It is week 11 of NFL Cover Zero. Matt Jones and Drew Franklin on the precipice of our trip this weekend to Buffalo for Buffalo and Tampa Bay. We are taking off from Kentucky on what will be certainly a beautiful drive up through Akron, Cleveland, Erie, Pennsylvania. Some people call it America's most beautiful highway to Buffalo. Drew, are you excited for the first time NFL Cover Zero goes on the road?
Billy Rutledge
I am very excited. Always enjoy going on road trips with you guys anyway. But a Bills game has been high on my sports bucket list for a long time. I even said that on the show. You did, too, before we even knew this was a possibility earlier in the season. So I am fired up to get out there. I'm a big tailgater. I want to see Mafia and in full speed. I'm looking forward to being a part of it.
Michael F. Florio
Whether. Doesn't look like it's going to be too bad. I mean, we wondered about that going through. Obviously, the game's going to be fun. Two great teams. Billy gets to see his Tampa Bay Bucks. I get to see my football crush, Josh Allen. But more importantly, have you ever made that drive before between Akron, Cleveland, Erie, Buffalo?
Billy Rutledge
You and I have been to Buffalo, but I think we were coming from a completely different area.
Michael F. Florio
So, no, I haven't done. This is one of the few major roads in America I've never been on. I've been up to Cleveland, but Cleveland to Buffalo, you go along the lake.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
You get the lake effect snow. You get Lake Erie.
Billy Rutledge
Canada's right there.
Michael F. Florio
Canada, you can, like, you. You can spit, although I think that'd be rude, but you could spit and it would go into Canada. I would like to take you all to Canada, but not one, but two of you do not have a passport, which is crazy to me.
Laquan Jones
Yeah, that's my bad.
Michael F. Florio
It's your bad. I mean, you realize. You don't realize how close we are to Canada there. And we're not going to get to go. I might go and leave you.
Billy Rutledge
We might go get poutine and come back.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah, we might go and leave you.
Laquan Jones
Well, I know you've had issues at the border between Canada.
Michael F. Florio
I have. I've been stopped at the Canadian border twice, but I feel like third time's a character.
Billy Rutledge
I'm banned from a stadium in Canada.
Michael F. Florio
That's true. Also a problem. But we can leave you in Buffalo and then go cross Niagara Falls to Toronto. But I am looking forward to it. We're talking about maybe staying Saturday night. Erie, Pennsylvania, which is. People say what happens in Erie is not talked about. Not because it's scandalous, because no one wants to, but. But it should be fun. And we have press. It's the first time we've had NFL press credentials. How about that?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, we've. We've had fun covering a lot of sporting events, but I've never been able to go to an NFL game. I guess we'll probably jump right in, do the interviewing. Like we're just one of the regular beat reporters around there. I'll do a little working from the press box. Whatever. Whatever we're allowed to do.
Michael F. Florio
I want Tony Romo game or Tom Brady. Do I get to see one of those guys?
Laquan Jones
I'll look it up.
Michael F. Florio
Now, do you know who the announcers are?
Billy Rutledge
We'll look that up.
Michael F. Florio
Be funny if our friend Ian Eagle was there. I will say this. They approve your credentials a lot faster when you're with the NFL. Usually if I ask for credentials to an event like this, they call me. Go. Who are you? Why do you want to come here? Kentucky's not playing right this time. 30 seconds. You're in.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah. Got that approval, like, almost instantly. They were very precise about their headshots. That took a little. I even had to, like, redo it. So I. They want to make sure you're looking good on that pass.
Michael F. Florio
Headshot. Do not face to the left. I'm like. But that's my best side. Look, see, watch. Look at me right now on the video. Now go see why couldn't. I wanted to. You see why I wanted to do that.
Billy Rutledge
Should be your credential.
Michael F. Florio
Just me. Just me moving. Well, they didn't let me do that. But we're. Look, we're looking forward to the trip.
Laquan Jones
And Eagle.
Michael F. Florio
And Eagle. Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
Let's not tell them. Let's just walk up behind him.
Michael F. Florio
So I'm going to be there.
Laquan Jones
And jj.
Michael F. Florio
Well, I don't know jj, but Iron's my buddy. Maybe we can go out Saturday night with.
Billy Rutledge
I. Yeah, he's going to talk about credential stuff. Why are you all here? He. That he's going to hit us at. What the hell are you all doing?
Michael F. Florio
Dude, that would. That would be really funny if we did not. The problem is we probably can't get in the booth. But if we didn't even tell him. Slid up and just walked behind him and gave him like a noogie or.
Billy Rutledge
A Collinsworth slide right in a chair up next to him.
Michael F. Florio
That would be the. What are you doing here?
Billy Rutledge
He could be listening to prepare for the big NFL weekend.
Michael F. Florio
Well, I am. We'll see you on Sunday for Buffalo and Tampa. If you're in Buffalo, come say hi to us. I can't tell you where. Billy, do you have a bar yet for us to do the show?
Laquan Jones
Yes, after the game.
Michael F. Florio
Don't say it yet.
Laquan Jones
Okay.
Michael F. Florio
Because we don't know for sure that's the place. You don't want everybody going there.
Laquan Jones
I've been making calls, though, so we will be ready.
Michael F. Florio
What do you say to the people when you come? There's a mainstream NFL podcast that would like to be in your building.
Laquan Jones
I was dropping the NFL like it was my job.
Michael F. Florio
Like, how? What do you say?
Laquan Jones
Hey, this is Billy Rutledge. I'm with iheartradio and the NFL and we're looking to collab.
Michael F. Florio
You felt. You felt confident enough to say you were with the NFL?
Laquan Jones
Yeah, I mean.
Billy Rutledge
I mean, I'm looking at the logo right behind him on MTV Trail.
Michael F. Florio
That feels very confident to say you are with the NFL. I mean, that would be only, like, if there was an NFL organizational chart. I think it's fairly certain you're at the very bottom.
Laquan Jones
But on the list.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, you're not. Not with the NFL.
Michael F. Florio
But I wouldn't say you're with the NFL either. I think that's a stretch. Maybe I'm doing something for the NFL.
Laquan Jones
Doesn't have the same ring to it.
Billy Rutledge
I. I put NFL Network in my Instagram biofit network.
Michael F. Florio
Come on.
Billy Rutledge
I don't have a bio. I just tag every account. Ksr, ks, bar, all the stuff we do. And I just added NFL Network to the bottom.
Laquan Jones
Sneaking that in.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. Well, today I spoke at the university here in KE and they asked me to do my bio, and I was like, kentucky sports radio, ESPN radio, blah, blah. And then the professor goes, how about the NFL? And I was like, I don't know if I feel comfortable. That'd be like me just adding Netflix because I was on it once.
Laquan Jones
Oh, good call. Documentary star.
Michael F. Florio
Well, all right. So you say I'm with the. Not with. I'm from the NFL.
Laquan Jones
No, I'm with the NFL. And we're looking to collab with a local sports bar. We'll be able to give you some free promotion on a national show.
Billy Rutledge
Billy, Roger, Phil.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. All right. Well, hopefully we'll have some success. We're looking forward to it. And Erie, if you're in Erie, if you have a suggestion of what we can do in Erie. 772-77-4-5254. The text machine let us know where do you eat in Erie, you know, what is there to do?
Billy Rutledge
Where's the party?
Michael F. Florio
Where is the party in Erie?
Billy Rutledge
We've had many random nights in Pennsylvania towns that aren't Pittsburgh or Philly. We've had a good time.
Michael F. Florio
I've never been. We've never been up there like that little corner.
Billy Rutledge
But that state never lets us down when we pop in their random towns.
Michael F. Florio
That's true. All right, this is our midweek show, so we're going to try to get the news. Billy has come up with what he believes are the top 10 NFL stories this week. These are in no particular order. Right. This is not like in order of how important you think.
Laquan Jones
Correct.
Michael F. Florio
So these are just randomly random NFL stories. Billy, I'm going to let you go and we're going to do some commentary on. Let's go.
Laquan Jones
Yeah. The first one is the Giants decided to fire head coach Brian Dabel. They kept their GM, but Brian is out after a 20, 40 and one record as head coach. He was coach of the year his first season in 2022. But with Jackson Dark and another poor start to the season, Brian Dable is out in New York.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. Not a shock. I mean, I think he probably. He probably got fired the moment Jackson Dark got that concussion. Right. Because, I mean, the only reason you would have kept Day ball is the idea because, you know, he helped develop Josh Allen in Buffalo is that you go, okay, well, maybe he can do it with Jack Dart. Then once he's out with the concussion, there's probably not a lot of reason to rush Jackson Dart back. So you say, why am I doing this with Day Paul? Right.
Billy Rutledge
And it seemed like they were heading for this in the beginning of the year with Russell Wilson just chucking it out of the stadium every time he got a chance. But then the. The rookie combo of Dart and Scatter Boo brought some swag. They got a few unexpected wins, got some life in that fan base. But then that with those two out, they've gone right back to dead and just. They needed to make the change.
