Jeff Biggs
All right, squad up. We are with you on this Thursday night. Welcome to another edition of the Cowboys squad show. That is former former Cowboys coach Glenn Stretch Smith in the corner and right here in the middle is the co host of the daily Cowboys Lockdown Cowboys podcast. Doing double duty this week and quadruple duty today. And that's one and only Marcus Moser. Gentlemen, great to be with you. We may, may or may not have Aisha Morrison. Hopefully we will. And Landon McCool will be back with us next week. But got to start with the big news today. And Marcus, I got to give you credit, you guys were all over it. You and Landon were all over it this morning and it's kind of building and building and building. But in layman's terms, the Browns reworked their deal with the reigning defensive player of the year, Miles Garrett. They structured to give him his guaranteed money later in, later up right before the season starts as Field the 8th. Pointed out over at ESPN this is opening the door or the window with his consent to facilitate a trade if it, if it works out so. Right.
Marcus Mosher
Yeah. And I just, I don't want to get into all the contract stuff because it's tiresome. But yeah, basically the point is, is Miles Garrett has all this money coming to him, 26 million. And the Browns had to go to Miles Garrett and say, hey, can we delay this until late August just to give us some more flexibility. And Garrett said yes. And most of the time, I mean, I don't know about you Stretch, but if somebody's offering me $26 million and today will you wait six months to get it? I probably would say no. I mean, I would. I just take the 26 million dollar check whenever somebody offers it to me. So this is a big deal because it does put a trade on the table.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Well, I think, I think it opens the door, right, for people to then say what, what can we do to get in this? And then it becomes, you know, hey, I think it's, I think it's wide open to do anything here. I like what normally, sorry to say, I don't normally like anything that Cleveland does, but I do like this. I mean, I like that they're giving him an opportunity to say maybe you can have an opportunity to get out of here.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah. Well, I think a couple of things, number one, I mean for. From their vantage point, right. Clearly they're not expected to win this season. Probably not next season maybe. I mean the NFL, you can turn things around pretty quickly, but realistically, probably not. And gives them an opportunity to unload him and get something back while his value is still at a high and still in his peak, they can get a haul which they could use. And they kind of got burned by the Deshaun wat not kind of, they did by the Deshaun Watson deal. So this gives them an opportunity to restock. As you pointed out, Marcus, they've been pushing for adding extra years to draft trade, draft pick trade. So that's on that clearly on their mind. Right. They're thinking about that. And then, you know, from the Cowboys standpoint, when you made some pretty significant offers for Max Crosby, I would much rather have Miles Garrett if, if you can get him. And he, he is that kind of a player.
Marcus Mosher
Yeah. And we should talk about the competition because when Landon and I did our show this morning about it, there was a lot of pushback that well, he's not worth three first round picks. You know, he's not a first round pick better than Micah Parsons. And listen, I get it, trading three first round picks for any non quarterback is unheard of. But the reason why he would be more expensive is number one, he's just better. I mean he's the Reigning defensive player of the year. He's a two time defensive player of the year. And the contract is so much more manageable. The numbers over the next three years, the, the new team would be acquiring 9 million in 2026, 17 million in 2027 and 21 million in 2028. I'm not good at math, but that's basically like 40 million over three years. And what did Michael Parsons get in Green Bay? 47 per year. You're getting Miles Garrett for the next three years cheaper than what the packers are getting Micah Parsons for one year. You're not trading just for the player, trading for the contract. And that contract is so valuable. That's why if he does get dealt, you're gonna see it be for a massive, massive price tag.
Glenn Stretch Smith
And that's, and that's the thing you got to decide, are you ready to risk reward? What's going to be. I mean, you know what? Three ones, your two this year, both your ones this year and your one next year. Is that kind of, is that kind of where you think the, the, the, the base model is starting?
Marcus Mosher
I think it's going to be three first round picks, but I don't necessarily think that it would be two first round picks this year. Stretch. Because if Cleveland's trading, if they're trading Miles Garrett, the idea is that they're going to use these picks to draft a quarterback. Right. And getting picks 12 and 20 is nice, but that's not going to help you get a quarterback this year. I think they would rather have those picks in upcoming years that they can package and move up for a quarterback. They can't move up for a franchise quarterback in this class. It's not happening. So I mean it's, it's possible that it could be like pick 12 this year, your first round pick next year, and then another in 2028, and you actually get to hold on to pick 20 in this year's draft.
Jeff Biggs
Now.
Glenn Stretch Smith
I mean, yeah, I mean I, I think you gotta, I mean we could sit here and cut this up a lot of different ways. I think the first thing that people are going to say is, and you do realize that that's the first. And I think, Marcus, you make the point. The first rebuttal is going to be, wait a minute, you let Micah, who's younger, what, get out of the building for two ones. Garrett will be 31 when the season starts. Is that correct?
Marcus Mosher
He'll be actually, he'll be 31. I think it's like December 29th. So he'll be 30 throughout the whole season, basically.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Yeah. So that, I mean that you see where I'm saying, though, they're going to, they're going to go ice 31. Right? Right. So that's going to be the first thing. And then it's, well, you're going to give up three ones when you, when you got two ones and Kenny, for Micah. I mean, I'm telling you, here's the exercise that I think needs to be done. I think you have to realistically say, what are your. What do you really believe you're going to get with the two ones this year? What do you really think is realistic? And then how do you manage. Do they. Do you think they want both of those ones this year? I don't think so, because. And only reason I say that, Marcus, is because you're more than one player away from. From. From winning. If they don't want both ones this year, then I think you, you know, you. You think they want one of the ones. They want 12 this year.
Marcus Mosher
I think they want 12 this year. A first round pick next year and then another in 2028 or 2029.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Yeah. So I mean, if you're saying that we then could get, in a sense a Miles Garrett and a linebacker. Miles Garrett and a. Another safety. I mean, the more I cut this up, I think they're fine at safety. If they, if they didn't have to go with the Oregon safety because he would be the best player on the board at that point. At 12, if Reese Styles, Monsieur Delaine and Caleb Downs are gone, then you have to, you have to work the math equation with, with the number that you think is going to be there. And then you have to say, okay, from a risk reward standpoint, does this get us where we want to be in the next two years? Because that's really your window.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah, no doubt.
