Dallas Cowboys shock Philadelphia Eagles with a dramatic 24-21 comeback win—just how far can grit and talent carry this squad? Marcus Mosher and Landon McCool break down a wild game where the Cowboys erased a 21-point deficit, powered by defensive heroics from Quinnen Williams and Osa Odighizuwa, and a game-changing late fumble recovery.

He is Landon McCool and on today's show we're talking about the Cowboys. Improbable. I I don't even know if that's strong Enough of a word. Win over the Philadelphia Eagles. 24, 21 Lane in this game started about as bad as possible. The Cowboys got the ball to start. They turned it over on downs. Philadelphia went right down the field, scored at one point. It was 21 0. And I was tweeting about draft stuff at that time. And yet they found a way to win.
C
Yeah, I. I'm still kind of completely in shock. I mean, I think when they started coming back, you know, in the second half, even then it felt like, well, it's good, it's good. It's good to see them have some fight. You know, I'm glad to see them kind of scrap back in this and show some heart, because this obviously, you know, everything's going against them and, and the ball was bound not, you know, not only they were playing poorly, let me be very clear, like, they played very poorly in the first half, but on top of that, you know, the ball was bouncing the wrong way too, right? Like, they. They got a huge penalty on a punt block that, you know, maybe Flournoy got his finger tipped on and shouldn't have gotten a penalty. They had a couple other unlucky, lucky things where that happened to them. That, that kind of, you know, that was outside of just bad play and, and, and. And, you know, so it was easy to kind of, when they started to come back in the second half, be like, well, you know, again, just glad they're making some effort, but not really count them in. And then the next thing that needed to happen in order for you to have a little bit of hope that they were going to win this game, it just kept happening. Like, you know, the, the.
B
The.
C
Even when the Eagles were driving down the field and suddenly they fumble the ball and the Cowboys have it, and it's like, what. Wait, what do you mean? Sam Williams, Peanut, punched the ball out and Kenneth Murray recovered the ball. That couldn't possibly happen in this game. Like, it just felt like the improbable just continued to happen, especially at the beginning of that fourth quarter. And the Cowboys, you know, despite not. It not being linear, right, it not being like, oh, it all flipped. It's only. It was all Cowboys. There were lots of fits and starts for this whole situation, but it was enough that the Cowboys were able to call their ways back into this game. And then, you know, once it was even, that's when I really started to get nervous. And I just felt like, man, it would be terrible to lose this game just because, you know, that would feel like a capper to the way that they played earlier in the game. But. But they didn't.
B
There's very few of these games in my lifetime where the Cowboys have had a massive deficit and they've been able to come back and win against a quality team. I think there was one like in 2014 when they played the Rams and they got down early. I think that was the game that the ball got snapped over Romos head, I believe.
C
Yeah.
B
And they came back and they won games like that. But this was different, right? Like, the Cowboys never had the lead in this game until there was no time left on the clock in the fourth quarter. And it was one of those games where it just felt like they were always one. They were making plays. Right. But they were always one more play away, really breaking through. Whether that was CD Lamb dropping the ball into the end zone, whether that was the. The interception that happened in the end zone, or on defense, they couldn't get that one turnover with the ball, you know, popping up in the air. But they did it. And it was. It didn't feel particularly fluky on defense. And we're going to get to the details a little bit. It felt like over time the Cowboys talent started to win out. And I think that's what was so unique about this is it did feel like for, you know, at least in the second half, like the Cowboys were the better team and as long as they stayed out of their own way, they were going to be fine.
C
Yeah, it was. It was about having enough time to kind of complete this comeback at a certain point. Right. Like, he felt like the, the gravity of the talent was on the Cowboys side a certain point. It wasn't just, could we get another stop? It was like, I feel like they're gonna get a stop here. And if the Cowboys can actually do something with it on offense. And I think that's what kind of, you know, really made this game kind of extend a little bit, especially in the second half, is that the Cowboys kept on making these stops and the Eagles kept on punting the ball. And the Cowboys would get the ball like on their own eight yard line, on their own seven yard line, and then they would march 70 yards down the field and then commit a penalty in the red zone and then kind of, you know, make the whole red zone nonsense difficult. Well, we need to have a whole conversation about the Cowboys inability to consistently run the football in the red zone, which I think is an off season.
