Hey there, Derek. This is Joe Tribble from Michigan. This is a secondhand story, but I think it's kind of funny. An older lady who is now long past about 80 years ago when she was much younger, told me about how her and her friends made a Ouija board. They made it from scratch, you know, put it all together and all that. And then they put some candles and start asking it questions. And all it does is it keeps saying no. 10. No 10. Like over and over and over, doing it real fast, moving the planchette. So after a while, they show it to one of their parents and they're like, there's no 10 on the Ouija board. And they look down and they looked up a picture. They found out, oh, Yeah, I did. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 instead of 0 through 9. Now, I don't know if one of the girls might have just known that there was not supposed to be a 10, but I like to think that there was like a ghost or demon or spirit or something like, ah, these girls can't do anything right. Hey, Derek, this is B from Richmond, Ohio, a little town about 12 miles from Steubenville. I'm calling about something that happened in my life to my father back in 91. 92. My dad was one of the toughest men I know. I've seen him intimidate people with just a look. My dad that I know has only cried once in my life, and that was in 1988 when his mom died. When my grandma Marshall died in 91, my grandfather was diagnosed with mesothelioma and he died in August of 91. Now, the following holiday season in 91, my dad woke up cold sweat, scared legitimately scared. And my mom asked him what was wrong. It took him a couple days to tell her. Well, what had happened was my grandma Marshall, my grandpa Marshall had come to him and said, hey, Johnny, it's time for you to come with us. I'm sorry, it's hard to talk about. Well, within less than a month, my dad was diagnosed with mesothelioma. They had removed three ribs, half of his left lung and a tumor the size of softball, along with part of the nerve in his arm where the tendrils had gone and wrapped around the nerve in his arm. My mom still never thought anything about the dream. Well, after my dad died the following June. June of 1992, the day after one of my sister's dance recitals. Well, my mom found out after that that that same night that my dad had the dream. My sister Andrea had mentioned that both grandparents that came to her and told her they were taking our dad. So I realized it's been about 30 years, but it's just one of those things that still gets me now. My mom has met Another man. My stepdad's freaking phenomenal, but it's just that's one of those stories that will stick with me forever. So thank you.

Hi Derek and Monsters Among Us. Fans, I would like to remain anonymous, but I am calling from South Texas. When I was really young, about 18, I moved out with three other friends. We each worked like two jobs just to make rent and stuff. So it was very common that we weren't at home at the same time. It was more rare that we were all there at the same time. So we lived in an apartment. Our building was in the shape of a square and in the middle of the square there was a courtyard and we were on the second floor. All the bedrooms were kind of towards the back and we had this window and the window would overlook the courtyard, but it was a small window kind of high up. I would have to stand on my

He didn't have any hair, but he had like a blazer and pants and shoes. And his face, like, his mouth was kind of open, but he wasn't moving. So in my nightmare, he's not moving his fingers or anything, but he's kind of floating towards the window and then back and then floating again towards the window and back. But in my dream, I knew he was like trying to get in. And I was very scared. And I remember in my dream laying

