Welcome back to the Locked On Cowboys podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network. Your team every day. We'd like to thank you for making us the number one sports podcast network. I am your host, Marcus Mosher. He is Landon McCool and on today's show we are previewing the 2026 Senior Bowl. Landon it's one of my favorite weeks of the year and it's not just because I'm snowed in and there's nothing else to do, but I really do get excited to watch these prospects because it's that it's the last time we're going to see them on the field with pads, competing against each other until they're drafted. It's, it's always a big week for the Cowboys. As you know, almost every year they at least draft two or three of these guys. Last year we saw Donovan as Raku have a big week at the Senior bullshamar. James put on a nice show. Cowboys drafted him in the fifth round. It's a big week for Dallas.
Landon McCool
Yeah, I mean it's a big week for the draft in general. I think it's just such an incredible event to be able to get such a great look at these guys actually performing in pads. I mean, we talk about all the kind of pre draft stuff that used to go on and, and all the kind of underwear Olympics that that happened at the combine. But to get these guys in a situation where they're working with uncommon opponents, uncommon teammates, they're working with With NFL coaches, they're working in unfamiliar offenses and defenses, so you get an opportunity to see how these guys kind of take in information in. It's just really, really important data gathering that happens this week. And. And I just feel like it's an incredible opportunity to get, like, a measuring stick on where these guys are as prospects when they, you know, get to go line these guys up. And you don't have to dig through hours and hours of tape to see good on good. You get, you know, a week's worth of practices to see it.
Marcus Mosher
And we're going to go through names that we think could be at least intriguing to cowboy the Cowboys on both sides of the ball. We'll talk about TJ Parker, we'll talk about Colton Hood. But just in general, how is the best way to process this week? Because I think if you just do it, hey, these are the guys that perform really well. These are the guys that perform poorly. And you view it through that lens, I think you're missing a little bit of what makes the Senior bowl special and enjoyable. But for you as a talent evaluator, waiter, what's the best way to take in this week?
Landon McCool
Well, first of all, we talked about it this before, and it's the same with training camp is. Is you're looking for drum beats. You're looking for guys that consistently are popping off the field, off the film. You're kind of taking it all in. You're seeing the guys that you feel like have excellent reps. You're taking note of it. And if they start to repeat the process against multiple of these guys, you know, that you. You clearly have something. I think it's very easy to see, you know, some of the. The guys, you know, I think of. Of. Of. Of something like Tank Dell, right, that comes into the Senior bowl and just dominates folks from the start to the end at wide receiver. It's a little bit more subtle, I think, to try to find the guys that are maybe winning consistently but not winning in such outrageous ways, right? And finding that drum beat, and it's hard because they wear them, but ignoring the helmet, right, Ignoring the college helmet they're wearing and seeing who's actually performing in this in these weeks, I think that that's. That's. That's really important. And I think the last thing, too, is, you know, don't chase highlights, right? Like there's gonna be. There's gonna be snaps or these guys, you know, do something incredible sometimes, and that's fantastic. And that's obviously a data point that's certainly something to take note of, but it doesn't mean a lot if that's like the only thing that they do that week. Or, you know, like, it's, it's a lot, it's a lot more meaningful when Aaron Donald is burying every single guard not named Zach Martin at the Senior bowl than when it's, you know, one highlight reel of, of, of him putting someone in the dirt, but then him getting his butt kicked the rest of the week. So I, I, I think there's a, there's a, there's a tendency to see these highlights, get tweeted out in social media and kind of harp and focus on the guys that have the big flashy ones. But, you know, it's the guys who can set consistently across multiple opponents that are, you know, showing you a high floor in these situations that usually kind of are the, the folks that are the successful pros that come out of the Senior Bowl.
Marcus Mosher
I have so many thoughts here, but a couple things. Let's, let's go. Like by drill. One of the drills that you'll see the most commonly posted on social media from someone, including myself, is the wide receiver versus defensive back drills.
