Foreign it is week 10 NFL Cover Zero podcast. I am coming to you from parts unknown in the northeast and Drew is in Lexington as is Billy. We are getting ready midweek on trade deadline week where a ton of stuff happened down the stretch and now Drew halfway point of the season. A lot of big names or relatively big names switch switch locations and ready for another big week after. You know it feels like Two or three weeks of kind of a blase schedule. I think we get back to some big ones this weekend.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we got another international game and the trade deadline just hit, as you said, and there were some big surprises there, some teams trying to win now with some big moves. I look forward to breaking down with you.
Matt Jones
It's never a dull moment. Cover 0 in NFL International game in Berlin. You ever been to. I think it's the first time the NFL's ever been in Germany. Have you? I don't think you've never been to Germany. Am I correct?
Drew Franklin
I've never done Germany, done Ireland and parts of this, Liverpool, Manchester, but never got over to Germany. Those are the only places.
Matt Jones
Germany, Berlin known for its nightclubs and its party scene, which I know would be of, you know, huge impact to all of us. It was the. The Germans really like the. What is it? The European. When they did the NFL of Europe or NFL Europe. So I think they'll actually get a big crowd over there. And they gave them. I don't know, they gave them Falcons, Colts. That's not a terrible game. Probably on paper, didn't look like as good a game as it'll be when they actually get over there. They get a little Daniel Jones and what is actually kind of an important game for the Colts. So do you think Germany will be excited? Sprecken Z Deutsch. As they get ready to watch Daniel Jones versus Michael Penix?
Drew Franklin
I think they'll be very excited. If you were asking them about this game in June, they're probably more excited about seeing the Falcons than the Colts, but that is flipped. And yeah, I'm sure those would be excited to get a football game. I saw Michigan football today, canceled their Berlin game. So one game has been taken away from Germany, but the NFL is still showing up and playing one this Sunday.
Matt Jones
I thought that was a weird game Michigan was playing over there. Anyway, it was Michigan versus Western Michigan and they were going all the way to Germany. That seemed like a little out of the way. I can't believe there are that many Western Michigan fans that would have been in Berlin. So I guess they were just assuming that all the Wolverines would go all the way to Berlin. I remember when they scheduled that. I thought that was a really bizarre game. So it makes sense that it's gone. I spent a lot of time in Germany last year during the European Soccer Championships. I'm going to go ahead and say this may offend people as a country. The worst food on planet Earth is in Germany in terms of if you're talking about a nation's cuisine, it's the worst. What do you call those? Wiener stencils or whatever the, the, you know, I don't know. Everything is. It's all got big, big sausage and it's just. It's not good. And if you. I mean, I guess if you like beer. I'm not a big beer guy. Germany's positive for that. But in terms of food, your heart clogs the moment you get there. And I'm not really a German food guy.
Drew Franklin
I could put away some beer, kraut and franks, but I'm more interested in seeing if we get any nightclub troubles from these teams. I don't know what kind of party animals are on these rosters. I don't know personally, but anytime you get games like this, we even saw it happen, I guess, in London earlier this year. Sometimes some guys can. Can find some trouble. Or was it Ireland?
Matt Jones
The most exclusive nightclubs in the world are in Berlin. Like, you have to be. Apparently you have to be insanely attractive to even get in. People will come for, like, come and over and over and just try to get in and look as hot as they can. So I think it would be funny if the NFL had sent us, the three of us, to just try to get into the clubs and, like, see, could the three of us get into one of Berlin's hottest nightclubs? Now, I would want to leave as soon as we got there because it would be too loud and it goes all night long. But I would just like to be able to say that I got into one of Berlin's hottest clubs.
Drew Franklin
Well, I don't know that Daniel Jones and Kirk Cousins will be skipping the line either.
Matt Jones
Oh, you think they wouldn't let in Daniel Jones or Kirk Cousins?
Drew Franklin
I don't know if those are two guys that'll be checking out the club seeds. So maybe these were the teams to send over to Berlin.
Matt Jones
Daniel Jones would get in. If Danny Dobbs doesn't get in, I don't know. They. The Berlin nightclub scene, you ought to read about it sometimes. I mean, it's. It's a whole. It's a whole thing. But I hope they have success in their first NFL game and it'll give me something to wake up to on Sunday morning. I can guarantee you this. The score will be going into halftime, like nine to six. That's going to be what the score is. It'll be. It will be a depressingly low scoring game going into halftime. My prediction is, whatever the first half under Is Drew take it.
Drew Franklin
And I will be locked in. I love the early morning games. I'll probably have the same game parlay and we'll enjoy getting started right when I wake up. That's the best part of all these.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Robinson though, you do get, you do get many of the two best running backs in the league. So I mean if they, for, for, for, for a, you know, a London Berlin game to get the two best running backs in the league is good. Now a lot of stuff in the news, but I think the biggest story of the week is that the jets basically broke down their entire team. Three let go, including Sauce Gardner, Quinn Williams. They are essentially acknowledging a massive rebuild. It looked to me like. And the Sauce Gardner and the Williams trade, they got huge value. Two first round picks in one of them, a first and a second round pick in the next one. They're going to end up with this year, two first rounders and two second rounders and then the year after, three first rounders out of this. You know, it's, it's, it stinks for the jets in the sense that if you're a Jets fan, you've now lost your identity. What was probably a top five defense, but it was a top five defense that had you going one in seven anyway. So it feels like to me it's probably the right choice in there, but it's a complete and total rebuild for the Jets.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Quinn and Williams and Sauce Gardner, two elite players, a defensive tackle and cornerback. You had to go get something for them because obviously you're not going to get wins anytime soon. And they're both in their prime sauce being a little bit younger. And then on the other in this shows the Colts and Cowboys, like you got to win now because you gave up a lot. These are two very expensive players and you're kind of counting on your roster to go out and get a W. So they've got a couple years to pull this off. I think the jets could have won this trade because the jets are loading up on picks now. They'll probably waste them when it gets to that point. But the Cowboys and Colts need to really take advantage of this right away.