Marcus Mosher
And it's a fair question. I, I think if you're adding someone like Miles Garrett, and we saw this with Micah when he was here, having a dominant, transcendent player like that can cover up a lot of weaknesses. Like, it can cover up a lackluster secondary. It can cover up maybe a bad linebacker core. But if you're telling me, stretch, hey, you add Miles Garrett to this defense, you add another Cornerback at pick 20, you add maybe a linebacker at 92. I'm not saying this is going to be the 85 Bears or anything like that, but I think the floor just seems so much higher, and now it feels like a team that actually can compete in the NFC does that mean they're going to be the favorites? No, probably not. But you're giving yourself at least a fighting chance where I don't, I think if they don't make this move, you're still on the outside of the top four or five teams in the NFC and it feels like you're just treading water.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Yeah, I, I mean, I'm the same way. But I think the point you made last night when we were talking was, and you can't, you certainly can't operate out of what Philadelphia would want to do. But I mean, I mean, if Philadelphia gets him, it's over.
Marcus Mosher
Or if the Rams get them. Well, and like, the Rams are another team. Like I, we, we know that Les snead and Sean McVeigh are going to be aggressive and they've got this window with Matt Stafford. I could 100 with them having picked 13 being like, take our three first round picks, we'll take Miles Garrett and we'll figure it out on defense there. I, I, here's the, here's the big thing. I do think Miles Garrett's going to be traded. I think the Browns are going to send him to an NFC team into a contender. And if it's not the Cowboys, your path to getting through the NFC is going to get a whole lot harder. So you can try to be frugal here. You can try to say, ah, three first round picks is, is too much when we get to November and that guy's rushing against you, you know, on Thanksgiving, tell me again how valuable those first round picks were.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Right? And especially if you and I can keep doing the math and we can figure out who those first round picks are. Because guess what? Nobody else can. I looked at all these other, I look at all these other draft nicks. Hey, you know what? I'll tell you, I think this podcast has got more information than a lot of those guys have. And I'm talking about on the, I'm talking about on the first round picks. You know, that's not taking anything away from mel Kuiper, Todd McShay or Bucky Brooks or any of those guys that do it. I'm not saying that. What I am saying is I do think that we could come up here on this podcast and we could come up with a better solution and for who we think the Cowboys are going to take. Because I can tell you right now where they sit today, the Dallas Cowboys on 26 March. They don't have any, they don't have any better clue than you or I do, I can tell you that.
Marcus Mosher
Hey Jeff, can I answer a question from the chat really quickly or at least ask it to the group? Yeah, we got one from at D/C 1174. And he wants to know does Miles Garrett fit into a 3, 4 defense? And the answer is absolutely. He's played in a 3, 4 defense before. I, I think Miles Garrett could fit into just about any defense that you could ever come up with. And I think that's the point that I want to, to drive home is he is such a, a transcendent player. I mean I, I love Micah. He's a tier better than Micah, what he can do as a pass rusher. And I think coach, I think he's one of these guys that's just, I don't want to call him an all time great because that's too early. But usually these guys that are playing well at 30 years old like Jerry Rice and Reggie White and Bruce Smith, they tend, they tend to play well into their mid and late 30s. And given that Garrett's six 5, 280 pounds and runs the way he does, I got a feeling he's going to be okay for the next three or four years.
Glenn Stretch Smith
And I'm not even going to remotely push back on that. I'm going to tell you that he is absolutely a guy that as an offense you better get ready to account for him every single snap that he's on the field. I don't give a damn if you're playing a 433-461-Jack Crow diamond. I could give a rip. You better. He's going to get in there and he can rush the passer and stretch.
Marcus Mosher
The other thing is, is Quinn and Williams would be easily the best defensive lineman that Miles Garrett has ever played with.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
You know how much fun or how many one on one opportunities that Quinn and Williams would get inside with Miles Garrett on the outside who is consistently the most doubled and chipped player in the NFL. And I think that's the part that the Cowboys have to figure in. It's like, hey, if we get this guy, all of a sudden Rashan Gary goes back down to being a number two pass rusher. You bring Donovan as a raku off the bench, Kenny Clark can just worry about stopping the run. It just changes the angles on everything for Christian Parker in this defense.
Glenn Stretch Smith
And I, I mean everything, everything changes with Miles Garrett. You, you, you start talking about now you don't have to have that kind of secondary anymore because you know he's getting home I mean, it changes your whole way of thinking and how you look at things.
Jeff Biggs
And I think too, I want to just say this really quick and give you credit, Marcus, for bringing up the financial part of it. I mean, that has to be music to their ears or anybody. I mean, that kind of number is. It just almost doesn't seem real well.
Marcus Mosher
And that having a player like Miles Garrett on that contract would allow you to keep a player like George Pickens. It allows you to keep Quinn and Williams and that's what they were struggling with with Micah. They felt like trading away Micah was going to allow them to keep three or four players that they maybe weren't going to be able to keep. Keep. You're able to get better at that position and keep all these additional guys that you already have under roster or under contract. That's what makes it so appealing.
Jeff Biggs
All right, 100. All right. When we come back, I want to ask you, okay, so we're kicking around, but what about the Cowboys? And let's, let's kind of get into how realistic is it and what they might be thinking. I don't know. We'll do that when we come back. This is the Cowboys squad show. All right, welcome back to the Cowboys squad Show Marcus Mosier along with former Cowboys coach Glenn Stretch Smith. Big rumor of the day, the week, the year, the offseason. The Browns opening up the window a little bit, maybe putting the feelers out for Miles Garrett. Although I agree with you, Marcus, I, I think now that this door is open, it's not going to be closed. There is no way he is going to play for the Browns this season. Barring some kind of a knee injury that we don't know about, he's gone. Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
I mean, unless the Browns are just really holding out for a, you know, three first round picks and more. But I do think, I do think a team's going to come in with a strong offer and yep, I wouldn't be surprised. The Browns really try to reward him. I mean, he's, he's been there for, was it nine years now. I mean, he's kind of paid his dues and I think it makes sense for Cleveland to get those picks and start adding them to the future.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah. All right. So I don't know, coach. I mean, this from your perspective, you know Jerry better than any of us will even come close to, but I mean, this one seems kind of right up his alley. I mean, this seems like
Glenn Stretch Smith
no question. I mean, he is, he is the original riverboat gambler. There's, there's no question about it. I mean, this plays right into his hand. I mean, this is a young man that went to school in Arlington. I mean, can you imagine how they can market this guy? And it would, it would be, you know, it would be, it would be off the, it would be off the chains. Now what I, what, I can't. I guess what I'm saying is what do you think the baseline number starts at to get him? Do you think, do you really believe it's three ones?