Michael F. Florio
The Bears knocked them out, too. I mean, the Bears were. They're up two scores against the Bears. They blow the game, have a chance at the end. Russell Wilson looks like Drew out there playing quarterback at the end. It is odd to me, though, they kept the gm and maybe it's because of Hard Knocks. I sort of associate those two at the hip, you know, and the fact that they kept one and not the other. And I would assume that means they're keeping Joe Shane during the off season. Like there would be no reason not to fire him now if you're going to keep him at the end of the year.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah. And it shows how close it was and people thought might have happened because every story I read, it's like very intentional in the headline, you know, coach fired, kept gm. They were, they make, they're making that point because a lot of people assume that they both would go about the same time.
Michael F. Florio
Do you think they said to the gm? Yeah. I mean, was it, I don't know, was it like you have to fire him or else you're gone? I mean, I don't, I never understand who makes these decisions. Like in theory it should be the gm, but if you also might lose your job, I guess it's the president, right?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah. Or the owner right over your shoulder that doesn't like what the GM's doing.
Michael F. Florio
He seems very involved from Hard Knocks Mara. Like he was in the, he's in the draft room and stuff, so.
Billy Rutledge
But they had an incredible draft. I think that's probably why the GM stayed. I mean they got Abdul Carter at 3 or whatever and then you scatter.
Laquan Jones
Boo.
Billy Rutledge
Looks like he panned out.
Michael F. Florio
And then darts and dart.
Billy Rutledge
Dart was a gamble. You know, everybody was talking Shador in that spot. So I guess with the gm you're like tough to fire him after the draft.
Michael F. Florio
He had really good point. He did have a really good draft. If you were the owner of a team, would you be involved? Like let's say Drew Franklin gets to own the Titans. How much are you involved in the day to day decisions?
Billy Rutledge
I would want to for a little bit, but I would also recognize like quickly if I'm not good at it, I would get out of the way. There's a lot of owners that can't look in the mirror and realize that they're, you know, doing too much, not capable of it and they just mess things up. I would be in the room for a few days, few weeks and if I realize I'm in over my head, like, all right, I'm getting out of the way. I'll be in my suite watching you all bring me a good team.
Michael F. Florio
See, I worry I'd be really involved.
Billy Rutledge
You would be very involved.
Michael F. Florio
Like the her say I would be very involved. You don't know that well.
Billy Rutledge
We watch you see people at our restaurant on live radio. So we know you like to be very involved.
Michael F. Florio
You know what, I knew you were going to say that. I knew you were going to be a jerk and I knew you were going to say that but you're right. I do do that. Um, yeah, I don't know. Because I would definitely want to know, okay, why are you doing this? But I would probably let them make the decision. So I don't think I would be Jerry Jones. But I also would do something right. Like, what was the point of buying the team unless I can?
Billy Rutledge
I would want to be liked by my fans. And there are a lot of owners whose fans do not like them because their hands are too involved. Team's not good.
Michael F. Florio
Well, how do they think you're cheating? What would you do to be liked?
Billy Rutledge
Stay out of the way when things.
Michael F. Florio
Aren'T going well, then when they're bad, they're going to blame you anyway. Like, you're going to get. It's. It's like, again, you use example, the restaurant. If somebody comes to the restaurant and has a bad meal, they blame me even though I didn't cook it. So shouldn't I try to make sure as much as I can, it's cooked well?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, I guess. Owning the team, though, if I don't know what I'm doing, I'm just removing myself and then blaming everyone. I'm like, I'm in my suite having fun with my friends.
Michael F. Florio
I hope we have a stoner.
Billy Rutledge
That's probably what I would do. Okay, now you asked me the question. Yeah, that's probably what I would do. I would not want to be Jerry with my hand on everything.
Michael F. Florio
It's interesting. So the owner, like the Bears owner, is an old lady. McClusky, McCluskey, McCluskey, McClusKey. Anyway, she's beloved. She's, like, in her 80s, and I think people know she's not. She didn't select Caleb Williams, and the Bears haven't been particularly good. So maybe that's what you want to be. You need to be the little old lady in her pearls.
Billy Rutledge
I will happily be a little old lady. Now, if we have the number one pick or something. Hey, I'm getting in there, and I'm.
Michael F. Florio
So you are going to be.
Billy Rutledge
I'm listening. But if I have a quarterback I love or something, I'm going to have a little influence. I would not override everyone, but I would be in the room, like, hey.
Michael F. Florio
Okay, so that's the question. All right, so it's Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels, and you're the Bears, and you own the Bears, and you've seen both these guys play, and they say, I want to pick Jaden Daniels. But you really believe Caleb Williams is better. Like, you really believe it. What Are you doing?
Billy Rutledge
This is easy. I look at him, I say, look, I really like Caleb Williams. I'd love to see him in my uniform. But I hired you all to make these decisions. If you go the other way, that's fine. But you will be quick to the unemployment office if it doesn't work out.
Michael F. Florio
How you going quick to the unemployment.
Billy Rutledge
Office like I'm letting you do it, but just know that I have this in mind. But it's all on you. And if it works, I'm putting the credit on you.
Michael F. Florio
Okay. In that case, you could have made a case for both of them. What if it was somebody like Anthony Richardson that you knew you and I knew when he was in Florida, he was a bust. And they come to you and say, we're picking Anthony Richardson? Are you vetoing it?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, I think I'd have to.
Michael F. Florio
I think I'd have to.
Billy Rutledge
Someone that I truly believe that will. They will not work out. I couldn't, you know, with my own money, let my GM go do it. But if it's closer, I tie goes the gm. But I'm putting all the credit either one way or the other on them.
Michael F. Florio
Okay. Yeah, I think I would be very involved, but I wouldn't. I would not pick the seventh round pick.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, I'm not out there watching the lineman, not going to Mobile. But if we have the number one pick and there's like, some. Because that's your franchise, that's your marketing.
Michael F. Florio
That'S your whole thing.
Billy Rutledge
Be a little more active in that.
Laquan Jones
We've seen Jim Irsay's daughter really be involved. She's wearing a headset on the sideline.
Michael F. Florio
I don't know why that bothers people, because I actually think as long as she's on the sideline and she's not communicating, she's just listening. What is wrong with wanting to know what's happening? Again, to use the restaurant example, that would be like me sitting in the back and watching the cooks. Shouldn't I want to know how my restaurant is run, how my coaches do their jobs? Is that wrong?
Laquan Jones
No, I think it's a great idea. I just think the narrative would be different if they were.
Michael F. Florio
She's gotten a lot of criticism for that.
Laquan Jones
Some, yeah.
Michael F. Florio
And I don't think that's fair. I think she. I think she should do that.
Billy Rutledge
She seems to be staying out of the way and just listening. Like, even you see her, she's off by herself. She's got a little notepad. You know, she's writing stuff down. She also did Something what I would do when I was talking about me being an owner when they were in Berlin, did you see she went to the bar full of Colts fans and picked up the tab?
Michael F. Florio
Just strolled in there.
Billy Rutledge
That's the kind of stuff I'd be doing.
Michael F. Florio
That's. As an owner. You come in and you go, okay, I got this for everybody.
Billy Rutledge
They're loving her, right? Players, fans. Of course, team being eight and two helps, but, you know, this is their first season doing all this, and they're loving her.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah, I think you do a lot of that stuff because. Because if you're that rich, you know, one $5,000 bar tab.
Billy Rutledge
I went to the Titans, played the Chiefs in the playoffs, and I made the trip. We weren't supposed to be in the game at all, so I had to go. And we had a Titans party, and the owner came in. She didn't bother around, but it was like everybody celebrated and she was going around meeting people, so she didn't buy anything, though. I don't remember her buying around.
Michael F. Florio
I didn't see my. I didn't have.
Billy Rutledge
But just. Just being in there, like, you're the road team, you're. You're the away team. You're outnumbered. It's like we're all in the same spot. And then ownership and the GM just roll in and start hanging out. That's pretty neat. I think I would do a lot of that if that were in their shoes.
Michael F. Florio
Well, sorry to Brian Day Ball. He'll find an OC job. Somebody will. Somebody will hire him. Like, he's. He's had enough success at it. He'll.
Laquan Jones
He'll get well. There's rumors that the Bills might bring him back since they've been stagnant on offense and would make sense.
Michael F. Florio
He obviously has a good relationship with Josh Alle, so, you know, it's kind of like in oh, Brother, Where Art Thou? When he sees the. What's the guy's name that robs banks? Baby Face. He says, I don't think that's the last we've seen of old Baby Face Nelson.
Billy Rutledge
It's funny you bring that up. I might be watching that movie tonight.
Michael F. Florio
It's like, tonight, an excellent movie.
Billy Rutledge
I have that.
