It is the local Toyota dealers. KSR post game show the Cats get their first NCAA tournament first round win, only their second NCAA tournament win since 2019 with a big victory this evening against Troy to move to the second round of the tournament second 79. 59. We are here in Milwaukee, myself and Ryan Lemon getting ready for the next hour to be with you to celebrate a number of important moments for Kentucky. First of all, they win. Go to the second round two. It is Mark Pope's first ever win in the NCAA tournament. And he celebrated exactly like he should have, which was with joy and happiness, Ryan Lemon. And it was good to see.
Ryan Lemon
Well, you said he thought he kind of choked up even a little bit when he was talking about it. Big, big night for him to get his first coaching win in the NCAA tournament at his alma mater, where it means so much to this fan base. I can see why he got a little choked up tonight.
Matt Jones
Yes, he should have. It was a. It was a really neat victory. And the Cats get a win. I have to tell you, we're sitting here, Ryan set us up right next to the cornhole table, and there's a man who's walked over here. He is playing a game of cornhole by himself. There's no one else here. Okay. Now he's walking away.
Ryan Lemon
And he was doing play by play.
Matt Jones
He was doing play by play of his own cornhole throws. He is now. That's great. He came, he threw both sets of bags, narrated it, and then just walked away. You got to love that confidence. All right, so let's. Let's talk about the game. But then where we are after that, Cats started out, it actually went, if I may, if I do say so myself, exactly like I said it would on the show. Stayed close at the beginning. Yep, got it to eight at halftime. We kept the lead, kind of extend it back, extend it back. Ended up winning by 20. Really. It was a game, Ryan, that I think were two big runs. I mean, ultimately that's. There were two big runs. We made a huge run at the end of the first half, went from 25, 24 to an 8 point lead. And then in the second half, it was basically 8 to 10 point lead, and we extended it to 20 in about a minute and a half run. Those were really the two. That's two keys of the game.
Ryan Lemon
And I don't know if DraftKings had it that that room is going to be sparked by Colin Chandler and Brandon Garrison. They had like every point in that one run. Midway through the second half, Chandler comes off just bombing, bombing. And you could tell when he hit that first one, he couldn't wait to shoot the second one.
Matt Jones
So, yes, and otega away, all three guys. By the way, who will be back next year?
Ryan Lemon
I will be back Yeah, I mean.
Matt Jones
I noticed when they were on the, when they were on the podium, the three guys that were up there are all guys that. In that hopefully. And I don't see any reason why they wouldn't would be back next which would be very, very exciting. So, you know, I thought Troy played really great defense and I actually thought Kentucky played really good defense back offensively, missed a lot of layups. At one point it was 9 for 17 for the line. I think they finished maybe 8 for 19. Lot of layups they missed.
Ryan Lemon
I don't know how many two footers that poor Amari just could not get to go down. Why don't he just dunk it? You're close. You're bigger and stronger than those guys. Just throw it down, son. Because he missed a bunch of two foot.
Matt Jones
He missed a bunch. Now we found out after the game that he had a back injury.
Ryan Lemon
Didn't know that till I heard that.
Matt Jones
He hurt his back in practice yesterday.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And so by hurting his back in practice yesterday, it clearly had an impact. That might explain why he didn't dunk it as much.
Ryan Lemon
I think so. You know, he had the one. We went coast to coast and threw it down.
Matt Jones
That was a great play.
Ryan Lemon
That was a great play. But he just didn't seem himself and maybe that's why, maybe the back was bothering a little bit. But I heard coach Pope say in the post game he came out of the game okay. I guess that means they felt like it didn't get any worse.
Matt Jones
By the way, if you hear the back, he came back to narrate his own play by play, so. And he's brought other people, so he may be here a while. I think so. You may just get that sound in the background. That's the way it's going to be. He's clearly an animated fellow, wouldn't you say?
Ryan Lemon
And I have yet to see him actually throw the cornhole.
Matt Jones
He does a lot of. He does a lot of talking now. Colin Chandler. Well, first of all, always the key to the game, I mean, always played awesome. I think was 8 for 13 from the field, scored when we needed it. Whenever there was a time that we weren't getting a bucket, he was the one. He was the one that would get it.
Ryan Lemon
You're right. When they needed a bucket away went and got the bucket. He carried him a lot in the first half. Him and Andrew Carr kind of carried him in the first half. Second half, like I said, the run was Chandler and Hall, they. Brandon Garrison, who he had another three.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, although when he took the two in the first half, I was like, all right, man, it's all right. Settled down, confident. He kept firing a Matt and then Colin Chandler. I mean, look, I sort of wondered why he didn't get the Travis Perry minutes in the first half. Yeah, right. I was like, why aren't they going with him? And then the second half he just completely kids getting more and more confident by the day. And I, I love the way he can play offense.
Ryan Lemon
You know, when he brings that to the table. He just. We thought he was just gonna be a defensive specialist, but now he's found the offensive game where he's earned more minutes. I do want to point out to Trent, Noah's three kind of sparked us in the first half. That kind of let us actually think.
Matt Jones
That was the biggest shot of the game.
Ryan Lemon
You do you. Yeah, yeah.
Matt Jones
It was 25, 24. We were stuck in a rut. It was like we're up two, we're up four, we're up two, we're up one. And then that was the three that got it to four. And then they came down and then the next possess. We got a block. I think Amari got a block. And then we came down and car hit a three. That little sequence. Yeah, Noah three block. Car three gave us a lead that we didn't give up for the rest of the game.
Ryan Lemon
You're right.
Matt Jones
So I actually do think that little sequence was probably the most important thing.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, that's, that's, that's a good argument. Because that I knew was a big shot when Trent hit it. Cuz we were kind of just going in slow motion. I mean it got. I told you this way after the game said it kind of got boring there a little time. But then you said, but we wanted.
Matt Jones
Why would you have wanted this game to be. Be exciting? We want this game to be boring. We wanted to win without. I mean Troy plays a style that it's going to be very hard to get explosive runs against. Yeah, I mean they basically were saying we're. They took the opposite approach. I thought they would. I thought they'd be like, we're not letting you score in the paint. Beat us from three. They took the opposite. We're not going to let you beat us from three. Try to score in the paint. We just missed a ton of layups.
Ryan Lemon
We just missed.
Matt Jones
They did not double when we. When they went to the bigs double. And then our guys just couldn't finish.
Ryan Lemon
That's when I thought Amari is just going to eat all day. I just thought, he's going to end up with, like, 30 points and 20 rebounds where they would start it out.
Matt Jones
I actually respect the decision. And honestly, if we had not left their bigs open, they might not have scored. Like, their threes were their big hitting shots, which we knew coming in the game. That's what they were the best at.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Their best three point shooter was their big guy, their six, eight guy that they had out there. So I know just. Just to me, kind of a relief. You get that first win.
Matt Jones
Oh, I would definitely say it's a relief.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
This fan base was very nervous.
Ryan Lemon
Amen.
Matt Jones
I mean, I was very nervous.
Ryan Lemon
Yes, you were.
Matt Jones
I walked out of the arena as soon as it started. What are you laughing?
Ryan Lemon
I mean, it was the first game for Pope's career in the NCAA term. You could have stuck around for maybe the first TV timeout.
Matt Jones
I watched it.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Matt Jones
You want to know where I watched it?
Ryan Lemon
Where'd you go?
Matt Jones
St. Kate's Art Hotel.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, you did the team hotel.
Matt Jones
Walk to the team hotel. Very nice hotel. And stood in the bar and watched it. There was a. A main. There was like a main television that had. They had. Marquette was playing.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
So they had the Marquette game on. And the people were into the Marquette game. There's a little side television. I could just go back there and stand and watch Kentucky and it was left alone and. And watch the whole game there.
Ryan Lemon
So even though you had a pass and the arena was right around the corner, you chose to watch it in a corner. And this eclectic bar.
Matt Jones
It wasn't eclectic. It was the team hotel. I went to the official. They were not there.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Can I also point something out about the way these guys are playing? Cornhole.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
They're not playing it the correct way. I don't think they know they're supposed to stand on the same side. You see what they're doing? Like, he's throwing it that way, and he's throwing it that way. But they're supposed to be on the same side throwing against each other. Do you think they know that?
Ryan Lemon
Well, maybe these are Milwaukee rules that.
Matt Jones
We'Re not privy to. Tell them.
Ryan Lemon
No, no. Yes. I'd let him go.
