlines. Remember cal was real GS. Moving silence like lasagna. Remember that? Yeah. Remember, I'm not doing the media this summer. We're so good. I'm staying quiet. Kind of felt like we had a little of that from Stoops this offseason.
Billy Rutledge
Want to make a headline? Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Now the apathy setting in. You're not winning games. You should win. The only difference is basketball. Just by the nature of the sport, you get the tournament where like an Oakland can happen. You know, football, you don't get that clear the this is it. But losing this many SEC games is getting pretty close to an Oakland or a St. Peter's he'll never have that exact, you know, it ends moment to a, you know, 15 seed. Basketball is set and it's not set up that way. But when you can't win an SEC game, that's getting to be just as bad.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah. And I'm sure Stoops would love aerobic. I don't know if you put Liam Cohen in that role, but he's been trying to find an offensive coordinator to stick. And Bush Hampden just doesn't seem to be the right guy. But, you know, what does Mitch do? This is the all time winningest coach in Kentucky football history. The $38 million buyout doesn't seem like he's rushing to get rid of the guy at this point.
Caller
Right.
Drew Franklin
Well, we know he's not quick to fire anyone. And even he said this is a one year blip. It is not a one year blip. We're all seeing that there are people on the scene that said Mitch didn't look Very happy over on the sideline tonight. I mean, I can't imagine he would be happy. You know, Mitch. Mitch gets into these games just as much as anyone. But he does have a mess on his hands. Because I think we can all agree there's not much hope in the program. I mean, maybe Stoop surprises us somewhere. But if we're all being honest, it does not look like this season is going to end well whatsoever.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, and you mentioned apathy. Matt's talked about that before. It feels like people are going to start turning the page to basketball here pretty soon.
Caller
What?
Drew Franklin
Big Blue Madness. What, two weeks ago?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, it's right around the corner here.
Drew Franklin
Jerry Lorenzen used to hate it when this would happen. He would say people would just flip the switch. I'm afraid that'll be coming up. Let's get another call before we take a break.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, Jerry's next.
Drew Franklin
Jerry, how about it?
Caller
Oh, yeah, thanks. Taking my college, but I think it's time to move on from. From Stoops. He's just. He should never box office card back. And then right now it's just in disarray. And I love my cook football, but man, it's just time to move on and. Jesus Christ vampire battle this year. We're not going to win the SEC game. And that just kills me, man, because you know, you got Vanderbilt doing what they're doing and right now we cannot, you cannot get out of our own way. I mean, seriously. I mean, I love Carter boldly, man, but evidently, man, he's just not the answer. I mean, I mean, God bless his soul, but what we gonna do? I mean, Drew, just tell me. I mean, we got to move on.
Drew Franklin
I mean, you're doing it right now. Are you waiting any longer? You doing it right now?
Caller
No. Yeah. No, I'm not. I think. I think you should fart right now. I think you should right now. God bless his soul. I think right now you gotta follow him like Oklahoma State did with Gundy. You gotta move on and let the white take the team over and next year maybe bring in the Duke to Lane, whoever. But this football team right now is just in disarray. Do you know that? You sit there and watch the same game I do. It's horrible, man.
Drew Franklin
It is. I appreciate the call. I don't disagree. I mean, the numbers are bad. We could sit here and read these ugly stats all night long. Culture hadn't gotten much better. I mean, you've got a player court cases right now. Schedule's not getting any easier. Doesn't look like you have a quarterback that's ready to win any SEC games this year, but Louisville down a little bit today. They came back one. They're undefeated. You're going to go win at Louisville the end of the year in the Governor's Cup. I mean, what do we do? We just count down to Tennessee Tech in November?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Is that the one we circle on the calendar? Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
I didn't think about it until Jerry had just said it. They're not going to win an SEC game this year. I mean, what's the best chance? I would say, Vandy, but they're ranked Florida at home. Florida.
Drew Franklin
But you got to keep your team together to get to Florida. That's in November. I mean, it could. It could get a lot ugly between now and then.
Billy Rutledge
I'm not for firing coaches mid season. I don't think that accomplishes a lot. But I mean, the way Jerry put it, what game are they going to win in the SEC after performing like.
Drew Franklin
That after not winning one last year?
Billy Rutledge
Well, they beat Ole Miss.
Drew Franklin
Excuse me.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, home games, but yeah, I mean, it's just. I don't want to put this loss on Cutter, though. Like, that's what I was a little afraid of when it comes to throwing a guy out there in a hostile environment. But he did not look good by any means.
Drew Franklin
He did not. But it was never supposed to be Cutter this season at all. You went and got Zach Calzada so that Cutter could be next year. You know, not completely defending Cutter here, but he's not even supposed to be in the spot because you went out and got a quarterback supposed to be.