Michael F. Florio
I now have that in my top five of movies I really do like. In terms of rewatchable, I may have seen. If you're saying what movies? Matt Jones, and no one's saying this, but if they were, what are the five movies you've watched the most? Caddyshack is number one. Oh, brother. Where Art Thou might be number two. It's that or the Godfather.
Billy Rutledge
I'm married into an O Brother family. Anytime they're together, it's like, well, let's watch O Brothers. So that's become like a tradition. Even though I loved it when it first came out. Now I've seen it so many more times in the past few years.
Michael F. Florio
Was it big when it first. I don't remember. I think it's one. It's like office space. Another office space bombed when it came out and then got. It's huge. Like everybody knows office space now, but I don't think anybody watched it when it came out.
Billy Rutledge
I don't remember it being that big when it was out. I just remember catching with Clooney and the music and bluegrass kind of type stuff. Liking it. But yeah, it's one of the more rewatchable movies for sure. I'm not kidding. But I'm probably going to watch it tonight. We have dialed up.
Michael F. Florio
All right, what's next?
Laquan Jones
Former Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. brown made some interesting comments over the weekend now with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was on a twitch stream playing Madden.
Michael F. Florio
Everybody's on twitch streams and they all say, does anyone ever say anything intellectual on a Twitch stream? It feels like every time the story starts, he was on a twitch stream. Then you get something that makes people mad.
Billy Rutledge
Do we need to be twitching, Mario? Should we be twitch streaming this?
Michael F. Florio
You act like I don't.
Laquan Jones
You act like Mario and I haven't talked about this already. We'll be doing that next summer.
Michael F. Florio
All right, go ahead.
Laquan Jones
Yeah, so he said in reference to the Eagles offense, it's a bleep show. I'm struggling. If you got me on fantasy, get rid of me. And then when reporters asked him about it today, he doubled down. And it said, it's not just solely about my situation. I want to win, too. I think if we're really focused on winning and doing our job, we can't just keep slapping a band aid over the defense doing their job and getting us out of trouble. At what point are we going to pick up the slack as an offense?
Michael F. Florio
Now, you would hear those quotes and you would think they're awful, but they're seven and two, right? So is he mad that he really thinks the offense is bad or is he mad that he's not getting the ball?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, there was. They had a couple of weeks, but that's since been fixed.
Michael F. Florio
They didn't score a lot to be fair against Green Bay, but they were.
Billy Rutledge
The Green Bay game wasn't as good. I don't know. Just. I like AJ Arthur Juan is what I call him, but he's got to be the NFL Arthur 1 Arthur 1 Arthur Juan Brown. He has to be the NFL's leading diva right now. And I say that with love. I feel like we've had six of these stories this season of him. Little comments here and there.
Michael F. Florio
What would do you think if they were 5 and 4 but he had his yards up? Do you think he would complain?
Billy Rutledge
Probably not. He says he wants to be a part of winning.
Michael F. Florio
But they're winning.
Billy Rutledge
I know. J. He says he wants the conversation to be winning. It's like, well, you're the one talking. Jalen Hurts said we have to stop shining light on all these stories.
Michael F. Florio
Pretty much like, well, I mean, they correct me if I'm wrong. They won the super bowl last year.
Laquan Jones
Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
Defending champs.
Michael F. Florio
They are currently tied for first in the NFC this year, Correct?
Billy Rutledge
Yep.
Michael F. Florio
What does he want?
Billy Rutledge
The ball. Because he's a wide receiver.
Laquan Jones
Yeah. He took a backseat to Saquon when saquon ran for 2,000 yards last year. So he thought this year was going to be his big year and just hasn't happened.
Michael F. Florio
So he was on a Twitch stream. What were they streaming?
Laquan Jones
Madden. They were playing Madden.
Michael F. Florio
Who's they? Who's he playing?
Laquan Jones
Whoever. The Twitch streamer that is hosting the stream.
Michael F. Florio
So you're telling me that like just some kids playing Madden.
Laquan Jones
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
And then all of a sudden A.J. brown plays.
Laquan Jones
They're playing with A.J. yeah. And he's on the mic talking to.
Michael F. Florio
Them and he's streaming it?
Laquan Jones
I'm not sure. I don't think he is. I don't think he's the one hosting the stream. I think it was another person.
Michael F. Florio
So did they know each other before?
Laquan Jones
Don't know that either.
Billy Rutledge
It does seem most news comes from all the players having their own podcast or streaming a game. It's, you know, they say nothing to the media now and then they just go home and turn on the computer and say whatever they want.
Michael F. Florio
But why? What I don't understand is why don't they advertise that? Because I felt like if people knew that AJ Brown was playing like a 19 year old kid from South Korea, there would be people that would watch it, wouldn't they?
Billy Rutledge
I would probably watch it.
Michael F. Florio
Or do they advertise it and I just don't get to see it because I'm not watching those channels.
Laquan Jones
Yeah, I'm not sure. They probably would make some money, but they probably are just trying to relax a Little bit.
Michael F. Florio
Then why do they stream it?
Laquan Jones
They're not streaming. It's the person they're playing with.
Michael F. Florio
So why didn't they. Why don't they say, turn it off, kid? So yeah, you're telling me this was a random kid stream that somebody happened to be watching?
Laquan Jones
Well, probably a lot of people were watching because AJ was playing with.
Michael F. Florio
But how did they know AJ was playing?
Laquan Jones
Well, word gets around, right? You send a tweet out, AJ's on the stream, he's playing with us.
Michael F. Florio
Word gets around but didn't get to me.
Laquan Jones
Are you on the TikTok?
Michael F. Florio
I like how you said that. The TikTok I am, but it didn't come into my feed. AJ streaming here.
Billy Rutledge
Looks like he was playing with someone. Janky Rondo.
Michael F. Florio
Oh, I like Janky Rondo.
Billy Rutledge
I don't follow him enough. That's why we missed this.
Michael F. Florio
Is Janky Rondo famous?
Billy Rutledge
Looks like he does some.
Michael F. Florio
So he. He plays against famous people. Oh, Janky Rondo. That sounds like a nickname people had for people in Middlesbrough. Don't go. Don't get your car fixed. Don't. Janky Rondo's house.
Billy Rutledge
What a world, though. You're just a guy playing a video game. You bought a gamestop. But on the other end, you know, Pro Bowlers leaking news that goes all over the NFL.
Michael F. Florio
You never know when you watch Janky Rondo what he's gonna do.

I just want to remind everyone how.
Michael F. Florio
Good Rasheed Rice was last season. In his three healthy games, he was the widers receiver. Two in fantasy.
Billy Rutledge
I think Rasheed Rice just goes off this week. The Chiefs come on. A flip pass to Rice near side.
Michael F. Florio
Touchdown.
Laquan Jones
Ramandre Stevenson is my sleeper this week. This is a matchup where I think I can slide in Stevenson in my flex position and he could deliver double digit points this week.
Michael F. Florio
Drake takes the snap, hands it off for Madre. Running it right and running into the end zone. Touchdown.
Marcus Grant

Michael F. Florio
What's next?
Laquan Jones
Matthew Stafford is in his 17th season in the NFL.
Michael F. Florio
Crazy.
Laquan Jones
He's won a Super bowl and he's the favorite to win the MVP right now at plus 2, 260 odds. But the stat is that he just reached.500 for a winning percentage of his career. After 231 starts, he is now 115. 115 and 1.
Michael F. Florio
That's amazing because didn't he start out his first year he was like one in 15, right?
Laquan Jones
The Lions were bad.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah, Well, I think his first year, they were literally maybe 1 in 15. So he probably had a big hole. Speaking of guy, doesn't his wife. Doesn't she stream?
Laquan Jones
She's a podcaster.
Michael F. Florio
What does she. She does like a Christian thing, right?
Laquan Jones
I'm not sure, but she's made news talking in the past.
Michael F. Florio
It was something like. She's like, everybody drink milk or something like that, isn't she?
Billy Rutledge
No, it's Jim Harbaugh.
Michael F. Florio
Okay.
Billy Rutledge
She had a beef with somebody. It was another player.
Laquan Jones
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know.
Michael F. Florio
A couple years ago she had a beef.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, there was some podcast beef.
Michael F. Florio
I'm so old. I remember when the picture of them dating went viral when he was in college.
Billy Rutledge
Georgia. Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
Look who. Matthew Stafford dates this sorority and now she's like, milk podcasting.
Laquan Jones
Where are you getting the milk stuff?
Michael F. Florio
Is it not milk?
Billy Rutledge
It's on Jackie Rondo. That's where we got to see it. I love the stat, though, that, you know, this long career. Got a Super bowl ring. My.
Michael F. Florio
Could be MVP. He's a Hall of Famer. Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
Just got to 500.
Michael F. Florio
Has he. Has he ever won the MVP before?
Laquan Jones
I don't think so.
Michael F. Florio
I don't think he has.
Billy Rutledge
So.