Matt Jones
Yes, sir. Oh, here we go. Sir, sir, can I. Can I borrow you just a second? I'm on the radio. I need you on here for just a second. No cussing, Okay? I don't know if you cuss, but you cannot cuss. All right? What. What is your name, sir? My name is Kevin. Kevin, where do You. Are you from Milwaukee? Kevin is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Okay, Kevin, you're playing cornhole here. I don't think you know the rules. I don't. Okay, I'm gonna explain to you. You and your friend going against each other. You're both supposed to be on the same side, because then the point at cornhole is, all right, he throws the orange bag, then you throw. Next you try to knock his bag off. You see what I'm saying? You're not supposed to be on opposite sides. You're supposed to both be on this side, then you come here, and you both go to this side, then you come here, and you both go to that side. So they've been cheating? No, they haven't been cheating. It's just. You're not playing the. Like, you're like. Look how they're playing. See how they're all on the same side. Yeah. You guys both want to be on the same side because you're. You're playing against each other, right? Yeah.
Kevin
So you.
Matt Jones
You have to be on the same side and throw it to that side. Kevin, wait a minute. Do you want to. This is a huge audience listening. Do you want to tell them anything about you? Yeah. My name is Kevin Wedgeworth. I am a hard, motivating, independent, driven black man that is trying to put this ball inside of this hole. It's a bag. Yeah, I'm trying to put the bag in the hole. Okay. Yeah. This is my first time, and I've never been to this Third Street Market since it's been the Grand. And I'm gonna tell you firsthand, this is amazing. It is experience. The. The. The. The.
Ryan Lemon
The.
Matt Jones
The food, the culture. Yeah. It's just too much. We're from Kentucky. What do you know? We're from Kentucky. We're here. Kentucky. Kentucky Blast Basketball's playing in town. Cool. And they won tonight. So do you have a message for the people of Kentucky? Yes, I do. Okay.
Ryan Lemon
Marquette lost.
Matt Jones
I know, but Kentucky won. I can be damned if it's Kentucky. All right, do you know the rules now? You ready to play? I definitely got the rules now, and I'm. Let's go. Good luck. All right. All right. Thank you very much. There you go. There it is. I feel like I did a good deed. I taught him the rules. I taught him the rules of Cornhole.
Ryan Lemon
You know, we've seen and heard and done some crazy things on these postgame basketball shows, but you teaching rules to the guys about how to play cornhole.
Matt Jones
Well, it was bothering me that I didn't feel like they knew how to play.
Ryan Lemon
You know, I think they're just in it for the fun, you know.
Matt Jones
But now they can play better.
Ryan Lemon
Cuz they can.
Matt Jones
He's going to explain the rules. See, Billy, I think I did something positive, didn't I? I think you changed his life. I think I made his life better. Yes, by explaining to him the rules of cornhole.
Ryan Lemon
He is now ch telling his buddies.
Matt Jones
See, now look, this whole group of people now knows how to play one of America's pastimes. And before, they didn't know how to play. Okay, as you can see, it is.
Ryan Lemon
Very energetic going on. Right?
Matt Jones
Thank you very much, Ryan, for putting us right here for the show. 859-280-2287. Kentucky will play the winner of Illinois and Xavier. Right now. Illinois leads 3530. I'm going to tell you, folks, watch it at home, not because of who's good and who's bad. I'm pulling for Xavier because Illinois got a lot of people here. And if we play Illinois Sunday, we're playing a road game.
Ryan Lemon
That arena when we left was probably. I'm not kidding, 70, 75% orange. Very Illinois orange.
Matt Jones
Very rare for BBN to have.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
A road game in the postseason. We'll have one Sunday if we play.
Ryan Lemon
Troy hardly had anybody. Xavier hardly had anybody. It was all Troy and Kentucky.
Matt Jones
It was all Illinois and Kentucky. I'm sorry, but I think Illinois had more people.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, about three times as many people.
Matt Jones
Yeah. We'll take a break. Be right back. This is the Local Toy Dealers KSR Postgame Show. Welcome back. It is the local toy dealers KSR postgame show. One person writes on the text machine. 772-774-5254. This is exactly how Kentucky's first win in the last couple years in the tournament should be.
Ryan Lemon
You may need to have another conversation with him.
Matt Jones
Why?
Ryan Lemon
They don't know how to keep score.
Matt Jones
Okay, Come here. So, Kevin, Kevin, Kevin, come here. I want to. Kevin, Kevin. You know, I got to teach you how to keep score real quick. Okay? All right, so put that, put that back on, Kevin. Here's how you do both. All right? So the way you go, if you're going against him, you have the orange bag, you throw the first one. Okay, cool. And then he throws one. Cool. Then you throw one. Then he throws one. Oh, and at the end, if the ball went in the hole, two points or the the bag, if it's left on the board, it's one. So he throws one. Then you throw it. You try to knock him off?
Ryan Lemon
Sure.
Matt Jones
Yes. Does that make sense? So. So do I. Not my. You don't. You want to keep yours off? Yeah. You're going against him. You're trying to knock his bags off. Yeah. Beat it. So he's not my teammate. Well, not if he's on the same side as you. You're going against him. Each other. Like you. Your teammate needs to be over there. You see, my God, we sitting here playing Love Boat and it's totally not that. It's not Love Boat. No. Oh my God. It's like. It's like BattleBots. You're going, he. That's your enemy right there. I don't want him. You don't want him to be your enemy? You wouldn't be your friend. Well, yeah, cuz I got to go against them. No, no, you. He needs to be over there and one of them needs to be over here. Showtime. Showtime. All right. Good luck. Yeah. Showtime. There we go.
Ryan Lemon
So him and his teammate are on the same end?
Matt Jones
Yeah. They don't know. I don't know if they know how to play, but that's okay. It looks like they're having fun.
Ryan Lemon
They're having tons of fun and so is everybody who's right here.
Matt Jones
Who else is having fun? Me. Most of these last few postgame shows have me being depressed trying to figure out whether or not to say John, Cal, Peri needs to go. And now I'm with Kevin and I'm talking cornhole. And it's a much more positive time.
Ryan Lemon
Hey, last year at this time, that post game show, you did say it was time for John Caliper to go, remember?
Matt Jones
And it was a very difficult decision. Illinois is up 3735 on Xavier. Just real quick, before we go, the phones, when it comes to time of the game, okay. We do not know what time Kentucky is going to play. We will know when all the games are over. Tonight looks like Illinois is going to lead by five at halftime. Here's my prediction, right? If Yukon wins, then that means in Raleigh they'll have Florida, Yukon and Duke, Baylor on cbs. The early games. The two early games are standalone, right?
Ryan Lemon
Right.
Matt Jones
I think that duo of games will. They'll probably put those of them at 12 and 230, which I think means Kentucky will play at 5.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
If however, UConn were to lose to Oklahoma, then I think what they would do is put us at 230, Duke at 5. Just my prediction. But if UConn wins, then I would guess we play at 5. If UConn loses, I would guess we play at 230, because I think no matter what, the Duke and Kentucky game are going to be either at 230 or 5, because CBS is going to want those games in its prime position.
Ryan Lemon
So from the Milwaukee session, you think our game would be before the Iowa State game? Either way. Either scenario.
Matt Jones
I think. No, I think if Yukon wins, it'll be before Iowa State. If Yukon loses, I think we'd be the second.
Ryan Lemon
Be the second game.
Matt Jones
But again, I'm. I'm guessing. I'm just trying to act like I'm a TV programmer right now. I. I should have never told. These people are going absolutely crazy. Look at them. I mean, we've. Kevin, we have created an absolute circus hero. I live it.
Ryan Lemon
They've got. At least they got the team split up correctly.
Matt Jones
Shannon is just laughing over there. Can you believe this?
Ryan Lemon
These UK fans are over here clapping.
Matt Jones
No, we're out of control. What else could you want out of Friday night when you beat Troy in the tournament? Who's up first? Nick is up first. Nick. Go ahead, Nick. Hey, guys.
Ryan Lemon
How are y'all tonight?
Matt Jones
Doing great. Hey, is there any chance I can speak to Kevin? No, no, Kevin, He's. He's. He's up in the game now. That's pretty good. Hey, two things. One, they're not calling foul, so I.
Ryan Lemon
Hope Kentucky's ready to come out solid.
