welcome to Morning Cup Day. Coming to you from Atlanta. Yes, we finally left la. We have come to a new city for the business end of the tournament. Canada are the first team through to the last 16. We've got three more games coming up today and let me tell you, they are special spicy. We'll talk all about it. This is your ultimate guide to day 19 of the World Cup. Jesse Marsh's side are through to the last 16 for the first time in their history after beating South Africa 10 with a last minute winner. Fans in Vancouver were in raptures. South Africa's game plan involving passing it around their defence and their goalkeeper drew a lot of boos from the home crowd. South Africa, despite being the underdogs, did keep pace with Canada stopping a host of their chances as well. But to be honest, in normal time, the most entertaining moment was when a woman in the crowd was filmed dropping her phone in slow motion whilst jumping up for the wave so it looked like it was destined for extra time. That was until the 92nd minute when Stefan Eustachio hammered the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the box and the Canadian hero was mobbed by his teammates. His post match interview was pretty emotional. He had tears in his eyes as he remembered his parents after they passed away a few years ago.

It ended in heartbreak for South Africa, but they can take pride in their best ever World cup finish. It is worth saying though that it shouldn't be played down just how impressive Canada's performances are at this tournament. Before this, their record was played six, lost six, but they immediately picked up a historic point with a draw against Bosnia and then they thrashed Qatar 60 as well. A defeat to Switzerland denied them their chance to play their last 32 game in Canada, but the fans travelled in huge numbers to cheer them on in LA and it felt a little bit like a home game. What a moment though for Canada. That's gotta be worth a buzzer, isn't it? World cup no doubt. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chao must have loved it. Canada's first ever knockout goal and their first ever knockout win. How about that? Next up for them will be a tricky test in the shape of either the Netherlands, Morocco. Here we go then. Yesterday we had South Africa against Canada as a bit of a knockout appetizer. But think of today as the main course. Three games and each of them are absolutely mouth watering. Brazil and Japan meet in Houston at 1pm Eastern. The Brazilians, led by Carlo Ancelotti won their group and just listened to the noise their fans made when the team arrived at their hotel in Tex. It seems wherever this Brazil team goes, Japan are also really well supported here in North America and to be honest, any excuse to play this on the buzzer. I am excited. I am very excited as well. Japan finished second in their group just behind the Netherlands, picking up two draws and a win from their group stage matches. But we're predicting that they are going to give Brazil a very serious game today and that is the focus of the drill. This is the fourth time that they've made it out of the groups. Can this be the time that they go one step further? Beating the big nations is becoming more commonplace for them. At the last World cup they beat both Spain and Germany in the group stages and then in recent months they've picked up big wins against England and Brazil. That was the sound of Japanese TV as the Samurai Blue recovered from 2:0 down at halftime against Brazil in a friendly to win 3:2 in Tokyo. Ayase Ueda scored that winning goal and the Feyenoord striker will be key once again. But it is worth saying they have five different goal scorers so far this tournament proving that they're not just reliant on one player like a lot of other teams. I mention no names. However, picking up results in group stage fixtures and friendlies is one thing, but this run of knockout defeats is a mental block that they will need to overcome if they're to live up to expectations of being dark horses. In injury news, both sides have big attacking names on the sidelines. Brazil will be without Raphinha once again whilst Japan's Takefuza Kubo is ruled out with a knee injury.

Then at 4:30 Eastern we've got an intriguing matchup in Boston as full time champions Germany play Paraguay now. Germany won Group E thanks to wins over Curacao and Ivory Coastal, but did lose their final group game to Ecuador. Paraguay finished third in their group but have grown into the tournament keeping two consecutive clean sheets after their 41 hammering by the USA during match one. As for the match, Germany will likely play Antonio Rudiger in defense due to a serious ankle injury for Nico Schlotterbeck and Panama will Malcolm Miguel Almiron back who was suspended for one game after picking up a red card against Turkey. However, one big miss for the Paraguayans will be Diego Gomez who is suspended for receiving two yellow cards in the group stages. Germany's left back Nathaniel Brown is fit and expected to play, though that is excellent news for their manager Julian Nagelsmann. Finally at 9pm Eastern in Monterrey, Mexico, we have another belter of a last 32 tie as it's the Netherlands against Morocco. The Moroccans are one of nine African nations to make it out of the group, something that Algeria's Riyad Mahrez marvelled in yesterday evening. How many African teams gone through? Tunisia is the only one, so 10. 10 made it 9.

That shows the quality of African football. What an incredible achievement. And Morocco are undoubtedly one of Africa's brightest stars. They're unbeaten in their three group stage matches so far and only missed out on top spot in Group C on goal difference. Therefore, this match up feels like a harsh reward for the Dutch for winning their group. They scored 10 goals so far. They've been so exciting to watch, but we'll know that they've got to be at their absolute best to progress any further. Morocco's new danger man is Ismail Saibari, the attacking midfielder who has scored in three games so far. Ismail is set to join Bayern Munich later this summer by the way, but currently he plays his football in the Netherlands for psv, so those Dutch players are going to know a lot about him. Expect Morocco to have more of the ball, but Netherlands will likely look to hit on the counter. The winner will face Canada in the round of 16. Like we said earlier, after today's multi match day of knockout action, Roger Rory are going to be back live from Atlanta to break down the madness on another episode of Nightcup. It's really difficult because this is such a good matchup, Charlie. It is so good. And you're right, Brazil aren't what we've seen, but they've also got some star quality players in there. I love Japan, though, so I feel sad given that prediction.

And I was gonna say, I know you're particularly fond of them and it's going to be interesting to see what happens regardless. And it definitely does not feel like. And no disrespect to the game we've seen today, it ended up being very compelling. But it's funny, you see Canada and South Africa and then you turn around and get matchups like this one and the one we're about to talk about.
