For more information, visit teacherluke.podomatic.com Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Luke's English podcast. In it is the evening here in London. While I'm recording this, I don't know what time it is wherever you are, but it's the evening here, so good evening. Now, this podcast is a kind of explanation of the mystery story, which I read to you a couple of podcasts ago. So, basically, this story is about the mysterious character called the Doctor, and I'm going to explain a few things about him. And there's also an interview with an expert on the Doctor, and that's coming up. So before I go into details about Doctor who, I'd just like to say a few Announcements. First of all, the podcast is becoming very big and popular and I'm getting more and more listeners all the time. And I also get quite a lot of emails. I know that I always encourage people to email me. That's because I want to kind of know what people think of the podcast. I am getting emails. In fact, I'm getting so many emails that I just can't reply to them. Especially because I'm just so busy in my life as it is. I explained this in the last podcast. You know, I've got a full time job teaching English. I also have music projects which I'm doing. I'm also involved in some comedy projects as well. I'm calling them projects. Makes it sounds very, it makes it sound very serious to call it a project. But you know, I can't think of a better word, to be honest. So I've got my kind of music projects, the couple of bands that I play in. Also I've got comedy. I'm learning and practicing and performing some comedy at the moment. And as well as that, I've got all the other things like football when I, you know, when I play football, sometimes just other things in my life which mean that I don't always have a lot of free time available to do the podcast. Don't forget, I do this podcast in my free time and you download this for free. You don't have to pay anything for it. So I guess, I mean, obviously it's a, I try to make it a very professional service. But remember, because it's a free service, you can't always expect, you know, you can't always expect absolute reliable professionalism. You know, it's free. So I mean, you're always getting your money's worth for this because you're not paying anything, right? Unless you're one of those very generous people who sent me money and there are a few of you out there and you're extra, super, mega special people because you've sent me the money and that does help. It does help me. But nevertheless, the podcast is a free service, which I do in my free time. So, you know, my free time is limited. I can't always update podcasts regularly. But don't worry because this podcast is definitely a long term project for me. It's something that I enjoy doing a lot and it's something that I think about a lot. But you have to remember, dear listeners, that I don't always have a lot of time to basically to respond to all of the emails that you send me. Okay? You know, I like getting your emails, but I just can't respond to them all. It's just because I don't have the time. If I sat down and responded to every email, I. I wouldn't really have time to do. To do all the other things that I enjoy doing. Like for example, at the moment I've got lots of laundry in my bedroom that I haven't had a chance to do for at least seven days. Right. In fact, I've run out of boxer shorts. So I'm having to wear boxer shorts twice because I don't have time to go to the launderette to do all my laundry. It sounds ridiculous, I know, but that's just the way it is. So just to. So basically from now on, I will continue to upload podcasts as often as I can. Like I said, this is a long term project for me. So even if I can't upload a podcast once a week, I'm always thinking about it and I'm always planning and preparing to upload another podcast soon. So if there isn't one every week, you just have to wait basically until there is another one. And it shouldn't be very long. You shouldn't have to wait more than, you know, about 10 days or two weeks. Okay, so let's see. I will reply to your emails or I will try. Sorry, I can't promise that I will reply to all of them. I will try to reply to your emails, but I can't really write long replies. Unfortunately, all I can do, and I've made this decision because I just need to manage my time. All I can do is reply just to say that I've received the message and to say thank you. So a short reply saying, thank you, I received your message. Thank you very much. Really, the main communication that I have with you is through this podcast. I can't really have email conversations with everyone because I just don't have time. I'm sure that you understand that. I'm sure that you appreciate that. But nevertheless, thank you very much to everyone for sending me emails. I really appreciate, but especially, I especially appreciate the fact that you listen to the podcast and that's all you have to do. You just have to listen to it and enjoy it and that's it. You don't have to do anything else. I'm happy if you're just listening and enjoying and learning English. Okay, so that brings me on to this podcast which is about doctor Who. Now, recent podcasts. So not the last one, but the one before last and the One before, the one before last included the story of a mysterious man called the Doctor who saved me from a monster. Now, this podcast basically explains that story. So the Doctor is not actually my character. He's a character from a TV show called Doctor who, which has been on British TV since 1963. Doctor who is a national icon in this country. He's as famous as James Bond, Sherlock Holmes or the Beatles. He's on TV now at the moment, regularly. And the whole family, you know, families across the country watch Doctor who on television. Children, their parents, even their grandparents watch the program. Kids really just grow up with Doctor who. I grew up with Doctor who when I was a child and my mum and dad grew up with it too, when they were children. It's been on TV since, well, like I said, it's been on since 1963. So it's a really long running TV show and a great sort of cultural icon in this country. Country. Now, I included Doctor who in my story just because I love Doctor who. He's a very significant cultural icon in this country and I just wanted to share that with you. Okay? So at the end of my mystery story, you'll remember that Sherlock Holmes, who's another cultural icon, recommended that I visit an expert who would explain everything about the Doctor and Time Lords and everything like that. Now, I did interview an expert and that's my friend Lee. Now, he's a huge fan of Doctor who. He knows everything about it and in fact, he even gives lectures about Doctor who. So really the story finishes here and it becomes reality, okay? Because Doctor who is already a character who's an inner TV show. So in this podcast, fiction ends and fact begins because it's a real interview with a real person called Lee, who's talking to us about, well, a fictional character Doctor who. Okay? Now there is a transcript for this interview. It's up to you basically, to use that transcript to help you understand vocabulary and things. I'm just going to leave it to you to do your research, use a dictionary, you know, to check words that you don't understand. But basically this is a great opportunity for you to just listen to two native speakers having a conversation. I did the interview in the pub with Lee a few weeks ago. And so basically what you've got here is the opportunity to just imagine that you're sitting in a pub in London with two native English speakers listening to them talking about Doctor who, okay? So really good listening practice. And if you're not living in London, if you're living in a foreign country. And you don't have opportunities to meet native English speakers and to do things like speaking. Sit with them in the pub and listen to them speaking. This is your answer. This is what you can use to expose yourself to the English language. Okay, so what you've got here then is another interview with a native speaker. Here we go. Yo.