Billy Rutledge
When you're away anyway.
Drew Franklin
This is fun, Billy. I'm having a lot of fun tonight.
Billy Rutledge
Let's take one more and we'll take another break here.
Drew Franklin
Let's get another one here. We'll talk a few viral moments to try to smile a little bit, even though it's hard to smile right now.
Billy Rutledge
Will is next.
Drew Franklin
Will, what's up?
Caller
What's going on, guys? You know, here's the thing. I mean, you know, whether cutters supposed to be in that or not, let's be honest, Calzada is not any better. It's. It's got to be all on Stoops. And I try to put myself in Mitch's shoes. I mean, he's got the hardest decision to make here ever because I know him and Stoops are boys. But let's be honest. We could talk all night long about all these terrible statistics that are around Kentucky football and Stoops and something has got to be done. Because, listen, you know, I'm. I'm friends with a lot of Louisville fans and we are just the complete laughing stock of football and nothing changes year after year. You know, Stoops, we give him another chance. He says, oh, we got to get back to work. We got to. We got to, you know, get back to work and practice all these things. But nothing ever changes. And as Kentucky fan, I can speak for the whole fan base, and I know you guys as well. It is so old. Something has to change. Thanks, boys.
Drew Franklin
All right. Appreciate the call. An update on the. The ball. I'm seeing online that Lenore sellers said that McGowan hit his grandfather with the ball. Of all people to hit.
Billy Rutledge
We're hitting Lenore Sellers grandfather and I took that personally.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I'm seeing pictures. They gave his grandmother the game ball because we hit him. Of all the people in the stadium, I don't feel like we should be hitting people's grandparents.
Billy Rutledge
Outscored 35 to 6 after that play.
Drew Franklin
Oh, just add it to the list. Well, we'll have more fun like this. Talking about Kentucky's loss to South Carolina, 35 to 10. It was an opportunity to get a win, try to get some.
Billy Rutledge
Drew, don't short. Don't shortchange him. 35, 13.
Drew Franklin
Oh, I keep saying 10. Yeah, whatever. 35, 13. That makes it much better. An opportunity you had to get a win to get. Try to get back on track. Try to head to a bowl game and you completely lose it all in the second quarter with the turnovers. We'll come back after this break. We want to hear from you. 859-280-2287. It's Drew and Billy up late on the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealers postgame show. Be right back. Welcome back into the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealers post game show, also known as group therapy for Big Blue Nation. As we're all up late after Kentucky loses 35 to 13. I kept saying 10, Billy. I was. That was rude of me, taking away three points from Kentucky. I apologize. I did that a few times throughout the show. But it's late and I'm just as upset as anyone else. But I do apologize. Got to get the final score right. That's like the bare minimum of this job.
Billy Rutledge
No, I understand. I understand. There wasn't a lot to enjoy about that game. I don't get to listen to the TV broadcast, though. Did Tom Hart say anything interesting or funny?
Drew Franklin
You walked right into my. My next topic. First of all, shout out to the kicker. We still have kickers and punters. They had a bit. Another big game. That's another thing you mentioned. We're going back to 2012 with that. With that streak.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
We're also going back to Kentucky. Just being known for good kicking, good punting. That's. That's kind of where we are. Everything else is a mess, but we can boom the ball. Tom Hart, yes. He at least kept us entertained. I was trying to keep up with the references. I had heard there would be a lot dialed up for this game because it had been a while since we've heard Tom Hart. But right away I heard him say something about pump and shop. Okay. Shout out to Clark's. That was intentional. I said Kentucky was up by three Biggins.
Billy Rutledge
Love that for our guy John.
Drew Franklin
He said something about a safari and seeing penguins. I assume that was related to Matt in South Africa. There was getting sucker punched outside the stadium.
Billy Rutledge
Come in, even got the sucker punched.
Drew Franklin
I mean, my man was on fire. And then not to tell on him, but maybe he asked for any request. Let's just say maybe that happened hypothetically. And I said, my guy Manny used to always say, you can't do that after penalties. So there was a flag and I heard a you can't do that. So KSR listeners got. They got the full Tom Hard experience tonight as the game was just being absolutely miserable otherwise.
Billy Rutledge
Well, that's funny to hear. You know, broadcasters have to flip that switch in a blowout and just kind of grasp for notes. And Tom's notes were to text and ask maybe.
Drew Franklin
I didn't say he was texting during the game. I said if he were to text you. They are the best, though. We have our Tom connection. I know Cole a little bit. Don't really know Jordan, but just objectively leave aside the KSR things they call a good game. They somehow they couldn't really polish this one up very well for me, but typically I love having them on a call.