Matt Jones
And also, Matt, do you know what time they play on Sunday? Just. Just curious. Do not. I appreciate the call. I think that's an important point about the fouls.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
We've been watching games for a day and a half. They're not calling as near. They are not calling fouls, and they're not calling fouls. And the game is not as physical as in the SEC. I think the SEC's got to look at itself in the mirror somehow. The SEC has found itself in very physical games with a ton of foul calls. These are not. These games are. They're not as physical. They're not calling fouls. Kentucky, I think, actually plays all right in that scenario, but they have to kind of be ready for it.
Ryan Lemon
It's been interesting to hear the last month Coach Pope talk about how they had to learn how to play in this more physical league. The sec, well, now it's away because they're letting everything go, especially, like, the end of the end of the half into the game, man. They're not. They're swallowing their whistle.
Matt Jones
I mean, the SEC is going to finish eight and six probably if Oklahoma Loses on the, on the first two to two days of games. In my opinion. The SEC had seven really good teams and then Arkansas became the eighth at the end of the year. Yeah, I genuinely believe Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ole Miss and who am I missing? Texas A and M were all very good. I thought Mississippi State was good but got worse. And I think Arkansas wasn't good but got better. And I think honestly our eight good teams advanced and it's looking like the other six are not going to.
Ryan Lemon
I got to look at my brackets when I get home. But how many are going to make it to the sweet 16? How, how setting up?
Matt Jones
I think we will get, I think we'll get four and then we would be the fifth. So, so are we going to win? I mean, I think, I think Florida, Auburn, Alabama and Tennessee are all going to win. So we'll either get, It'll be up to us to get the fifth because I think Ole Miss will, will lose to Iowa State. I think Arkansas loses St. John. Arkansas, I mean, they could win that game. Yeah, I'll say six, actually. I think either Arkansas beats St. John's or Ole Miss beats Iowa State. I do not think Texas. Who does Texas A and M play? Well, they could win too, honestly. Yeah, I, I, I, I. Any of those teams could win, to be quite frank with you, I, we're not going to get eight, but it's not crazy.
Ryan Lemon
That's crazy. Just to get six out of 16. They play Michigan.
Matt Jones
Who? So A and M place Michigan. I think that's a toss up. A and M and Michigan. Taco, I think us in Illinois, to be quite frank with you, is probably a toss up. Yeah, I think St. John's is favorite against Arkansas, but I could see him winning and Ohio State or excuse me, Iowa State's gonna be favorite against Ole Miss, but I could see them winning if they play, if they play well.
Ryan Lemon
It'S gonna be a fun couple days here.
Matt Jones
I feel sorry for Shannon and Vandy over here because that was. They were up 12.
Ryan Lemon
Shannon called that game perfectly. He knew. He said Benny's gonna jump out ahead. We get about 10 or 12 points and then they'll blow the lead in the second half. That's exactly what happened.
Matt Jones
Everybody in this world should be as happy as these. As Kevin and his friends are now playing. I'm going to tweet a picture now of me and Kevin so that people can see what he looks like. Mario took a picture. All right, who's up next?
Ryan Lemon
Skyler.
Matt Jones
Skyler, go ahead. Skyler.
Ryan Lemon
Hey, Skyler Dean, want to shout out Dr. Greg Robson?
Matt Jones
Hey, Matt, I'm curious. Did you think we were operating operating.
Ryan Lemon
At like 60 pace throughout that entire game?
Matt Jones
I mean, not, not just the pace.
Kevin
Of the game, but like energy level.
Matt Jones
I just felt like we were a little bit draggy.
Kevin
And I'm not complaining. I'm happy that we got Caliperi off our back. I mean, that monkey of winless win.
Ryan Lemon
This couple years ago.
Matt Jones
But what'd you think? I mean, I think we were at the beginning a little bit like that, but I think honestly, Troy does that to you. I, I appreciate the call. I didn't get the beginning of the game, Ryan. We were, we were trying to push tempo and it was leading us to take bad shots that we were missing. I think we started one for eight from three, I think. Then we started playing. Then we started playing the tempo they wanted. And oddly we played better in that tempo. But it may have looked like we were dragging because they kind of dictated the tempo a lot in this game.
Ryan Lemon
They did, to their credit. They did a good job of slowing it down, trying to make it a half court game as much as possible. But then once started, like you said, when Noah hit the three, once we finally got some threes going down, it was hard to get the. That momentum to stop for him.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I. But I don't think it was like, I mean, look, this team is very wounded. Butler is clearly playing hurt. Amari was playing hurt tonight. Apparently Travis Perry is playing hurt. Yeah, you know, I. This is a. I mean, this is a mash unit of a team that you just have to hope gets through game by game.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. I don't think Butler scored a point tonight. You can tell he had shot a couple shots, had open looks and missed him bad, so.
Matt Jones
Missed a couple layups.
Ryan Lemon
Missed a couple layups. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah. But we still need him out there.
Ryan Lemon
We're just so much better when he's on the floor.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Michigan State leads Bryant by 2. Bryant trying to be the only. Right now, none of the top four seeds have lost.
Ryan Lemon
Kind of been chalky.
Matt Jones
Been very chalky. I mean, your only two upsets are McNeese and Colorado State, which were games a lot of people picked.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So who's up next?
Ryan Lemon
Butler's next.
Matt Jones
Butler. Go ahead, Butler. Hey, guys. Go Cats. Go Cats. Yeah, absolutely. My thing is, and I hate saying this, it breaks my heart because Butler's my favorite player, obviously. Does it not seem like we're playing better when he's not on the floor? Now since he's injured because he. You can watch him. His left shoulder and his left arm. He don't move it much until he goes to shoot, and when he shoots, he misses. His defense presence obviously helps us. I mean, but if his offensive presence isn't there now, are we not doing better with him on the bench? I hate saying that. It kills me. I. I don't think so. No. I. I don't think so. And especially when we play. If. Let's say we play Illinois. I mean, I appreciate the call. You know, they got a top 10 pick on their team. Butler and Away are going to probably take turns gardening. I love Travis Perry. He can't guard that guy, right?
Ryan Lemon
No, he can't.
Matt Jones
No, he cannot. Trent Noah can't guard that guy. Can't guard that guy. I mean, so. No. Now, does he maybe hurt us a little bit offensively, maybe. But the pickup on defense, which. What. What I think is underrated, is how well he played against the conference player of the year.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
For Troy, their point guard, when he guarded him, the only little run that guy had was when we substituted in. Took Butler out.
Ryan Lemon
Even tonight. Troy's best player really was their point guard. Do you remember your point guard hurting you at all tonight? Didn't. That's because of Lamont Butler. I think he ended up maybe 10 or 12 points, but he did nothing to really hurt us tonight. That's. That's why you have Butler on the court.
Matt Jones
By the way, I gave you the wrong rules. It's supposed to be three points in the hole.
Ryan Lemon
What did you tell him?
Matt Jones
I think I said two. But you know what? I think they're enjoying it.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
There's no reason to.
Ryan Lemon
No sense mess with them now. They're in a groove right now.
Matt Jones
They are in a group, and I'm not sure they're playing by the rules anyway.
Ryan Lemon
Well, I think. Cornhole. You can come up with your own rules as you go along. You know, you have. Just call it a hangar.
Matt Jones
Why did you pick this spot? I mean, like, literally, I think you picked the loudest spot.
Ryan Lemon
We had two private rooms that are really nice, but nobody was going to be around.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but I wanted a little ambiance, but you ended up putting us in the Thunderdome here.
Ryan Lemon
You've got ambiance. You want an ambiance? We got you some ambiance right here.
Matt Jones
That's for sure. I think one of them's good. Shannon's gonna get hit by one of these bags, these wayward bags. Who's next?
Ryan Lemon
Nobody has screamed this much playing the sport of cornhole.
Matt Jones
And it's, it's a lot of screaming. Go ahead, Soul Train. Soul Train, how are you? What's going on? Matt Jones and company and go Big Blue. Go Big Blue. That's right. You know, hey, man, let me tell you, me and my girlfriend, stepdad, we was watching the game and he was saying to me, as long as Kentucky plays, don't play it out high tempo.
Ryan Lemon
And play at, you know, just be patient.
Matt Jones
They get good shots and they, they made a lot of good shots when they were like, patient and everything. I, I am very proud of them. This is, you know, this is a great win for them. Take it one game at a time. But what do you think? You think Kentucky real good at being, you know, playing at a high tempo or should they like. Well, you know, it depends on who they're playing against. I mean, I, I appreciate the, you know, earlier this year, I thought teams that slowed us down really hurt us. And then it's like we found something in the Tennessee game to where we did better against teams like that. When we played fast dipo teams like Alabama, we got run off the court. So I don't really know, to be honest with you.
