Mindy Kaling was born Vera Mindy Chokalingam on June 24, 1979, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her parents, Avu Chokalingam, an architect, and Swati Chokalingam, an obstetrician/gynecologist, immigrated from India. Growing up in a multicultural environment, Mindy showed an early interest in comedy and performing arts.
