Mansoor Delaine dominated his pro day on Monday. We'll tell you why that could be bad news for Dallas next.

Marcus Mosher
Dallas Cowboys podcast, part of the Locked on podcast network. Your team every day. Welcome back. I am your host, Marcus Mosher. He is Landon McCool. And on today's show, we're talking about NFL Pro Days. On Monday, there were a couple big ones that the Cowboys attended, including Miami's and LSU's. We're also going to talk about an offensive line lineman in round one for Dallas. What in the world? We'll get to that later in the show. But Landon, I want to start with LSU's Pro Day because one of the fun things about the draft and frustrating things about the draft is you fall in love with these players, right? Like for me, I've loved Monsieur Delaine throughout this entire process. I know you love Sonny Styles. You. You watch these guys, you get excited. You see them mocked to the Cowboys at 12 and then they go on to big, have big combine performances or big pro day performances and they end up out testing their draft spots, right? Or the Cowboys draft spots. It seemed like that might be the case here for Monsoon Delaine, the LSU cornerback who ran somewhere between a 4, 35 and a 4, 38 official. If you're watching with us on YouTube, official 40 yard dash, there are a lot of people that were projecting him to run in like the High four fours, low four fives. He checks the speed box now, and now there's a chance that he's not going to be available to the Cowboys at 12. What are your thoughts?
Landon McCool
Yeah, I mean, I mean, again, I think you laid it out pretty good. I mean, this is, this is what happens every year, right? You, you like the guy, you think his tape looks great. You base the fact that you think you can get him on, you know, guesstimated numbers by folks, right? And then suddenly, lo and behold, their. Their testing numbers match their tape and, and suddenly you're. You're, you know, you're out of luck on that player and he gets bumped up because guess what? He is as fast as he looks on tape. So, yeah, like I. It's just an unfortunate situation that kind of happens with these, with these things every year. And look, that doesn't mean that. That the Cowboys don't. Won't get absolutely have no chance for him to fall. There certainly is a possibility something happens. But yes, I mean, I think for guys like this, the positions like corner, those guys tend to go high. Any excuse to, to allow a team in the top 10, especially in a soft top 10 year, to draft one of the money five positions, I think they're going to take it. And if you, if you've got a guy who, you know, was probably just outside of that blue chip range because of physical limitations, if you knock one of those physical limitations being speed off, off the board, it certainly makes him a lot more appetizing for teams picking in the top 10.
Marcus Mosher
This is the way I feel about it. He was already a guy that, I mean, if he was at 12, was like an automatic pick, but now he's like a run to the podium. If he's available at 12, do I think he gets to Dallas at 12? Probably not. Just because cornerbacks go early and cornerbacks that are as productive as he was in the SEC generally don't get outside the top 10. The positional value is crazy high, and I could see him going, you know, seven to the Commanders, eight to the Saints. I wouldn't be shocked if the Chiefs drafted him at nine, considering they just traded away Trent McDuffie. So I've always kind of felt like, hey, it was a pipe dream that he was ever going to get to Dallas because he's just that good of a player. On the flip side, now it's just another guy that feels like a lock to go in the top 10. And that might mean you might have somebody like Caleb Downsfall to You or Reuben Bane or Sunny Styles, somebody's going to get pushed down. If Delane gets moved up, I do think he goes high. And again, that's just. That's what happens in the draft.
Landon McCool
Yeah. And. And you know, the good news is, is that he gets picked above, you know, some other guys. Some other guys get pushed down to you. I mean, the push and pull of the whole situation is how this works. Who knows, Maybe a tackle falls to you and you have a trade opportunity. Right? Or. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Look, I mean, that's, that's the opposite.
Marcus Mosher
We'll talk about the.
Landon McCool
We'll talk about that later. Yeah, but, yeah, listen, I, I think there, There are still opportunities for teams to go up and, and, and, and maybe go and get guys that get pushed down to you. So as much as it is upsetting to see guys like this get pushed above where you can pick them, there's always a. Every action has a corresponding reaction. Right.
Marcus Mosher
And.
Landon McCool
And sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. We'll see. But I think just know that the chaos will continue to churn for another month and who knows what happens.
Marcus Mosher
Two more quick questions on Delaine before we move on.
