Been covering the team for 20. Today's show is brought to you by Five Hour Energy and the birthday cake flavor is here for you. No fork needed. It's vanilla, it's cake. It's a caffeinated kick. No sugar. Party time. Order@5hour energy.com Lots to get to later on. We're gonna end the show with Jason Tatum, because for once since his return, this is probably the third, fourth, fifth best, you know, story storyline in this game. So we'll get to that later on. We will spend the second segment talking about the other individuals. Peyton Pritchard, Derrick White, the fourth quarter defense. I gotta spend the first segment here talking about Jalen Brown, who was absolutely incredible. There was a point here where I wasn't sure if, if it was going to be an A plus game. I think at worst it was like an A minus game. And then 18 points in the fourth quarter. Jalen was incredible. He is seeing the floor first of all, better than I've, I've, I've seen him kind of read the game in a long time. Everything is starting to come together. I mentioned this after the last podcast, after the last game, in the last podcast where he's just, it seems like he's putting a lot of things together. Obviously the scoring, obviously the playmaking, the defense, Everything came together in this game. He had 40 points, 41 points. He was 19 of 21 from the free throw line. So I'm calling this the half bam. Obviously bam. Adebayo had 83 and shot 43 or something free throws. So this nicely. 41 points on 21 free throw attempts. Yeah, I'm, I'm wearing this out. There's no doubt. I'm like, I'm like Dennis with the, the Brown out on always Sunny. Once he, once. It sticks in my head, I'm, I'm wearing out the term half bam. And that's what Jalen did. A half bam in this game. But it was all Jalen. This was all just Jalen from the beginning. Bring coming down the floor, reading the, reading the floor, reading the play, reading the defense and doing a great job just understanding what the game needs and especially with Jason coming back to, to be a part of a functional offense. The entire Celtics ball movement was fantastic in this game. The Celtics had 31 assists on 39 made baskets. That's just really excellent and it's, it's great to see not just 30 plus assists. Once you hit that 30 assist mark, you know you're having a great passing night. Also. It's. They shot well, but not so ridiculously well that obviously your assist numbers are going to be pumped up. They shot 48.8% overall, so 39 of 80. So you make one more shot there, you shoot 50% which is great, but it wasn't egregiously great. 42.5%. 17 of 40 from 3. That's really good. But it wasn't egregiously good, you know what I'm saying? So it's not just that they made a bunch of buckets. When you make a bunch of buckets, you get a bunch of assists. This is the Celtics moving the ball extraordinarily well, making the right reads, making the right play. I. Maybe a couple of buckets, a couple of shot attempts that you say, okay, those weren't great. You know, Jalen had a couple in the fourth quarter, but he was. He was going so good. And, and look, the. The Sun's defense in that fourth quarter was doing a good job as well. And so they made it. They made it tough on the Celtics. So Jalen had to put up a couple of tough shots. Those are the only shots that I can go back off the top of my head and think, oh, yeah, that those. Maybe you want to get those back. There's always going to be a shot or two or three in a game that you want back if you're shooting at any level of volume. So very rarely do you take. What do you take, 20, 20 shots? Very rarely do you take 20 shots and you think all 20 were great. There's the occasional one, especially when you're a star player, you're just like, okay, that was. That was a little ambitious. But Jalen and Jason and those guys can put up ambitious shots because every once in a while those ambitious shots fall. Like at the end of the game, Jalen hit a big jumper in the middle of the lane. I don't know if that was ambitious, but that was tough. He hit some tough shots in that fourth quarter was a complete takeover. The fourth quarter. Jason. Jalen Performance was not just 18 points in. In getting to the line a bunch. It was incredible defense. He had, you know, a few rebounds. He had that one steal on Devin Booker, which. I'll get to that fourth quarter defense in the next segment. He had a put back. He. He, you know, was Jalen. No, Jason missed a shot. It was like a missed layup. And it was at a time where the Celtics were kind of struggling a little bit, and then Jalen was there for the put back. So he just did a little bit of everything, moving the ball. Well, like I said, you know, hearing those MVP chants. As the night went on, the MVP chance got louder and louder and louder and louder. And it's just great to see him responding in this way. And especially with Jason on the floor. I think that fourth quarter was very notable that Jason and I'll get to more Jason in The third segment. But it was very notable that he. That Jason was standing in the corner a lot and was. Was kind of off the ball. I don't think he's ready for a lot of that. The hardcore movement. Right. I don't think he's ready for that yet, which is interesting. Again, more later. Jalen also. Part of this was Jalen had it going, and I think everybody understood Jalen had it going, and so this was. Why would you take away from any of that? So the Celtics overall defensively in that fourth quarter, great. The ball movement was great. Everything was great. They finished. You know, it started off. Now, I shouldn't say the whole fourth quarter, because at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the first five, six minutes of the. Of the fourth quarter actually wasn't so great. So Devin Booker sits. Devin Booker at 1 point, scored 24 points in a row for the. The Suns. And he sat. And the Celtics were, I think, up 4 at that point, and they quickly went up 10. And. And he comes back in with, you know, after sitting for just a couple minutes, Booker comes back in, and eventually they work it down. The Celtics start getting sloppy. They're missing a bunch of shots. They're turning the ball over a bunch. And it started to feel a little bit like, okay, this is a problem. This is their. Their. Their clutch numbers. We're going to start going back and looking at their. Their clutch numbers from this season, which haven't always been great. And it was Jalen that kind of started turning things around, making some plays, and a 14, 2. 