Last week's unanimous vote against the ordinance closes the door on legally living in RVs in Nevada County, at least for now.

California currently ranks 33rd nationally when it comes to per capita investment in its state arts agency. In late June, Governor Gavin Newsom signed off on a new state budget for the 2026/2027 Fiscal Year. That budget doesn't include funding for California cultural districts. Nevada County has two cultural districts - Grass Valley and Nevada City - a rare feat for a rural county. Nevada County Arts and Culture, an arts service organization tasked with supporting local arts and artists, has launched a Cultural District Resilience Fund to limit the impact of this lack in state funding. As of 6 a.m. this morning, the Combie Fire has burning 17 acres and is 20% contained.After an extensive investigation, 30-year-old Jacob Williams Hoskins of Sonora was arresting in for allegedly causing the Dove Fire. The Dove Fire burned approximately 223 acres of vegetation in the greater downtown area of Sonora on July 26. The Dove Fire is currently 55% contained.

The Lava Cap Mine operated for more than 80 years and is currently on the EPA’s National Priorities List. Its current owner is trying get it designated a National Historic Landmark. Learn more about the site clean up on the EPA's website.

The Chute Fire which started on July 13th and then flared back up on the 20th, is as of Sunday afternoon, 70% contained.

The Chute fire burning in a Yuba River drainage area near the community of Dobbins in Yuba County flared up on Monday after being knocked down a week ago.Nevada County Elections has assigned Measure M to the Pleasant Ridge Union School District bond measure for the Nov. 3, 2026 General Election ballot.

Grass Valley has been granted a total of $467,500 to directly assist first time homebuyers with down payments and closing costs. The money comes from the Home Investment Partnerships Program, part of California's Department of Housing and Community Development.