Matt Jones
Well, and you also, I mean, I think you could next year maybe package those to get up to get the quarterback you want. I think one of those two years they're definitely going to take their quarterback. But if you're Aaron Glenn, I think this is like a trade for job security. You get, you go, well, you traded away all my good players. How in the world could you fire me. Just skip over the fact that you went one in seven. I was shocked though at some of the returns. I mean the Cowboys giving up two first round picks. I mean they're essentially trading what Micah Parsons for Quinn Williams. I mean that's, that's essentially what they're doing. I was just really surprised by some of the return on them. And if you're the jets, you don't want to say, hey, the jets made a good deal, but they made a good deal. It feels like to me they did.
Drew Franklin
The Cowboys, I get why they did it because they have a great offense. Dak is having maybe his best year, so you want to go out and get help. But their secondary still has holes, they still have linebacker problems. I worry they went out and got this big shiny piece, but this, the secondary pieces around them still aren't good enough. So even though I'm excited for the Cowboys, I like that it happened. And I wonder how much he single handedly can change the position. He's great inside, stopping the run and getting pass rush from the inside, but they have a lot more problems than just that on that defense.
Matt Jones
So here's the question for you. Would you rather be one in seven but living in New York or be six and two and have to live in Indianapolis? If you're Sauce Gardener, which one of those is the better deal for you? Indianapolis with a winning record or New York with the losing record? You and I are both New York guys. We like it. Would you rather be in Indianapolis eating the pork tenderloin sandwiches?
Drew Franklin
If it's a fresh start and I haven't already been at either one, honestly, I'm probably picking the jets in New York. But Sauce and Quinn and Williams have both given New York enough and they still haven't gotten much in return. So good for them on getting out. But I would choose a losing team over Living Indiana. I'm that selfish.
Matt Jones
I mean, you and I both believe living in Indiana would be the worst fate to put on a man, but nevertheless, he's going to do it. I think it's interesting. The Colts clearly believe they can win now. I mean, you make this trade only if you believe you are close to winning a championship. And I guess they do, which is not something I would have thought that they're there, but I get it. Seize the day and we'll see if it ends up working out. Now Billy.
Drew Franklin
Poor Breeze hall didn't get out though he wanted traded. Breeze had his his bags packed and was just waiting for them to tell him he's out. And then he stuck around even tweeting positions.
Matt Jones
Breeze hall is the one that needs it the most. He's the one that can do the least about all of this as a running back. I mean he, he's like everybody gets a ticket out except him. But I don't know what they were offered. But I also understand why, why they wouldn't do it. Because he's a guy that you want to have on your offense. But that's tough for Breeze Hall. Everybody else gets out and you don't know Billy. There were a lot of other ones. I'm going to let you do the headlines this week. I hope you are mentally prepared to do them. Do you have some wonderful headlines for us? Oh, yeah.
Billy
I'm ready to go. And we can start with trade deadline day in which there were eight trades on that Tuesday alone. It was tied for the second most on any trade deadline day. 18.
Matt Jones
Yeah, there were a lot of deals. That's not something that, I mean obviously it was the second most. It's not something you don't even really often hear of in fell trade deadline day because these don't, they don't do it like they do in other leagues. But we did have eight and some big names. So besides the jets, what did you think? Well, I know that's your cue. That was your cue to give the next one.
Billy
Yes.
Matt Jones
That's why you have to like when you're a news anchor, the producer will say, okay, give the next one. You have to be ready for that.
Billy
Yeah, here we go. I'm ready. So you know, the Saints are somebody that has a fire cell as well. They traded their receiver Rasheed Saheed to the Seahawks for a fourth and a fifth round pick. The Bears traded for a defensive end Joe Tyron Shoyunka for a sixth round pick in that one. And no, I'm not going to try that one again. But Joe.
Matt Jones
What?
Billy
Joe's going to the Bears.
Matt Jones
Joe who?
Billy
Joe. Joe's going to the Bears. And then the Cowboys weren't done. They got linebacker Logan Wilson from Cincinnati and I also liked Jerry Jones and his secret trade this week. He didn't announce that they were going to get somebody. He just said that they had something in the works.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, it didn't if it. I don't. Doesn't look like it manifest. I don't understand why you would trade for anyone from the Bengals. D defense. It's the worst defense I've ever seen in my life. So I don't. I'm not saying Logan Wilson is worth it or not.
Drew Franklin
The.
Matt Jones
Rasheed Shahid is the, is the big one there with the Seahawks. I think that's another team, Drew, that feels like they can make a move. I don't think you make that deal unless you feel like you can do something this year with Sam Darnold. You know, they lost a couple receivers in the off season. So I think this, I actually really like that deal for the Seahawks and it also shows the NFC is wide open. I think we're going to talk later about the odds for the teams. It's. It's a, it's amazing how many teams that believe they can win it and clearly the Seahawks are one of them.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, Seahawks are kind of like the Colts. I feel like they probably didn't expect to be as good as they are and their quarterback to be having the season that they're having. So they have to go out and see if they can capitalize on what. They struck a little gold here with what they've had so far. So I completely get why they'd go out and do it. Billy didn't add this, but my Titans tried to do a fire sale. We just don't have a lot of things to sell. But we did get rid of Roger McCreary, who was a second round pick a few years ago, but we tried the Jets.
Matt Jones
What did you get for Roger McCreary? Did you get something great, a pick?