you can't come in. You're not welcome here. So I wake up just shocked, you know, and I'm like, you know, gasping when I wake up. And I remember just kind of sitting up in bed and just waiting and not hearing anything and thinking like, oh no, I'm going back to sleep. Like, I'm not going to be alone right now. And then I hear this like soft knock on my door and I sit up and it's one of my roommates and she's like, can I lay down with you? I'm really scared. And I said, yeah, what happened? And she said, I just had a nightmare that somebody was trying to get into my window. And so I'm like, oh my gosh, get in bed. I had the same nightmare. We literally laid there hugging until like 5 o', clock until a roommate came home. In our comparison of the stories, she did not see the man, but she could hear him trying to get into her window. She did the same thing. She was laying there scared, saying, please God, don't let him in. And then she woke up. But that's my story. Wanted to share. I will be calling back with more. Now, I've seen this exact same scenario play out so many times on the silver screen till this point, it's almost A vampire stereotype. Having this occur in real life, however, that not only blurs the line of cinema and reality, but it also suggests that these undead children of the night are more than just myth and legend. Okay, maybe it wasn't a vampire, but it was super strange. Just how similar the two dreams were and that they occurred at the exact same time. That's quite unsettling. Hello, Derek. My name is David and I live in Massachusetts. So back in 2013 when a documentary came out about the Bridgewater Triangle, I just had to go see it. If you're not familiar with the Bridgewater Triangle documentary, I'd highly recommend it. Living only about 50 miles away from the Triangle, I couldn't help but go there and check it out for myself. After all, I'm a chauffeur based out of Boston, so driving 100 miles to me is nothing at all. So the following spring of 2014, without telling any family, friends, or co workers, I took a day off from work and headed to the Freetown State Forest in my pickup truck. Being a state forest, it has more than 5,000 acres with multiple entrances, and it's pretty much surrounded by dirt roads. When I arrived there, one of the weirdest things happened to me right away. As I pulled my truck into the dirt entrance of the forest, the only other car was a limo parked all by itself. That's when I recognized the driver. He was a chauffeur who worked for another company from Boston. I rolled down my window and said, frank, what the hell are you doing here? He explained that he was just waiting to pick someone up in a house down the road. The fact that he was there, so far from Boston and so off the beaten path, for me to bump into him like that was a million to one, let alone the idea that only a few minutes later, he would have left and pulled away and I would have never seen him. At this time, it was roughly around noon, and it was a typical late spring day in New England. Driving into the forest on that rough, narrow dirt trail, I was glad to be in a truck. There was no way a regular car could do it right away. The forest was giving off a very creepy vibe. Everything looked a bit off, and I felt like I was being watched As I kept driving deeper and deeper into the forest. I didn't see one person or any other cars at all. A few minutes later, by chance. I found my way to the top of a sonet ledge. If you're not familiar with the ledge, it has a long history of ghosts, UFOs and puck wedgies. When I stepped out of my pickup truck and walked over to the edge of the ledge, looking down across the water filled quarry, I couldn't help but notice something else a bit weird. It was an identical truck to mine. A green Ford Ranger. For a second or two, it was like I was seeing myself again. Is it just me or was that a bit on the strange side of things? The only vehicle I saw inside the forest that day was an identical truck in make, model and color to mine. Even on a nice spring day, the Freetown Safe Forest, AKA Dark woods did not disappoint. There is no way I would ever consider going in there at night. Not even for a million dollars. Thanks Derek for everything you do. Monsters Among Us Rocks.

Thanks David. Ah, the Bridgewater Triangle. One of the many triangular shaped paranormal hotspots that pepper this planet. Paranormal hot spots shaped like a triangle that also start with the letter B. The Bennington Triangle, the Bermuda Triangle, the Broadhaven Triangle, the Bass Strait Triangle, and of course the triangle nearest and dearest to our hearts, the Borrego Triangle. And I know that documentary that David's speaking of. I've seen it a couple of times over the years and even featured it here on the program a time or two. And David's right. As far as paranormal documentaries go, that one is top notch. There's a free link to the entire movie in tonight's show. Notes. Now historically, running into a strange vehicle in that part of the triangle can be hazardous to your health. Most people in that area aren't faced with out of place work colleagues or doppelgangers. No, their lives are literally threatened by an entity folks in that area call the Mad Trucker of Copecat Road.

To the southwest of East Bridgewater, running from the Esonid village of Freetown, through the remote woodlands of the Freetown Fall River State Forest to just beyond the southern edge of the Bridgewater Triangle in Dartmouth lies a mostly unpaved roadway known as Copa Cut Road. It is along the seven mile stretch that many travelers claim to have had run ins with the menacing Mad Trucker of Copa Cut Road.

The Mad Trucker of Copa Cut Road is a great legend that hovers around Freetown State Forest. When you start on Copa Cut Road, it's paved. You go a little distance, it turns into a dirt road and after that it gets almost undriveable. And I know because I was in a car that cracked its oil pan there. But the story goes, you're driving down the road at night and this pickup truck will come out of nowhere, drive up right behind you, flashing his lights, some crazy guy at the wheel, and run you off the road.