Landon McCool
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
And I get so irritated with the people, I'm calling them TikTok routes where you're doing five different moves off the line of scrimmage and then after six seconds you finally get open and you catch a pass. Okay, that's great. That doesn't translate at all. And if you're like a slot receiver or an outside receiver and you're running this big in breaking route and that's how you're creating separation and yeah, you caught a pass, that doesn't mean that you necessarily won that rep. Same for offensive line, defensive line, lane. And like, if you're a defensive tackle and you take this big wide angle.
Landon McCool
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
Try to get to the quarterback, you might have won the rep on Twitter, but that's not how the drill is designed. So keep all of that in context when you're watching these practices and you're watching these drills.
Landon McCool
Well, I think the opposite is also true. Like, you have to understand the natural advantage that the offense or the defense has in these situations. You know, any opportunity, like, especially with like the offensive line and the defensive backfield, those are units that work in conjunction with the other players to collectively block up a scheme or collectively cover pass routes. Right. So any opportunity, I mean, not that you don't get one on one situations, of course, that's a thing. But, but, but usually corners get Some help or they are playing leverage to one way because they can funnel guys going into some help or something and they don't get that opportunity. So my, my point being that if you do see a defensive back like, I mean I'll go to Quinion Mitchell. Right, right. Like who comes in here and is shutting guys down in obviously in the team drills but also in the one on one situations where they have a natural disadvantage or an offensive lineman who.
Marcus Mosher
You know is able from last year.
Landon McCool
Exactly.
Marcus Mosher
Grace Abel dominated everybody he went up against in every single one on one situation. And that's pretty rare for a guard. And for him to do it against all of the top competition showed you that he was going to be a high pick. And I think what he went 18 to Seattle. He's already their best offensive lineman.
Landon McCool
Yeah. And I think it's. You just have to understand where the natural advantages are on these drills. Understand what the drills are. Understand like they're, they're kind of their analogy for what, what's actually playing in a real life game. And then you know, kind of weigh their performance based on that fact.
Marcus Mosher
Right.
Landon McCool
If a wide receiver is beating a guy like you said with TikTok routes, which is yeah, very much what you're seeing like these guys making four and five moves off the line, which is just not going to happen in an NFL game then, then yeah, it's probably not as useful as a rep, as a guy who is just running a simple eight route but. But is able to use kind of pacing and his ability to be explosive out of his route to create separation by running a natural route, not by just going crazy and taking advantage of a natural advantage you have over the player because of the nature of the drill.
Marcus Mosher
Last thing. There's always the little things that you can watch in these practices that aren't even necessarily the one on one drills. There was a player a couple of years ago who came into the process thinking he was a first round pick. Played a good day of practice on Tuesday, didn't practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Ended up leaving the Senior bowl because he thought he accomplished everything. Fell to the fourth round because he kind of showed up there, was a little bit lazy. He was cheating on some of the drills as a pass rusher trying to jump the snap. Watch out for that kind of stuff and you'll notice it the more you watch these guys trying to cheat drills, guys being lazy. That's for a lot of these coaches. That's what they want to see is how are these guys interacting with Coaches, how are they interacting with teammates or are they a good tb? Are they disrupting practice? Are they throwing balls around, you know, after a drill? It's the little things like that. Believe it or not, they could end up, you know, making a guy go around earlier or later than what they should.
Landon McCool
Well, that's the kind of evaluation that these coaches, these front office guys really get out of the situation, right? An opportunity to work with these young men and see how they handle being professionals, being, you know, being someone who's doing this, you know, for their job. This is, this is an interview. So guys who don't understand that maybe they're not bad football play, maybe they're not bad football players, but maybe they're also not mature enough to kind of reach their full potential quite yet. And that's just not, not that you take them off your board, but it's just another data point to have.