Drew Franklin
I mean, he was fine. He was maybe the few assets they had on the entire roster, they could have, they could have dealt big. Jeff Simmons if they really want to do something. He's like the only real asset. But, you know, we just, we're not even good enough to do what the jets are doing. We're at that point right now.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you. That's bad. You're not even good enough to suck, which is a very. That's a difficult position to be in.
Drew Franklin
So I. All those.
Matt Jones
Of all those trades, I think the one that, that ultimately makes the most difference in the end is the Sauce Gardner trade. There might be a game where the Colts have a chance in that sec. You know, maybe you get a play in the secondary. I don't think any of these change the balance of power at all. But it is worth watching on Rasheed Shahid because I do. I think that the NFC is so open. I think the Rams are the betting favorite right now. And if the Rams are the betting favorite, then you cannot discount a Seahawks team where Sam Darnold's looking this good. So I actually think that was also an important move.
Billy
And speaking of the nfc, the Eagles were the other team that tried to get better. They acquired Jalen Phillips defensive end from the Dolphins and Jair Alexander the corner from Baltimore. So they're trying to get they already.
Matt Jones
Had a great defense. Like they just continue to load up. I feel like Jair Alexander's played for 10 teams in the last three years. For a guy that was a lockdown and was part of one team for so long, I like those additions. I think I tend to trust the Eagles GM when they make decision on a defense, especially on defense, it tends to work out.
Drew Franklin
Drew yeah, he even flirted about going around and getting Micah Parsons. The Eagles just need to calm down. Your roster has been good enough. You've won enough drafts in a row. We all see it. I'm getting a little tired of their roster getting better. I'm glad they didn't get too carried away even though they made a few moves.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I still I peeking the nc. I still like them to go back to back Super Bowls. I do think they lose this year. We'll make our picks in a little bit. What's next?
Billy
The Arizona Cardinals have officially named Jacoby Brissette their starting quarterback. Jonathan Gannon went so far to say Berset would be the starter even if Murray was healthy.
Matt Jones
Kyler Murray, that was an amazing thing for him to do. What a brutal sort of knife in the back to Kyler Murray. He's hurt, so there's nothing he like he can't play. So all they had to say was Jacoby Brissette is going to be the starter. But he went farther. He said even if that dude wasn't hurt, we were bitching him. I kind of wonder if Tyler Murray's playing in Arizona again. I mean, after you say that, that is a It was totally unnecessary. I mean, if you really thought about keeping Brissette as your starter, you could have just let him play. And then if he did, well, say we're rolling with this guy. But to explicitly on the way out saying, look, we were going to replace him anyway. For me, that's a signal the Kyler Murray era is ending or has ended in Arizona.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I actually feel kind of bad for Kyler Murray here. He's sitting at home nursing a foot injury playing Call of Duty, not looking at his playbook. Might have the press conference on his background noise.
Matt Jones
Might be looking at his playbook. Give him a break. You don't know if he's looking at his playbook.
Drew Franklin
We don't know if he was if he wasn't. But he's got the press conference on in the background expecting Brissette to be the starter because he's hurt, but that, that the last line was unnecessary. He could just left that out. That could have stayed internal. He just like even if he was healthy, absolutely no way are we going back to that. So yeah, I think that is the end that, that seemed like he was sending a message that Kyler just can't get it done here.
Matt Jones
I mean that's. It is a, it's a really amazing thing to do. It's like honey, I'm going on vacation, but even if I was here, I wouldn't want to see you this week. It's a strong statement. Is do you think Kyler Murray's days in Arizona after a comment like that, not just the comment but also his play, do you think they're done?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I think so. He said plenty of, plenty of opportunities to turn them into something. What has he been there like seven seasons? It just, just feels like he's never going to take that next level as a quarter, that next step as a quarterback.
Matt Jones
Well, my memories of Kyler Murray are always late game, fourth quarter, him running around, barely holding on to the ball, trying to make a comeback that ends up falling short. So I can see why they would move on. I will say I thought he was going to ultimately be better than he ended up being, but I do think it's over. I don't think a coach can say that. And then when he gets healthy again, it's an obvious transition.
Drew Franklin

The Seahawks beat the Command on Sunday Night Football 38 to 14. But during the game the Seahawks debuted a new kickoff package. So the the they had two 300 pound defensive linemen on the field up the middle to stop the kick return. The first time they did it they forced a fumble and the second time they did it seemed to work pretty well. Seems like they have a new strategy to stop kickoff returns in the NFL.
Matt Jones
So remind so explain to me what this is. You wrote that when you say a two defensive lineman, what do you mean?
Billy
So like in the new kickoff you have players that are standing until the ball is caught and then they run after the guy that has the ball. Well, now Seattle is putting 300 pound defensive linemen in the middle of the field as two of the guys that are going to try to tackle the ball carrier.
Drew Franklin
And that works the linemen. When we're running full speed down the field on a kickoff. Now you're only running 10 or 15 yards, but it was funny seeing two 300 pounders on a kickoff.
Matt Jones
Well, if it worked. I mean, I still think with that, with the, with the new kickoff, there are still strategies to be found, Drew, that we probably don't know what they are yet. You know, I mean, think about just regular football plays, people that there are new nuances like the tush push that come and this new kickoff rule has only really existed for a short period. So I think with the new kickoff rule, Drew, there are a lot of nuances still to be found, you know, in regular plays. We footballs existed for so long and they're still finding things like the tush push, et cetera. The new kickoff rule, it's brand new, so there are ways to probably game it. It's just a matter of figuring out what it is. I like teams trying to see what works. I saw a stat today that 80% of kickoffs are now being returned that to me makes it good. I know President Trump is always ranting about how much he hates the kickoff rule, but I'm a huge advocate. I mean, it has made a big difference in games. At the Bears Bengals game, I went to the opening kickoff, was run back a couple of kickoffs. In the, in the interim, got to the 50. It made a big difference. So I like it. And I think teams are going to have to continue to figure out though how they game it.