Billy Rutledge
I'll give you one funny thing while we're talking tv. So the game had to start on ESPN News because Tennessee and everything and they switched it over, but if you weren't paying attention, it just switched over to pillow fighting on ESPN News. And I happen to think that was more competitive than the game that we saw in South Carolina tonight.
Drew Franklin
I'm glad you brought that up. I thought that was my tv. I mentioned at the beginning of the show that I missed the McGowan touchdown. I feel like I'm pretty tech savvy, but it's like, here's your code. Go to espn.com watch. And I'm throwing my remote and I finally get it on, and it did. Out of nowhere, I'm looking at my computer and I'm sitting there and my wife's like, did you change it to pillow fighting? And I look up and I'm like, I've lost my. How. So that wasn't. That was everybody and everybody problem. Yeah, just add it to the list of whatever the hell was going on early in the game before it really fell apart. Maybe I should have left it on professional.
Billy Rutledge
We should have left it on.
Drew Franklin
All right, let's get some more calls in.
Billy Rutledge
Dale is up next.
Drew Franklin
Dale, what's up?
Caller
Hey, Drew, I got a question for you at the end, but me and you, we're going to fix Kentucky football in 90 seconds. You ready?
Drew Franklin
Let's do this. You got it.
Caller
All right, you can put the timer on. Billy, let's roll right now.
Drew Franklin
I'm setting the timer. I'm going to interrupt you at 90. Here we go.
Caller
Go number one. If I miss Barnhart, I don't let Mark Stoops get on that plane to fly back to Lexington. You go get yourself a Hertz rental car and you drive back from Columbia to Lexington. You drive your ass back. Marsh Dukes, number two, make Brad White the interim coach. If he does a good job, you hire him. If not, guess who would love to Coach in the SEC. Mr. John Gruden. I'm not a big Summer all fan, and I'm not getting on that bandwagon, but let's give Brad White a shot. Mark Stoops, your time is done. And then as long as Brad White agrees to fire Bush Hampden as the OC hey, you already got Eddie Grant on staff. He's been a proven offensive coordinator. How could it get worse? Let Eddie grand run the offense. You know he did everything good with Lynn Bowden, right? Perfect.
Drew Franklin
You got to figure it out.
Caller
One thing I got one thing I got to ask you, Drew. How about Madisonville, North, Hopkins 6 and oh, baby, can they finish out the season undefeated? And I'll hang up and listen for your answer.
Drew Franklin
Beautiful. That was exactly one minute. You had 30 more seconds to fix UK football, but it sounds like you've already thought that out. And thank you for shouting out my Madisonville Maroons. Billy, look, this is the first time I've smiled since. Since I finally got the game on from the professional pillow fighting earlier. So thank you for bringing a smile to my face with that contribution to the Show. Cause the Maroons are hot.
Billy Rutledge
You didn't smile during the Ryder cup today. Or the Titans.
Drew Franklin
Don't make my day worse. Oh, yes. I get to watch my own three Titans tomorrow. And then after that we get to watch my wife's Dallas Cowboys. Might just go outside and start kicking trees just to add more pain.
Billy Rutledge
So his way to fix Kentucky football was to fire Stoops, make Brad White the interim and make Eddie grand offensive coordinator.
Drew Franklin
I think he wants Brad White to fire Bush Hampden. Let's put it all on Brad White. And then he wants Eddie Grant.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, I don't know.
Drew Franklin
He's thought about it. Let's get another call in, see if they have solutions.
Billy Rutledge
About Joe and Bama.
Drew Franklin
Joe and Bama. Big win for Bama today. What's up, Joe?
Caller
Yeah.
Hey, Drew, Just a couple of things, man. You know, living in Alabama for the last 15 years, there's a different kind of football. When you watch it on the multi view on YouTube, when you're watching Alabama, Georgia and you watch Kentucky, South Carolina side by side, it almost went minute for minute for the game, to halftime, to everything. That's a whole different kind of football. I realize that we don't have the same players. I realize that we are getting into the room of apathy here, but I think the last caller's right. If you want to keep any attention on this football team for the rest of this year, you've got to make a change now. And it has to start with the offensive coordinator and the head coach. I know there's people out there that can coach differently. I just think that the coaching staff now with the money that they're making is not hungry.
They're kind of done.