Michael F. Florio
I mean, there might be kind of a lifetime achievement award to this a little bit.
Billy Rutledge
And as his career winds down. I know they're good, but he's got to be careful to get above 500 and stay there. You can't retire under 500 if you're Matthew.
Michael F. Florio
Do you think his career is winding down? I mean, these guys play forever now, right?
Billy Rutledge
He's got to be getting close to 40. But then again, Flacco and Rogers are still out there.
Michael F. Florio
Do you that trade between them and Detroit? Yeah, that's one of the very few Trades of high profile people. That kind of worked out for everybody, didn't it?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
Both quarterbacks, right?
Billy Rutledge
Well, Stafford was always good. He was just on a bad Lions team. So he finally got somewhere.
Michael F. Florio
He goes and wins the Super Bowl.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah. But then Jared Goff and the Lions, soon as he gets there, they're on the uptick and, you know, a contender this year. So it is one of the rare where it worked out both ways.
Laquan Jones
Kelly made news in 2024 when she revealed that she dated Matthew Stafford's backup quarterback at Georgia to make him jealous.
Billy Rutledge
I knew she was this big story.
Michael F. Florio
I did not hear that. Oh, yeah, I thought it was just milk. So what, what happened?
Laquan Jones
She dated Matthew Stafford's backup quarterback at the University of Georgia, Joe Cox, who she publicly apologized to.
Michael F. Florio
Why is she apologizing to Jo Cox?
Billy Rutledge
Well, she said, I don't want his identity to get out. And then she said he was Matthew Stafford's backup his senior year. It's like, well, we can figure that out pretty easily.
Michael F. Florio
She said she didn't want the idea.
Billy Rutledge
So then she never said his name. She just kind of was given clues of who it could be, but it was like, well, that has to be the backup quarterback.
Michael F. Florio
So she apologized to Joe Cox? Yes. Did she apologize to Matthew Stafford?
Laquan Jones
I mean, probably.
Billy Rutledge
They got kids now. They figured it out somewhere along the way.
Michael F. Florio
And so this came out.
Billy Rutledge
That's the moment I was thinking of.
Michael F. Florio
This came out on her milk podcast.
Laquan Jones
I don't know about the milk.
Michael F. Florio
You're right, though. She had a beef with somebody. I don't remember who it was, but she got into it with like Drew Brees aunt or something. I love.
Billy Rutledge
She has a milk podcast beef with Drew Brees's aunt.
Michael F. Florio
It was somebody. See, I, I, she, Drew is right.
Laquan Jones
She had a beef the morning after with Kelly Stafford.
Michael F. Florio
That's a very seductive name, isn't it?
Laquan Jones
Yes. They're dropping stories.
Michael F. Florio
Morning after. Is that on the NFL Network when.
Billy Rutledge
You drink your milk?
Michael F. Florio
Okay, well, would you bet? Would you vote for him for MVP right now?
Billy Rutledge
I don't know what you're about to ask me because I was thinking podcast and milk. Anything Drew Brees and would.
Michael F. Florio
She's a nice lady.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, no, completely. I don't, I don't want to let the Patriots fans win, but if they don't start losing games, Drake May is going to be your MVP.
Michael F. Florio
No. Or Taylor, you give it to the 17th year guy instead of the set. He's got plenty of time.
Billy Rutledge
I don't disagree.
Michael F. Florio
What if he ends up stinking. And then you're like, remember that year we gave it to Drake Bay?
Billy Rutledge
And we all laugh.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
I saw Jonathan Taylor's about to hit the. Hit the triple crown of yards per carry, touchdowns and total yards. Or not about to. He's on pace to.
Michael F. Florio
To win all three of them and.
Billy Rutledge
That hasn't been done in forever. Maybe. I think maybe Terrell Davis or somebody did it. So if he were to do that and the Colts still be good, that'd be hard.
Michael F. Florio
I'd like to see him win just because running backs don't ever win.
Billy Rutledge
I know. I always wanted Henry or the years Henry were so spectacular. I want him to be in the conversation.
Michael F. Florio
Is it weird that every time I'm watching a game they say Jonathan Taylor? I just want to say Thomas, go back, Tom.
Billy Rutledge
Improvement.
Michael F. Florio
That's good. It's a good home experiment.
Billy Rutledge
Hey, I've been rewatching it lately.
Michael F. Florio
I mean, he. He was a like teen idol.
Billy Rutledge
He was. He was a teen.
Michael F. Florio
Bop. Tiger Beat.
Billy Rutledge
Tiger Beat and Team Bop. Those were the two.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. Doesn't know about Tiger Beach. You don't know that era.
Billy Rutledge
There was nothing more intimidating than, you know, the elementary, middle school dating scene. If you ever were lucky enough to even go in their home because you're young, probably shouldn't be doing that. You go in there and there's just posters of JTT everywhere and you see them like, what am I supposed to do against that?
Michael F. Florio
It would interesting. Be interesting to see a hall of fame of Tiger Beat. So first ballot, New Kids on the Block and like NSYNC and Backstreet Boys that they would be first ballot.
Billy Rutledge
I've got a deep cut. Embarrassed. I'm going to say it.
Michael F. Florio
Kirk Cameron, he's on there. He was big. Let me. I'm gonna do Mart, Paul Gosselar and Mario Lopez. And then JTT is on there for sure.
Billy Rutledge
I think he's like the face of that era.
Michael F. Florio
Of that era. But I think you go back to New Kids on the Block, they were right there too. Okay, so who else would you add to the Tiger?
Billy Rutledge
There was a guy who's in a bunch of movies and he just disappeared. Is there Andrew Keegan, something like he has like pulled back hair?
Michael F. Florio
That's not a problem.
Billy Rutledge
I'm going to pull him up. You're going to know as soon as I show it. He was in all the teen movies.
Michael F. Florio
I think you're making that up.
Billy Rutledge
Yep, that's his name. Got him right here on the COVID of Tiger Beat too.
Michael F. Florio
He's on the COVID of Tiger with jtt. No, he's not. Side by side. No, he's not.
Billy Rutledge
Look, it says JTT and Andrew.
Michael F. Florio
Well, all right, let's look. Andrew Keegan.
Billy Rutledge
Yep.
Michael F. Florio
Oh, yeah, I remember.
Billy Rutledge
He just fell off the grid. He was in everything for a few years.
Michael F. Florio
He was in 10 Things I Hate about you. Also a movie called. He was in some bad movies. Teenage Caveman Returns.
Billy Rutledge
Was that a sequel?
Michael F. Florio
I don't. He must have been because I don't think he was there to begin with. I just want to see, because, you know, the Internet has everything. Has anyone ever made a Tiger Beat hall of Fame? Okay, No, I mean, because listen, if that's. If that happened, I would be impressed. Tiger.
Billy Rutledge
If not, we're gonna do it.
Michael F. Florio
Oh, this is Detroit Tigers hall of Fame. What does Tiger woods need to do to go to the hall of fame?
Billy Rutledge
I'm on oprah.com it has 45 years of tiger Beat covers. It's the closest I can get.
Michael F. Florio
Well, oh, here's some old ones. There's. Oh, these are really old. Oh, here's a good one. Scott Baio.
Billy Rutledge
Oh, yeah.
Michael F. Florio
Do you know who Scott Baio is?
Laquan Jones
No. No.
Michael F. Florio
Charles. In charge of our days and our lives. We're straying a little bit from football on this week's episode. Just a little bit. What's next?
Billy Rutledge
Tiger Beat covers.
Laquan Jones
A name that you guys already mentioned. Drew Brees is joining Fox Sports's NFL coverage. He will be debuting in the Green Bay Packers New York Giants game on Sunday, threw for over 80,000 yards and 571 touchdowns over 20 seasons, and will now join Tom Brady and Greg Olson on the network.
Michael F. Florio
He's an example of why you can't just completely dismiss an announcer when they start. Because if you remember, his first game was just atrocious. He kind of looked at the camera and was like, I like football. Throw ball downfield. And now I actually think he's a pretty good announcer. So he's replacing, I guess, Mark Sanchez. And I think he'll be good. I like that hire. He's also going to become the first announcer for Fox to ever be allowed to call for another network because he was already scheduled to do Netflix's Christmas Day game.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, the Christmas game. Yeah. I like hearing. And Brady also had a rough start.
Michael F. Florio
I still am not a huge fan. I'm not saying he's better, but I think he's better. He's better.
Billy Rutledge
But every once in a while, when they lock into that brain that only a few of them have and they tell you something you don't know or what to look for. Not so much the Romo calling plays, but when they get in depth, those guys that truly know it and you grew up watching, it is different. And I like him out there. And Brady's still pretty rough, but Breeze has improved.
Michael F. Florio
Who would you say? Give me your MVP of NFL color announcers today? Who's the top of the chart? Who's the best?
Billy Rutledge
I'm still upset. Greg Olson got Pastor.
