Title: Wanted: A Superhero to Save the World Author: Bryan Davis Narrator: Ramón de Ocampo Format: Unabridged Length: 7 hrs and 19 mins Language: English Release date: 01-15-18 Publisher: Mission Audio Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: Eddie Hertz is a 12-year-old genius who patrols the streets of Nirvana, hoping to foil the schemes of the evil Mephisto. Being small for his age, Eddie relies on a Batman-style gadgets belt and acrobatic skills as well as street smarts and ingenuity. Eddie has a dream, to become like Damocles, Nirvana's great superhero. To accomplish that goal, Eddie invented a device that theoretically will endow him with superpowers, but using it on himself could be dangerous, maybe even fatal, so he doesn't have the nerve to try it. When Mephisto unleashes an earthquake machine to terrorize the city, Eddie gains a surprising ally - his quirky eight-year-old sister, Samantha, who comes up with an unexpected way to help in the frantic battle to prevent the impending destruction. Working as a team, the siblings fight Mephisto in a race against time to save Nirvana and the world from devastating earthquakes, all the while receiving advice from a computerized version of Damocles, who has been rendered incapable of helping in physical form. Members Reviews: Eddie Hurtz is a smart kid who dreams of being a superhero Eddie Hurtz is a smart kid who dreams of being a superhero, just like his "hero" Damocles. Because of this, twelve-year-old Eddie spends his free time creating batman-style gadgets to help him save the day. On one of his nighttime escapades into the city, he finds Damocles, the real superhero. Damocles is injured and enlists Eddie's aid to help save the city from the evil Mephisto. Eddie's younger sister Samantha soon becomes involved as well, and the two of them team up to stop Mephisto's schemes. Wanted: A Superhero to Save the World is Bryan Davis's newest novel for 8-12 year olds. It is a fun, superhero adventure in which two siblings team up to save the world. They learn valuable lessons about sibling love, sacrifice, and what it actually means to be a hero. Heroes have to face dangers that have major consequences, even if it is the "right" decision. They have to keep going even when they are tired and injured, or else many more people will suffer. Eddie and Samantha also grow closer as siblings. They have a rocky relationship at times, but they are a team, and teams stick together. Teams are stronger than individuals. Eddie learns to respect Samantha, even though she is younger and has really long names for things for no reason. (Those names added a bit of humor.) The story is fun, creative, and teaches valuable lessons its readers. Like any superhero story, there is a little bit of danger and violence, but it is easily appropriate for the age group. I enjoyed reading it very much and recommend it to middlegrade (8-12 year old) readers. I received a complementary copy of this book. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for stating them. Vivid, gripping, and fun! A fabulous middle-grade superhero novel! WANTED: A SUPERHERO TO SAVE THE WORLD is a gripping and delightful read, which I read in a day and couldnât seem to put down. Meet Eddie and Samantha (Sam) Hertz. Theyâre kids, but also superheroesâkind ofâand the fate of their city (and the world) is on their small shoulders. Eddie and Sam make a great superhero team, and they have an adorable brother-sister relationship, which I absolutely loved! Eddie is the one telling the story, and heâs a fantastic hero.

Nur eine Sache kann er überhaupt nicht ausstehen: Weihnachten! Members Reviews: Another winner, great addition to Tuesdays at the Castle If you've enjoyed the Tuesdays at the Castle series, you'll love this new addition, Saturdays at Sea, to the series. I can only hope there are new books in the wings waiting to be written. My daughter and I love all Jessica Day George's books. (And, yes, we're adults.) Tuesdays in the Castle, while written for younger audiences, is quite enjoyable fantasy for us adults who indulge in YA and even middle school fantasies as my best friend does. An excellent author such as Jessica Day George makes her works accessible and enjoyable to a wide range of audiences by maintaining the quality of the story and writing. The emotions and feelings about situations are real, the characters are sufficiently complex and imminently relatable. The stories are fun, unique, and right on target for younger readers while letting us adults enjoy stories that are not dumbed-down. Whatever your age, if you love fantasy and haven't read this series, start with Tuesdays at the Castle and enjoy the ride. Why to read castle Glower, the adventure series. I like this book because it is an adventure book, with filled with tension, sadness, mystery, exitement, and love. I can't say that I necessarily disliked this book, and I can tell you, this book, if I had a choice, would have this book, and all the others in the series, be New York bestsellers, and the author, well I would have her win the Nobel prize more than five times in a row for that series in particular. I would recommend this book to children of ages seven years and older. Where as this book is also welcome to children under the recommended age, just with their parents accompany provided. However, I have read this book through thoroughly and have come to the conclusion that this book should be satisfactory to all. The whole reason that I even started this book was because that I have read all the other books in the series, including Tuesdays at the Castle, Wednesdays at the Tower, Thursdays with the crown, and Fridays with the Wizards. After reading them all more than once, I was excited to hear that a new book in the series had finally come out! Finally, I convinced my mother to buy the book for me on the kindle book app, and, well, now this is my fifth time reading it! So thank you for reading this review, and I hope that you can tell others! The final book in the Castle Glower Series - Saturday at Sea This is the fifth and final book in the Castle Glower series by Jessica Day George. The book is continues on with adventures of the Glower children in their magic castle. With the castle rid of the mad wizard, the castle has mostly returned to normal. With a wedding in the future and a premarital party the Glower Children and Queen attend. A gift from the Glower family to their daughter and her fiancé is a ship; which is then moved in pieces and assembled in the new country...