Everybody's rumored that Mark's going to retire early. You know what? Just let it happen. I don't know about John Gruden. I think that's a pie in the sky wish. But I know there's a coach out there that can bring this team some fire like mark Stoops did 15 years ago. But if you want the fans to stick with it now, what I saw on the television has a change. It's regardless of the players, it's regardless of the play calling. You cannot run sideline to sideline and expect to go to the end zone. You've got to go north and south and stop this side to side, flip the ball backwards and try to throw for a seven yard completion and then overthrow the tight end. It just. It just is monotonous. I had season tickets when Bill Curry was there and I thought then it was going to be better but it has done nothing. So you know the football job is probably like the basketball job. You got a 10 year window. You need to get it done and get out of the way.
Drew Franklin
All right, we appreciate, appreciate the call, Billy. I think people a little fired up.
Billy Rutledge
Well I agree about the John Gurdon.
Drew Franklin
That's probably, that seems a little extreme.
Billy Rutledge
Probably a big wish but I mean teams like Indiana and Mississippi State should show you that it can be rebuilt in a year with the transfer portal you can make a competitive team. It doesn't shouldn't take a decade any longer. So that, that just, that's another thing that works against Stoops here and it's.
Drew Franklin
What you're 13 and some of it's just like operational like you're the longest tenured coach in the conference. Why, why can't we get a play in?
Billy Rutledge
Why are we got a timeout before.
Drew Franklin
Burning timeouts before punts and extra points. Oh, this is fun. This is fun show. Is it always like this? It's not always like this. I don't see. I don't get to hear the post game show. Usually I'm still at the press press box so I'm not hip to all these callers. These are like new people to me. I know there's like stories you hate kids or something. Is that a thing?
Billy Rutledge
Oh well, you know the kids aren't usually up this late so that's maybe the good thing about these night games. Drew. But we've, we've heard this from the callers a little bit this year already kind of waiting for the, the word that's been used tonight, Apathy to set in when Kentucky plays tougher games. But you know South Carolina was winnable. This was a team that had got blown out by Vandy, lost to Missouri, not playing well, a bad defense and Kentucky just wasn't able to take advantage.
Drew Franklin
38 million. That's a lot of money or whatever it is.
Billy Rutledge
38Ish isn't really that much money anymore.
Drew Franklin
It's like 75% of whatever's left, whatever that exact number is doing 60 days.
Billy Rutledge
I mean he was about.
Drew Franklin
That's not in the ATM ready. Just put your pin in and pull that out. You have to come to some kind of agreement at some point. If it's truly keeps going this direction. Stoop's got to consider his own legacy and maybe even he. We'll sit down at the table and work something.
Billy Rutledge
That was going to be my next question. I mean Rich Brooks once said that Mark Stoop should have a statue here at Kentucky. I mean do you feel the same way after the Final four, the last.
Drew Franklin
Four years of there is a YouTube video of me going around Kroger Field talking about a Mark Stoop statue four or five years ago. So I mean I can't say that's crazy for Rich Brooks. I was going around asking people to my how times change. Yeah, let's get another call.
Billy Rutledge
Austin is next.
Drew Franklin
Austin, what's up?
Caller
Evening gentlemen. First off, Billy, come to my first point about Indiana, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, all them all. I think you can say that Mark Stoops is the only one who can be a coach Kentucky and have success if all these smaller schools like us are top 25 and doing pretty well. Number two, kind of the biggest point I guess I wanted to make is I know his buyouts. I think he also 38 million and for a while I used to agree that that's probably not attainable. However, this week I got a email shout out Mitch Barnhart for the emails. An email that they asked for our advice for a 34 million dollar stadium renovation coming up. So I guess my question is if his buyout so unattainable, how do we have the money for a 34 million dollar renovation for kind of small stuff like stadium atmosphere. Feel like winning is the best way to fix stadium atmosphere. So yeah, that's my question. Can you guys kind of explain why we have that money if we can't afford his buyout? Hang up and listen.
Drew Franklin
All right, appreciate the call. Thanks. Austin, guess the answer there. There's a big difference in building new infrastructure and adding experiences that'll last several years and then just handing a guy money to go away.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, then you still got tough check.
Drew Franklin
To write like hey, you haven't done a great job. Here's all the money we have for you to just leave.
Billy Rutledge
Just to leave.
Drew Franklin
That's a tough check to write.
Billy Rutledge
Then you still got to pay for a new coach and coaching staff. And then, then you don't have the renovations to your stadium that you're hoping to make an entertainment district out of over the next five to 10 years.
Drew Franklin
So at some point there is an equation. I'm not the one to do the math on it, but you have to weigh in what you will lose if people truly stop showing up like they're threatening to and probably will if this doesn't look better. Especially at home, they're lucky people have been engaged as they have been with the home losing streak for what it takes to go to a game anymore. I think the crowds have been pretty good this season so far. I know it's been two non conference games and just Ole Miss, but I, you know, if you go down to Georgia and get whooped, next week gets. Gets pretty ugly after that. I wonder what the crowd will look like. We know it'll mostly be burnt orange and orange for the Tennessee and Texas games.
