A Texas jury on Tuesday found Carmelo Anthony guilty of murdering 17 year old high school student athlete Austin Metcalfe. Anthony, who was 17 years old at the time of the murder, was tried as an adult and he's facing five years to life in prison for the first degree murder conviction. The verdict, which came after a mere three hours of jury deliberations, comes days after emotional testimony from friends of Metcalf and other witnesses called by the prosecution. Anthony and his mother reportedly broke down crying after the verdict was read while the Metcalf family appeared relieved and embraced each other. Anthony's mother was the only person to take the stand during the punishment phase of the trial. She reportedly sobbed and asked jurors to have mercy on her son. Sentencing is expected to be delivered today.

The United States has responded after Iranian drones shot down a U.S. apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz. Before the strike, Trump said, quote, the United States must of necessity respond to this attack. In a statement during the attack, CENTCOM said the mission is proportional response to the unjustified Iranian aggression.

Democratic former cabinet member Javier Becerra and Republican Steve Hilton will move on to the general election for the governorship. Becerra landed 28% of the votes to Hilton's 25%, with 84% of the votes counted so far. In the race for LA mayor, independent Spencer Pratt was edged out of second place and fell short of making it to the general election. Instead, City Council member Nithya Raman advances, making November a Democrat on Democrat contest between Raman and incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. Pratt's late decided loss has raised questions about the integrity of California's election process among Republicans, including President Trump.

His former political director Genevieve McDonald detailed her concerns about his candidacy in an op ed that appeared in the Washington Post yesterday. McDonald quit his campaign in October when Platner's old Reddit comments hit national news. Since then, she has been appalled as further details have come to light about his controversial past. MacDonald writes that Platner, quote, exhibits a pattern of dishonest behavior that is impossible to ignore. She also urged voters and Democratic officials to consider options for a new candidate ahead of the general election.

Researchers at the University of Southern California found that men with two children had an estimated brain age 0.6 years younger than men without children. The difference was more pronounced for men with three children. Other research has found that a father's brain shows more activity, likely due to more parts of his brain being used on a regular basis. In an op ed in the New York Times, clinical psychologist Darby Saxby writes that the benefit to men's brains from parenthood and may even be greater than women's, we may be only just beginning to understand the health benefits that come with fatherhood.

Instacart is suing the City of New York over its minimum wage, which they claim has driven up delivery costs. Daily Wire reporter Drew Berkmeyer has the story.

After New York City expanded minimum wage to apply to delivery drivers, instacart sued the city, saying the move is illegal. Instacart referenced the Federal Aviation Administration Authorization act, which says that local laws cannot affect rates, routes or services of motor carriers. Ever since NYC passed a minimum wage for drivers, consumer fees rose, the number of delivery drivers declined, and the annual growth of food delivery dropped in NYC by more than half. Instacart says these statistics prove that the minimum wage influences the rates, routes and services of motor carriers, making the law illegal.

Lewis Hamilton, who drives Formula One for Ferrari, is estimated to have a net worth of $500 million. The ultra rich driver raised eyebrows in a recent podcast appearance where he decried wealth inequality, saying there should be limits and that no one should be able to have billions. It is unknown if Hamilton was referring to his girlfriend Kim Kardashian, who is herself worth around $2 billion. Hamilton as well, despite his calls for retribution, lives in Monaco in Switzerland to avoid taxation. The driver was also reported to have used a leasing structure to avoid millions in taxes when he purchased his private jet. While Hamilton criticized the behavior of the wealthy, he apparently only met people with more money than himself.

Australia's fight against tobacco appears to be backfiring According to a new Australian Bureau of statistics analysis, 80% of tobacco consumed in 2025 was bought on the black market, up from just 12% in 2017. Legal sales and tax revenue have collapsed, all while overall nicotine consumption has risen by 40%. The tax policy, which saw legal cigarettes rise in price to US$40 per package, ended up fueling a massive organized crime syndicate, leading to turf wars, hundreds of firebombings, homicides and even violence against legitimate retailers. And a Milwaukee Presbyterian church is in chaos after proposing clergy must remain monogamous. The church's General assembly is set to vote on a new rule this summer. The progressive denomination has already allowed homosexual clergy members since 2011, but it's now looking to clarify that relationships must be monogamous. The proposal has elicited outrage from denomination leadership groups, including the Advocacy Committee on LGBTQIA Equity, who argued that the rule, quote, enforced white supremacy. The group argued that an enforcement of monogamy would impose a, quote, narrow, culturally specific understanding of family that privileges a dominant cultural framework over the lived realities of communities of color and global Christians.