Michael F. Florio
All right, so let's do our top four. For me, it'll be Greg Olson. One, I'm going to still go Chris Collinsworth. Two, I'm going to go. I'm going to go three a rising J.J. watt.
Billy Rutledge
Oh, okay. Is that because he's with your boy.
Michael F. Florio
And all the time I think he does a good job. I really do. And then I'll go four, eight men. Not even so much because I think he's good. I just think he signals like it's a big game because Troy Aikman's on it. So that's how I'm doing. What's yours?
Billy Rutledge
I don't know if I can do Collins Worth. I might put.
Michael F. Florio
Even though I wouldn't put him anywhere.
Billy Rutledge
In the top four, I have Collinsworth exhaustion.
Michael F. Florio
Okay.
Billy Rutledge
It could be from you and on all the time.
Michael F. Florio
The slide signal you don't want me to do.
Billy Rutledge
No, no, you keep doing it. But I just think, okay, the real Collinsworth is suffering because of it.
Michael F. Florio
Okay, There's a young me doing. Yeah. Okay.
Billy Rutledge
Give me your five again. I put.
Michael F. Florio
I go one.
Billy Rutledge
Hold on. Let me.
Michael F. Florio
Let me. Collinsworth, Watt, Eggman.
Billy Rutledge
I'm going to put Romo in there instead of Collinsworth, even though I do get annoyed when he tries too hard to call out the plays. I enjoy listening to Romo and I like watching the Cowboys. When he gets a Cowboys game, that's fun. This guy's new and just getting started, but always love McCourty on NFL Network and the talk shows. And now he's starting to get a chance. He's not in my top five, but I'm really rooting for him.
Michael F. Florio
Is Charles Davis still doing it?
Laquan Jones
Charles Davis is still in it.
Michael F. Florio
He's pretty good. I like him. I didn't. I wasn't familiar with Vilma until he interviewed Trump. It was a beautiful play. It's a big play.
Laquan Jones
Did you say Romo?
Michael F. Florio
I threw. Romo might have been fifth for me. Roman. I got. I had some Romo exhaustion. Like. We get it, man. You know, the plays.
Laquan Jones
Understand.
Billy Rutledge
But I Think they told him to stop.
Michael F. Florio
I do like how excited he gets about it, though. Like, he does. He does get excited about the games, and I like that for announcers. Charles Davis actually probably would be fifth for me. He's probably the. He's interesting because he wasn't that good a player, and yet he keeps rising up the charts, which I think is good.
Cam Jordan
Is.
Billy Rutledge
Is Daryl Johnston still out there?
Michael F. Florio
He's been doing it forever. Is he still doing it?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, I think he's still.
Laquan Jones
I think so.
Michael F. Florio
The problem is I don't get to hear a lot of these announcers because I'm watching Red Zone. So if you do a one o' clock game, I may not hear you Dever call a game.
Billy Rutledge
Well, I watch at one o'. Clock. My Titans, and they ain't getting the A team, the B team or the.
Michael F. Florio
You get a lot of what?
Billy Rutledge
Actually, I've had some.
Michael F. Florio
A lot of. Adam Amin I've had.
Billy Rutledge
We've gotten some Iron Eagle, J.J. watt a few times this year, so that's been a nice treat.
Michael F. Florio
Okay. I can't believe we could see Iron Eagle.
Billy Rutledge
That just adds to an already fun trip.
Michael F. Florio
I'm going to do something. It's going to be our first attempt at this. Can we call ioneagle live on the air? Hang on. This. Oh, boy. What? Hey, bud, can I call you back in two minutes?
Billy Rutledge
I'm just getting in an elevator.
Michael F. Florio
Yes, call me back in two minutes. All right.
Laquan Jones
Oh, we're in.
Michael F. Florio
That's all you get to hear. I just wanted you to know that I knew I needle. So when he calls me back.
Laquan Jones
Oh, what a tease.
Michael F. Florio
We won't talk about. How about you? Just so we will know, that's a name we actually dropped.
Billy Rutledge
How about you don't talk to him until we get to Buffalo. Don't call him back. If he calls back, don't answer.
Michael F. Florio
He's done that to me before, by the way, though. I'll be like, can I get you. No, I'll call and he'll go, I'll call you right back. And then I hear from him six months later, and you're like, hey, you.
Billy Rutledge
Said you're getting an elevator. Like, I don't want to tell you.
Michael F. Florio
So let's keep going until Ayn calls, and then we'll take a break. Go ahead. Okay.
Laquan Jones
The Texans announced that CJ Stroud will not play this Sunday day against the Titans. That means we get more Davis Mills.
Michael F. Florio
Is he hurt or is Davis Mills won the job as one of the best quarterbacks at the Second best college of. By the way, we forgot Jim Plunkett as a Stanford quarterback. Maybe a little better than than Davis Mills to be seen.
Billy Rutledge
Wait till he plays the Titans on Sunday.
Michael F. Florio
So is Stroud hurt or is concussion?
Billy Rutledge
He's concussed.
Michael F. Florio
I mean Davis Mills did well, didn't he?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, I mean he made our Stanford list of best quarterbacks ever.
Michael F. Florio
Who are they playing?
Billy Rutledge
The Titans. That's why I'm saying Davis Mills is about to have another big game.
Michael F. Florio
I think they're going to win. Yeah, right.
Laquan Jones
This could be the start.
Billy Rutledge
Six point favorite.
Laquan Jones
Big season for Davis Mills.
Billy Rutledge
Titans coming off the bye week though. Look out. We're going to be doing all kinds of stuff.
Daniel Jeremiah

Okay, we're back from the Iron Eagle call. Gonna try to see him in Buffalo. Maybe we can do a little quick 30 second interview with I and with with COVID zero. Wouldn't that be exciting? Absolutely.
Billy Rutledge
We'll be in the press box. I'm sure he's going to be somewhere in there. We'll just walk around till we see him.
Michael F. Florio
That's right.
Billy Rutledge
Let's go exploring.
Michael F. Florio
I don't think I've ever had press credentials for an NFL game before. Ever.
Laquan Jones
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
So I don't know what it's going to be like.
Billy Rutledge
You might get a free lunch, maybe free coffee.
Michael F. Florio
I judge teams by what they give you at the game. U of L the other night played Kentucky. The Louisville food a lot better than Kentucky's food.
Billy Rutledge
I talk to a lot of people that come to Kentucky from other schools and they're like, how do you all do this here?
Michael F. Florio
It's bad. But Buffalo, I'm Feeling like wings, bananas, like everything you would want.
Laquan Jones
Wings and bananas.
Billy Rutledge
Are we going to get those wings? Maybe they'll have media room wings, but are we going to get the. The local Buffalo wings?
Michael F. Florio
You and I've eaten that once before.
Billy Rutledge
Mario over here likes chicken wings, so we'll have to get them back.
Michael F. Florio
I mean, that's the place where they originally go, but people tell you not to go to that. They say that there are better places. We went to Buffalo. It was really depressing. I'm hoping to have a better. Remember, we went and, like, the whole city was shut down.
Billy Rutledge
Nothing was going on.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. So I'm hoping we have a better impression this time.
Billy Rutledge
We got there kind of late. It was dark. We went and got Buffalo wings, and that was kind of the extent of the night.
Michael F. Florio
I thought I found a place for us to stay. And it said church slash basketball court slash Airbnb. I felt like that was a good combination.
Billy Rutledge
You're just gonna run us a community center. Big money over there. Did you call him, tell him we work for the NFL?
Michael F. Florio
Well, so I wrote him. It was a little expensive, and I was like, if you could. So if you could bring it down. What was $2,200 for two nights? I was like, if you could bring it down to, like, 1500, I'd be for it. And she said, we're focused on monthly rentals. So here's my question. Who's renting that for a month? What are you doing with it?
Billy Rutledge
Playing basketball, maybe. Maybe they get a Bills player coming through temporarily to finish out the year. Throw them in there.
Michael F. Florio
Go ahead and do it and make them accept me. Just to see what it's like. All right, what's next?
Laquan Jones
The NFL has their final international game of the season this Sunday in Madrid, Spain, and they got a good one. Commander's Dolphins. Daddy Yankee is going to perform at halftime. Daddy Yankee.
Michael F. Florio
Who's that? First of all, I'm not calling anyone Daddy Yankee.
Laquan Jones
I believe he's a rapper, but mainly of a different dialect than English.
Michael F. Florio
What dialect is he?
Laquan Jones
I believe it's Spanish.
Michael F. Florio
So why would a Spanish rapper call himself Daddy Yankee? Yankee's an American term.
Laquan Jones
Yeah, I mean, you know, you'd have to ask him.
Michael F. Florio
All right, well, let's look it up.
Laquan Jones
And a couple other storylines from that game. It's a battle of Hawaiian quarterbacks with Marcus Mariota and Tua Tagovailo.
Michael F. Florio
That's kind of cool.