14, 2 finish to this game. Huge. Talk about finishing quarters strong. That was an incredible finish. But the way the Celtics kind of got together behind Jalen Brown defensively stepped up, it was. It was in. It was somebody in the comments, I think, on the short that I posted, or maybe it was somewhere else. Wherever it was, I apologize. I don't. I forget who it was, but. So that was. It was gonna. It was starting to look like it could have been a bad loss, and it ended up being a great win. And you got to give Jalen all the credit in the world. You know, you go back to that San Antonio game. He got kicked out of that game. He was having a phenomenal night. This was the kind of night that he was, I think, on his way to having. He's on a. He's on a stretch. He's on a stretch right now where he's feeling good. He's feeling. He's feeling the game. He's. I think he's getting it at a little bit of a different level now than even before. He's just, he's just raising his game at the right time and doing so when Jason is back, super important. I'm very excited about that. Okay, we'll get into the fourth quarter defense and more when I come back.

Today's show is brought to you by five hour energy. Let's do it. The five hour energy draft. The 18 different flavors to choose from including new options. New options like confetti craze, fruity rainbow, cotton candy. There's something for everybody. Fruity rainbow, huh? That's a bright blend of assorted fruit candy flavor. Sweet layered fruit notes in every sip. Playful multi fruits taste profile. It's like a candy bag flavor impression. That's not going to be my number one pick but if you're into that big flavor burst, that could be a way to go. It's kind of like a fruit punch type of feel. The confetti craze tastes like a birthday cake but not too sweet. None of these have any sugar and that's the important thing. I'm going to an old standby. I go by, I go grape but let's just, let's just say grape is off the board. I'm going cherry. I like cherry. That's gonna be my number one pick. Bold candy style flavor. Classic red fruit profile. Smooth and easy to recognize. Clean, slightly tangy finish. I like a little tangy in the drink. You can get them all. Whether you want that, the super sweet kind of feel, not too sweet or you want that fruity kind of feel. They got them all at five hour energy calm. That's the number five hourenergy.com. you can pick some up. They have zero sugar so check them out. You can also pick them up at Amazon. Celtics get the win here. 121 12. The fourth quarter defense was intense. It was awesome. Jalen after the game was saying like we weren't getting the stops early on, which is true. They started getting them in the fourth quarter in that stretch, 142 stretch, the last 446 of the game. The Suns were 0 for 6 in that, in that stretch, over 2 from 3, 0 offensive rebound. So it's not like they even had a single chance at a put back. So that is huge. They had four free throws. They missed two. So on top of the defense, they got like some luck there. All the while the Celtics were executing their, their offense and obviously Jalen Brown was carrying the day. The Celtics were kind of not letting Devin Booker have what he wanted, but they were comfortable giving him pull up jumpers and you know he put up 40, right? 40 points, 15 of 24 shooting. Got to the line nine times and, and again 24 straight points at one point. I think it was the second and the third quarter that he was carrying them. If Booker doesn't go off like that, this could have been a much easier win for the Celtics even though they did end up winning it by eight. Look, the Celtics were 17 of 40 from three. The Suns were 13 of 40. So they're already a plus 12 there. The free throws were even despite Jalen getting 21 of them. The, the margins were all close and it was basically Devin Booker having a monster night. It was Booker vs. Jalen and I'll get to some of the supporting cast which was better for the Celtics. But what the Celtics were able to do in the fourth quarter to Booker was really great to see because all of a sudden they start putting two on the ball, they start blitzing him, they start kind of showing him a different look in that, in that stretch. And after all game long, not doubling him, not blitzing him like that very often. They. They just go at him. You. You get a steal from the Mishkeda. There's a great kind of like, double team. He can't. He comes up and he rides with Booker all the way along. Peyton Pritchard was getting the main defensive assignment, and what the Celtics were doing were sending help. And I think Booker was expecting switches, and there were a lot of. There was a lot of switching earlier in the game, but instead of the switches, he just got hit with double teams, and I don't think they responded well. So you get that steal from Keita, you get the steal from Jalen Brown, which was interesting after the game, because Jalen was like, yeah, sometimes you take chances and it