B
Conversation about their willingness to, or just the, the fact that they.
C
Yes, whatever you're about to say yes, all of it, the willingness or whether it's the ability to. It's like, yes, they, they. The. The fact that they can't and that they won't is becoming a real problem for this team when they're able to move the football consistently. But I want felt feel so kind of start and stoppage on offense.
B
We're going to talk about the defense, we're going to talk about George Pickens and CD Lamb here in a little bit. But big picture, The Cowboys are 5, 5 and 1. And from a like playoff standpoint, Sunday actually wasn't a very good day for them because Green Bay won, Detroit won, Chicago won, a lot of the other contenders won. Now, honestly, your best, best path to the playoffs and we talked about this on Friday show, is to win the division and hope the Philadelphia collapse happens. It starts with a nice loss this week against the Cowboys, but one of the things that we said, you know, coming out of the bye week is that we just wanted to see the Cowboys play better football. And whether that in a playoff birth or not, we just wanted them to be a more functional football team. There were a lot of times in this game landed they were not functional, they were not competent, they were making stupid penalties. And I can't, I don't even know how many times we tweeted, this is a dumb team. But you. Different players stepped up when they needed it and they got a really gritty win again that we just haven't seen very often in the last 20 or 30 years.
C
Yeah, I mean, that's the thing, right? Is that this is exactly the kind of game that the Cowboys would find a way to lose. Right. And the fact that they were able to pull it out and, and despite their kind of own shooting themselves in the foot at certain points. And look, you know, I think we need to do a deeper dive on some of this because I do think that there was some stuff that was consistently good. I mean, especially when you consider how good this Eagles defense was. I thought that the Cowboys offensive line played absolutely lights out. You know, like, look, Guyton had a couple penalties in, in, in the red zone, one of which may have been manufactured. I kind of want to go back and listen to the audio on that one. But I, I think overall Dak was able to throw. I mean, he threw the ball 36 times and was able to do so with only getting sacked once. And I don't think he was pressured very much. And they were able to go over 4 yards a carry with 125 yards running the football. So I thought that the offensive line for the most part played really good against a really good Eagles defensive line, but outside of that, they struggled to find consistency in their pass catchers. We'll have a whole conversation about that, but I think despite the inability to kind of consistently punch it in for points in the red zone, they they were provided enough chances by their own defense, which is so rare that they were eventually able to kind of break through. And that was the difference.
B
Let's talk about that Cowboys defense because it started out a little rough for this unit, but this might have been the best game that They've played since 2023. We'll get to that next. Welcome back to the Lot Done Cowboys Podcast. We'd like to thank you for making us your first listen of the day. We'd also like to thank you for making Lock on the number one sports podcast network la. Let's talk about the Cowboys defense in this one, because I know this Philadelphia offense has had some struggles in recent weeks that still doesn't take away all the talent. It still doesn't take away what they did last year. They're a Super bowl caliber team. Started off this game 14, 0. And then the Cowboys had the, the really unfortunate play, the Ryan Flournoy play, right. But from that point on, the Cowboys had eight straight drives on defense where they got a stop, including the final drive of the game 5 play, 17 yards, punt. Considering the opponent and the situation where you were in a negative game script all game long, I'm trying to think of the last time they played a game this well. And you probably have to go all the bit all the way back to 2023.