Laquan Jones
Washington has allowed 82 points in the last two games. So Dan Quinn says he's taking over play calling. Duties on defense.
Michael F. Florio
Daddy Yankee, by the way, is Puerto Rican. He's dubbed the King of Reggae. Ton. Is that how you say it?
Billy Rutledge
Sounds about right.
Michael F. Florio
He is. He's. He's older than I am. He's. He's 49. He also goes by the Big Boss in Winchester.
Billy Rutledge
I've heard of Daddy Yankee. I'm familiar. I don't drive around listening to a lot of it, but I know the name.
Michael F. Florio
How do you.
Laquan Jones
Been around a while.
Michael F. Florio
How do you know him?
Billy Rutledge
Like he's been. He's a feature in a lot of stuff. I used to sing.
Michael F. Florio
Do you know the name of his biggest song of all time?
Billy Rutledge
Couldn't tell you. Oh, wait. Does he sing? He doesn't sing Gasolina, does he?
Michael F. Florio
That's what it is. How in the world did you know that?
Billy Rutledge
I told you. I know Daddy Yankee. He was big time for a while. He's getting a little old.
Michael F. Florio
How did you know Gasolina?
Billy Rutledge
I'm telling you, it was a big deal. I know. I'm familiar with Daddy Yankee. It's just he's getting old. Bad bunny pushed him out of the way and took over.
Michael F. Florio
Wow. He was cited by CNN as the most influential Hispanic artist of the early 2000s. It's a very specific award, but that's a big award.
Billy Rutledge
I would think you would know Gasoline if you heard it. I don't know the music rights we have on this.
Michael F. Florio
Do we have the music rights for Gasoline?
Billy Rutledge
See, we all know Daddy Yankee. Wow.
Michael F. Florio
Was he in. He was also in a movie called Gasolina. Well, there you go. Who knew? Well, so he's performing. And what else has happened? The Hawaiian quarterbacks.
Laquan Jones
Hawaiian quarterbacks. Dan Quinn's taking over play calling on defense. And then the NFL is adding games in Australia and Brazil next year.
Billy Rutledge
Year?
Michael F. Florio
Well, they played in Brazil last couple years. Australia, that's far away, man. Like you're gonna.
Billy Rutledge
Is. Is McDaniel gonna drive by the Commander's bar in Spain if they win? Do the little lap? His victory lap?
Michael F. Florio
Yeah, I did a victory lap. Well, he should do a victory lap. He's staying for the rest of the year. I thought you talk about. I had him fired every week.
Billy Rutledge
We did. We just came. Well, next show, who will be the new coach? And he goes and beats the Bills by a million.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. You like is in Madrid?
Marcus Grant
Yes.
Billy Rutledge
Yep.
Michael F. Florio
So I just saw the record couple.
Billy Rutledge
Three and seven teams.
Michael F. Florio
If I ever disappear and I go.
Laquan Jones
Off the grid, where you're going, I.
Michael F. Florio
Will be in Spain. Spain is my favorite. Spain's my Favorite country to potentially, like, live in.
Billy Rutledge
Why?
Michael F. Florio
Just the whole vibe. Take naps in the afternoon.
Billy Rutledge
Sold. Come in.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah, I mean, dinner starts at like 8:30. You stay up late, sleep late, work's like, nah, you know, you get around to it. Tapas. See, I like tapas because you go to a restaurant and you order like nine things.
Billy Rutledge
I love a tapas restaurant.
Michael F. Florio
And they're just, they're small, but like, you don't, you know, you don't have to sit there and go, oh, do I get the chicken or the fish? You just get it all.
Billy Rutledge
Sometimes you only have three or four things. You get three or four people to go with you. You all have to build a buffet on the street.
Michael F. Florio
Sangria. And then it's like, you know, and then the soccer is, is fun there. And they, you know Spanish. I can speak a little. Enough Spanish to know what's going on. No, I don't. I'm not fluent, but I can. So I just, I feel like I would enjoy it.
Laquan Jones
Could you give us a little of that now?
Michael F. Florio
I mean, Gasolina.
Billy Rutledge
I got kicked out of the Foreign Language Festival at Murray State. I was in there in the Spanish competition and I left campus to get pizza. When I came back, they said, we told you not to leave campus. You are disqualified. That was the end of my Spanish speaking.
Michael F. Florio
Was this, like, last week?
Billy Rutledge
It was in high school. I was in Spanish too. We traveled to go show off our Spanish. I got a pizza craving, went and got pizza. Came back. They said, no, sir, we know you went over there.
Michael F. Florio
Why can't you have a more authentic place to show off your Spanish than Murray, Kentucky?
Billy Rutledge
It's the Spanish Language Festival. We were trying to broaden our horizons in West.
Michael F. Florio
You asked me if I could do it. I, I, I'm, I can like, listen to it and kind of get it. I'm actually not the best at speaking. I know it seems weird you do both, but, like, I have to sit there and think about grammar because I don't want to be, you know, And.
Laquan Jones
I don't do that masculine or feminine thing.
Michael F. Florio
Yolo Tango. Biblioteca.
Laquan Jones
Library.
Michael F. Florio
It's amazing that that's a word we all know. I couldn't tell you Library in another language. But all right. That's nice. I hope they have a good time. What's next?
Laquan Jones
Big matchup at 4:00 clock in the NFC West. The 49ers will travel to take on the Arizona Cardinals for the 14th time this year. Arizona is 3 and 6 this year, and they'll have to play without Marvin Harrison Jr. This week. He's missing his first game of his career after emergency appendicitis surgery.
Michael F. Florio
I saw that. You know, appendicitis, that's when your appendix. Is it when it bursts?
Billy Rutledge
I think.
Laquan Jones
Yes, I believe so.
Michael F. Florio
So what. What does your appendix do?
Laquan Jones
I don't know, but people get it removed a lot.
Michael F. Florio
I know. And it's often, like, it's a serious thing, right?
Laquan Jones
Yeah. You can get really sick when it bursts.
Michael F. Florio
So why don't we do it like wisdom teeth and just have everybody take it out? Does it some serve some purpose?
Laquan Jones
Not sure.
Billy Rutledge
So you're saying, like, everyone turns 15, let's just go get our appendixes removed?
Michael F. Florio
Well, I just feel like it's. It feels like the cost benefit ratio is. I mean, Marvin Harrison's one of the best athletes in football, maybe in, like. So if he. If he gets it and it's an emergency surgery and all the football he's.
Billy Rutledge
Played, never missed a game.
Michael F. Florio
Never.
Billy Rutledge
High school, college, NFL.
Michael F. Florio
So there's part of you that goes, well, why do we have it?
Billy Rutledge
It's on the lower right side of the abdomen. I know that much.
Laquan Jones
You do not need it to survive. So that's why you see it commonly removed.
Michael F. Florio
Why do you.
Laquan Jones
Gut health plays a critical role in digestion and overall health.
Michael F. Florio
But can't be that critical if you can take it out.
Laquan Jones
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
I mean, being real, if you can take it out, then how critical can it be?
Laquan Jones
Yeah, it's there. But, like, if the government or the body were to shut down, you know, they would. It wouldn't be like a critical employee.
Billy Rutledge
You know, the government, they shut down their.
Michael F. Florio
I see what you're saying. Yeah, I cut you off too early. It's not a critical employee. But it would be nice to have it sort of like the park rangers. Yeah, they're not critical.
Laquan Jones
Yes.
Michael F. Florio
But it's good to have them for gut health.
Laquan Jones
You'd appreciate it. Park ranger.
Michael F. Florio
That's a phrase, by the way, that we also never used to say gut health. Yeah. You remember hearing that until, like, three years ago?
Billy Rutledge
No.
Michael F. Florio
People be like, how's your gut health? I don't know, dude.
Billy Rutledge
All right. I guess feeling pretty normal.
Michael F. Florio
I mean. Yeah. Well, I hope he gets better. Arizona's like, what, they're three and six?
Laquan Jones
Three and six?
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. So it's not going to really matter, but hopefully he gets healthy. He's a really talented guy. I wish he wasn't playing for. You know, Larry Fitzgerald played for Arizona forever. I feel like I saw him make two catches ever. And he's one of the best of all time. Just because no one watches their games? Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
You mean. You didn't mean he was only making two catches? Yeah. Not significant enough.
Michael F. Florio
What NFL team have you seen, you think collectively the fewest minutes of their games in history.
Billy Rutledge
Probably the Chargers. The Cardinals at least made a Super bowl charge.
Michael F. Florio
Cardinals, though, are. The Chiefs and Chargers are always on tv. The Chargers made a Super Bowl.
Billy Rutledge
That's true. If I go Back to the LT.
Michael F. Florio
Days when I was a kid in the 80s, Dan Fouts, they would show those a lot. I think it's the Cardinals. I mean, they had that one year with Kurt Warner. But when. When's the last time you've cared about a Cardinals game?