Drew Franklin
I've liked it a lot too. It took a while, took a while getting used to it obviously because it was such a big change. But when you had a big change like that, you see the innovation and people trying things and I love that Seattle tried this and it actually worked, leading to a forced fumble. Now I think eventually maybe teams will see this and they'll get a little more speed and you can just avoid the big guys. But what they're trying to do is now the space is so much more limited. They put the big guys in there and both of them just blew through a blocker and completely blew up the entire return scheme. So it at least worked once. But now I think we'll see the return side react to this. And it'll just be a give and take until it all settles in.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, but that's what it's supposed to be, right? It's supposed to add. I mean, here's what I know. Didn't work where you kicked it. And I think last year, what, 6% were returned or something. That was not interesting. So this is a lot better than that. I'll take it. And I actually think it goes really well. And I like the Colts for. They're doing the old hockey goalie thing. Why don't you just put a big fat guy in the hockey goal and then people won't score. They're like, let's just put big fat guys in the center of the field on the kickoff. And then it won't work.
Drew Franklin
If you are the kick returner, though, it's a little different. Looking up, and there's defensive linemen running at you with £300 on them and a cornerback coming down the field. I wonder what kind of headspace that puts them in, knowing that they could get broken in half if one of these guys caught him at full speed.
Matt Jones
It's different. But you know what? That'll make them be careful what they do. You do have to be careful. You might get. You might get. You might get knocked to the ground. So I'm. I'm all right with it for everybody. What's next?
Billy
Let's talk a little Meow Mix, the Carolina Panthers podcast that decided to step away earlier this year. And ever since then, the only Carolina only thing they've done is win. They are 5 and 4 on the year. They beat the Packers 16 to 13 last week. And right after the game, Meow Mix announced that they were going to be coming back. But the next day, they released a statement saying, even though we plan to record last week before the results against Green Bay, we won't be recording due to the overwhelming response from former players. We were just a small, Fun podcast since 2019 and needed a break from all the time we spent putting the show on. One of those former players, I believe, was Jonathan Stewart, who said woke up with his Heavy On My Heart Meow Mix podcast. Please stay where y' all at. Be a team player.
Matt Jones
All right. I feel bad for Meow Mix. We've been following the Meow Mix story all year. I feel bad for.
Drew Franklin
For.
Matt Jones
All right, so they quit. Then the moment they quit, the Panthers get good. So then they want to come back and they get a huge round of people going. Yes. But then they have people saying, if you come back now you're a jinx. And it would. It would stink if you had players who you used to follow coming out and saying, stay away. So I feel like Meow Mix can't win for losing. They were. They were not popular, which caused them to quit. Their decision to stop doing it gets a lot of attention to where they're popular. So they're like, we're popular. Let's do a podcast. And now they have to not do it again because people are saying, stay away. I feel like Meow Mix can't do anything right. I'm sad for Meow Mix.
Drew Franklin
I think Meow Mix needs to recognize that they're responsible for the Chargers going on this win streak. And sure, I'm sure they'd prefer to be putting out episodes and talking about it, but the sacrifice they made has worked and they just have to stick with it now. Could they maybe put out a T shirt or something? There's gotta be ways Meow Mix can benefit a little bit, but just from they quit because they weren't popular. But now I have said Meow Mix a thousand times in the last four weeks, and everyone else has, so it's working.
Matt Jones
They can't take advantage of it. They're literally getting yelled at by the general public saying, stay away. It is one of the saddest things to me in the world. You do this podcast out of love. Something happens where you break through, and finally, a Panthers podcast. I can't even imagine the scenario where I would listen to a Panthers podcast. I now want to hear a Panthers podcast. And then Jonathan Stewart's like, stay away, Meow Mix. Get out of here. Get your crap out. It's the word. I feel bad for him, and I'd like to have them on the show, but they're too big. They don't even answer our messages. We try to get Meow Mix on. They're not having it, so. But it's a crazy situation. And you're right. They. They. They're not going to be able to take advantage of all this attention. So I feel bad for Meow Mix. And how would you like to be a fan of a team where the former players are saying, get out of here. That's got to also kind of hurt your pride, right?
Drew Franklin
For. For some reason, something about it. There's former players, because it's not like you think of legends. It's not like you're like cowboys. Former players speak out against cowboys. I have, like, Jake Delome and Kerry.
Matt Jones
Collins in my brain right now. Does Jonathan Stewart count As a legend. Like, he's not even the most famous guy named Jon Stewart. Like, does he get. Does he get to count as a legend in determining this?
Drew Franklin
I think Greg Olsen, Cam Newton, I think those are your legends. The other guys, I mean, great former players. But when I heard former players speaking out, I thought Panthers, like Louie, then.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Greg Olson, Cam, maybe even Jake Delome. I don't know if Jonathan Stewart gets to do it. I'm not sure he gets to, but apparently he did. And now Meow Mix is waiting to get on the side. But, you know, for every fall, there will be a return. And when Meow Mix comes out, they will have one listener in me, Billy Carolina.
Billy
4 and 1 since Meow Mix canceled the podcast.
Matt Jones
So that's unbelievable.
Billy
I can understand that.
Drew Franklin
Hurts me.
Matt Jones
That even hurts me. Like, they, they, they couldn't get good until they quit. It's sad story, but couldn't they just.
Drew Franklin
Like, imagine they just set up a tailgate and says, meow Mix, we're not doing a podcast. We're not recording, but we're just tailgating. They would be the most popular people outside the stadium at a home game. They got other, other avenues.
