The architect changed their details to accommodate our lights. The contractor built the details in line as a change to accommodate our lights, and then everyone had the result they wanted.

Is there any moment in time when you're explaining a journey to a client or a design team with a light bulb goes off?

Lots of times we can't do our job without everyone else and the extended design team? We can, but we can only achieve 30% success. Everyone thinks immersive is all about something to do with show. Everything's coloured, they're using all the senses, sound, feel, etc. Etc. But sometimes it's one over the other. I mean, we've got to walk the journey of the guest. And I think we tend to get trust in going through that motion because we're also telling them that we understand what they're trying to achieve. Literally, if we've gone through that journey or received that brief with the client, we get as excited about working with a tight budget as we do with a big budget. I think we accidentally put ourselves in a situation we could always do the easy thing. We could design around existing product and then work out that's going to happen. But we. We deliberately don't design around product and we deliberately don't even talk about product until the later stages. So we have to be double creative and double innovative with a cheap budget. What we have to be is creative with what we can do within that palette. And that is a whole different form of creativity and a whole different form of innovation. And then when you can use very basic product to achieve really cool things, that's just as rewarding as building a model and spending the client's money.

Before we jump in, I want to thank five companies that show up for this community. Gotham Lead, Flex, Diode, led, Kelvix and Taretti usa. Because this show exists thanks to their belief in designers and the work they do every single day. I'm really excited about this conversation and I want to start where design actually begins, imagining what's possible. Every designer begins by imagining how a space should feel calm, intimate, creating clarity or wonder. Yet lighting too often demands compromise. Performance versus flexibility. Intent versus cost. Good instead of better. Gotham starts with a different belief. Those decisions shouldn't carry the weight they usually do, because the right options are already built in. Their approach to architectural downlighting is designed around freedom. The freedom to explore, adapt and refine without limitation. This is the new Gotham, where every option is already there. See it for yourself. Experience how Gotham's Ivo makes lighting design easier, faster and more intuitive. Request a sample customized to your specs@gothamlighting.com free samples. Welcome to the Light Pod built by Liteye, the number one podcast about the people, process and product of design, all with a little love for light along the way. I'm your host Sam Corbel and today we're in Dubai. Sitting down with Paul Miles to talk what luxury is, how it's defined, how it fits the bill of design, where it comes from, but most importantly, how it really actually comes to life. Paul, welcome to the podcast.