M. Romero Narrator: Abby Craden, Robert Fass Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 41 mins Language: English Release date: 09-12-17 Publisher: Listening Library Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 6 votes Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: In the vein of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Number the Stars, this fusion of fairy tales, folklore, and World War II history eloquently illustrates the power of love and the inherent will to survive even in the darkest of times. In the land of dolls, there is magic. In the land of humans, there is war. Everywhere there is pain. But together there is hope. Karolina is a living doll whose king and queen have been overthrown. But when a strange wind spirits her away from the Land of the Dolls, she finds herself in Kraków, Poland, in the company of the Dollmaker, a man with an unusual power and a marked past. The Dollmaker has learned to keep to himself, but Karolina's courageous and compassionate manner leads him to smile and to even befriend a violin-playing father and his daughter - that is, once the Dollmaker gets over the shock of realizing a doll is speaking to him. But their newfound happiness is dashed when Nazi soldiers descend upon Poland. Karolina and the Dollmaker quickly realize that their Jewish friends are in grave danger, and they are determined to help save them, no matter what the risks. Members Reviews: ETA HOFFMANN ATMOSPHERE If a book is interesting, Im not paying attention to the narration. I think that narrators are always people who try to do all their best to keep us reading or listening, so I wont rate their work, only beg to say that the actors seemed to be simulating polish accent. As For Eric Brandt, It sometimes was difficult to recognize what the character said.(I could hardly understand his accent, maybe it was German, I dont know). Woman who voiced Karolina is the best! As for the story itself, it was the most unusual story I have ever read about the Holocaust and about the war generally. I really thought I was reading a Hoffmanns story, so magic it was. Im 23, Its hardly right saying that Im a child, but still Im thankful to the author for the opportunity to read this book. Im thankful to her for the impressive character of the dollmaker, for the cute Karolina, for such beautiful reminder of the Holocaust, and for I felt like Im a child again. Thanks to all of the people who made the book.

Title: Children of Refuge Author: Margaret Peterson Haddix Narrator: Ramon De Ocampo Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 8 mins Language: English Release date: 09-12-17 Publisher: Recorded Books Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 4 votes Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: After Edwy is smuggled off to Refuge City to stay with his brother and sister, Rosi, Bobo, and Cana are stuck alone - and in danger - in Cursed Town in the thrilling follow-up to Children of Exile from New York Times best-selling author Margaret Peterson Haddix. It's been barely a day since Edwy left Fredtown to be with his parents and, already, he is being sent away. He's smuggled off to boarding school in Refuge City, where he will be with his brother and sister, who don't even like him very much. The boarding school is nothing like the school that he knew, there's no one around looking up to him now, and he's still not allowed to ask questions! Alone and confused, Edwy seeks out other children brought back from Fredtown and soon discovers that Rosi and the others - still stuck in the Cursed Town - might be in danger. Can Edwy find his way back to his friends before it's too late? Members Reviews: A great sequel This story focuses on Edwy, Rosi's friend from the first book. Edwy is sent by his birth father, in the dead of night, to Refuge City. He is told that once there he will be living with his older brother and sister. This is a shock to Edwy for he is used to being the oldest kid from Fredtown and he didn't know he had siblings. Once there life is strange. Even though he has always been a rule breaker, he can't seem to understand why people live the way they do in the city. Why they aren't kinder or more helpful? He begins to fit in with his brother's friends, but only by cheating. His guilt leads him to seek out other children from Fredtowns. He is also desperate to find out what happened to Rosi, whether she was captured or not? His findings lead to some shocking discoveries, and soon it is up to him to convince his selfish brother and sister to risk their lives for someone they don't know, and take him back to rescue Rosi. My Thoughts- It was very interesting to read this book from Edwy's point of view. Up until now it had all been Rosi, and Edwy was just the rule breaker that challenged the Fred's. Now, we see inside his thoughts and actions. Though still a rule breaker, we see that he truly is