Matt Jones
Like, I have in my mind, I have in my mind what I think they look like. I. Here's what I, I think they look like. And I. Because I've never seen their picture. I think they look like two accountants who put on, like, cat ears and sit and go. And then go, meow. And then talk about the. And talk about the Panthers. That's. That's how I like to picture them. How do you like to picture them?
Drew Franklin
I picture them as, like, actual cat ladies. They're probably wearing a very old sweater from, like, the 80s. And there's, you know, there's like those cat play pins that people put.
Matt Jones
Like, you're picturing them like NPR hosts, but they're talking about the Panthers.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, definitely. Definitely seeing cat ladies or, like, furries. I don't know if furries are still a thing.
Matt Jones
Come on, now. They're not. Don't do that. Don't do that to them.
Drew Franklin
I'm just telling you what I picture when I hear Meow Mix.
Matt Jones
Okay?
Drew Franklin
That's what, that's the visual I'm getting.
Matt Jones
Don't make them a litter box in elementary schools. Come on. They're. They're, they're not, they're not like that.
Drew Franklin
They have strange. An NFL franchise. They are big time. I'm not trying to degrade.
Matt Jones
They are. They are respectable Panthers fans. What's next?
Billy
Billy, after the Rams beat the Saints 34 to 10 last week and advanced to 6 and 2 on the season, they are now the betting favorite to be the number one seed in the NFC. The Rams are at plus 320. The Eagles are at plus 350, the Seahawks at plus 475, and the Bucks at plus 500.
Matt Jones
What'd you say?
Billy
I can get the Eagles for plus 350 right now.
Matt Jones
See, I think that's a great bet. I mean, I still think the Eagles are the favorite.
Drew Franklin
It.
Matt Jones
I'm surprised. The Rams. I mean, I like the Rams. I think I picked the Rams in the preseason. So. But I think I picked the rams was like plus 650. And so I have a Rams plus 650 ticket. But if I was going to hedge now, I would go ahead and take a plus 350 Eagles ticket. Now I've got two shots at it each for high number, so I really like that, you know, but it is. This is the most open. The Lions, I think, still have a shot, even though they did not play well against Minnesota. I still think Tampa can do it. I mean, this. This is the most open the NFC's been and maybe the most open the whole league has been for a Super bowl in a long time, actually.
Drew Franklin
Maybe. You said it, but did you mention the Lions? Because I. That to me.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I did.
Drew Franklin
No, no, Billy. No, no, Billy.
Matt Jones
When.
Drew Franklin
When he was reading the odds.
Billy
So after four, it's packers at plus 700, and then the Lions at plus 7. 50, and then the next are great.
Drew Franklin
That's crazy to me.
Matt Jones
That's crazy to me. The lines are plus 750. I mean, that's. That's. I think those are all like that. I think +7.50. Drew is a great bet.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Well, when he read off the teams, I was kind of waiting to see where the Lions would fit in the pecking order. We didn't say it. I thought, well, how far down are they? You know, I don't think they would win the conference, taking that loss last weekend. But at +7.50, that doesn't seem like it lines up to me. Yeah.
Billy
And on the flip side, in the AFC, the Bills are the heavy favor at plus 150. The Colts are at plus 3. 30. And then two teams find themselves at plus 450. The Patriots and the Broncos.
Matt Jones
What are the Chiefs.
Billy
The Chiefs are plus 1600.
Matt Jones
No, they're not. Are you talking about to be the one seed or to go to the Super Bowl?
Billy
The one seed of the afc.
Matt Jones
Okay, okay. Well, that's a different conversation. I'm. I thought you were talking about for the Super Bowl. All right. Yes, they're not. Chiefs are not going to be the one seed. And yeah, probably the Lions aren't either. Okay, so that's a different conversation. I still like the Eagles, though, to be the 1 seed. I still would like that bad at +3.50. But yeah, all right, different conversation. Sorry, I didn't understand.
Billy
Bowl. KC is the favorite at plus 600 along with Buffalo. Then you have the Rams at plus 800, the Eagles at plus 900, and the Colts and Lions at plus 950.
Matt Jones
That is amazing. So the Chiefs are plus 1600 to get the 1 seed, but still the favorite to win the super bowl, which shows you just how much people Drew believe in bad at Mahomes when it comes to the postseason.
Drew Franklin
And that Owen or excuse me, 4 and O stat against the Bills, the other favorite right now. And you know, we just saw it added to the narrative with the Bills winning the regular season a fifth time.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's a, that's a fascinating. That's got to be one of the more fascinating set of numbers back and forth that, that we've had in a long time.
Drew Franklin
Foreign.
Billy
Some of the bigger injuries from week nine in the NFL. Tucker Kraft tore his ACL and he is now out for the year. Joe Alt, the lineman for the Chargers had a high ankle sprain and he is now out for the season. And Jaden Daniels got injured at the end of that Sunday night football game. People questioning why he was still in the game at that point of the blowout.
Matt Jones
Shouldn't have been in. Shouldn't be in. I give Dan Quinn credit for coming out afterwards and saying he shouldn't have been in. I mean, it doesn't do him a lot of good because he's now out for the year, most likely. And the commanders were probably done either way, but he shouldn't have been in. But I do like Drew that he came out and took responsibility. A lot of coaches don't do that. They say we play. I actually gained some respect for him for just acknowledging that was mistake.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, most coaches, they're not looking in the mirror and taking the blame for something, especially something that's significant like that. I think it's very rare to hear a coach be like I should not have had him in the game. A lot of times you'll get an excuse of why they were in or whatever. But that was big on him to fess up and take the mistake because that's That's a big setback for Jaden Daniels in his second year.