The character Our next caller is about to bring up his naughty household name. At least not yet. The flannel man is described as an entity whose appearance is akin to that of a lumberjack eyewitnesses report a man wearing a flannel shirt, traditionally buffalo check plaid, but other checkered patterns have been noted as well. The entity is also known to wear blue jeans and leather boots while sporting some sort of facial hair, usually a full brown beard. Experiencers often find him in doorways or hallways and claim that he appears to be searching for something. For the most part, Flannel man seems to be a neutral presence. Now, with that introductory information out of the way, please welcome Hannah out of Virginia.

Hi, Derek, this is Hannah from Virginia. So this story. I know I was in elementary school, so I was pretty young. I remember that I was just laying in bed. My parents room is across from mine. I think their door was closed, I don't know, but mine was open. I always kept it open. And I saw this like silhouette, I guess, of a man standing in my doorway. So I remember like right now in my mind it was like this lumberjack dude with like a flannel and a hat and a long beard. But I think that that is fabricated. Like I think my mind has developed that over time based on the little details that I know I saw. But I know that it was a larger man. Not like abnormally tall, but, you know, a larger man. Part of me wants to say that he did say something, but I just can't remember. But anyway, he just stood there for a second and I know it wasn't sleep paralysis because I didn't feel paralyzed. I just didn't move because I didn't want to. I just laid there and pretended I was sleeping and just did not move a muscle because I didn't want to, not because I physically couldn't. Anyway, so I just remember being terrified and just staying there for quite a few minutes afterward wondering what the heck it was. I don't know how it disappeared. I don't know if I saw him walk away or if he just vanished. I don't know. I wish I had more details for you. Anyway, I just think about it literally all the time because it was just so weird and spooky. Okay, that's all. Thank you for all you do. Bye.

Thank you, Hannah. Now this flannel man phenomenon might sound brand spanking new, but you might be surprised to hear that it's been around for quite some time. Long enough that Mothman Prophecies author John Keel had time to write about it. In volume 19 of Mail magazine, published back in June of 1969, Keel wrote of several flannel man experiences. He detailed one witness, Linda, whom when asked to describe the mysterious man she saw mentioned that he was wearing a checkered shirt. Keel also notes a letter from a well educated woman in Florida whose ex boyfriend claimed to be a UFO contactee. After their breakup, she woke one night to find a large man standing beside her bed who quietly backed away and disappeared even though the door had been locked. He also references another case in Pensacola, Florida where George Glines reported seeing a large man in a plaid shirt in his living room during a hurricane in 1963. When Kleins approached the character, the man stepped back and vanished. And you know, that's not the only time Kiel discussed these plaid clad mystery men. In the book the Mothman prophecies from 1975, he wrote the she came running into my room, Mrs. Lilly said. She cried. There's a man in my room. There is. She refused to sleep alone ever since. When I asked for a description of the character, Linda said she thought he had been wearing a checkered shirt. Bedroom phantoms and checkered shirts are old hat to investigators of psychic phenomena. I have come upon it again and again so often that I have written long articles about it. In some cases, these ghost implants are accompanied by the odor of hydrogen sulfide and sudden chills or sudden blasts of heat. Now make of all that what you will, because your guess is as good as mine here, but truly incredible stuff Hannah, and we thank you again for sharing. I just listened to season 13 episode 19 where a woman had called in about seeing something that they thought was a satellite but then stopped and shot up without a sound. A few years ago, this is probably 2019, my family and I were sitting outside doing a campfire and a light went south to north and it wasn't real high up in the air because my husband and I kind of thought it was a little too low to be a helicopter or an airplane. And it didn't have any sound. Then it was kind of higher and it did kind of seem more like a satellite, but still not quite high enough to be a satellite. So we were sitting there and watching it and it went north. And then about four or five minutes later we noticed the same kind of light was coming towards us from the west going east. The light seemed to be lower this time than when we saw it going from south to north. And when it got above our backyard, probably a good 45ft from us, it stopped right above our fence in the backyard, sat there for a split second and then shot up to the sky. There was no Sound. But there was a very bright flash. Husband and I could not figure out what it was. And we packed up our stuff and went into the house. This isn't the only time we've seen something strange. About 2010, there was a meteor shower, and we had gone up north of town. We live in southern Minnesota, and we were watching the meteors. And to the northeast, we kind of saw what looked to be a helicopter, maybe an airplane, but looked more like lights of a helicopter. And all of a sudden it stopped. And it did crazy patterns. Almost like somebody had been shining a flashlight, you know? And when they kind of go back and forth real fast. Crazy, like with the flashlight. That's what it kind of seemed like. And then all of a sudden it flashed and went straight up into the air again. Again, no noise, but just something kind of strange. Little funny thing is, you know, freaked my husband out. So we got back in the car and took off back towards home. And on the way home, we saw a family that was sitting near the field, and they were all in white snuggies with the hoods up and everything. So that freaked my husband out a little bit more. Gave me a little bit of a laugh. So. So I hope you can use this, and I appreciate all you do to help us get our experiences out. Thanks, Derek.

