A fatal ICE involved shooting in Minnesota. Russia sounds off as another oil tanker is seized and will California require voter id? I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire executive editor John Bickley. It's Wednesday, January 7th, and this is Evening Wire.
John Bickley
A woman was fatally shot by ICE in Minneapolis after officials say she tried to run over agents with her car. The Department of Homeland Security says officers were blocked by a group of people when the woman allegedly accelerated toward them, prompting an ICE officer to fire in self defense. Here's DHS Secretary Kristi Noemi.
Kristi Noemi
It was an act of domestic terrorism. What happened was our ICE officers were out in enforcement action. They got stuck in the snow because of the adverse weather that is in Minneapolis. They were attempting to push out their vehicle and a woman attacked them and those surrounding them and attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle. An officer of ours acted quickly and defensively, shot to protect himself and the people around him and my understanding is is that she was hit and is deceased.
John Bickley
Video posted on social media appears to show the woman's vehicle hitting an officer before shots are fired. But Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey is saying ICE is to blame and demanding they leave the city to ice. Get the out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to some kind of safety and you are doing exactly the opposite. People are being hurt, families are being ripped apart. Long term, Minneapolis residents that have contributed so greatly to our city, to our culture, to our economy are being terrorized and now somebody is dead.

Russia is demanding proper and humane treatment of crew members after American forces seized a sanctioned oil tanker in the North Atlantic. The vessel, known as the Maranera, was seized today between Iceland and the British Isles under a US Court order. Moscow says Russian nationals may be among the crew and wants them returned home. However, the White House has rejected that demand.

Again.
Kristi Noemi
This was a Venezuelan Shadow Fleet vessel that has transported sanctioned oil. The vessel was deemed stateless after flying a false flag and it had a judicial seizure order and that's why the crew will be subject to prosecution.
John Bickley
President Trump has announced that Venezuela will transfer between 30 and 50 million barrels of sanctioned oil to the US Daily Wire Foreign affairs reporter Cassie Akiba has more.
Cassie Akiba
The president described the oil as high quality and said that it would be delivered immediately to US Ports on storage ships. He posted on social media Tuesday that the oil will, quote, be sold at its market price and that the money will be controlled by me to ensure that it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States. The Venezuelan shipment is enough to supply the US for roughly one and a half to two and a half days, based on America's daily consumption of about 20 million barrels. Venezuela currently produces only around 1 million barrels per day, marking a sharp drop from the roughly 3 million barrels a day it produced before socialist Hugo Chavez took power in the late 1990s.

Pro Maduro militias are cracking down on dissent in Venezuela and searching for supporters of the US Raid that toppled the strongman. Daily Wire reporter Zach Jewell has the story.
Tim Pierce
Plainclothes gunmen deployed by Venezuela's leaders are walking the streets and stopping vehicles as they crack down on dissent and pro American sentiment. The paramilitary members, known as colectivos, were out in full force on Tuesday as the pro Maduro regime seeks to maintain control of the country. Men armed with rifles set up checkpoints in the capital city of Caracas, where they stopped drivers to search their vehicles, phones and personal belongings, looking for any evidence of support for the United States capturing Maduro. Police, meanwhile, were instructed to immediately begin the national search and capture of everyone involved in the promotion or support for the armed attack by the United states.
John Bickley
Officials say 75 Venezuelan and Cuban nationals were killed as a result of the operation over the weekend, including dozens killed in a gunfight at Maduro's compound. Seven American troops were injured, with two sustaining serious but non life threatening injuries. President Trump called the operation effective but very violent. The raid was led by Elite Army Delta Force members in collaboration with Special Operations soldiers from the 75th Ranger Regiment and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

