December 2018 Inflation slowed to 5.1% this on the backs of lower oil prices, a stronger Peso against the US Dollar, the prices of rice and other crops dropping and transportation costs such as jeepney fares have gone down. Lower inflation will bolster perception for people to spend more. Thus further strengthening our consumption driven economy which has a huge pull on our GDP. This will also be good for consumption stocks as discretionary spending will increase. A possible risk that I see is the increase in oil prices from the second tranche of the TRAIN Law. Next big economic data to follow is the 4th Quarter GDP announcement.