C
Yeah, I think so. I mean, look, I mean, think about it this way. The Eagles have played this sort of game, it feels like six times, you know, in the last season, the season so far. And they've won most of those games, right? Including the one against the Cowboys in week one. Right. And for the Cowboys defense to be the difference, like there was a point where the Cowboys offense was just flailing. They just couldn't seem to kind of get it together. You know, a certain point early, there was a certain point kind of in the middle of this game as well where it just felt like the Cowboys couldn't consistently get the first downs they needed to get into in order to get into scoring position. And there were, I mean, think about how many times you as a fan were sitting there and thinking, please just give us one more stop. Just find a way to get one more stop, right? And really the closest they came, you know, was, was the, was that second to last drive right where they. Or was it were they were the Cowboys forced to fumble, right. And, and look, the Cowboys defense really continuously stepped up and then they got a little bit of luck obviously with the missed field goal. But even that, like, you know, the reason they're kicking that field goal is because they got pushed back because of the way that the defense was playing. So yeah, I mean, again, it wasn't perfect, but considering what we were dealing with previous before the buy, this is just a completely different unit. It's playing with a different tenor. Even the guys, I mean, look again, Sam Williams punched the ball out and Kenneth Murray recovered it. Like I'm not going to harp on that anymore. Like the fact that some of these guys who just continuously have been problems, they're getting the ability to only have to be on the field enough that we're not seeing their flaws exposed as much and we're seeing guys like DeMarvi and Overshone and Carson getting more opportunities, Revelation. I think it's just been a, a huge turnaround on every level of this defense, especially obviously starting up front with Quinn and Williams and all those guys.
B
So you would think in a game where Philadelphia has a 210 lead that they just lean on the run game. That wasn't the case. And it's not because they didn't try. They weren't effective. Saquon, Barkley, Landon, from the time the game started was 21 0, right from that point on, had 11 rushing yards. And it's because the Cowboys were so good at stopping these early down runs and getting Philadelphia into these second and nines, third and tens. They had a couple, you know, third and 12s, third and 15s, one of which they converted, but they got him into these long down and distances and they were able to get off the field. And that's something they just weren't doing at the beginning of the season. It's something they weren't doing last year. And again, I feel crazy saying this, but their run defense is now. One of their strengths is back to back weeks where they were really good at stopping the run.
C
Well, it's what we talked about, right? Like, if the Cowboys can find a way to make them one dimensional and make Jalen Hurts throw the football from the pocket. The difference in the way they were throwing the football when they were in a neutral game script versus when they were trying to control the clock, I mean, I think ultimately made a huge difference because they had no ability to get the yards that they needed to. To eat the clock, that they needed to win the game. Right? Because. And ultimately the game on that side of the ball became about who was winning second down on the, on that, on. On that drive, right? Or on that set of downs. Like if the Cowboys were able to stop them to an unsuccessful play on second down and set them into a third long, the Cowboys were, you know, both teams ended up at 40, like just above 40% on third downs, which isn't great, you know, but. But I think, you know, ultimately you saw that the Cowboys were getting them into spots that they needed to, to. To get them off the field. And again, enough times that it was on the Philadelphia Eagles side of the ball that they had to, you know, punt the ball and turn the ball over as opposed to get into a position where they could, you know, get to a short fourth down and push. I mean, tush push. They only had one of those attempts in this game because they didn't have any Opportunity to use it.
B
I want to talk about the defensive tackles. OSA got the huge sack at the end of the game to give the Cowboys a chance to, you know, to win the game, and they ultimately did. That was awesome to see him do that. But Quinn and Williams, I know he didn't have a sack in this game, but if you're listening to this podcast, you know that sacks can be kind of fluky. This is the second week in a row that he's had a pass rush win rate of 25 or better. He dominated Landon Dickerson and Cam Durgans and Tyler Steen, and that's why you go out and get them, because it frees up all of these other guys. Eight pressures in this game for Quinn and Williams. That is unheard of for, For a defensive tackle.
C
Yeah, second best. Landed, didn't have a chance against Quinn and Williams. It was really dominating him. And, and I think that, yeah, honestly, it just felt like as they were kind of getting later into the game, the Cowboys defensive line was only getting better and stronger. You just felt like Hertz was getting, you know, even down, like at the end, like with what we talked about, they were able to crunch hurts back into the pocket. There were some times he was able to slip out and kind of get what he needed to and pick up some first downs, but for the most part, you felt like you could feel the pressure on him and he was, you know, missing on even some key. Key. But I think there was a part in the third quarter where he, like, I, he completed something like 13 passes in the first half. And there was a point in the third quarter, I think near the end, where he had only completed 2, 2 passes in the whole quarter. Like, like the Cowboys were just, you know, constantly getting him into pressure to the point where he was missing wide open and easy stuff, which is, you know, ultimately what you want. You can't always rely on the corners to just be able to, to. To cover everything for the whole time. Sometimes it's about forcing the quarterback to throw it when he's not ready to. And the Cowboys defensive line did a great job of that.