Chinese authorities arrested several Christians on Tuesday as part of an ongoing pressure campaign against underground churches, Daily Wire senior editor Joel Niedler reports.
John Bickley
The arrest centered around Early Rain Covenant Church, a prominent Evangelical Presbyterian church, as well as a school linked to the congregation. This comes just months after the Chinese government rounded up prominent leaders at Zion Church, another well known underground church. The head of the advocacy organization Luke alliance told the Daily Wire that the government wants to exert more control over the churches, including making them register any online services they have before meeting, and they do not want Christian parents educating their children in the faith. Officials in Denmark and Greenland have requested to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio as President Trump has renewed his efforts to acquire the territory. Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has the details.
Tim Pierce
Greenland Foreign Minister Vivian Mosfeldt and Denmark Foreign Minister Lars Rasmussen said separately that they've requested a meeting with Rubio. They said similar meetings had been requested last year but never granted. Matzfeld said, quote, the strong request for a meeting is related to the U.S. s claims about our country. For his part, Rasmussen said he hoped the meeting would clear up certain misunderstandings about the situation. Meanwhile, the White House said all cards are on the table in their push to acquire it. It said in a statement, quote, the president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal. And of course, utilizing the US Military is always an option at the commander in chief's disposal.

The Minnesota fraud scandal has made its way to Washington as the House Oversight Committee heard testimony earlier today. The witnesses included state representatives like Walter Hudson and Kristen Robbins, as well as Brendan Ballou, a former federal prosecutor who was involved in the prosecution of January 6th protesters. Here's Representative Brandon Gill from Texas questioning Hudson and Robbins.
Brandon Gill
You're saying that there was a political incentive to cover up widespread Somali fraud, is that right?
John Bickley
100%.
Brandon Gill
Did the waltz administration and Democrats intentionally, in your opinion, overlook this fraud while it was happening for political gain? I'll start with you, Ms. Robbins.
Georgia Howe
Absolutely. We have credible whistleblower reports that the Department of Human Services Administration up to the OIG and the commissioner met with a group called the Minnesota Minority Child Care association multiple times and that they were trying to weaken protections. We had several changes we wanted to do and they opposed all of them.
John Bickley
I would agree with absolutely.
Georgia Howe
The whistleblowers confirm it. We caught up with Gil after the hearing.
Brandon Gill
My main takeaway from today is that Democrats, even when caught up in a massive scandal, are unwilling to put the country first and confront the scale of this fraudulent activity. As we saw today, the Waltz administration not only looked away as this was happening, but harassed and intimidated whistleblowers who were trying to call out the fraud. And it was all done to court the Somali community in Minnesota. And I think Minnesota is the tip of the iceberg here.

The Senate is set to hold a hearing next week on the potential dangers of the abortion pill. Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presegiacomo has more.
Tim Pierce
Pro life groups have urged the Trump administration to roll back Biden era rules that currently allow the drug to be shipped through the mail. Senator Bill Cassiday of Louisiana will lead the Senate hearing. A medical doctor himself, Cassidy has pushed for the Trump administration to end the mail order abortion policies and to release a safety study on the effects of mifepristone, which is the active drug used in medication abortions. He told the Daily Wire, quote, the medical evidence is clear. Chemical abortion drugs not only kill innocent babies, but also put women in serious danger.

Advocates fighting radical gender ideology are pushing the White House to keep the ideology out of child welfare programs. Daily Wire White House correspondent Mary Margaret Olihan has the exclusive.
Kristi Noemi
The advocates are calling for an executive order targeting child welfare programs and pointing to national examples of the state removing children from loving parents who refuse to support gender ideology. The Daily Wire reviewed the copy of a draft executive order presented by the advocates which proposes the president tie child welfare program's federal funding to a rejection of gender ideology. The advocates plan to follow up on this proposed order with legislation in Congress. The order redefines child abuse and neglect since under the current language, leftist organizations can claim that child abuse includes refusing to affirm a child's gender identity. It would also tie federal funding for foster care to state plans that don't refuse foster parents for their religious or political beliefs, as well as programs that don't house foster children. According to Gender Identity, the man suspected.

Of killing two students at Brown University and an MIT physics professor confessed to the crimes on video. Authorities said yesterday that they recovered an electronic device with several short videos of Claudio Neves Valente in which he described his planning process and mental state following the attacks. According to transcripts, Neves Valente said, quote, I am not going to apologize because during my lifetime no one sincerely apologized to me and that he had been planning the attack for six semesters and Deep Blue California could soon require voter ID More than a million Californians signed onto a proposition that would require voters to show some form of identification on Election Day. The measure follows a state law that went into effect this year, which bars local governments from requiring voters to show id. The measure, which would reverse that law, will be on ballots across the state this November.