Billy Rutledge
Well, that is the only win my Titans have this year when they were tripping over the football in the fourth quarter. But before that, none.
Laquan Jones
Our video game. Mario had a great Larry Fitzgerald moment. You remember that?
Michael F. Florio
Yes, he asked. That was true. We went to a party and Mario, who's 25, 26, went up to Larry Fitzgerald and asked for a picture. And Larry Fitzgerald thought he meant he wanted a picture. And he instead wanted Larry Fitzgerald to take a picture of us.
Billy Rutledge
He's like, I'll just get this guy to take a photo and proceed was.
Michael F. Florio
So he asked Larry Fitzgerald if Larry Fitzgerald would take a picture of us and not be in it.
Billy Rutledge
Nice guy, though. Took a good picture.
Cam Jordan
He did.
Michael F. Florio
He took it, didn't he? I think he did.
Laquan Jones
What a nice guy.
Michael F. Florio
Can you imagine that, by the way?
Laquan Jones
It's like a prank thing somebody would do.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. I mean, I know Larry Fitzgerald, but they did that to me. He's a guy at the U of L game the other night, I was talking with the Craig Greenberg, Mayor Lowell, who's my friend. Guy walks up to me and goes, can I get your picture? And he hands it, or can I get a picture? And he hands it to me and then takes once. Craig. It's like, come on, man. That's good. Good. So same thing with that.

Daniel Jeremiah

Michael F. Florio
Good Rasheed Rice was last season. And there's three healthy games. He was the wide receiver. Two in fantasy.
Billy Rutledge
I think Rasheed Rice just goes off this week. The Chiefs come on a flip pass.
Michael F. Florio
To Rice near side touch.
Laquan Jones
Ramandre Stevens is my sleeper this week. This is a matchup where I think I can slide in Stevenson in my flex position and he could deliver double digit points this week.
Michael F. Florio
Drake takes the snap, hands it off. Ray running it right and running into the end zone. Touchdown.
Marcus Grant

Michael F. Florio
What's next?
Laquan Jones
The Eagles just traded for Jair Alexander to bolster their secondary right before the trade deadline. He just decided this week to step away from football to get right physically and mentally.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah, I was sorry to hear that. I mean, they just made a trade. What'd they give, like a sixth or seventh round pick for him?
Laquan Jones
It was a late round pick swap.
Michael F. Florio
So there's a layout, so not much.
Laquan Jones
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
Well, I hope he's all right. That kid played at Louisville, seemed like he was good for a long time, so. Well, I hope whatever it is, it makes it better. You know, what if something's happening where you don't feel like you can be at your best, good to step away and go take care of it.
Billy Rutledge
So, yeah, Longtime Packer was with the Ravens just for a little bit and now this. So he's battling something and talking about.
Michael F. Florio
Guy who's gotten on three good. Yeah, I mean, he talked about getting three good organizations, but he's only with the Eagles for a week and then.
Billy Rutledge
He was out and Ravens was just the beginning of this year. So I hope he gets better. He's still. Still youngish for his position. Got a little more football in him. That's right.
Michael F. Florio
They play with Lamar. Played or was maybe a little bit four.
Billy Rutledge
I don't know exactly what games, but he was with them for a stint. A cup of coffee, as they say.
Michael F. Florio
That's right. What's next?
Laquan Jones
And finally we started with the Giants. Will end with the Giants after firing their head coach. And with Jackson Dart still in concussion protocol, Jameis Winston will be making the start.
Michael F. Florio
This is exciting.
Billy Rutledge
I can't wait.
Michael F. Florio
James Winston, he's talking about a guy who's got a good television career. Although I don't know what you can put him on because he could say anything.
Billy Rutledge
Whatever it is, I'll watch.
Michael F. Florio
He is very entertaining and the video of him at the press conference was excellent.
Billy Rutledge
Singing Hamilton.
Michael F. Florio
He sang. He was singing Hamilton. That's right. And he was like, 10th anniversary, it's Russell Wilson. Like, is he okay?
Billy Rutledge
He says he's not retiring.
Laquan Jones
Just stinks, I guess.
Michael F. Florio
Boy, nobody has had a more precipitous fall. In all parts of life than Russell Wilson.
Billy Rutledge
He said he hasn't asked for a release. He wants to stick around.
Michael F. Florio
And do what?
Billy Rutledge
Back up Jameis Winston, I guess.
Laquan Jones
Let's ride.
Michael F. Florio
Is this one of those you just like, you do like an office space and you give him a smaller and smaller locker. It's like, all right, Russell, make him fly. Charter spirit.
Billy Rutledge
Put the practice squad guy between him and Jameis. Make him third.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. See, is Russell even going to be the backup?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, I think so.
Michael F. Florio
What if they bring in Bailey Zappy? I feel like every time Bailey Zappy gets brought in, you know, it's over.
Laquan Jones
That's a Western guy.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, that's your boy Billy.
Laquan Jones
Like, NCAA records right now, by the way. So. Yeah, keep your name out of.
Billy Rutledge
Did you cover him in college?
Laquan Jones
No, it was just after my.
Michael F. Florio
But I do feel like anytime something's gone really bad, Bailey Zappi is involved. Like when he came in and Shador Sanders got demoted. The practice squad for Bailey Zappy, I think. I think Bailey Zappy was like, who got brought in to kind of end Mac Jones's time in New England. They're like, oh, here comes Bailey Zappy.
Laquan Jones
True.
Michael F. Florio
So I think that's always a signal. When you see Bailey Zappy, things are not going well.
Billy Rutledge
Do you think you have, like a cave at his house? He's just sitting in there with pads all around him, just waiting for that signal to go off somewhere in the league.
Michael F. Florio
I do wonder if those guys, guys that are known, but not on a team like Flacco, just watch and flip from channel to channel, hoping somebody gets hurt.
Billy Rutledge
Studying every offense, receivers where you want to go.
Michael F. Florio
Somebody goes down and they're like, come on. I'm not sure if Zappy does that. He probably wouldn't. A Western man, like, yeah, I mean.
Laquan Jones
Backup'S a good job. I mean, you hold a clipboard, you make millions of dollars.
Billy Rutledge
He was Mahomes back out.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah, I don't think you make millions. I mean, some of them do, but I don't think. I don't think. I'm just going to tell you. I don't think Bailey Zappy's getting practice.
Laquan Jones
Squad would be a good job in the NFL.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah.
Laquan Jones
You don't do anything and you still make six figures.
Billy Rutledge
Bailey Zappy's on a one year, $1.1 million.
Michael F. Florio
No way. Millionaire Bailey Zappy makes $1.1 million according to the Internet. Wow, what a good life.
Billy Rutledge
I should have been better at quarterback.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. Jeff Teague, which has nothing to do with Bailey Zappy. But I was listening to Jeff Teague this morning and he had a great thing about guys making money. And he was like, when I was young, nobody told me you could make money with money. He was like, when I made $5 million, I was like, well, if I live 50 years, I could have $100,000 a year. And somebody was like, you could put it in an account and it makes interest. And he just, I said, he said, I looked at that guy and went, you crazy. Which I thought was one of the great clips. You need to look it up. Jeff Teague talking about interest is a really good clip.
Billy Rutledge
Maybe he could lead a financial literacy class for the NBA.
Michael F. Florio
I think they should teach that for a lot of. A lot of guys. That's what they're getting paid.
Billy Rutledge
Now.
Michael F. Florio
I want you to look up Billy the. The playoff situation.
Laquan Jones
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
Do you have that for me?
Marcus Grant
I do.
Michael F. Florio
So if the playoffs started today, what would it look like?
Laquan Jones
Do you want the NFC or the AFC?
Michael F. Florio
First, let's start with the afc.
Laquan Jones
The afc. The Colts would be receiving a buy. The two seed Broncos would take on the seven seed Jaguars.
Michael F. Florio
The Pats, Broncos, Jaguars. That would be the Saturday noon game. You know how they have, they have three games each day. I can guarantee you Saturday noon. That's when they play Broncos, Jaguars. Yeah, I would agree without question. All right, what's the next one Would.
Laquan Jones
Be the three seed Patriots versus the six seed Bills. That would be a nice AFC ease there. And then you have the four seed Pittsburgh Steelers versus the five seed LAC Chargers.
Michael F. Florio
Were you figuring that out in real time what LAC stood for?
Laquan Jones
No, I was just adding that for flair.
Michael F. Florio
So right now the Chiefs would not be in a good flair.
Laquan Jones
Correct.
Michael F. Florio
Wow.
Billy Rutledge
And the Chiefs play the Broncos this week.
Michael F. Florio
Big game for the Chiefs.
Billy Rutledge
Big game.
Michael F. Florio
Big game for the Chiefs. Boy, that would be crazy because I still think they're the best team and if they're not even in the playoffs, that would be nuts. All right. Nfc.