Marcus Mosher
Yes. Yes. And it's just because we've already seen Micah get traded for two ones and he needed a new contract immediately. We saw Max Crosby get traded this off season for two first round picks and he was on a, another similar cheap deal. But the difference between Crosby and Garrett.
Glenn Stretch Smith
But he really didn't get, he really didn't get it. I mean, I mean, he didn't. They didn't give up the two ones, you know.
Marcus Mosher
Well, they didn't, I mean, they, okay, they agreed to it. Right. But I think, I think that's at least what, well, we know what the Cowboys offered, right? It was pick 12, a second round pick in Osa Digizua, whether it was their offer. Right. So I, I, I Think when you look at those two offers and you look at Miles Garrett, I think there is a first round pick difference between those players and those contracts. Maybe Cleveland will eventually come down to two number ones and a couple day two picks. But I do think it's going to be three first rounders.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Again, I'm not disagreeing with you, but you have to have somebody that'd be willing to give you that. And I, it's a lot.
Marcus Mosher
I mean, it's a lot. I think, I think it would be the most that any team has ever traded for a defensive player at one time, I believe in NFL history.
Jeff Biggs
Do the Eagles have that kind of, kind of capital to give away and are they suited to pick up somebody like him?
Marcus Mosher
Well, I think the player that has been dangled out there for a while is Jalen Carter. There were some rumors that maybe he was going to be involved in the Max Crosby trade. Maybe instead of three first round picks, it's two first round picks in Jalen Carter or a first round pick and a couple number twos and Jalen Carter. I, I don't know. But the one thing is Howie Roseman is never going to miss an opportunity to be aggressive. Right. And I think they know, given their contract stuff that's coming up in 2029, the next three years are it like the show's over here after the 2028 season. Garrett lines up perfectly with their window and they really need a pass rusher. And Garrett obviously could feel that need.
Jeff Biggs
He is like the, the perfect kind of lifeboat. But I mean, they're kind of, they're kind of, you know, they're, they're, they're circling a little bit. You know, they've been knocked down and they're, they're trying to kind of keep their window going and kind of get their swag back. And he would be like the perfect boost in the arm to kind of give that team juice again.
Marcus Mosher
I don't even want to think about it.
Jeff Biggs
No, it's br. But you're right. I mean, they're gonna, they're, you're right. Howe would do without a doubt. I'm sure he's already working on it right now.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
And I, I think the Rams are the other team to watch just because they have a history of trading away these picks. They've already done it once this off season for Trent McDuffie. I, I, I'm of the belief, Jeff, that I don't think Sean McVeigh is going to be there that much longer. We know Matt Stafford's not going to be there longer if they can go out and trade for. For Garrett and it extends or it gives them a better chance to win a Super bowl this year, next year. I don't think Les needs going to be hesitant to do that at all.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah. Yeah, that's a great point. McVEIGH Probably, I think wants to be with his kids, his young kids and he's got that TV job waiting for him. That'll just blow the market away. So. Yeah, I'm with you. And this is, this is their window here, the next couple years for sure. Yeah. I'm trying to think, you know, like you said, I don't think it's going to be anybody in the NFC even, I mean in the afc, even though they're a couple teams like the jets and Dolphins that have multiple picks. But I don't see them. That he's not a fit there at either of those at all.
Marcus Mosher
No. And we should, we should mention one other little thing.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
The Browns proposed this deal to the NFL that you can trade first round picks from five years out. Right now it's only three years out. We're still waiting to see that gets approved. But I think there was an assumption that oh, the Browns want this so they can trade these first round picks for a quarterback. But I'm wondering if it's the opposite. Maybe they value picks in 2028, 2029 and 2030. Because let's say he, you trade him to the Cowboys.
Jeff Biggs
Okay.
Marcus Mosher
Maybe the Cowboys their windows over in 2028 and they're really bad in 2029. All of a sudden that's a top five pick. Right. I wonder if Andrew Barry, who's very, very much a forward thinker.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
Put that out there to try to get some picks way into the future knowing, hey, once Garrett's gone, that team's just not going to be that good. Don't be surprised if they're more aggressive targeting picks way into the future than picks this year.
Jeff Biggs
Interesting.
Glenn Stretch Smith
I, I mean I. Guys, I think anything is wide open when you look at this. Anything, anything's open. Just this. I mean because I just don't know that we've ever seen a defensive player like this be in this situation. Maybe since Reggie White and that's the
Marcus Mosher
perfect comp for him. Right. Reggie White was one of these 285 pound guys, could play inside, could play outside. Played well into his 30s. Don't miss out on the chance to go get Reggie way and change the trajectory of your franchise. Yeah.
Jeff Biggs
All right. Well, we'll have to wait and see how it, it plays out. But clearly it's not a mystery. And I, I, I believe the Cowboys are the perfect fit. I mean, just, you broke it down perfectly. I mean, no matter how you cut it up, they're, they are the perfect fit in so many, so many different ways. It almost seems like a no brainer, almost seems too good to be true because they are such a good fit. And sadly though, I think, I'm sure the Browns are aware of that. I'm sure, I'm sure the Eagles are aware of that too. And so this is where Jerry has to, this is where his, his skill as a negotiator and a bluffer come into play. And he's got to play it right without blinking.