Billy Rutledge
And the season ticket holders were already paying more for less home games and fewer tailgating spots and just not good timing with all that stuff.
Drew Franklin
With the year ahead, got to consider what you'll lose. Let's get another call in.
Billy Rutledge
Justin.
Drew Franklin
Justin, thanks for calling in.
Legal Disclaimer Voice
Hey, thank you guys for taking my call. I appreciate it. I was actually at the game tonight and you know, really the two points that I just want to make is like, you know, I'm, I'm super appreciative of, you know, what Stoops has done here and yeah, I don't know if you fire a mid season, I don't think that's great just with a huge buyout. But you know, I think it's time to move on at the end of the season and you know, again, like the guy that gets two 10 win seasons here, like hasn't been done, you know, like, like Drew said at the beginning of the show, like I was in the, the empty bleachers at 040, lost to Vanderbilt, whatever it was 13, 14 years ago, you know, and the, and the second point I want to make is like, you know, at the game tonight, like I, I feel like it's pretty tone deaf for the, you know, for UK Athletics to send out that survey to season ticket holders. It's like, hey, like what can we do, like entertainment district and all this, like restaurants and like, like Columbia in, in Columbia tonight, like there's 85, 90,000 fans for a team that's 0 and 2 in the SEC and they're going nuts, you know, for this, for their football team and like students are around the lower bowl and like it's an unreal atmosphere. So like, you know, like it would be great to have Kroger Field like that, but I just, I don't know, like, I don't know if we'll ever get to that point. So, you know, just really frustrated and again, appreciative of what Stoops has done. But you know, at the end of the year, I think it's time to move on. But yeah, it's just, it's going to be a tough pill to swallow all Year.
Drew Franklin
Not. Not that it matters, but how did. How was the Kentucky crowd tonight? Did we have a decent showing for that debacle?
Caller
Yeah. No.
Legal Disclaimer Voice
Yeah. You know, after the first quarter, like, our section was buzzing, you know, like we were right behind the band. And, like, I'd look up and it felt like the whole, like, section or two or three sections that we were around was, like, full of Kentucky blue. And that's. That was crazy. Like, we go up 10 to 7 at the end of the first quarter, and, like, we're running the ball really well. And that was. Everybody was like. It was feeling really good. And then second quarter happens and, you know, it feels like for some reason, we felt like Cutter needed to do like some sort of air raid type thing instead of just trying to grounded pound, you know, like what Eddie grand might have done or something, you know. But I. You know, I thought the crowd was for UK at least. I thought there was a ton of buzz around and optimism, and that lasted 15 minutes, you know, and second quarter happened, and it just kind of went downhill from there. And so, you know, I'm not frustrated with the, you know, student athletes or Cutter or anything like that, like you guys have mentioned, but I don't know why we didn't just try to keep running the ball. You know, I thought we could have kept doing that until at least, I don't know, the third, fourth quarter. Because we looked really impressive on that first drive. Second drive, you know, but, yeah, I think it's, you know, it is what it is.
Drew Franklin
All right, well, we appreciate the call. Glad you survived. Williams, Bryce, aside from the. From the game, haven't heard any reports of any sucker punching or anything down there. Billy, so far, so good on that, but the night is young. I mentioned missing the first drive that when we look so good. Yeah, because I was fighting with my tv, trying to put in that dang code they make you use your phone for. You know, the QR on the tv, it was. It was the whole thing. And then you end up watching the pillow fighting, as we've discussed. So I text Nick Roush, who's down there, and I was like, hey, saw, we scored, but I completely missed everything. And he just sends back in, like, all caps. Kentucky ran it all over their faces. So I get excited, like, maybe we have something in that second quarter. Four turnovers in one quarter. That's impressive work.
Caller
It is.
Drew Franklin
You got to really want it to turn it over four times in one quarter. One quarter.
Billy Rutledge
It is. You're right. But let's take that Second quarter completely away. Kentucky still loses this game, 14 to 13, I believe. So all that's made about the momentum and what happened in the second quarter, Kentucky still got beat in the rest of the game. And if you were looking for any response when they came out of the halftime, they. What do they do? They go.
Drew Franklin
Actually, they didn't. South Carolina didn't score in the third quarter. Had a little defense show up there.
Billy Rutledge
I'm glad they showed up because we needed a more, especially in that first half. But yeah, they go like punt. They go 11 yards and kick a field goal because they were able to get that. That fake punt didn't convert. And then it was like immediately three and out again. So not what you want to see.