Laquan Jones
Nfc. The Eagles would receive a buy as the one seed. It would be the two seed Seattle Seahawks versus the seven seed Green Bay Packers.
Michael F. Florio
Okay.
Laquan Jones
It would be the three seed Detroit Lions versus the six seed Chicago Bears.
Michael F. Florio
Three seed Detroit. Oh, that would be fun. I would. That would be exciting. A good rivalry game in the playoffs.
Laquan Jones
And then the four or five would be Bucks Rams.
Michael F. Florio
That would be the other contender to be at 1 at noon on Saturday. That would be the noon on Sunday game.
Billy Rutledge
The Seahawks Rams are both seven and two and play this week. So that will go one way or another. That Will change.
Michael F. Florio
Well, let's make some picks. All right, Bill, you. You have won the Survivor League.
Laquan Jones
That's right.
Michael F. Florio
But I want to see how long you can keep going. All right. Because Drew and I are out. So what are the teams you've picked so far?
Laquan Jones
Yeah, I don't have that in front of me. Let me get that, and then I'll be able to make my pick here.
Michael F. Florio
What do you mean you don't have it in front of you?
Laquan Jones
I don't have my.
Michael F. Florio
Did you leave it at home?
Laquan Jones
No, I got it here. I'm just highly unorganized, like you the other day.
Billy Rutledge
Should be behind your daddy. Yankee notes.
Laquan Jones
Okay, here it is. I got it. I got it. Okay, so I have Jags, Cards, Bills, Colts, Chiefs, Patriots, and then the one that I did last week, which was Seattle. And then I also have. Yeah, Seattle. So there.
Michael F. Florio
So who do you like here?
Laquan Jones
You know, it's tough.
Michael F. Florio
I mean, the biggest favorite is Patriots, but you can't pick them.
Laquan Jones
No, can't pick the Patriots here. I'm almost inclined to take the Texans over the Titans.
Billy Rutledge
Easy. When else you can pick the Texans, it's just.
Michael F. Florio
But Davis. It's only five and a half points.
Laquan Jones
Davis Mills, though, and he's. He's kind of become our, like, podcast icon here, so.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah, I mean, I get that. I think I would probably, if I were you. So if I was still in the game, I would probably take packers over Giants. No offense to James.
Laquan Jones
I took the packers already.
Michael F. Florio
Okay. See, I don't think I. Oh, I'm sorry.
Laquan Jones
No, I haven't.
Michael F. Florio
Well, do you want to switch? No. All right. So you're going to take the. No, I do not.
Laquan Jones
No, I'll stick with the Texas.
Michael F. Florio
Actually, I don't think I've picked the Patriots yet either, so. I could have picked them. All right, so let's do our touchdown game. I think I go first this week. And let's see. I'm going to take Stefan Diggs tonight.
Billy Rutledge
Oh, he's been good for me in.
Michael F. Florio
Real life on Thursday Night Football. I'm going to take Stefan Diggs. I've not picked him as my wide receiver. Drew, you're next. He's a quarterback or a running back.
Billy Rutledge
I've been betting on him. He's been hitting. I will take. I'm going to go running back. Try. Have I used any running backs? Do you have my list? I don't know who I've used. I've used Saquon. I know.
Laquan Jones
I don't have the list.
Billy Rutledge
I know I've used. I'll get a. I'll get one that's off the grid that I haven't used. I'll say Josh Jacobs against the Giants. I know I haven't used him. That should be a blowout.
Michael F. Florio
Josh Jacobs. All right, so Stefan Diggs. Josh Jacobs. Billy, that means you got to pick a quarterback.
Laquan Jones
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
Who have you picked?
Laquan Jones
Jackson Darby.
Michael F. Florio
All right. That's it?
Laquan Jones
Yeah, I believe so.
Michael F. Florio
Okay, so what quarterback do you want?
Laquan Jones
I'm sticking with the Giants. I'm going James Winston. Give me a rushing touchdown from famous James.
Michael F. Florio
All these guys. You got Jalen Hurts. You got Mahomes, you got Lamar. You're gonna take. You're gonna take Jameis Winston.
Billy Rutledge
I like it.
Michael F. Florio
Billy.
Billy Rutledge
Last time you did this was Jackson dart, and all he does is rush touchdowns.
Michael F. Florio
So you're up 4, 3, 1.
Laquan Jones
You are.
Michael F. Florio
I'm up 4, 3, 1.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
And you think the way to catch up is to pick Jameis Winston?
Laquan Jones
Yeah. I mean, anybody can pick Josh Allen. Jalen hurts.
Michael F. Florio
But you haven't yet. You could do it.
Laquan Jones
Yeah, maybe I will later.
Billy Rutledge
Who bets on the favorite? How many?
Laquan Jones
How often do you get Jameis starting at Rock?
Michael F. Florio
Maybe the rest of the year.
Laquan Jones
The one guy I was too afraid to go up to and ask for a picture.
Michael F. Florio
Oh, you were scared?
Laquan Jones
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
You thought he was gonna get angry at you?
Laquan Jones
No. He'd be the one guy that'd be nice enough to do it. But as a big Tampa fan and just he.
Michael F. Florio
Sweet. What are you going to do when we get in that locker room? You're going to see.
Laquan Jones
Oh, I'll be fine. I'll be fine.
Michael F. Florio
Vita Veya.
Laquan Jones
I'll be fine. I'll be tossing around the NFL and talking to Baker.
Michael F. Florio
Hey, but you're going to go to Vita Vegan. Go. Billy. Billy. Billy Rutledge. NFL Billy.
Laquan Jones
Our sports. That's probably what he'd know me by.
Michael F. Florio
NFL. Okay. Oh, you think he would know you.
Laquan Jones
But I don't know how they do it. Like, do they still open the locker room, or is it like. I think they open the player thing or, like, podium free for all?
Michael F. Florio
Yeah, I don't know. I mean, like, it's. The whole thing's gonna be interesting because we're not gonna fit in with these people. Yeah. I mean, with the rest this media, we're not gonna fit in. We're gonna be trying to break into ian Eagle and J.J. watts Booth.
Billy Rutledge
I'm gonna have pieces of a table on my back when I'm checking into the press box.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah.
Laquan Jones
Probably can't wear a Tom Brady jersey. Into the.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah. Okay, so a couple rules here for you two. You cannot wear. I mean, you can wear whatever you want, but you can't wear team gear. So you can't wear Bill's gear in the press box. Now, you can wear it if you want to wear it when you're out in the parking lot, you can't. But you can't wear it in the press box. I don't even know if you have Bill's gear, which means you can't wear Tampa gear.
Laquan Jones
Okay?
Michael F. Florio
I don't want you all to embarrass me. I've traveled enough with Drew. I know he won't embarrass me. Mario, you can't ask people for pictures, selfies.
Laquan Jones
Okay?
Michael F. Florio
I'm serious.
Billy Rutledge
Don't run out there to Josh Allen.
Michael F. Florio
Baker Mayfield and go, what up, bro? Big fan. Can we get a selfie? You can't do that. All right.
Laquan Jones
Or ask Baker to take a picture of you.
Michael F. Florio
You can do that.
Laquan Jones
Oh, you can do that.
Michael F. Florio
Billy, the Bucks are your team. Please, when we walk in, don't cry.
Laquan Jones
I can handle that.
Michael F. Florio
All right.
Billy Rutledge
Are you going to ask a question?
Michael F. Florio
Oh, yeah, no.
Billy Rutledge
Leave aside the player thing. That's easy. Anybody can do that. But in the media setting with the coach at the podium. You got a Todd question, Todd?
Laquan Jones
I'll think of one. I can think of one.
Michael F. Florio
Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
Be thinking of one. You should have one in one and.
Michael F. Florio
A losing win for you to ask. I asked a question at the Ryder cup for that reason. I was like, I want to say that I asked a question at the Ryder Cup. So I asked Lee Westwood a question. I see what he thought of Kentucky.
Laquan Jones
Yeah.
Michael F. Florio
And he was like, mate, it's brilliant.
Billy Rutledge
You could say. You have to introduce yourself. Billy Rutledge, KSR pre show and the NFL.
Michael F. Florio
Billy Rutledge. NFL.
Laquan Jones
NFL.
Michael F. Florio
Billy Rutledge, personal assistant, Roger Goodell.
Billy Rutledge
You can. You can do that one. Because it sounds like you've already been introducing yourself like that for a few weeks now, so you got that one down.
Michael F. Florio

On being part of the NFL:
On owner involvement:
On Twitch culture:
On stafford's career:
On player-fan boundaries:
This episode delivers the signature KSR blend of gridiron discussion and levity. While eager for their Buffalo adventure, Matt, Drew, Billy, and friends break down a busy week in the NFL, never straying far from tangents—be it 90s teen idols, gut health, or the trials of Bailey Zappe. The episode is particularly rich in personality-driven NFL takes, fan-access stories, and behind-the-scenes commentary on media coverage and team culture.