B
I just want to read to you the, the drives the Cowboys had on defense after Philadelphia took, yes, 210 lead again. Remember, seven of those points came after the. The penalty on the punt. Again, the Cowboys defense got a three and out on that one, and it was kind of a bad call. But this is from that point on, 3P plays, negative. 2 yards punt, 3 plays. 1 yard punt, 3 plays. 3 yards punt, 6 plays. 18 yards punt, 3 plays, 7 yards punt, 7 plays, 30 yards. And that was the 57 yard miss. Field goal, 6 plays, 33 yards fumble. 5 plays, 17 yards punt. I mean, that is a dominating defensive performance from basically the second quarter on.
C
Yeah. And again, like, it just the, the tenure of everything, the confidence level that everyone's playing with right now, it's just different. It's just, it's just, you know, professional level, which is something that I don't feel like we were getting earlier in the season.
B
And real quick.
C
Yeah, yeah, please.
B
Okay. Do you think this is a, a Quinn and Williams thing where he's just so dominant that he helps everybody play do better? Is it because you're getting some other guys healthy, like the Marvin over shown Savon Revel or. And again, I know Cowboy fans probably don't want to hear this, but is it because Iber Fluz's defense is starting to play a little bit faster? Because I will say in Chicago, this is what happened with the Bears. That first year that Matt Eberflus was there, their defense was awful, but by the second half of the season, they started to really clamp down. Could that be happening here?
C
I think it's all of it. I, I, and I also think the Marshawn Nealon stuff has just brought everyone together in another level. I don't think that they can put a finger on what it is, but I think that it's, it's a confluence of all of those things. The additions, dishes, including people coming off the, the injury list, all of it has just added up to the vibe being very different. Right. And, and them just kind of accepting that and, and, and, you know, living kind of day to day helps them easily change and be a little bit more able to adapt and say, hey, that's not who we were three weeks ago. We're a different team now. And, and right now, as, right now, as their play confirms it, it's a lot like Kaylin Carson. Right. Like when you play confident, when you, when you, when you prepare confidently and then the results show up for you, you start believing in yourself a lot more and you start playing that way all the time, and that helps your overall game.
B
All right, let's talk about the Cowboys receivers in this game because it was a tale of two star receivers. Let's talk about George Pickens and CD Lamb next. This episode is brought to you by. Real quick, Lynn I got to watch this Cowboys Eagle game with two die hard lots on Cowboy listeners. That was a lot of fun. Shout out to Matt and Elijah. What a game to to watch together. But I want to talk about the receivers. I don't want to do the thing where we're picking between who's better CD Lamb, George Pickens or which one should they keep. Because I think honestly a lot of that's nonsense. They're going to keep both these guys. They they honestly they they need each other. They complement each other really well. Having said all of that, it might be time to give Pickens more targets in this offense, nine targets, nine catches, 146 yards and a touchdown, including the big play to set up the game winning field goal. He was a rock star on Sunday.
C
Yeah, absolutely. And look, I, I mean, I think, you know, it's no offense to cd but it's time for him to start kind of pulling his weight here a little bit. I mean, I hate to be like that, but there was a point in this game, I mean, he ended. Look, I'm not the big, and at least maybe not anymore, I'm not so big on like conversion rates with targets versus receptions because sometimes that can be a little bit noisy and some of the, the stuff. But I, I will say just generally speaking, for a guy who got 11 targets and is, and only, you know, converted four of them, it's just like, it's difficult and, and reflected in the offense, right? And he had some key drops, including one that was in the end zone that like it went right through his hands. And that was at the end of a series of very bad plays for him. Right. Where he just felt like he lost focus and lost control of the ball.
B
Seven drops in two games against Philadelphia.
