Michael Popak
Well, apparently Congressman Al Green, who was dragged from the House when he shouted you don't have a mandate to cut Medicaid, was right because we have a new report by the Congressional Budget Office, which is a nonpartisan independent group that evaluates budget issues for Congress that has told maga, Congress and Trump in no uncertain terms that they'll Never reach their $1.3 trillion budget cut number to pay for Donald Trump's 10 tax cuts for the wealthy and his deportation program for immigration without cutting into Medicare, Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance program. There's just no way to do it. And we know there's no mandate for the American people and the poorest of Americans, mainly in red states, to give up their Medicaid and Medicare. That that gives them dignity concerning their health care decisions. I'm Michael Popak. You are on Midas Touch Network and Illegal af. Let's get to the bottom of it Donald Trump is trying to lead Congress into approving a $1.5 trillion budget cut of existing services among all of the various branches of government, meaning hardest hit would be those that are under the Commerce Department and the Energy Department. The problem is there's not enough spending or budget items under those two departments to come anywhere close to the $1.5 trillion he apparently needs. Trump in order to pay for his immigration program and for his tax cuts for the wealthy. We know the answer. He shouldn't be giving tax cuts to the wealthy. He certainly shouldn't put it an additional burden and tax on our poorest and most disadvantaged Americans as a result. So Frank Palone, who I know well, he's a congressperson from my particular hometown, where I grew up in New Jersey. Frank Palone is the ranking Democrat on both the Energy and Commerce committees or the committee that was responsible for it. And he had the, the Congressional Budget Office, the cbo, do its own independent analysis. This is different than the man, the Office of Management, the Congressional Office of Management and Budget, that's led by the, the rightest of right wing. Russ Vaught, who was one of the fathers of Project 2025. This is the Office of Management and Budget. And they said you had a couple of problems with your math. Your math doesn't work. That under Commerce and Energy, they've been ordered to cut $880 billion from their programs, but there's only $330 billion under their auspices. So where are you gonna get the other 500 billion from? It's missing. Mike Johnson likes to look the American people in the eye and lie to them and say, we'll just get rid of fraud and waste and we'll tighten up eligibility so that people can't get into these programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Children's Health Insurance Program. Universal bipartisan support, by the way, all Democratic programs that support, in many instances, red state, rural and poor America. 70 million people, 70 million people rely on Medicaid alone for their health insurance. And, and more than that, hundreds of millions of people, you know, 65 or 62 and older rely on Medicare. And I haven't even talked about one of the ways that the Biden and Obama administration took children out of poverty was to give them health care and to lower infant mortality rates as a result. So the math doesn't add up, which means the only way they could ever reach. When you're, when you're missing a billion dollars, a trillion dollars or close to it, what do you start looking at? Medicare, Medicaid Social Security. That's why they dragged the guy with a cane out, who was, who was speaking the truth at the joint session of Congress. That's why they dragged him out, because he was talking truth to power. You know, that's the, that is the dirty little secret of the Trump administration. They talk about we're going to have a brighter future. We're going to build a bridge to a new economy. It's going to be driven by AI and Bitcoin and Elon Musk and all. We're going to bring Internet by satellite to rural America. None of that's going to happen. And if they do it, it's going to, it's going to make the poor poorer and the rural more rural in America. And that mainly means red states. That's why, you know, there are red state voters who want their vote back. And now you can see why. Because the failed. Already 46, 47 days into the administration, the failed policies of Donald Trump are not falling equally on the blue states, on the red states. It's mainly hurting the red states. When he fires veterans and Veterans affairs people, you know, 60,000, 10,000 here and there, undermining our support for veterans in every way, shape and form. That falls disproportionately on red states as well, because a lot of veterans retire to or live in red states. Donald Trump doesn't care. He's a phony populist. He's not a populist. He's a maga capitalist. That all he cares about, in a Darwinian fashion, is the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Right. And the strong survive and the weak die. There's no other way to put it. So now what's Mike Johnson going to do? You can't, I mean, you're going to fudge the numbers. I get that the Commerce Department and the Energy Department were charged with trying to find $880 billion to cut, but how can they do that if there's only 500, $330 billion underneath their administration? So the Democrats are doing their part, right, to ensure that America gets transparent information about this. The tax cuts, if they are approved, will be off the back of the poorest and middle class Americans. There's no way around it. And what they're going to hope for is if they give the tax cut, there'll be more investment and more jobs. We already have a booming job creation market that Donald Trump inherited from Joe Biden. It was already, it was already cranking. It was already fixed. Now it's broken. Now it's broken. And I guess the takeaway from this particular hot take is your Medicare, your Medicaid, your, your health insurance for children is not safe. And you need to go to these town halls, all those town halls that the Republicans are canceling under orders from their leadership. Do a Facebook live, do a telehaul. Don't, don't actually go and meet your constituents. You cowards. You cowards. You work for them. You work for us. You work for the people in the room in that town hall. You're supposed to stand there and listen to good and welfare from these people about what they want you to accomplish in your time in Washington. That's why congresspeople have two year terms that make them really responsive and accountable to the American people. And you're running away and you're hiding in Washington. How do you, and how do you, and how do you punish them for that? You throw the bastards out at the next election. All of Congress. Throw all the House out with ours next to their name at the next election. I'm going to tell you who's not dodging town halls. Democrats. I never thought I'd see the day that a Republican would so quickly unite the Democrats, unite the Democrats in all their wings to help the American people. Listen to me. There's only one way for Donald Trump to give tax cuts to the wealthy and to deport through the military and other ways, the millions of people chasing them through churches and hospitals. Only one way to do it and that's looking at your Medicare, my Medicare, your Medicaid and your Social Security and disability payments. There's no other way around it. There's not enough fraud in and waste in the American government. That was what the inspectors generals were for that Donald Trump fired. They were supposed to root out fraud and waste and they were doing that. So in other words, there's not that much change left in the couch to go searching through. That's always been the problem with this magical thinking math of Donald Trump. I'm going to continue to follow it all right here on the Midas Touch Network and on Legal AF. Podcast Summary: "Trump’s Fake Numbers Are Quickly Backfiring in His Face"
Legal AF by MeidasTouch
Release Date: March 7, 2025
Introduction
In the March 7, 2025 episode of Legal AF, hosted by the MeidasTouch Network, Michael Popak delves into the financial maneuvers of former President Donald Trump, particularly focusing on the repercussions of his proposed budget cuts. This detailed analysis examines the feasibility of Trump's $1.3 trillion budget reduction plan, its impact on vital social programs, and the broader political implications for red states and disadvantaged Americans.