not cruel in his ideas and that like a small child, he likes to protest and stir the pot. As soon as he sees injustice in Refuge City, it bugs him and he begins remembering all the things the Fred's taught him. As he realizes that he is beginning to sound just like Rosi, his thoughts turn toward his lost friend and he begins to seek out the truth about the aliens and what had happen to all the children in Fredtowns. As readers, we are able to dive more into the inner politics of what happened during the war and see how the Enforcer aliens are trouble for one and all. The question is raised, should all of the children have been taken away or just those who had parents that would not have raised them as humanitarians? Though engaging this book wasn't as fun as the first, probably because the mystery of Fredtowns and aliens was so huge in the first book. However, I did enjoy diving into the characters in this book, seeing how people on Earth treated each other, what had caused the war in the first place, and how the planet coped with their children being taken away for twelve years. It is a good read full of depth and I'm giving it 4.5 stars! Children of Refuge A copy of this book was received for review consideration from the publisher.

Title: The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding Subtitle: A Fiendish Arrangement Author: Alexandra Bracken Narrator: Kirby Heyborne Format: Unabridged Length: 10 hrs Language: English Release date: 09-05-17 Publisher: Recorded Books Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 38 votes Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: Prosper is the only unexceptional Redding in his old and storied family history - that is until he discovers the demon living inside him. Turns out Prosper's great-great-great-great-great-something grandfather made - and then broke - a contract with a malefactor, a demon who exchanges fortune for eternal servitude. And, weirdly enough, 4,000-year-old Alastor isn't exactly the forgiving type. The fiend has reawakened with one purpose - to destroy the family whose success he ensured and who then betrayed him. With only days to break the curse and banish Alastor back to the demon realm, Prosper is playing unwilling host to the fiend, who delights in tormenting him with nasty insults and constant attempts to trick him into a contract. Yeah, Prosper will take his afterlife without a side of eternal servitude, thanks. But with the help of his long-lost uncle, Barnabas, and his daughter, Nell, a witch in training, it seems like Prosper has at least a fighting chance of ridding himself of Alastor before the demon escapes and wreaks havoc on his family. Little does Prosper know, the malefactor's control over his body grows stronger with each passing night, and there's a lot Alastor isn't telling his dim-witted (but admittedly strong-willed) human host. From number one New York Times best-selling author Alexandra Bracken comes a tale of betrayal and revenge, of old hurts passed down from generation to generation. Can you ever fully right a wrong, ever truly escape your history? Or will Prosper and Alastor be doomed to repeat it? Members Reviews: I know we aren't suppose to like demons. What made the experience of listening to The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding the most enjoyable? The plot to me was complex in a way that most middle grade books aren't, and it was awesome! Bracken did a great job giving young readers a story that was written in a way that was easy to follow, but had a story line that could rival some YA novels What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding? Bracken went into great detail with this book, and I loved it. I am a reader who craves detail. I know that sometimes too much detail can feel like information overload, but I didn't feel like that in this book. I think she gave the right amount of detail to set the atmosphere she was striving to reach. It set up a Halloween atmosphere that I craved, and made the book come to life. Which character as performed by Kirby Heyborne was your favorite? Alastor is hilarious and sassy, and if you need to know that's the way to my heart dear friends. He is high and mighty on his demon horse, and stares down on humans with his judging eyes. He doesn't understand why humans act human. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? This book got me excited to read again. After having a personal tragedy in April I haven't been truly excited about anything reading wise. This book reminding me of how fun reading can be. You know that feeling when a book just makes you feel light and all your troubles melt away? Do you know when a book gives you joy and happiness like a little kid? This book gave me that again, and I will forever be grateful. Somthing wicked this way comes! Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why? The narration performance was amazing.