Ryan Lemon
They are kind of hard to figure out because they know who won. I guess I know who just won that game.
Matt Jones
I'm sorry. Go ahead.
Ryan Lemon
I don't even remember what I was saying. Are we talking about tempo?
Matt Jones
This scene here is absolute insanity. I mean, Billy, have you ever heard a cornhole game with this much inside?
Ryan Lemon
It's unbelievable.
Matt Jones
It's unbelievable. I wish you could see Kevin. He dances before every throw. Mario, I'm sure will film some of it here. The Kevin Corn. He said what? He said, I'm an independent, motivated black man.
Ryan Lemon
That what he said.
Matt Jones
I think that's what he said. Oh, my goodness. Mark Pope's market is what Mark Pope is. I saw his wife and his wife just gave me a hug and said, we are so happy for what you all do. I have this dream that they are like driving down the road right now, turning show on. They go, what is everybody saying? And they're here.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, let's listen to our fans. After the big win we just got.
Matt Jones
Against Troy, by the way, did you see the. The picture that I took of the two of them?
Ryan Lemon
Oh, of Mark and Leanne? Yeah, I saw that.
Matt Jones
I mean, I think this is like an award winning picture.
Ryan Lemon
That is a really good picture.
Matt Jones
Really, really good picture.
Ryan Lemon
I didn't want to print that one and put it on their wall.
Matt Jones
I showed it to her. I said. And she was like, oh. And I thought, yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's get Drew a headset here. 592-80-22-87. Here you go, Drew. Who's next?
Ryan Lemon
Stub.
Matt Jones
Stub. Go ahead. Stubborn Matt.
Ryan Lemon
A long time ago, I had a coach tell me, he said, michael, if you're going to be successful, you need.
Matt Jones
To have a belief. If you believe, and I can't say.
Ryan Lemon
It, but it starts with mother. He said, you need to have one on your team. Well, tonight, Amari Williams and Brandon Garrison were those. They had 18 points, 19 rebounds, six assistants.
Matt Jones
Yeah, the 19 rebounds were huge. I mean, remember, this is one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country. And, you know, we didn't. We gave up a couple, but we didn't. They didn't really crush us. And so you're right, I do think those guys were big.
Ryan Lemon
That's all I got. Have a good one, buddy.
Matt Jones
Appreciate it. Drew is just coming. First of all, Drew, you've missed quite a scene.
Kevin
I was listening on my 15 minute walk and I'm like, do I really want to keep walking towards this? Yes, I do.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's pretty.
Ryan Lemon
That had to explain.
Kevin
What do you say? We're trying to play Love Boat over here. I don't even know what that means.
Matt Jones
I don't know what it means to play Love Boat, but he did say that real quick. What did you think of the game? Actually, Troy had 11 offensive, more than I realized, but go ahead.
Kevin
I don't know what's already been addressed, but for 15 minutes of the game, I don't think I took a breath. It was very uncomfortable in there. And then Sweet Mountain angel baby hit the corner three. And that 100 run, even though there was a second half run, a lot of basketball left, that was the cushion we all needed to exhale, completely change the game. And just now in the postgame comments, of course, playing to the Kentucky crowd, he told Jack Pilgrim, I pretended to be Malik Monk on my mini hoop, hitting that shot in between at halftime of March Madness games on tv. So that just aided everyone's heart. Trent Noah said, I, I took that shot many times as Malik Monk on my mini hoop. So I know there was a lot more to the game, but that run changed everything. Ending with Mari's Costa coast dunk. That I think was the real play of the game.
Matt Jones
Yeah, two. Two runs. Yeah, right at the end of the first half. And then the Colin Chandler run. I mean, I think those are the two runs that ultimately. That ultimately Got us victory. Were you glad they got to play the walk ons?
Ryan Lemon
Yes, I wish they would play the walk ons more. They practice. They go to every practice. Why can't you put them in at.
Matt Jones
The end of the game? They've even won over like, like angry, like even angry, cynical. Shannon is clapping today.
Kevin
That's his first smile this weekend.
Matt Jones
You haven't smiled since we got here Wednesday and look at him smiling now.
Ryan Lemon
He's loving it. Well, how can you not love what Kevin, Here goes the throw.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Kevin
These guys are awesome.
Matt Jones
An independent, motivated black man. Kevin. That's what he said and now I just tweeted out the picture. Mario, do you have a video of Mario, do you have a video of his pre shot routine? His pre shot routine? You've got to get a video. Yeah, that's not pop up. This is great content.
Kevin
Go live on Instagram.
Matt Jones
Yeah, go live on Instagram.
Kevin
Show everybody coming.
Matt Jones
Yes, go live on Instagram. KSR the show. Wait till it's his turn again. Mario, wait and then go live on Instagram. We're going to take a break and be right back. It's the local Toyota dealers KSR post game show. Welcome back. It is the local Toyota dealers KSR postgame show. In an update, Shannon has teamed up with Kevin to take on two strangers in cornhole. Mario is filming it on the KSR the show page. Exactly what you thought would happen. Randy tweeted in drew and said, I turned on the postgame show to hear about the game. Not stupid cornhole. I turned it off and I responded, shut up, Randy.
Kevin
I got to admit, I think this is awesome. Like I said, I was listening on my walk over here. I started to run because I didn't want to miss out on the, on the scene.
Matt Jones
One serious thing that I'm going to try to do. Amongst this chaos, UK legend Vernon Hatton passed away. Yes. The team actually apparently went and saw him. This was it this week before, I.
Ryan Lemon
Think Mark said before they came to Milwaukee.
Matt Jones
So this week and he passed away. Mark mentioned it during the postgame show. A legend of UK basketball jersey in the Raptors. One of the greats to ever play.
Ryan Lemon
Here especially you know, he's from Lexington, played at Lafayette High school, was Kentucky Mr. Basketball then was a businessman in Lexington. Just kind of a, a, a titan of a man in electionary when it comes to, when it comes to basketball. And he will be sadly, sadly missed.
Matt Jones
That's right.
Kevin
NCAA champion. And I have his autograph on a free in his shirt. I got to meet him years ago, and I haven't had a free in his shirt in my car. And I was like, do you mind if I run out and get this? And he signed it.
Matt Jones
And a big shout out to Mark Pope for taking his team.
Ryan Lemon
Amen.
Matt Jones
I mean, think about that. That's. That's. That's generations of UK players. That's one of the people that built the program. That's a member of maybe the greatest team to ever play here in 1996. And now this generation, Mark, tying three different generations of UK players together, I think that's awesome.
Ryan Lemon
And I think that's what makes Pope special. He gets it. He understands the lineage of the people that played here to kind of blaze that path of everybody else to play now.
Matt Jones
So, yes, he does. I. Can I tell you two quick things. One, an embarrassing thing. Shannon and Kevin won.
Kevin
We've lost Shannon to Kevin.
Matt Jones
Shannon. Shannon's gonna be moving in with Kevin. I think they have this thing where they. That you have to do when you ask questions. You know this. You have to say the question. You have to say your name and where you're from.
Ryan Lemon
Right?
Matt Jones
Right. So you have to go, Matt Jones, Kentucky Sports Radio. The first question was Daryl Bird, but he had already asked a question to the players before Mark got in there, so you only have to say it once. So he had already said his name. So he didn't say his name and did it. The guy hands me the microphone, and then. And. And then the next guy that asked had already asked one, too. So two people had gone before me.
Ryan Lemon
And had already asked a question, identified themselves already.
Matt Jones
Yes. So I had not. So when I got to Mark, the guy before he handed me the mic said, make sure to say your name and where you're from. And I said, matt Jones, Kentucky Sports Radio. And Mark goes, I think we all know who you are. And I was like, mark's gonna think that I. Even though nobody else did.
Ryan Lemon
You're just following protocol.
Matt Jones
He told me to say my name. I wanted to go, well, wait a minute. He's the one that told me to say my name. Second thing, we're not gonna say Billy, who the media member was. Okay. Billy not gonna say who the media member was.
Ryan Lemon
Won't say it.
Matt Jones
But a media member lost it tonight. I mean, lost it Backstage, stage. They didn't. So they only give, what, seven seats on.
Kevin
Not many.
Matt Jones
They give, like, seven seats on the floor.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Matt Jones
And by the way, I don't know how they decide who they give them. I know I never get one. I know Drew never gets one.
Kevin
I couldn't even see half the court in my seat.
