What would it cost to trade for Miles Garrett? We'll tell you next. You are Locked On Cowboys, your daily Dallas Cowboys podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast network your team every day. Welcome back. I am your host, Marcus Mosher. He is Landon McCool. And on today's show, we are doing a Pro Football Focus simulator, a mock draft simulator where we trade for a certain edge rusher from Cleveland. That's Miles Garrett. If you didn't get to listen to our previous show, we talked about why Miles Garrett could be on the move relatively soon in Cleveland. Go check that out. But Lena, let's go ahead and run through a simulation of if the Cowboys were to make a trade for Miles Garrett, what would they have left in the 2026 draft and how they would fill out the roster?
A
Yeah, I mean, look, I'm just excited to have Miles Garrett. I mean, whatever happens in this draft is. Is all just pennies on the dollar for me because I. We got Miles Garrett. I'm excited.
D
All right, so, yes, here's the thing about the Pro Football Focus mock draft simulator. If you try to make a trade with Cleveland before the draft for Miles Garrett, they're not asking for a lot. They'll just take a first round pick. We know that's not the case.
A
No.
D
So my question for you is, what would be the most that you would be willing to give up to acquire Miles Garrett?
A
I think if we start talking about four first round picks, like, that's where
D
it gets a little wonky for me.
A
That's where I'm starting to get, like, not comfortable. Because. Because I think three years is a realistic time to expect hall of Fame level pass rusher from. From Miles Garrett. I think beyond that, it's. It Becomes a little. Not that I, he can't, but it becomes a little bit tenuous, I'd say. And, and I think that also lines up with the number of years that his contract is, is ridiculously low. So that works.
D
Cleveland is going to be looking for three first round picks and more. Now I think they're going to want to stagger these picks a little bit, but I do think the Cowboys are uniquely situated to make a trade here. So the offer that I think the first offer that I want to propose to you would be 1220, a next year's first. Now again, that pick is technically frozen, but the Cowboys could put some things on it where, hey, if Garrett's on the team as of the first day of the league year, it turns into a first round pick. I think that would freeze their second round pick, but I'm going to go 12, 20, a first round pick next year and a third round pick next year. What do you think?
A
Yeah, I mean, I think that's where we have to go. Right? You know, I don't know if they'll end up asking more than that. They might, they may ask instead of using that 20th overall pick they may want.
D
That would not be surprised, right?
A
I, I wouldn't be, I, I would be okay with that too. But yes, I think this is, this is.
D
Do you want to do that?
A
What do you mean?
D
Well, I'm saying like, do you want to, for our offer, do you want to do 12?
A
Oh, in the simulation. Yeah, let's do that. Absolutely.
D
We'll keep the 20th pick this year. So this is three straight years. Cleveland adds an extra first round pick and they are adding a third round pick in 2027.
A
However, I do think that they're probably going to want, they may want 92 still.
D
Okay, we'll give them 92. Okay, that's fine.
A
Yeah. And then, yeah, I think that, that
D
now I will say if you're looking at this right now, Cleveland's day two picks, 39.70, 107, 146, 149, maybe you're able to get back like pick 149 to give you a little bit more ammunition on, on day three. Let's go ahead and make that trade. So our final trade here, it's picks 12, 92, a 2027 first rounder. Now this will be the lowest, excuse me, like the highest, the worst of the draft trades here because the other one's going to the Jets. A third rounder in 2027 and a first rounder in 20, 28. It is a ton. It is a ton to give up. But you're legitimately talking about maybe the best player in football.
A
Oh, yeah. And, and, and one of the best players that's been around for a couple years like a uniquely excellent player. Yeah. I mean, it's, it's, he's the only guy I would pay anything close to this for.
D
All right, so there's our trade. The Cowboys have just acquired Miles Garrett, the all world pass rusher from the Cleveland Browns. Let's do the mock. Let's see what, how we could build out the rest of this defense now that Miles Garrett's on it. We'll get to that next. This episode is brought to you by Home Chef. We are doing our mock draft simulator where we just traded for Miles Garrett. Yes. Now here's the thing, Landon. The Cowboys still have some picks in our mock draft. Here we are up on the clock at pick 20. Knowing that you have Garrett, how are you trying to build the rest of your defense?
A
Well, I. I think you can kind of go a little bit more towards cornerback now if you wanted to. We can certainly look at linebacker if you want. We're at 20, right? Yeah.
D
Yep. I mean, I'll give you the names. By the way, it's Avion Terrell. It's Colton Hood again. Sorry for the podcast listeners. Brain fart right there. Linebackers, the top linebackers. You've got Jacob Rodriguez, CJ Allen. Just went off the board. If you want to add a Defensive Lineman, Cade McDonald is there if you really want to supercharge your defensive line. But I think. I think the pick here would be cornerback.