And what was with the flash? Catching a light, zipping around is one thing. I suppose a drone could replicate a lot of that. But the flash, that's what has me puzzled. So it's weird stuff for sure, caller. And the kind of thing that turns your ordinary campfire into a battle of nerves. Thank you again for taking the time to share. Hi, Derek, this is Mondo from the Los Angeles area. I got a couple of possible ghost stories for you. The first one has to do with me staying at my aunt's back house. As I was going to college one night I had nothing to do, and I was playing on my gaming console, the Xbox 360. I got something called the Kinect. And what the Kinect is, in case anybody doesn't know, is a camera that comes with game. And as you're playing the game, the camera reads your motions and the character within the game copies them. So whatever movement you do in real life. The character on the screen does as well. I was playing with the lights off and the camera was facing me, and behind me was a solid wall. And on the very corner was the doorway to the corridor that led to my bathroom and my bedroom. And as I was playing, I noticed that on the bottom corner, it shows you like an infrared version of you moving as you play. It doesn't record it. It just kind of just shows you what it looks like from the camera's point of view and how the camera is reading you. And as I was playing, I noticed that there was a figure within the doorway, shaped like a tall man. He was so big that the top of his head pretty much fit perfectly into the top of the doorway. I did a quick glance, look behind me, and nobody was there. So I did a double take between the television and the door. And nothing. I didn't see anything when I looked at the doorway with my bare eyes. But when I looked at the screen, there was a figure there, just standing there. After that, I just fixated on the figure on the screen, trying to get a good look at it. It was transparent and just the shape of a man, I would say. Like just your average tall squared shaped guy, I guess you could say. And as I was noticing it, all of a sudden, it lunged at me. I freaked out. I scrambled. I looked behind me. Of course I didn't see anything, but I just went straight for the light switch, turn on the light. Nobody was there. I didn't feel anything. Nothing touched me. I then just turned off the gaming console and television. And I've never used the Kinect since. Some other strange things happened in that house. Like lights wouldn't turn on and they would have fresh light bulbs inside the sockets. And another similar thing happened. Like, I'm an art major and in that house I was learning how to use Photoshop for one of my projects. And at the time I had one of those Macintosh that has one of those built in cameras on the screen. I took a picture just so I had something to edit. So I uploaded it. And I was messing with the color filters and I believe I removed all the red from that photo. And as soon as I did that, I saw an outline of a little girl, like on my left. And you can even make out detail. Like she had a little button nose and she was just looking over my shoulder, seeing what I was doing. I freaked out and I just immediately deleted that photo. I kind of regret doing that and just like deleting that photo because a lot of people would like to see it and it's kind of confirmation that I actually saw something. Thank you Mondo. Now if I had a nickel for every haunted back house to guest house or pool house story that I've heard, I'd probably have about $3.50. But that's a lot considering all the ghost stories that are out there. But I don't know why that is what makes those spaces so vulnerable to the supernatural. No Mondo mentioned the Xbox Kinect, the Accidental Ghost Detector. Now years ago, Xbox released this add on and it didn't take long for folks to realize that it was picking up more than meets the eye, so to speak. I recently built my own Kinect kit and it does work. It will sometimes pick up humanoid shapes that I cannot see, but I haven't yet had the opportunity to test it out at an actual haunted location. But I'm hoping to Truth be told, I'm a bit skeptical about this piece of technology, which is why I wanted to make and test my own. But until I get out there in the field, the jury is still out. Hi Derek and monsters among us family. My name's Rachel and I live in Tennessee. I'm calling in this time to tell you about an experience I had about two to three weeks ago. I work overnight so everything kind of bleeds together. But that's kind of how the story starts out also. So me and my husband work opposite shifts because we have two boys and we weren't doing daycare. So he works days and I work nights. So one morning I'm getting home and, and just getting ready to go to sleep. And as I'm going to sleep, he gets up and gets ready to go to work and all that fun stuff. But anyway, this particular morning it was really weird because we have a Doberman, so very large dog, very loud barking. He's amazing. But anyway, the dog, like he cries when we leave. He usually just whines. But this morning he was like barking and whining when my husband left, like real bad. So badly that it actually woke me up because he's like freaking out. So I'm just laying in bed looking at the ceiling. And I like, yell the dog's name like, it's okay, he's coming back. And then I just keep laying there, close my eyes, ready to go back to sleep. And then all of a sudden, I cannot explain it. I do not know, but I heard this. It was almost robotic. I don't want to say, like disembodied, because I don't really know what that sounds like. But clear as day, it was quiet in my house. No TVs or nothing was on. And all of a sudden, this very loud voice says one word and one word only. God. Just plain as day. Nothing else. As soon as I heard that, my eyes jolted open. My heart rate started racing. I was terrified. But I was all like, everything's fine. There's nothing in here. The doors locked, like, we're safe. I just kind of had to push it back to my mind because I was so tired and exhausted. I was like, just go back to sleep.