Matt Jones
But, like seven people get it. Jack got one.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. You know the Courier Journal Courier.
Matt Jones
I didn't get one. I don't know.
Kevin
Courier was up top.
Matt Jones
I don't know. It doesn't matter. Yeah, somebody got it, but one person didn't get it. And that person lost it. Oh, I mean, lost it. Put on a scene for the ages.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, my.
Matt Jones
Backstage for the ages. And I will say it's not who you think, probably, but for like for the ages scene. Drew, that still is the talk of the game in the media.
Kevin
And it worked because they, they pulled up a chair and found a seat for that person. But it was such a talk around the arena in the second half. You know, Illinois plays next. Some Illinois, like young college age kids sit down next to me, have to scoot over, let them in, and they are talking about the Kentucky media member. It got to the, like the Illinois people. It was such a big deal.
Matt Jones
It was for. I mean, literally, I think Otega away was more interested in that than the game.
Ryan Lemon
I, I had heard that this media member went after a member of the UK brass.
Matt Jones
Yes. But was really yelling at anyone near.
Ryan Lemon
But UK UK has nothing to do.
Matt Jones
With people working the concessions. Just in yell at Kevin. And by the way, from a stature standpoint, nowhere close to other people in terms of followers and readers and listeners. Didn't matter.
Ryan Lemon
Didn't matter.
Matt Jones
It was. It was one.
Kevin
When I was in the back row of the top level, I thought I got to get on a more popular radio show and a more popular website. I'm. I'm the last seat in the building.
Ryan Lemon
Kevin, just hold one.
Matt Jones
And Kevin is giving DX chop to his opponents with Shannon. All right, who's up next? Kentucky.
Ryan Lemon
Dale.
Matt Jones
Kentucky. Gail, what's up? Hey, man. Hey. I just had a question. I know I'm talking to two people, especially you, that make promises their ass can't cash, like fade this podcast on March Madness Week. But I just had a question. I, I love it, by the way. It's my favorite podcast, literally. But also I made a. I made a promise to all my friends. If Kentucky makes the final four, I have to convert to Mormonism. So how does soaking work? Like, do I have to have, like, people on the side? It has to be after midnight before we could talk about that. But I, I appreciate the call. We can't, We, We. We can't do that. But I will say there, there will be, there will be some, some excitement if we were to do that. I just want to win the next game. Well, first of all, I wanted to win this game. I'm not going to say I'll be happy if we lose round two, but when you consider the injuries and everything, for me, this was the game we just had to win.
Kevin
Definitely a big sigh of relief. I mean, nobody wants to lose in round two, but just getting past this one was huge. Where we could all excel. Illinois is up 6. I'm telling you right now, I've never been a bigger fan of any team than I am of Xavier right now. Because there were more Illinois fans at our game tonight than their. Than Kentucky.
Matt Jones
I'll go ahead and tell you, the ticket on Sunday, if Illinois wins, is going to be one of the hardest tickets for one of these first and second round games ever.
Ryan Lemon
Because the whole first session was all Iowa State fans. They're gonna buy up a bunch of tickets.
Matt Jones
Ton of Iowa State fans here. There are a ton of Illinois fans here. If it is Illinois, Kentucky and Iowa State, Ole Miss does not have many people.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, there are probably some people who were thinking, I'm just going to drive up on Saturday and go to the Sunday game against Illinois. Yeah, that's going to be tough.
Matt Jones
It's going to be tough. I must say this. I'm glad Iowa State's in it. So it's not all Illinois.
Ryan Lemon
That's true.
Matt Jones
Because Illinois had a ton of people there tonight and I think they're going to have. They're up 10 now. I think they're going to have a ton of people if they play us on. On.
Kevin
Oh, yeah. From my vantage point, I could see every seat in the building beneath me, and there was a lot more orange than blue. I mean, the people that were there were giving it their best, but that was one of the lowest turnouts from Kentucky fans for a game like this that I can remember.
Matt Jones
It is definitely one. I mean, the only one I could think lower was Boise, which was on the other side of the country.
Ryan Lemon
You can expect it there.
Matt Jones
But this was. This was a low one. And I think it'll be interesting to see what.
Kevin
Maybe we need to get Kevin and his friends a ticket and UK shirts. They'll bring the noise.
Ryan Lemon
I'm going to tell you something. You have just developed a professional cornhole player. He's hitting everything.
Kevin
He's got a strut. He already has a celly.
Ryan Lemon
You are just. You have created a monster here.
Matt Jones
Change this man's life.
Ryan Lemon
Yes, you have.
Matt Jones
Who's up next?
Ryan Lemon
Daryl.
Matt Jones
Daryl. Go ahead. Daryl. What's up, guys? What's going on? Darrell from Bowling Green. What's going on? Daryl from. Daryl from Bowling Green. I just want to say I'm a blessed man. I got my kids and grandkids from Florida and. And Mayfield here. And we are enjoying the games and they all want to say something. Y'all ready, guys? One, two, three. There you go. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Glad to see that energy. Need to some have some of it here. Maybe not in this post game show where I think there's plenty of energy, but for Kentucky here on Sunday.
Ryan Lemon
I wonder what we can do between now and Sunday to help our Kentucky fan base that are here because more Kevin. We. We. Maybe we could recruit Kevin to come and be a part of our fan base, you know?
Matt Jones
Now Shannon can't miss. Shannon's got the Kevin energy now. He can't miss.
Ryan Lemon
Marquette got beat. Maybe we can all recruit all the Marquette people to come be on our side now.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, Shannon hit another one. They're on fire. Kevin and Shannon are like on fire.
Matt Jones
It's the happiest I've seen Shannon in months.
Ryan Lemon
Look at it.
Kevin
You got any OVW contracts on you? I think you need to extend some offers to these guys.
Matt Jones
Up next.
Ryan Lemon
Heather.
Matt Jones
Heather. Go ahead, Heather.
Ryan Lemon
I think we need to maybe get Kevin to come in the locker room and do a pre game speech to the guys. Cause they seem to like a little energy in the first hike.
Matt Jones
Yes, he is. He's amazing.
Ryan Lemon
I was wondering if y'all seen the. The postgame interview with Pope and Butler.
Matt Jones
Was it on television? If it was, I did not see it. No, I didn't see it.
Ryan Lemon
Well, that's what I figured. Pope made a comment that the guys was hanging on by strings, then said that Butler's arms were actually taped together.
Matt Jones
So it was.
Ryan Lemon
It was funny. And then she asked him about coaching there and he. He gave a really, really touching statement, of course. And it was a good interview.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I didn't get to hear it. I heard. Yeah, he. I mean, he did. He said that Annie then also added the stuff about. About Amari and the postgame. Heather, I appreciate the call. So, I mean, this is a. A wounded group. I mean, Butler barely hanging on. Williams hurt, Travis Perry hurt. Jackson out, Kerr out. I mean, like, it's. But that also makes it to where you got to say, listen, it's. It's awesome. They keep getting to this point and then we'll see what happens on Saturday. This is. I believe they don't miss Now Shannon and Kevin do not miss.
Kevin
They are fire with with one game down. You got to be proud of the bench. When we knew Robinson was out, someone had to step up collectively with the bench. Cover the scoring load at 25 points. Four threes. I mean, when you get two threes from Colin Chandler, a three from Brandon Garrison, Trent Noah hitting the big three, I mean, that went a long way in carrying the scoring load.
Matt Jones
UConn leads Oklahoma 4237. Oklahoma's gonna have three free throws after the break. Got fouled on a three. They're trying to make that get game close. Oregon's crushing Liberty, Michigan State and Bryant are still close. Xavier is down 9. Looks like Illinois will be who we play. Well, you know. Well, I don't know what's gonna happen in that game if we play Illinois. It's gonna be tough for us to guard their main guy, but they can also go ice cold.
Kevin
I want to hate him, but I saw our guy, Coach O as they started to warm up and he hit me with our. Our line again.
Matt Jones
So if you don't know coach, he.
Ryan Lemon
Said tonight he hit me again.
Kevin
It's twice in three days.
Matt Jones
They. They say something that the. What's the. What's the character succession. Logan Roy on succession says to his kids a lot. That's their greeting and they will scream it at each other across the floor.
Kevin
He shouted it from mid court. He calls me Drew Ski. And he said Drew Ski.
Matt Jones
And then they say that and we can't say it actually made me feel.
