MOMocrats.com was launched in September 2007 as a national collaborative blog for progressive mom bloggers to write about politics from a mom's perspective. The MOMocrats MOMochat podcast has been produced weekly since 2010 and is hosted by Donna Schwartz Mills along with Karoli and Aliza Worthington from CrooksAndLiars.com. The podcast is part of the Demcast family of podcasts.

MOMocrats Aliza and Karoli went at it alone this week while Donna cavorted in Paris on her birthday. From the ballroom to the newly announced $1.776 Billion-with-a-B slush fund, it seems like this administration just tosses so many balls in the air it's impossible to catch them. But keep your eyes on the prize and stay alert, because we are actually winning some of these battles and November will be the Great Showdown. Aliza and Karoli called out leadership and called on leadership. Let's show people what it means to be American in these midterms.Follow us on BlueSky@socalmom.bsky.social@karoli.bsky.social@AlizaWrites.bsky.social

Donald Trump brought along a whole slew of oligarchs (and his grifting family) for his meeting with Xi Jinping in China this week. He says he made “fantastic trade deals.” (For whom, we wonder.) But the Strait of Hormuz is still closed with no end in sight to Trump’s Iran debacle - and inflation continues to spike. The Chinese understand that we are a global superpower in decline. Tim Snyder coined an excellent description of what electing Trump a second time has turned out to be: Superpower Suicide. And our demise continues, every single day.People are understandably angry about the actions of a regime that are making us all worse off. Democrats have a lot of tools they can use to slow it down, make it end, and begin to reverse the decline. But MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills point out that it calls for bold leadership - from both the grassroots and the people we elect. On Monday, the United States launched “Project Freedom” in the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, it was all over. We’re not any closer to ending Donald Trump’s foolhardy war against Iran. But the S&P 500 is up 11% since the bombs started dropping, and that’s really what it’s all about, right? This week MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills also discuss the new price tag for the war, the new price tag for Trump’s ballroom, the Callais decision, redistricting, and the sheer racism underpinning it all and this week's 2026 election results.Follow us on BlueSky@socalmom.bsky.social@karoli.bsky.social@AlizaWrites.bsky.social

The regime got a huge boost this week from the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision in Callais v Landry, which put the final nail in the coffin of the Voting Rights Act. MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills also discuss the Democrats’ win over DHS funding, King Charles' visit, Pete Hegseth’s testimony to Congress, the White House Correspondence Dinner, Trump’s obsession with putting his name and face on everything - and the May 1 economic action (No Work, No School, No Shopping).Follow us on BlueSky@socalmom.bsky.social@karoli.bsky.social@AlizaWrites.bsky.social

Hungary's election on Sunday was a political earthquake felt around the world.“Everybody should really pay attention to this because it’s huge,” Karoli says in this week’s podcast. “But also it is a lesson in how one disgruntled guy who used to be a member of the party that Orban was in, decided to start his own party and go all over the country and to all the farmhouses and all the rural areas and everything else and just get people lit up. He got them protesting in the streets. I mean, it wasn’t just him, but he organized, right? And he got them to the people that were in the streets and the people that were voting in the rural areas. And he literally everywhere, basically, Orban lost, right? Like it was an undisputable loss.” Some of the other topics covered by MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills this week:The blockade of the blockade (of the blockade?) in the Strait of HormuzEric Swalwell and the California Governor’s RaceThe Department of Justice’s decision to try to erase the seditious conspiracy convictions of some January 6 organizersThat weird White House DoorDash stuntFollow us on BlueSky@socalmom.bsky.social@karoli.bsky.social@AlizaWrites.bsky.social

MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills all needed to talk out their feelings of fear, disgust, and absolute rage over Donald Trump’s and Pete Hegseth’s war crimes (and yes, a credible threat to commit genocide - as the ones Trump issued this week - is a violation of both US and international law). There are things we can do. And - aside from the threat of Armageddon - there are bright spots among the clouds. The MOMocrats talked about those, too.Follow us on BlueSky@socalmom.bsky.social@karoli.bsky.social@AlizaWrites.bsky.social

The occasion of Pam Bondi's firing gave MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills the fodder for a discussion that was a little more light-hearted than usual - even though they are bracing themselves for a replacement at DOJ who will be even worse (because after 10 years of this nightmare, they know that is how the Trump administration rolls). Also on this week's agenda: Trump's Wednesday night address to the nation, the Supreme Court's birthright citizenship case, the blatantly unconstitutional executive order that would allow DHS to pick and choose who gets to vote, and the Artemis II launch.Follow us on BlueSky@socalmom.bsky.social@karoli.bsky.social@AlizaWrites.bsky.social

Trump’s poll numbers are plummeting further as his war of choice in Iran supercharges oil prices into the stratosphere. The global economy will soon be suffering from higher food prices, scarcer pharmaceuticals, and more expensive manufactured products like semi-conductors.And yet, there are some who are winning in this scenario: The mysterious traders who seem to know exactly when a Trump announcement is going to make the markets riseMohammed bin Salman, who is apparently whispering in Trump’s ear to stay the courseBibi Netanyahu, who surely believes the war will boost his standing with Israeli voters (which may backfire on him)And Iran, which now finds itself able to sell its own oil on the world market because Trump lifted sanctions in an attempt to tamp down those oil prices. While we are bombing them. Oh, and Russia too.You really can’t make this stuff up.MOMocrats Aliza Worthington and Donna Schwartz Mills also talked about the SAVE Act, ICE in the airports, how the Senate Democrats are holding fast against funding Homeland Security, and the latest news from the House about the Epstein files.Follow us on BlueSky@socalmom.bsky.social@karoli.bsky.social@AlizaWrites.bsky.social

MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills talk about Trump's war in Iran, and his absolute unfitness for office (the war will be over when he feels it in his bones???). They talked about the MAGA split over the war, and counterterrorism chief Joe Kent’s resignation. There was a lot of activity in the Senate on Wednesday, and so the trio had quite a bit to say about Rand Paul’s face-off with DHS nominee Markwayne Mullin. During a hearing on Worldwide Threats, Tulsi Gabbard said it’s not her job to analyze the intelligence for the president (she is the Director of National Intelligence and that is exactly what her job is supposed to be!)And of course, they discuss the SAVE Act, which is the Trumpists’ “Great White Hope” for suppressing enough of the vote to stave off a big blue tsunami in November. Note that the MOMocrats dropped this week's first F-bomb in the intro to this week's podcast. That's just how frustrated Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills are feeling with Donald Trump's burgeoning Middle East quagmire - which he started without a purpose, a goal, or any kind of exit plan.As for the Democrats in Congress: they are mostly holding fast on refusing any new funds for the Department of Homeland Security. This fight has been at a standstill for weeks, and the MOMocrats agree that this is exactly the kind of leverage the minority party should be using. But will they also be willing to hold up funding for this war, too? What about the nomination of Markwayne Mullin to succeed Kristi Noem at DHS? Or the SAVE Act, a voter suppression scheme that Trump wants enacted so he can steal some more elections? Right now, it does. not appear that it can get even all the Republicans on board to pass it - but the mere fact of its existence is upsetting. There was good news this week on the electoral front as Democratic candidates continue to perform well. And some under-the-radar developments over the Epstein files.