Landon McCool
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
For him again, they're calling it a438. Let's. Let's give the little a pro day bump and let's call it a 445. Does Delane running a 445 solidify a true first round grade for you? And the second part of the question is, is he such a good prospect that you would be willing to trade up to go get him?
Landon McCool
So to answer the first question, I, I view first rounds in as blue and red chips. Right. Like a blue chip is top tier, like first round player in every single gray year. There's not a ton of those guys every year. Red chips are solid first rounders. Right. And then I have like a one, two area. Right. I would view Monster Delane, even after this, as a very solid top of the top end red chip. I, I don't know that I quite. I think for me, blue chips, like kind of check all the boxes. I still think there are some things about his size that like, give me a slight pause, but every single, single thing else about him and, and the fact that he. He kind of is a one year guy, like, he. He didn't quite look as good as Virginia Tech. I mean, he's looked good, but he's looked at a whole different level this year. So that would give me slight pause. Not too much. I'm not saying I wouldn't pick him at any point. As far as trading up, like, I don't know. I, I think it depends on the situation. I'm not like necessarily trying to target a trade up to six or be willing to like give up my other second round, my other first round pick to, you know, go up and get, go up and get a guy like Mansour Delan. I think he's great. I love him as a, as a guy that falls to you at 12. I, I think I, I would. It, it's not such a slam dunk for me. I think I would, it would have to be the specific situation. I have to see what the cost is there.
Marcus Mosher
And I'm the same way with you. Like, I, I love Delane. I'm a huge fan. I think he's not Patrick Sartan or Christian Gonzalez or Derek Stingley level of prospect. But do I think he's like in the JC Horn level of prospect? Yeah, I do. I think he's, he's a guy that I think should go top 12 in just about every draft, but he's not quite that super elite cornerback tier. And that's okay. I mean, if the Cowboys get him at 12, I'm gonna give it an A plus. I can say it's, that's still, that's my, the most ideal pick for, for me, for the Cowboys at 12. We'll see if that happens. But one other player that I wanted to mention really quickly, Harold Perkins, the edge rusher slash, linebacker slash, maybe safety in the NFL, I don't know. Came in at just under 6 foot, 6 foot, 6,220 pounds. Now he ran in the low four fours again, all unofficial. We'll get somewhat official numbers here in the next couple days. He is somebody that met with the Cowboys during the NFL combine. Is he somebody that interests you as a late day two, early day three
Landon McCool
pick as a what as a backup running back, as a safety, as a linebacker, as a slot defender. Well, that's literally what I was going to say next is. I think that's where he's the most interesting. Right. We've talked about how these guys that, that they're looking for in this slot defender in this defense is, is potentially a little bit bigger, right? A little bit more of a down, top down defender as far as coverage goes. A little bit more as a, of a come down and tackle guy, someone that they would send in his blitzes. I mean, honestly, on, on a surface level, Harold. See, almost said it.
Marcus Mosher
Harold Perkins.
Landon McCool
I know I Know, but I, I almost, I almost caught myself because I, I was not saying the right Perkins earlier. He's a guy that I think kind of, you know, fits that sort of unique player that you, that, that they could be potentially looking for. I, I, I, there's a lot of projection there, right? Like, I, I don't know, I need, I have to go back and watch him some more in order to kind of see where he is as a coverage player because I think that there is only so much that you can cover. I think it's easy for me to wave away some of the coverage stuff with the guy that's played safety before, but a guy that was like basically a blitzing linebacker overhang.
Marcus Mosher
Well, I actually, I watched him on Monday. He's a lot like Jacob Rodriguez and the fact that he'll make plays, but I don't know if he's the most technically sound in coverage. So for every big play that he makes, he might be giving up another big one behind him. And that's, this just comes from not playing a ton of off ball linebacker,
Landon McCool
not playing a ton of any one specific position. I think that's, that's the issue I have with Perkins is that he is this kind of incredible athlete. That's why he ended up at lsu. And I think he's a good football player, but I also think that no matter where you play him, he's got a ton of development that he still needs because he just doesn't have experience at one position. A ton of. Right. So yeah, I like him a lot. But I also think that, you know, if, if we're talking about a date like a, like a day three pick, I, I'm in. But if you're talking about like having to take him at the back end of the day too, like, that's too rich because I just don't know that I got a clear projection of where he's going year one in, in his NFL career.