Marcus Mosher
Here's the other thing, Jeff is we should mention Miles Garrett has a no trade clause. Now I think he would waive that for a couple situations like Philadelphia and the Rams. But if he's dead set on going home, you know, going back to Texas, maybe, maybe the Cowboys wouldn't have to offer three first round picks and more. Maybe it could be two first round picks because he doesn't want to go anywhere else. That there's also the part that maybe Cleveland just wouldn't trade him unless they get a king's ransom. But there's a lot of different angles here that we should pay close attention to as we get further on in the off season. I, I actually believe, I, I don't think he's going to get traded before the draft. I think if it happens, it's going to be happen happen after the draft. So pay attention then. Yeah, really well, because the Browns goal is to get a quarterback, right? Okay, 20, 26 first round picks just aren't that valuable to them because they can't get a quarterback. So they would rather have those assets coming to them in the future. 27, 28, 29 picks are going to be more valuable to them.
Glenn Stretch Smith
So even though I'm not, I'm not, I'm not down that either. But, but I do think from the sounds of this, from this, from the timing that Cleveland has put this out there as far as redoing this, don't you think they want, they want a paved road for the direction they're going? And by the way, I don't think the GM at Cleveland, boy, when you look at the job that they've done financially, it's, it's terrible.
Marcus Mosher
So it's just hard to know how much of it is the GM and how much is it. The owner over there, but I think as a front office, it's been rough. Yes.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Well, I mean, you got to think that, I mean, Jimmy Haslam would have fired Andrew Barry if he didn't have some confidence in him, wouldn't he?
Marcus Mosher
Yes. That's why it makes me think it's the owner that was the one that wanted Deshaun Watson, right?
Jeff Biggs
Oh, yeah, no doubt. For sure. Absolutely. And you don't think, you don't think they like the, the two young guys, Sanders and I'm drawing a blank on the other guy?
Marcus Mosher
Yeah, I think they like him enough to not draft Ty Simpson this year, but I don't think it's going to prohibit them from drafting Arch Manning or Dante Moore next year.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah, right. Okay, fair point. All right. That, that. I'll tell you what though, Marcus. That the no trade clause, that, that's a, that's an, that's an ace. I mean, that's a, That's a real legit.
Marcus Mosher
And Micah kind of pulled that last year. This is why it was difficult for the Cowboys to trade Micah is because for all intents and purposes, Micah had a no trade clause because he just wasn't going to sign with teams that he had no interest in. So these teams like the jets, who the Cowboys were kind of rumored to trade in, Micah didn't want to go to the jets, so he wasn't going to sign a contract. So the jets were never going to give up two first round picks for a guy that wasn't going to sign a contract. And it made the Cowboys have to take a lesser deal than what his value was. Maybe that's the case here for Miles Garrett.
Jeff Biggs
Interesting. Interesting.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Cleveland be interested in Dak.
Marcus Mosher
Get out of here. Get out. No, hey, I, I will, I will say this stretch. I was talking to a Cleveland, I'm gonna say a Cleveland person today. And then we were kind of throwing back trade proposals and they did mention George Pickens. They do need a receiver and it's like, I don't know if that would be the equivalent of a first round pick, but I do wonder if he could be part of a trade package because they have a big need for a receiver. If Pickens is in the deal, maybe it makes it a little bit cheaper.
Jeff Biggs
Wow, man. It's just one more. I'll, I'll move on after this, but man, I mean, it just seems like this is the perfect cowboy Jerry Jones move. I mean, it's just, it just, it
Glenn Stretch Smith
feels like when, when, when, when he went out and said, I'm gonna do everything I could get beyond Sanders. That's exactly what he did.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
The part that would suck is for us try to do content about the draft for the next three years. I have no idea what we would talk about, but we'd figure it out.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah, it's got to be some good seventh round picks. All right.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Relevance.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
Day three picks. Don't you worry, Stretch. I got you.
Jeff Biggs
All right. Well, the Cowboys, since we did our last show, they did make a move on defense. We'll get into that. And head coach Brian Schottenheimer talked about the draft a little bit. Want to get your thoughts on that? We'll do that when we come back. This is the Cowboys squad show. All right. And want to mention too, by the way, don't forget to check out the Everydayer club for ad free episodes and access the group chat with Marcus and Landon and other listeners of the show. Okay. Welcome back to the Cowboy Squad show. Cowboys would Enjoy a little bit of dessert. Adding Miles Garrett, he would be without a doubt the cherry on the Sunday for sure if that were to happen. In the meantime, very quietly, little by little, piece by piece, the Cowboys have been trying to bolster their secondary. And during the week, they signed former Rams and Seahawks corner Darion Kendrick, who. That's with an E, not an R. Marcus, start with you. Do you like the move?
Marcus Mosher
I do like the move. They just needed more bodies on the outside and Kendrick has been a little bit of a high variance corner, but he's played in some good defenses. He's played in a similar style defense, and he's really an outside cornerback shocker. Another Georgia guy that Christian Parker is going after. But I don't think, I don't think the signing of Kendrick is for him to start or really even compete for one of the two outside spots. I think it's just to give you a body so you don't feel like you have to rush to Ron Bland back on the field like you did last year. So now you can have, you can have Kendrick, you can have Kobe Durant, you can have Savon Rebel, and then that way you give, you give Duron Bland some time to, to get ready for training camp. I like Kendrick. I think he can function as a number three, number four cornerback. He's incredibly slow, like, incredibly slow. I think he ran a 4, 7, 7 at his pro day, which is a rough time. But he, he's, he's a fine rotational corner.
Glenn Stretch Smith
I, I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm leaning back. Texas just got beat by two and a heartbreaker. I watch. I've kind of got to take it a gander at that. But I mean, hey, you know what? They need depth at that position. I mean, you got to get, you got to get some bodies. You got to get players. You got to upgrade the position. And I don't think there's any question. I mean, when you look at what the Cowboys played with a year ago, he's an upgrade. He's an upgrade at the position from a depth standpoint.