Title: History for Kids: The Illustrated Life of Julius Caesar Author: Charles River Editors Narrator: Tracey Norman Format: Unabridged Length: 27 mins Language: English Release date: 08-28-17 Publisher: Charles River Editors Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: In Charles River Editors' History for Kids series, your children can learn about history's most important people and events in an easy, entertaining, and educational way. The concise but comprehensive book will keep your kid's attention all the way to the end. Possibly the most important man of antiquity, and even all of history, was Julius Caesar. Alexander Hamilton, the famous American patriot, once remarked that "the greatest man who ever lived was Julius Caesar". Such a tribute, coming from one of the Founding Fathers of the quintessential modern democracy in reference to a man who destroyed the Roman Republic, is testament to the enduring mark that Caesar left upon the world. The ultimate conqueror, statesman, dictator, visionary, and opportunist, during his time in power Caesar expanded the borders of Rome to almost twice their previous size, revolutionized the infrastructure of the Roman state, and destroyed the Roman Republic for good, leaving a line of emperors in its place. His legacy is so strong that his name has become, in many languages, synonymous with power: the Emperors of Austria and Germany bore the title Kaiser, and the Czars of Russia also owe the etymology of their title to Caesar. His name also crept further eastward out of Europe, even cropping up in Hindi and Urdu, where the term for "emperor" is Kaiser. Members Reviews: good for a start These mini-histories give enough basic information to ensure that the reader grasps the topic and invite further research. The illustrations are helpful in providing visual reinforcement of the ideas. While not suitable for research purposes beyond a general familiarity, they do provide the reader with further avenues to explore. The Illustrated Life Of Julius Caesar This book gives so many facts, my brother wrote them down, and they didn't all fit on 1 page! The Illustrated Life Of Julius Caesar is an amazing book!

Title: Dirt Author: Denise Gosliner Orenstein Narrator: Bailey Carr Format: Unabridged Length: 5 hrs and 7 mins Language: English Release date: 08-01-17 Publisher: Scholastic Audio Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: A horse in the house? His only friend is Yonder, the scrawny girl next door. So when Miss Enid makes the cruel decision to sell Dirt for horsemeat, Yonder knows she has to find a way to rescue him. Even if that means stealing Dirt away and sneaking him into her own house. What follows will make you worry, will make you cry, and will ultimately fill you with hope, love, and an unshakable belief in the power of friendship. Especially the four-legged kind. Members Reviews: Five Stars My 9 year old daughter LOVES this book! I would let a child under 12 read it; it's a bit dark. The book was thoughtful, poignant, and entertaining; I just donât think itâs right for younger children. The cover says itâs written for 8 to 12 year olds, and Iâm thinking 12 youngest. It just seems too dark for younger children even though it does end happilyâsort of. It starts off with the first chapter telling how the Yonderâs mother died and how her father took it hard. The second chapter then tells us how she is bullied at school, and later even describes a bullying session where she is lured into a boyâs bathroom and has her pants pulled down so the boys can taunt her about her underwear. About that time we also learn the father is a depressed drunk, who rarely leaves the bedroom, and that Yonder is practically starving. Now enter the pony who is supposed to be the bright spot. It causes more issues with Yonder stealing to support it and child services showing up first for school skipping, then for poor living conditions. Then comes foster care and running away to rescue the pony which involved trying to catch rides from strangers. Now I donât know about you but all that seems a bit much for younger kids to be introduced to, at least without a need. So unless you know a young child in foster care or who has experienced that type of life, I donât see a need to put those types or worries or thoughts into a little childâs mind. As for older children and maybe even adults this book can provide quite a bit of insight into the kinds of lives some children have to endure; and who knows may even cause them to feel a little empathy for those with less than they have. A Girl & her Pony My 11yo 6th grader is an avid reader. Here is her review: --- "Yonder is a girl who lost her mom, and her situation is plain tough. She has no one truly looking out of her, she is severely bullied at school and gets blamed for it. After being suspended when she did nothing wrong, a grumpy, fat, one-eyed Shetland pony walks into her life and gives her something to live for. Yonder is very determined to save her new animal friend, Dirt, which I found really inspirational. She also speaks without words, and is such a strong person. I love how she finds her "voice" at the end! Dirt was very lovable and stubborn, and silly! The book was quite an adventure, as Yonder works on her own through dangerous situations. I wish the book didn't end in such a cliffhanger, though, it leaves a lot of major questions unanswered.