Marcus Mosher
And you can't play him and the Marvi and Overshone together because you're too small at linebacker. He's pro. Honestly, you draft him to be over shown's replacement. And I'm just not sure the Cowboys can spend a top 100 pick on a backup linebacker at this point in their, you know, rebuild. So.
Landon McCool
And who hasn't been playing a ton of linebacker?
Marcus Mosher
Who hasn't been playing a ton of linebacker? That's the other part that's tricky. Let's talk about Miami's pro day because Brian Schottenheimer was there to watch players like Reuben Bain, Hakeem Mazador, and K. Scott. We'll tell you our thoughts next. Tap the link in the show notes to to learn more or go to LockedOn Cowboys Supercast.com all right, let's talk about Miami's Pro Day. This is one that the Cowboys had several players or several coaches at and scouts. I want to start with Reuben Bane because Bane did not do anything at the NFL Combine. He also didn't do any athletic testing at his pro day. Now that's not all that rare. Usually guys that get picked high don't work out at these, you know, events. But does it concern you at all that Bane didn't do anything?
Landon McCool
No. I mean, yes, it kind of does. But I'm not shocked. I Guess by it. Like, I think you know, who, who does and doesn't work out to me is very like an individual thing. Right. Like it really matters player to player, at least for, for me. Right.
Marcus Mosher
Like, so it means a lot to me as well, depending on the player. Like, I don't, I don't think Arvel Reese needed to do anything during this process, but the fact that he did that kind of does show you something. Like he, he's, he knows he's an elite athlete. He's gonna go out and show it.
Landon McCool
Yeah. And I think that that would have been the same case with Bane. Like he's not the same kind of athlete that Reese is. But if he had gone out and done just fine, I think that would have shown like it would have been a positive step for him. I understand. Reuben Banks tape is like such a loud speaker that like you know that it's like you don't really. I know he's got less than 31 inch arms. Like, I know that he's probably not a sub 46 athlete. You know, like I know that he's probably not a, you know, a 35 inch vertical guy. I, I think, I feel like I know that. I've seen how he plays and, and I, I think, I understand that. I think for me, you know, it's these guys who like, I think the more stop watchy positions, you know, are, are where I'm obviously more, you know, concerned there. And I think it's, it's also like guys that are injured, like to me like Jermod McCoy coming not like you know, we, if he doesn't work out in his workout, like I'm really gonna be like eyes open, like really, really concerned. And, and it's frankly it's been a little concerning that he hasn't come out here. So it's just I think every. Because of, because of his situation because he didn't play last year. Right. And so everyone's situation is slightly different depending on where they are and what I've seen of them. Like if you've got a ton of incredible tape like Ruben Bane like at the end of the year and you looked elite from tip to tail through an entire season last year, you don't have to do very much to convince me you're. You've already got to work yourself in the top 15 conversation. If I think the thing that I like the kind of marker I would use is if coming out and testing would make you a ton of money and testing well and making a ton of would make you a ton of money and you don't do it. That is very telling. Right. But if you have your position baked in, everyone knows who you are and running a 40 time isn't going to really move the needle. I can understand why you don't necessarily want to point out the fact that you, you're not exactly slow because everyone's accepted that fact already.
Marcus Mosher
So I, I got a couple thoughts here. I, I think you and I are on the same page. Like, we love Reuben Bay, just to be clear. Like, he, for us, if he's available at 12, we wouldn't even think twice about it. Like, you're, you're. It's like a CD Lamb situation. Like you're running to the podium to make that pick. But one of the things we've noticed over the last month is that he is starting to fall in the consensus rankings and in like these expert mock drafts like mel Kuiper, Todd McShay, Daniel Jeremiah, Dame, Brugler. And I wonder if that's because either the teams are catching up a little bit or teams are concerned about the athleticism. While we're not concerned, there are teams, like I'm going to say, like the Bengals, that really put a big emphasis on drafting premier athletes. And that's how you get someone like Shemar Stewart, who goes in the top 20 last year, despite having, what, a tenth of the tape that Reuben Bane has. Right. And I do wonder, with Bane not testing, are there going to be teams like the commanders, like the Bengals, like the Chiefs, that maybe are a little more out on him than they were two months ago, or is he not testing because he's got a promise from one of these teams, like, hey, don't worry about testing. We're going to draft you if you're available at 8, or we're going to draft you at 9. I wouldn't be surprised if either is true here.
Landon McCool
Yeah, I mean, sometimes with this kind of thing, you have to look at causality versus correlation. Right. Like for Bane, like, that movement happened before he did any testing. Right. So it's, it's, it's more likely that draft nicks got more information potentially from their sources. Right. Because there's no, no new information about how he's testing or his new tape that's come out before then.
Marcus Mosher
But I am wondering, like, if we see him starting to drop in mock drafts over the next two weeks, I do wonder if it's a miscalculation on his part, not working out. Again, we don't care about the athletic Testing. Maybe teams do.
Landon McCool
Maybe I want. But I wonder also, the movement that happened before this wasn't because, I mean, there isn't anything that should be causing downward pressure for him necessarily at this point. Right. Like, unless. Unless people are learning more information about what is ha. What is going on behind the scenes. So it's.
Marcus Mosher
It's possible. The other guy I wanted to mention here is Hakeem Mazador. His running mate didn't do anything at the pro day either. He also skipped out of the combine. Now, that's a different story.
Landon McCool
Right?
Marcus Mosher
Yeah. People have made the correct argument. Hey, they've played a really long season. Miami was in the national championship game. They were way behind in terms of being able to train. Totally get it. I. I think that's a valid argument. At the same time, Mezador's got a lot of concerns from being older, from having foot injuries. I would have liked to just get some baseline numbers of, like, where he's at athletically after all these injuries. And unfortunately, we're not going to get it.
Landon McCool
This is exactly that, what I was just talking about. Right. Like, Mezador has money to make by. By going out there and testing or money not testing. Well, I. I see. That's the thing is that I. To me, I think that everybody has money to lose by. By going out testing poorly. Right. Like, I think to a. Maybe. Maybe not to some degree, but I think there are some people out there that.
Marcus Mosher
There are some. I would agree. Yes.
Landon McCool
But if you have money, like, potentially money to gain by. If you were hypothetically to get like a better number than expected and you still aren't going out there, then you are clearly hiding something. And to me, like, I don't. Not saying that Messador is necessarily clearly hiding something, but it's concerning where he's got the issue about his age. He's got the issue about his injury. He could use. He could improve his stock, especially while he's lumped in with all these other guys, by adding in some positive draft, positive test numbers. If he had those in his back pocket, he clearly doesn't have that in his back pocket. So, you know, with Bane, it's easy for me to say, well, you know, I understand why he doesn't take the risk for Messador. It's like there's something on the table by going out and testing positive. If you could do pull that out. The fact that he doesn't feel like he can pull it out kind of speaks volumes a little bit.
Marcus Mosher
One more player from Miami's pro day Keonte Scott, the cornerback, really the nickelback, he ran, I believe, according to scouts there, like in the low 4 3, it's not a 42 5, which was initially reported, but it sounds like it was somewhere between 430-435. It doesn't matter. Anything below 440 is a phenomenal number for him. He's got some concerns including he's going to be an older player. He's fairly small, but I think for him just to go out there and post a really good number checks a box.
Landon McCool
I see. Real quick, he's not that small. He's just not as big as everyone expected him to be. Right. He's, he's, he's not, he's not quite 6 foot. He's probably 5 11, but that's plenty big for just a normal nickel. Now, I don't know if he fits the Cowboys because the Cowboys do want a little bit more size there. So that's the kind of interesting question here. But yeah, he went out there and tested really, really positively. He is a little bit of an older player. But I also think that, look, with, with this kind of situation with the nickel, like I almost kind of want an older guy coming out because you just want somebody who's seen a little bit more. You're going to be asked to do a little bit more coming out. And he plays with exactly the right mentality that you want for someone playing in your nickel. Probably, like I told you offline, probably the best run defending defensive back that I've seen so far this year. So really, really good.
Marcus Mosher
All right, let's talk about one more player from Miami's pro day. That is Francis Mominoa, the offensive lineman who a lot of people expect to go in the top 10. But what if he doesn't? welcome back to the Loton Cowboys Podcast. We'd like to thank you for making us your first listen every single day. One more quick thing here landed Francis Mominoa, the right tackle for Miami. A lot of people have him going three to Arizona. We can see maybe going to Cleveland at 6. There was some talk today from a couple people, including our guy Watch Lombardi, that if he's available at 12, he would be a, a home run pick, a no brainer pick. And this is something I just can't get behind. But I want your thoughts here. If Maui Noah, who a lot of people believe is the best offensive lineman in this class, is available at 12 and you get wiped out, are you taking him?
Landon McCool
I mean, I don't know. No, I wouldn't. I, I mean I, I, to me it's like. You already have too many tackles that you would prefer to play a card. Like what, you know, that I don't know. Like I just feel like, and I felt, and I've been on, on the record with this for a while. I just, I'm not a huge fan of the player necessarily. I, I'm not a, not a fan. I'm just not a fan of where he's being drafted right now. And, and I, and for the Cowboys at 12, it's like he's another guy that again, I, I think you would, you know, squint and try to play him at tackle. I think he's probably a better guard. I just, it's, you know, beyond all the, the, the, the mis. Evaluation part, beyond the fact that like I said, if you've got a tackle sitting there at 12, you should be trading back with somebody beyond all that. It's just a gross misallocation of resources. I mean, you cannot have that much first round value solely invested in the offensive line, especially when you have all these other needs. And I know people are going to come at me with the best player available conversation, but those are people who fundamentally don't understand what best player available truly means, because that's. You don't. You can't. You have to find balance in this strategy. You cannot go pure best player available. That's how you end up drafting running back eight years in a row. Right? Like, I mean, that's how you have
Marcus Mosher
a team filled with good players at positions that don't really matter now offensive tackle does. But at some point you've got to diversify your assets and your resources off a little bit.
Landon McCool
Yeah, absolutely. And, and like, again, if, if you just sit there and pick at 12 instead of really trying to like, move around. And I also just, I also have a hard time believing that the board would fall in such a way that, that he's the best player available. And again, that's my issue with him and positional value aspect of it because again, I don't see him as a tackle necessarily.
Marcus Mosher
Here's the other thing is if, if he were a true left tackle, like in the mold of, let's say, like Joe all or something like that, I could get more behind it because I could say, okay, hey, maybe Guyton is a better right tackle. Let's move Guyton over to right tackle and. But it makes it really hard. After the Cowboys just signed Terence, I was just gonna contact extension right where they gave him a bunch of guaranteed money. You're not going to give, you're not going to give Terence Steele $11 million fully guaranteed for the next two seasons to have him be your swing tackle. Like, that makes no sense unless you're telling me that Guyton's going to the bench. And I just don't think Guyton has shown enough that says that you should give up on him at this point.
Landon McCool
No, absolutely not. And yeah, again, like, I, I think you should invest heavily at the, at the offense, at the lines, like in the trenches. But this is going be well beyond that. Well beyond what is normal.
Marcus Mosher
Irresponsible.
Landon McCool
Yeah, it's irresponsible. Again, like, you need to be able to properly allocate your resources. You can't like yell at me about best player and then also yell at me that the Cowboys have not allocated the resources and suddenly their defense is bad. Like, guys, this is how it happens. Like, you have to Find a way to balance what your roster needs with the talent that's at the picks.
Marcus Mosher
You have an offensive line coach as your offensive coordinator. Figure things out with the talent that you have. You've already spent money on Terrence Steele. You spent a first round pick on Tyler Guyton. You spent a first round pick on Tyler Booker. You made Tyler Smith the highest paid guard in the NFL. Figure it out. Every other team in the NFC that has a great offense has nowhere near the same number of resources that you spent on your offensive line. And I get it. The Cowboys may be underperformed last year, but this is why you hired Clayton Adams and this is why you hired Connor Riley. Go figure it out rather than burning another pick on your offensive line.
Landon McCool
100% agree.

Delane's Pro Day Performance
Draft Ripple Effects
“Positions like corner, those guys tend to go high. Any excuse to allow a team in the top 10, especially in a soft top 10 year, to draft one of the money five positions, I think they're going to take it.” – Landon (03:23)
Silver Lining on Draft Night
Should Cowboys Trade Up for Delane?
“I would view Mansoor Delane, even after this, as a very solid top end red chip... For me, blue chips kind of check all the boxes. I still think there are some things about his size that give me a slight pause…” (06:32)

Reuben Bain
Hakeem Mesidor
Keonte Scott
“Anything below 4.40 is a phenomenal number for him…just to go out there and post a really good number checks a box.” – Marcus (21:33)