Kevin
I haven't seen him since the split. You know, I was very critical of that staff. And I've wondered where KSR is with Coacho because we've always liked him. And that went a long way hearing him say that to me, those two words.
Matt Jones
I was on ESPN Milwaukee doing an interview. He saw me. He walked up and hugged me in the middle of the interview. And I just stopped the interview and said I'd missed him and it was nice to see him.
Ryan Lemon
You guys always had a good relationship.
Matt Jones
Yes. Orlando and I, we. Orlando was if next to, you know, next to like Vince Merrow and Peavey. Probably the person. The next person that I was the closest to it. UK was probably.
Ryan Lemon
And I think, you know, it was strong enough it could survive the. The divorce that happened here.
Matt Jones
Just this time, I think. Oh, loves Cal. But he knew.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Kevin
I told him, I hope to see you Sunday, but on the inside, I don't want to see him Sunday.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, we may get him. We'll see who's up next?
Ryan Lemon
Dwayne.
Matt Jones
Dwayne, go, go ahead, Dwayne.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I'd like to speak to the.
Matt Jones
Commissioner of the Cornhole Associates. I guess, I guess it's me. Yes, go ahead. Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Great win by the Catch tonight.
Matt Jones
I was so stressed in the beginning when it was closed and then we pulled it out when the Sweet Mountain baby hit that three point, I thought that was the, I thought that was the change of the game. Susie hit that.
Ryan Lemon
We went on a run and, and I'm in Kentucky right now and I'm.
Matt Jones
Just looking at tickets and I think if anybody's here and wanting to go to the game, buy some tickets and let's get up there and let's get.
Ryan Lemon
This team to the sweet 16.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean I listen, we there, we need everybody here that we can get here and we'll, we'll know the time of the game probably in the next hour or so. I think the Oregon game is going to be the last game and it's going be a route. So we'll probably know. I would say we'll know as soon as the, the Yukon Oklahoma game is over. Very soon after they will, they will announce it, right?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. And like you said, the, they're going to stagger it because they try to. It's for TV.
Matt Jones
Well, the key is they, they want their two best games at 2:30 and 5:00 and they tend to, if history is any indication want Kentucky and Duke playing at that time. So I just have to assume we get one of them, they get the other one. I just, you would think that's the most likely scenario.
Ryan Lemon
And a Kentucky Illinois game is a little more attractive than a Kentucky Xavier.
Matt Jones
Game and a Yukon Florida game is very attractive as well. So I mean they have a chance to have three very attractive games on Sunday and I would guess one of them will be at noon, one of them will be at 2:30 and one of them will be at 5.
Ryan Lemon
We'll be one of those three.
Matt Jones
I think we'll be one of those three and we'll figure out which one it is. 859-280-2287 we're going to take a break, come back. This is one of the more entertaining and bizarre post game shows of all time. I said to Ryan of all the places he could have picked, he chose this. It ended up being nailed it.
Kevin
They were great hosts for the pregame show too.
Matt Jones
Ryan Lemon, my man. We'll take a break and be right back. It's a local toy dealers KSR Post game show. Welcome back. It is the local toy dealers. KSR postgame show. 859-280-2287. Text machine. 772-774-5254. One person writes. Matt, I would have thought the person that blew up about their seat was you. No, I never complain about a seat because I don't stay. So I can't be.
Kevin
My saw your seat. It looked pretty empty.
Matt Jones
I can't be mad if nobody. If I'd have a. They gave me a seat upstairs. But, like, I'm not gonna. The other thing is, like, we're pretty. I. I do believe this. I mean, if they're gonna give seven seats down low. If you're gonna give it to the seven people who are gonna be read or heard the most, it should be all seven us. But I understand that wouldn't be fair.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
At the set we had, Jack Pilgrim was down there. That's fine. He's the basketball beat reporter. So I'm good with it. I don't even care if they don't give me seat. We're getting into the games for free. Come on. Like, with that said, it is funny because people get mad now.
Kevin
This is the first time I've ever. I just.
Matt Jones
I couldn't see it before. I've seen it. I. I've seen a bunch of people over the years get mad. This was the worst one in terms of reaction. I did see one time a national media member lose it. Even worse than that because they weren't put on the front row.
Kevin
The only thing they'll complain about more than seats is if they're not giving free food.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Media members can make it difficult to like them. I totally understand why people would feel that way.
Ryan Lemon
Well, you know, we were all sitting down on the first row where we weren't supposed to be sitting. They came and asked us to leave.
Matt Jones
They came and asked all of us to leave. We all left. Mario just stayed.
Ryan Lemon
Mario just stayed there and got to sit there the whole game.
Matt Jones
He didn't get up. He stayed there the whole game.
Kevin
I went down there at halftime to talk to him, but I didn't want to blow his cover, so I was just very quick. I gave him a wink, like, don't move.
Matt Jones
Keep that seat. He was sitting on the opposite side exactly like where Leanne Pope was sitting.
Ryan Lemon
Exactly.
Matt Jones
On the UK side.
Ryan Lemon
We all got.
Matt Jones
I think literally Billy was the seats for, like, players, for, like, coaches, wives, and families. And Mario was sitting there.
Ryan Lemon
He said it was Detroit principal. I mean, president, the athletic director. Like, Detroit brass.
Matt Jones
Social studies teacher.
Kevin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Mario was sitting with the Troy administration.
Ryan Lemon
And he did not move. He had to pee really bad, but who cares? Hold it. You're a camp. If you get up, you're gonna lose your seat.
Matt Jones
And I watched the game at the St. Kate Arts Hotel, and I will tell you if you would like a little investigation as to where UK stain. They have a pizza a. You make your own pizza place in the lobby.
Ryan Lemon
They do.
Kevin
That's nice.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it is an art. There's, like, art galleries, like, all over the place, and there's an ice cream store inside.
Ryan Lemon
Wow. Well, let's just go crash it.
Matt Jones
That's. Why do you think I stayed there for the game?
Kevin
I got to keep my street going of Mexican food for every meal.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Four.
Kevin
Four in a row here.
Matt Jones
They're about to close this down, so we're gonna have to make this the final segment. Who's next? Casey. Casey. How are you, Casey? I'm pretty good.
Ryan Lemon
Matt and the crew, how are y'all doing tonight?
Matt Jones
Doing good. All right, I've gotta ask before I make my shout out tonight. And my comment. Have you all taught that dude how.
Ryan Lemon
To play cornhole tonight?
Matt Jones
I think we did. I think we did.
Ryan Lemon
He became a superstar. Cornhole.
Matt Jones
I think he did. That's what's.
Ryan Lemon
That's how you do it from Kentucky.
Matt Jones
That's what's up. But I want to give a shout out to Mark Pope and the Crudenaut. Getting the first NCAA win tonight. Getting.
Ryan Lemon
Getting that out of the way, under the rug. That's all it meant for me.
Matt Jones
And tonight, we're gonna make a run.
Ryan Lemon
Go, Cap.
Matt Jones
That's all I have to say. Go. All right. Appreciate the call. Yeah. I hope we do make a run, but we had to have this one. I was thinking to myself when it was 2524 or whatever, and I was like, all right. I sometimes go through the, well, what if we lose? And I was like, this will be miserable. I mean, I don't want to lose Sunday, but, like, you know, if it happens, I think I would blame it more on injuries than anything. But you can't lose Detroit. And thankfully, we did not.
Kevin
I think what hurt me even worse when it was 2524 is the little redhead I talked about and put on my Instagram story. Had a driving layup that cut it to one. And I'm like, this just has that feeling that we've seen too many times.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Jacob Polachek played point guard.
Ryan Lemon
Well, you know, last year, Jack Golke was just unconscious he was hitting him from everywhere. If they had gotten beat tonight, it would have been I think even worse because they weren't good. They weren't a good team.
Matt Jones
Well, that was. That was the reason I still wasn't worried about us losing yet is that I didn't really feel like they were good.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And we were just. I mean we missed shots. But what they didn't. You know I said this on the pregame. The recipe for an upset is to have a team who can make a ton of threes and they were not that team. And that's. That's the way it goes. Oklahoma has now taken the lead telling.
Kevin
Y'All they're into the dynasty.
Matt Jones
If Oklahoma that one in Baylor beaten Duke that was Sharpie Oklahoma if they won this would be. That'd be nine SEC teams that would make it to the second weekend.
Ryan Lemon
They're dangerous. You know we beat him within that last second shot but the Oklahoma's dangerous.
Matt Jones
Looks like Illinois pulling away from Xavier. So we're gonna play a rare road day in the NCAA tournament.