Marcus Mosher
Yeah, and that's, that's really the point. You also don't want to go into the draft having massive holes. Now. Cornerback is still an issue for them. They need one more outside guy that you feel really good about. But if the draft doesn't fall your way and better players at other positions happen to be there, I think you feel okay going into the season with, with Durant, hopefully a healthier Bland. We'll see about Ravel. In year two, it's just a nice, low risk signing to cover your bases. I believe I saw the contract. It's a veteran minimum contract. If he's bad in training camp, you cut him and it's no big deal. These are the kinds of signings I. I love that the Cowboys make, and usually they end up hitting on a couple of these guys. We'll see about Kendrick.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Yeah, I mean. I mean, what, what, what? We. We constantly talk about risk, reward. What is the risk in this? There's nothing. Zero. So. So, so it's a plus. Plus.
Jeff Biggs
I saw something today out of Minnesota that the Cowboys might be interested or might make a run at some point to Vikings corner Fabian Moreau.
Marcus Mosher
Well, and Moreau is a guy. Yeah, Moreau's a guy that played inside and outside. I believe he went to ucla. He's. He would be another one of these cheap options where it doesn't cost you anything. Although I think they're getting to the point where they. They've got. I think they have enough depth now. Now you need difference makers. You need a guy that you feel really good about. They're not out there in free agency. You're probably not going to trade for them. I think we wait until the draft and then reassess things here in May, you know, once the draft is complete.
Glenn Stretch Smith
All right, man, I couldn't agree with you more. I think they've got. I think they've got enough of those guys. They got to go get some guys on the. Again. They got to get some guys who can. Who are difference makers and who can play. So now we're going to get right back into the draft talk, right? Can they get. Can Delane fall to the Cowboys because he's a day one starter.
Marcus Mosher
I thought you didn't like Delane.
Glenn Stretch Smith
I think he's. I think he's okay. It's not that I don't like him. I'm not. I'm not. At the time. I wasn't shot in the ass with him at 12. But now that I've, you know, now that you see all this, I mean, you know, and then you watch him run a four three and four three eight. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, okay.
Marcus Mosher
Well, it. I like delaying a lot. I'm a big fan, but I. I can acknowledge he's not Patrick Surtan as a prospect. He's not. He's not Jalen Ramsey. I just think he's a.
Glenn Stretch Smith
You're not last.
Marcus Mosher
Yeah, he. Yeah, he's a. He's a good cornerback that I think this Team desperately needs. He's really sticky in coverage. My favorite thing about him, Stretch did not get called for a single penalty last year. I love cornerbacks that don't grab. Yeah, I love cornerbacks that don't grab when the ball is in the air. They don't panic. He's got some other flaws. His arms aren't super long.
Glenn Stretch Smith
I mean, with that being the case, I kind of like whoever was coaching him for Brian Kelly, who was the secondary coach at LSU last year, I don't know.
Marcus Mosher
But his old coach at Virginia Tech, Ryan Smith, is now the Cowboys new secondary coach. So that's, that's pretty good as well. I. We'll see if he's available to the Cowboys at 12, but I think he is one of these guys that you are hoping and praying gets to them because if he's there, it's a home run pick. Day one starter. You feel so much better about your secondary going into camp.
Glenn Stretch Smith
100%. I couldn't agree with you more. I mean that to me now you got him Bland Ravel. I mean you got, you got, you got some guys now that, that you really feel like you can go line up and play with and you feel good play with anybody.
Marcus Mosher
And Jeff, we should mention that Delaine was at the Cowboys facility today doing his 30 visits. So 30 visits don't always mean that you're interested in a player. A lot of times you want to bring them in to meet the staff and meet the other players and tour the facility. But when the Cowboys are looking at these first round guys, usually top 10, top 12 players, it is a level of interest. Just something to know.
Jeff Biggs
And wasn't it also announced that Sonny Stiles is going to be visiting the Cowboys in the near future?
Marcus Mosher
Yes, actually Sunny Styles said it on K. Adams show that he's going to be. Yeah, Omar Cooper Jr. Was at the Star today, the receiver from Indiana. So they're already doing the 30 visits. We should get quite a few of them over the next two weeks and we'll keep you guys up updated here on the podcast.
Jeff Biggs
So. So here's one I, I've seen from a couple of different places, including I want to say bleacher reporter, the athletic. I should, I should write this down, but two different outlets talking about the Cowboys moving up to number three to select Jeremiah Love. Who Coach, I know you've been talking about a lot out of Notre Dame. I mean, obviously I think this was all before the Miles Garrett rumors, but even with that said, I, that, that seems just kind of out of left field to me.
Marcus Mosher
Coach, what do you think? I'm gonna let you go first.
Glenn Stretch Smith
I don't think there's number one. I don't think there's any. The cost to go up to number three would be so crazy. I don't think that happens. Do I think that the Cowboys have options? Maybe, but so do what? There's four other teams with two number ones. So if they're going to go up to three, I, I'd rather him pick Arvale Reese, correct?
Jeff Biggs
Yeah, correct.
Marcus Mosher
I, I would not be shocked. Stretch. If the Cowboys have Jeremiah Love as their highest graded player in this class because he's an awesome running back prospect. He is really, really good. I won't be surprised if they trade up in this draft because I think I would not. I think they're going to want to go get a real difference maker right away. If they trade up to number three for Jeremiah Love, they're going to be needing a new podcast host for the daily Lockdown Cowboys. I'm gonna quit. I will quit. If this team trades two first round picks for a running back when your defense was the worst in franchise history last year. It's. It's something. Hold on, I'm not done yet. It's something. If he falls to 12 and you're like, okay, he's our best player available. It's not a need. It's not a position of value trust. Trading two first round picks is asinine and everybody in that front office should be fired if that's. If that happens.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Well, I'll tell you this, that if I'm not trying to trump what you're saying, that's a trump card. Not the president. Trump that. If he is at 12 and the Cowboys don't pick him, you'll never see me on this podcast medium.
Jeff Biggs
I'm going to be solo. You're both going to be gone.
Glenn Stretch Smith
But listen, I mean, there was this. So hear me this. This is when I'm resigning right now. If, if, if, if that running back Jeremiah Love gets to 12 and the Cowboys don't turn the card in, boys, it. I'm telling you, I'm going to, you know, I'm going to. I'll just go down to Austin with the rest of them and just smoke hippie lettuce the rest of my life, I'm done. I.
Marcus Mosher
Listen, I don't necessarily disagree because he would be so much better in terms of grade than every other player that you have on the board. They just can't afford to trade assets for a Running back. And I mean, you could even make the argument that they can't afford to draft the running back at 12. But it might be a special case of, hey, we have a blue chip, you know, blue grade on him. Or however they're doing their grading scale now. And it's just. It's too good of a player to pass up.
Glenn Stretch Smith
And again, if he's there at 12, you are receiving multiple phone calls. That means multiple, as in more than five. Because, I mean, think about it. And this is not against Ashton Genti. Genti went six a year ago. And this kid is a better player in every category. That's not cutting down. Ashton Genti, he's a better player in every category than Ashton Jetsey, is more physical, he's got better hands, he runs better routes, he sees better, all of it. So look here, that if that happens, if that does happen, your phone is going to blow up with people. And now you, now you're in a position that you really want to be if you're the Cowboys front office.
Marcus Mosher
Just to be clear, you're talking about the Cowboys phone is going to blow up, not mine. Because if they, if they pass on love. How many times are you gonna call me and yell about how bad this.
Glenn Stretch Smith
I'm. No, I'm gonna come on this. I'm gonna come on this show. I'm gonna give your number out.
Marcus Mosher
But did I ever tell you that. Hold on real quick. Did I ever tell you the story about me calling the Cowboys front office during the draft?
Glenn Stretch Smith
I answered the phone.
Marcus Mosher
If they. Yeah, I'm gonna. I'm gonna. You know, I might have to give them a little ring during the draft time this year.
Jeff Biggs
I think so, too.
Glenn Stretch Smith
And look, make yourself transparent. Hey, this is bumbling stumbling. Marcus Mosher and I got Liam right here and buddy, we are banging this board out.
Marcus Mosher
Yeah, pass on that running back right there. Don't worry about that. You don't need one.
Jeff Biggs
But, but in all seriousness, I know the Cowboys are the Cowboys, but, like, where does this stuff come from? Like the Cowboys are going to move up. I. I mean, are these just that.
Marcus Mosher
Because now we're talking about it on this podcast. That's where it comes from. Right? Like, listen, as. As somebody who had to used to have to write these articles, you're just trying to get things that'll be clicky and that people will see. Okay, why. Why are the Cowboys trading up to three? That's it there. The Cowboys have not traded up for a player since Morris in round one, since Morris Claiborne in 2012. Like, they just don't do that. For them to do it for a running back is not going to happen.
Jeff Biggs
All right, and just a final thought on, on the linebacker situation, has anything changed on that front or do you think it's just right now? Focus on the draft and let. There's some veterans out there, but let's just let, let time go by and see where the market falls before we get to training camp and kind of reevaluate.
Marcus Mosher
Then how about this for you, Jeff? One of the questions that Landon and I are going to answer on our next Locked on Cowboys podcast is are the Cowboys better off waiting to trade for a linebacker until after the draft? Are they actually going to get more value once all these linebackers get picked? Make sure you guys tune in for that because we'll give you our answer.
Jeff Biggs
Well, that was, That was a fantastic tease. Although, I mean, usually, though, I mean, don't teams want to have the pick themselves to get who they want?
Marcus Mosher
Well, and I think a good example is what happened last year with George Pickens. Like, the Steelers wanted a top 100 pick before the draft so they could use it on a receiver, right? Nobody was interested. Right. The Cowboys wanted Tedro McMillan at 12. He didn't fall. They didn't think any other receivers in that class were going to be difference makers right away. So they traded two weeks after the draft, a third round pick in a future draft for a guy that they liked, Pittsburgh. Obviously, they've had to, they had to wait a little bit, but the Cowboys were at that point willing to give up a little bit more. So don't be surprised if they do wait and see how the draft plays out, because I don't think what you don't want to do is panic and, you know, give up pick 92 and 112 for a linebacker, and then all of a sudden, Sunny Styles is available at 12 and you've just burned three assets to fix one position on your defense.
Jeff Biggs
All right, quick time out when we come back, Final segment, final thoughts. I want to let you know what head coach Brian Schottenheimer had to say about the draft. We'll do that when we return. And some final thoughts on the Myles Garrett rumors. We'll get into that when we return. This is the Cowboys squad show.

All right, got to talk to you about 5 Hour Energy, because we call it the 5 Hour Energy flavor draft. With 18 different flavors to choose from, including new options like Confetti Craze, Fruity Rainbow, or Cotton Candy, There is something for everyone. And you can actually draft your own flavor, the flavor that you. You want, right? So maybe there's a flavor that's not being mentioned, like one of the original flavors, maybe orange, grape, whatever. But hey, you know what? That could be a sleeper pick, and maybe there's another one that you want to try. So here's what you need to know. Most importantly, five Hour Energy Shots give you a boost with zero sugar, and they have a lot of flavor innovations planned. And for a limited time, they'd love to see you come back and try one of those flavors. So right now, find your new favorite flavor of five hour energy shots available online at FiveHouseEnergy.com or at Amazon. All right, great to be with you. Final segment on this Thursday night. As we are now less than a month away from the NFL draft. Former Cowboys coach Glenn Stretchmith, Marcus Mosher, co host of the daily Lock on Cowboys podcast with Landon McCool. They've been killing it all week. They're going to continue to do so all the way until we get to the draft. Looking forward to that. Speaking of which, Marcus, you. You already know this. YouTube coach Brian Schottenheimer, the head coach, said, hey, you know what? We're. We want to keep it pure when we get into the draft. We want to just go with the best players. We don't want to. He said, kind of what you guys have been saying. You don't want to draft for need. You don't want to get caught up in. Like you said, Marcus desperate. And so that's kind of their approach going in, of course, that a lot of things can happen before then, but good to hear him say that.