Drew Franklin
Do they even throw to Josh Cattus at all? I was expecting a big game out of him. See, I make sure I make that game day graphic that goes up in the morning. So I pick who the player is going to be. I put Cattus on there thinking Big Pattis game. Didn't see much. I didn't know if he was targeted. I think Willie led the team in receiving two catches. Law had five catches.
Billy Rutledge
That's because three of them were jet sweeps.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Billy Rutledge
That's what we do to get it.
Drew Franklin
And even on the big gain to Rodriguez, that was the. Let's just lateral it around and get goofy before halftime. Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah. And I feel bad for a guy like Jamari Macklin. Right. Somebody that kind of broke out at the end of last year after we wanted or we expected a lot more from him. And then maybe he comes into this year thinking that that's more coming and it's more of the same.
Drew Franklin
It probably wouldn't have mattered, but he should add a touchdown. He got open, he broke free and Bowley just missed him by about a yard. Over through him there late, but not that that would have mattered in the 35 to 13 finish. Not 10. But we'll take a break. We want here for more of you. 859-280-2287. Got some people on hold. We want to get your thoughts on the game and what's next for Kentucky. This is Drew and Billy on the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealers postgame show. All right, welcome back. Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealers post game show. One last segment here. Drew Franklin filling in for Matt Jones while he's off riding zebras and playing Jumanji down there in South Africa. Ryan Lemon.
Caller
What?
Drew Franklin
He's probably asleep at 1am right? So they got me hosting the show. Billy.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah. What are we Doing after this, Drew, are we hitting a couple bars?
Drew Franklin
No, I'm going to bed. I'm worn out. Absolutely worn out. Especially after that damn game. If they had maybe won, might have seen what downtown has in store. Late, but no straight to bed after this for me. But we have more calls to get to, more disappointed fans to hear from, so let's just get right to it.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, let's go to Ethan.
Drew Franklin
Ethan, what's up?
Caller
Yeah, guys, I'm driving back right now from Columbia, heading back to Corbin, Kentucky. I'm pretty disappointed to say so myself. If I'm being real here. Cutter Bowie could have had four interceptions if they would have caught the two that they dropped. He had two fumbles. Bushampton couldn't coach my high school team. Mark Stoops needs fired. Our receivers can't get open even if I was guarding them. That McGowan is the only player on our team that's any good at all. Our kicker's pretty good. And other than that, that's about it.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, well, appreciate the call. Other than all that, Billy, not too bad. Other than all that.
Billy Rutledge
And Eric Wolford just got another raise.
Drew Franklin
Don't tease people. They'll believe it. Be safe. Heading back to Corbin. It's a late drive. Appreciate you calling in. Who's up next?
Billy Rutledge
Jerry is next.
Drew Franklin
Another Jerry.
Billy Rutledge
Another Jerry. Popular.
Drew Franklin
Let's just have it all. Jerry's. What's up? Second Jerry.
Caller
Hey. Hey. Here. You know, Matt was giving me crap about being negative. That's because I saw this coming.
Legal Disclaimer Voice
Like a freight train.
Caller
You did when you looked at that roster. You're bringing back the same offensive coaches that had all that talent last year, couldn't coach him, and now you're expecting a different result. You bring in an offensive line coach that led the conference in sacks at Ala freaking Bama and you're surprised that they can't pass block? Come on.
Drew Franklin
You called it.
Caller
I mean, something changed in this program. Something changed in this program about between the. Between the pony up and the Texas A M thing. And then when Liam Cohen left, something changed. And then. And the final straw was Vince leaving. Now we're not recruiting Ohio and keeping the good kids in Kentucky anymore. We're doing some other freaking thing that Wolford wants to do and it, you know, so I haven't seen anything that depressing on offense since Elliot used Lack and Bill Curry had Tim Coucher on.
Drew Franklin
The option and how many more wins?
Caller
I don't know what to do.
Drew Franklin
How many more wins the rest of the season?
Caller
1.
Drew Franklin
I'm guessing you're going with Tennessee.
Caller
They might. I'll tell you what. The Florida game is going to come down to basically two lame duck coaches and which team wants to play harder.
Drew Franklin
Yep.
Caller
But I only see one more win, and that being that.
Legal Disclaimer Voice
Wherever.
Caller
East Tennessee State.
Drew Franklin
One of those.
Caller
I mean. I mean, at this. At this point, hell, like I said, Let 80 grand run the offense. Let Drake Jackson or bunch of Stallings coach the offensive line. They can do any worse.