C
Yeah. And mean, I, I, look, it's, it's hard because Pickens had the exact opposite sort of effect where every single time the ball went to, it went to him. It felt like it was a big play, whether it was yardage or conversion or what it was like it was impactful and important and, and he including, you know, maybe the biggest play of the game, honestly, I mean looking back that 43 yard, I think it was slant that kind of set all this up for the kick, you know, ultimately probably was the game winning play. Right. If you're looking at, at the, at the roller coaster of, of game percentage chances. Right. Like that must have flipped the switch. Right? So I, I think that's the problem that we're all kind of dealing with is, look, I think, you know, it's, it's great when, oh Look, Pickett said 15 more yards or, or Lamb had a couple more yards. Like one of them is clearly not playing their best football while getting, you know, the majority at this point still of the attention and the, the routes run through him and the other guy is, is just this ultra efficient guy who is, you know, it's almost like the running back two argument sometimes, right, where you're always loving the second best guy. But at this point, Pickens is outputting way more an efficient level than CD Lamb is.
B
And that doesn't mean it's always going to Be that way. Like, I think there's going to be some stretches coming up where baby Pickens has harder matchups or he's just having a bad game or two. Like that happens. And that's why you want to have these guys. This is why you and I taught this offseason, why we thought the wide receiver two role was one of the biggest needs on this team, is because in previous iterations of the Cowboys, if CD Lamb had a bad game like this, no chance you win. There's just nobody else that could consistently win one on one coverage. But now that you have Pickens, I don't want to say that you could afford to have CD Have a bad game because you almost lost this one. But this is why you go out and you spend a third round pick to get Pickens. And this is why you should pay him whatever it costs to get him. Because when one guy is having a bad game, the other one can go off and look like Randy Moss 2.0 and save your season.
C
Yeah. Because look, I mean, you know, the other thing is that you're still going to be giving these targets to guys like Turpin and, and other guys who add this weird angle to your offense but like at the same time fumble the ball when you're handing them off to it. So like.
B
Well, and not only that, there was a. There was a big play. It was the second to last drive the Cowboys had. It was a first and 20 and they were trying to run a tunnel screen to Turpin just to get like five or six yards.
C
Yeah.
B
And he just flat out dropped the tunnel screen. It's like that's one of the easiest touches that you can get and you can't even trust him in that situation. You don't want to have to go back to. You're going to have somebody better, but you don't want to have to go back to something like that. Opposite of CD Lamb.
C
Yeah, that's the thing, right? Is that like if you can't. There were times last year where you couldn't do. You couldn't do that stuff. And then on top of that, CD Lamb was also not playing great. And it's like at that point, what are you even doing? And now at least you have Pickens to keep you afloat, that you still have a solid running game. That even in late in the, in late in the game you were getting four or five yards a pop, you ended up with four yards of carry, which I think helped kind of balance things out, which it really did. Even when they were down big. But, like, without those things last year, we in. In CD Lamb playing like he did, like tonight, you would have had real problems.
B
Pickens was awesome. I mean, he's had a lot of really good games for the Cowboys. This was probably the best one because he was just. He was maximizing every target and every play. And it just seemed like every time the Cowboys needed a big play, he was there to make it, including the final catch that he had in this game, which set up kind of a chip shot field goal. The Cowboys have made a lot of questionable moves over the last couple years in trades. This wasn't one of them. They've hit a home run on George Pickens.
C
Yeah. And. And honestly, you know, you could make the argument, like, how much does it make up for the Micah Parsons trade that you got this guy? Like, it's a legitimate question because, like, even. Because just at least for this year. Right. Because he's been that good. I mean, he. I. I'm not good. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure he still leads the NFL and receiving yards. If I'm not mistaken.
B
He's. He's, he's behind that because Jackson Smith, the Jigba's at like 30, but he's at 150 or, sorry, 1,050 yards already.
C
Yeah. And so, like, yeah, I mean, it's just been an absolute home run for them, especially what they paid for it. Yeah, it's been huge, and I think it's going to be huge in the future for them as well.
B
Cowboys are 5, 5 and 1 this the second time this year they're at 500. They have a chance to get above 500 on Thanksgiving Day against the Kansas City Chiefs in a game to kind of mean something now. Episode: COMEBACK: Dallas Cowboys DEFY ODDS With EPIC 21-Point Comeback vs Philadelphia Eagles!