works out. Sometimes it doesn't. I don't know if I would have taken that chance if I had to do all over again. I was like, buddy, what are you talking about? You. He was. Jalen was in this corner. In fact, if you're watching on YouTube, it's right here. It's like my little telestrator. But he was in this corner right here. And Booker had his back to Jalen. He was just. He had his back and he had, like, that dribble out wide. He was like. And he had it up high and out wide, and. And Jalen just kind of like snuck in and took it. Like, that wasn't even a chance. It wasn't even a risk. It wasn't even a gamble. But Jalen kind of looked at it as a gamble, which was my only, like, eyebrow raising things. That wasn't. Of all the gambles that you could make, that's the least risky gamble. So he got the steal, gets it up to Jayson Tatum, and they get the layup. That was a huge play. The rebounding at the end, the understanding of the game plan, the adjustments for the Celtics defensively was great in this game. You look, the Celtics, the defense has been just off the charts recently, and I just have to commend the Celtics for coming through. You know, all of the things that were said before the season started. The rebounding, which everybody acknowledged the rebounding was going to be a problem. Joe Missoula even said it. You know, Joe's on record. We can go back to the beginning of the year and get the quotes where he acknowledges that the defense, that the rebounding wasn't going to be all that great. And, you know, here they are rebounding really well. The Suns had eight offensive rebounds in this game and second chance points. Celtics won at 16 13. So the rebounding was. Was good. And on top of everything, the Celtics seven steals in this game. So you're causing live ball turnovers. It's the way they've stepped up, the way they've kind of come together. The communication. I think the communication is a big element to why the Celtics were able to get this, this win and shut Phoenix down at the back half of the fourth quarter. You see a lot of rotation. There was one play in particular, I forget exactly how it went down, but there was. Oh no, it was the jump ball. It was the jump ball where this was fun. The jump ball at the end where Keda was kind of like stubbornly standing in a spot. The Celtics had already had a delay of game and he was standing in the spot and he was not moving. And the ref was like, you've got to go over here. You have to have. Basically the rule is you have to split the court. You get one side, the other guy gets the other side. And basically you use the center of the rim as the guide. And the center of the rim is here. You get here, this guy gets there and that's it. Let's do the jump ball. And Kato wouldn't move. And I just remember Derek going up to him and saying, you have to move. It'll be a Tech. You already have a delay of game. You don't want to give up the point on the Tech to the point where Jason comes in and kicks him out. It's like you go here I've got this. And that's all important because. Because Keda was off to the side. Now Phoenix. It was a jump ball between Devin Booker and Peyton Pritchard. Booker wins that now because of that. Now, now Keita is up high and you want him down low kind of quarterbacking the defense and the Celtics just navigate this thing. It was, it was a bad moment for Keda, who didn't Keita side note passing was phenomenal in this game. The rest of his game was eh. But the passing was on point because Kato was being stubborn and they had to kick him out and move him and all of that. Now it put the Celtics in a bad spot defensively and they just talked their way through it and it ended up working out where Keda rotated down and, and got into position and it worked out for the Celtics, but they've done. They were doing a lot of great talking and rotating and understanding where they needed to be, how they needed to react. They're on the same page. The, the chemistry on both ends of the floor. This might be the best. It's been all season. Some might call it peaking at the right time. I think there's some of that going on. I don't want to go too crazy about peaking at the right time. I don't want to make it seem like it's, it's more than it is. And I don't want to. Sometimes people get too caught up in that. But I do see the signs of the communication being on the same page. All that stuff peaking now. Like it's, it's that there's no other way to put it. All right, let's get into some of these other performances. Peyton Pritchard, Derek White, Jason Tatum. All of that is next. Today's show is brought to you by Wayfair. Spring is a great time for a refresh. Let's go down the box score here and and just shout out some of these individuals. Derrick White 21 points, 8 of 16 shooting 5 of 11 from 355 assists, 4 rebounds. He had a huge second quarter just finding his way to the the catch and shoots are the thing that we're all looking for that I'm looking for. This is I think when the season's going to be all said and done. We'll look back on Jason Tatum's return the early March and all of a sudden you filter from March through the end of the end of April and you're going to find that Derek's efficiency is going to be through the roof. Peyton Pritchard also a great game for him. I think Pritchard might have been one of the most important guys. 19 points, 6 of 13 shooting, 5 of 9 from 3 d. D. White and Peyton are for the third time, have five three pointers and five assists, the most in Celtics history. Which is, you know, it's not that long with three pointer, but it's been long. It's been a long time. So Pritchard's been struggling, so it's great to see him get going. We're starting to see some things come around here. So Pritchard getting