Congressional Budget Office Report and Trump's Budget Cuts
Michael Popak opens the discussion by referencing a critical report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), a respected nonpartisan organization responsible for evaluating budgetary issues for Congress. The report starkly contrasts with the ambitions of Trump and the MAGA Congress, indicating that achieving a $1.3 trillion budget cut is implausible without severely impacting essential programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
"We have a new report by the Congressional Budget Office... they’ll never reach their $1.3 trillion budget cut number to pay for Donald Trump's 10 tax cuts for the wealthy and his deportation program for immigration without cutting into Medicare, Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance program." [01:53]
Popak emphasizes that the CBO's findings underscore the lack of available spending within the Commerce and Energy Departments to meet the ambitious cut targets. The CBO analysis reveals a significant shortfall:
"Under Commerce and Energy, they've been ordered to cut $880 billion from their programs, but there's only $330 billion under their auspices." [insert timestamp if available]
This discrepancy highlights the infeasibility of the proposed budget cuts without compromising essential health and social services.
Impact on Social Programs and Red States
The proposed budget cuts by Trump disproportionately threaten social programs that are lifelines for millions of Americans, particularly in red states. Popak outlines the extensive reliance on these programs:
He argues that cutting these programs not only undermines the dignity of vulnerable populations but also destabilizes the social fabric, especially in rural and economically disadvantaged regions predominantly represented by red states.
"Your Medicare, your Medicaid, your Social Security and disability payments. There's no other way around it." [insert timestamp]
Critique of Trump’s Fiscal Strategy
Popak critiques Trump's fiscal strategy, labeling it as unsustainable and harmful. He asserts that Trump's approach to funding tax cuts for the wealthy and expansive immigration programs inherently requires cutting social safety nets for the poor and middle class.
"Donald Trump is a phony populist. He's not a populist. He's a MAGA capitalist. That all he cares about, in a Darwinian fashion, is the rich get richer and the poor get poorer." [insert timestamp]
He further criticizes the administration's dismissal of established mechanisms to curb fraud and waste within government programs, pointing out that the firing of inspectors general has left little room for effective budget management.
Democratic Response and Political Ramifications
Popak highlights the Democratic Party's role in countering Trump's budget proposals, emphasizing their commitment to transparency and protecting vital social programs. He notes that Democrats across various wings have united to safeguard Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP, recognizing the detrimental effects of the proposed cuts on millions of Americans.
"I never thought I'd see the day that a Republican would so quickly unite the Democrats, unite the Democrats in all their wings to help the American people." [insert timestamp]
The analysis suggests that the failure of Trump's budget plan will likely deepen political divides, particularly as the burden of austerity measures falls heavily on communities reliant on federal assistance. Popak predicts that this mismanagement will fuel voter dissatisfaction in red states, potentially leading to significant political shifts in future elections.
Consequences for Veterans and Rural America
A notable portion of the discussion focuses on the adverse effects of the proposed budget cuts on veterans and rural communities. Popak explains that Trump's policies, including the reduction of Veterans Affairs personnel, disproportionately harm veterans who reside in red states.
"When he fires veterans and Veterans Affairs people... undermining our support for veterans in every way, shape and form." [insert timestamp]
This, coupled with the neglect of rural infrastructure and services, exacerbates existing inequalities, further alienating red state voters who may feel abandoned by Trump's administration.
Call to Action and Conclusion
In concluding the episode, Popak urges listeners to remain vigilant and engaged in the political process. He advocates for active participation in town halls and other forums to hold elected officials accountable, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in safeguarding democratic principles.
"You need to go to these town halls... Don't actually go and meet your constituents. You cowards." [insert timestamp]
Popak reiterates the fragility of social programs under the threat of drastic budget cuts and calls for collective action to oppose policies that undermine the welfare of millions of Americans.
Final Thoughts
This episode of Legal AF provides a comprehensive and critical examination of the Trump administration's budgetary strategies, highlighting the unsustainable nature of proposed cuts and their far-reaching consequences on America's most vulnerable populations. Michael Popak's analysis underscores the pivotal role of transparent governance and the necessity of protecting social safety nets from partisan fiscal maneuvers.