Drew Franklin
That's right. Well, we appreciate the call. We knew Jerry'd be worked up. Also, I think. Isn't Drake Jackson at, like, Rhode island or something? Is he? I mean, he. Yeah, I think he's the. He's the coach at Rhode Island.
Billy Rutledge
Bring him down.
Drew Franklin
Maybe he could call plays from Rhode Island. Could be much worse.
Billy Rutledge
Johnson, we're all getting on the phone.
Drew Franklin
Shout out Drake Jackson, though. He's back. Back when they were rolling with the big blue wall. Miss those days.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah. And shout out to guys that are still in the league. I think Landon Young's doing things with the Saints. Can't name anymore, but yeah, there you go.
Drew Franklin
Nailed it. Well, who's up next?
Billy Rutledge
Cody's next.
Drew Franklin
Cody, what's up?
Caller
Hey, Drew. Long time since we talked, man. Sorry about the Manny news. That was terrible when I heard it last week, man.
Drew Franklin
Thank you. We lost a good one.
Caller
I mean, look, I've been on this train for a while, but, like, I just realized the good metaphor, we're on the Titanic. We're going down the ship. And you know when the iceberg was? It wasn't today. It wasn't. It wasn't last week. It wasn't the Louisville game last year. It was the Texas saying it was the Louisville game in 23, where the Texas A and M reneged. Happened. This thing was over after that. It's over. It's been over.
Drew Franklin
The timeline certainly backs you up there. There's no arguing against your point.
Caller
Still playing.
Drew Franklin
Yep. Well, we appreciate the call, but. Oh, we still have him.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, we do.
Drew Franklin
Sorry. Carry on.
Caller
Yeah, no, I mean, it's. I mean, today. I mean, who looks worse, Keegan, Bradley or Marsh? Dudes today.
Billy Rutledge
Oh, Keegan.
Drew Franklin
Don't make me think about the Ryder cup, too.
Billy Rutledge
He threw out Morikawa. In English twice.
Caller
Number 132 out of 1. Data Golf analytic pairing. He did it twice.
Drew Franklin
One of those days.
Caller
But I'd feel. I'd feel him. Honestly, I'd feel more comfortable with him calling an offense Bush.
Drew Franklin
And I appreciate the call. It's certainly a bad day for golf fans and Kentucky fans. And I don't like the Titanic metaphor, but you're not wrong. And I guess, Billy, are me and you the band that's still playing as it's going down? You got your violin over there?
Billy Rutledge
I guess.
Drew Franklin
Are we those guys?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Are we jumping off and trying to share a door like Jack and Rose out there? As this goes down, which. Which one to do which are we.
Billy Rutledge
The women and children need to be getting on the lifeboat.
Caller
All right.
Billy Rutledge
Right now.
Drew Franklin
As long as you're not painting me like one of your French girls. Who's up next?
Billy Rutledge
We got two more.
Drew Franklin
Two more.
Billy Rutledge
Casey is next.
Drew Franklin
Casey, what's up?
Caller
Hey, fellers.
Good afternoon.
Drew Franklin
Oh, this Casey. Hi, Casey.
Caller
Hey.
So would you guys say I'm a big fan of Kentucky sports?
Drew Franklin
I think that's fair.
Caller
Okay. Well, can I tell you what I did tonight? I went to a concert because I just saw this coming from a mile away. And I was lucky because at the concert, I could actually see a TV and watch the whole. I don't know if I would call it lucky getting to watch all that, but just we. It was 10 to 7. I look up and all of a sudden it's 28 to 10. I just don't even know, like, how it went. It goes so bad so fast. And so I'm worried. The reason I mentioned the concert. I'm worried about the apathy. Because if me consider myself a pretty big fan, if I'm skipping watching games to go to a concert, whatever is everybody else going to be doing by week 10 and week 11 when that's here. And so I think suits has to go. I don't know if during the season or wait till the end, but this is just really bad. But. And I just dread the Louisville game already so much.
Drew Franklin
But what concerts you go to?
Caller
I saw Haley Witters.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Caller
Up and coming. She's at the Burl. She's awesome.
Drew Franklin
All right. That sounds fun. Appreciate the call, Casey.
Caller
Want to, like such a joke. If everybody around you stinks and you're the middle person, you're probably the one that thinks. And I just feel like Stoops is the one that got to go. So I hope you guys have a great night. I think it's time. See you guys soon.
Drew Franklin
All right.
Billy Rutledge
Did not expect that.