Ryan Lemon
Yes, it will be.
Matt Jones
Thank you. I can't remember how many times that's happened. When's that? When do you think the last time that's happened?
Ryan Lemon
You may have to go back to Boise because we've always had fans.
Matt Jones
Even in Boise we played Buffalo and David.
Kevin
It was kind of a neutral group.
Matt Jones
I don't think anybody had more. Trying to think we. When we played up here, when we played Marquette in Minneapolis we. I think they had more fans than us. When Bogan's got hurt note you think.
Ryan Lemon
That'S a good one because that was Wisconsin.
Matt Jones
You think there's just something about Wisconsin. Do we just not have any fans that live up here?
Kevin
Well also in addition to Illinois fans right in front of me and Ryan there was a group of Wisconsin fans wearing 38 and one eat at Kentucky. So there's a lot of Wisconsin fans just here to taunt Kentucky.
Matt Jones
I did see a bunch of Wisconsin fans here actually which I thought was kind of weird when there were a lot of Marquette people walking around town because they were playing at the same and then they.
Ryan Lemon
Marquette got beat so why not they can't jump jump on boardwagon.
Matt Jones
It'll be interesting. I would bet the cr. I would bet the tickets for that on. I bet they're gonna be something Sunday. I would think Sunday there's going to be. Let's go. Let's see what they are right now. Right now the get price is $220 right now.
Kevin
So we have to think Kentucky fans in Chicago. I feel like most people up here are from Chicago, so they are. They are carrying bbn.
Matt Jones
At least they did tonight to the Chicago people. All right, we. We got five on. Is that right? Five left? Yep. All right, let's go through them. Who's next?
Kevin
Alex.
Matt Jones
Alex. Go ahead, Alex.
Ryan Lemon
Hey, first time, long time.
Matt Jones
Who are. I was just calling. I found myself. The broadcast team brought it up a lot, but about Amari dunking the ball and if he had a back injury, I can kind of give him a pass on it. But every time he's in a layup situation, coming from a guy who one of his greatest athletic achievements is touching top of loop of the net, I'm like screaming dunk it. Every time. In the second half, the la. I got. I came back in the arena with about six minutes to go and I sat right behind. I took someone's seat, sat right behind Jack Givens And Jack Givens was screaming for Amari to dunk.
Ryan Lemon
Just dunk.
Matt Jones
I mean screaming for him to dunk. And then he did with like two and a half or three minutes to go. And I thought Jack was going to punch Tom Leach in the face. Yeah, he gave. He gave a fist that I think he nearly. In honor of. Rest in peace, George Foreman. Got a left hook right there too. But yes, I appreciate the call. Amari missed a lot of layups. We missed nine layups tonight.
Ryan Lemon
I heard him scream more than once. You know, just dunk it, big fella. Just go up and dunk it. He had that layup down there in the paint.
Matt Jones
How did you hear him? You were up in the rafters.
Ryan Lemon
Why? I got here early.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Then you listen.
Kevin
He was plugged in. I was worried. Earlier Mario threw a green great outlet like bounce pass to Lamont, hit him in stride and he missed a. A routine layup that just. The layups were not going in.
Matt Jones
Lamont, even before his injury, he just misses a lot of layups. I don't know why that is.
Kevin
Over five tonight. A lot of turnovers. Although I saw he had the highest plus minus on the team. I know that stat can be a.
Matt Jones
Little misleading because of defense.
Kevin
Yeah, of course. But he just. He wasn't finishing well.
Matt Jones
His defense against that kid, the, the. That point guard I thought was huge. That is a huge underrated play. Part of him. Cuz that was their. That's their best player. And we really didn't hear a lot from him today.
Ryan Lemon
He was a non factor because.
Matt Jones
Because of Lamont. Four more who's next?
Kevin
Kristen.
Matt Jones
Kristen. Go ahead, Kristen. Oh, hey. I've just been watching you all.
Ryan Lemon
I didn't know you had Instagram live.
Matt Jones
But I noticed Shannon playing. Playing Cornhole, and he's actually pretty hot. I didn't know that.
Kevin
Wow.
Matt Jones
Whoa. Whoa. I'm telling you, the KSR thirst level has just gone up. I mean, we've had. We've had two different people offer their wives. One to me, one to Drew.
Kevin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Now Shannon's hot. Mario had a woman grab his butt today. I mean, like, I don't know what's going on. Ryan, this is going to hit you, too.
Ryan Lemon
Well, you know, the picture with me, my belly hanging out, literally, I didn't get the same effect as you guys are getting.
Kevin
What in the world?
Matt Jones
Yes.
Kevin
Got hit with a Jenga board.
Matt Jones
There's a lot of hotties in there. That's very nice of you. Well, I will tell Shannon that you're. You're a fan. Yes.
Ryan Lemon
Let them know.
Matt Jones
All right. I appreciate the call. How about that? See, another thing you didn't expect to happen on the local toilet dealers. Ksr. I'm sorry.
Ryan Lemon
She didn't leave her digits or something for Shannon. She was very thirsty.
Matt Jones
Your woman just called you hot on here. A woman just called you hot. Wow. Oh, he's.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, don't feed.
Matt Jones
That's the first time that's ever happened. Oh, Billy's really mad about it. Billy said, don't feed his ego. All right, three more. Who's next?
Ryan Lemon
Matt.
Matt Jones
I do like the Billy Shannon rivalry. Matt. Go ahead, Matt.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Hey, Matt. Big win.
Kevin
Go, Cat.
Matt Jones
Two things first. I need to hear from Drew, the best Mexican he's had in Milwaukee.
Kevin
Actually, this place right here in 3rd Street Market. I can't see the sign right now, but if you're ever in Milwaukee, come to 3rd Street Market and get the tacos.
Matt Jones
Food in this. 3rd Street Market's pretty good.
Ryan Lemon
It is good.
Matt Jones
Lexington could use a place like this. We were talking about. This is probably what they envisioned with Greyline, but this is, like, right downtown next to the arena. And this is. This is probably what the place. What's it called? Lex Live. It's probably what they wish that was.
Kevin
In terms of Gray Line is what they wanted this to be.
Matt Jones
This is. Is like a really. This is. The food here is really good, and there's like 10 different things. So it's. It's. I. I recommend it if you come to town.
Kevin
Also, the casino in what, Illinois? Not. Not Wakanda, as I. Yeah, Wakanda. Good casino. Mexican, but go ahead.
Matt Jones
Wait a minute.
Kevin
You want me to dump that?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think.
Ryan Lemon
I. I don't know.
Matt Jones
Now we're gonna.
Ryan Lemon
Scotty just tried to block Wildcat all.
Kevin
The way to July.
Matt Jones
We're not going to say who it is because I don't want to say it, but someone associated with the team extended from the team, not a player or a coach. Told Drew, Drew said hopefully I was.
Kevin
With him before the game and.
Matt Jones
Hang on, hang on. Told Drew before the game, Drew said something like, you know, this will be the first of many. And the guy goes, yeah, we're going all the way to July.
Kevin
Well, he said something like, I. I enjoy your coverage of the team. And I said, we got six more games in the season. He goes, yep, all the way to July and hugged me and I went to our slogan, April.
Matt Jones
That's our slogan for the rest of the year.
Ryan Lemon
I've really tried to think why he would say that. Why would he say all the way to July? I thought there had to be a reason.
Matt Jones
I think he just messed up.
Kevin
I messed up, I think.
Matt Jones
But. But that's our.
Kevin
We've now adopted. I've been saying it all. All the way to July, Scotty. All the way to July.
Matt Jones
These kids drop this Jinga board on me. I'm going to throw them into the ocean. Will you get that thing away from me? All right, who. Who's next?
Kevin
We're a long way from the ocean. Two more.
Matt Jones
Todd is next.
Kevin
We're next to. We're next to Lake Canada.
Matt Jones
All right, fine.
Kevin
Like Lake America.
Matt Jones
I mean, it's like Michigan, isn't it?