A
Yeah. And to me, Avian Terrell makes too much sense right here. Man, I'm loving this. I'm loving this situation.
D
Right. Well, you better love it because the Cowboys have no more first round picks until 2029.
A
But that was the last one.
D
Good news is the good news is still a bunch of picks available on day three, including picks 112, 149, 152. Cowboys back on the clock. Now that you got your quarterback cornerback situation figured out, are you just drafting the best players available?
A
Yeah, I mean, honestly, I. I think you can kind of just go into this situation and draft a little free if you want.
D
Clark, if you want to just keep adding to that defense is available.
A
I mean, I don't hate Bud Clark, that's for sure. Obviously, he's a guy that is famous for getting his hands on the football, has some injury concerns, so that's just something to consider. But Deontay Lawson is someone I would definitely wouldn't be upset with if we hadn't. Oh, wait, we haven't picked a linebacker yet, so Deontay Lawson's someone I would definitely consider. I. We love Bryce.
D
Yeah. Rising up the ranks a little bit here, which I like.
A
Whoa.
D
Oh.
A
Where do they. Oh, he's up to 135. Wow. They finally are coming around on him a little bit. I certainly wouldn't be upset with taking him here.
D
I can Go to interior defensive lineman if you want to see those guys. You've got Landon Robinson, you've got Chris McKellen.
A
Oh, wow. Chris McKellen's all the way down here. Yeah.
D
Good player. You want to grab a defensive lineman?
A
Yeah, honestly, I think that that might be where I would go.
D
All right, so there you go. You've got a defensive tackle. You've just added a cornerback. If you wanted to drop some offensive linemen, you've got Austin Barber, who's still there. Isaiah World, Torres, acl. I believe he's going to be out a while. Jaden Ott, if you wanted to grab a running back. K. Tron Allen. I'm just looking at some more of these names here that are available real quick.
A
Let's. Can we look at the running back list overall? Sure. Because I still think we need a running back.
D
Le'Veon Moss. Jade, not K. Tron Allen. Devin Clayborne, who the Cowboys actually went and saw on Wednesday. Caitlin Black is available.
A
Yeah, I mean, honestly, I, I wouldn't hate taking a, A Jade knot here. I think he adds a level of, of. Of dynamic rushing and pass catching that. That he didn't get a chance to really show last year at Oklahoma. But you saw previously, I think it was when he was a freshman at Cal and, and I. And obviously was really great at Senior bowl, we pointed out several different times. So he's definitely a guy that I would be interested in and kind of pairing with the. Devonte Williams.
D
And then if you wanted to grab a linebacker Here at pick 152, Harold Perkins is still available.
A
Yeah, I mean, honestly. Scroll up. I mean, Red Murdoch's really interesting. I think he had something like seven force fumbles if I'm not mistaken, last year. Aiden Fisher is a guy that was like a leader of that Indiana defense that, you know, was. I think he's a little bit older like all those guys. But I'm pretty sure that Aiden Foster was one of the guys. Yeah, I'm sorry. Aiden Fisher is one of the guys that came with him from James Madison if I'm not mistaken. So yeah, I mean just, just like lots of these guys are, are pretty decent. I haven't watched Caleb Alarms or. But I know that there's a couple of folks that I, I respect that really like him.
D
Really good against the run. Like if you want a downhill linebacker, this is a downhill linebacker. Honestly. Perfect. F.
A
Yeah, honestly, let's. Let's. Great. I. I'll take your word for it.
D
Let's pull the trigger there and Again, we're, we're just going to simulate the rest of this draft here. But what you can see it again, there's the Cowboys have a ton of day three picks after this trade. And I think this is the point is if you're able to keep one of those picks and Maybe it's pick 20 after a miles Garrett trade, look how fast you improved your defense. Not only did you add Miles Garrett, you added avion Terrell. That's two starters you drafted. Chris McClellen, a defensive lineman, to give you even more depth. Linebacker would still be an issue. You might need to go out and try to make a trade for a veteran guy. But this is how with a couple picks, you can completely turn a defense that was the worst in franchise history last year to a defense that maybe actually brings you value every single week.
A
Yeah. And if you guys want to pretend like we drafted a linebacker Instead of Chris McCarland, I think that works just as well, too. But yeah, the point being that you can do this trade in the right way and still continue to add pieces this year to add to your defense. And it would. I mean, Miles Garrett, Are you kidding me? We'd be trade for Miles Garrett.
D
You'd be contenders right away, which would be really fun. All right, that is it for today's show. We'd like to thank you for making us your first listen every single day.