Marcus Mosher
I'll give you this on the positive end. Last year, Donovan as a rock. I mean, everybody was just raving how good of a teammate he was, how he was taking to coaching. And Cowboys drafted him and he had an awesome rookie season. I mean, he played really well at the Senior Bowl. He was already established as a top 50 pick. But I think you, you came out of Mobile last year feeling very confident, even at Ezraku's, you know, size, that he was going to be a productive player in the NFL because of how he worked at it, because of how he handled coaching. That's what this week is really for. But let's talk about some players that we are excited to watch who could fit the Dallas Cowboys in their draft plans. We'll get to that next. All right, later, let's talk about the defensive prospects here in Mobile because that's where the Cowboys attention is obviously going to be. Who are some of the big names that you're going to be keeping an eye on?
Landon McCool
Well, this, this, this guy is not necessarily a big name, but I just noticed that he was on the list and I was not aware that he was going to make it. So I'm excited about it. Chris Johnson, who is a cornerback from San Diego State, he's, he's a guy that I have been a big fan of on this process. I got on to him early on through recommendation. Big, big guy 602. He's reading at 190 and, and I just, I just love the way he plays. He's physical, he can play press, he can play man if you need him to. I think he's, he's, you know, more so the physical, the physical profile that the Cowboys have gotten, you know, as we've talked about in the past with Will McClay. I, I'm excited to see what he does out here against some serious competition. I think these are the kind of guys, right, like the, the guys who maybe have been playing, you know, Division 1 football, but not against like upper tier competition. And now you're getting an opportunity to see them, you know, get some of the, the sec, the Big Ten, you know, those guys and see how they hold up.
Marcus Mosher
He's super productive, by the way. I think he had four interceptions his senior year. He's had a bunch of force fumbles. So again, we'll. This is not the best group of wide receivers that we've ever seen at the Senior bowl, but it's going to be a step up in competition. I wanted to mention a corner, Colton Hood, who was actually mocked to the Cowboys by Daniel Jeremiah at pick number 12 in his first mock draft of the year. I think Cowboy fans were surprised to see that. But this is a big week for Colton Hood and if you haven't watched this tape, this is a physical press manto man cornerback who actually kind of fits the mold that I'd like to see Dallas get. Like these guys that are really tenacious, they're physical. He'll, he'll play and run support. He doesn't mind tackling. But it's a big week for him because I think one of my concerns for him is he gets a little grabby in situations, especially at the, you know, top of routes. And he's going to get a ton of opportunities this week to show that he can play one on one coverage on the outside. I can't wait to see it.
Landon McCool
Yeah, I mean, just, just an interesting situation. I mean, obviously with the injury of Jermon McCoy the previous season, it was kind of always thought that he would be, you know, him and McCoy would be 1A and 1B once, once McCoy came back, would be. McCoy never came back. And Colton just played out the whole season and put out a lot of really good tape. And you mentioned, you know, I mean, he's aggressive, he's physical. Ultimately, what that does mean that you're gonna get some, some defensive, some DPIs, some holding. Right. I think that that's kind of the thing that you, you watch with him. But I think, yeah, this is going to be a great week for him to get an opportunity to kind of practice that trade, apply his trade a little bit more. Like you said, not, not the best wide receiver class that we've seen come through here, certainly, but just to kind of again, get a lot of opportunities to see him against a bunch of different body types. I mean, that is the one thing you can say is that there are lots of different body types in this, in this wide receiver class. So it's going to be an opportunity to see just kind of how he handles all of those different situations.
Marcus Mosher
Another big name player, and honestly, maybe the biggest name player here is TJ Parker, an edge rusher from Clemson. I think a year ago we were seeing a lot of mock drafts with him going inside the top five or six picks. He was fantastic as a sophomore. The junior season wasn't quite as good, but this is still somebody who's been very productive over his three years at Clemson. I think this is a big week for him to show that he has more moves than just trying to run offensive tackles over which he did a lot at Clemson. But, but I want to see a pass rush plan and I think this is a good week to show that off.
Landon McCool
Yeah, I mean, he's a guy that, you know, it's in a season of absolute complete disappointment. Right. For, for Clemson and all the, the talent that they had. I mean, to me it felt like Parker was the guy that was maybe the least disappointing at times. He didn't put up nearly the production that he did his sophomore year or, I'm sorry, his, his red shirt freshman.
Marcus Mosher
Year, redshirt freshman year.
Landon McCool
Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
Three years there.
Landon McCool
Yeah. So I, I, but I, I think that he still, you know, you saw a little bit of what you saw previous. You still, I think he's obviously extremely young. There's a lot to kind of, you know, to, to like about his game. Came in and measured six, three and a half, 260. That's, that's basically exactly what you imagine you thought he would be. Uh, he plays like one of those guys. Uh, and again, he's so young and, and has shown you so much and has some development already. It was shocking. He didn't produce the way that he, you, all, everyone expected. But I do think that you get him in here, there's a chance that he really dominates this week just because he's a level up on most of the players here. And he, you know, raises his stock to the point where I wouldn't be shocked if he was bottom of the first round, middle of the first round pick.
Marcus Mosher
Honestly, I got a little tip and again, I'm not an insider, nothing like this, but on Parker was happy to talk about him on social media a couple weeks ago, and I got a tip that he actually called the new senior bowl director, Drew, you know, how to pronounce the last days at Fibonacci.
Landon McCool
Fabian, I think he's a former Cowboys front office scout, called the Senior bowl.
Marcus Mosher
And said, hey, I want to come play. I, I want to come compete. And with a lot of guys ducking, you know, these, these games and dropping out at the last minute, I do think that says something about a player's personality when he says, you know, hey, I want to go there, I want to go dominate. I expect for him to have a big week and if he does, would not be surprised if he's right back into that round one conversation.
Landon McCool
Yeah, I mean, I think this is a guy who understands that, you know, they had a disappointing season and he didn't play up to his expectations. I love it. I love guys that come in and want to compete in the Senior Bowl. To call up and ask for an invite specifically, I think was incredible and that shows you the kind of guy that he is.
Marcus Mosher
Any other guys on defense that you're keeping an eye on because it feels like there's a lack of first round town. We can talk about Caleb Banks, the defensive tackle from Florida. But Cap, the Cowboys aren't taking a round one defensive tackle. But anybody else here that you're curious to see.
Landon McCool
I was interested and have been interested to see a little bit more of Derek, a little bit more of Derek Moore from, from Michigan. And as he did another kind of 6, 3, 200, except he's 250 plus easy, you know, kind of compact guy. I think he could be an interesting guy that the Cowboys could, you know, potentially use on the edge in this, in this new defense. I mean, he's, he's kind of at that versatility where I feel like he could probably play standing up with two hand, with. On two, in a two point stance on two hands. That'd be amazing if you play two hands. One more guy. I, I think you've heard us talk about it before, maybe. But another guy that is maybe more in the, in the kind of longer form five technique, you know, defensive end is Zion Young from Missouri. Very, very productive guy. Yeah. And just like a big, it's sort of just like Kendrick Falk, like, except maybe at a discount and, and maybe more appropriately priced to where you want to draft him. But let's, let's see how he does. I think he's a guy that if he comes in, shows you a couple things and a pass, a pass rusher, he could really raise his stock. This, in this, in this practice.
Marcus Mosher
One more name that I wanted to mention. Real Quick. Malik Muhammad from Texas, a cornerback. He's small and again, you're gonna have to live with these small corners in this class. 5117. So the height's fine. Six foot, yeah. 183 pounds, which always gets you a little bit concerned. But this is a guy that is incredibly feisty. He's tough, he's got great instincts, there's ball skills. I think he's going to dominate these drills and, and I would not be surprised to see him put on a show in mobile.
Landon McCool
Yeah. Last three things, last three guys. Just because they're, they're big names and you know, we're obviously a, a Texas based team, the Texas Tech trio that, I mean, there's, there's more than the three of them, but I think the three guys worth minting are Lee Hunter, Romela Height and Jacob Rodriguez. Right. The defensive tackle, the defensive end and the linebacker. Height and Rodriguez, very, extremely, extremely, extremely productive players. Both a little bit undersized for their respective positions, but I don't think that rules them out necessarily if you can figure out a role for them. Lee Hunter, as a guy that maybe wasn't the, the kind of household name that those other two were throughout the season, had an incredible playoff game, really kind of boosted his profile a lot. But is a guy that if the Cowboys were looking for adding another defensive tackle for some reason down the line, he could be a guy that they could kill kick, kick around the idea of bringing it.
Marcus Mosher
Now, the Cowboys probably aren't going to spend any premium picks on offense. However, this is a good class to grab some day three talent. We'll tell you the players to keep an eye on in Mobile.
Landon McCool
Next.

Layon, let's run through a couple offensive players at the Senior bowl that we will be keeping an eye on.
Landon McCool
Who do you got mostly running backs? For me, I mean I think that there's some interesting wide receivers and some tight ends, but to me the running back class is very interesting for the Senior Bowl. I think it starts with Nick Singleton. To me, just because of the name recognition. Obviously he was a guy that many people were talking about as potentially being a first round running back last year when he came out. I think everyone kind of watched his season this year and we're probably pretty grateful that they didn't draft him in the first round as a running back because it didn't quite pan out that way. He's still an incredible athlete, but you and I were comparing him, I think, you know, to Christine Michael. I think it was an appropriate comparison where he's just an incredible athlete. But you know, maybe it's the figuring out how to play running back thing that still needs to work work some work on. And then on top of that his, his teammate, right, Catron Allen is another guy, similarly larger size. They're both over 5 foot 11, both over 220. Allen is a guy, Singleton's a guy who's probably going to run a, I don't know what do you think, Marcus? Four. Three. Easy right?
Marcus Mosher
Easy.
Landon McCool
Yeah. And. And I think Katron Allen isn't quite that kind of athlete, but he's a physical runner who knows how to run between the tackles. He doesn't go down easily. I think that there's a bunch of these guys that are interesting to look at. The problem with. With this is that, you know, it's not always the best place to evaluate a running back, but I'm interested to kind of take a look at them and a couple other guys as well. Yeah.
Marcus Mosher
This is a. A good draft for the Cowboys to grab a running back on day three that could come in and fill a role. I mean, you and I were talking about Jade Knott from Oklahoma who, you know, really disappointed the last couple years.
Landon McCool
Oklahoma. Right. Like, it's just like to try to figure that whole situation out, just get an opportunity to see him up close after what was a very weird season for him. I think it's a good thing.
Marcus Mosher
Absolutely. And even the quarterbacks, like, this is probably the worst group of quarterbacks we've had in Mobile in some time. Like, I thought last year's class was bad, but Jackson Dart and Tyler Schuck actually played pretty well in the Senior Bowl. But I'm just looking at some of these guys like Sawyer Robertson and Taylor Green, and we'll see about Garrett Nussbire. Like just day three picks that maybe the Cowboys could add if they're not super sold on Joe Milton or guys to stash in a practice squad for a year or two. There's generally one or two of these guys that end up standing out. It's a pretty meh class overall. But just. I'm keeping an eye on those guys because I think a lot of them could be day three picks.
Landon McCool
Yeah. And. And I think, you know, there's. There's definitely wide receivers that you could take a look at if, like, you know, if the Cowboys decided not to go the Pickens route for some reason, you know, there's. I don't think there's a guy here that's going to be. Not a first Pickens.
Marcus Mosher
No.
Landon McCool
Yeah, exactly. But if you're interested in kind of just filling the position a little bit later in the draft, there's some guys with some interesting body types that you may. That you may be interested in. Malachi Fields, he's a bigger body guy. 6, 4, 2, 18. So if you're looking just to have somebody to kind of develop as an ex receiver eventually down the road, he could be a guy that you could, you could look at. So and obviously you know there's some more bigger names like Jacoby Lane, who was another opposite guy of Off Lemon that was really a productive receiver at usc. I think that a lot of these guys are all kind of, you know, potential wide receiver, two wide receiver, three types. I don't know that there's like an alpha dog here, but that's, but again, that may be more of what the Cowboys would be shopping for. They're not necessarily, they're not even necessarily looking for their number two wide receiver. Maybe just guys to kind of fill out the back end of their roster because you're probably going to lose Tolbert and some other these guys. Good to have a developmental guy double.
Marcus Mosher
Roster and keep an eye out for these small school guys who are getting an opportunity to go against players like Colton Hood and Malik Muhammad. It wasn't, that was two years ago. Ryan Flournoy, from a bunch of different directional places in the south ended up becoming somebody that had a strong Senior bowl week. The Cowboys drafted him in the sixth round and then by the end of year two, you feel really good about his upside. So keep an eye on those guys. Even I know it doesn't feel like the Cowboys have a need at receiver right now, but once you get to the fifth or the sixth round of these drafts, you're just taking shots on guys that you think could contribute two years from now. Episode: Preview: Top Senior Bowl Prospects Who Dallas Cowboys Could Select During 2026 NFL Draft!
Hosts: Marcus Mosher & Landon McCool
Date: January 27, 2026
This episode of Locked On Cowboys dives deep into the 2026 Senior Bowl, an essential pre-draft event where top college seniors showcase their talents in front of NFL teams. Hosts Marcus Mosher and Landon McCool discuss how the Dallas Cowboys traditionally target Senior Bowl standouts in the draft, review evaluation strategies for practice drills, and highlight several under-the-radar prospects who could fit the Cowboys' needs on both defense and offense. The conversation blends practical scouting advice with detailed player analysis, creating a thorough preview for passionate Cowboys fans and draft enthusiasts.
"Once you get to the fifth or sixth round, you're just taking shots on guys that you think could contribute two years from now." (Marcus, 29:10)
On Senior Bowl week’s importance:
"It's just an incredible event to be able to get... a great look at these guys actually performing in pads... It's an incredible opportunity to get, like, a measuring stick on where these guys are as prospects."
— Landon McCool, 02:20
On avoiding highlight-chasing in evaluation:
"It doesn't mean a lot if that's like the only thing that they do that week... It's a lot more meaningful when Aaron Donald is burying every single guard not named Zach Martin... than when it's, you know, one highlight reel of him putting someone in the dirt, but then him getting his butt kicked the rest of the week."
— Landon McCool, 05:46
On evaluating mentality:
"For a lot of these coaches, that's what they want to see: how are these guys interacting with coaches, how are they interacting with teammates... Are they disrupting practice? Are they throwing balls around after a drill? It's the little things like that."
— Marcus Mosher, 09:25
On TJ Parker’s competitiveness:
"I love guys that come in and want to compete in the Senior Bowl. To call up and ask for an invite specifically, I think was incredible and that shows you the kind of guy that he is."
— Landon McCool, 19:34
On Day Three draft strategy:
"Keep an eye out for these small school guys who are getting an opportunity to go against players like Colton Hood and Malik Muhammad... Once you get to the fifth or the sixth round, you're just taking shots on guys that you think could contribute two years from now."
— Marcus Mosher, 29:10
This episode is an excellent primer for Dallas Cowboys fans ahead of Senior Bowl week. The hosts provide actionable scouting wisdom (“look for consistent drumbeats, not just flashes”), contextualize drills and reps to real game performance, and offer a nuanced look at the type of prospects the Cowboys may target in the 2026 NFL Draft. The coverage balances big names like TJ Parker with small-school and underrated contributors, aligning perfectly with the realistic draft philosophy the team has shown in recent years.

You’ll emerge with a robust understanding of both the how and the who—the evaluation process for the Senior Bowl, and names to target as the Cowboys build their 2026 draft board.