Kevin
Well, I think Trump renamed it like America.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right. Go ahead, Todd. Todd. Go ahead, Todd. Or maybe he doesn't like me Yalls conversation kind of there. No. I was surprised that Butler didn't have a real good game tonight, but I was glad to see him out there. He didn't by no means stuff the stat sheet. I was supposed surprised it didn't have any points at all. And I wanted to tell you too that my nephew and his wife is there should be right there listening live. It's Landon and Laura Van Meter. So if you call out their name, they may be there. No. Yeah. Well, we. If I. That we don't have a speaker, so I don't think they can hear us. But they. I. Someone sent me, said to me they were here for the pregame. So we appreciate that. I appreciate the call. There were a lot. We don't have a speaker. So, like you have to. People can't hear us in here. Illinois is now up 17. So it looks like we're going to play Illinois with that Drew, I, I'm, I'm not worried about Illinois as a team as much as I am the fact it'll be a road game. But again they lost by 40 to Duke. They also I think beat Michigan State by 20. I'm telling you kids, if you do not. Well, stop with the Jenga.
Kevin
Matt's going to beat up a 14 year old. As we in the postgame show. You know, the matchup is what it is and we're banging.
Matt Jones
I've been hit by these bricks 10 times.
Kevin
I really have not. It's. It's going to be weird because we will be outnumbered and that's something that we pride ourselves on. Having a home crowd in neutral sites. But there is going to be more orange on Sunday. One less kid playing.
Matt Jones
Jingo, that's the fastest you moved in years. Why they hit me with those stupid things. At least try to keep it to.
Ryan Lemon
These are like not little bitty jingle. They're like big.
Matt Jones
Yeah. And they just keep falling on me.
Ryan Lemon
They're that close to you.
Kevin
Oh yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Cuz Ryan put us in the drop zone of every.
Kevin
Matt's not exaggerating. I got hit in the back with the whole stack just a second ago.
Matt Jones
One more. Who's next?
Ryan Lemon
Syndicate.
Matt Jones
Syndicate. Go ahead, syndicate. Hey guys, you sound like you guys are having a blast down there. And it is on fire here in Lexington. I haven't seen this type of much excitement in the bars in especially a few years. And it's just great to see all this excitement back in the city. It's a blessing to have it. And I'm asking one question for tomorrow, for this Caliperi Patino game, right? Who. Who's gonna pull it off? Who do you guys think is gonna pull it off tomorrow? Because I think this is a huge excitement as well. Before we play on Sunday, wrapping it up for tomorrow. Who you guys are rooting for for tomorrow? I mean. Well, I, I'm rooting for Rick. I don't know. I mean St. John's is better but like Arkansas's got great athletes and that I think that's a we. You know, Patino said they will have not played a team nearly as athletic as Arkansas and that is probably true. So I don't know. Drew. Yeah.
Kevin
Arkansas hit another level in the last month and if they have a game for From Ado, who's been kind of quiet all year, if he plays anything like he did last night. I mean, I think they got a good shot to take down the number two seed.
Matt Jones
Yeah, we will see. But I'm definitely rooting for Rick. Well, what a postgame show it was.
Ryan Lemon
Of all the postgame shows we've done.
Matt Jones
I think it was a good. I think people liked it.
Ryan Lemon
We've done some crazy things. We've heard some crazy things, we've seen some crazy things. This may have topped them all.
Matt Jones
Yeah, this reminds me trying to think of what one was like this. It's been a while. But it also shows you can't do this if you lose. If you lose. This is a sad, somber, like, what's happened to Kentucky basketball. Instead, we're playing cornhole. Ryan is threatening kids. It is, it's. It's. It's something else.
Ryan Lemon
The, the. The one we did in Cleveland where Ash a barefoot Ashley.
Matt Jones
That's true.
Ryan Lemon
Jumped on the table.
Matt Jones
You know what? That's true. Ash Ashley Judd taking her shoes off barefoot, jumping on the table and leading a cats in the middle of that hotel. Tell.
Ryan Lemon
That one was up there.
Matt Jones
Memories. That one. That was. That was awesome. That was 2015, right? Is it right? Right. That was a lot of fun. Well, thank you folks very much for listening. I guess the next time you'll hear from us is two hours and a half before whatever time we play on Sunday, which we will not know probably for another 45 minutes or so. So I guess I will see you then. Thank you all very much for listening. Thanks to the folks here at 3rd Street Market for, for, for letting us in here. Thanks to Kevin the. The cornhole player and thank you for nothing to these kids who keep dropping these jengas on me. This has been the local Toyota dealers, KSR post game show all the way to July. Host: Matt Jones and Ryan Lemon
Location: Milwaukee
Matt Jones initiated the postgame discussion with an enthusiastic announcement of Kentucky's (UK) significant achievement:
"[02:01] Matt Jones: It is the local Toyota dealers. KSR post game show the Cats get their first NCAA tournament first round win, only their second NCAA tournament win since 2019 with a big victory this evening against Troy to move to the second round of the tournament second 79. 59."
The crew celebrated Mark Pope's first-ever NCAA tournament coaching victory at his alma mater, highlighting the emotional and symbolic importance of this win for both Pope and the passionate UK fanbase.
Ryan Lemon echoed the sentiments, acknowledging Pope's emotional response:
"[02:45] Ryan Lemon: Well, you said he thought he kind of choked up even a little bit when he was talking about it. Big, big night for him to get his first coaching win in the NCAA tournament at his alma mater, where it means so much to this fan base."
The discussion delved into the dynamics of the game, emphasizing the strategic runs that secured the victory.
Matt Jones outlined the pivotal moments:
"[03:13] Matt Jones: ...Cats started out, it actually went, if I may, if I do say so myself, exactly like I said it would on the show. Stayed close at the beginning. Yep, got it to eight at halftime. We kept the lead, kind of extend it back, extend it back. Ended up winning by 20. Really. It was a game, Ryan, that I think were two big runs."
Ryan Lemon highlighted standout performances:
"[04:05] Ryan Lemon: And I don't know if DraftKings had it that that room is going to be sparked by Colin Chandler and Brandon Garrison. They had like every point in that one run. Midway through the second half, Chandler comes off just bombing, bombing. And you could tell when he hit that first one, he couldn't wait to shoot the second one."
Amari's Back Injury: The crew addressed the impact of Amari's injury on his performance, noting missed layups and reduced offensive presence.
"[05:07] Matt Jones: Now we found out after the game that he had a back injury."
"[05:16] Ryan Lemon: ...he did nothing to really hurt us tonight. That's why you have Butler on the court."
Colin Chandler's Offensive Surge:
"[06:12] Ryan Lemon: He's right. When they needed a bucket away went and got the bucket. He carried him a lot in the first half. Him and Andrew Carr kind of carried him in the first half. Second half, like I said, the run was Chandler and Hall, they. Brandon Garrison, who he had another three."
Defensive Strategies and Opponent's Weaknesses:
"[08:29] Ryan Lemon: Their best three point shooter was their big guy, their six, eight guy that they had out there. So I know just. Just to me, kind of a relief. You get that first win."
A memorable segment involved an impromptu cornhole lesson with a local named Kevin Wedgeworth. The hosts engaged humorously with Kevin, teaching him the correct way to play cornhole while integrating playful banter and lighthearted moments.
Matt Jones initiated the interaction:
"[09:50] Matt Jones: ...I'm on the radio. I need you on here for just a second. No cussing, Okay?"
Explaining Cornhole Rules:
"[10:54] Matt Jones: You have to be on the same side and throw it to that side. Kevin, wait a minute. Do you want to. This is a huge audience listening. Do you want to tell them anything about you?"
Kevin's Enthusiastic Response:
"[11:33] Kevin: So you. My name is Kevin Wedgeworth. I am a hard, motivating, independent, driven black man that is trying to put this ball inside of this hole. It's a bag."

Bracket Analysis:
"[20:28] Ryan Lemon: That's crazy. Just to get six out of 16. They play Michigan."
SEC Teams' Performance:
"[19:00] Matt Jones: I think the SEC is going to finish eight and six probably if Oklahoma Loses on the, on the first two to two days of games. In my opinion. The SEC had seven really good teams and then Arkansas became the eighth at the end of the year."
The hosts forecasted which SEC teams would advance, highlighting Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M as key contenders.
In a somber moment, the hosts paid respects to Vernon Hatton, a UK basketball legend who recently passed away.
Ryan Lemon shared personal memories:

This tribute underscored the deep-rooted history and community ties within UK basketball.
Throughout the show, the hosts interacted with listeners, responding to calls and integrating humor and personal anecdotes. Notably, the cornhole story with Kevin became a recurring humorous thread, with listeners enjoying the lighthearted deviation from strict game analysis.
Kevin's Cornhole Journey:
"[37:43] Matt Jones: ...now I just tweeted out the picture. Mario, do you have a video of Mario, do you have a video of his pre shot routine?"
Humorous Banter:
