We are talking NFL draft news. Jermad McCoy visits the Cowboys over the weekend. We're going to talk about our favorite cornerback options in Round one. But Layla, let's start with the big news that broke on Sunday night. Ruben Bane, the star pass rusher for Miami apparently was in an accident in 2024 that resulted in a fatality. He was also charged with reckless driving in 2025. Now both of those cases have been dismissed. We've heard rumblings for this for a couple weeks now. How much do you anticipate this impacting his NFL draft stock?
Landon McCool
Well, I don't know like I think it will impact the media's, you know, consensus board potentially. But I am assuming that teams have obviously known about this for, you know, for months or since the beginning since because you and I, like I said, heard whispers about this weeks ago. You know, this wasn't exactly the kind of thing that felt like it was report worthy because first of all it's not like a legal case. So it's not in threatening their ability to play football and frankly doesn't seem like our business. But now that it's out in the consensus, I think now folks are going to start affecting their boards potentially about it. But I think for the teams, they've had this knowledge for a While now, and I'm sure every team kind of has a different opinion about the situation in general. So I think maybe it affects our, you know, some mock drafts, but I don't know how much it's going to move the needle for the teams, actually.
Marcus Mosher
So we've seen variations of this kind of thing happen. A couple weeks before the NFL draft, we had Jalen Carter who got into a car accident and there was some issues there. You had a Larry Tunsil the night of the draft, there was a video leaked of him. Yeah, yeah, I think it was that night where there was a video of him in a gas mask. Tunel fell to, I believe 12 or 14. Jalen Carter fell to nine. It seems like Reuben Bane stock was already starting to fall a little bit. Now that could be because of this behind the scenes kind of T teams knew this and it was starting to get relayed to insiders and reporters and all that kind of stuff. Do you think he is now somebody that could be in range of falling to the Cowboys at 12?
Landon McCool
Yes, I do think it's possible that he could be in range. You know, he, he has been one of these guys that we've talked about as of those six defenders that we feel like are the kind of top tier of available defenders. He, he and Caleb Downs have been the two guys that you felt like have a real shot to make it to you at 12 without having to move around at all. Now the question becomes like, how do the Cowboys feel about this situation and what's, what's their take on this? Because if, if, you know, he may not be an option for them if they're really concerned about this whole situation. It's hard to know how teams are going to gauge this because, you know, just based on the report from Ali, like it sounds like there were, there's been a couple of incidents he hasn't been arrested for, for any kind of possession or. None of them were nothing like UI specifically. It's all just reckless driving. Two different reckless driving counts. Obviously someone passed away a good friend of his, it sounds like, which is absolutely horrible. And I think there are certain elements of that, like where is he mentally about dealing with something like that? And. But I think again, the teams have had this for a while now, so, you know, they've kind of correlated and absorbed all this information. I, I agree with your take just a second ago when you're saying that. I think if anything it's insiders kind of, you know, the trickle down of information from NFL teams has finally reached the Insiders and that's why you started to see teams kind of, or at least insiders and folks that are, you know, doing these mock drafts, kind of hedging a little bit and starting to drop him in their, in their mox a little more often.
Marcus Mosher
I don't know how to feel about this. I, I think Reuben Bane, for the most part it seems like he's a high character player. Now he's had some incidents that I think some teams are going to want maybe better answers from him, more clarity. But I, I wonder with the relationship with BT Jordan, who is the Cowboys pass rush coach? He's been working out with him basically throughout this entire process. The Cowboys need an edge rusher, but we also got some information from Dane Brugler and a couple other sources that there are some teams inside the top 10, top 12 that view him as a defensive tackle. And I wonder if the Cowboys could be one of those teams. And I just don't see him being a strong fit in a multiple defenses defense tackle. Like if you wanted him to be like your three technique or a guy that you kick inside on, like on passing downs, I could see that. I don't know, a little. That's just a long way of me saying, I, I don't know what would happen if he fell to 12. I don't know if he is a sprint to the podium pick for Dallas.
Landon McCool
Yeah, it's, I mean, again, Dane being very tricky by saying top 10, top 12 when the Dallas Cowboys are 12 really kind of dropping that subtle hint about Dallas maybe being one of those
Marcus Mosher
teams that could be Miami.
Landon McCool
Could be. Miami. Could be, could be, could be. But yeah, so I don't know. You're right. Like, I don't know. Like again, it's, you add it to the list of things about the Dallas Cowboys specifically and how they feel about Reuben Bane of, of things that I don't know. You know, how do you, how do they feel about the ARB length? How do they feel about, you know, this incident that we just discussed. It's just how do they feel about his play overall, this level of dominance in these games? Like, well, you know, what's really hard
Marcus Mosher
is like so the, the sack numbers are not there of what you would like typically like from like a top 10 pick. That doesn't mean he wasn't awesome last year because he was. But he doesn't have elite production. He didn't do any athletic testing at the combine or the pro day. He has historically short arms. And you wonder like, is this a Guy that can play in a 3, 4 if you're dropping, if you're playing out wide. I think so. I love the Reuben Bay. Like, I think he's an awesome player. I don't know how that front office feels and if, I mean here's the, here's the issue that I'm running into. Landon. I don't know how to root on draft night when it comes to the Cowboys pick at 12 because there's part of me that thinks Caleb Downs is just a way cleaner prospect. But I have a hard time seeing both Downs and Bane falling to the Cowboys at 12. I'm kind of hoping Bain goes ahead of Dallas because I think that's more likely that to push down, down the board. I don't know. I, honestly I, I don't know what to think.
Landon McCool
Yeah, again, I mean we're not necessarily commenting on our opinion on Bane here when we're talking about this, but I do think these things are points that are easy to make if you are arguing against Bane in that war room with Jerry Jones. So yeah, I mean, again, I, I think it just another, you know, another. Just point towards the, the, the fact that this is a class in which even the very top players of this draft have something, have multiple somethings that just make them not exactly clean prospects. There's just not very many truly clean prospects in this draft.
Marcus Mosher
So one of our shows last week we did some NFL draft rumors and one of the rumors out there was that the Cowboys were willing to trade up in this draft and one of the targets would be Reuben Bane. And you and I kind of pushed back on that last week and I feel even stronger now. Like, I mean the Cowboys have known about this, right? I just don't think this is a player that number one, they're going to trade up for. Number two, I don't think you necessarily need to. Like, I think there's a very good chance he's available at or around with the Cowboys pick.
Landon McCool
Yeah, I, I tend to agree. I don't know that this is a trade up player at this point. The question still remains whether the Cowboys would even take them if he was there at 12.
Marcus Mosher
What do you think if you had to, if you had to guess right now, would you think they would take him if he's there at 12?
Landon McCool
I, I think it would be hard not to. I mean, I think he's. The likelihood that he isn't a tier above the, the next best player on the board at the point you pick at 12 just seems very unlikely to me.
Marcus Mosher
What if they drafted Mezador ahead of him? Akeem Ezor? Because that's a last thing Dame Brugler said. There are teams out there that have Mezdor ahead of Bane or around Bane. Any chance you could see that happening?
Landon McCool
I mean, anything could happen. So maybe. I. I certainly would love to hear the the reasoning. And I think the reasoning would probably be a lot of what we just discussed in this first segment.
Marcus Mosher
You might have to find a new podcast host. That happens.

Jad McCoy, the Tennessee cornerback who is coming back from a torn acl, who we've heard that the Cowboys are out on, just no interest at all at 12, visited with the team over the weekend. What do you make of that?
Landon McCool
Well, there's a lot to think there. Right. Obviously we've heard previously that they were out on him and, and I think that that was well, previous to him doing his workout at Tennessee. And, and you know, obviously since this announcement that he's coming to visit with Cowboys. So the, the, the, the interesting thing here to me is the kind of sequence of events, right like that it feels like he had the pro day and then after the pro day is when the Cowboys reached out to schedule a visit with him. So the question I have is, is this the Cowboys trying to get a second medical recheck on this knee to see where it's at? Because, look, my whole concern with this situation, I think I've been very clear, is that if McCoy has to is not healthy yet or, you know, is there a possibility that he's going to need more surgeries? We've seen it before with guys like Trayvon Diggs. I don't want to necessarily go with that, go to that whole situation again. So if they feel like, if they clear him and they feel like it's safe, even with this timeline we've seen, that really changes a lot of the angles on a lot of things, honestly, including his, you know, value to the Cowboys. And suddenly you're talking about a player that is reasonable, another reasonable pick at 12 if you have cleared his knee. Now that's a really big if. I think that's why the Cowboys are probably having him in again to have a look.
Marcus Mosher
The only thing I would say about the knee is wouldn't they already get that information? Because he was going to be a medical recheck at Indianapolis, which I think happened last week. So, like, are you really using that visit for more information on the knee or maybe that that recheck came back, you know, well, and now they, they suddenly want to get him in. I think he was one of the last 30 visits.
Landon McCool
It could be that, right, where maybe they got more information. They saw him run on it a little bit. They. I'm assuming they had scouts at the Tennessee pro day. In fact, we got reports that they did. So, yeah, I mean, I think there is a possibility that maybe they got the. That. That the medical rechecks came back more positive or.
Marcus Mosher
And.
Landon McCool
Or the. The pro day gave them more hope. And it's now just about them doing the diligence on this player that before, previously they had just kind of written off because of the situation with the snee.
Marcus Mosher
Do you think there's any chance they're playing possum here a little bit? Like, hey, we're bringing in Jermod McCoy. If you don't come up and take him ahead of us, Baltimore or Tampa Bay, this is who we're going to draft, a 12. I wonder if that's out there a little bit as well.
Landon McCool
Certainly. It certainly is possible that, that they could be just trying to entice a team to go above them to pick a player that they don't intend picking. That's certainly because they've done that before.
Marcus Mosher
They've done. They've brought in guys that they've had no interest in drafting just to try to throw off the scent a little bit. And honestly, it makes a lot of sense because you see a lot of mock drafts right now, even from national insiders, where they're connecting McCoy to Dallas. And maybe this is just, hey, we're going to check off this box. It just gives us another name that maybe somebody would want to come up for. Again, we're just. We're fishing here. We're trying our best. But if he is clear, and this is what I wanted to ask you.
Landon McCool
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
If he's somebody that the Cowboys feel like, you know what, we're good. I think. We think he's going to be fine. He passes all the personality checks and the fit is he. Now somebody for you at 12 that you would be willing to take over a Reuben Bane over a Dylan Thienaman, a Caleb Downs
Landon McCool
Thienaman, probably. Okay, Bane. I feel like. I feel like Bane and him would probably be like, you know, touching tag situation because I think Bane, you know, I trust that production and everything he's done. And. And on the other end of the spectrum is McCoy, where he, you know, he has all the physical traits and the upside there, if he can stay healthy, if there's no health issues. But he also has the tape because this 24 tape was incredible. So I, I think, you know, a couple. I would probably put him Dead middle in some of that group. But, but not over.
Marcus Mosher
What about, what about Monsoon Delaney? Would you put him ahead of Monsoon Delane again? I think assuming that they checked everything
Landon McCool
out, I think I would probably take Monster delane over, over McCoy just because I think he's a better, He's a more of a sending player. I could trust that more right away. I, I don't know. Like again, even if McCoy is healthy long term, he hasn't played football in a really long time. So I, I know that, that Delaney comes in here probably much more ready to go than McCoy.
Marcus Mosher
All right. Another player that the Cowboys brought in on an interview is d' Angelo Pons, the cornerback from Indiana. And the reason why we're highlighting him is he is so different than every other cornerback that we've mentioned so far. Landon, because this is not a big corner. And it's not to say that the Cowboys have been all out on these smaller corners because they did sign a couple of them. Yeah. Over the last couple weeks. But D' Angelo Ponce, 5, 085. That means 5, 8 and a half, 180 pounds, 29 and 38 inch arms, a 72 inch wingspan, and that is by far, by far the smallest in the entire cornerback class.
Landon McCool
Yeah. Yeah. And, and he's, you know, most consider him to be probably a slot guy. Right.
Marcus Mosher
But I think he really doesn't play a lot in the slot.
Landon McCool
It's mostly he hasn't played much of the slot. I mean, that's the thing about it. Right. But he, and he ran like a 425 or something like, or probably a 429, honestly, with everything. But so incredibly fast guy, obviously. So I, I think that, you know, and you watched him in Indiana and he's one of the guys, I'm pretty sure that that came over from James Madison with, with Signetti as well. So I mean, obviously there's some history there and Signetti is clearly one of the best talent evaluators in the whole sport at this point. So I do think that there's some, you know, some, some oomph to his name. Like there's some, there's some, there's some things backing him, especially his tape looks incredible. He was an incredibly fun player to watch all throughout the college football season last year, but the concern was always going to be like, how does a player that size translate to the NFL? How well can you get a translation? I think he has the speed and athleticism clearly to get there, but his size is extremely outlier. Like extremely so in an era for a team that is used to kind of drafting bigger corners, even with this exception that they they have made this year. This would be an extreme readjustment to the the other way. And I would be really shocked that if the Cowboys ended up taking him. Not that I don't think he's a
Marcus Mosher
good player, but he's a phenomenal player, one of my favorite players to watch. But I don't, I don't think he's an outside corner in the NFL because you just can't live being that small on the outside. And it's from everything we heard, Christian Parker wants a bigger slot defender and you can't get much smaller than d' Angelo Pons in your secondary. So I don't know what to think. I don't know.
Landon McCool
Yeah, I honestly don't know either. It's interesting. Maybe, maybe the interest is that, you know, you think he's a guy that might end up on another team that you're that you just kind of want to get insight on. Who knows with this situation?
Marcus Mosher
I know it's a lot of this podcast, we just don't know. But that's why we love the draft. There's so much stuff that happens that we're just, we're guessing here. Welcome back to the Lot on Cowboys Podcast. We'd like to thank you for making us your first listen of the day. Landon. I want to talk about some of the cornerbacks the Cowboys have brought in for visits because they have brought in outside of just McCoy and Monsoon Delaine. I'm going to name the player and their current consensus ranking. Avion Tural, 24th overall, Colton Hood, 35th overall, Brandon C. Say, 39th overall, Chris Johnson, 41st overall, D' Angelo Pons, 55th overall, Keante Scott, 65th overall and Traden Stuks, 67th overall. It's pretty clear they're hunting cornerbacks with that second pick. Now, whether that ends up being at 20 or 39 or 45, I don't know, but it seems like that's what they're targeting here.
Landon McCool
Yeah, I mean, it seems like there is a run of those guys that they like and they're at least investigating that run to see exactly, you know, which one of those folks that they would target if they got into the range there. And look, several of those names I think are, are in play at 20 for sure.
Marcus Mosher
Yes.
Landon McCool
And, and some of them are probably more names for if you missed on your first two picks and you're picking in, you know, with 39 or something or. Yeah, what's the, what's the, what's the next pick? 93, I think it is.
Marcus Mosher
Oh, I was, I was using 39
Landon McCool
because that's, yes, it's a trade back. Yes, obviously. And I think that is a possibility too. I mean, I think that they are investigating guys in that kind of early second round area and I think that's because they, you know, they have probably some offers on the table or, or at least they are targeting the idea of trading back at some point and picking up a pick in that area.
Marcus Mosher
I should also mention, I mean, Emmanuel McNeil Warren from Toledo is also on that list and I kind of view him as like a big slot now. He's, he's going to be listed as a safety. But let's talk about our favorite cornerback options at 20. Assuming Delane and McCoy are off the board by the time the Cowboys are on the clock at 20 between Colton Hood, Brandon C. Say, Chris Johnson, Ponds, Keonte Scott, who would be your favorite of that group at 20?
Landon McCool
It would be Chris Johnson. I think I Mean, he's, I think he's just a very clean prospect. Like you and I are obviously really big fans. He's, he's one of the guys that I watched very early on and it just felt like, man, I, I haven't got my, my, my prospect eyes yet ready because I'm having a hard time seeing kind of a lot of the holes in his game. And then I watched a couple other guys and I'm like, nope. My pro, my eyes are fine. I think that guy's just pretty clean. I kind of feel like it really the biggest knock on him, it's just that he played at San Diego State and I think teams know about him. It's not, that's not the case, but it's more just that you didn't get an opportunity to see him against a ton of elite talent. So I think that that's, you know, makes the evaluation a little bit tougher. But again, you only play who you play and he didn't, you know, use that as an excuse for having up and down play. He was very consistent, I felt like, and played, you know, was able to get his hands on the ball and has all the kind of makeup that you want to kind of grow, grow into an NFL role.
Marcus Mosher
He's a four year senior, but he's only 21 years old, so a lot of experience. That's my favorite at 20 as well. If that's the pick, I would absolutely love it because I do think he's a day one starting cornerback on the outside. But if it's not Johnson, who's the next corner that you would like and again, the options in that range. Avion, Terrell, Colton Hood, d' Angelo Pons,
Landon McCool
Brandon C. Say, I think it's probably Colton Hood. I mean again, I think Terrell would be normally my choice obviously, but my concerns still stay there with the speed and a little bit. And again, like if the Cowboys were comfortable with that, with that and they got a different number, or if they got some other testing that they feel comfortable with, then I would, I wouldn't be upset.
Marcus Mosher
Look slow on tape to you.
Landon McCool
I worry about his ability to kind of keep up in the, in the long speed game. I guess it would depend on what you plan to do with him, right? Like I, I think I would. If you plan to play him outside, I would have some concerns. Like, I just think that he's not,
Marcus Mosher
he's not big either if you're gonna play him in a slot.
Landon McCool
And that's, that's the real problem, right, is that because he's not big and he's not fast, it's hard to, to make yourself, to convince yourself that he's gonna be the outlier that overcomes. Right. Because it's just, it's not that he isn't a good player. It's just, that's a very hard argument to make. I think CC is a guy that we've talked very little about, but we've, you know, we, we did cover him early on in the process. I just feel like he isn't as developed as I would like to see. I think he's got a little bit further to go to kind of becoming an, a full time NFL starter. I would be, I think he's a guy that you, you would draft and he probably would end up starting for you halfway through the season. Right. Like he just needs a little bit more Runway to kind of develop into being a guy that's consistent enough to do, do that. Who is the other one? D' Angelo Ponce. Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
So I think for us the, probably the rankings would be Johnson, Hood, Terrell Pond, C. Say. Is that the list for you?
Landon McCool
Yeah. Pawns is interesting. I definitely like pawns more than C. Say, but I, I would have a lot of questions about exactly what's, what is the plan, especially on this defense with Johns. But, but I like him a lot more as a prospect for sure.
Marcus Mosher
And I'm kind of lukewarm on Colton Hood. Like if he's, if he's the pick at 20, I get it. He's young, he played in the SEC, he's a really good tackler. He can be a little grabby at times, but you're betting on the traits and again, if you're gonna do that at a position, do it at corner, especially on young players. So again, I get it. I think as of right now that we're what, just over a week away from the draft. Week and a half away. I almost expect a pick at 20 to be the corner, to be a corner. But whether that's Johnson, whether it's Hood, and my guess is they're going to use that 12th pick to try to get either probably one of Styles downs. We'll see about Bane. That's probably the short list of what you're doing at 12.
Landon McCool
Yeah, I mean that sounds right to me. And, and, and look, I think you got Cowboys have a couple of good options because I mean especially like we just listed at the back half of 20, like I, I, we ranked those guys that way but man, I would feel really comfortable about taking especially Johnson. I feel great about 20. I feel good about taking hood at 20. Like especially with the makeup of the cornerback room right now. I think I would feel good about a multiple of those back of the half first round guys, the second round guys that we talked about.

Episode Title: Fallout: Will Dallas Cowboys Target Rueben Bain After Off-Field Incident Comes To Light?
Date: April 13, 2026
Hosts: Marcus Mosher & Landon McCool
In this episode, Marcus and Landon dive into the major NFL Draft news around Miami pass rusher Rueben Bain, who was implicated in a past off-field incident. The hosts analyze how this revelation could affect Bain’s draft stock and whether the Dallas Cowboys will consider him at pick 12. They also discuss the Cowboys’ confirmed prospects visits, notably Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy, and break down their favorite cornerback options in Round 1 and beyond. The conversation features plenty of insightful context, speculation, and inside-baseball reflection on how the Cowboys might navigate a challenging draft landscape.
Background: Rueben Bain, Miami pass rusher, was tied to a 2024 accident resulting in a fatality and a 2025 reckless driving charge. Both cases were dismissed, but the news went public shortly before the draft.
Impact on Bain's Stock:
Precedents:
Cowboys' Position at Pick 12:
“I love the Reuben Bain… he's an awesome player. I don't know how that front office feels and if... I don't know what would happen if he fell to 12. I don't know if he is a sprint to the podium pick for Dallas.”
— Marcus Mosher (07:13)
On the uncertainty of draft evaluations:
"I know it's a lot of this podcast, we just don't know. But that's why we love the draft."
— Marcus Mosher (20:31)
On the lack of “clean prospects” in the 2026 class:
“Even the very top players of this draft have something… that just make them not exactly clean prospects.”
— Landon McCool (08:15)
On using prospect visits for strategy:
"Certainly is possible... they could be just trying to entice a team to go above them to pick a player that they don’t intend picking. That’s certainly because they’ve done that before."
— Landon McCool (15:46)