Matt Jones
You know, the Joe Alt one, I mean, that's probably the one that's the least sexy name. But he's been. If you go through the last few years when he's been healthy, the Chargers have played well. And when he's not, they haven't. I think that is a big loss for them, as is Tucker Kraft. I mean, all three of those injuries. When it comes to the playoffs, though, Joe Alt might be even bigger than Jaden Daniels and Kraft is Jayden Daniels because the Washington wasn't going to make it. So the Joe Alt injury is a big deal, especially considering how well Justin Herbs played. That one's going to be. And the Chargers offensive line has let him down at the end of these seasons. I kind of wonder if that's about to happen again.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
All right. Is that your entire news?
Billy
I got one more. It's. It's more of like a personal thing here. The Bengals.
Matt Jones
Personal to you?
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Billy
It's a crusade of mine this year in the NFL. The Bengals. The Bengals special teams coordinator said.
Matt Jones
What team are you talking about?
Billy
The Bengals said that their. Their special team coordinator had a press conference and he said that Evan McPherson's 54 yard field goal that came up short was with a quarterback ball, not a kicker ball. Because the field goal unit came on after the play clock started. The kicking team had to use the quarterback ball, confirming our theory that these balls are different. The kickers are kicking.
Matt Jones
I was at that game when he came up short, I thought to myself, I had this exact thought that had to be the other ball. Had to. Because. And I'm going to say again, the NFL has to stop letting them do this.
Drew Franklin
This.
Matt Jones
They can't. This moving from kicker ball to regular ball to me is a huge mistake because in the moment, the fans and other team may not even know. Right. So if you're the defense, you might choose to put on a field goal block or not based on whether or not it's the kicker ball or the quarterback ball. So I. When a 54 yard field goal in the NFL comes up short, my initial inclination is going to be. And the Bears had one, too. The Bears had one at the end of regulation that I think was also. And it was Cairo Santo and he left it short. I think in both circumstances it was because it was the other ball. They got to get rid of that. Drew, you got to have. There's got to be. It's like one ring in Lord of the Rings, you got to have one ball for all and then let it be whatever it is.
Drew Franklin
Kind of reminds me of the college basketball debate. When they get to the tournament, that one's bouncing all out of control. They have different turnovers. It's like just, just one ball. Like, use the ball. Everyone use the same type of ball.
Matt Jones
You don't get to do that. You don't get to, on match point, bring in a special tennis serve ball. Like you got to use the same ball the entire time.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they, they used to make golf balls that were illegal. You could hit them a lot farther. You know, Tiger woods and not there switching them out of his pocket when he's in a tournament or anything. Now, I did have one other takeaway though, from Evan McPherson. I think he was just trying to defend his coach because people are a little mad that they didn't get the kicking ball out. It was the Bengals uncertainty that led to this, but Evan McPherson said, no, it was a good kick. I give it like a seven out of ten. My thought is, dude, you're an NFL kicker. Seven out of ten isn't really something. I would confess that's not that good of an effort. There are probably a lot of people that can give a 7 out of 10 kick. But that was his reasoning for why I left it short. I hope he was just taking one.
Matt Jones
For this is me. I don't think kicking is on a 1 to 10 scale. You either make it or you don't. Like I don't think like, you know, seven out of ten. You came up short on a 54 yarder. What's a five out of ten? You just kick it 30 yards. Like, you got to make it or you don't. I am. This is going to be my crusade in the offseason. Get rid of the other ball. You do not. You don't get to engulf take when you're on the green. Okay, I'm going to put a tennis ball instead of a golf ball on it. You don't get a different thing. I'm very adamantly against this other ball. If you want to have the kicker ball be the regular ball, then do that. But Billy, you're with me on this.
Billy
I'm with you 1000%. This should be our off season crusade. No doubt.
Matt Jones
Yes, well, it will be. Expect to see me storm the off. I'm going to pick it outside of the NFL offices and I'm going to say, make balls equal again. That's all my sign is going to say. And people may not know What I mean, but I'm going to do it either way.
Drew Franklin
Way.
Matt Jones
All right, let's talk about the games this week. First of all, on Thursday night, you get Raiders and Broncos. Raiders are two and six. The Broncos are seven and two. The Broncos are a nine and a half point favorite on Thursday night. Two west coast teams. As a sports bar owner, I just sit and see Raiders, Broncos on Thursday night and go, well, our bar will be empty for this one. But are there reasons to want to watch it on Thursday night? Beyond. Beyond the fact it's just football?
Drew Franklin
Oh, I'm trying to think of good reasons. You know, this traditionally has been a good rivalry, but the Raiders are not good this year. They beat the Patriots in the first game of the season, and it's just been all bad ever since. I'll be tuned in because, you know, we're NFL cover zero. We have to cover this stuff. But it is not a marquee matchup for your prime time time slot. And that's on the Raiders. And they got to be better.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, they're going to Bo. Nick's got a chance to go 8 and 2. I'm still not sure. I think they're good. To be quite frank with you, they should have lost the game against the Giants. I mean, they probably should be like 5 and 4 and they're going to. They'll be 8 and 2 after this game. You look at their schedule, they got a bunch of winnable games. I mean, they're actually in contention for the one seed. And they are a team where home field advantage can make a big, big difference because of the altitude. And, you know, everyone says players get tired when they're there. I don't know if. I don't know if I always believe that either. But regardless, they'll win this one Thursday night on the road for Vegas. You know, Pete Carroll will be asleep by halftime, so I think there's. I think there's a good chance, you know, seven o', clock, he'll already have been to show me back when it's. When it's open.
Drew Franklin
Foreign.