going is important. Derek getting going is important. Again, the catch and shoot numbers are huge for him. You got 21 and you got 21 from Jason Tatum. So Sam Houser was, you know, until the fourth quarter. We. He. He kind of did a decent job there. Derek was in foul trouble, so. So Sam had to kind of step in for him there. Garza, Sherman, Ugo, Charman did. Did play well. He hit all three of his shots, five rebounds. That was good to see. And then like somewhere right here off, because I'm. I said I'm. This is the row where I sit in. This is kind of sort of my view from the. The game. But in this kind of row behind the Celtics bench, somebody had a big sign with the thumbs up for Baylor. Shireman. It was a left. It was a left thumb, too. Nice attention to detail there. But that was kind of cool to see. Baylor did a good job. You know, like I said, he's. He's out there rebounding, he's hitting shots, a couple of important shots. A nice drive. So that was good. And then Jason Tatum. 8 of 18, 2 of 8 from 3 efficiency still not there. Although the 8 of 18 is close. You know, almost 50% the line. Get to the line three times, 3 of 3, seven assists, six rebounds. I'm sorry, seven rebounds. It was four assists, a couple of turnovers in a steal. I was talking to J. King and we're both noticed kind of the same thing, that Tatum hasn't taken a lot of free throws. And I think that's going to be where we start to see Tatum really being himself when he starts getting to line 8, 9, 10 times. That's going to be the Jason Tatum that we all kind of remember. So that's something to look for. I think this was both an encouraging day for Tatum because his drives really look good. And also one of those interesting because like I said before, he kind of was A floor spacer. He was, it was. He was definitely away from the ball. He wasn't. He didn't look ready to. He didn't look ready to push it that extra little bit there in the fourth quarter, which does raise some questions about the playoffs, which are more than a month away. So I'm not really worried about it. But it's. I think this is our first glimpse of. Okay, Jason is, is definitely still in the rehab phase of this, which I've been saying he is very much rehabbing, and this is still a rehab situation. So let's not go too far over our skis with Tatum coming back. He's been massively impressive and. Which is why it's so easy to get out over your skis with, with him and, and how he looks. It's been, it's been an amazing recovery. However, it's still part of the recovery. He's still not 100%, and I just think he, he. There are points where he's still not 100% comfortable. You still see him maybe not quite as explosive as he has been in the past, but like I said, his drives look good there. There are moments where you see it and then there are moments where it's like, okay, it's still not there. So a work in progress, but still a very encouraging work in progress for Jayson Tatum. But we're not used to a Jason Tatum that is so far out of the half court stuff in. At that point in the fourth quarter. So I do think that some of it is, hey, Jalen had it going and we're just going to let it happen. I also think that because where he is in his rehab process, he's very kind of happy to let Jalen do it and work his way into kind of that eventually he's going to be fine. This is not a criticism or anything like that. It's. He's. He's going to, he's going to get there. It takes time. If anything, it's still encouraging that he was there, still making plays. It's not like he didn't make plays. He made plays down the stretch. He was there. There are times where he's definitely not thinking about the Achilles and, and he does attack. Well, I think it's just there's. There are points where it's like instinct and then there are points where he's like, okay, I'm not sure. I'm just a little tentative. It's all part of the process. It's all going to be fine. And you didn't need that from him because Jalen was awesome in the fourth quarter. So, hey, look, big win for the Celtics over a good team in Phoenix. And you know, I haven't even checked to see what the standings look like because so, so caught up in all of this that. Let's see, what do we have here? The Celtics obviously still in second. In second, they're three and a half games behind the Detroit Pistons. They are a game and a half up on the New York Knicks. Two in the lost column. So that's very good to see. The Celtics holding strong here. And now their upcoming schedule is. Look, the Celtics don't have any breaks here. They play Wednesday against the Golden State warriors here at Memphis, which should be easy. Sunday against the Timberwolf, the Minnesota Timberwolves, which could be difficult. Could be easy. Hard to tell with these guys right now. Another game against okc and so tough stretch here. The good thing is Western Conference. Western Conference. Western Conference, Western Conference. Next four games against the west before you get Atlanta, Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami, Milwaukee, Toronto, Charlotte, New York. That big stretch of Eastern Conference games. A game against New Orleans and then you finish against Orlando. All tiebreaker, important tiebreaker things. The Celtics do have that two game cushion in the loss column. If they beat New York on April 9, they will split the series and that triggers the next cascading set of tiebreakers, which makes all of these Eastern Conference games super important. Lots to get to when it comes to that. Not worried about that right now. All I'm worried about right now is the Celtics beat the Phoenix Suns second win in a row after losing two. And now they get ready to take on the Golden State Warriors. I will be here for that game as well.