Marcus Mosher
I mean, yes. At the same time, what is he gonna say? No, we're gonna be, we're gonna be reaching for needs. Guys. We didn't do a good job in free agency. Our front office sucks. So we've got to reach now. I mean, yeah, I mean, it would be nice to hear coach be honest about how awful their off season went at one point. But I do, I do think, for the most part, they tend to draft the best players available. And I think, like, a good example is thought of in Ezraku. Last year, we thought they needed a running back in round two, maybe a receiver. They didn't draft either. They drafted an edge rusher. They already had a bunch of edge rushers on their team because, remember, at that time they had Micah Parsons, they had a lot more depth as a Rocket was the highest player on the board. They took him. So I, generally they do a good job of not reaching, but we'll see this year. I mean, they've got significant needs at defensive end, linebacker, corner. If an offensive player is the best player on the board, will they take them? What if it's Carnell Tate? What if it's an offensive lineman? We'll see. We're going to talk about that a little bit more on Friday's episode of the Lot Done Cowboys podcast. So check it out.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Yeah, I mean, but the, the off season that they had is causing them to be very focused in on one side of the football and specifically one or two positions. And so I, you know, we can, we can kick their rear if we want to, but I mean, I, you know, I want to wait till this draft is over. I want to see how they do it because I do think there is, I really believe there's some trade, I think there's some trade possibilities here that could, that could flip the script with, with how people see this Cowboys front office.
Marcus Mosher
Do you think, do you think they're more likely to trade up or down in the first round of this draft? Stretch.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Down.
Marcus Mosher
Down.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Okay.
Marcus Mosher
So I, I tend to agree with you if you are looking to trade down. I don't, we don't have to get into specific names of players, but if they want to trade down, I would assume that means the Cowboys want wide receivers to be available and offensive tackles to be available when they're on the clock. Because those are generally the two positions that other teams will come up and give picks for to come get. Correct.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Correct. Yes.
Marcus Mosher
Yeah.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Yeah. I mean, I, I, you're, you're. The Cowboys are going to have ample opportunity, I believe, to move out of 12. Whether it's somebody wanting to get at Simpson, whether it's somebody falling down, whether it's another receiver, they're going to have ample opportunity there. And the reason I think that it's most that it's likely that they do that is because I still believe that the top four defensive guys that the Cowboys target or covet are not going to be there at 12.
Marcus Mosher
And the other thing that we should mention, the two teams drafting behind them, Rams and Ravens, those are two teams that have been rumored to be in the market for a wide receiver. So if you are the jets at 16 or the Steelers at 21 or the Browns at 24. Maybe you don't want to wait and see who is available. Maybe you want to try to get up in front of those teams because you don't want to be drafting the fourth and fifth best receivers in this class. And I, I think the Cowboys would be willing to take a little bit less to move down than in previous years. Maybe they would move from, you know, picks, you know, pick 12 to 21 and it would only cost them, you know, a third and a fourth within usual other years that might be a second round pick. I, I think the Cowboys are going to get plenty of offers. We'll see if they take one.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Yeah, I, I, I really do believe that. I think that there's going to be, I believe there'll be multiple offers there and, and take the best one and, and you know, there, there's going to be somebody slip. I really believe that. I just don't think it's the defensive guys. I think it's more likely to be
Marcus Mosher
an offensive guy if there, if there's an offensive guy at wide receiver that carries a really high grade for you. Do you even consider it at all? Or is this where we go back to. Your need is too great on the defensive side of the ball and you've got to take it or you've got to trade down.
Glenn Stretch Smith
I think if it's, if he's the best player that's up there, if you graded him the best, if you feel the best about him, I would have no problem if that, if that's the direction that they go. Not at all.
Marcus Mosher
I think it depends, I think it
Glenn Stretch Smith
depends on the position, fellas. I don't want to see him reach for need. I don't, I, like, I, I watched it too many, I watched it too long. I, I mean I, I don't want to start calling roll on those guys
Marcus Mosher
because I mean you want to ruin my childhood. When you guys drafted Ebenezer Ecubon and Pepe Zellner and I mean, you know, all these first round picks, I was devastated about Kavika Pittman. I'm gonna keep going. Dwayne Goodrich.
Glenn Stretch Smith
No. Okay. I'm glad you're doing it instead of me.
Jeff Biggs
You know, we haven't, we haven't talked a lot about receivers on this show. You, I know you and Landon have, but. Because we think of, we think of CD and Pickens. But how is this a deep receiver draft? Or is it so, so I tend
Marcus Mosher
to really like this receiver class. I, I Think it's really good. Now, there's not a Jamar Chase or Malik Neighbors level prospect, but I'm a big fan of Carnell Tate and Mai Lemon. I think those are two really good receivers. I think the problem with Lemon is he kind of plays the same position position CD Lamb does, which is primarily a slot receiver, so I don't know how well he would fit in here. But Carnell Tate, I think, is an awesome outside receiver who can play the Z spot. He can play the X spot. And the idea is, let's draft Carnell Tate, play him with George Pickens and CD Lamb for a year, and then we'll figure it out in 2027. It's not my preferred way to draft, but you're also getting a heck of a player at a position that matters, so I wouldn't poo poo that either.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Well, I'm drawing a blank on. What's the Arizona State receiver's name?
Marcus Mosher
Jordan Tyson, Another really, really good receiver prospect. He just can't stay healthy.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Right. So. So, so, I mean, but. But I think he's right there with those. I mean, he's right there after that first tier. I mean, so, you know, at 12, too rich. But maybe not at 20.
Marcus Mosher
I. I am a big Carnell Tate fan. I. I think he's a better prospect than Teo McMillan was last year, and that's a guy that the Cowboys really liked, and I was hoping it was going to fall to them to 12. He went to eight to Carolina. I think he's going to go high in this draft. I think he goes either six to Cleveland or it would be eight to the Saints. But if he's there at 12, at least. I think you have to at least have a conversation about it.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah, I agree. I think that's fair. No doubt. All right, so as we. We close out this Miles Garrett rumor, I'm just wondering that it's kind of out there now, how long it takes to kind of get going. I know you said you think it might not happen until after the draft and they have to give teams time to make offers. But at the same time, usually, sometimes once these things see the light of day, it.