Hey, Derek. It's Lou from North Jersey. And the story that I have for you today happened when I was still an employee at the Sterling Hill Mine Museum in Oxensburg, New Jersey. I was a tour guide there. Now, this particular mine is said to be extremely haunted since 77 people died in the mine from the 90 years it was open. Now compared that to the rest of the nation and mine related deaths, 77 fatalities within 90 years is actually a low fatality rate. However, 77 people did perish within the mine. This particular story happened when I was working in September 23, 2022. And I even have a photo that I'm going to attach to this email now. The other tour guides claim that these ghosts within the mine are incredibly sexist. So if you're a female tour guide, you are more likely to experience something versus if you're a male. There are claims that they saw mannequins turning their heads, people calling their names or, or people tugging at their hair. I never experienced anything like that. And I was working there for about half a year. But one day I was in charge of closing the mine and the other tour guides, some of them refused to close the mine because you would have to go in the mine, lock up and shut off all the lights and you have to walk in darkness with a light guiding your path. I didn't really mind since again, I never experienced anything in the mine myself. So one day I decided to close the mine backwards. Instead of going through the main entrance, I decided to go through the back entrance and close the museum and the mine entrance from the back. Everything was just ordinary procedures as always. And when I got to the end to the entrance of the mine, there was a very cool visual effect that the sun was emitting. It was the sun rays beaming into a dark, dimly lit cave. So I decided to take a photo and I really thought I got a really good photo. I then zoomed in and I saw what looks to be a horizontal orb that is going the opposite direction. The light rays are beaming from the entrance of the mine and earth traveling vertically. This particular orb is going against the light rays. And the light rays clearly have a start point. And that start point is from the entrance of the mind beaming in. But this horizontal orb doesn't appear to have a start point, nor does it have an endpoint. It's just a free floating light orb that if you zoom in close enough, people claim that they see a face with two notable eyes, a bulbous nose and a mouth. I don't know if this is an actual paranormal orb. It very well could be a reflection of the light. It very well could be just the way the light is interacting with the surroundings. However, it does, I admit, look like the orb has a face. So I really love this podcast. Keep it up, keep it spooky. And really thank you for taking my call. I really appreciate it.