Matt Jones
Bundle presented by Liberty Mutual. We picked three games that are picks of the week. By the way, we won this last week. So if you're following at home, and I hope you all are, you will be winning money. I'm sitting here looking at this. It's a tough schedule because for obvious reasons, a lot of these games are, you know, close. A lot of these teams are very closely matched. I. I think I'm gonna go with, boy, this is it looking at these. I don't love any of these, but I think I'm going to do.
Drew Franklin
I.
Matt Jones
Think I'm going to do the Bucks to cover the two and a half. All right and win against the Patriots. Drake May's been great, but they've been blessed with an easy schedule. The Bucks are at home. So give me Tampa Bay as the first of our Liberty Mutual victory bundle. What about you Drew?
Drew Franklin
I was worried you were going to take mine. There's a new wide receiver in the NFL that burst onto the scene last week and his name is Caleb Williams and I think the Bears hosting the Giants are going to show off more of that flashy offense. They're still riding high from that Loveland touchdown catch that you were there for. Giants are going the other way. Losing Cam Scatter Boo killed any motor momentum and swag that that team has. So I like your Bears at home against a Giants team going the wrong direction.
Matt Jones
I've been through this a lot over the years. You get a big win and then you come back and you lose a bad game right after it. So I'm a little concerned about one. But I like your I like your hope, I like your desire, and I like your optimism. So I will go ahead and take it. I'm gonna say I think for my next one I'm actually gonna do a rare under. Are you ready for a rare under? We're gonna take Bucks to cover, you're taking Bears to cover and I'm gonna do the lions and commanders 49 and a half. I'm gonna go under. Marcus Mariota is going to be starting for the Commanders. I think the only chance the Commanders have to win is to keep the game slow and try to win it in kind of a ground and pound. Also, I believe the weather is supposed to be really bad there in Washington. I'm keeping track of all weather related items for the NFL this week so I will take Lions and Commanders under. So you throw those together and that will be your victory bundle presented by Liberty Mutual. Start your quote at Liberty Mutual. Let's look at some of the other games not worrying so much about against the spread, etc. Jets and Browns, who's the worst? Who you got? Jets lose all their defense. Do you say Cleveland goes and gets the win?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, Cleveland's getting this one. Jets, I'm glad you got a bunch of draft picks. Enjoy taking the rest of the year off until the draft next spring. You're not winning another game. So brown stake this one.
Matt Jones
Rams and 49ers could be for the one seed or excuse me, could be for the NFC west and a contender for the 1 seed 49ers schedule. If they win this one even though they're 6 and 3, things look really good. Rams are 4 1/2 point favorite. Do you like. It's a late game on Fox. Probably will be the centerpiece game of that slot. Who do you like?
Drew Franklin
Kind of want to do the upset. They're not. Purdy's not back. Right. Not that that would matter that much because those two seem like be the identical quarterbacks. I'm going to say the rams. But that +4 and A is a little high for me on a 49ers team that I don't even like. I just feel like that spreads pretty big. But I'm going to tiptoe into a Rams pick.
Matt Jones
I think the Rams. This, this entire season the Rams games have seemed sort of oddly anonymous to me. I don't really remember much about any of them. I think this is a huge one for them. They are set up as Billy showcased with the odds to get the one seed. I think if they win this game they got a really good chance these teams will play again. But they' in la. So I like the Rams to win the game and I think it's a, it's a good opportunity for them. You know it's not. The Rams have a great home field but the biggest thing is that they don't have to go to a home field. If they don't have to go to Philadelphia, they don't have to go to Detroit, they don't have to go to Green Bay. I think he gives them a lot better shot Sunday nights. The Steelers in the Chargers. Aaron Rodgers as he bounced back here and get a win. They still are sitting five and three. I mean the embarrassing loss of the packers notwithstanding, beat the Colts. Can he get one in la Here.
Drew Franklin
I've been a big Chargers believer, but Justin Herbert just keeps getting absolutely pummeled in that, in that backfield. I'm going to trust them though. They went and they made a last minute trade to replace Joe Alt. We'll see if that works. But I'm going to believe in the Chargers just a little bit longer. But they're going to get him killed if they don't fix that offensive line.
Matt Jones
This just feels like a game where Aaron Rodgers frustrates me and gets the win. It's Sunday Night Football. We're going to get to hear some Collinsworth moaning. I mean these are two of his favorites, right? It's kind of his OG Aaron Rodgers and his new school Aaron Rodgers with Justin Herbert. He loves the way both those guys play. We're going to get some Madison beer. We're probably going to get whatever new Aaron Rodgers will say that with the LA media. I'm sure he'll say something about redistricting or something. Something just to get everybody angry. So this feels like one where he gets it. So I'm going to take the Chargers then. Monday Night Football Eagles, Packers. This is maybe the best Monday night game remaining on the schedule this year. Packers take an embarrassing loss last week at home to the Panthers. Do they bounce back? This is the kind of game where I feel like if the packers are going to be a team that I care about in terms of contending, I think they need to work win it.
Drew Franklin
I'm taking the Eagles. I know it's a tough place to play. Heck, the packers probably won't even be wearing green and yellow. They'll probably find a new alternate uniform that we won't even recognize be halftime before we realize it's the packers that are playing. But I'm going to go with the Eagles. I know they had that two game skid a few weeks ago but they've corrected things since the offense is more balanced. AJ Brown's not sub tweeting anymore. I think the Eagles have figured it out and they'll win this one.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Anytime you don't have AJ Brown sub tweeting. That's good. I'm shocked. I mean I'm shocked. The packers are the foul favorite. Packers are two and a half point favorite. I I it's a little surprising to me isn't it? You, you lose at home to the Panthers and then you are the and I think it opened maybe at Eagles being the favorite. The money has all been on the Packers.
