12 runs and 13 hits couldn't secure a win for the New York Mets, as a bullpen game went sideways on them and they dropped the opener of this series to the Kansas City Royals, 16-12.

The chaos started early, with Carson Benge putting together a Little League home run to give the Mets a quick 3-0 lead. They padded that out to a 9-4 lead at one point before allowing 12 unanswered runs by the Royals.

It was a bullpen game for the Mets and they struggled to find a way to get outs and found themselves out of choices with the game tied at 9. Matt Seelinger was forced to make his MLB debut in a tie game, and it did not fare well for him.

This loss saw the Mets snap their two game losing streak. Christian Scott goes tomorrow, with the Mets looking to get back into the win column.