Drew Franklin
Didn't either. She's trying to say, bye, Feller. Trying to get him out of here. Skipping games for concerts. Wish I'd skipped the game for concert. I think a lot of us would have. We got one more. Is it gonna be a good One. Don't give me a bad one. It's my first time hosting. It's been, I want to say it's been fun. It's been something. I've been here. It's been good seeing you, Billy. It's been an honor to have the opportunity. I apologize to everyone that I sound like my dog just died, but I kind of feel that way. Just very disappointed in the cats. Very somber tonight, and it's 1:00am well.
Billy Rutledge
The real problem would be if you were super enthusiastic. So I think, I think you're measured and with the right response here. But let's try to end it on a good one. If not, maybe we'll open back up the phones. Phil is up.
Drew Franklin
Phil, take us home.
Caller
All right. Well, yeah, you just gave me tons of pressure there.
Drew Franklin
No pressure. I'll yell if it's not good.
Caller
I did win money tonight, unfortunately, so I moved the line to South Carolina, minus nine and a half because, you know, I just knew what was coming. But my huge hit was there was a winning by margin is South Carolina to win by between 19 and 24. So we won by 22. So I hit that and that was huge as a plus 850.
Billy Rutledge
Oh, nice.
Caller
Obviously, I'm happy about that. Yeah, obviously. I mean, but, you know, I am a UK fan, okay? So I want us to win games. I, I, I feel like I am the only fan that would prefer us to be a football school than a basketball school. I, I want to win in football.
Drew Franklin
You're probably not alone in that. Did your big bet just. I don't want to get into your personal life, but did it pay out anywhere near like 40 million, ish? Anywhere close, anywhere in the ballpark, Maybe get it within 60 days?
Caller
No. You know, yeah, I did actually send a tweet to somebody. Like what they take Venmo 38 million.
Drew Franklin
We'll figure that one out.
Caller
Let me shuffle some money around.
Drew Franklin
Congratulations on your big win tonight. We appreciate the call. Maybe, maybe get a little sleep there. I want to rest up on that one.
Billy Rutledge
Margin of victory, though. That's a big hit.
Drew Franklin
Margin of victory. That's a big hit. I had Seth McGowan over 70 yards and Kendrick Law over 20 yards. I got a couple hits. Everybody loves hearing about bets, right?
Billy Rutledge
You guys took the over on every single prop on the pregame show today.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. All right. We did well. KSR parlay hit.
Billy Rutledge
The parlay hit today.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. We've hit enough KSR parlays already. We can go the rest of the year. It's all house money already made enough.
Billy Rutledge
But Mario's Both of his picks hit unfortunately.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, both Mario parlays hit but unfortunately it's hard to smile over a KSR parlay when Kentucky goes down to South Carolina needing a win needed to beat Ole Miss or South Carolina to have hopes before it just turns into an absolute gauntlet next week. But they came up short. Went up big early with an early touchdown, but then South Carolina took it the rest of the way, especially in that second quarter with four turnovers by the Cats, two of which went back for touchdowns on back to back plays beginning with Pete just not falling on the ball. Hold on to it Pete. But that was the story. All downhill from there. South Carolina's now 14 straight over Kentucky in the road is looking dark ahead. Guess next we're heading to Georgia, but for now we'll sign off from here on the Central Kentucky Select Toyota dealers post game show. Billy and I we had fun. We wish we had had a lot more fun with a win, but instead we're all even disappointed with lots of questions to answer.

Hosts: Drew Franklin & Billy Rutledge
Episode Date: September 28, 2025
Game: Kentucky Wildcats vs. South Carolina Gamecocks
Final Score: South Carolina 35, Kentucky 13
This postgame episode features Drew Franklin (filling in for Matt Jones) and Billy Rutledge breaking down Kentucky Football’s demoralizing 35-13 loss to South Carolina. It’s Drew’s first time hosting a postgame show, and unfortunately, it’s amidst growing fan unrest about head coach Mark Stoops and the trajectory of the football program. The show focuses on Kentucky's on-field struggles, Stoops' job security, poor offensive execution, and a palpable sense of apathy among fans. Listener callers add emotion and perspective from across Big Blue Nation.
This episode captures the low point (so far) of the 2025 Kentucky football season: a lopsided loss that inflames fan anger and resignation about the trajectory under Mark Stoops. Hosts Drew Franklin and Billy Rutledge balance grim statistical recaps and venting with moments of black humor, much of it courtesy of KSR’s lively callers and even the game’s television broadcast. The narrative is one of a program stuck, leaders under fire, and a fanbase losing hope—with most believing a coaching change is necessary but logistically (and financially) daunting. If you missed the episode, expect a raw, honest, and sometimes darkly amusing look at a fanbase in turmoil after a season-defining defeat.
Tone:
Somber, sarcastic, frustrated, occasionally irreverent—true “group therapy” for Kentucky fans.