Hosts: Marcus Mosher, Landon McCool
Date: November 24, 2025
In this electric episode, Marcus Mosher and Landon McCool break down the Dallas Cowboys’ jaw-dropping 24-21 comeback victory against the Philadelphia Eagles. Down 21-0 early, the Cowboys staged one of the most improbable turnarounds in franchise history. The hosts analyze the game’s key moments, the defensive resurgence, the dual-star performances at receiver, and how this win shapes the season’s playoff outlook—all with their signature mix of expertise and fan passion.
[01:45-03:00] Marcus opens by describing how dire the game seemed after the Cowboys went down 21-0:
"At one point, it was 21-0. And I was tweeting about draft stuff at that time. And yet they found a way to win." – Marcus Mosher [02:30]
Landon details how, even when the comeback began, doubt lingered due to the team’s first-half performance and bad luck:
"They played very poorly in the first half... but on top of that, the ball was bouncing the wrong way too." – Landon McCool [03:08]
The hosts highlight the emotional swings and the sheer improbability of the Cowboys’ path back, especially as the key defensive turnovers occurred and the game tightened:
"When they started to come back...the next thing that needed to happen in order for you to have a little bit of hope...it just kept happening." – Landon McCool [03:46]
[04:57]
"The Cowboys never had the lead in this game until there was no time left on the clock in the fourth quarter." – Marcus Mosher
Marcus points out how the game never felt under control—even as the Cowboys clawed back, they were perpetually one play away:
"Whether that was CeeDee Lamb dropping the ball in the end zone...or on defense, they couldn’t get that one turnover...But they did it." – Marcus Mosher [05:04]
"There were a lot of times in this game...they were not functional, they were not competent, they were making stupid penalties." – Marcus Mosher [07:15]
"We need to have a whole conversation about the Cowboys' inability to consistently run the football in the red zone..." – Landon McCool [07:01]
[11:38-14:27]
"From that point on, the Cowboys had eight straight drives on defense where they got a stop." – Marcus Mosher [12:03]
Landon praises the defense’s ability to step up and keep the team in the game:
"The Cowboys defense to be the difference...this is just a completely different unit. It's playing with a different tenor." – Landon McCool [13:17]
"Their run defense is now one of their strengths—back-to-back weeks where they were really good at stopping the run." – Marcus Mosher [15:14]
Quinn and Williams (defensive tackle) dominated the Eagles’ interior line, posting 8 pressures (elite for a DT):
"It just felt like as they were...the Cowboys defensive line was only getting better and stronger." – Landon McCool [17:34]
Osa Odighizuwa’s (OSA) late sack was crucial.
"It’s a confluence of all of those things. The additions, including people coming off the injury list, all of it has just added up to the vibe being very different." – Landon McCool [19:55]
9 targets, 9 catches, 146 yards, 1 TD. Highlighted for both efficiency and explosive play—most notably the 43-yard catch to set up the game-winner:
"Pickens had the exact opposite sort of effect where every single time the ball went to him… it felt like it was a big play." – Landon McCool [24:39]
"Every time the Cowboys needed a big play, he was there to make it, including the final catch that set up a chip shot field goal." – Marcus Mosher [28:01]
The trade for Pickens is lauded as a “home run,” especially in games where Lamb struggles.
"Seven drops in two games against Philadelphia." – Marcus Mosher [24:36]
"In previous iterations of the Cowboys, if CeeDee Lamb had a bad game like this, no chance you win...But now that you have Pickens...the other one can go off and look like Randy Moss 2.0 and save your season." [25:51]
On the rarity & magnitude:
"There’s very few of these games in my lifetime where the Cowboys have had a massive deficit and they've been able to come back and win against a quality team." – Marcus Mosher [04:57]
On defensive dominance:
"That is a dominating defensive performance from basically the second quarter on." – Marcus Mosher [19:05]
On Pickens’ breakout:
"They've hit a home run on George Pickens." – Marcus Mosher [28:01]
On team mentality:
"When you prepare confidently and then the results show up for you, you start believing in yourself a lot more and you start playing that way all the time, and that helps your overall game." – Landon McCool [20:20]