Drew Franklin
Let me go ahead and get that bed in now before the weekend crowd gets there and bets it moves the line a little bit. Cause I agree that's I like the Eagles here and if you're going to give me points I'll jump on that.
Matt Jones
Two and a half. I think it opened with the I think it opened with the Eagles being a one and a half point favorite and it is already flipped to packers two and a half so of early money that it just surprises me especially you know I still think the Eagles have the most talent. They just made these, this trade couple trades. I, I like them. I'm, I'm a little bit surprised by that now. Billy. It is. We got to do our Survivor pool. I'm sitting here. The amount of attempting to try to understand my handwriting has gone away. But I'm going to read you who I think you've picked.
Billy
I have it right.
Matt Jones
I think you. I think you've picked the Patriots, the Jaguars, the Cardinals, the Bills, the Chargers, the Colts and the Chiefs. You get to pick first. You and I are the only two left. Now the game that seems the most obvious is Bill's Dolphins, but you don't get to pick the Bills. So who are you going to take in the survivor league?
Billy
I'm going with the Seahawks over the Cardinals. Jacoby Brissette may be the starter, but he's not getting it done here. We are going to advance and move on with Seattle and Sam Darnold.
Matt Jones
Boy, I think it's a nerd. That would be a nerve wracking pick for me on paper at home. But the Cardinals just, they find a way sometimes in these games.
Billy
Divisional opponent, I try to stay away from, but I try to stay away from that too.
Matt Jones
Although with my pick, I mean, I feel like I don't have a choice. I think I have to pick the Bills. I've not picked them yet. They get the Dolphins. It is on the road. And if you look historically, the Bills have had some weird problems with this game in Miami, including when Miami's not been good. If you remember, Tom Brady did the same thing. He used to have problems against the Dolphins on the road even when they weren't good. I'm not sure why that is the case, but. But I'm going to go with the. I'm going to go with the Bills and so we'll see if we continue to go on the survival. Do we know what percentage of people are still left in their various survivor Leagues around? Because you and I continue to remain in this one while Drew sits anonymously and not is.
Billy
Yeah, I'm not sure. A number on most leagues, but you know, Drew's been out a while at this point. I mean, he could have started a whole nother game and gotten eliminated again.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's kind of embarrassing how bad Drew's done, if you think about it.
Drew Franklin
No, no, no. I just get to sit here and sit back and watch you all do this segment. I'm enjoying listening.
Matt Jones
You don't have to work at all during it. You could just do. I'm trying. You look at the other choices. The thing is all these games are even. I mean, I guess you could take the Broncos against the Raiders on Thursday.
Billy
Night Football or Carolina against the Saints. I mean, I'm all in.
Matt Jones
I would never. I would never take Carolina against the Saints.
Billy
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, the Saints. The Saints are going to win one of these games against the NFC South. The Saints are going to beat either the Panthers and the Falcons in the coming weeks. It just depends on which one it is. Now we also have to do our. Our touchdown pool. I'm leading four to three to one right now and it looks like, Billy, you do get to pick first in this one as. So what are you going to take?
Billy
Okay. You know, I took a lot of heat talking about JJ McCarthy last week. I am going to be a believer this week. I'm going to say Justin Jefferson scores a touchdown. He's only had two all year. I think he's going to revert back to the mean a little bit. I think he gets a touchdown and JJ McCarthy has a big day.
Matt Jones
Only two all year. Pick him right here.
Billy
Let's do it.
Matt Jones
Wow. I do like your confidence in all these things. You stick with it and you go with even, odd like players on all of them. So that means I got to go with the quarterback or. Or wide receiver. You know, I've generally enjoyed picking quarterbacks. I've picked almost all of them. So let me look here and see. I'm going to take one where I think somebody's going to score a lot of points.
Drew Franklin
So.
Matt Jones
Well, I'm going to take a running back. I guess if I picked Jonathan Taylor. No, I have. So I'll take B. John Robinson. I think it'd be John Robinson. Store scores. They're going to Berlin. Feels like he will use this as a chance to score a touchdown in Berlin and get his German flair going. So give me Bijan Robinson. Which leaves Drew. You have to pick a quarterback. Who do you want?
Drew Franklin
I think I've only done a quarterback once before. Did I do Josh Allen? Have I used hurts yet? That's why I'm asking you.
Matt Jones
It looks like you have picked hearts but you have not picked Josh. Josh Allen.
Drew Franklin
Okay, got him backwards then. I will do Josh Allen. I think. Yeah, those are the top two options here. I'll go with Josh Allen.
Billy
I think you guys would be surprised at who the leading rusher is at the quarterback position this year. It's Justin Herbert. He has 305 rushing yards this year.
Matt Jones
Is that right?
Drew Franklin
Because he's running for his life.
Billy
Yes.
Matt Jones
That really is a surprise. I wonder what odds you could have gotten on Justin Herbert being the leading rusher in. In football at the beginning of the year for a quarter quarterback. You would not have. You could have gotten a great price on that. So you got Josh Allen. I'm taking B. John Robinson and Justin Jefferson. That may not look great numbers wise, but I actually think that's a parlay that could hit. We haven't gotten one yet where we've all hit, have we Billy?
Billy
Not one. I mean Drew's only picked one correct touchdown score.
Matt Jones
So it's true. So that that hurts us the fact that Drew is only only picked one. Well guys, thank you all very much. I'm looking to forward forward to the weekend and all the games. I hope everybody congrats Drew on keeping all of your Titans best players so that you oh and we have a.
Drew Franklin
By week so we're not losing. Big week for the Titans.
Matt Jones
I'll give it. This is a win winning week for you.
Drew Franklin
This is crazy.
Matt Jones
I might have a. I love it. All right, we will see you guys later. It's been NFL covers you.