Glenn Stretch Smith
It can.
Jeff Biggs
It can move quick.
Marcus Mosher
Yes, it can move quick. I. I don't think it's going to happen during the draft. I honestly, I think it's going to happen after. But I actually had a quick question for. For stretch. I'm not sure if you knew this, but the NFL actually changed how much time each pick is this year. It used to be. I mean, I remember the days when it was 15 minutes per pick, Stretch. I'm sure you remember that. And then it was 10. This year it's down to 8. And my question for you is, do you think we're going to see more teams have these predetermined trades where, hey, this guy's on the clock. We'll trade you this pick because there's just not enough time to negotiate a trade in eight minutes.
Glenn Stretch Smith
I mean, you have to be jockey in that, don't you? And if you're not, then you're. You're. You're going to put yourself behind eight ball a little bit. So I do think that you're going to see every NFL team is going to be going through the process of mock drafting and what if scenarios and then. Oh, by the way, what is, you know, what. What is it going to take to get
Marcus Mosher
up? I think Stretch froze on us. That's all right.
Jeff Biggs
Frozen Stretch.
Marcus Mosher
That's all right. I. The part that I like is it's going to speed up the draft. That makes. Should make the draft an hour faster, at least in that first night. But yeah, I think. I think you're going to have to have these trades done a couple days before the draft. Otherwise you're just not going to get them done.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Yeah, the point I was making is you got to have you. You. There are going to be multiple teams that will be in position to say, hey, you know what? Let's say you get to about seven or eight pick seven or eight. They're going to be. They're going to be picking up the phone at that time and calling the Cowboys. Right. 20 minutes before that, 18 minutes before that pick.
Marcus Mosher
When you're picks nine and 10. Right. Like, hey, this, this is what we're offering. If our guys there.
Glenn Stretch Smith
Let's make. Correct. And. And I think there will be some exploratory phone calls before. Before the draft starts.
Jeff Biggs
Yeah, no doubt. Well, we shall see. Real quick, are you guys fans of being able to trade draft picks beyond three years that the Browns are proposing? Do you like that?
Glenn Stretch Smith
No, no.
Marcus Mosher
I have mixed feelings on it. I, I generally know. But let's see how it plays out.
Jeff Biggs
Okay. All right. And one final thought. The. The Tush push didn't get off the ground. So it's back. It's coming back. Great.
Marcus Mosher
So excited about that stupid playback.
Glenn Stretch Smith
The guy that coached. It's the. The guy that coaches. It's taken out. It's like time off this year. So it'll be interesting to see if they're successful in Philadelphia without Jeff Stoutland coaching it.
Marcus Mosher
Yeah. And Philadelphia just wasn't as good with it last year as they were in previous years. So maybe it just won't be that big of a deal. I, I always thought that they were going to figure out ways to use a quarterback sneak, even if the twist push wasn't a thing, but I, it's
Jeff Biggs
not really a big deal. All right, before we go, Marcus, one more time, tell us what is coming up on the daily Lockdown Cowboys podcast with you and Landon.
Marcus Mosher
Yeah, I mean, for first of all, on our Friday show, we're going to be talking about can you draft an offensive player at 12 if he's the highest graded player? We're going to also talking about, we'll also talk about the linebacker issue. How do they solve it? We'll talk about Duron Bland's health. And then on Monday's episode, we're looking at some, we're going to call them under the radar pass rushers that the Cowboys might target at 20 or maybe in a trade back. So be on the lookout for those two shows coming up soon.
Jeff Biggs
Beautiful. Great job, my man. Keep up the great work with Landon. Love you guys. We'll do it again next week. Coach, thank you. Late night for you. We appreciate it. And stay tuned because going to be a lot of news before April, before the draft, but also I'm sure, before our next show. So anyway, thank you everybody for getting in. Thank you for all of your comments. Thank you for listening and watching. This has been the Cowboys squad show.

This episode dives deep into the blockbuster possibility: could the Dallas Cowboys trade for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett? With a new contract structure in Cleveland potentially paving the way for a trade, the hosts break down what a move for Garrett would mean—cost, fit, rivals' interest, and Jerry Jones’ appetite for a splashy deal. Later, the crew analyzes the Cowboys' recent additions at cornerback, potential draft strategies, trade-up/down scenarios, and reactions to draft rumors swirling around Dallas.
"Most of the time…if somebody’s offering me $26 million and says wait six months, I probably say no... This is a big deal because it does put a trade on the table." (03:14)
"Trading three first round picks for any non-quarterback is unheard of. But... you’re not trading just for the player, you’re trading for the contract. That contract is so valuable."
– Marcus Mosher (05:35)
“You can try to be frugal here... but when we get to November and that guy’s rushing against you on Thanksgiving, tell me again how valuable those first round picks were.”
– Marcus Mosher (11:56)
Jerry: "original riverboat gambler," “this plays right into his hand” (20:12).
Cowboys are a “perfect fit” for Garrett – homecoming, marketing, defense impact.
Cost Clarified
“Don’t miss out on the chance to go get Reggie White and change the trajectory of your franchise.”
– Marcus Mosher (25:38)
Rumor: Cowboys Trading Up for RB Jeremiah Love?
"If [Cowboys] trade two first round picks for a running back when your defense was the worst in franchise history…everyone should be fired." (41:15)
Drafting a CB at #12?
Trading Down More Likely Than Up
Best Player Available Philosophy
The Cowboys are seriously in the mix for a potentially league-altering trade for Myles Garrett, thanks to a rare contract setup and the Browns’ team-building struggles. The price will be steep: likely a historically rich package of first-rounders. The real stakes: if Dallas blinks, a rival like the Eagles or Rams could tilt the NFC balance of power. The hosts are clear—this is a rare, franchise-changing move and worth the cost.
Meanwhile, Dallas continues to prudently bolster its secondary depth but will need draft fortune or aggressive moves to land instant-impact starters, especially on defense. Trading down out of #12 is the most plausible move, unless a blue-chip prospect falls. Don’t believe the RB trade-up buzz. As always, Jerry Jones remains the wildcard.