Thanks, Lou. Now, Sarah and I have spent some time in Julian, California, just east of San Diego, and they too have a mine that you can tour. They didn't mention any ghost, but it sure was freaky when we went down there. I was pretty convinced that the big one was going to hit while we were 300ft under the mountain. It was a fun experience once we were back topside. Now this place, the Sterling Hill Mine in Ogdensburg, New Jersey is brand new to me. Previously not on my radar, but apparently that's not the case with folks back east. I guess school children often take field trips down into the mine and it's been a staple for many, many years. But it's not just history and ghosts that bring people down there these days. Now they go down in the darkness for the light show. The following clip was pulled from New Jersey's Best on YouTube and fills you in on the secret that I'm alluding to.

Sterling Hill Mine Narrator (53:14)

As you wander through its cavernous tunnels in Sussex county, you'll find craggy cliffs, heaps of artifacts, and a surreal showing of fluorescence that sparks curiosity and captures the glory of geology. Sterling Hill Mining Museum has a laundry list of cool and quirky features to see along the guided walking tour of the first level, including the lamp room, shaft station, a blasting demonstration, and mine galleries dating back to the 1830s. Mannequins placed alongside curiously labeled signage give guests a laugh as visitors make their way along the quarter mile journey through the fourth oldest mine in the country. Just don't venture too far into the darkness or you may catch a glimpse of Pete the ghost. Over 300 minerals are found throughout the historic attraction, but one fluorescent formation presents a double dose of wonderment. You don't want to miss the Rainbow Room.

This was a zinc mine, but what really makes it special, what really puts it on the map, we are the fluorescing mineral capital of the world. No place else even comes close. Now, as Lou mentioned, there are tours of the mine that you can take yourself. I have a link in the show notes for more information. And if you live far away or you're not going down in that hole either, I found a video someone made of the entire tour so you can watch it without risking your life. Now, before we duck out of here, Lou did send in the photo that he referenced in his call. It is also in the show notes. Now I'll give my honest opinion here, Lou. The mine might be haunted. 77 deaths is a lot, but I don't think this image depicts one of those ghosts. Now to me, this just looks like the classic iPhone green glare that you get when photographing a bright object in a dark setting. It's just a reflection of that light source flipped upside down and pushed to the side by the curvature of the lens. I put another example up in the show notes if you need further proof. But like I said, that doesn't mean the place isn't haunted. Lou on the contrary, the place sounds plenty active to me. Hey Derek and Delaney. My name's Nathan. I live in Victoria, B.C. in Canada. When I was under 10, I lived in Montreal, Canada. I lived with my parents and my younger sister in a rented house that was three stories. So the upstairs story was kind of like a landing. It had my sister's bedroom on the left hand side. So if you're standing in the living room and you look up you can see the whole upstairs floor with all the bedrooms. So my sister's bedroom was on the left hand side, my parents was the next bedroom and a little bit further down was mine, so on the right hand side and then my bathroom. So the bathroom on the upstairs floor was next to my bedroom. I Woke up one night to go to the bathroom and I walked out of my bedroom and something caught my eye in the living room. And I walked out of my bedroom so I could see a little bit better. And I saw a glowing girl. The girl had short, curly hair and it looked like she was glowing. I don't remember feeling fear. I remember thinking that it was my younger sister. And I walked down the hall to her bedroom and opened her door and she was sleeping. I remember closing her door and then staring at this being. The being had, you know, her or its face closed. So the eyes were closed, the mouth was closed. No expression. It didn't acknowledge me that I was looking at it. Nothing. It just kind of stood there in the same spot. And it didn't move from when I went to check to see if it was my sister or not. I remember opening my parents bedroom after and telling them that there was something in the living room. And by the time my parents came out to check with me, she was gone. Kind of creepy. My dad's side of the family was Catholic. I didn't grow up in a very religious household, but I was close with my dad's parents and my grandparents and they were both very Catholic. And I remember calling my grandma maybe the next day and telling her what I saw. And I remember her telling me she thought that I saw an angel. I don't remember, you know, the being having wings or like a halo or anything that we associate with angels. I just remember it was like a glowing girl with short, brown, curly hair. I'm very into the paranormal now. I'm not sure that I would say, you know, definitively that it was anything, but I'm not sure that I think it was an angel. I don't know what it was. Never saw it again. Kind of creepy, but at the time I felt no fear, which feels a little bit odd. That's my story. Keep up the great work.
